us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement _ us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement from _ us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement from neil - us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement from neil parish l us, nick eardley? well, we heard i that statement from neil parish last night in his constituency, where he said he was going to remain an mp and planned to continue with his duties, including as a committee chair while two investigations looked into his conduct. he has changed his mind overnight, though, there has been a lot of pressure on him to stand down and my understanding is that this afternoon he will announce he is quitting parliament. he is standing down as an mp. that would trigger a by—election in his constituency, although it is a fairly safe, in fact, a very safe tory seat, so it won't necessarily be a particularly blockbuster by—election. there has been a lot of pressure, as i say, on mr parrish to stand down. some of that was within his own party, there were calls for him to rethink its own position as a committee chairman. there were some concerns about how long this process had taken this week, from the allegations first emerging to him being withdrawn from the party in parliament. the liberal democrats were saying that neil parish, who had quit completely, —— that he should fit completely, the snp saying he should quit that committee chair role, but what we are expecting is that within the next few hours, mr neil parish will confirm he intends to stand down as an mp. * confirm he intends to stand down as an mp. . , ., base occasion, though. remember, it was yesterday that the party said that he had lost the whip and the pus the day before this they said it had been referred to a disciplinary procedure within parliament to look into. but look, the main issue here is that there has clearly been a rethink on this. neil parish said last night in that interview... he was asked the specific question, did you open something by accident? and he said that he did, but he would wait and see what the inquiry found. clearly, he has changed his mind overnight and clearly some of that pressure has been an issue, but mr neil parish has decided he cannot continue as an mp and we are expecting some confirmation on that in the next few hours. ok. expecting some confirmation on that in the next few hours.— you very much, for now. let's go back to the war in ukraine. while the focus has shifted to the russian military offensive in the east of the country, much concern remains about the safety of the port of odesa in the south of the country. it is ukraine's biggest port and plays an important role in world food supplies. there have been reports of unrest and provocations in transnistria, a region of moldova claiming independence under the auspices of russian military. meanwhile, the city has been receiving aid shipments from neighbouring romania and bulgaria — ukraine's black sea neighbours. let's find out more about the effort to defend odesa, as well as the latest developments in this war. i'm joined now by a member of the ukrainian parliament for odesa, oleksiy goncharenko. thank you very much forjoining us. so odesa is obviously in a key place. what is the latest you are hearing about the situation there?— situation there? yes, hello, thank ou for situation there? yes, hello, invitation. yes, 0desa| you for the invitation. yes, odesa is definitely one of the biggest gains of pewter in ukraine. in ukraine there are three separate cities for putin. sebastopol, which is temporarily occupied by russian premier, kyiv, and of course a strategic point of view odesa was targeted by russia by the main gates, so that is why putin is trying to rebuild that russian soviet union and so desperately tries to gain odesa, but he is unsuccessful for this. he lost the battle for kyiv and he lost the battle for kyiv and he lost the battle for kyiv and he lost the battle for odesa, but he has continued to make publications to bombard odesa, to make missile attacks and one in the regions and one of the places where he is doing this is trans nice try, which is occupied by russians and is part of moldova and during last week, there were many qualifications there and it is clear that putin tries also to escalate the war and to take to this fire of the war one more receiving from the west and from the united kingdom, and we are especially thankfulfor kingdom, and we are especially thankful for the leadership which the united kingdom and its prime minister shows in the help of ukraine. and yes, harpoon and brimstone missiles from the uk, they are on the route, they are coming to ukraine and they are strengthening our defence on the sea, but even without i can tell you that we were very successful with the attack against the russian flank, it is a missile cruiser which became a submarine because it was sent down by ukrainians and that changed the situation in the black sea very seriously. now the russian fleet is not so active. they are mostly at their sebastopol harbour and the anti—air defence there, but yes, still they can attack odesa and other parts of ukraine by ballistic missiles, which they are using very actively. so we hope we will receive more anti air defence systems from the west, which will help us also to defend our skies, like we the russian battleship, they started to come back. but unfortunately a week ago, last saturday, odesa was attacked by missiles and eight civilians were killed, including one family with a three—month—old baby, a mother, grandmother, and one couple where the lady was pregnant. and certainly after such an awful attack, by the way it happened on the east of kyiv, and after this awful attack people stopped coming back and we are very much concerned what will be next. also, people are waiting for the 9th of may, which is the russian victory day over nazism and it is very, i don't know, it is a joke from history that those who are trying to be happy with their victory over the nazis became a nazi themselves because today putin is a hitler of the 21st century, but for him it is a sacred day and many people are waiting for may be ninth to decide what to do next. —— for the 9th of may. many people are wanting to come back, but certainly there are possible missile and bomber look at the weather with ben. hello, a very good afternoon to you and rail mixed fortunes for the last day of april, fortunes for the last day of april, for some some much—needed rain. this was the scene from a weather watcher in county down earlier on. rain has been falling across many parts of northern ireland, whereas further southin northern ireland, whereas further south in gloucestershire blue skies overhead, a bit of high cloud turning decent and hazy, but across much of england and wales it is dry at the moment, whereas for much of scotland and northern ireland