Welcome to the programme. Manchester united and the striker Mason Greenwood have agreed it would be best for him to leave the club to continue his career. It follows an internal investigation at old trafford into claims against him of attempted rape and coercive control. Criminal charges against him had already been dropped. Today the club said he had not committed any offences. Greenwood remains on full pay while united work with him to find him a club, as olly foster reports. Greenwood, whos in, and he scored. Manchester united is all Mason Greenwood has ever known. He joined them at the age of seven, and they turned him into a star The Future Notjust for his club, but also his country. But in january last year, Mason Greenwood was arrested. He appeared in court, charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. He was suspended by united, but in february of this year all charges were dropped because key witnesses withdrew. But that triggered the start of an internal investigation at the club, and theres now been a mutual agreement that he should leave. They say that based on the evidence available to us, weve concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes, which hes taking responsibility for. Well, in his own statement, greenwoods continued to deny that he committed any of the offences in those original charges against him. But he says that he understands that people will think the worst of him and judge him by what theyve seen online. He also says that hes learning to understand the responsibilities of setting a good example as a professional footballer and also the huge responsibility of being a father. On the first day of the season, there were protests at old trafford from womens charities and supporters groups when it appeared that greenwood would be reintegrated into the squad. So was there a u turn by the club . Clearly, it became a pr nightmare for Manchester United over the last few days, and on friday night theyd reached the point where the backlash from from those charities, from mps, from supporters, had become so intolerable that united eventually realised there was no way back. Im glad its happened now. I feel like theyre listening to the voices of women, listening to the voices, not just of Manchester United women, the fans, the players, but listening to the voices of all women across the world. Manchester united say that the clubs standards and values were considered when making their decision, but they will also have weighed up the potential damage to their global brand and the fans reaction. But when he does leave, united say theyll continue to support him and also his alleged victim. Olly foster, bbc news old trafford. Beth mead says englands recent performances, including reaching the womens world cup final, have put womens football in an incredible place. The 28 year old arsenal forward who missed the tournament with injury has been talking about how much inspiration the team has provided. I was so proud of what theyve done, you know, the adversity and the injuries and everything that theyve gone through. You know, a Suspension Mid Tournament and how theyve dealt with it. I was so, so proud of what theyve done. I was so happy for them. You know, theyre like family anyway. So you just, you love them girls and you want them to do well on the pitch. Obviously, the sad emotion was not being able to be a part of it with them. And obviously if i hadnt had my injury, could i have been there with them . And you think, could i have helped . Could we have done this . Could we have that . But its all ifs and buts now. But yeah, its been a tough watch, but ive loved every minute of it at the same time. So its been yeah, a lot of mixed emotions throughout. When you think 1966, i think, was the last World Cup Trophy lifted and the womens game was banned at that point. So when you look at it in that sense. Weve had a lot of barriers tojump over and were still kind of doing that. You know, the game is progressing in amazing, rate and an amazing way now. But, you know, them players before us, we respect and know what they did to pave the way and were still trying to do that now. You know, its not perfect. It probably never will be perfect, but we can keep pushing and we can keep creating legacies. Its another step in the right direction. And yeah, we just fell short this time around. But like we said, the girls can walk away from this town and have their heads held high. And as a nation, were super, super proud of them. And thats the lioness squad. You know, weve set our standards within the last two years, and now weve just got to keep pushing, you know, due to scheduling, the girls are back within the next month or so to go and play nations league. And youve got a kind of get rid of that disappointment and focus on the next thing and that ultimately could be an olympics. So yeah, theres a lot more to come from this lioness team. Does that progression include, for example, majorshirt companies manufacturing a certain goalkeeper s jersey . I mean, yeah, its top and bottom. Like mary said that they saying that goalkeeper is not important because what mary did within that tournament and the last tournament has been incredible. Like shes the best in the world right now and she doesnt have a jersey. You know, she didnt have a shirt that, you know, Young Boys And Girls can buy. And does that mean that goalkeeper is not important . No. From number one to number 23, the staff behind the squad, everybody is important. And that should be that should be out there for mary. And im glad she spoke up about it. To the victors go the spoils though as spain landed in madrid on monday night to show off their trophy to thousands