Necessary. We need to stress that this is a developing situation. We have been told one person was seriously injured, but there are also a number of other injuries. Yunus mulla, thank you for that update live from the m 53 where that bus has overturned. We are getting a number of mps taking to twitter or releasing statements to say, that we find one from the education secretary
Gillian Keegan
who says i am extremely concerned by reports of a serious crash involving a school bus in merseyside the morning. We are in contact with the local authority to offer support and thank the
Emergency Services
who are working at the scene. In another statement from angela eagle, the labour mp for wallasey who has got in touch and says her thoughts are in with everyone and thoughts with the
Emergency Services
who are presently responding to the situation and one other from alison mcgivern, labour mp for wirral south who has also got in touch to say, thinking of everyone involved and desperately hoping for them. Please stay away from the area if you can, and that seems to be the message we are getting from police and
Emergency Services
, to stay away from that part of the m53 if you can, and a reminder that we are rolling live on the breaking story that a major
Emergency Response
operation is ongoing on merseyside after a
Coach Carrying Schoolchildren
overturned on a motorway. Police were called just after eight oclock on the m 53 in the wirral. Our
Correspondent Nick Garnet

Alder Hey Hospital

and can treat a range of injuries. They have been bringing people here since the accident happened and a number are being treated here. Families have also been arriving and hospitals have made special arrangements to help families and liaise with them and keep them in touch with what is happening on the accident and emergency unit is a little bit further round from where i am at the front of the hospital, behind me. And
Everything Else
in the hospital is running as normal but what they are asking is that if you have, because they are so busy, if you have a child who is slightly ill and you are thinking of possibly bringing them down to accident and emergency, to not do that unless its urgent that they are treated immediately because they have to prioritise as much support and care for those who are injured who might be being treated here. In terms of statements from the hospital they confirm they are treating the number of patients following the incident and we will continue to support and liaise with families directly. Our
Emergency Department
is currently extremely busy, and as i said, they are asking parents to only bring their children to the department if it is urgent. All other appointments and services at the hospital are running normally. This is a hospital on the outskirts of liverpool, four miles from livable city centre, probably about eight or nine miles from where the accident happened. The closest hospital to happen is arrow park in wirral and a statement from the hospital says the trust is dealing with the incident following the crash and clear plans in place and the trust declared a
Major Incident
and that has been stood up to manage the situation. The medical director at the
University Teaching
hospital says our thoughts are with those affected by the event, and we offer support to any casualties and relatives arriving at the hospital. The staff are professionally trained and prepared for such events and have established a
Major Incident
team to coordinate and manage the
Emergency Response
. Arrow park is mainly an adult hospital, so the children, the adults, may be, if there are any that have been taken to hospital there are going there and the children who need extra care are being brought to this specialist unit at ten one, but it means this is a busy hospital at
The Best Of Times
and even busy at the moment, and the message from the
Hospital Staff
is that if you do not need to bring your child into hospital and especially to the a e department, please dont do so today while they are carrying on treating patients because of what happened earlier this morning. You because of what happened earlier this morning because of what happened earlier this morning. You did give us a bit of an inside. This morning. before being taken elsewhere and they will know exactly what type of injuries they would have been expecting that they would have been in immediate contact. These are well put in place plans for such an incident as this. The fact is that this is on the wirral, on the other side of the river mersey where this happened, so the ambulances will have to come through the river mersey itself, underneath, past livable
Royal Hospital
where more people will have been treated if need be and then brought to this unit

I also just want to bring it a tweet from the
Merseyside Police
commissioner, who has said my thoughts are with everybody affected by this worrying incident and whilst i understand there will be deep concern i would urge people not to speculate online or share any posts that could cause distress. She continues to say
Emergency Services
are at the scene and we are working safely to remove and treat anybody needing medical support. Please avoid the area if you can. , now lets get more on this breaking story. We are rolling on the major
Emergency Response
operation on merseyside after a
Coach Carrying Schoolchildren
overturned on a motorway. Police were called just after eight oclock on the wirral this morning. If you want to carry on following this new story and you cannot watch television and then head to our website, to the bbc news website and we have a live page where we have

