England captain. Tonight with the context, the former mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings Blake, and katie balls, deputy Political Editor at the spectator magazine. For its citizens and defenders, life in the ukrainian port city mariupol over the past six weeks has been close to hell. Now, mariupol itself could be on the brink of falling. Russia is claiming more than 1,000 ukrainian troops have surrendered. We cannot independently verify either claim, but ukraine says it still holds the city. Mariupol has paid a huge cost, the mayor says around 21,000 civilians have been killed, and 120,000 remain trapped. Gaining full control of mariupol would be a major gain for moscow, creating a bridge between crimea and the donbas, enabling thousands of troops to be deployed to the east, to help with the new offensive there. Yuri sak is advisor to the Ukrainian Defence ministry he says the lesson from mariupol is that ukraine needs more weapons, urgently. Is that ukraine needs if ukraine had received more heavy weaponry earlier, the situation in mariupol would not be so horrific and bad. This allows us to draw a conclusion and analogy that ukraine needs to receive those heavy weapons as soon as possible. And in an online adress in english ukraines president Volodomyr Zelensky made another plea to his western allies for support. That call for support looks set to be answered. President zelensky spent almost an hour on the phone Withjoe Biden today who has now announced an additional 800 million in Military Assistance to ukraine. The package includes artillery systems, Artillery Rounds and armoured personnel carriers. And speaking in the last hour, pentagon Spokespersonjohn Kirby said weapons could be in the hands of ukrainian fighters in a matter of days. We are still finishing up the last 800 million that President Biden authorised and we are getting close to the end of that and we expect to be complete without last 800 million by the middle of this month, around the 15th, but we are not going to wait and we are going to start getting these articles on the way, as well, so we will literally start right away. Joining me now is retired a star general Mike Scapparrotti Who was the Top Commander of us forces in europe and nato forces until his retirement in 2019. Thanks Forjoining Us. Interesting, the news coming in, and as you hear what is being said about military aid or lethal aid how it is also called, how difficult is it to predict how much ammunition and weaponry might be needed, for example, by the ukrainian fighters in apple . It example, by the ukrainian fighters in a le . , , example, by the ukrainian Fighters Inaule . , q example, by the ukrainian Fighters Inaule . , m. , in apple . It is pretty difficult to redict in apple . It is pretty difficult to predict in apple . It is pretty difficult to predict mariupol. In apple . It is pretty difficult to predict mariupol. We dont have good information, predict mariupol. We dont have good information, and predict mariupol. We dont have good information, and the predict mariupol. We dont havel good information, and the Ukrainian Government is fighting a very tough war and actually fighting it quite well but these kind of predictions are difficult, plus it is unpredictable, how this conflict will continue to develop. For instance, the russians are now focusing their forces in the east but the forces they intend to have are pretty badly beaten and it will take time to reconstitute those forces and get them into battle, so i think we have got to give ukraine as quickly as possible everything they need. As quickly as possible everything the need. ,. , they need. Some of the words we heard there they need. Some of the words we heard there from they need. Some of the words we heard there from john they need. Some of the words we heard there from john kirby, they need. Some of the words we heard there from john kirby, do l they need. Some of the words we i heard there from john kirby, do you think ukrainians will get they need . We are hearing about mariupol potentially being on the brink. Well, i think we are going to be closer to what they need, and both the us and nato have put limits on this because they dont want to broaden the conflict which is a good reason but we have seen in the last week, a trend that is moving closer to what president zelensky is calling for and the uk and the us have now sent armoured vehicles and there is discussions with slovakia and other allies to provide mig 29s once again so i think the west has decided to accelerate their supplies and we need to provide better systems and the us has said we are going to send more. If systems and the us has said we are going to send more. Going to send more. If mariupol. Russia, going to send more. If mariupol. Russia. What going to send more. If mariupol. Russia, what should going to send more. If mariupol. Russia, what should people going to send more. If mariupol. L russia, what should people expect after that . One thing is, unless after that . Falls to russia. One thing is, unless we after that . Falls to russia. One thing is, unless we get after that . Falls to russia. Que thing is, unless we get supplies into those forces in mariupol, it