he faces four counts, including conspiracy to defraud the united states and to deny voters the right to have their ballots counted. live now to tim heaphy, former lead investigator for the house january 6th select committee. thank you so much forjoining us. i think for people who perhaps haven't covered every twist and turn of the story, just explain to us why that january 6th select committee was so crucial to what we are seeing now? facts are what makes cases and determines outcomes, and the select committee uncovered the core facts here. congress created the select committee to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the attack on the capitol, and that's what we did through a series of hearings and ultimately and 845 page report. the committee set forth the core allegations that remain allegations against mr trump, he and his co—conspirators specifically intended to prevent the transfer of power. so the indictment is built on a determination of fact by the select committee. find a determination of fact by the select committee.— a determination of fact by the select committee. and this was an extraordinary _ select committee. and this was an extraordinary committee, - select committee. and this was an i extraordinary committee, interviewed over 1000 people, reviewed a million documents. what was it, from your perspective, the reason you came to the conclusions you did in terms of having the confidence to put these charges forward for the department ofjustice to go forward with? so are ofjustice to go forward with? so we had a lot of — ofjustice to go forward with? so we had a lot of cooperation _ ofjustice to go forward with? so we had a lot of cooperation from - had a lot of cooperation from witnesses, from republicans, members of the trump administration, his attorney general, his white house council, members of his family who came and provided information about saying no. there were a lot of very courageous people who put principle over party, who held firm to the rule of law and would not do what the president suggested they do or had the authority and basis to do. so it was the facts we found and how compelling they were. it was that there was... that was in the referrals the committee made to the department ofjustice. find referrals the committee made to the department of justice.— department ofjustice. and after the referrals from _ department ofjustice. and after the referrals from the _ department ofjustice. and after the referrals from the select _ department ofjustice. and after the | referrals from the select committee, special counciljack smith then conducted his own investigation to see what he had, and that process took another eight months or so? we ave took another eight months or so? - gave him all transcript of our interviews, all documents we obtained, so again, there was a pretty strong evidentiary foundation upon which he could build. he took that and has taken some additional steps, he's gotten access to additional information that has only made the possible criminal case stronger. we are already at the point in the end of our process, which was the very first couple of days of this year, that there was evidence of criminal conduct, and in the eight months, the special council has continued to pursue those facts, my suggestion is he's only gotten more.— those facts, my suggestion is he's only gotten more. take us through the charges _ only gotten more. take us through the charges again, _ only gotten more. take us through the charges again, if— only gotten more. take us through the charges again, if you _ only gotten more. take us through the charges again, if you would, i only gotten more. take us through | the charges again, if you would, for peoplejoining to work the charges again, if you would, for people joining to work out specifically what mr trump is being charged with. the specifically what mr trump is being charged with-— specifically what mr trump is being char: ed with. . . . , charged with. the main charge is the one the committee _ charged with. the main charge is the one the committee referred, - charged with. the main charge is the one the committee referred, which l charged with. the main charge is the| one the committee referred, which is conspiracy to obstruct official proceedings. the government has to prove that the president specifically intended to obstruct, impede or interfere with ape official proceeding. the joint session of congress, at which the electors are certified, is the official proceeding. so the evidence the special council must produce will demonstrate that mr trump intended that process not go forward, that it be obstructed or impeded. he's also charged with conspiracy to defraud the united states, which also gave rise to conspiracy to prevent the lawful function of government. again, the certification would be such a function. in the final charges deprivation of rights — the act of attempting to prevent the certification, essentially deprives americans of their constitutional right to vote. it essentially divests them of the vote because the action that he was attempting to take would be inconsistent with the popular vote. so that is an old reconstruction era statute the council has used to emphasise this cuts to the very core of the threat to democracy. 50 cuts to the very core of the threat to democracy-— to democracy. so this is the third indictment _ to democracy. so this is the third indictment - _ to democracy. so this is the third indictment - in _ to democracy. so this is the third indictment - in your _ to democracy. so this is the third indictment - in your view, - to democracy. so this is the third indictment - in your view, the . to democracy. so this is the third i indictment - in your view, the most indictment — in your view, the most serious when you compare to the other two? this in your opinion is the most significant? i other two? this in your opinion is the most significant?