india reached their target with 15 overs to spare. it is a second defeat in two games for afghanistan, two wins from two for india. every team will have batsmen and bowlers. we also have batsmen and bowlers. you are not preparing specially for any special team, we are looking for answers more than special team, we are looking for ourselves more than the others because we realise that if we focus on our team and our strengths, everything else will take care of itself. so we are focusing on our team and our preparation. if everything is there in our control, we control that and that gives us the best chance. that is what our team focuses on. it's international week with plenty of exciting euro qualifiers taking place, butjust the one game on wednesday and wales have beaten gibraltar 4—0 in a friendly. rob page handed a debut to charlie savage, the son of former wales international robbie, and he assisted the second goal for kieffer moore after ben davies' opener. nathan broadhead then added a third with this great finish before moore got his second to wrap up the win. wales face croatia in a euro 2024 qualifiers on sunday. scotland are within touching distance of qualifying for euro 24. avoiding defeat against spain in seville on thursday will do it for them, or if norway fail to beat cyprus, the tartan army can start booking their flights to germany. jane dougall has more. it would be nice for a scotland win. scotland fans are in an unusual position and they are enjoying the moment. with five wins from five theyjust need to avoid defeat to spain and they are no longer sightseeing, they are going to next year's euros. making it six out of six, can we qualify? i think we can. it seems surreal because you would never expect scotland to be top of the field against spain and so close to qualifying. when they played in march two goals gave scotland a famous victory. but the vice captain is not complacent about this match. the job is not done yet and on paper it will be the toughest game that each team in the group will face. we will do our best but we want to be a regularfixture in these tournaments in years to come. on so many occasions scotland have eitherjust missed out or just scraped into a tournament. but in this stadium more than 3800 members of the tartan army could watch scotland automatically qualify for a major tournament for the first time in 25 years. scotland do not plan to be tourists in this competition. they want a seat at the table. come on, scotland! jane dougall, bbc news, seville. england face australia in a friendly on friday before a euro qualifier at home to italy next tuesday and england defender harry maguire says a phone call from david beckham meant everything after he was jeered by scotland fans last month. the manchester united defender scored an own goal in a 3—1win but says he's been encouraged by beckham — who suffered plenty of abuse himself after being sent off at the *98 world cup. about three weeks ago after the scotland game he got in touch with me and that was really nice of him and i appreciated that. david had always been someone i looked up to when watched when i was a young boy and unfortunately i did not end up on the right wing and score and assist as many goals as he has but he was a big role model when i was growing up and i think itjust shows how classy he is to reach out to me and obviously many people are speaking about me at the moment and he shared what he went through and the resilience that he showed, what he did, he reminded me of the big moments i have had my career and i have to say when you go through tough mental period you have to remember past experiences and memories and where you have gone in your career and what you have been through. in every career, like i said, every career is up—and—down and especially when you reach what i have reached in terms of being the captain of the biggest club in the world for 3.5 years and he has been in that position and he knows what it is like and obviously i watched a documentary and i could not believe how much he went through at the time. so, yeah, i know neville speaks a lot about how resilient he is as a person in the documentary and i think he is a role model for many footballers growing up especially in my era. wayne rooney says he wants to take birmingham city to the next level after being named the new manager of the english second tier side. rooney left dc united in the mls at the weekend after failing to make the playoffs and he replaces john eustace — who'd guided birmingham to 6th in the championship after 11 games. the former england striker says "we will create a winning culture with an identity that gets blues fans on their feet." it's been 12 years since birmingham last played in the premier league. luton town have given the former crystal palace and england winger andros townsend a short—term contract until january. townsend, who's 32, had been close to joining burnley. he was out of contract and didn't play at all for everton last season because of a serious knee injury. he joins luton with the club 17th in the premier league. we're getting closer to a huge weekend for the remaining three home nations at the rugby world cup. ireland have the stand out quarterfinal, the number one side in the world will face the three time champions new zealand at the stade de france. coach andy farrell has been able to name an unchanged 15 to take on the all blacks. gavin andrews is with the ireland squad. with the pool stages wrapped up in this world cup, ireland are on a roll. they have won 17 in a row and a slight favourites to topple the mighty all