is likely to fall. That will solidify the russians land bridge to crimea and its connection to the donbas region and its incentive for the russians to continue this brutal attack in the donbas region with the objective of taking both of those areas which is what they say their objectivists. In the long run that provides putin with some semblance of a victory that he seeks in order to save face, in what has been a tough battle for him. That to save face, in what has been a tough battle for him. Tough battle for him. That is interesting, tough battle for him. That is interesting, you tough battle for him. That is interesting, you talk tough battle for him. That is interesting, you talk about | tough battle for him. That is interesting, you talk about that, if the ammunition doesnt come, that mariupol could fall. As you look at this, katie, and we get a sense of what the future might look like, even taken the microcosm of mariupol, what are you thinking about what this might mean for the uk . We about what this might mean for the uk . ~ ~. ,. , uk . We know in terms of the uk government uk . We know in terms of the uk Government Response uk . What is going to be interesting, there is a sense on the uk side interesting, there is a sense on the uk side that ukraine should not rush into a uk side that ukraine should not rush into a negotiated agreement, that they would have to give up too much and ultimately russia would take too much, and ultimately russia would take too much, but and ultimately russia would take too much, but as a result of that, given that putin much, but as a result of that, given that putin is much, but as a result of that, given that putin is going to need some kind of that putin is going to need some kind of victory, it will be a long and protracted war and that will mean and protracted war and that will mean tots and protracted war and that will mean lots more arms and im not sure how we mean lots more arms and im not sure how we are mean lots more arms and im not sure how we are quite prepared for this to go how we are quite prepared for this to go on. It 3 something ukraine could potentially reclaim if they find themselves in a situation and have the conditions to do so but i think it will continue to be a long fight and there will be some contested ground over time. I think this is going to go for quite some time. Putin is a master of frozen conflicts, so to speak. Taking terrain and forcing a countrys freedom and sovereignty, as he holds on to it, and the other thing i would mention, typically they would put in peacekeepers and then already start administering those areas from russia and there has been reporting that he is already doing that in some of the areas they control now. Interesting. One more question areas they control now. Interesting. One more question before areas they control now. Interesting. One more question before you areas they control now. Interesting. They were able to apprehend him without incident and he did not fight back. But now we note that he is going to be charged with federal crimes, committing a Terrorist Attack on mass transit. It is so interesting to hear from authorities how they were able to piece together the moments, the hours after the attack, and they say they now know that as civilians were fleeing in shock, onto another train across the platform to get away from the scene, that he boarded the other train along with them, so it has been an amazing investigation as the fbi along with new york officials have been trying to locate him and now have. ,. ,. , ~ ,. , have. Yesterday, he became the first sitting Prime Minister to have been found to have broken the law. His Transport Secretary defended him earlier today who said that mrjohnson hadnt acted with malice or intent. Now, though, justice minister, lord david wolfson, has written to the Prime Minister with his resignation, saying the scale, context and nature of those breaches mean that it would be inconsistent with the rule of law for that for that conduct to pass with constitutional impunity. But what could be more damaging is when he went on to say his concern was. Let me turn to our guests. I suppose we are 2a hours on and the conservative peer david wolfson, resign, what does that change with the story . Resigning. It resign, what does that change with the story . Resigning. It has been interesting since the news of the. Interesting since the news of the fines, the first wave of fines, because a couple of months ago there was a real sense that if Boris Johnson was to receive a fixed Penalty Notice he would get a number of letters required for a No Confidence Vote and it would be the end of his premiership but actually it has been pretty calm by relative standards compared to that scenario. 