— the most significant? i think so, this was conduct _ the most significant? i think so, this was conduct conducted - the most significant? i think so, | this was conduct conducted when the most significant? i think so, - this was conduct conducted when he was president, and also threatened the very fabric of this democracy, of the right for people to choose their leaders. so people can make their leaders. so people can make their own decisions about what's more serious than others, but this one, given its official conduct and that it cuts to the core of american principles, seems the most serious. tell us what your view is on the timetable that we are looking at. 0bviously we've been talking about the fact that it's a presidential election year next year in november 2024 - is election year next year in november 2024 — is there any way that, in your opinion, this legal process could be finished by that point? potentially, yes. the special council has charged donald trump alone, not his co—conspirators, and the statutes that he chose in part out of try to get this case tried as soon as possible. the department of justice policy prevents taking any enforcement action close... people start voting as far as the beginning of next year, he was... to get this case adjudicated sometime in early 2024. it might be of adjudicated before the election. mr trump will try to draw this out and get money on the fact that he's been indicted, and i'm not sure i see a coherent legal defence, i think the defence is one of public relations and politics, much more so than the legal merits. so i think the government will be pushing for a speedy trial, the defendant trying to delay it, and we'll see how the government lays that.— government lays that. thanks for our government lays that. thanks for your insights- _ let's bring in the democratic party strategist cristina antelo. as people are aware, mr trump is still in the air, he was due to land very shortly. your thoughts, listening to timothy they are talking about the january 6th committee, which is so crucial to understanding where we are today, that was the first big part of the process that has led us to where we are now? ~ ,,., y process that has led us to where we are now? ~ ,,., , .,, process that has led us to where we are now? ~ , ., are now? absolutely, it was a discovery _ are now? absolutely, it was a discovery machine _ are now? absolutely, it was a discovery machine for- are now? absolutely, it was a discovery machine for sure, i are now? absolutely, it was a discovery machine for sure, itj are now? absolutely, it was a - discovery machine for sure, it took on a lot of time, interviewing a lot of witnesses the doj hadn't been able to get to, and they certainly laid out the case and made it publicly, they put it on television and lead the trail for the doj to follow, and it certainly did consolidate the case quite quickly. and we heard timothy say there that what they had were a lot of republicans who were involved in that process, and were willing to talk about their experiences and why they were supporting the process. i think perhaps what's interesting for people watching this and listening to what's been said, there aren't many republican voices that are coming out and criticising the former president.— coming out and criticising the former president. coming out and criticising the former resident. . * , former president. there aren't, but there's something _ former president. there aren't, but there's something very _ former president. there aren't, but there's something very interesting | there's something very interesting happening — senator mitch mcconnell, the top ranking republican who leads the top ranking republican who leads the senate, from the get—go he said "i won't opine or vote for impeachment because it would be inappropriate, but there is a justice system out there specifically for this sort of thing," and he remained silent since then. now you are seeing william barr and mike pence come out publicly and say that they think there were problems with what trump did and they are fighting back. there's a general sense within establishment republicans that they do not want trump at the top of their ticket and are starting to quietly turn, and the right folks at the right time seem to be getting in on the fight. chris christie is also running for president, so i think that, while the folks that are still in office still need to have some kind of alignment with donald trump to be able to get reelected for him to be able to get reelected for him to stay quiet, they've been defending some of his other charges against mrtrump, but defending some of his other charges against mr trump, but on these they've stayed a bit more quiet. and i think you'll see more and more of that as these facts come out, i think the special council has even more detail behind what was already released, i think he's got significant evidence because he used that word knowingly, very effectively in this indictment. so i assume he's able to back that up. thank you so much for that, you'll be able to see on your screens that we are watching the trump plane. it took off from newjersey about half an hour to an hour ago and has been making its way to washington, dc. rena shaw is a political analyst and former senior aide to two republican members of congress. thank you for joining us. interesting as a former aide to two a public and rivers of congress, what are your thoughts as you watch the former republican president coming in to land to be indicted for another criminal federal charge? mr; indicted for another criminal federal charge?