wildfires are still burning and firefighters are working to bring them under control. these pictures are from the us national guard. we also know that hawaiians are donating supplies — to be sent to the worst affected areas. locals on the island of maui say much more help is needed though. hawaii's governor gave this update earlier. it is a harrowing sight in maui. when those providers, the police in this division, do come across scenes in houses or businesses, it's very difficult for them because they know ultimately they'll be sharing with our people that there have been more fatalities. i do expect the numbers to rise. questions are being asked now about whether hawaii's early warning system worked properly. the state's attorney general is conducting a "comprehensive review" of what happened. our correspondent, sophie long, sent this report — from maui. the fire left more than a city devastated, and charred black buildings behind. existential questions hover above the emptiness. how can you rebuild from this? what will exist here in the future? a now churchless congregation gathers at a coffee shop to share their pain. one of the police officers sent me pictures. it used to be my house. i wept, but weeping is not a lack of faith. thank god that he gave us tears. # amazing grace...# there are so many questions that remain without answers. why did one survive to sit in a makeshift church when their neighbour didn't? what will become of their community so crippled by a loss that's still being counted? i don't think it will ever be the same. i hope it will be better. that's my prayer. and i believe that, i think one day, you know, it can be an even better lahaina than it was hopefully, that is what i hope at least. how do they explain to those too young to understand what their parents can't comprehend? children live in the moment most when they're young. i so you may have to explain it more than once with them. _ but all you can do isjust be straightforward, tell them i the fire took the house. the terrible thing is that, it's going to be hard - because the next fire, i you know, the next time they hear fire, that fear is going to come back. i we actually had one lady beating on our window, "save me, save me." these people may have lost their homes but they have not lost their hope. we are going to build ourselves up, shake ourselves up, keep going forward, we are not broken. that place might be for now but it won't stay that way. and even the elderly with other places they could go will stay and rebuild. family on the mainland are trying to get me to move back, - and my son told my daughter, he said, "you don't get it. - dad is going to die there. i because that's his home." it's our home. but we'll come back. we'll survive, we'll get through this. . they'll tell their children that there has been mass death and destruction, but out of it came heroes and hope. sophie long, bbc news, mao e. ——maui. a short while ago, cbs news correspondent gave us this update on the search for victims — in the worst affected areas. today, officials are urging everyone who's missing a loved one to please go out and get a dna test to help them better identify the remains that they are uncovering. and the police chief says that they are meticulously searching the area. they are working on the recovery effort and going as quickly as possible. but they're hoping to do so with respect and what they call aloha, right to respect the dead. and, of course, this is going to take quite some time. only 3% of the area has been searched and 96 bodies have been found. but of those, only two have been positively identified. as we talk to you, jessica, we can see pictures of the devastation and so many people are now without their homes. what kind of help is available for all of those many, many people who have been affected by the fires? so donations, lucy, are pouring in, which is great. but of course the challenge is making sure that they get to those who need them. right. so they are urging tourists to postpone any trips here to maui because so many people have lost their homes and they are trying to get people into a safe space or into safe shelter. so we have some 500 hotel rooms and airbnbs which are now going to those in need. now, earlier we have been speaking with people who say that they know someone or they have been directly impacted by this fire in some way. there's just a heaviness here on the island. but the love is so incredibly strong that we spoke with someone who is staying at a shelter and he said that the donations just keep coming in, that they keep offering them food and whatever they possibly need to help them cope with all of this. and jessica, we keep seeing pictures and hearing about what has happened in lahaina, but what about on other parts of the island and in the other islands in the chain, too? are there still fires? yes, there are actually there are fires that continue to pop up. so right now it is so arid. and we were having these storms and hurricane dora, which was right off the coast. so the fires were just igniting one after the other. and then once they would put a fire out, another hot spot would flare up. so the firefighters would literally go from one location to the next location. they also have one of the best alarm systems really around the world on this island chain with some 500 different beacons. and for whatever reason. and