0nly relative standards compared to that scenario. Only a handful of tory mps have said he should go, and some have said he should go, and some have not changed their mind, they thought he should have gone since earlier this year, so there is already a pre existing stock but i think this ministerial resignation is one to watch because clearly if you are brief is justice of law, the fact that the Prime Minister and the chancellor have been fined, breaking covid rules, that is a particular issue, but as soon as one person resigns, it puts pressure on others and people have been trying not to think about these things, saying they will stick with the group, but this could mean they have a moment over the weekend to wonder. There are also lots of mps who are publicly saying they support Boris Johnson, over70, but the Parliamentary Party has over 300 tory mps and you have more mps currently being silent and what would worry me if i was Boris Johnson is the fact many are still making up their mind. [30 johnson is the fact many are still making up their mind. Johnson is the fact many are still making up their mind. Do you think that is what making up their mind. Of course there is pressure justice and the law. Of course there is pressure on justice and the law. Of course there is pressure on Dominic Justice and the law. Of course there is pressure on Dominic Raab Justice and the law. Of course there is pressure on dominic raab to is pressure on dominic raab to consider his position and i would be surprised because he is very loyal to borisjohnson and i do think there are otherjustice ministers in there are otherjustice ministers in the department. This is farfrom over. Borisjohnson is not Out Of The Woods and we dont know the time yet but also we are hearing that he could get more fines which could be the final triggerfor some people. Viewers should know that the fine is £50 so there may be more butjust to put that in the context for people that may be had not heard how much it is. That continues. We will see if the angle will filter into the public and back towards conservative politicians. As a coach, when your team suffers a big loss theres a lot of excuses you can make we missed our chances, or the referee wasnt on our side. But blaming the loss on the gender of your players is never a good idea. Well, thats what kenny shiels manager of the Northern Irelands womens Football Team decided to do, after his side suffered a 5 0 defeat to england last night. He has since apologised. But as youd expect, it caused a lot of shock and outrage online including from former footballers. It has a bit of dismay really, hearing them this morning, but he obviously put that down to the reason why they were such a disparity between the teams, and if you look at the number of shots on goal, 25 to england and one to Northern Ireland, so there were many other things he could have put down to the fact they conceded five goals, so a sense of dismay and also disappointment that we are talking about this rather than the good work they did in getting 16,000 in support of their team and also the fact that they have qualified for the European Championships this summer. We should also talk about that and the match itself but, it was a bit of dismay that he made those comparisons. I was a bit of dismay that he made those comparisons. Was a bit of dismay that he made those comparisons. I found the word interesting. Those comparisons. I found the word interesting, emotional, those comparisons. I found the word interesting, emotional, because those comparisons. I found the word i interesting, emotional, because when we talk about sport, it usually is about emotions, it is about heart and passion and drive, and they are such negative connotations about the word emotion, as well, of course, because that was put forward as the reason for losing about what you think about that particular term, being emotional its a bad thing . Emotion, sport brings out emotion in everyone, the fans and the players, the Coaching Staff, and that is why we love it so much. The issue is that, in the game we have always said, you are at your most vulnerable when you have conceded a goal or when you have scored a goal because of the high elation and emotion of what happens when you score, often it is switch on, dont concede a goal, that was very much our tactic, concede a goal, that was very much ourtactic, but concede a goal, that was very much our tactic, but the bigger question was about germany, Northern Ireland havent had the experience of Game Management at a higher level, against teams like england and who they will come up against in the European Championships, and Game Management isjust as European Championships, and Game Management is just as important as the Fitness Levels and tactical and Technical Development as well, so it was put across in a negative way as to why they conceded so many goals but there were many more issues he could have picked on. We will speak to swedens minister about their plans to join nato later this year. It is important for them to have unity with finland. We will be talking about that. Stay with us on the context. Hello. I think its fair to say that today was a mixed bag. Yes, we had plenty of sunny spells, but also one or two very heavy downpours, particularly across parts of the midlands and also in lincolnshire in the last few hours. The headline in the next few days suggests warmer weather. In fact, by the time we get to friday, good friday, temperatures could get up to 22c in east anglia, the south east and london. So, heres the satellite picture. Still a fair bit of cloud across the uk, and then this mass of cloud to the west of our