— indicted for another criminal federal chare? g , ., , federal charge? my first thoughts are about justice _ federal charge? my first thoughts are aboutjustice in _ federal charge? my first thoughts are aboutjustice in these - federal charge? my first thoughts are aboutjustice in these unitedl are aboutjustice in these united states. i know thatjustice isn't possible if accountability doesn't come first. so today is a great day to see the former president arraigned on these charges because it shows that nobody is above the law, and that's something you hear a lot from many political people who believe in putting country over party, again principles over politics. and this is the kind of moment which will take my breath away, i'll be honest. i hear many fellow publicans calling it a dark day for democracy — if donald trump are not held accountable for his actions onjanuary 6th, 2021, where he held his seat as the leader of the free world, the former leader of the free world, the former leader of the free world, the former leader of the free world, we are really in dark territory if we didn't see him held accountable. so i thinkjustice needs to prevail, it will prevail. again, he's not been charged guilty, he's innocent until proven if, and that's one thing he's really relying on. another thing he is relying on is that the wheels ofjustice move slow here, and that's why it took so long to get to this day. the facts needed to be assembled and has needed to be assembled and has needed to be assembled and has needed to happen in a very concentrated, thoughtful manner, and i think the department ofjustice did do that. we i think the department ofjustice did do that-— did do that. we don't know what the former president _ did do that. we don't know what the former president is _ did do that. we don't know what the former president is saying, - did do that. we don't know what the former president is saying, he - former president is saying, he hasn't said anything on camera but he has been using social media. as we know, donald trump does use social media, talking about how he's going to dc to be arrested for having... "it's a great honour because i'm being arrested for you." what does that mean, if you dig down into the mind of donald trump? ewen into the mind of donald trump? seven ears of into the mind of donald trump? seven years of hearing _ into the mind of donald trump? seven years of hearing those _ into the mind of donald trump? seven years of hearing those words - - years of hearing those words — corrupt, rich, witchhunt — my god, wejust corrupt, rich, witchhunt — my god, we just cannot escape hearing the same message over and over. it feels like groundhog day. the republican party would be so much better off without donald trump. its leaders at the highest levels know that. but what can they do? they can't hold back somebody that's been told by many republican voters and flyover states and our midwestern states, and places and parts of america that feel that they've been forgotten. those people say this is a man with a powerful personality and who's actually been fun, they've called him. i think actually been fun, they've called him. ithink it actually been fun, they've called him. i think it is certainly a crisis for the republican party to see donald trump continue to pull well, but i would caution against looking at the polls right now. you do get a lot of extreme, ardent supporters of mr trump coming out to rallies, to events where they'll boo people like will hurd who thrown his hat into the ring. he said just in iowa this past weekend that donald trump is running for president in order to avoid jail time, something to that effect, those were his exact words, and he got booed for that. but look, there are many moderate, centrist republicans who even identified as independent now in the era of donald trump that feel that the republican party needs somebody else at its top, that this former president is too rife with problems, that he's not representative of any sort of values of any policies he stands for, he stands only for himself. so this is a process that needs to play itself out. ijust pray it's a process that plays out without any political violence or anything of that sort that we saw on january 6th, 2021. we anything of that sort that we saw on january 6th. 2021.— january 6th, 2021. we are watching the landin: january 6th, 2021. we are watching the landing gear— january 6th, 2021. we are watching the landing gear on _ january 6th, 2021. we are watching the landing gear on donald - january 6th, 2021. we are watching j the landing gear on donald trump's plane being lowered, so one can only assume he's nearly come to the end of that particular section of the journey from the airport, he will make the short drive to the court at washington, dc where our correspondent nomia iqbal is there for us. good to talk to you again, set the scene, i imagine there will be the anticipation that mr trump will be there shortly, it must be growing. will be there shortly, it must be curowin. * , ., will be there shortly, it must be curowin. *, ., ., growing. he's due to arrive in around ten — growing. he's due to arrive in around ten minutes' - growing. he's due to arrive in around ten minutes' time, i growing. he's due to arrive in| around ten minutes' time, and growing. he's due to arrive in - around ten minutes' time, and as was the case when he was arriving for his arraignment in miami, he's been on his social media network site — he's just put up now attacking president biden, accusing his family of stealing millions of dollars. and just on that post, this is a defence that i think we will see donald trump and his allies and lawyers really push, and they are already doing it, which is that they believe he can't get a fair trial in dc. dc is obviously a very liberal city, it leans left, most people here do vote for the democrats. but the reason why the arraignment is happening here and buy it trial will happen here and buy it trial will happen here is because it's the scene of the alleged crime. but the argument