we begin with the news that thousands of police officers serving in northern ireland were dreading, that details of their surnames and places of work have fallen into the hands of dissident republican groups who do not support the peace process. the chief constable of the police service of northern ireland confirmed this today after last week's data breach, in which details on more than 10,000 employees was mistakenly released online. a document posted on a wall in largely catholic west belfast, close to the sinn fein office, allegedly shows some of the information that was uploaded. sarah girvin has the full story. when news of the psni data breach broke six days ago, the force's chief constable said he was aware of claims from dissident republican paramilitaries that they had access to it. today he confirmed the information was in their hands. we are now confident that the workforce data set is in the hands of dissident republicans and it is therefore our planning assumption that they will use this list to generate fear and uncertainty as well as intimidating or targeting officers and staff. the reason why this is so concerning for thousands of people is that every police officer in northern ireland is a target for violent dissident republican paramilitaries who are against the peace process. the last attack was just a few months ago, when senior detective john caldwell was shot and seriously injured. after that, the terror threat level in northern ireland was raised to severe. that is the highest in the uk. and it is in that climate that police officers here work every day. speaking anonymously to the bbc, this psni support worker described the impact of the data leak on his life. it has brought on a level of panic that hasn't been around for a lot of years. it has given my partner issues as well. she is concerned and is extremely panicked about me going to work. earlier today, sinn fein said extracts of the leaked information were posted on a wall outside a party office in belfast before being removed by staff. their policing spokesperson said he believes dissident republicans were behind that action in a bid to prove they have the information. police are investigating those claims. the police rightly said that there was a claim that they had this information. i think this is, whoever is involved in this, it is their motive to say, actually, we do have this, and to up the ante in terms of trying to intimidate police officers and their staff. we now know that half of northern ireland's police officers have inquired through the police federation that represents rank—and—file officers about potential damages. with more than 10,000 people involved, a potential compensation bill could run into tens of millions of pounds. today, the federation urged all police officers and staff to exercise maximum vigilance. and that vigilance will be at the forefront of thousands of mines tonight. we have been speaking to police officers and psni staff over the last few days and as you can imagine, their chief concern is their safety and security and that of their families. their safety and security and that of theirfamilies. it their safety and security and that of their families. it was always the fear that this leaked information would make its way to the wrong people. now with confirmation that it is in the hands of violent dissident republicans, that fear has been realised. 56rd dissident republicans, that fear has been realised.— been realised. sara girvin, live in belfast. a ten—year—old girl found dead at a house in surrey has been named locally as sara sharif. she was found at the property on the morning of last thursday. the police say they are working with international authorities to locate three people that they want to speak in connection with their investiagion. our correspondent helena wilkinson has the story. this is a ten—year—old sara sharif, named locally, who was found dead and alone in her home in surrey. what happened to her but make how did she die? questions police are trying to find the answers to. there was a murder investigation under way. outside the house, tributes have been left for the young girl while investigators continue their work at the property. surrey police are still looking for three people who left the country the day before the ten—year—old girl was discovered. the force is working with international authorities to find them. today police confirmed that three people were known to the girl. there is still a police presence here at the semidetached house in what is quiet village in surrey. police were called here in the early hours of thursday morning to reports of concerns for safety. inside, a ten—year—old girl was found dead. tonight, police have confirmed that no one else was in the property when she was discovered. officers say they have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public, and they are working hard to build a picture of what happened. some answers might lie in the results of a postmortem examination, due to be carried out tomorrow, which should establish how ten—year—old sara died. helen wilkinson, bbc news. news now of changes for targets on nhs cancer waiting times in england. ministers argue simplifying and streamlining what patients should expect will lead to better outcomes. cancer charities have cautiously welcomed the plans, but say more cash and investment is also needed. our health editor, hugh pym, is here with the latest. the government's confirmed that nhs england will be allowed to go ahead with planned changes to cancer treatment targets. there were nine targets, most of which have been routinely missed