quite breezy across the north of scotland, with further rain moving in. the clearest skies of south and east, and here temperatures will fall lowest, they could be a touch of frost for parts of east anglia and southern england as well. through the day tomorrow, a little more in the way of cloud compared to today, but a lot of dry weather still due to this area of high pressure that is driving our weather. we have got a weather front producing more of that rain across the north and north—west of scotland where it will still be breezy tomorrow. elsewhere, largely dry, a few spots around northwest coast and hills but more sunshine in eastern areas, highs up to about 17 across the east of scotland with a little bit of the foehn effect there. and then the ms changes after a couple of days saturday night into sunday, things will be turning significantly colder. huw. many thanks. we will be back here at ten. now it is time to join many thanks. we will be back here at ten. now it is time tojoin our good evening and welcome to sportsday with me, john watson. a watershed moment. azeem rafiq speaks of his determination to bring about change after his harrowing evidence to mps yesterday. the road to qatar — who's in and who's out? look, obviously, the experiences yesterday wasn't the first time they've heard it. they've had good notice of it for over a year now. i think we've heard a lot of stuff from the ecb in terms of pr initiatives and a lot of lawful, in my opinion. he said yesterday about making of change —— a load of waffle. it's probably a few months before we see changes, and if it's not something that changes, i think the patients is run i'm very determined that this will be looked back on as the normal way, but society as a whole went in a different direction. i society as a whole went in a different direction.- society as a whole went in a different direction. i know you said ou don't different direction. i know you said you don't want _ different direction. i know you said you don't want the _ different direction. i know you said you don't want the focus _ different direction. i know you said you don't want the focus to - different direction. i know you said you don't want the focus to be - you don't want the focus to be on individuals with the wider issue, but what do you think should happen to some of those players, past and present, who said things that were unacceptable. ? "his evidence at the select committee was harrowing, "and this must be a turning point for our game. "we utterly condemn racism or discrimination of any kind "and there is no place for it in our game. "we are thoroughly investigating these events and will take "the necessary action." that they will be expected to do. statement from the ecb in light of azeem rafiq's evidence. now, it's been a week in which we've seen england qualify for the world cup in qatar next year, scotland and wales secure home ties and a seeded spot in the play—offs. austin halewood is with me. austin, bring us up to date with where we're at on the road to qatar. plenty to dissect. give us a sense of where were at. it's almost a year to go until the 2022 world cup kicks off in qatar, and, as you say, john, qualifying in europe came to a close last night. england and reigning champions france are two of the teams who've qualified already. so, here's the full list of teams who'll be booking their flights to qatar from europe. there are ten of them who've made it through, the likes of belgium and spain there as well, but as you can probably already see, there are a few big names missing from that list. they've all gone into the play—offs, which take place in march next year. so, there are 12 teams in the play—offs. six of them are unseeded, which means all of these teams will have to travel for their semifinal — while the other six, the seeded teams, will all be playing at home. but from all of that 12, only three will make it to the world cup. now, the draw for the play—offs will be made next friday, the 26th of november. so, let's have a closer look at some of those seeded teams. some will be delighted with this and some will be devastated. let's start with the positives, and last night for wales, they were taking on the world's number one ranked side, belgium, in cardiff last night, and despite going i—nil down, this goal from kieffer moore gave them a precious point that proved to be enough to give them that crucial home semifinal. here's their head coach, rob page. it means now we've finished second. when our fans are rocking like they were tonight in the last two games, we'll go up against anybody at home, honestly we will. like i said, we respect the teams but we don't fear anybody, and bring it on. bring it on indeed. yeah, it means wales are now two games away from a first world cup since 1958. now, scotland are another one of the seeded teams. they've won all of their last six matches to book a home semifinal. that's their best winning run since the *305. but now to the teams who aren't as pleased with going through the play—offs — cristiano ronaldo's portugal. they conceded in the 90th minute against serbia this week, and that dropped them into the play—offs. but most surprising of all is italy. just four months ago, they were crowned european champions at wembley, but a nil—nil draw to northern ireland later, and they're facing the very real possibility, john, of not making the world cup, just like they did four years ago. all their fans will question how they got themselves in that. astonishing. we know the european qualification is finished, not necessarily the case elsewhere. well, all the other federations aren't as far along as they are in europe, so there are only three other teams who've guaranteed their place. qatar are one of them as hosts, of course, with brazil and argentina having qualified from south america so far. brazil qualifying with six games left to play at the time, too. now, qualifying for all the other federations continues in the new year, but these are just a few things to watch out for. as things stand, the likes of canada from north america, iran from asian qualifying and mo salah*s egypt from africa, all stand a good chance of making the world cup. so, 13 spots are taken already, john, with 19 still to be filled early next year. yeah, i suppose is comforting for those teams who are already there. fingers crossed for wales and scotland. often, thanks very much. dean smith has told the norwich fans he can keep the club in the premier league. having returned to managementjust a week after quite breezy across the north of scotland, with further rain moving in. the clearest skies of south and east, and here temperatures will fall lowest, they could be a touch of frost for parts of east anglia and southern england as well. through the day tomorrow, a little more in the way of cloud compared to today, but a lot of dry weather still due to this area of high pressure that is driving our weather. we have got a weather front producing more of that rain across the north and north—west