donald trump is making is that it shouldn't be held here, he won't get a fair hearing, thejury pool is biased, and therefore the trial, whenever that will be, should be held in the state of west virginia which is more sympathetic towards donald trump. that argument will really wash with the judge, with the federal courts because it's the same argument that a lot of the january 6th defenders have made. remember, this house is still looking at the cases of the writers of that day, many have been given jail sentences, and when they had their arguments, they made the same argument, that they made the same argument, that thejury pool was they made the same argument, that the jury pool was biased and making claims that the only americans that traumatised by january 6th are washingtonians. so that won't fly with the judge here come up with the federal courthouse. it is an argument that you can see donald trump and his supporters really advancing. it's all part of his other strategy, which is to try and run down the clock on this, to try and get the trial for this indictment and the others to happen, if they do, after the election. i can tell you that it won't be long until mr trump is with you because he has landed, we arejust until mr trump is with you because he has landed, we are just watching those pictures there, the aircraft just taxiing towards the security detail ready to pick him up and take them to where you are. we just have time to speak to david weinstein, a lawyer. we will stay on those pictures, presumably mr trump will be emerging from that plane fairly shortly. mrweinstein, ijust want your thoughts, we were hearing from nomia iqbal, that mr trump doesn't feel he could get a fair trial in washington, dc, that's one of the sticking points at the moment. if they can... well, the question is not whether any of these jurors would've heard about this matter or this case beforehand, but rather relying on the evidence and statements admitted in the court in order to get a fair trial. that's really the question these jurors have to answer. really the question these “urors have to answer.* really the question these “urors have to answer. * , ., have to answer. and in terms of the le . al have to answer. and in terms of the legal process. _ have to answer. and in terms of the legal process, just _ have to answer. and in terms of the legal process, just as _ have to answer. and in terms of the legal process, just as we _ have to answer. and in terms of the legal process, just as we are - legal process, just as we are watching the plane with its goal of letters beaming in the sunlight, take us through those charges that he is facing and why commentators are saying these are the most serious he's faced so far. n0 audio mr weinstein, unfortunately i think we are having— mr weinstein, unfortunately i think we are havin ,, , let's go back to rena, tell us once again about those charges and just how significant they are. again about those charges and 'ust how significant they are.* again about those charges and 'ust how significant they are. these are very significant. — how significant they are. these are very significant, if— how significant they are. these are very significant, if i'm _ how significant they are. these are very significant, if i'm not - very significant, if i'm not mistaken, we are talking about for felony charges here that he's facing, and six co—conspirators have been named as i understand. now this isjust such an been named as i understand. now this is just such an unbelievable moment, i keep saying that but there's no other word for this, we've never seen this. the former president will not be processed at the way that any other american — i think it's quite unusual, but again, it puts on display a little bit of the two systems ofjustice display a little bit of the two systems of justice we display a little bit of the two systems ofjustice we have here. he will not get a mug shot, he'll have his digitalfingerprint will not get a mug shot, he'll have his digital fingerprint taken, will not get a mug shot, he'll have his digitalfingerprint taken, and he'll be taken down through a tunnel, like i heard today, not far from me here. and also what's incredible is that he will be just within sight of the front of the us capitol where that insurrection took place, and yes, it was a riot from people who marched peacefully from the white house to the capitol — not far but a lot of marching there. but there were people in the crowd who didn't do so peacefully, and over the course of a few hours we saw them scale the capitol, overtake it and bash windows and do of course everything that was unlawful. i watched from a building that was just in front of the building in which mr trump will be arraigned in today. so all of thatjust right there at the scene of the crime — what he's being charged with is — well, let's not get into the legal, but let's talk about the defence that many republicans on capitol hill are talking about right now, and that he will take. and it is a defence that will re—let to make arrest on the argument that he, in his first amendment right, allowed him to say whatever he said that day and did not conspire with other people, but to tell them what he thought should happen. so let's see what happens in the court when he does go in, no cameras will be allowed but there will be reporting allowed but there will be reporting a comes out and we will learn more about what the government is saying mr trump is guilty of. of course anybody who wants to read it, the 45 page indictment is out there, but that will be the main argument that lawyers take on... to raise concerns about the integrity of the election in 2020. so that's the argument that will be centred on, but expect the republicans to say that this is a politically motivated witchhunt, completely driven byjoe biden and democrats. we