in recent years. now there'll be just three, including the maximum four—week wait for a cancer diagnosis. that's been missed, and treatment within two months of urgent referral, with that aim not met since 2015. here are the six goals that will be downgraded — there won't be a focus on ensuring patients with a diagnosis don't wait longer than two weeks before seeing a specialist, a target last met over three years ago. and also, breast cancer patients waiting no longer than that for a first consultant appointment. the nhs says streamlining and simplifying the process around cancer treatment will be better for patients, but some doctors say more needs to be done to improve ouitcomes. more needs to be done to improve outcomes. two very different cancer stories in the same household. fiona was diagnosed with breast cancer in april and she has had surgery and started radiotherapy. but while her husband simon was told he had skin cancer last october, he still hasn't started treatment. i feel grateful that i have had my surgery and i'm getting through the other side of the cancer journey, but i have a husband who has a lesion on his back that is massive, that has heard nothing. it's like a two—tier system. there's no equality. i have been given leaflets, letters from appointments summarising what we have discussed. simon hasn't had anything since we have seen the dermatologist a year ago. it might not work for simon, but the plan to streamline waiting time targets is designed to help patients through their personal journeys. reducing the standards from nine to three, i think, will make things easier to understand for patients and will make the service focus on what is more meaningful for patients, so whether or not they have cancer, whether it will be treated in time, and how long the nhs is taking to do that whole process. but in the bigger picture, fundamentally, these changes in waiting time targets will not change waiting times on their own. some cancer campaigners say the bigger picture is the need to find more resources and develop a new strategy to improve treatment. everyone wants simpler targets, that will be easier— for patients to understand, but the problem is, we - are in the worst cancer crisis of my lifetime - and simply changing targets won't cure patients. we need to treat them faster and quicker. - one of the key targets to be maintained is the 62—day standard for starting cancer treatment after a referral. more than four in ten patients didn't begin their treatment within that time according to the latest figures, well short of the target. the labour leader keir starmer said the government was moving the goalposts with changes to targets. ministers said the plan had been put forward by nhs and medical leaders and wasn't something being imposed by the government. well, that is something that critics are going to say, isn't it, that cutting targets that are rarely met anyway is pretty convenient and potentially, this is all about politics? potentially, this is all about olitics? ~ , potentially, this is all about olitics? , , politics? well, clive, people may be a little suspicious _ politics? well, clive, people may be a little suspicious that _ politics? well, clive, people may be a little suspicious that a _ a little suspicious that a government which is being heavily scrutinised over nhs performance in england and on waiting lists building up is somehow involved in a decision to cut back on cancer waiting time targets. but nhs leaders are clear that they came up with this plan last year, put it out to consultation with cancer experts, clinical experts and doctors, and this is the result of their work. ministers have been keen to say that they have let the experts get on with it and as we understand tonight, the government has given its blessing to this all going ahead, possibly within a couple of days, with an announcement coming up. in some ways, there is a logic to this, that you get these nine targets and focus then write down on something which people will find more easy to understand, 28 days for somebody to find out if they have cancer or not and then two other targets on treatment. but the key thing is, will they actually be hit? and if they are not, then we'll confidence in the whole thing amongst patients deteriorate at a time of real pressure on the system? hugh pym there. no 10 says the home office is still trying to clarify exactly when officials knew there were health issues concerning the barge being used to house migrants moored in dorset. there are growing questions about who was responsible for moving asylum seekers onto the vessel, the bibby stockholm, before it was given the all—clear for the legionella bacteria which was later discovered in the water supply. here's dan johnson. the bibby stockholm is here to show there's nothing luxurious about our asylum system. but after something nasty turned up deep in its plumbing, the water safety people are now the only ones going abroad. the water safety people are now the only ones going aboard. so one week after the first asylum seekers moved in, all 39 are now back in hotels. this is one of them, here originally fearing religious persecution. when they said that you have to go on the barge, i refused on the first day... and now worried about water poisoning. it was a strange experience, as people said it was safe and then there was bacteria. yeah, it was kind of off. but what can i say, because i have to go with the others. last monday, test results from late july came back showing bacteria. the following day, council officials met the contractor running the vessel. on wednesday, the uk