of adoring fans. Jorge vildas team bounced back from a tough group phase to progress all the way to a final and 1 0 victory over england as they won the tournament for the first time. Arsenals100 start to the new premier League Season has continued with a 1 0 win away at crystal palace. Mikel artetas team claimed all three points with a second half penalty from Martin Odegaard after palace Goalkeeper Samjohnstone had fouled eddie nketiah. Arsenal then saw Takehiro Tomiyasu sent off for picking up a second booking, but held on for victory. To play 30 minutes in this league away from home with ten men is something extremely difficult to do. The contribution of the subs, i think they were magnificent. They really understood what we had to do. Wed hardly giving anything away and credit to them again for being under difficulties and the decisions stay there. Rangers host dutch side Psv Eindhoven in glasgow on tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier. Michael beale s team saw off swiss Side Servette in the last round and stand on the verge of making it in to europes elite competition, but he knows they face a stern test. Tomorrow night is the first look of two very good teams coming up against each other. I think were up against a formidable opponent. Its when i look at the draw of the other legs, then i think were saying were playing against probably the strongest side we could play right now. Its a real big opportunity for the club, for the players and the fans and everybody. And so im looking for us to show a real strong foot in the first leg and set up the second leg in eindhoven. On day three of the World Athletics Championships in budapest, americas Shacarri Richardson claimed Herfirst Global Championship gold medal, winning the womens 100m final. There are dual captains, Ospreys Jac Morgan and dewi lake taking on that responsibility. Theyre two of the 19 forwards and 1a backs that make up the squad. Gatland explained how having two captains will work. Depending on what game it is, you know, one will lead and be kept in for that day and the other will be supporting them. So, yeah, just, you know, i think its a good opportunity, something that i have never done before. But i did speak about it, particularly to younger players in the squad and captain and both of them have got a big future ahead of them. And weve just got time to show you some amazing pictures from an extreme Mountain Biking festival in germany. This is germanys Patricia Druwen becoming the first woman to complete a 540 and a Backflip Triple Barspin on a mountain bike. In total, eight tricks were performed succesfully for the first time. And that is about all weve got time for. For all the latest, you can head to the bbc sport app of course or our website but from me, tulsen tollet, and the rest of the team at the Bbc Sport Centre for now, it is goodbye. Hello there. We saw plenty of sunshine and some warmth around on monday across england and wales. Top temperatures around 26 celsius across the south east of england. Over the next few days, the weathers looking pretty similar. Most of the showers will be in the north and the west. Further south and east that you are it will be warmer with more in the way of sunshine closer to this area of High Pressure which is bringing Heatwave Conditions to the near continent, particularly france, spain into parts of italy. Low pressure sitting to the north of the uk will bring stronger winds, more showers across northern and Western Areas, and thats how its looking for tuesday. We start off again with some low cloud, mist and murk. The sunshine will come out in abundance through central southern areas and then become confined to southern england through the day. More cloud, i think, elsewhere. Northern england, wales into scotland, northern ireland, most of the showers will be in the northwest corner where itll be quite breezy. High teens here, low 20s for aberdeen, and well see those temperatures range from 23 to 26 degrees again, england and wales. As we head through tuesday night, the showers tend to fade away. Well continue to see a few across northern and Western Areas and cluster of showers, even long spells of rain perhaps pushing into parts of wales as well thanks to a weak Weather Front. But elsewhere its dry, clear skies, variable cloud, temperatures low to mid teens. And into wednesday, again, very little change, a higher pressure to the south, lower pressure to the north. This weak weather from bringing thicker cloud towards wales in the south west of england. So we could start off with some Rain Across Western Wales on wednesday. Few showers continuing northern western scotland, maybe northern ireland. But again, majority of the country will see patchy cloud, some sunny spells. Best of the sunshine towards the south and the south east where we will see those temperatures again reaching around 25, 26, maybe 27 degrees. Further north, its the high teens, low 20s. Bow beyond wednesday this is where we start seeing some changes. Low pressure in the north gets its act together and starts to spread its way eastwards. That will send a Weather Front southwards, could see some big shells or thunderstorms late on thursday in the south. And then were into a Cooler North Northwesterly Wind Regime for friday and into the weekend. You can see those Orange Colours Ebbing Southwards in towards the near continents cooler colours. There you can see so. It will feel cooler and fresher for the end of the week. I think for thursday, the last of the very warm days across the southeast for now. And then to things turn cooler and fresher for all areas with a mixture of sunshine and showers. Live from washington. This is bbc news.
