Israels Defence Minister says its military is now moving towards a full scale offensive against gaza, in response to the massacres of civilians by hamas gunmen. The military says it has been recovering the bodies of whole families, including several children, following an attack by hamas in one Israeli Village. The Israeli Defence forces say more than 1,200 israelis have been killed since saturday. Palestinian Health Officials say more than 900 people in gaza have lost their lives. 0ur correspondent nick beake has the latest. Siren wails. The israeli city of ashkelon. Explosion. Has been hit by a stream of rockets overnight. Many were intercepted mid flight by air defences. Theyd been fired from inside gaza, a few miles to the south. Nearby, Israeli Forces have been seizing back control and moving into communities that hamas had attacked. This is kfar aza, where soldiers say theyve uncovered atrocities including the murder of mothers and their children. They have Justjihad Machine to kill everybody. Without weapons, without nothing. Just normal citizens that want to take their breakfast, and thats all. And they kill them. Its aggressive thing to see, its very difficult to see it. But we must remember who is the enemy, and what our mission. Our mission is thejustice were in the right side and all the world needs to be behind us. Israel says those who did this will pay the heaviest price. And this is their latest response. The bombardment of gaza continues, israeli strikes hitting palestinian communities. Israels military released this footage showing its operations. It says its targeting hamas fighters. Hundreds of civilians have been killed. The air strikes have caused huge damage to homes and shops. Translation i lost everything. My house, my shop has been destroyed completely. Where do we go . We have become homeless. The israelis say hamas has brought this upon gaza. Israel is accused of breaking international law. Supplies of food, power and water into gaza have been cut off. Just to the north, across the wire, israeli troops are arriving in ever greater numbers, senior commanders warning the next stage of their response will build up to a ground operation into gaza. Israel is committed to the security of its citizens, to their safety and well being, both when they are attacked by murderous and cruel Human Monsters and when they are kidnapped and taken prisoners by them. The resistance the israeli troops will encounter is likely to be fierce. Hamas will be preparing to meet in advance. The prospect is of even more bloodshed in this part of the middle east. Nick beake, bbc news, tel aviv. Nick beake is in tel aviv this morning. You are at the Ministry Of Defence in israel. What is the latest information . In israel. What is the latest information . , information . Good morning. The latest from information . Good morning. The latest from officials information . Good morning. The latest from officials here information . Good morning. The latest from officials here is information . Good morning. The latest from officials here is that l latest from officials here is that more than 1200 israelis have lost their lives. More than 2700 israelis have been wounded and one spokesman this morning talks about sustaining extremely serious casualty numbers. As you saw in my report, the city of ashkelon faced that the stream of missiles coming in overnight. It does seem from the footage that a lot disintegrated in mid air. At the same time, the bombardment, the israeli bombardment of gaza continues and officials are saying that in the past 2a hours their fighterjets have hit a50 targets. Of fighterjets have hit a50 targets. Of those, 200 were in one specific part of gaza city and that is because they say the hamas operation over the weekend was focused there and they are going for the people behind that. But as we have been seen, many civilians in gaza, many palestinians have lost their lives. The latest from Health Officials in the city there say that more than 900 people have been killed, and in terms of the wounded, more than a600. That is the latest picture from here. As i was saying in my report, the officials in terms of the military here are saying it is not a question of when, of if they go into gaza, it is when, and the preparations are well under way. We have seen from that incursion in the south of israel into gaza itself. We can see the south of israel into gaza itself. We can see the road behind you looking busy. What is life like for people in tel aviv right now . For people here, in tel aviv right now . For people here. There in tel aviv right now . For people here, there is in tel aviv right now . For people here, there is the in tel aviv right now . For people here, there is the constant in tel aviv right now . For people| here, there is the constant threat that people are looking at their phones, looking at these apps, that people have been downloading in the last few days, working out if any Rocket Attacks are incoming. Certainly there has been nothing we have heard. We have been in this particular city. Strikes have reached here previously from gaza and there is also the case in jerusalem, but i think there is a collective sense of people knowing that they will be some sort of further action in gaza itself and the thing that is interesting is that so many people here have to do military service, so even if you are not in the army all the time, a lot of families are aware they may be called up for active duty in the days and weeks to come. Thank you very much the first plane carrying us Military Supplies has arrived in israel, according to local authorities. President biden said hed make sure the country had everything it needed to defend itself against attacks by hamas. He described the assault as an act of sheer evil. So in this moment, we must be crystal clear. We stand with israel. And we will make sure it has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack. Theres no justification for terrorism. Theres no excuse. We will of course keep you up to date but now more todays news. We start with a dramatic story here. All flights have been suspended at Luton Airport after a huge fire caused one of its multi storey car parks to partially collapse. Five people have been taken to hospital for treatment for Smoke Inhalation. Greg mckenzie reports. Oh, my god huge flames and smoke billowing from the terminal two car park. Many hundreds of people who were inside the airport awaiting to board flights were told to leave immediately. There was this massive gout of flame that shot across the car park like a flame thrower. Er. So. And then cars were just exploding. So every few minutes, you just got another one another explosion, another explosion. Ten fire engines attended the blaze, which was still burning into the early hours. A member of the public and six firefighters suffered from Smoke Inhalation as the car park fire spread. In an overnight statement, the airport confirmed the partial collapse of the car park, and told passengers that all flights would be suspended until midday. Some confusion here this morning many passengers trapped on the runway for hours, many of them onlyjust now being allowed to get off that plane and away from the airport. We were just told, more or less, leave they werent too sure if we did leave, would we get out . My cars in the car park and we literally are just stranded here on this roundabout. I want to get home. Got work in the morning like everyone else. Access to the airport is currently restricted, and