neighbourhood is approaching us and will eventually reach us over the next day or so. Now, through this evening and overnight, it is largely clear across the bulk of the uk, particularly eastern and central areas, but out towards the west, the South Southwesterly Breeze is pushing in low grey cloud, mist and murk around coasts. It will be a mild night. Nine degrees in plymouth, eight in cardiff, maybe no colder than around five in glasgow. Perhaps A Touch Of Frost in the sheltered glens, but thats pretty much it. Heres the weather map for thursday, and that mass of cloud that i mentioned out towards the west is encroaching. In fact, rain in ireland. That does mean thicker cloud and also outbreaks of rain eventually reaching Northern Ireland and western parts of scotland, but elsewhere, it should be a relatively bright day after a very slow grey start. I think the best of the sunshine central, eastern, southern areas, and here temperatures will probably nudge up to around 19 or so, whereas out towards the north west, with more cloud and the outbreaks of rain, closer to around 13 15 degrees. And that Weather Front kind of almost stalls just to the west of us. It does mean further cloud and the possibility of catching some rain, so always the drier weather will be further east and south, and here, sunny spells with the temperatures getting up to around 20 in london, but also a little bit warmer there in glasgow and edinburgh, up to around 16 on good friday. Now, how about the weekend and into monday itself . Well, the weather slowly will turn more unsettled, but not until sunday night and into monday when this low pressure arrives, so i think as far as saturday and sunday are concerned, the easter weekend, overall, the weather is looking mainly dry. Its going to be nice and warm in any sunny spells with some Overnight Mist and fog and then more unsettled with some rain come monday. Bye bye. Hello, im nuala mcgovern. Youre watching the context on bbc news. Prices in the uk are up at the fastest rate for 30 years, driven by a sharp rise in the cost of petrol and diesel. With students and graduates some of the worst affected as interest on Student Loans is due to rise to 12 in england in autumn. As the war in ukraine continues, sweden and finland considerjoining nato in a matter of weeks we speak to former swedish Prime Minister carl bildt. And well speak to the divorce lawyer on tik tok whose advice on which professions to avoid in a spouse has gone viral. Tonight with the context, the former mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings Blake and katie balls, deputy Political Editor at the spectator magazine. Here in the uk, prices are going up at the fastest rate for 30 years, driven by a sharp rise in the cost of petrol and diesel. The Inflation Rate rose to 7 in the year to march. The cost of living is also set to keep going up in the coming months as the rise in the cap on Energy Prices takes effect, increasing gas and electricity bills for milions. But for many people, that wont be everything. Millions of graduates will be affected as the cost of their student loan also goes up. This is whats going to happen in the next few years from the current rate of 4. 5 there s a bid leap up to the maximum 12 this autumn. Then six months later it bumps down to around 7 because a cap kicks in and stays at that higher level. By 2024, it could plunge down to zero then up again. A very complicated and worrying picture, so what does this all mean . Joining me now is ken 0koroafor, a personal finance expert from the humble penny. You are so you are so welcome you are so welcome to the show. Thank you Forjoining Us. Talk us through what this means for students and why its going up at such Roller Coaster rates up and down. Pretty difficult i think for people to figure out how much they might actually owe. Figure out how much they might actually owe figure out how much they might actually owe. Yes, so it is good to mention that actually owe. Yes, so it is good to mention that the actually owe. Yes, so it is good to mention that the actual actually owe. Yes, so it is good to mention that the actual student i actually owe. Yes, so it is good to i mention that the actual Student Loan System is pretty complicated for a lot of people. Its quite difficult to understand how it all works. Now, the reason why we are seeing the rise in rates effective from september this year is because of the retail price index. So inflation has been going up, rpi is one measure of inflation from the other being the Consumer Price index, cpi. The rpi is usually at a higher rate than the cpi, and for some students, for some graduates, their rate of interest is charged is based on consolation, given that the rpi rate is plus 3 . At the time of speaking with you, the rpi rate stands at 9 . The cpi rate stands at 7 , then 9 plus the additional 3 , you get that 12 Headline Number that you mentioned earlier. So there is that intervening between september and february next year, where the cap kicks and where potentially for high earning graduates, quite a lot of them stand to earn and incur more of interest on their Student Loans. 