completely driven by joe biden and democrats. ~ ., ., . .,, democrats. we are watching those ictures democrats. we are watching those pictures again _ democrats. we are watching those pictures again from _ democrats. we are watching those pictures again from ronald - democrats. we are watching those j pictures again from ronald reagan airport, the former president will be making his way shortly to the court at washington, dc. would you expect his supporters to be there? he is such a divisive figure, isn't he? but he's retained this core base of support. we he? but he's retained this core base of su ort. ~ , . he? but he's retained this core base ofsu--ort. , . i, of support. we live in such hyper olarised of support. we live in such hyper polarised times _ of support. we live in such hyper polarised times here, _ of support. we live in such hyper polarised times here, and - of support. we live in such hyper polarised times here, and it - of support. we live in such hyper| polarised times here, and it feels as if the very far right faction of the republican party is growing. but there is data that shows that's not true. i think in any political moment, you'll see the most enthusiastic, passionate folks come out — and yes, i've already seen trump flags flying nearby the building where the arraignment will happen. there are people who have even camped out outside the department ofjustice, which is not too farfrom there, department ofjustice, which is not too far from there, saying they are making this illegal attempt to interfere in the 2024 election. again, rememberwhat interfere in the 2024 election. again, remember what you are hearing from far right extreme republicans who continue to have trump's back, though he's not in office any more, they are saying this is an attempt by the democrats to really make it possible forjoe biden to win next year's general election in 2024. so i think this is a moment in which we have to really say, "is this what's reflective of the country at large?" i don't even think it's reflective of what many federal level republicans think. there are many sitting on capitol hill right now who note it'll be a very uphill battle for trump to win the election in 2024, even if he wins the republican nomination at the end of the primary process next year. rina. the primary process next year. rina, thank ou the primary process next year. rina, thank you so — the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much _ the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much for— the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much for your - the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much for your insights and comments over the last few minutes. you are watching some pictures there of the scene at ronald reagan airport, we've been following the journey from donald trump ozment golf course in new jersey to washington, where he will be here in court very shortly. i want to take you straight over to my colleague outside the court and can bring you the latest from there as donald trump makes his way to where you are. donald trump makes his way to where ou are. . * , donald trump makes his way to where ou are. ., * , ., donald trump makes his way to where ou are. ., h ., , you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images _ you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images of _ you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images of donald - you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images of donald trump i now live images of donald trump ozment plane arriving here in washington, dc, and of course there are many people awaiting his arrival here in the courthouse in the centre of washington, dc —— donald trump ozment plane. walking around the courthouse, there are pockets of trump supporters, anti—trump protesters, but there truly is just a throng of media here to my left and right, this court is surrounded byjournalists and right, this court is surrounded by journalists and and right, this court is surrounded byjournalists and members of the media, everyone waiting for trump's arrival here which should happen in less than an hour, we are expecting him around 4pm local time. it really is an historic event, a former president being brought to court to hearfederal president being brought to court to hear federal charges read president being brought to court to hearfederal charges read out president being brought to court to hear federal charges read out before him. but many of these events will be seeing later today are starting to feel a little bit normal and routine. of course, this is now the third indictment that donald trump is facing, so a lot of what he'll be going through today he's already done, and we've already seen. we are expecting him to arrive around 4pm today at the court. from now democrat there, he will likely have to give personal details we are not expecting. you'll be brought before a magistratejudge expecting. you'll be brought before a magistrate judge and expecting. you'll be brought before a magistratejudge and have expecting. you'll be brought before a magistrate judge and have those charges read out formally in front of him, he'll be accompanied by a trio his legal team, and he'll enter a plea — we have course expect that to be a plea of not guilty — and there should be a discussion about there should be a discussion about the conditions of his release, given the conditions of his release, given the fact that he's the former president and the front runner in 2024 republican race. there are expected to be no conditions set for his release, or at least very few. there could be some sort of discussion from his lawyers about asking for a change of venue, the president and his lawyers have been speaking very publicly about the fact that they are not sure that he can get a fair trial in washington, dc. this is