the suspension applies to both national and international football. it follows his refusal to resign after being accused of forcibly kissing a winner of the women's world cup on the lips. earlier, the spanish football federation accused jenni hermoso of lying about the incident when she said she did not consent to being kissed on the lips by him following spain's victory over england in sydney. the organisation said it would take legal action against her. more than 80 players have now said they'll boycott games until he quits. 0ur sports correspondent, joe lynskey, reports. spain's winning world cup moment could soon become a legal battle. this was the kiss from the fa president that overshadowed the week they became world champions. luis rubiales has refused to resign, and now the dispute has gone further. last nightjenni hermoso said... "as was seen in the images, at no time did i consent to the kiss." the spanish football federation has hit back. they say, "the president will show each of the lies that are spread, either by someone on behalf of the player or by the player herself," and that they will now take legal action. the rfef say these pictures prove rubiales right, and that this lift from hermoso meant she also gave consent. she has denied that action even happened. translation: is that so serious that i have to leave while having done - the best job for spanish football? yesterday, mr rubiales had been expected to stand down, but instead came defiance. translation: iwill not resign, i will not resign. i he said five times, "i will not resign." but in the hours that followed, key names in spanish football spoke out. 81 female players now say they won't play for their country until he has gone. alexia putellas is the current ballon d'or holder. she tweeted, "this is unacceptable, it's over." while borja iglesias plays in la liga for real betis, and was capped for the men's team back in march. he said, "i have made the decision not to return to the national team until things change." this was the front page this morning of spain's biggest sports paper. the headline in marca read "global embarrassment". when rubiales spoke yesterday, it was met mostly with applause. but one vice president within the federation has stepped down in protest. translation: i have presented my resignation after seeing that - luis rubiales continues to head the spanish federation. i have been the only president of the presidents commission who has told him so, looking him in the face. i owe a lot of things to luis, but what happened in the final, especially in the box, is unacceptable. 0ur reporter sergi forcada is in the newsroom. tell us about this provisional suspension. tell us about this provisional susnension-_ tell us about this provisional susension. , , , ., tell us about this provisional susension. , , , . _ suspension. this is the statement by fifa, the disciplinary _ suspension. this is the statement by fifa, the disciplinary committee - fifa, the disciplinary committee which has been released a few minutes ago, that confirms a suspension provisionally of lewis rubiales. this suspension is affected from today and it will last for 90 days. it affects both national, football and international as well. what we know and what fifa has said is mr rubiales has to refrain from contacting jenni hermoso, which is the player he kissed during the world cup. 0r attempting to contact her. we know the spanish football federation or trying to approach and contactjenni hermoso in the past few days, which was unsuccessful. now what fever is saying, don't even explore that idea because you should not contact the player whilst this investigation by fifa is ongoing. what is the general reaction? no reaction, buti fifa is ongoing. what is the general reaction? no reaction, but i am sure many in spain will have a lot to say. look at the front pages of spanish media this morning. rubiales everywhere, on the front page in newspapers in spain, despite the fact he said he didn't want to resign and was a vocal, so newspapers are saying he has no choice. sooner or later he will have to go, whether because of pressure from fifa or other investigations already ongoing in spain. through some national authorities. let's look at a couple offer and pages. saying this is a global mass, global embarrassment. another one comparing it to the meat to movement, saying it to the meat to movement, saying it has turned into the movements —— tend four young people who died in a crash in county tipperary in ireland have been identified by police. 24—year—old luke mcsweeney, his sister 18—year—old grace mcsweeney and nicola murphy and zoey coffey, also 18—years—old died in the incident in clonmel on friday night. it's thought they had been on their way to celebrate after receiving the results of their exams, when the car hit a wall. police say they're continuing to investigte what happened. around 2,000 items are thought to have been stolen from the british museum, but some of the missing treasures have started to be recovered. that's according to the museum's chairman. the organisation is one of the uk's most prestigious cultural institutions, but revealed earlier this month that a number of treasures were reported missing, stolen or damaged. a member of museum staff suspected of involvement has been sacked. and hartwig fischer, the museum director, is stepping down after saying a 2021 investigation was mishandled. former chancellor, george osborne, is now chair of trustees at the british museum and has been speaking to radio 4's today programme. on behalf of the british museum, i want to apologise for what has happened. we believe we have been the victim of thefts over a long period of time and frankly, more could have been done to prevent them, but i promise you this. it is a mess that we are going to clear up and i can tell you today that we have already started to recover some of the stolen items and we are going to deliver the stronger leadership that the public and the dedicated staff of the museum deserve and make sure that we emerge with a stronger british museum that is fit for the 21st century. there's disruption to rail services across much of england today, as members of the rmt union take part in their latest strike over pay and conditions. there's a reduced timetable in place for much of the country, with some journeys into scotland and wales also affected. it's on the same day as events including the notting hill carnival, and reading and leeds festivals. it's the 24th strike since last summer. let's get more on this with ellie price. she is outside euston station here in london. it is busy, there are trains running but a lot have been delayed. there have been plenty of people expecting