health security agency was notified. on thursday, there was an incident management meeting. and on friday, the decision was taken to move everyone out. people were moved off the barge as soon as ministers were aware. people have had health assessments, there's been no concerns in terms of any of the people that have been on the barge. this was intended to be a big, bold demonstration of the government getting tough, tackling immigration, stopping the small boats, and yet it's starting to illustrate just how complicated those issues can be and how difficult it is finding realistic, workable solutions. itjust seems a mess. everything they do just seems to end like this, where they're stuck by some legislation. if you're going to put people on there that are vulnerable in the first place, you would have checked that everything was safe. do you feel you're being treated fairly? not so much, because at the start it was said that the barge is for the illegal people who are coming by small boats, but i came here by plane. this has been controversial. it's been delayed time and again. ministers had already guaranteed its safety after numerous concerns, but the asylum seekers have now been told they will be moving back here at some point. danjohnson, bbc news, portland. officials in hawaii say they're expecting a significant rise in the number of dead, following wildfires in which at least 96 people are now known to have died. search teams are checking through the rubble of burnt—out buildings and vehicles, with hundreds of people still unaccounted for. many were forced to run into the sea to escape the flames. the fires began last tuesday, hitting four major areas on the island of maui, including the historic town of lahaina, much of which has been destroyed. in what's been an unusually dry season, the flames were fanned by winds from hurricane dora, travelling across the pacific. some are questioning the speed of the emergency response, and the timeliness of fire warnings, asjohn sudworth reports from maui. videos of the disaster continue to emerge. this one shows lahaina's residents huddled in the water — the only place of refuge they could find — as the smoke and ashes from their burning town rained down upon them. hundreds are still listed as missing. the authorities say temperatures here reached 1000 degrees. the task of both finding and identifying the bodies will take time, according to hawaii's governor, himself a trained doctor, speaking to us media. they will find ten to 20 people per day, probably, until they finish. and it is probably going to take ten days. it is impossible to guess, really. the fire was so perilous, it took lives — it didn't leave survivors. some residents have been allowed to return to the charred remains of their homes. there is our bed. but beyond the physical destruction, there is a far deeper concern for those who survived — the fate of neighbours yet unaccounted for. i'm rattling her door, like, come out, but she has locked, so i can't answer it and bring her out because she's got locked. so i'm coughing at that point, i can't talk and now i can't see so i just stumble my way out. but, you know, i'm getting burned by embers. so i'm, like, if she's in there, you know, what are her chances to survive that? we are out of the water now. those who captured footage like this on the night now hope it will do more than just shock and that these images might somehow help. hi, i'm noah, i'm the person you just saw in the remain unaccounted for with survivors from lahaina posting on social media desperate for news of loved ones. many of the dead have not yet been formally identified, such was the intensity of this fire that the authorities are having to use dental records. there is also a sense of anger, questions over whether more could have been done to warn residents of the impending disaster as well as about the adequacy of the government response to it. we are now beginning to see signs of a federal activity, the national guard, for example, manning the checkpoint outside this refuge centre and hotel rooms being brought up in large numbers to house some of the homeless. but almost a week on there is a sense that we are only now beginning to get a true picture of the challenge that lies ahead. g ., ., ~ hours ago and it looked like the charges appeared on the court's website but it turned out that really was a fake news so we don't know exactly what he is likely to be accused but it will relate to election fraud and attempts to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election here in the state of georgia. because this is where mr trump and his allies concentrated a huge amount of their efforts after the election, claiming falsely that hundreds of thousands of fake ballots had been counted in joe thousands of fake ballots had been counted injoe biden*s faber and this is where donald trump phoned the senior election official and asked him to find just enough votes to tip the state in his favour. and you remember it was actually less than a fortnight ago that donald trump appeared in court in washington on totally separate charges of election fraud, and he is of course still facing prosecution in florida over retention of classified documents, and in new york over at hush money payments. so there are a lot of court cases are stacking up for him but he is as defiant as ever and said on social media today that he did not tamper with the election results here in georgia, the police describe as a homophobic attack outside a south london pub. the men, in their twenties and thirties, were attacked outside the two brewers in clapham high street