we are thinking that it is because these fires just flared up so quickly. residents here in maui specifically did not hear any of the alarms. and that's why you're seeing that devastation. and so many of the victims that i'm hoping, lucy, that you've seen this video where people are literally running out into the water. we spoke with someone today who had been out in the water, in the ocean for five hours just trying to wait this out because they had nowhere else to go. we are going to take you live to something we are watching closely in the us because we are watching this court, and it is a court in georgia because what we are expecting is another probable indictment of the former president donald trump by a grand jury. this is fulton county in georgia. what you are seeing is the courthouse where the indictment would be handed down to prosecutors. we are keeping a close eye on what will happen there because we have three previous indictments that donald trump is facing their march trial in manhattan of a business fraud charges and the hush money paid to an adult film actress, he is facing federal charges from two probes in florida into his mishandling of classified documents and the one more recently we have seenin and the one more recently we have seen in washington of his efforts to subvert the 2020 election. remember he has pleaded not guilty on all of those cases so far. we are seeing here today in georgia is a probe into the present*s bid to overturn his 2020 election loss in georgia. it was a vital swing state and we are expecting the atlanta area prosecutor fanny willis to seek charges against more than a dozen people, and donald trump is expected to be among them. we are keeping a close eye on the courthouse for that reason. this could be the fourth indictment of the former president donald trump. to the political crisis in west africa now. the military group that seized power in niger last month says it plans to prosecute the ousted president mohamed bazoum — for high treason — and undermining the security of the country. it's nearly three weeks since president bazoum's democratically elected government was toppled. in a statement — an army spokesman said the authorities had been gathering evidence against him — and — provided to support this claim is. this comes a few days after the military appointed minister had said general kayani had gone about the negotiations and the sanctions imposed against them without giving them a listening ear. but he was open to negotiations and diplomatic talks with the regional bloc, also general general kayani hinted that the coup was very intentional and it was done to stave off an imminent threat to the people of niger and its neighbours. that as well, no evidence was provided to support this claim of an imminent threat but we would wait to see as events unfold echo us meeting that is happening monday to help to quell the political crisis. also the african union's peace and security council meeting monday to also look for new interventions for the crisis in niger. we willjust wait to see how all those meetings will unfold and the resolutions that would come from this. if we rememberjust last week echo us said it was having a military intervention. it had activated and deployed military intervention on niger, should all political and diplomatic options fail at the table. but this new action by the militaryjunta in niger could also impede whatever these negotiations may have been, or these negotiations may have been, or the result that they would have provided. —— ecowas. in nigerwe are hearing reports of over 50 people arrested sunday afternoon. these were anti—coup protesters who were protesting for the reinstatement and release of president mohamed bazoum who is still being held by the militaryjunta in the presidential palace since he was ousted last month. the militaryjunta had earlier banned all forms of protest but had encouraged, permissions were given to those who were pro—coup supporters in the different rallies and protests we have seen that have happened in the last couple of days and weeks since the coup happened. these 5a people are currently being held and we have not received any further news on what the charges would be. but we willjust wait further news on what the charges would be. but we will just wait to see how events unfold in niger. here, two—thirds of health service cancer waiting—time targets are expected to be scrapped in england — including the two—week wait from an urgent gp referral to see a consultant for breast cancer patients. the nhs says the move will simplify the system. the targets have been routinely missed in recent years — as dominic hughes reports. nhs england says it wants to simplify and update cancer waiting time standards following the advice of expert doctors. the nine standards that exist at the moment are said to be confusing for patients and staff. a consultation exercise on scrapping some of them was started last year. the outcome is set to be published in the next few days but it will need to be approved by ministers. what we have is a consultation at the moment with leading clinical figures in the cancer world and with the cancer charities asking whether the checks we've got are driving the right outcomes in terms of cancer survival or whether there are better ways of measuring those. so, this is something led by clinicians working in