hundreds of teachers have been targeted in recent weeks by pupils who've anonymously made abusive videos on the social media platform tiktok. some teachers have been accused of being paedophiles or subjected to homophobic comments. schools are now calling on tiktok to take urgent action to remove what they say is disgraceful abuse of teachers online. tiktok says it is deploying additional measures to detect and remove offensive content and regrets upset caused to teachers. but teaching unions say it's not being done fast enough. 0ur education correspondent elaine dunkley has more. tiktok, a social media platform where people can create and share funny and quirky content, but there is a darker side to one of the latest trends. targeting teachers with abusive and offensive videos. this one shows tom rogers, a history teacher, posted from an anonymous account and viewed thousands of times. there were two videos using a derogatory term to describe someone who was inappropriate towards children. you are thinking when you go in there that kids are laughing at you and whatever and everyone�*s seen it, so i have messaged tiktok, didn't get a reply, the videos are still there. there could be something tragic happen, and it's only then that something will have to be done. we had a number of staff who have been impacted by this and who are off currently. many schools across the uk have sent letters to parents warning them about schoolchildren creating and sharing videos targeting teachers. seen by, in one case, 2 million viewers... at the ellesmere port church of england college there have been a number of incidents. we are working with a number of staff at the moment who are finding it difficult to cope. we know that the children who have posted the videos, we're working with their families to make sure they understand what they've done wrong. bodies like tiktok must make sure that they can police this a bit better. you can take three separate resistors... these sixth formers say everyone in school has a responsibility to stop online bullying. when i first saw them, my first response was to report it. report it as, like, bullying and harassment. some of the videos you see are just literal attacks on one individual. i know one teacher- has been affected the most. i haven't seen him around school since the incident. | in a statement, tiktok says its community guidelines make clear that it doesn't tolerate content that contains bullying or harassment. statements targeting an individual or hateful speech or behaviour, and will remove content that violates these guidelines. but teaching unions say videos are not being taken down quickly enough. tiktok is living in a parallel universe, frankly. they are not taking this issue seriously, they're not giving a sense of urgency, and they're definitely not recognising that they should be taking responsibility to help us adults educate young people about how you conduct coming from those photographs was dripping onto our table. we didn't think too much of it. and then the symptoms started at about 1130. by sunday night, i was in pretty bad shape. i felt really weak, and that evening i started having diarrhoea every 15 minutes. i told my husband, i think i'm not in a good place, i think i should go to the hospital. the nurse practitioner called and said i had no virus and e. coli toxicity, and i was basically poisoned from sewage water. —— norovirus. here i was, 2021, and sick from exposure to sewage water. next door, my neighbour said her son had experienced symptoms and was sick for about three days. another neighbour, two houses away, she is 77, she had similar symptoms. a neighbour across the way said he felt the same way. by saturday, nobody had come from sanitation. just give me a moment. that is a difficult part, losing all these photos i ended up throwing out. i had saved some of the children's toys. some of their books. and, i guess, those want regulated, because they didn't provide sufficient means for egress, sufficient means for people to escape and an emergency. affordable housing is the big issue in new york city, it is a desperately needed part of the city environment here. for undocumented or immigrant population, there is a problem with earning enough income, because they often find jobs that aren't at an hourly rate that aren't at an hourly rate that would provide enough money for housing. consequently, they have to double up or tripling up have to double up or tripling up in housing accommodations. when climate disasters hits, they make an already strained society that much harder. for people, people of colour in new york city generally don't have the wealth and social power to easily bounce back from a climate disaster. ida was a different type of storm, it didn't push up sea levels, rather, it dumped down an incredible amount of rain very rapidly, and that also flooded the subways, it flooded peoples basements. ifeelan the subways, it flooded peoples basements. i feel an incredible responsibility to get our decision—makers — corporations and government — to slash pollution because i know that the place i grew up in will not survive. my my officers response preparing the city for the impacts of climate change. the inequities of these particular storms, because it was, in most cases, immigrants trapped in the basement apartments during the storm and whether one that lost their lives. it also underscored, for me, how our affordable housing crisis coming into direct tension with our work on climate resiliency. one of the challenges that we face is that most of the federal dollars that can be invested into resiliency measures are triggered after an extreme event. the tax dollars just don't go there. — the tax dollars just don't go there, they don't go where they need _ there, they don't go where they need to— there, they don't go where they need to go to make sure that low income and middle—class homeowners like ourselves are safe _ safe. the safe. — the infrastructure of new york city needs to be modernised, and i think ida underscored that, in particular alice river system was built for conditions that we experienced 100 years ago. there is no amount of sewer system upgrades or or resiliency improvements that will protect the city from the amount of affected by it ida right after the storm, and it was extremely sad. it was tragic. a family had drowned in a basement apartment on a street that had flooded over and over and over again without the city doing anything to improve the infrastructure over the last two decades. i certainly hope that in the future we will be able to prevent deaths and basement units through better notification and ensuring that basement units are safe and resilient to the impacts of extreme precipitation. where those debts preventable? i think those deaths would have been preventable had we had better forecasting, better notification, and had... do do i say this? i think i'm to leave my answer where it was, what i said about the future. we are responsible for the safety of everybody in the city. it is our responsibility, so we felt terrible. the storm are changed so quickly, honestly. the amount of rain that we received was much more significant in a short period of time than we ever imagined. all cities are unprepared for the climate eventualities. now we have to act to protect our citizens, and that means more funding for cities and other areas around, notjust around the united states, but around the united states, but around the world. when i saw everything submerged in water, i was heartbroken. i felt like i was homeless again, that i had to start over again. it was well to see backyard flooded, which subsequently caused our indoor dining space to flood. we had about 3.5 feet of water, almost four feet. the water receded at about three am it was a cleanup, just pulling