blacks on saturday night. andy farrell seems to have a template for success and it is more of the same in terms of selection for the head coach. players have proved their fitness picking up knocks against scotland weekend and in an unchanged pack ian henderson maintains his partnership in the second row. joe mccarthy comes onto the bench for the injured james ryan and jimmy o'brien gets his first opportunity of the tournament. this is a squad confident that they can deliver. it is the big boy stuff, the business end of the competition and when you get to those points in a competition then hopefully you draw on other experiences that you have had and all the moments of the last three or four years for moments like this. we have an experienced group and dealing with weeks like last week and this week is something we have gotten quite good at. it is something to going get, it is something that you dream of. not as a kid — when we were kids we did not dream of ireland winning the world cup and we have put ourselves in that position now to go and do that. it is not something to be pressured about and i haven't thought about my career to be honest i will think about it more when i finish. i'm just geared up to a massive game on saturday with a massive challenge for this team and i look forward to it. one more victory will see ireland equal the record run of consecutive wins in top tier sport. to do it on the way the first—ever world cup semi—final will break new ground. gavin andrews, bbc news, paris. that quarterfinal will take place in st denis, as will france against south africa. wales face argentina in marseille on saturday and england will also be there for their quarterfinal against fiji on sunday. england lost to the pacific islanders for the first time in august. forward jamie george told our rugby correspondent chris jones how that will motivate them. quarter—final is huge and it is an opportunity to put a few things right. that fiji game was shocking, to say the least so we will make sure that we take lessons from that and be a better team this week. so they came from august is on your mind? yeah, it is. it would be wrong of us do not try and dismiss it. we are a much better team now than we were then but i think there are clear things that we have to take away from that and our coaches being clear about reminding us of that and showing us clips that hurt. and made sure that we are fully aware that we owe them one. you can get all the latest sports news at from the bbc sport app, orfrom our website — that's bbc. co. uk/sport. from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. hello. some fresh autumn weather on the way. chilly even for some of us in northern parts of the uk, but certainly nothing out of the ordinary. it's been so mild across many parts of the country so far this month. so we're back to really where we should be this time of the year. so this is what's happening on thursday. this is the air mass, the temperature of the atmosphere. so still some warmth and humidity across the south. in fact, temporarily thursday into friday, we'll see a resurgence of that warmth as the wind direction changes temporarily from the southwest. but then come saturday and sunday, it's a northerly and that autumn chill arrives touch of frost across northern areas by night, even a little bit of wintriness across the scottish hills. so let's have a look at the forecast then through the early hours, really quite cloudy and wet across some southern parts of the uk. but to the north of that it's generally clear and chilly. in the glens of scotland, temperatures barely above freezing, but most of our northern towns and cities around three to four degrees celsius in the south, on the south coast, it's still really quite mild sort of remnants of that warmth leftover, but a lot of cloud during the day, little dribs and drabs of rain. and then i think across much of yorkshire, northern ireland, the bulk of scotland, a bright if not sunny day, just scattered fairweather clouds, 13, 1a, still 18 in the south. but then come the evening, widespread heavy rain sweeps into many parts of england and wales, a really wet thursday night into friday. really complicated weather map here. on the one hand, we have a weather front coming in, a low pressure from the south and we've got a cold front coming in from the north. you can just about see it here. so i think for a time wet in the morning on friday, temporarily, that warmth, it literally clips the southeast with temperatures up to 20 in london, 19 in norwich. but the colder autumn air arrives in scotland, northern ireland and northern england as well. so it's a northerly temporarily or northern, but northerly, but then into next week, high pressure builds and we're right in the middle in the centre of this area of high pressure. so that means the winds will be generally light, there'll be a lot of sunshine around. so it's going to feel very, very pleasant indeed. i think a lot of crisp autumn sunshine on the way. that's it for me. bye bye. live from washington, this is bbc news. israel's military build—up gathers pace, ahead of an expected ground invasion of gaza. new satellite images of a gaza neighbourhood show the before—and—after impact of the israeli air strikes. and, the us secretary of state is en route to the region, as president biden speaks about efforts to bring us hostages home. hello, i'm caitriona perry. you are very welcome there have been growing calls for a humanitarian corridor a humanitarian corridor into gaza, even as violence continues on the ground. we've seen flashes over the skies of gaza,