cancer, it's not something being imposed by the government. three targets would be maintained — diagnosis of cancer within 28 days of referral. the start of treatment within two months from an urgent referral. and treatment starting one month after a decision to treat. but other targets, for example, a two—week wait from an urgent gp referral to see a consultant, including for breast cancer patients, will be dropped. nhs england says the changes would remove the need for unnecessary outpatient appointments in order to meet waiting time rules allow more patients to get a faster diagnosis. but the reality is that most cancer targets have been missed for some time, and labour believes that's what's behind this change. and under the last labour government we had targets, we hit those targets, we didn't walk away when the going got tough. with this government what we've got is targets that they've repeatedly failed to hit, and now what they're doing is moving the goalposts. recent figures show that just 59% of cancer patients in england waited less than two months for their first treatment to start after being referred by their gp, well below the target of 85%. everyone wants simpler targets, that will be easier for patients to understand. but the problem is, we're in the worst consequences of my lifetime and simply changing targets won't cure patients, we need to treat them faster and quicker. there is some support for the idea of simplifying the targets for cancer treatment if it helps improve the focus on diagnosing and treating patients faster. but cancer charities say too many targets is not the reason that patients are facing longer waits, that's down to a shortage of trained staff and resources. dominic hughes, bbc news. around the world and across the uk, this is bbc argentine right wing populist javier milei has shocked his country's political establishment, coming first in presidential primary elections. the decisive win prompted jubilation among his supporters. mr millei won more than 30% of the vote, promising to put an end to what he's called a "parasitic political class" that has "sunk argentina". the 52—year—old economist often appeared in campaign rallies singing rock songs. matias zibell garcia — of bbc mundo — outlined some of the factors behind mr milei's triumph. and this victory is an economic situation that is really, really serious with an inflation level over 100% annually. and his idea that we can dollarise the economy, that we can adopt the american currency as the official currency of our country. tell us a bit more about him. he started as a journalist, economics journalist, really colourful, with some extremes ideas, and he started to draw attention because the tv loves him and he started to got more airtime. and suddenly he was so popular that he decided to jump from the tv studio to the national arena. he was elected member of the congress, and now he has serious chances to become president. and he's an admirer, too, of president, former president trump, also compared to jair bolsonaro. what are some of his sort of social policies? ok, the first most important proposal is to have the largest section of the economy. is to have dollarisation of the economy. he wants to close the central bank at the same time, and he wants to privatise all the state companies. so it's ultra ultraliberal. but at the same time, he has some social ideas, like going against the abortion law or the union of the same—sex marriages that are not so liberal. 70% of people showed up to vote. how much of this is really seen as a bit of a dress rehearsal to the actual presidential election, which will take place in october? he will need more quantity of votes to avoid a second round. if he wants to win in the first round 22nd october he needs at least another 10%, 15% of votes to help him because if he goes to the second round, he will face this political cast to these political traditional parties that he's so complaining about that willjoin against him. so everything we have to decide in that 22 of october. the uk health secretary says the government took instant action to move asylum seekers from the bibby stockholm barge after legionella bacteria was found last week. steve barclay was questioned over why people were moved in when officials knew tests were being conducted. he told the bbc no—one was harmed. the government plans to house up to 500 people on the vessel moored in portland port while they wait for the outcome of their asylum applications. the uk health security agency did not recommend evacuation until thursday night. well, earlier steve barclay said people were moved off the barge as soon as the government was made aware of the situation. it can be dangerous and that is why as a precautionary measure people were moved off the barge as soon as ministers were aware. people have had health assessments, there has been no concerns in terms of any of the people that have been on the barge. checks are being followed up on that, but the steps were taken as a precaution and it is right that we have the cheques, it is right we have the cheques, it is right we have them at the end ofjuly and i know ministers at the home office were notified on thursday evening and took precautionary measures as a result. but the opposition labour party has criticised the government's asylum policy. everybody has got to face up to the fact that _ everybody