on all aspects of the story. The latest on there is that alder hey

are treating a number of patients. It earlier declared a
Major Incident
. Whilst the number of casualties so far we know has not been made clear. The hospital has confirmed it is treating a number of patients. So lets get a recap on exactly what we know, as details are still coming in and this story still emerging and we are still finding out exactly what has happened and how many people have been injured. Lets cross to our newsroom. Letsjust have been injured. Lets cross to our newsroom. Lets just go through the facts. What we know so far. . We know the facts. What we know so far. . Know that two
Grammar School
s have confirmed one of their buses was involved in the incident and we know that 50 people have been assessed at the scene and one female patient has been taken to hospital with major injuries. I do want to bring you a statement that has been released by the
North West Ambulance
service. They as well have declared a
Major Incident
like alder hey
Childrens Hospital
have and they say they have dispatched a large number of resources to the scene including ambulances, advanced paramedics a
Hazardous Area Response
team and an h ems doctor so what we are seeing is a major response by the
Merseyside Community
because of how serious this incident is. We are looking at these scenes, they are shocking. You are talking about a bus taking kids to school and thats going to cause a serious amount of concern and given what the hospital has said about the fact they are encouraging parents to only bring children who have immediate and urgent concerns, its clear that they are dealing with a serious incident and we also know that nhs staff at the picket line are going back to work, given the fact that the community is pulling back to work, given the fact that the community is putting together here to help all of those in need. And of course at the heart of this, it is children, pupils who were travelling to school between schools and we are not clear on where they are travelling and what the purpose of the trip was but it was early in the morning and there were dozens of children on board so what exactly are the school is telling us and parents at the moment . Are the school is telling us and parents at the moment . They are sa in parents at the moment . They are saying into parents at the moment . They are saying into statements parents at the moment . They are saying into statements that parents at the moment . They are saying into statements that they l parents at the moment . They are i saying into statements that they are supporting families and students who were involved and they have confirmed that their own students were involved in one of the buses was involved in the crash but its important to also repeat what the
Merseyside Police
commissioner has said and she insisted and asked people not to speculate on what exactly could have happened and who exactly could have happened and who exactly could have happened and who exactly could be involved until they confirm exactly what numbers are there and the reason is, as you said, children are involved and this could cause a lot of distress, especially when you are looking at a picture of an overturned bus and so many

who said two hours ago they released this to say they are aware of the situation involving one of our school buses on the motorway earlier today and we are actively gathering details and assisting the affected students and their families. Assisting the affected students and theirfamilies. They assisting the affected students and their families. They continue to say support is available and if you need to talk or seek guidance, contact the
School Office
and this seems to be a similar message from what hearing not from the schools, but police and mp5 hearing not from the schools, but police and mps in the local area. The local labour mp has said anyone involved or distressed by the incident or who needs any sort of assistance can contact the local
Constituency Office
because when it comes to an incident like this there are those who are involved in those who are injured orfacing major injuries and as we know that one female patient has had and these are very difficult images for the community to look at, so the impact of that distress, the questions that may arise in people wondering where the people they know are involved and there is a real need to know as well but right now given the seriousness of the potential injuries involved, that is why hospital like alder hey
Childrens Hospital
is urging parents who are concerned or who have had children that might have been involved in the accident to only bring their children if they require urgent care so they can focus their efforts on the children who need it most. This the children who need it most. As

Helicopter Camera
and i have to let you know these are not live pictures, these are pictures from earlier on but this is the overturned coach that was carrying schoolchildren from two different schools, and you can see around the coach there is a ladder towards the front of the coach and a number of pieces of
Emergency Equipment
are dotted around the road and this is quite disturbing, really, disturbing images of the bus would have overturned on a busy fast moving motorway and eyes can see the pictures earlier on from the
Helicopter Camera
and a fire engine isjust
Helicopter Camera
and a fire engine is just close to the bus as this huge operation is under way. And just as we are taking a look at these pictures, what we know about how many people have been injured. Have we had any numbers is coming to us yet. We do know one woman has suffered serious injuries. Do we know any more about the
Young Children
. . Mcrae of the hospital said they are treating a number of patients and are unable to give further details on individual patient so when it comes to how many children were involved in how many were injured, we dont have those numbers and thats why
Merseyside Police
has asked us not to speculate but we do know that 50 people were assessed at the scene and that one female patient was taken to hospital with major injuries, but of course, given the fact the hospital i said theyre treating a number of patients and theyve asked parents to only bring their child if its an urgent case, its clear its a very serious situation for the hospital and