to get on trains and haven't been able to because they have been cancelled. a reduced service, and thatis cancelled. a reduced service, and that is the picture across the country. half of the timetable services across 14 different train operating companies have been cancelled today, and the other half running are subject to disruption. a number of frustrated people, but largely they have been able to get on trains hours later. this is a strike going on for 18 months, or at least industrial action has. it is a row over pay. the government says has facilitated a deal. the train companies say they have offered members of the rmt union a 5% pay deal. the union say it isn't enough. we want a decent pay rise, we are not greedy. we haven't had an offer, a clean pay rise without strings attached. and we're not prepared to fund these very modest pay rises through job cuts and cuts to the services that will affect our members but will also affect the travelling public, and many people who accept... ..who should expect a turn up and go, accessible, safe and secure railway. a lot of the criticism has been surrounding today on the fact it is the bank holiday weekend in the uk. there are a number of big events happening that people will find it difficult to get to. there is that reading and leeds festivals. there is a notting hill carnival, and in international rugby game in twickenham. people will find it difficult to get places, but they should probably get used to it. more strike action planned for friday, their knack saturday the rmt will go out on strike. train travellers should get used to it —— next saturday. the advice is to check before you travel. the second biggest seller of e—cigarettes in the uk — ske — has taken down its social media accounts after bbc reporters were able to obtain free vapes in an online giveaway, without age verification. it's illegal to sell vapes to under 18s. the company say its "reviewing" its accounts before relaunching them. our business reporter, ben king, has more. this is crystal bar, a vape made by the chinese company ske. # and she said i wish that i could # be like the cool kids #. in less than two years they have become the second biggest vape seller in the uk, selling over 100 million disposable vapes a year, promoted on social media such as tiktok and instagram. ske has been giving away its crystal bar vapes on discord's instant messaging app, which has lots of users who are under 18. now, we entered one of those giveaways. here is the vape they sent us. it's vimbull ice flavour. i had to say i was over 18 but nothing was done to verify that and when i raised the issue with ske, it took most of its social media accounts down. we are in a review process at the moment and we are looking to relaunch them with a local social media company that has a little a bit more of an understanding of the local laws, the local customs. so one of the videos i saw on your accounts had a crystal bar being opened to the sound of a song that goes, "i wish that i could be like the cool kids," you know, "the cool kids know how to fit in." you can't defend that, can you? none of our policies are geared towards marketing to children. it is an adult product, it's regulated quite correctly as an adult product in the uk. and so what we are trying to do with the media accounts is just build up a little bit of a buzz, really. now, your big rivals bat and elfbar say that they don't do any marketing on tiktok. when this review is complete, do you think we'll see you back on tiktok? probably not me personally. but certainly we will be looking to relaunch with an exciting new strategy on tiktok. 0nline and off—line giveaways have been important marketing tools for ske. 0k, will you be doing any more giveaways of vapes? i'm not sure of any giveaways at the moment, but we'll have to see what the conclusion of the review process is and then we'll learn a little bit more information then. and again, is that something you would apologise for? for the giveaway specifically? not necessarily for the giveaways. 0bviously age verification is of course important, so that's something we will be implementing with a local company going forward. paperwork filed earlier this month at companies house shows that ske is partly owned and controlled by the chinese government. 0nly menthol and tobacco flavours are allowed in china but here, ske sells fruit and sweet flavour vapes. gummy bearvapes, who are they aimed at? so with all of our flavours we don't want to necessarily ring fence adults into a certain category of flavours. a big proportion of the confectionery market is consumed by adults. so the aim is of course not to market to children or to adolescents. the aim is to market to adults that have already developed a palate around those flavours, and also there is a bit of nostalgia. disposable vapes contain batteries and electronics which are difficult to dispose of or recycle. councils want them banned. but until the bbc contacted them, ske hadn't registered with the uk's electronic waste recycling schemes. again, because the legislation surrounding recycling is a little bit difficult to identify from our team's perspective, so we've glad you've highlighted that and we have addressed that in full and we have signed up to the relevant scheme. ske is the fastest growing company in a rapidly evolving market. they say it has been difficult to keep up with but they are here to stay. at least nine people have been killed and nearly 50 injured after a train carriage caught fire in southern india. the carriage was detached from the train and stationed at the madurai railway yard in the southern state of tamil nadu. authorities say the fire broke out before dawn when a passenger tried to make tea. india has one of the world's largest rail networks and has seen several disasters over the years. now it's time for a look at today's sport. hello from the bbc sport centre. thank you. totte n ha m tottenham are 2—0 up. five minutes left of normal time. the side they beat last week play nottingham forest. later, arsenal could go top when they play fulham and will welcome back striker gabrieljesus who's set to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from a knee injury. manager mikel arteta is looking forward to his return. it was a big blow for him after the preseason he had to have another surgery. he's looking really sharp. he trained the full week really good. he's ready to go. football's world governing body fifa has provisionally suspended spanish federation president luis rubiales. it came after the spanish fa threatened legal action against 81 players who are refusing to represent the women's national team as long as rubiales remains president. he's refused to resign