has got to face up to the fact that the government has broken the asylum system and i don't want to use _ the asylum system and i are going to inherit a very bad situation, just as we are on the economy— bad situation, just as we are on the economy and on health, but fundamentally we can't get through this buying more barges, we of distributing propaganda and recruitment material about the wagner mercenary army. they've been charged with espionage. thousands of mercenaries from wagner, led by yevgeny prigozhin, have been across the border from poland in belarus. wagner carried out a failed mutiny in russia injune. i spoke to our correspondent in warsaw, adam easton. i asked him what the polish authorities are saying about these arrests. the details the polish security service have released say these two men were detained on friday last week after they put up, they pasted about 300 leaflets in the polish cities in crack of in the south of the country and in the capital warsaw. this was part of about 3000 materials the polish services are saying our propaganda materials for the wagner mercenary group. the leaflets that they pasted in the public places in warsaw and krakow contained a link to a recruitment site for the group, and the polish security forces say that the men had been planning to leave poland on the day after, on the saturday, but they were detained on the friday, and that they had also carried out similar activities already in berlin and in paris. they said that they were expecting to be paid just under $us5,000 from the russian secret services for carrying out this activity. pakistan's new interim prime minister has been sworn into office. anwaar—ul—haq kakar is a little—known senator from balochistan who was chosen as caretaker prime minister after the term of shehbaz sharif*s government expired on thursday. mr kakar will oversee the next general election due before november. pakistan's parliament was dissolved last week ahead of the election, expected sometime before november. but there are concerns that this timetable may slip after the recent announcement that electoral boundaries had to be redrawn to reflect the latest census data. the french football champions, paris saint—germain, have agreed to sell their star brazilian forward, neymar, to the saudi club, al—hilal. the fee's understood to be about a $100 million. the transfer is subject to the 31—year—old completing a medical and all the necessary paperwork. neymar, joined psg from barcelona in catania have been halted after an eruption from nearby mount etna, the most active volcano in europe. the volcano burst into action on sunday night, firing lava and ash high over the mediterranean island. the lava flow subsided before dawn, but ash was still coming from one of the craters. to give you an idea of the disruption this is causing, the airport was scheduled to be the sixth busiest in italy today, with 235 flights scheduled to depart and arrive. but some of those flights might yet make it, as the airport is currently scheduled to reopen at eight tonight local time. for some of us it has been a soggy start to the new working week with low pressure in charge of our weather and this frontal system which has become quite slow moving across parts of northern england and north wales generating some very heavy bursts of rain.— heavy bursts of rain. through the rest of the _ heavy bursts of rain. through the rest of the day _ heavy bursts of rain. through the rest of the day rest of the day it is north wales but perhaps more especially northern england and into the far south of scotland where we will see the wettest of the weather. there could well be enough rain to cause localised transport disruption, may be a bit of flooding. quite windy across southern and eastern parts. sunshine and showers away from our main rain bands and temperatures generally in the low to mid 20s. as we head through tonight that rain will linger for a we head through tonight that rain will lingerfor a time we head through tonight that rain will linger for a time across parts of eastern scotland and north—east england. i think much of it will pull away by the end of the night. 0ne pull away by the end of the night. one or two showers out west but the majority will be dry and clear, and not a cold night, 11—15. tomorrow the last vestiges of that rain will tend to clear from eastern scotland and north—east england and then it is a sunshine and showers day. some of the showers could be on the heavy side but there will be some decent dry gaps in between and some spells of sunshine. temperature wise we are looking at 90 degrees in aberdeen, 23 in norwich and in london. as we move out of tuesday and into wednesday we start to see this quite weak area of high pressure building its way in. that will settle things down to some extent. underneath that high we could see some dense fog patches to start, particularly around western parts of england, wales and northern ireland. some of that fog taking a while to clear but it should be quite readily through the morning. then some sunny spells, a chance of one or two showers, but signs of something perhaps a bit warmer developing down towards the south—east. it looks like we will see some warmer weather later in the week. it is going to be quite a warm week. it is going to be quite a warm week generally across much of continental europe, and as we move through on