We know the schools involved in the accident happened at around the time you would expect children to be transported to schools so they do various pick ups around the wirral and its children from two schools involved and these would have been buses operating to take them to school and i think all over the country the same thing was happening, there would be buses taking children to school around that time which is why so many of us can empathise and sympathise with what those parents are going through. Mick Whiteley as well, so all of the wirral mps have got involved. Its that kind of community, really. We were contacted by a local councillor who was stuck in the queue close to where the accident happened and gave some updates, so i think people are rallying around and hopefully the children will get the help they need and, yes, we are that kind of community so im sure everyone will be thinking of those children and giving them the help they need in the coming days. Alder Hey Hospital. At the moment we dont know the number of children brought here. If} number of children brought here. 3 2 children were number of children brought here. Lj;2 children were on number of children brought here. Lj2 children were on the coach and a number have been brought in. The hospital says that the
Emergency Department is currently extremely busy and what they are asking is there anyone who has a sick child in there anyone who has a sick child in the area who may have been coming into hospital, if they can, delay the journey unless it is urgent and they need immediate treatment. They are asking people who may have come down here because they cant get an appointment elsewhere not to come down at the moment and not to come down at the moment and not to come down to leave the hospital as clear as it can so it can treat those who are injured. They are not expecting any more patients to be brought in to the hospital here. This is in effect the
Third Hospital out in terms of escalating rings from where the crash happened. The crash happened in wirral and the nearest hospital is arrowe park and in the next nearest is the
Royal Liverpool hospital and this one is further out from liverpool city centre, four miles from the city centre, but a specialist
Childrens Hospital. They have staff here who can treat children better than almost anywhere in the world and they are being brought here for that treatment. The hospital says we can confirm we are treating a number of patients and we will continue to liaise and support the families of those who have been injured but they are unable to share any more details at the moment. The hospital says it will continue to treat people for as long as possible and as long as needed. We know that nhs workers were striking in other hospitals and have been brought in and come involuntarily and ended their strike and have gone into work. By the time we arrived this morning there was nothing going on in terms of
Ticket Action so there is no
Strike Action here and we do not know if the doctors have gone in or if there was
Strike Action affecting this hospital at all, but we know that the hospital is treating patients as much as they possibly can and they are not giving any details out at the moment about the numbers involved but they dont expect any more of those who have been hurt at the scene to be coming here in the next couple of hours. Frankly, we heard earlier. From jamie bowman about the sort of community that merseyside is and its very evident when you are looking at the response here that all
Emergency Services and local mps are pulling all
Emergency Services and local mps are putting together and we do know that nhs workers on the picket line in the wirral have left the picket line to get back to work, recognising how serious this incident is and when you look at the images of the overturned bus, knowing that the two
Grammar Schools have confirmed one of the buses was involved, knowing alder hey
Childrens Hospital has confirmed its treating a number of patients and has said parents should only bring their child if it is an urgent case. It is clear its a time for the community to come together and
Evenif The Community to come together and even if you are not in merseyside, for you and i, looking at these images now on the screen, it is a shocking scene. Anything to do with children can be extremely distressing which is why the
Merseyside Police commissioner has specifically asked individuals not to speculate on who exactly could have been involved in a major injury here and all we know is the
Emergency Services have confirmed that one female patient has been taken to hospital with major injuries and that 50 people were assessed on the scene. Emergency Services have left a lot of equipment out on the road, obviously very fast moving scene as
Emergency Services would have responded to dozens of pupils. When it comes to numbers and injuries, do we know much more about how severe the injuries are for the children we know that
Arrowe Park Hospital said they are treating a number of patients and they have declared a
Major Incident and that it is asking parents to only bring their child if it is an urgent case. It is an urgent case. Clearly they need a lot it is an urgent case. Clearly they i need a lot of help which is why the nhs workers are going back to work and trying to respond. And we know that 50 people were assessed on the scene, and of course those numbers are distressing and in terms of how many children have actually been injured, we dont have those figures yet. But as we said all along, these updates are coming in regularly as the situation develops and the hospital right now is focused on treating those who need the urgent help.