people are being advised to check with their airlines before travelling to luton this morning. Our reporter Greg Mckenzie joins us now from luton. Tell us, as far as this morning is concerned, what is the latest . Well, aood concerned, what is the latest . Well, good morning concerned, what is the latest . Well, good morning. The concerned, what is the latest . Well, good morning. The latest concerned, what is the latest . Well, good morning. The latest is concerned, what is the latest . Ii good morning. The latest is there will be no planes arriving or leaving from here at Luton Airport before midday. That is what the airport have confirmed. There will be no flights here until midday and beyond and the advice is to keep checking with your airline because a lot of the airlines are using other airports, such as stansted, to redirect flights that were meant to leave from luton this morning. Just behind me is some of the fire crews, still at the scene, and the car park is still smouldering. Although the fire is out, you can seejust behind me, smouldering building, really. No more passengers left inside the airport. They were evacuated in the early hours of the morning. Many were stranded, saying the airlines had simply dumped them. That is a quote from the passengers i spoke to on the motorway you saw in that report a short time ago. There is an investigation. Multiple investigations, the airport are investigating and so i the fire service as to how this fire started and why it was able to spread so quickly because the car park that took ablaze is quite new, about a year and a half old, so lots of questions being raised this morning. For now, thank you very much indeed. We will go back to Greg Mckenzie throughout the morning and get more details. The Labour Party Conference comes to an end today. Sir keir starmer s speech was briefly interrupted yesterday after a protestor poured glitter all over him. You have probably seen the pictures. Our chief Political Correspondent Henry Zeffman is in liverpool for us this morning. Henry, i suppose a lot of people will have seen those pictures, the important thing for the labour party, for keir starmer, is they are also listening to his political message. It also listening to his political message also listening to his political messaue. ,. Message. It was an utterly chaotic be. Innin message. It was an utterly chaotic beginning keir message. It was an utterly chaotic beginning Keir Starmers message. It was an utterly chaotic beginning Keir Starmers big message. It was an utterly chaotic. Beginning Keir Starmers big speech. In the whole i think there was bewilderment at how this man had managed to get so close to the leader of the labour party, who has round the clock security, by the way. And then also at what he was actually protesting in favour of, seems to be proportional representation and a different way of doing politics, not that he seemed to have got his argument across favourably for the people in the hall, who were pretty angry with him. Once keir starmer got going, having taken his jacket off and brushed a bit of glitter off his shoulders, his speech went down incredibly well in the hall. I think better than any of the other speeches he has given in his time as labour party leader. And, look, there was not some torrent of policy, which some people had been urging him to offer, but what there was was an argument about why he wants to be Prime Minister and how a country would be different if he became Prime Minister. He talked about how the british people have had a difficult few years and have you thought he could heal, his words, healthe you thought he could heal, his words, heal the divisions that have opened up in the uk. Keir starmer keeps saying no complacency will stop yes, they are well ahead of the conservatives in the polls that are taking nothing for granted. Im sure thatis taking nothing for granted. Im sure that is true in his case. But wandering around the conference last night, didnt take a few questions for me with most i was talking to for me with most i was talking to for them to admit to me they really do think that labour is headed for government. Look, the election is not tomorrow, it is not next month. It might not even be in a year, it could be quite late next year or perhaps even injanuary could be quite late next year or perhaps even in january 2025, could be quite late next year or perhaps even injanuary 2025, the latest possible time it could be. There is a long way left to go, but the labour partys optimism has completely transformed from when keir starmer became leader three and a half years ago and they really do think they are on track for government. Think they are on track for government. Think they are on track for covernment. ,. , ~ ,. , government. Henry, thank you very much indeed government. Henry, thank you very much indeed. We government. Henry, thank you very much indeed. We will government. Henry, thank you very much indeed. We will be government. Henry, thank you very much indeed. We will be joined government. Henry, thank you very much indeed. We will be joined by. Much indeed. We will bejoined by sir Keir Starmerfor an interview at 7 30am. A second earthquake has hit afghanistan. It comes just days after one in the same region killed more than a thousand people. The new 6. 3 magnitude quake struck north of the city of herat. The impact of the latest is not yet clear. The independent Monitoring Board at Wandsworth Prison has found that a severe shortage of available staff is undermining efforts to run the jail effectively. The board drew its conclusions before the alleged escape by Daniel Khalife last month. Businesses are reluctant to hire permanent staff because of the impact of rising costs and uncertainty about the economy, according to new research. The survey by the recruitment and Employment Confederation indicates that the Labour Market is slowing down after a period of very low unemployment following the pandemic. The tv presenter Holly Willoughby has announced she is quitting the itv show this morning after 1a years. It comes just days after a man appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap her. Heres our entertainment correspondent, lizo mzimba. September 2009, Holly Willoughby s first appearance. Welcome. Thank you. How do you feel . Hello. Er. Like this isnt really happening. And for much of the next 1a years, it was her on screen relationship with her co host phillip schofield. 0h oh, my god . That kept daytime Television Viewers constantly entertained. Yeah whoa wow but her on screen chemistry with him appeared to vanish earlier this year before he left the show admitting to lying to her and others about his relationship with a work colleague. She announced her departure on social media saying. I think now, without holly in the mix, it raises a big question about maybe whether the show itself needs a bigger refresh and about whether there needs to be a new combination of presenters to help step into that role. Because if it works, then, of course, this morning can have another decade or so of success. But if it doesnt, then a show can unravel pretty quickly. She didnt specify her reasons for leaving, but last week a man appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court charged with planning her kidnap and murder. She and the audience didnt know at the time, but this last week was herfinal appearance. Itv says theyre looking forward to working with her on other programmes in the future. See you tomorrow.