on sunday night. robin brantjoins me from clapham. robin, what more do we know? i have been watching a trickle of people going into the two brewers tonight, some being searched as they go in and there was heightened security presence at the door and a heightened police presence around as well. it is nowhere near as busy as it was 2a hours ago when the attack happened. those two men were standing outside when they were approached by a man in a mask with a knife, they were stabbed and police believe they were targeted in what they describe as a homophobic attack. what the metropolitan police is doing tonight is two things, firstly trying to find a man and to prevent a potential repeat attack but secondly, and of equal importance, is trying to reassure people living here, particular members of the gay community and more broadly the lgbtq+ community, that they are taking this very seriously. the london met said it can't describe it as appalling, saying the police are having a robust investigation —— the london mayor sadiq khan. you go get a sense there is a prevalence of violent attacks like this around it and the statistics for london suggest homophobic attacks dipped last year but nonetheless i understand tonight the met police are considering releasing some images from cctv of the man who did this with the primary aim being to find him and prevent any potential repeat of what they regard as a targeted violent attack. ., , ., ~ , ., university strikes are set to continue in september after negotiations with employers broke down. the university and college union has announced there will be railway, when trains are much heavier, they're faster, and they can't stop or swerve out of the way. well, this is a location where network rail has seen some of these incidents occur, and it says one of the reasons behind it may be people's desire for interesting videos and photos to post on social media, but it says that this sort of behaviour comes with huge risks. gasping meanwhile, people living nearby are horrified by the incidents caught on camera. it'sjust atrocious. i don't know, it's shocking, really. that's the word is, l like, very shocking. oh, that's stupid, isn't it? moises caicedo has become the most expensive signing in british football history. he's moving from brighton to chelsea for a cool £115 million. it follows a long line of transfer records. in 1979, trevor francis became the first ever million pound footballer. alan shearer cost £15 million in 1996. and the £100 million barrier was broken in 2021, whenjack grealish moved from aston villa to man city. caicedo becomes the new record holder, atjust 21 years old. and the french club paris st—germain has agreed a deal to sell the brazilian forward neymar to the saudi pro league side al—hilal. the fee is around £77 million, subject to a medical assessment. manchester united began their premier league campaign this evening, at home to wolverhampton wanderers. the score, 1—0. before kick—off, fans renewed their calls for the club owners to step down over high levels of debt at united, and there were protests that the striker mason greenwood should never be allowed to play for the club again, after the crown prosecution service dropped charges of attempted rape and coercive behaviour against him. here's ben croucher. we want glazers out, say we want glazers out! it's a new season, but at manchester united, the owners remain the same. with the protracted sale of the club by the glazer family still not resolved before a ball was even kicked, supporters found their voice. but are the club listening? 18 years of dirt, and we've had enough. -- 18 —— 18 years of debt. we want them gone. it'sjust such a big club, and it's unsettling. they don't care about the club, they care about money. - they don't care about us. that's not the only issue. earlier this year, charges against forward mason greenwood including attempted rape and assault were dropped. the club has delayed a decision on whether or not to reintegrate him back into the squad, wanting to consult key stakeholders including members of the women's team. it has divided the fan base. i don't really care about the legal situation. i don't care about contracts, this is about ethics, morality. it's about the fact that if you want to play for the greatest club in the world, you have to set a high standard. we hope there is consideration of the views and experiences of women who are affected by issues around domestic violence and sexual assault to be part of the conversations and decisions that are made by the club about greenwood's return. if he wasn't as good - a player as he was, he'd be straight out of the door. despite fans* unease at the situation off the field, there are hopes that on it, they can build on their third—place finish in the premier league last season. expectation that was high against wolves, but after the likes of manchester city, arsenal and newcastle all won at the weekend, the pressure was too. the players did little to ease the tension, perhaps fortunate that wolves were toothless in front of goal. but with 1a minutes to go, the deadlock was broken, centre half raphael varane doing what the strikers couldn't. not a perfect performance, but it gives those fans something to cheer about. ben croucher, bbc news. the story now of a lucky escape for a 13—year—old boy who we begin with the news that thousands of police officers serving in northern ireland were dreading, that details of their surnames and places of work have fallen into the hands of dissident republican groups who do not support the peace process. the chief constable of the police service of