50. Interest on their Student Loans. So, with that, im interest on their Student Loans. So, with that, im just thinking off a student, talk us through perhaps whether it will be something that is going to take them much longer to pay off or that each instalment will be much more expensive. Im also thinking about thejobs be much more expensive. Im also thinking about the jobs that they might get after they graduate, of course, they may be very worried about exactly what they can afford. So it is worth mentioning that when students have Student Loans, they actually dont stop earning those until they are beyond a particular threshold, so for the people who earn the beyond that, 9 of anything above that amount is what you then set to repay on annual basis and so on, the more you earn, the more you essentially pay, and if you dont earn above that threshold to me dont pay anything back. The reason why this particular piece of development really matters is that with such a high rate of interest, given the time we are in with rising costs and rising fuel costs and travel costs and prices and so on, it comes at a particularly bad time for a lot of people because for a lot of students and graduates and so on, it means essentially that a much higher level of interest is added to their already existing debt, its worth mentioning that only a fraction of the peoples Student Loan Debt actually get to repay their Student Loans in full over their careers for example or over their careers for example or over their working lives. Really, their careers for example or over theirworking lives. Really, its theirworking lives. Really, its the people who are the higher earners, people who are most likely to pay off their Student Loans over a 30 year period after they get wiped off effectively. Those people are the people who are likely to get hit the hardest because they are paying off their Student Loans in full, potentially over that period of time. I full, potentially over that period of time. ,. , of time. I understand. Let me broaden this of time. I understand. Let me broaden this also of time. I understand. Let me broaden this also because i of time. I understand. Let me broaden this also because it i of time. I understand. Let me i broaden this also because it brings up broaden this also because it brings up questions about the future of education in the uk, it talks about perhaps also access to education. Katie, how are you seeing this . I suppose really putting it in that broader context of The Cost Of Living in the future years. I mean, so on the living in the future years. I mean, so on the cost living in the future years. I mean, so on The Cost Of Living in the future years. I mean, so on The Cost Of Living, living in the future years. I mean, so on The Cost Of Living, i living in the future years. I mean, so on The Cost Of Living, i think i so on The Cost Of Living, i think that so on The Cost Of Living, i think that you so on The Cost Of Living, i think that you combine whats been laid out in that you combine whats been laid out in terms of the rise in the interest out in terms of the rise in the interest on out in terms of the rise in the interest on tuition fees and the fact that interest on tuition fees and the fact that we have a National Insurance hike, which hits the working insurance hike, which hits the working age of working people, and i think you working age of working people, and i think you can start to see how the conservative government can be quite easily conservative government can be quite easily criticised for not offering enough easily criticised for not offering enough to Younger Voters and actually enough to Younger Voters and actually those who are going out to work, actually those who are going out to work. The actually those who are going out to work, the older groups who are more asset work, the older groups who are more asset rich, work, the older groups who are more asset rich, for work, the older groups who are more asset rich, for example, if you look at National Asset rich, for example, if you look at National Insurance, that is to fund at National Insurance, that is to fund social at National Insurance, that is to fund social care. Now, eventually, that will fund social care. Now, eventually, that will help someone whos been graduated today, but there is a long way off that that policy is still in place way off that that policy is still in place so way off that that policy is still in place. So there is an intergenerational issue, and then i think intergenerational issue, and then i think if intergenerational issue, and then i think if you intergenerational issue, and then i think if you are just in terms of the governments education plans, we know this the governments education plans, we know this government is trying to make know this government is trying to make some people think twice about lloiii make some people think twice about going to make some people think twice about going to university and want to crackdown on the making mouse degrees crackdown on the making mouse degrees. Whether thats intentional, they might also be putting people off in they might also be putting people off in terms of the share price that you might off in terms of the share price that you might end up paying, once you have you might end up paying, once you have gone. Let you might end up paying, once you have gone have gone. Let me turn to you, Stephanie Have gone. Let me turn to you, stephanie. This have gone. Let me turn to you, stephanie. This is have gone. This is a Conversation Taking Place in the uk very much a paved young people, but they will be able to afford, will they ever be able to afford, will they ever be able to get on the housing that are . People staying at home and living with her parents for much longer than they would like to. Is that a conversation that is also taking place amongst young people, as we have seen, talking last night, 8. 