a very left—leaning area of the country — that could extend those proceedings further but it's likely to be a very short court appearance, 30—60 minutes maximum, then we expect mr trump to leave the courthouse and make his way right back to the airport. we are looking at some images now, waiting for mr trump to the part that plane. it's about a 20 minute drive, anyone who's been to washington, dc before and has arrived at ronald reagan airport, they'll know this is a very short taxi ride, this is a short motorcade ride from the city, and plenty of people are awaiting to see the arrival of mr trump. he'll be facing a magistratejudge the arrival of mr trump. he'll be facing a magistrate judge today but there's already a judge who's been assigned to this case, and 0bama appointee, and she's presided over several otherjanuary 6th cases — in fact, one symbolic know is that this exact courthouse has seen dozens of priorjanuary 6th cases as well. so as we wait for mr trump to arrive on the tarmac here, we will be bringing you any updates right here from the courthouse in washington, dc. stay tuned to bbc news. hello, i'm christian fraser. you're watching the context on bbc news. we are watching live pictures in washington where donald trump playing has extremely tight around the airport and on thatjourney downtown. security is very tight in fact there was a secret service sweep at the courthouse last night. strangely these pictures that we are watching all very familiar now because it looks something like this when he first appeared for that first indictment in manhattan.

he faces four counts, including conspiracy to defraud the united states and to deny voters the right to have their ballots counted. live now to tim heaphy, former lead investigator for the house january 6th select committee. thank you so much forjoining us. i think for people who perhaps haven't covered every twist and turn of the story, just explain to us why that january 6th select committee was so crucial to what we are seeing now? facts are what makes cases and determines outcomes, and the select committee uncovered the core facts here. congress created the select committee to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the attack on the capitol, and that's what we did through a series of hearings and ultimately and 845 page report. the committee set forth the core allegations that remain allegations against mr trump, he and his co—conspirators specifically intended to prevent the transfer of power. so the indictment is built on a determination of fact by the select committee. find a determination of fact by the select committee.— a determination of fact by the select committee. and this was an extraordinary _ select committee. and this was an extraordinary committee, - select committee. and this was an i extraordinary committee, interviewed over 1000 people, reviewed a million documents. what was it, from your perspective, the reason you came to the conclusions you did in terms of having the confidence to put these charges forward for the department ofjustice to go forward with? so are ofjustice to go forward with? so we had a lot of — ofjustice to go forward with? so we had a lot of cooperation _ ofjustice to go forward with? so we had a lot of cooperation from - had a lot of cooperation from witnesses, from republicans, members of the trump administration, his attorney general, his white house council, members of his family who came and provided information about saying no. there were a lot of very courageous people who put principle over party, who held firm to the rule of law and would not do what the president suggested they do or had the authority and basis to do. so it was the facts we found and how compelling they were. it was that there was... that was in the referrals the committee made to the department ofjustice. find referrals the committee made to the department of justice.— department ofjustice. and after the referrals from _ department ofjustice. and after the referrals from the _ department ofjustice. and after the referrals from the select _ department ofjustice. and after the | referrals from the select committee, special counciljack smith then conducted his own investigation to see what he had, and that process took another eight months or so? we ave took another eight months or so? ~ , . he? but he's retained this core base ofsu--ort. , . i, of support. we live in such hyper olarised of support. we live in such hyper polarised times _ of support. we live in such hyper polarised times here, _ of support. we live in such hyper polarised times here, and - of support. we live in such hyper polarised times here, and it - of support. we live in such hyper| polarised times here, and it feels as if the very far right faction of the republican party is growing. but there is data that shows that's not true. i think in any political moment, you'll see the most enthusiastic, passionate folks come out — and yes, i've already seen trump flags flying nearby the building where the arraignment will happen. there are people who have even camped out outside the department ofjustice, which is not too farfrom there, department ofjustice, which is not too far from there, saying they are making this illegal attempt to interfere in the 2024 election. again, rememberwhat interfere in the 2024 election. again, remember what you are hearing from far right extreme republicans who continue to have trump's back, though he's not in office any more, they are saying this is an attempt by the democrats to really make it possible forjoe biden to win next year's general election in 2024. so i think this is a moment in which we have to really say, "is this what's reflective of the country at large?" i don't even think it's reflective of what many federal level republicans think. there are many sitting on capitol hill right now who note it'll be a very