northern ireland confirmed this today after last week's data breach, in which details on more than 10,000 employees was mistakenly released online. a document posted on a wall in largely catholic west belfast, close to the sinn fein office, allegedly shows some of the information that was uploaded. sarah girvin has the full story. when news of the psni data breach broke six days ago, the force's chief constable said he was aware of claims from dissident republican paramilitaries that they had access to it. today he confirmed the information was in their hands. we are now confident that the workforce data set is in the hands of dissident republicans and it is therefore our planning assumption that they will use this list to generate fear and uncertainty as well as intimidating or targeting officers and staff. the reason why this is so concerning for thousands of people is that every police officer in northern ireland is a target for violent dissident republican paramilitaries who are against the peace process. the last attack was just a few months ago, when senior detective john caldwell was shot and seriously injured. after that, the terror threat level in northern ireland was raised to severe. that is the highest in the uk. and it is in that climate that police officers here work every day. speaking anonymously to the bbc, this psni support worker described the impact of the data leak on his life. it has brought on a level of panic that hasn't been around for a lot of years. it has given my partner issues as well. she is concerned and is extremely panicked about me going to work. earlier today, sinn fein said extracts of the leaked information were posted on a wall outside a party office in belfast before being removed by staff. their policing spokesperson said he believes dissident republicans were behind that action in a bid to prove they have the information. police are investigating those claims. the police rightly said that there was a claim that they had this information. i think this is, whoever is involved in this, it is their motive to say, actually, we do have this, and to up the ante in terms of trying to intimidate police officers and their staff. we now know that half of northern ireland's police officers have inquired through the police federation that represents rank—and—file officers about potential damages. with more than 10,000 people involved, a potential compensation bill could run into tens of millions of pounds. today, the federation urged all police officers and staff to exercise maximum vigilance. and that vigilance will be at the forefront of thousands of mines tonight. we have been speaking to police officers and psni staff over the last few days and as you can imagine, their chief concern is their safety and security and that of their families. their safety and security and that of theirfamilies. it their safety and security and that of their families. it was always the fear that this leaked information would make its way to the wrong people. now with confirmation that it is in the hands of violent dissident republicans, that fear has been realised. ~ , potentially, this is all about olitics? , , politics? well, clive, people may be a little suspicious _ politics? well, clive, people may be a little suspicious that _ politics? well, clive, people may be a little suspicious that a _ a little suspicious that a government which is being heavily scrutinised over nhs performance in england and on waiting lists building up is somehow involved in a decision to cut back on cancer waiting time targets. but nhs leaders are clear that they came up with this plan last year, put it out to consultation with cancer experts, clinical experts and doctors, and this is the result of their work. ministers have been keen to say that they have let the experts get on with it and as we understand tonight, the government has given its blessing to this all going ahead, possibly within a couple of days, with an announcement coming up. in some ways, there is a logic to this, that you get these nine targets and focus then write down on something which people will find more easy to understand, 28 days for somebody to find out if they have cancer or not and then two other targets on treatment. but the key thing is, will they actually be hit? and if they are not, then we'll confidence in the whole thing amongst patients deteriorate at a time of real pressure on the system? hugh pym there. no 10 says the home office is still trying to clarify exactly when officials knew there were health issues concerning the barge being used to house migrants moored in dorset. there are growing questions about who was responsible for moving asylum seekers onto the vessel, the bibby stockholm, before it was given the all—clear for the legionella bacteria which was later discovered in the water supply. here's dan johnson. the bibby stockholm is here to show there's nothing luxurious about our asylum system. but after something nasty turned up deep in its plumbing, the water safety people are now the only ones going abroad. the water safety people are now the only ones going aboard. so one week after the first asylum seekers moved in, all 39 are now back in hotels. this is one of them, here originally fearing religious persecution. when they said that you have to go on the barge, i refused on the first day... and now worried about water poisoning. it was a strange experience, as people said it was safe and then there was bacteria. yeah, it was kind of off. but what can i say, because i have to go with the others. last monday, test results from late july came back showing bacteria. the following