5 was the rate of inflation in the us. Its a conversation thats happening in households across our country for a number of reasons. This latest generation is really asking the question, is this education really worth it . Am i getting a return on my investment . They have seen their parents be dragged down with the weights of Student Loan Debt. The parents of this generation have been impacted by Student Loan Debt more than any other generation, so they are asking those questions. Lots of private institutions, people are taking a pass at them and looking at more local schools, more inexpensive schools because they dont want their future to be compromised by their future to be compromised by the weight of Student Loans. If you think more generally about what Student Loans are present to people, for a lot of people. Are present to people, for a lot of people. Part of the reasoning for Vladimir Putins invasion of ukraine was to stop itjoining nato and to send a warning other nations tempted to join the alliance to tread carefully. But as the war continues in ukraine, countries are re evaluating how they position themselves post invasion. Working out who their friends are. And two of the countries facing Big Decisions are sweden and finland. And heres why in red you can see all the countries currently in nato. Moscow was clear that ukraine joining was a red line and Vladimir Putin has for years been firm that nato should be shrinking its membership, not increasing. But that has backfired sweden and finland are now considering joining nato and could do so in a matter of weeks. Swedish newspapers today are reporting that the Prime Minister has decided the country needs tojoin nato and it will do so in june. And next door in finland, its Government Produced a white paper today on the pros and cons of nato membership. The two Prime Ministers of those countries met today in stockholm here was what finnish Prime Minister sanna marin had to say. There are many risks, and we have to be prepared for all kinds of actions from russia. We have to make the decisions by ourselves, not to have Fear Influence our choices. I think we are making decisions far into the future, and we shouldnt be afraid in this stage to make the decisions. Joining me now is carl bildt former Prime Minister of sweden. Very welcome to the programme. How important do you think it is right now for finland and sweden to join nato . I now for finland and sweden to oin nato . , , now for finland and sweden to oin nato . ~ , ,. ,. , nato . I think it is very important. We are clearly nato . I think it is very important. We are clearly facing nato . I think it is very important. We are clearly facing a nato . I think it is very important. We are clearly facing a very i we are clearly facing a very different Security Situation after february 2a, that has led to this very profound soul searching debates both in finland and sweden where we are looking at the Security Situation very closely, looking at the alternatives, how we can be even more secure in this time of new dangers. And the reporters we mentioned, doesnt have any formal conclusion, but in reality, it moves in the direction of nato. The swedish process is some weeks behind, but we arrive at the same conclusion. And in all probability, that both applies to nato well before the nato summit at the end of june. ,. ,. ,. , before the nato summit at the end of june. ,. ,. ,. , june. How important is that for finland and june. How important is that for finland and sweden june. How important is that for finland and sweden to june. How important is that for finland and sweden to be i june. How important is that for i finland and sweden to be united in their membership . I finland and sweden to be united in their membership . Their membership . I think thats absolutely critical. Their membership . I think thats absolutely critical. The their membership . I think thats absolutely critical. The decision l their membership . I think thats i absolutely critical. The decision of finland has been difficult. Sweden was a neutral country in those years was a neutral country in those years was that we did not want to complicate the situation that finland had with the soviet union. If we lean too much to the west, thats a risk of the Soviet Union Leaning too heavily on finland. We are part of the same overall strategic environment. So i think they face the conviction of leading politicians in both countries that if we should move and we should, that we should do it together. [30 that we should do it together. Do ou that we should do it together. Do you