into the start of friday we will start to develop a south easterly breeze, bringing some of that warmer air our way. but just how warm it gets depends on the progress of this frontal system swinging in from the atlantic because that is going to bring cloud and some heavy rain northwards and eastwards. before that arrives it looks like temperatures will, for some, get up into the middle 20 celsius but some very wet weather swinging its way eastward through friday and into the start of the weekend. russia's rouble slumps to a 16—month low against the dollar, as the economy reels from western sanctions. and gas workers in australia will vote on wildfires are still burning and firefighters are working to bring them under control. these pictures are from the us national guard. we also know that hawaiians are donating supplies — to be sent to survive to sit in a makeshift church when their neighbour didn't? what will become of their community so crippled by a loss that's still being counted? i don't think it will ever be the same. i hope too young to understand what their parents can't comprehend? children live in the moment most when they're young. i so you may have to explain it more than once with them. ——maui. a short while ago, cbs news correspondent gave us this update on the search for victims — in the worst affected areas. today, officials are urging everyone who's missing a loved one to please go out and get a dna test to help them better identify the remains that they are uncovering. and the police chief says that they are meticulously searching the area. they are working on the recovery effort and going as quickly as possible. but they're hoping to do so with respect and what they call aloha, right to respect the dead. and, of course, this is going to take quite some time. only 3% of the area has been searched and 96 bodies have been found. but of those, only two have been positively identified. as we talk to you, jessica, we can see pictures of the devastation and so many people are now without their homes. what kind of help is available for all of those many, many people who have been affected by the fires? so donations, lucy, are pouring in, which is great. but of course the challenge is making sure that they get to those who need them. right. so they are urging tourists to postpone any trips here to maui because so many people have lost their homes and they are trying to get people into a safe space or into safe shelter. so we have some 500 hotel rooms and airbnbs which are now going to those in need. now, earlier we have been speaking with people who say that they know someone or they have been directly impacted by this fire in some way. there's just a heaviness here on the island. but the love is so incredibly strong that we spoke with someone who is staying at a shelter and he said that the donations just keep coming in, that they keep offering them food and whatever they possibly need to help them cope with all of this. and jessica, we keep seeing pictures and hearing about what has happened in lahaina, but what about on other parts of the island and in the other islands in the chain, too? are there still fires? yes, there are actually there are fires that continue to pop up. so right now it is so arid. and we were having these storms and hurricane dora, which was right off the coast. so the fires were just igniting one after the other. and then once they would put a fire out, another hot spot would flare up. so the firefighters would literally go from one location to the next location. they also have one of the best alarm systems really around the world on this island chain with some 500 different beacons. and for whatever reason. and we are thinking that it is because these fires just flared up so quickly. residents here in maui specifically did not hear any of the alarms. and that's why you're seeing that devastation. and so many of the victims that i'm hoping, lucy, that you've seen this video where people are literally running out into the water. we spoke with someone today who had been out in the water, in the ocean for five hours just trying to wait this out because they had nowhere else to go. we are going to take you live to something we are watching closely in the us because we are watching this court, and it is a court in georgia because what we are expecting is another probable indictment of the former president donald trump by a grand jury. this is fulton county in georgia. what you are seeing is the courthouse where the indictment would be handed down to prosecutors. we are keeping a close eye on what will happen there because we have three previous indictments that donald trump is facing their march trial in manhattan of a business fraud charges and the hush money paid to an adult film actress, he is facing federal charges from two probes in florida into his mishandling of classified documents and the one more recently we have seenin and the one more recently we have seen in washington of his efforts to subvert the 2020 election. remember he has pleaded not guilty on all of those cases so far. we are seeing here today in georgia is a probe into the present*s bid to overturn his 2020 election loss in georgia. it was a vital swing state and we are expecting the atlanta area prosecutor fanny willis to seek charges against more than a dozen people, and donald trump is expected to be among them. we are keeping a