of scotland where it will still be breezy tomorrow. elsewhere, largely dry, a few spots around northwest coast and hills but more sunshine in eastern areas, highs up to about 17 across the east of scotland with a little bit of the foehn effect there. and then the ms changes after a couple of days saturday night into sunday, things will be turning significantly colder. huw. many thanks. we will be back here at ten. now it is time to join many thanks. we will be back here at ten. now it is time tojoin our good evening and welcome to sportsday with me, john watson. a watershed moment. azeem rafiq speaks of his determination to bring about change after his harrowing evidence to mps yesterday. the road to qatar — who's in and who's out? look, obviously, the experiences yesterday wasn't the first time they've heard it. they've had good notice of it for over a year now. i think we've heard a lot of stuff from the ecb in terms of pr initiatives and a lot of lawful, in my opinion. he said yesterday about making of change —— a load of waffle. it's probably a few months before we see changes, and if it's not something that changes, i think the patients is run i'm very determined that this will be looked back on as the normal way, but society as a whole went in a different direction. i society as a whole went in a different direction.- society as a whole went in a different direction. i know you said ou don't different direction. i know you said you don't want _ different direction. i know you said you don't want the _ different direction. i know you said you don't want the focus _ different direction. i know you said you don't want the focus to - different direction. i know you said you don't want the focus to be - you don't want the focus to be on individuals with the wider issue, but what do you think should happen to some of those players, past and present, who said things that were unacceptable. ? "his evidence at the select committee was harrowing, "and this must be a turning point for our game. "we utterly condemn racism or discrimination of any kind "and there is no place for it in our game. "we are thoroughly investigating these events and will take "the necessary action." that they will be expected to do. statement from the ecb in light of azeem rafiq's evidence. now, it's been a week in which we've seen england qualify for the world cup in qatar next year, scotland and wales secure home ties and a seeded spot in the play—offs. austin halewood is with me. austin, bring us up to date with where we're at on the road to qatar. plenty to dissect. give us a sense of where were at. it's almost a year to go until the 2022 world cup kicks off in qatar, and, as you say, john, qualifying in europe came to a close last night. england and reigning champions france are two of the teams who've qualified already. so, here's the full list of teams who'll be booking their flights to qatar from europe. there are ten of them who've made it through, the likes of belgium and spain there as well, but as you can probably already see, there are a few big names missing from that list. they've all gone into the play—offs, which take place in march next year. so, there are 12 teams in the play—offs. six of them are unseeded, which means all of these teams will have to travel for their semifinal — while the other six, the seeded teams, will all be playing at home. but from all of that 12, only three will make it to the world cup. now, the draw for the play—offs will be made next friday, the 26th of november. so, let's have a closer look at some of those seeded teams. some will be delighted with this and some will be devastated. let's start with the positives, and last night for wales, they were taking on the world's number one ranked side, belgium, in cardiff last night, and despite going i—nil down, this goal from kieffer moore gave them a precious point that proved to be enough to give them that crucial home semifinal. here's their head coach, rob page. it means now we've finished second. when our fans are rocking like they were tonight in the last two games, we'll go up against anybody at home, honestly we will. like i said, we respect the teams but we don't fear anybody, and bring it on. bring it on indeed. yeah, it means wales are now two games away from a first world cup since 1958. now, scotland are another one of the seeded teams. they've won all of their last six matches to book a home semifinal. that's their best winning run since the *305. but now to the teams who aren't as pleased with going through the play—offs — cristiano ronaldo's portugal. they conceded in the 90th minute against serbia this week, and that dropped them into the play—offs. but most surprising of all is italy. just four months ago, they were crowned european champions at wembley, but a nil—nil draw to northern ireland later, and they're facing the very real possibility, john, of not making the world cup, just like they did four years ago. all their fans will question how they got themselves in that. astonishing. we know the european qualification is finished, not necessarily the case elsewhere. well, all the other federations aren't as far along as they are in europe, so there are only three other teams who've guaranteed their place. qatar are one of them as hosts, of course, with brazil and argentina having qualified from south america so far. brazil qualifying with six games left to play at the time, too. now, qualifying for all the other federations continues in the new year, but these are just a few things to watch out for. as things stand, the likes of canada from north america, iran from asian qualifying and mo salah*s egypt from africa, all stand a good chance of making the world cup. so, 13 spots are taken already, john, with 19 still to be filled early next year. yeah, i suppose is comforting for those teams who are already there. fingers crossed for wales and scotland. often, thanks very much. dean smith has told the norwich fans he can keep the club in the premier league. having returned to managementjust a week after he was sacked by aston villa, he believes there's enough quality in the squad to keep them up. ifi if i thought it was a risk, i wouldn't _ if i thought it was a risk, i wouldn't have taken it. i other stories. championship club reading have been deducted six points by the english football league for breaching financial rules. they lost over £55 million between 2017 and 2021. the efl*s limit is 39 million. the club have a further six—point deduction suspended until the end of next season. south africa's director of rugby, rassie erasmus, has been banned from all rugby activity for two months for making an hour—long video criticising officials. he made the video afterjuly*s defeat in the first test against the british and irish lions. a real coup for sale sharks, who've signed england fly half george ford from rivals leicester. he called his decision to leave at the end of the season the "most difficult of his career". leicester have won eight from eight so far and top the
