hello and welcome to newswatch with me samira ahmed. after criticism that its impartiality was compromised why has the bbc left the diversity student stonewall? and here, the focus in london at the cenotaph... and should the two minute silence on armistice day be matched by silence from the presenter during last post that precedes it? first, the eyes of many were in glasgow again this week as the delegates of the cop26 climate conference continue to try and hammer out a deal. attention was particularly focused on monday when former us president barack obama came to town. back in 2015 we knew that even if the commitments made by the paris agreement were fully met, we would still fall short of our goal of keeping global temperature increases below 1.5 celsius. there's president obama, former president obama of the united states talking about climate change in glasgow at cop26, saying more needs to be done both collectively and individually. the new chairman of yorkshire county cricket club is holding a press conference at headingley this afternoon. roy dearden did not agree with the editorial decision to cut away from president obama's speech, asking... on last week's newswatch, we heard from some of you who questioned the cost to the environment of the trips made to glasgow for that conference by london—based bbc journalists. but if those journeys caused damage to the planet they pales into insignificance compared to that of the bbc*s climate editorjustin rolat, who popped up last friday not in glasgow but alaska. alaska isn'tjust struggling to cope with its new climate reality on the coast. a century ago the glacier came all the way down here, the entire valley was frozen. as it recently as the *80s they built his visitor centre because you could still see the glacier in the valley. since then it has completely retreated around the corner and you can't see it at all. neil mckay contacted us to say... well, whenjustin appeared on this programme a couple of years ago i asked him what the justification was for a correspondent covering climate in the environment to be flying to far—flung places for hisjob, and this is what he had to say. i'll be travelling by plane not for leisure, but for work. i think it's important in my work as an environment correspondent that i do travel around the world and seal the world is changing and bring home to the audiences that bbc has around the world the changes made. if you want to know, over the next couple months i'm going to india, ethiopia and antarctica. which means going to new zealand. huge journeys around the world, but i would say they're justified because we have to report this crucial subject. and if i do it all from the uk it simply isn't can have the impact. the lgbtq+ charity stonewall runs a diversity champion programme whose members pay for advice and assessments of creating inclusive workplaces. up until this week the bbc was signed up to the scheme raising questions among some as to whether stonewall had too much influence over the corporations coverage of gender issues and whether it's journalist could report could report on stonewall itself in an impartial manner. along those raising these questions is stephen nolan, the bbc northern ireland and radio five live presenter who puts out a podcast series on the subject. on wednesday the bbc became the latest high profile employer to announce it was leaving the scheme. a move applauded by lisa buchanan. we asked to talk to someone from the bbc about this decision, but no—one was available. we hope to have that discussion on the programme at some point in the next few weeks. in the meantime, here's part of the statement the bbc put out. do let us know your thoughts on any of the topics we covered in today's programme. details of how to contact us at the end of the programme. and if you'd like to record a video or come on newswatch to make your point, so much the better. now for some of your other comments this week. at 11:00 on the 11th day on the 11th month, the end of the first world war is commemorated with two minutes of silence. and the bbc marked that silence on thursday. but beforehand, showed this. last post plays. and here, the focus in london at the cenotaph. the duchess of cornwall is at the 93rd field of remembrance at the westminster abbey. last post plays. well, lindsay williams thought it... we asked bbc news for a statement in response to that point, and they told us... the sports section in last saturday nights bbc one news bulletin was fairly typical, encompassing cricket, football and rugby union. now with all the day's sport... hi clive, england's cricketers have qualified for the semifinals of the men t20 world cup despite losing today's game against south africa by ten runs. susie, who described herself as the mother role models, was watching that and sent us this e—mail. retailers have been spending more and more money over recent years on lavish tv advertisements in the build—up to christmas. and at the end of last week, as the news at six reported, two high street giants released their offerings for this year. there are 51 days left until christmas, and after last year's was all but cancelled retailers are hoping for better business over the next few weeks. they have been warnings about possible supply shortages with shoppers urged by their presence early. today two of the big hitters, john lewis and marks & spencer, released their christmas ads to try to boost business. this was the response from rosie nicole—harper. finally, on monday, a distressing video emerged of a member of a hunt hitting and kicking a horse. we are not going to show any upsetting images now, but it was discussed that morning by victoria derbyshire on the news channel. and we're going to talk to our correspondent about it. sean, you are blind so you had this described to you. i have. if we pop it up on screen now this 27 second clip was posted to twitter by the hertfordshire hunt saboteurs on sunday for that— will give an audio description for those who may not be able to see the video. sean later explained on social media that his audio description of the video was for the benefit of anyone who can't see the screen and struggled to see the screen. this is what inclusion looks like, he went on. it means we reached audiences we would otherwise miss. it was a step applauded by mojo abedi, who wrote... thank you for all your comments this week. if you have anything to say about what you see, hear or read on bbc news on tv, radio, online and social media you can e—mail newswatch. or find us on twitter. you can call us, and do have a look at our website for previous interviews. that's all from us, we will be back to hear your thoughts about bbc news coverage again next week. goodbye. hello, well, the weekend is not looking bad at all for most of us. it's going be milder, a fair amount of cloud, i think i'm but some of us will have some decent spells of sunshine. let's have a look at the here and now and skies of cleared in some spots across scotland, certainly eastern and southern scotland in some areas for the self. generally, a loss of cloud to start the day in really mild, at least to just ten or 11 degrees of this time of year, early in the morning it should be around five degrees so we are well above the average. and it's going to be mild by day too. i think the best chance of some sunshine across central areas of the uk certainly southern scotland and the lay district, lancashire, parts of the midlands too. 14 the top temperature in london, will probably match that in belfast too. scotland will be closer to ii or 12, how about the outlook was back remember, it is sunday. not much change on monday, tuesday or indeed, wednesday. this is bbc news with me, alice baxter. our top stories: a last push for a meaningful agreement. cop26 continues talks into saturday. the man in charge calls for a "can—do spirit". we have come a long way over the past two weeks and now, we need that final injection of that can—do spirit which is present at this cop, so that we get this shared endeavour over the line. trump ally steve bannon, indicted on two counts of contempt of congress over the investigation into the attack on the capitol. hundreds of migrants trapped on the belarus border in the middle of a political stand—off.
