are with al where we work with the internet 25 years ago, when we didn't know who were going to be the winners and losers. if you went back, the winners didn't exist then and for nvidia, don't exist then and for nvidia, don't exist now. the other implication of the stock market is that nvidia has a valuation of more than $1 trillion for shares, the six most valuable companies in the world, one of the companies in the world, one of the companies that has driven us stock market performance. it has to keep the stock market buoyant. i back it is astonishing that it is one of the world's most valuable companies, yet many will not have had a bit. chances are, increasingly, they will be using it. i am looking at the numbers. one of the chips, d h 100, it sells for £40,000 —— $40,000. to sustain regular purchase of those products? now, the chief executive of nvidia brushed that off, yesterday saying that we are in the early stages of ai, there is more to come. but i know that some analysts out there so there has been such a panic to buy these, the growth rate that the company has is not going to be sustainable. it had better be, our office prices for shares will go down. ~ , . the plan has drawn heavy criticism from beijing as our asia business reporterjoao da silva reports. follows a similar move as was announced earlier this week by hong kong. japan is a fishing powerhouse. last year, it exported well over $2 billion worth of marine products. so unfortunately, this backlash we are seeing just can't be written off. the japanese government has recognized this, saying they expect a significant hit from those trade restrictions. that's especially the case because the backlash is coming from some of its major export markets. china is the biggest importer of japanese seafood, so that ban will definitely hurt. and that's on top of another ban by the number two market for japanese seafood exports. that's hong kong, which along with neighboring macau, has banned marine imports from several japanese regions, including of course, fukushima. so definitely, japan's fishing industry will be negatively impacted by this. now, whether or not this is justified, that is the question here. the japanese government has said the process is safe and so have international bodies like the un nuclear watchdog, the international atomic energy agency, which confirmed that japan's plan to release those waters meets international standards. they also said the environmental and public health impact of this will be negligible. but it must be said that it's not just china opposing this. we've seen protests in south korea and elsewhere and environmental campaigners have spoken out against this as well, saying the impact hasn't been fully studied. that oscillators from our hub in singapore. it is worth saying that in the last hour, the japanese prime minister has said the government has demanded china immediately eliminate its import ban on that seafood from japan. so, a war of words as hong kong and china now impose that ban on imports. this week, we've been looking at the future of work spaces around the world. in the united states, office vacancy rates have hit a 30 year high with many staff choosing to work more flexibly after the pandemic. but it's a different picture in asia. since the end of restrictions, people have been returning to the office en masse and city centres are booming again. the bbc*s asia business correspondent nick marsh joined the lunchtime rush in singapore and sent this report. in singapore, lunch hour is the real rush hour, but this is a far cry from even just the year ago. it's a lot busier. they come round in there and period lines are really, really long. it has changed completely during covid. it used to be like a ghost town. nobody used to be there. and now, as things are opening up, i mean, now it's pretty much back to normal. easy, cheap commuting and a business culture that values face time have spurred the office comeback. while many in western countries are still embracing the chance to work from home, singaporeans haven't been as keen. your living spaces are much smaller and also culturally there is a tendency to live in multigenerational family homes. so if you're not married, you're probably living at home with your parents. as a working professional, you would probably prefer to spend more time in the office as opposed to constantly being home around your family. that's just natural. asia had some of the world's longest and strictest pandemic rules, and city centres like singapore's were unusually quiet until not that long ago. but that's all in the past. now you've just got to look around. people are back in the city, back in the office. the central business district is the place to be. and if you own a commercial property, it's boom time around the corner, a malaysian developer is building this 64 floors of prime office real estate. 11 of which will reportedly go to amazon, fully shelter 11 of which will reportedly go to amazon. there's been no issues getting companies to move in. not only are a flood of chinese and us tech firms coming to singapore, banks and financial companies also see it as a stable base in asia, especially compared to places such as hong kong and china. we do see that there is more confidence, more pick ups, more and more inquiries and commitments coming in. only 6% of offices here are currently vacant in london. are currently vacant. in london, it's nearly double that. in new york, it's 22%. they're the future of the working space is in doubt here. the pull of the city centre is as strong as ever. nick marsh, bbc news, singapore. shares in the exercise bike company peloton have slumped by as much as a quarter to a new low ofjus over $5 after it missed profit expectations. the company has been battling a drop in subscribers as workers returned to the office following the end of lockdown restrictions. during the height of the covid pandemic shares in peloton traded above $170. the australian airline qantas has posted a record profit this year reiterating its forecast to have international flights back to pre covid flights back to pre—covid levels by the middle half of next year. as part of its quarterly results the company said it would also be ordering 24 wide body aircraft. the airline though has been critcised over cancelled flights, lost luggage, long call centre delays and difficutly claiming refunds. i don't think that they are alone in that. the european commission has adopted a new set of right to repair rules that, among other things, will add electronic devices like smartphones and tablets to a list of goods that must be built with repairability in mind. the new rules will need to be negotiated between the european parliament and member states before they can be turned into law. if they are, a lot more thanjust repairability requirements will change. recent trends of embedding batteries in products have often resulted in practically disposable devices, which drives up expenditure and waste. and thanks to these new eu rules as of 2027, portable devices and light means of transport, so think e—bikes and e—scooters will have to be designed with replaceable batteries. the main players in the production of electronics are international economic actors with complicated production chains. so by setting repairability requirements for products that are allowed to enter the eu market. the eu can influence global production and we are already seeing it, for instance, for the common charger. this was established by the eu for smartphones and other portable electronics to reduce e—waste and also to improve consumer convenience. and india, for instance, is soon expected to follow. so we are already seeing global knock on effects. tackling tech waste is such a big problem right now. that could be one way of trying to solve it. there is more about those stories on the bbc website. if you want to reach me, you can meet find me on social media. another edition of world business report coming soon. we all see the beauty of the kerr who stunned norway's olympic champion yakob ingebrigtsen to take gold in the 1500m at the world athletics championships in budapest. kerr clocked a season's best three minutes and 29 seconds to make his first podium at a worlds. it comes one year after ingebrigtsen was beaten by britain's jake wightman in similar circumstances in eugene. you know, ithink, in your sporting career, you are outside well, it sounds rather daunting, when he said like that. and ijust
