having to move all on board back out again as a precautionary measure because of these traces. no timescale yet as to when this group will be able to get back onto the barge, they are awaiting further advice from the health security agency and the health team at dorset council for further results. junior doctors have begun another four—day strike in england as part of their long running pay dispute. nhs bosses have warned this will cause significant disruption for patients, with thousands of appointments and procedures postponed. the government says its pay offer, which averages 8.8%, is fairand final. our reporter natasha turney is out in nottingham on the picket line. well, we're out here again on the picket line withjunior doctors. this the fifth strike now. we're here in nottingham, but there are picket lines like this all across the country outside hospitals and they're striking over pay and conditions, which has caused significant disruption to the hospitals. in effect, there's been 19 days now where they haven't had a third of the workforce in place and that has meant that around 750,000 appointments have been disrupted. it will have more of an impact this time because a recent ruling has meant that they cannot fill behind the staff out here on strike today with agency staff. now, they're out here, of course, because they want better pay. the government has offered them now an effective 9% pay rise, but speaking to doctors here today they say that is not enough and around 30% would be what they need to get their pay back up to where they believe it should be. now, the government has said no more talks. they say we've offered you a pay rise and they're going from there. now, the message from the nhs is if you have an appointment today, please show up at it unless you've been called by the hospital saying otherwise. these strikes, of course, continuing now for the next four days, a lot of disruption caused and they hope that that means that they will get some action to their pay claim. students in scotland have been allowed to sit their exams using british sign language since 2004, but, until recently, many crucial scientific terms were missing. almost 20 years since the exams were first introduced, more than 200 new signs have been added to the bsl dictionary to help deaf students learn about environmental science. 0ur science editor, victoria, gill has more. victoria gill has more. an afternoon learning about the science of climate change. true orfalse — plants and oceans remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. this is a lesson taught in british sign language, a language that until recently was missing crucial scientific vocabulary. at this secondary school in glasgow, deaf children are learning newly created signs that have just been added to the bsl dictionary. so this is a sign for greenhouse gases — and that's a new one, i didn't know that one before. so in physics, for example, some of the concepts are really abstract, and sign language can help children understand, because it's a visual language. so this is a sign for photosynthesis. so here we have a leaf. and this is the sun. it's light energy and it's absorbed into the leaf, which then creates something. it creates food. it was back in 2004 that students in scotland were officially allowed to do their exams in british sign language. but the scientific terms for science exams just didn't exist so they're being created, still, here at edinburgh university. deaf scientists, educators and sign language experts work together to create the new signs. today, the focus is human biology. you've got the brain, the spinal cord, and then the branching out from the spinal cord. spinal cord and central nervous system would also include the brain. yes. so then you would add to that, that symbol, you would add to that sign to include the brain? yes. that becomes the central nervous system, but we need to make sure that we're all in agreement. the scientist leading this project wants to break down the language barriers that she faced in her early career. i was involved in research for 11 years and although i went to numerous meetings but was never truly involved because i couldn't understand what people were saying — the interpreters weren't qualified. in the last decade, dozens of descriptive scientific signs have been added to the official british sign language glossary. that has just been so important. it's had a huge impact on me. i've been able to have conversations using this vocabulary and it's helped me with my teaching. so i'm passionate about continuing this work, as are the whole team. once it's been agreed on, each new biological sign is recorded for the video dictionary. for deaf students, these are more than just words — they're visual explanations. i really like science and i love learning it, and it's easier to learn when we have the signs. it's language that's helping some of the next generation of scientists to understand and talk about the world around them. victoria gill, bbc news in glasgow. she's known as the queen of latin, but strictly come dancing head judge shirley ballas has soared to new heights this week — taking on a terrifying wing walk. the ballroom legend is facing her fear of heights in a series of challenges to raise awareness around the importance of mental health, after losing her brother to suicide. tim muffet reports. my brother was my hero. he said you will push yourself to be all you can be, because i see one day you will be a great dancer, you will do something with your life. and i will never forget those words. he was always there for me, 21w. doesn't matter if i was getting bullied, he was the man who stood behind me. yeah, ijust miss him. shirley's brother david took his own life in 2003 aged 1m. this week, in his memory, shirley is tackling her fear of heights head—on. this is terrifying. why have you decided to take on these challenges? i wanted to do something unique and special that could grab the attention of the public to understand that we want to bring suicide out of the dark and into the light. my ultimate wish is that people realise life is worth living and that there are people to talk about it. the challenge began with a zip wire. how was that? the zip line was terrifying. i tried to stay focused and breathe. i learned that as a dancer, and to put that in my mind and just stay focused. what are your thoughts about the wing walk? i am extremely nervous. ifelt ill all morning, i did not sleep, i got emotional in the car. i don't ever remember being this nervous. i've got pictures of my brother close to my chest here and i am doing this for all of you out there you have ever lost a loved one. here we go, shirley. ten out of ten for braveness. suicide is the uk's biggest killer of men under the age of 50, and the charity that shirley is raising money for, the campaign against living miserably, says its staff receive a call every 59 seconds. i didn't realise such a volume of people that are struggling. and now i am doing this campaign and challenge, the messages that i'm getting. so i want to say to everybody, i hope you never experience what i have experienced. reach out, life is worth living. shirley, give us a wave! how was that?