worry, however, that it could be seen, your nato membership, using sweden, also finland, as a provocative move to president putin, and may be in danger the countrys security in any way. I and may be in danger the countrys security in any way. Security in any way. I hope it will be seen by security in any way. I hope it will be seen by mr security in any way. I hope it will be seen by mr putin security in any way. I hope it will be seen by mr putin that security in any way. I hope it will be seen by mr putin that we i security in any way. I hope it will| be seen by mr putin that we take security in any way. I hope it will be seen by mr putin that we take our situation and our security very seriously. That we understand that he launched upon something that he has said himself to the entire Security Order of europe. If he wants to reorder the security of europe according to his taste and inclinations and policies, we have to take that seriously. And we take the precautions have been necessary in order to safeguard ourselves against what mr putin has launched very explicitly. That against what mr putin has launched very explicitly very explicitly. That so interesting. Very explicitly. That so interesting. Let very explicitly. That so interesting. Let me i very explicitly. That so i interesting. Let me throw this very explicitly. That so interesting. Let me throw this over to you. What do you think . This is, i suppose, the opposite of what mr putin wanted. This is an expansion of nato, putin wanted. This is an expansion of nate, and that was the grounds he gave for invading ukraine. Yes. Of nato, and that was the grounds he gave for invading ukraine. Gave for invading ukraine. Yes, so does feel as gave for invading ukraine. Yes, so does feel as though gave for invading ukraine. Yes, so does feel as though he gave for invading ukraine. Yes, so does feel as though he is gave for invading ukraine. Yes, so does feel as though he is getting i does feel as though he is getting the opposite of what he wants, i dont the opposite of what he wants, i dont see the opposite of what he wants, i dont see how anyone could look at the situation in ukraine and take from the situation in ukraine and take from that that it is a good thing to not be from that that it is a good thing to not be a from that that it is a good thing to not be a member of nato. And therefore not be a member of nato. And therefore we are seeing what is happening in terms of all across europe happening in terms of all across europe generally, this rewriting of foreign europe generally, this rewriting of Foreign Policy or approaches to foreign Foreign Policy or approaches to Foreign Policy, and what will putin do in Foreign Policy, and what will putin do in the Foreign Policy, and what will putin do in the face of this in terms of finland do in the face of this in terms of finland and do in the face of this in terms of finland and sweden . I think its interesting there is talk of more russian interesting there is talk of more russian aggression, russian moving things russian aggression, russian moving things towards its borders in a way to transcend some warning signals. I think ultimately what we have seen in terms think ultimately what we have seen in terms of think ultimately what we have seen in terms of the horrific war crimes in terms of the horrific war crimes in ukraine in terms of the horrific war crimes in ukraine is in terms of the horrific war crimes in ukraine is that itsjust not, you in ukraine is that itsjust not, you know. In ukraine is that itsjust not, you know, the risk of putin doing something you know, the risk of putin doing something now or the risk of waiting, something now or the risk of waiting, i something now or the risk of waiting, i mean, neitherare particularly promising or attractive options. Particularly promising or attractive options, but i think generally speaking, there is a strong sense of being speaking, there is a strong sense of being in speaking, there is a strong sense of being in nato, and thats the best of those two options. The royal court ofjersey targeted Roman Abramovich today seizeing assets worth more than 7 billion. The authorities in jersey say the frozen assets are located either on the island or owned by entities incorporated there. And the french government seized i2 Luxury Properties belonging to the Russian Oligarch including a 120 million villa on the French Riviera that was once the holiday home of king edward viii. Thank you so much Forjoining Us on the context and helping us understand the nato membership potentially for finland and sweden. Thank you. Love and marriage its an institute you cant disparage. So sang Frank Sinatra in his classic song about that sacred institution. But in the real world, sometimes romantic love turns south. After all, sinatra himself got divorced three times. And so family lawyer Katie Leonard took it upon herself to tell the world via tiktok which professions women should avoid when seeking a spouse. Lets hear a little of katies now viral video. When i first started practising family law 13 years ago, a woman attorney, i think a statistic about the top five professions of men that women should avoid marrying. I thought, well, thats