it is not dry and we have some really heavy rain working its way in, the wettest weather we have for quite some time, eastern parts of scotland holding on to something a bit drier, much of england and wales staying fine, but increasing amounts of cloud and a bit of rain in the far north—west later. for most of us the winds will be light, but quite breezy up towards the north west of scotland, and 12 degrees top temperature in belfast and glasgow, london at 17 degrees. through this evening and tonight, this rain in the north will sink south eastwards, weakening as it goes, though there will be some heavy bursts across western parts, not much rain in southern england. it is not going to be a cold night, eight or 10 degrees, certainly not... this frontal system will be thinking southwards, so it will bring cloud and rain across a good part of england and wales, and will bring some in drier and brighterfor scotland and northern ireland. i don't think there will be huge amounts of sunshine here, but some sunny spells, and equally a chance of one or two showers, chances of patchy rain, the odd burst out towards the west end under the cloud and rain it will feel cool, 11 or 12 degrees for cardiff and plymouth, the highest temperatures further north, 17 degrees in glasgow. bank holiday monday quite mixed affair, a a lot of cloud around, breaking at times to get some spells of sunshine, equally giving the odd showers and spots of rain here and there. normally rain starts to develop and fall across northern parts and the warmest weather will be further south. as we head deeper into the week this is the pressure chance tuesday into wednesday, how to start trying to take control, low pressure not too far away. quite a mix of weather, some bursts of rain, lots of dry weather as well and it does look like it will turn warmer as we head towards the end of the week. more weather through the rest of the afternoon, that is it

about his reasons for changing his mind yet, but as i say, the expectation now is that in the next few hours, mr parish will announce that he is standing now from parliament. but even after that, i think you will continue to hear questions like you heard from caroline nokes there about how seriously some of these accusations have been dealt with, how quickly parliament is moving to deal with them and whether more can be done to tackle the overall culture in westminster. thank you, nick. the ministry of defence says russia has been forced to merge and redeploy some of its forces in ukraine us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement _ us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement from _ us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement from neil - us, nick eardley? well, we heard that statement from neil parish l us, nick eardley? well, we heard i that statement from neil parish last night in his constituency, where he said he was going to remain an mp and planned to continue with his duties, including as a committee chair while two investigations looked into his conduct. he has changed his mind overnight, though, there has been a lot of pressure on him to stand down and my understanding is that this afternoon he will announce he is quitting parliament. he is standing down as an mp. that would trigger a by—election in his constituency, although it is a fairly safe, in fact, a very safe tory seat, so it won't necessarily be a particularly blockbuster by—election. there has been a lot of pressure, as i say, on mr parrish to stand down. some of that was within his own party, there were calls for him to rethink its own position as a committee chairman. there were some concerns about how long this process had taken this week, from the allegations first emerging to him being withdrawn from the party in parliament. the liberal democrats were saying that neil parish, who had quit completely, —— that he should fit completely, the snp saying he should quit that committee chair role, but what we are expecting is that within the next few hours, mr neil parish will confirm he intends to stand down as an mp. —— for the 9th of may. many people are wanting to come back, but certainly there are possible missile and bomber us federation. oleksiy goncharenko, thank you very i from the us federation. oleksiy i goncharenko, thank you very much indeed forjoining us.— indeed for “oining us. thank you so much. now, time for a look at the weather with ben. hello, a very good afternoon to you and rail mixed fortunes for the last day of april, fortunes for the last day of april, for some some much—needed rain. this was the scene from a weather watcher in county down earlier on. rain has been falling across many parts of northern ireland, whereas further southin northern ireland, whereas further south in gloucestershire blue skies overhead, a bit of high cloud turning decent and hazy, but across much of england and wales it is dry at the moment, whereas for much of scotland and northern ireland it is not dry and we have some really heavy rain working its way in, the wettest weather we have for quite some time, eastern parts of scotland holding on to something a bit drier, much of england and wales staying fine, but increasing amounts of cloud and a bit of rain in the far north—west later. for most of us the winds will be light, but quite breezy up towards the north west of scotland, and 12 degrees top temperature in belfast and glasgow, london at 17 degrees. through this evening and tonight, this rain in the north will sink south eastwards, weakening as it goes, though there will be some heavy bursts across western parts, not much rain in southern england. it is not going to be a cold night, eight or 10 degrees, certainly not... this frontal system will be thinking southwards, so it will bring cloud and rain across a good part of england and wales, and will bring some in drier and brighterfor scotland and northern ireland. i don't think there will be huge amounts of sunshine here, but some sunny spells, and equally a chance of one or two showers, chances of patchy rain, the odd burst out towards the west end under the cloud and rain it will feel cool, 11 or 12 degrees for cardiff and plymouth, the highest temperatures further north, 17 degrees in glasgow. bank holiday monday quite mixed affair, a a lot of cloud around, breaking at times to get some spells of sunshine, equally giving the odd showers and spots of rain here and there. normally rain starts to develop and fall across northern parts and the warmest weather will be further south. as we head deeper into the week this is the pressure chance tuesday into wednesday, how to start trying to take control, low pressure not too far away. quite a mix of weather, some bursts of rain, lots of dry weather as well and it does look like it will turn warmer as we head towards the end of the week. more weather through the rest of the afternoon, that is it