after strong criticism for kissing player jenni hermoso on the lips after the world cup final, saying it was consesual and that "a social assassination is taking place" which he will "fight until the end." hermoso says rubiales' claims that he kissed her with consent are "categorically false." there are eight gold medals up for grabs on the penultimate day of the world athletics championships in hungary. the first has already been claimed in the women's marathon, which took place in the early morning to avoid the high temperatures in budapest. amane beriso finished well clear of fellow ethiopian and defending champion gotytom gebreslase to win gold in 2:24:23. having already completed a sensational sprint double by winning the 100 and 200 metres titles, amercia's noah lyles will be hoping to end the world championships with three gold medals when the 4x100 metres relay finals take place later on saturday and the fastest man on the planet is feeling characteristically confident: this is the final one. the way me and coach look at it as the individuals are the hard ones. these are the ones you how to put all your mental into. it is a fly, i do a fly in practice. as long as i get the button, nobody is catching me. if there is somebody in front of me, they better pray because i am coming for them. the build up to next month's rugby world cup has not been plain sailing for england. they have lost four of their last five games and the squad has been hampered by injuries and suspensions. today's final warm—up match against fiji at twickenham will be courtney lawes' 100th cap for his country and he believes the side can raise their level for when it matters. we just want to play how we know we can for each other, and we know we'll get there. so, you know, we're not... we're not too worried. we don't listen to a lot of the noise because...you know, when... when... when it matters, i think... i think we'll, you know, we'll start performing how we know we can. hoping to pull off one of the biggest shocks in british boxing history, heavyweight daniel dubois says he's ready to "prove to the world" he's the best as he prepares to fight the champion 0leksandr usyk tonight. the wbo, wba and ibf titles are on the line in poland. at the weigh—in dubois here, 25 years old, came in at his lightest for six years at 16st 9lbs, weighing in almost a stone heavier than usyk, who is the overwhelming favourite. and that's all the sport for now. we will have more for you later. it's the final weekend of the world's largest arts festival. throughout the past month thousands of people from across the globe have visited the scottish capital to witness the edinburgh festival fringe. live now to our reporter courtney spain. peter has provisionally suspended the president of spain's football association. this was all about the issue of the case at the end of the world cup final on that spanish player. in the last hour or so, fifa announcing they have provisionally suspended the president of spain's football association, lewis rubiales. we will bring you them when we get updates. plenty more online. you can get me on social media. this is bbc news. hello there. it's feeling a bit cooler than it has done of late, certainly across southern areas and with low pressure nearby, the rest of this weekend will certainly be one of sunshine and showers. we've had some pretty heavy and thundery showers already across more northern parts of the uk. looks like through today i think some of the heaviest of the showers will tend to be across more central and eastern parts of the country and more of a breeze down western areas of western scotland, northern ireland, through the irish sea, down into wales and south west england, slightly lighter winds further east. so these showers which develop across england, well, certainly towards the east will be heavy thundery and slow moving as well. temperature wise, it will feel on the cool side, pleasant enough in the sunshine, but when those showers turn out, it will feel quite fresh at times. temperatures, high teens, low 20s. and we'll continue to see sunshine and showers both at the reading and leeds festival during the course of the afternoon and into tomorrow as well. now, most of the very heavy showers fade away through tonight. there will continue to be a few showers dotted across northern and western areas with lengthy, clear skies. clouds will thicken up, though, across northern ireland ahead of this weather front and temperature wise, that's around 8 to 10 degrees, i think for most of us. sun starts off nice and bright, plenty of sunshine, central and eastern areas. we won't be long till the showers get going again. this weakening weather front will push into northern ireland, bringing more persistent light in patchy rain here, eventually crossing the irish sea to reach western britain, but very much as a weaker feature. so most of the country, again, sunshine and showers. temperatures range from the high teens, the low 20s, of course, it's the notting hill carnival as well during sunday and into monday. so sunday, caterfor the chance of some showers. i think drier, though, for monday. and the reason for it a little bit dry on monday is this brief ridge of high pressure trying to build in. that's what squeezes out that weather front. so we could see one or two showers across eastern england without weather front as it fades away. otherwise, for mundane, this is a bank holiday. for many, it should be largely dry for england. wales, plenty of sunshine around, a bit more cloud for scotland and northern ireland. but even here there will be some brighter, sunnier moments. at times, though, we could be up to 21 or 22 degrees in the south east. given more sunshine and light winds, the rest of the week looks fairly unsettled. most of the showers will be in northern areas, but it could turn a bit wetter for england and wales towards the end of the new week. this is bbc news. the headlines... fifa has provisionally suspended the president of spain's football association, luis rubiales. this is following his refusal to resign after kissing spanish women's playerjenni hermoso on the lips following spains win over england in the world cup final. 81 team members refused to play until he was removed. rail passengers across england are experiencing disruption today, as 20,000 staff have walked out over pay and working conditions. workers from 14 train operators are taking part in the strike, which is its 24th since last summer. investigations into thefts at the british museum continue — as the institution says some of the 2,000 items believed to be stolen have started to be recovered. this is bbc news. now on bbc news, the travel show. from historical landmarks...