a really random thing too, you know, i think about. How would you even get that kind of statistic . But its stuck in my head, and over the crest of my career, ive watched my most difficult cases, and shockingly, many of them involve men in these five professions. So lets kill the suspense what are those five professions you should be avoiding in a spouse . Katie leonard joins us now. Lots of people had similar stories to my clients. So that was validating for my clients. They are people who obviously had hurt feelings and, you know, dont categorise us all like that, im not like this, plenty of women that said that my husband does not like this and we have been married for years and we have been married for years and years. Thank you so much to katie, stephanie and also to katie joining us here in the context and to you for watching. I will see you tomorrow. Goodbye. Hello. Well, wednesday was somewhat of a mixed bag, with a few heavy showers in the midlands and lincolnshire in particular. Lets see what the next few days are going to bring. And certainly warmer weather on the way, but also a fair amount of cloud and, again, a few showers, particularly across Western Areas of the uk. Now, this is our air mass graphic, or the temperature of the atmosphere, if you like, and you can see these warmer southerly winds pushing in the milder conditions across many parts of western and central europe. And that does mean that temperatures could reach 20 degrees come good friday across the south east of the uk. But heres the short term, then, and early on thursday, we could see a lot of cloud across the uk, but that will give way to sunny spells across many parts of england and wales. Out towards the north west, though, its always going to be more cloudy, cooler conditions only 13 to 15 degrees, whereas weve got 17 to 19 further south east. Now, the following night, so thursday night into friday, again, shows a fair amount of cloud across Western Areas, some clear spells for central and eastern parts of the uk. And early in the morning on friday, again, relatively mild 6 in aberdeen, 9 degrees in plymouth. But some of these western coasts will always be murky, misty and perhaps drizzly in places. And thats because a Weather Front is almost stalling here out towards the west. It cant really make much progress further east because of the High Pressure which is across scandinavia. So were kind of stuck between a high the east of us and low pressure, with more rain bearing clouds although not an awful lot of it further towards the west. That does mean cooler and cloudier conditions again for Northern Ireland, irish sea coasts, wales, on friday. But up to 20 degrees and sunny spells on good friday in london. And that Weather Front out towards the west will eventually fizzle away, or at least most of it, as we head into saturday. There still will be some light rain around, i think, for parts of scotland, maybe these western extremities, and probably more especially in Northern Ireland. But further east and south east, the drier and brighter itll be. But the temperatures . I think were getting to around 18 in london, mid teens for the most part on saturday. So a decent enough day, with light winds and some sunny spells. Now, on saturday and sunday, or rather saturday night, that High Pressure slips away towards the east, and it does give way to this more unsettled atlantic weather, and you get that sense of the wind direction starting to change, more rain bearing clouds approaching ireland on saturday, and perhaps reaching some Western Areas of the uk as well. So i think slightly cooler here on sunday itself, best temperatures and best sunny spells out towards the east. Then, basically monday and next week, well see this low pressure establishing itself very close to the uk, and the weather will turn unsettled. So that High Pressure, by that stage, will have long shifted away towards the east, whereas further towards the west, the low pressure is dominating. And that also means that well see cooler air mixing in. You can see these cooler north westerly winds blowing in off the atlantic. At times, well see easterlies as well, basically this circulation means that the temperatures will ease. And this is the outlook for next week. So, from monday onwards, you can see a fair amount of cloud. Were no longer seeing those temperatures in excess of 20 degrees celsius, its certainly closer to the seasonal norm around 15 in the south of the uk, and closer to 12 further north. Bye bye. Tonight at ten. Were live in ukraine, as the focus of the fighting reaches the east. Could the siege of mariupol be nearing its end . Russias stranglehold on the city tightens. They mayor says 120,000 people are still trapped as Russian Forces prepare to step up their eastern campaign. The russians are that way. About four or five the russians are that way. About four orfive miles the russians are that way. About four or five miles from the russians are that way. About four orfive miles from here. Within artillery range. And as President Biden accuses russia of genocide, we report from the town of bucha, where a team of investigators look for potential evidence of war crimes. Also on the programme tonight.