day, council officials met the contractor running the vessel. on wednesday, the uk health security agency was notified. on thursday, there was an incident management meeting. and on friday, the decision was taken to move everyone out. people were moved off the barge as soon as ministers were aware. people have had health assessments, there's been no concerns in terms of any of the people that have been on the barge. this was intended to be a big, bold demonstration of the government getting tough, tackling immigration, stopping the small boats, and yet it's starting to illustrate just how complicated those issues can be and how difficult it is finding realistic, workable solutions. itjust seems a mess. everything they do just seems to end like this, where they're stuck by some legislation. if you're going to put people on there that are vulnerable in the first place, you would have checked that everything was safe. do you feel you're being treated fairly? not so much, because at the start it was said that the barge is for the illegal people who are coming by small boats, but i came here by plane. this has been controversial. it's been delayed time and again. ministers had already guaranteed its safety after numerous concerns, but the asylum seekers have now been told they will be moving back here at some point. danjohnson, bbc news, portland. officials in hawaii say they're expecting a significant rise in the number of dead, following wildfires in which at least 96 people are now known to have died. search teams are checking through the rubble of burnt—out buildings and vehicles, with hundreds of people still unaccounted for. many were forced to run into the sea to escape the flames. the fires began last tuesday, hitting four major areas on the island of maui, including the historic town of lahaina, much of which has been destroyed. in what's been an unusually dry season, the flames were fanned by winds from hurricane dora, travelling across the pacific. some are questioning the speed of the emergency response, and the timeliness of fire warnings, asjohn sudworth reports from maui. videos of the disaster continue to emerge. this one shows lahaina's residents huddled in the water — the only place of refuge they could find — as the smoke and ashes from their burning town rained down upon them. hundreds are still listed as missing. the authorities say temperatures here reached 1000 degrees. the task of both finding and identifying the bodies will take time, according to hawaii's governor, himself a trained doctor, speaking to us media. they will find ten to 20 people per day, probably, until they finish. and it is probably going to take ten days. it is impossible to guess, really. the fire was so perilous, it took lives — it didn't leave survivors. some residents have been allowed to return to the charred remains of their homes. there is our bed. but beyond the physical destruction, there is a far deeper concern for those who survived — the fate of neighbours yet unaccounted for. i'm rattling her door, like, come out, but she has locked, so i can't answer it and bring her out because she's got locked. so i'm coughing at that point, i can't talk and now i can't see so i just stumble my way out. but, you know, i'm getting burned by embers. so i'm, like, if she's in there, you know, what are her chances to survive that? we are out of the water now. those who captured footage like this on the night now hope it will do more than just shock and that these images might somehow help. hi, i'm noah, i'm the person you just saw in the video. just showing your support or donating to one of the many charities... accommodation is in short supply, both for emergency workers and the thousands made homeless. tourists are being asked to remain unaccounted for with survivors from lahaina posting on social media desperate for news of loved ones. many of the dead have not yet been formally identified, such was the intensity of this fire that the authorities are having to use dental records. there is also a sense of anger, questions over whether more could have been done to warn residents of the impending disaster as well as about the adequacy of the government response to it. we are now beginning to see signs of a federal activity, the national guard, for example, manning the checkpoint outside this refuge centre and hotel rooms being brought up in large numbers to house some of the homeless. but almost a week on there is a sense that we are only now beginning to get a true picture of the challenge that lies ahead. g ., ., ~ fresh charges laid against donald trump very soon and that will of course be the fourth criminal indictment against the former president. there was briefly a great flurry of excitement here a few hours ago and it looked like the charges appeared on the court's website but it turned out that really was a fake news so we don't know exactly what he is likely to be accused but it will relate to election fraud and attempts to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election here in the state of georgia. because this is where mr trump and his allies concentrated a huge amount of their efforts after the election, claiming falsely that hundreds of thousands of fake ballots had been counted in joe thousands of fake ballots had been counted injoe biden*s faber and this is where donald trump phoned the senior election official and asked him to find just enough votes to tip the state in his favour. and you remember it was actually less than a fortnight ago that donald trump appeared in court in washington on totally separate charges of election fraud, and he is of