uphill battle for trump to win the election in 2024, even if he wins the republican nomination at the end of the primary process next year. rina. the primary process next year. rina, thank ou the primary process next year. rina, thank you so — the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much _ the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much for— the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much for your - the primary process next year. rina, thank you so much for your insights and comments over the last few minutes. you are watching some pictures there of the scene at ronald reagan airport, we've been following the journey from donald trump ozment golf course in new jersey to washington, where he will be here in court very shortly. i want to take you straight over to my colleague outside the court and can bring you the latest from there as donald trump makes his way to where you are. donald trump makes his way to where ou are. . * , donald trump makes his way to where ou are. ., * , ., donald trump makes his way to where ou are. ., h ., , you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images _ you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images of _ you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images of donald - you are. that's right, we are seeing now live images of donald trump i now live images of donald trump ozment plane arriving here in washington, dc, and of course there are many people awaiting his arrival here in the courthouse in the centre of washington, dc —— donald trump ozment plane. walking around the courthouse, there are pockets of trump supporters, anti—trump protesters, but there truly is just a throng of media here to my left and right, this court is surrounded byjournalists and right, this court is surrounded by journalists and and right, this court is surrounded byjournalists and members of the media, everyone waiting for trump's arrival here which should happen in less than an hour, we are expecting him around 4pm local time. it really is an historic event, a former president being brought to court to hearfederal president being brought to court to hear federal charges read president being brought to court to hearfederal charges read out president being brought to court to hear federal charges read out before him. but many of these events will be seeing later today are starting to feel a little bit normal and routine. of course, this is now the third indictment that donald trump is facing, so a lot of what he'll be going through today he's already done, and we've already seen. we are expecting him to arrive around 4pm today at the court. from now democrat there, he will likely have to give personal details we are not expecting. you'll be brought before a magistratejudge expecting. you'll be brought before a magistrate judge and expecting. you'll be brought before a magistratejudge and have expecting. you'll be brought before a magistrate judge and have those charges read out formally in front of him, he'll be accompanied by a trio his legal team, and he'll enter a plea — we have course expect that to be a plea of not guilty — and there should be a discussion about there should be a discussion about the conditions of his release, given the conditions of his release, given the fact that he's the former president and the front runner in 2024 republican race. there are expected to be no conditions set for his release, or at least very few. there could be some sort of discussion from his lawyers about asking for a change of venue, the president and his lawyers have been speaking very publicly about the fact that they are not sure that he can get a fair trial in washington, dc. this is a very left—leaning area of the country — that could extend those proceedings further but it's likely to be a very short court appearance, 30—60 minutes maximum, then we expect mr trump to leave the courthouse and make his way right back to the airport. we are looking at some images now, waiting for mr trump to the part that plane. it's about a 20 minute drive, anyone who's been to washington, dc before and has arrived at ronald reagan airport, they'll know this is a very short taxi ride, this is a short motorcade ride from the city, and plenty of people are awaiting to see the arrival of mr trump. he'll be facing a magistratejudge the arrival of mr trump. he'll be facing a magistrate judge today but there's already a judge who's been assigned to this case, and 0bama appointee, and she's presided over several otherjanuary 6th cases — in fact, one symbolic know is that this exact courthouse has seen dozens of priorjanuary 6th cases as well. so as we wait for mr trump to arrive on the tarmac here, we will be bringing you any updates right here from the courthouse in washington, dc. stay tuned to bbc news. hello, i'm christian fraser. you're watching the context on bbc news. we are watching live pictures in washington where donald trump playing has is a truly historic arraignment. we will be live tonight in washington throughout. we will bring you all the reaction with expert analysis this evening from both sides of the argument as president trump is indicted for the third time. the u's indicted for the third time. the us see donald trumpjust indicted for the third time. the us see donald trump just getting into the motorcade. we are watching pool pictures from reagan international airport. not a long journey from reagan national airport, about a ten minute ride, he is due there at 4pm eastern time. security as you would expect extremely tight around the airport and on thatjourney downtown. security is very tight in fact there was a secret service sweep at the courthouse last night. strangely these pictures that we are watching all very familiar now because it looks something like this when he first appeared for that first indictment in manhattan.