close eye on the courthouse for that reason. this could be the fourth indictment of the former president donald trump. to the political crisis in west provided to support this claim is. this comes a few days after the military appointed minister had said general kayani had gone about the negotiations and the sanctions imposed against them without giving them a listening ear. but he was open to negotiations and diplomatic talks with the regional bloc, also general general kayani hinted that the coup was very intentional and it was done to stave off an imminent threat to the people of niger and its neighbours. that as well, no evidence was provided to support this claim of an imminent threat but we would wait to see as events unfold echo us meeting that is happening monday to help to quell the political crisis. also the african union's peace and security council meeting monday to also look for new interventions for the crisis in niger. we willjust wait to see how all those meetings will unfold and the resolutions that would come from this. if we rememberjust last week echo us said it was having a military intervention. it had activated and deployed military intervention on niger, should all political and diplomatic options fail at the table. but this new action by the militaryjunta in niger could also impede whatever these negotiations may have been, or these negotiations may have been, or the result that they would have provided. —— ecowas. in nigerwe are hearing reports of over 50 people arrested sunday afternoon. these were anti—coup protesters who were protesting for the reinstatement and release of president mohamed bazoum who is still being held by the militaryjunta in the presidential palace since he was ousted last month. the militaryjunta had earlier banned all forms of protest but had encouraged, permissions were given to those who were pro—coup supporters in the different rallies and protests we have seen that have happened in the last couple of days and weeks since the coup happened. these 5a people are currently being held and we have not received any further news on what the charges would be. but we willjust wait further news on what the charges would be. but we will just wait to see how events unfold in niger. here, two—thirds of health service cancer waiting—time targets are expected to be scrapped in england — including the two—week wait from an urgent gp referral to see a consultant for breast cancer patients. the nhs says the move will simplify the system. the targets have been routinely missed in recent years — as dominic hughes reports. nhs england says it wants to simplify and update cancer waiting time standards following the advice of expert doctors. the nine standards that exist at the moment are said to be confusing for patients and staff. a consultation exercise on scrapping some of them was started last year. the outcome is set to be published in the next few days but it will need to be approved by ministers. what we have is a consultation at the moment with leading clinical figures in the cancer world and with the cancer charities asking whether the checks we've got are driving the right outcomes in terms of cancer survival or whether there are better ways of measuring those. so, this is something led by clinicians working in cancer, it's not something being imposed by the government. three targets would be maintained — diagnosis of cancer within 28 days of referral. the start of treatment within two months from an urgent referral. and treatment starting one month after a decision to treat. but other targets, for example, a two—week wait from an urgent gp referral to see a consultant, including for breast cancer patients, will be dropped. nhs england says the changes would remove the need for unnecessary outpatient appointments in order to meet waiting time rules allow more patients to get a faster diagnosis. but the reality is that most cancer targets have been missed for some time, and labour believes that's what's behind this change. and under the last labour government we had targets, we hit those targets, we didn't walk away when the going got tough. with this government what we've got is targets that they've repeatedly failed to hit, and now what they're doing is moving the goalposts. recent figures show that just 59% of cancer patients in england waited less than two months for their first treatment to start after being referred by their gp, well below the target of 85%. everyone wants simpler targets, that will be easier for patients to understand. but the problem is, we're in the worst consequences of my lifetime and simply changing targets won't cure patients, we need to treat them faster and quicker. there is some support for the idea of simplifying the targets for cancer treatment if it helps improve the focus on diagnosing and treating patients faster. but cancer charities say too many targets is not the reason that patients are facing longer waits, that's down to a shortage of trained staff and resources. dominic hughes, bbc news. around the world and across the uk, this is bbc argentine right wing populist javier milei has shocked his country's political establishment, coming first in presidential primary elections. the decisive win prompted jubilation among his supporters. mr millei won more than 30% of the vote, promising to put an end to what he's called a "parasitic political class" that has "sunk argentina". the 52—year—old economist often appeared in campaign rallies singing rock songs. matias zibell garcia — of bbc mundo — outlined some of the factors behind mr milei's triumph. and this victory is an economic situation that is really, really serious with an inflation level over 100% annually. and his idea that we can dollarise the economy, that we can adopt the american currency as the official currency of our country. tell us a bit more about him. he started as a journalist, economics journalist, really colourful, with some extremes ideas, and he started to draw attention because the tv loves him and he started to got more airtime. and suddenly he was so popular that he decided to jump from the tv studio to the national arena. he was elected member of the congress, and now he has serious chances to become president. and he's an admirer, too, of president, former president trump, also compared to jair bolsonaro. what are some of his sort of social policies? ok, the first most important proposal is to have the largest section of the economy. is to have dollarisation of the economy. he wants to close the central bank at the same time, and he wants to privatise all the state companies. so it's ultra ultraliberal. but at the same time, he has some social ideas, like going against the abortion law or the union of the same—sex marriages that are not so liberal. 70% of people showed up to vote. how much of this is really seen as a bit of a dress rehearsal to the actual presidential election, which will take place in october? he will need more quantity of votes to avoid a second round. if he wants to win in the first round 22nd october he needs at least another 10%, 15% of votes to help him because if he goes to the second round, he will face this political cast to these political traditional parties that he's so complaining about that willjoin against him. so everything we have to decide in that 22 of october. the uk health secretary says the government took instant action to move asylum seekers from the bibby stockholm barge after legionella bacteria was found last week. steve barclay was questioned over why people were moved in when officials knew tests were being conducted. he told the bbc no—one was harmed. the government plans to house up to 500 people on the vessel moored in portland port while they wait for the outcome of their asylum applications. the uk health security agency did not recommend evacuation until thursday night. well, earlier steve barclay said people were moved off the barge as soon as the government was made aware of the situation. it can be dangerous and that is why as a precautionary measure people were moved off the barge as soon as ministers were aware. people have had health assessments, there has been no concerns in terms of any of the people that have been on the barge. checks are being followed up on that, but the steps were taken as a precaution and it is right that we have the cheques, it is right we have the cheques, it is right we have them at the end rest of the day it is north wales but perhaps more especially northern england and into the far south of scotland where we will see the wettest of the weather. there could well be enough rain to cause localised transport disruption, may be a bit of flooding. quite windy across southern and eastern parts. sunshine and showers away from our main rain bands and temperatures generally in the low to mid 20s. as we head through tonight that rain will linger for a we head through tonight that rain will lingerfor a time we head through tonight that rain will linger for a time across parts of eastern and not a cold night, 11—15. tomorrow the last vestiges of that rain will tend to clear from eastern scotland and north—east england and then it is a sunshine and showers day. some of the showers could be on the heavy side but there will be some decent dry gaps in between and some spells of sunshine. temperature wise we are looking at 90 degrees in aberdeen, 23 in norwich and in london. as we move out of tuesday and into wednesday we start to see this quite weak area of high pressure building its way in. that will settle things down to some extent. underneath that high we could see some dense fog patches to start, particularly around western parts of england, wales and northern ireland. some of that fog taking a while to clear but it should be quite readily through the morning. then some sunny spells, a chance of one or two showers, but signs of something perhaps a bit warmer developing down towards the south—east. it looks like we will see some warmer weather later in the week. it is going to be quite a warm week. it is going to be quite a warm week generally across much of continental europe, and as we move through on into the start of friday we will start to develop a south easterly breeze, bringing some of that warmer air our way. but just how warm it gets depends on the progress of this frontal system swinging in from the atlantic because that is going to bring cloud and some heavy rain northwards and eastwards. before that arrives it looks like temperatures will, for some, get up into the middle 20 celsius but some very wet weather swinging its way eastward through friday and into the start of the weekend. russia's rouble slumps to a 16—month low against the dollar, as the economy reels from western sanctions. and gas workers in australia will vote on