course still facing prosecution in florida over retention of classified documents, and in new york over at hush money payments. so there are a lot of court cases are stacking up for him but he is as defiant as ever and said on social media today that he did not tamper with the election results here in georgia, the police describe as a homophobic attack outside a south london pub. the men, in their twenties and thirties, were attacked outside the two brewers in clapham high street on sunday night. robin brantjoins me from clapham. robin, what more do we know? i have been watching a trickle of people going into the two brewers tonight, some being searched as they go in and there was heightened security presence at the door and a heightened police presence around as well. it is nowhere near as busy as it was 2a hours ago when the attack happened. those two men were standing outside when they were approached by a man in a mask with a knife, they were stabbed and police believe they were targeted in what they describe as a homophobic attack. what the metropolitan police is doing tonight is two things, firstly trying to find a man and to prevent a potential repeat attack but secondly, and of equal importance, is trying to reassure people living here, particular members of the gay community and more broadly the lgbtq+ community, that they are taking this very seriously. the london met said it can't describe it as appalling, saying the police are having a robust investigation —— the london mayor sadiq khan. you go get a sense there is a prevalence of violent attacks like this around it and the statistics for london suggest homophobic attacks dipped last year but nonetheless i understand tonight the met police are considering releasing some images from cctv of the man who did this with the primary aim being to find him and prevent any potential repeat of what they regard as a targeted violent attack. ., , ., ~ , ., university strikes are set to continue in september after negotiations with employers broke down. the university and college union has announced there will be railway, when trains are much heavier, they're faster, and they can't stop or swerve out of the way. well, this is a location where network rail has seen some of these incidents occur, and it says one of the reasons behind it may be people's desire for interesting videos and photos to post on social media, but it says that this sort of behaviour comes with huge risks. gasping meanwhile, people moises caicedo has become the most expensive signing in british football history. he's moving from brighton to chelsea for a cool £115 million. it follows a long line of transfer records. in 1979, trevor francis became the first ever million pound footballer. alan shearer cost £15 million in 1996. and the £100 million barrier was broken in 2021, whenjack grealish moved from aston villa to man city. caicedo becomes the new record holder, atjust 21 years old. and the french club paris st—germain has agreed a deal to sell the brazilian forward neymar to the saudi pro league side al—hilal. the fee is around £77 million, subject to a medical assessment. manchester united began their premier league campaign this evening, at home to wolverhampton wanderers. the score, 1—0. before kick—off, fans renewed their calls for the club owners to step down over high levels of debt at united, and there were protests that the striker mason greenwood should never be allowed to play for the club again, after the crown prosecution service dropped charges of attempted rape and coercive behaviour against him. here's ben croucher. we want glazers out, say we want glazers out! it's a new season, but at manchester united, the owners remain the same. with the protracted sale of the club by the glazer family still not resolved before a ball was even kicked, supporters found their voice. but are the club listening? 18 years of dirt, and we've had enough. -- 18 —— 18 years of debt. we want them gone. it'sjust such a big club, and it's unsettling. they don't care about the club, they care about money. - they don't care about us. that's not the only issue. earlier this year, charges against forward mason greenwood including attempted rape and assault were dropped. the club has delayed a decision on whether or not to reintegrate him back into the squad, wanting to consult key stakeholders including members of the women's team. it has divided the fan base. i don't really care about the legal situation. i don't care about contracts, this is about ethics, morality. it's about the fact that if you want to play for the greatest club in the world, you have to set a high standard. we hope there is consideration of the views and experiences of women who are affected by issues around domestic violence and sexual assault to be part of the conversations and decisions that are made by the club about greenwood's return. if he wasn't as good - a player as he was, he'd be straight out of the door. despite fans* unease at the situation off the field, there are hopes that on it, they can build on their third—place finish in the premier league last season. expectation that was high against wolves, but after the likes of manchester city, arsenal and newcastle all won at the weekend, the pressure was too. the players did little to ease the tension, perhaps fortunate that wolves were toothless in front of goal. but with 1a minutes to go, the deadlock was broken, centre half raphael varane doing what the strikers couldn't. not a perfect performance, but it gives those fans something to cheer about. ben croucher, bbc news. the story now of a lucky escape for a 13—year—old boy who
