language in a board meeting in 2017. faragher strongly denies the allegation but essex say they'll investigate why the matter was not fully and independently investigated at the time. faragher stood down from his post following a board meeting yesterday. essex say "there's no place for discrimination of any kind at the club." this comes in the wake of the racism scandal at yorkshire which led to a number of resignations. here's our senior sports news reporter laura scott i think what it will show too many people is that this isn't an issue confined to yorkshire. and many people had suspected that over the last week that this was unlikely to be just an issue at yorkshire. yesterday, i spoke to the england captain, joe root, over in australia, and he said that every county needed to look at its processes, at its culture and work out if improvements needed to be made. of course, we know that the ecb is looking at this issue as well. of course, it will be of concern to the governing body that another county has now become engulfed in a race is an issue. —— county has now become engulfed in a racism issue. meanwhile, yorkshire county cricket club have announced that an independent that was the main thing, for me. writing behind the team and witnessing a performance from scotland that five years ago would have lost that game, and that is quite simply showing the development of the site, shows where they have come from and shows where they have come from and shows where they can go to, this is the next test, the consistency of scottish rugby over the years has been that we can win a game and we pack it up. and this will be a huge test at the weekend to see if we can do that. what do you make of the team selection? a few surprises in there, considering he has played player on his day. i think he has to play. greg has made a decision mainly based around his lack of game time and the impact they can potentially make off the bench. so he starts a guy who's been brilliant for scotland when he plays, they played in paris when they went over there, and a different position this weekend, but there is real depth to the squad now, and that's one of the few changes that i think will have an impact, it could be that hamish comes off the bench and makes a huge impact, but matt has gone again at centre, a bit more creative than sam johnson and how he does about order to get the belief, scotland have got a great site, great strength and depth, but in order to give yourself that belief going into the world cup, you need to win game after game to win the title. you have to be beating the bigger sites. they've beaten england and france away during the six nations. they've got another six nations coming upjust around the corner. they need to be south africa on ireland's women face the usa in a test match tonight in what will be an historic occasion. it's the first time that a women's international has been staged at the rds. scotland will have to wait until sunday to face japan — while tomorrow wales take on south africa who've made seven changes from their opening test. there is going to be a different challenge read japan hold onto the ball for long phase as, which challenges defensively, which i thought we were very good at, but this week is going to be a lower phase game of defence with a different challenge from the kicking game, so the backfield has got to be sharp. meanwhile's england's women captain sarah hunter insists the team will not become complacent — after back to back wins against new zealand. hunter is one of seven changes that coach simon middleton has made to the side for sunday's match against canada. there will also be debuts given to sadia kabeya and heather cowell, whilst abbie ward and poppy cleall are in line to win their 50th caps. we are very strict with ourselves about what the outcome is and what that processes and not to let the fact that we have had two amazing games so far distract us from that. the group is really good about that and certainly not get complacent by anything at all, because of how driven we are as a playing squad. a quick look now at the other sports news making headlines today. frank lampard has dropped out of the running to become the new norwich manager. lampard had been in talks about succeeding daniel farke at carrow road but won't be taking charge. norwich have also spoken to former aston villa manager dean smith. it's been confirmed manchester united will play their first women's super league game in front of fans at old trafford next year, against everton. united played west ham at old trafford last season, but covid restrictions meant the game took place behind closed doors. and tommy fleetwood and paul waring are the best placed british players at the halfway stage of the dubai championship. they're both on 12 under par, three shots behind the leader, antoine rozner of france. there's been another blow to lewis hamilton's formula one title defence.. this time an engine change, his fifth this season, has led to a five place grid penalty. that means he'll be unable to start the sao paulo grand prix from higher than sixth on sunday. earlier i spoke to our formula one reporterjennie gow. well, mercedes have been plagued with issues, that's the internal combustion engine from a debate that powers the car. it's been a problem all season, and they have just had to take another one for lewis hamilton. now, for each extra ice you take to make it a penalty of five places. so in short, lewis hamilton, no matter where he qualifies will start five places back from that. and in his race against max for stop could be crucial. he trails the dutchman by 19 points, which for races to go. obviously, this is a decision not made lightly, this is tactical. they felt that they have to do it. this weekend is arguably going to be about damage limitation. absolutely. once auain, about damage limitation. absolutely. once lewis hamilton second again this weekend in brazil, they would be pretty happy with that. and whilst it would mean that the point swing would take them out of control of his own championship and would mean that even if you win every race still remaining, he couldn't win the title. i think that is the best they can hope for this weekend. i title. i think that is the best they can hope for this gin on lime, on your right, blackmore was second coming to this fence when both horses came down. she somehow managed to stay in the saddle and recovered to go on and win the race — ahead of the favourite my drogo who is fine following this fall. blackmore was crowned the leading jockey at the cheltenham festival back in march as well as winning the grand national this year and once again showed her class at prestbury park. —— jockey rachel blackmore. in the last two minutes, scotland have confirmed their place in the world cup playoffs. they have 12—0 way to moldova and a qualifier. the scots did survive some early pressure from the mouth opens, but they went ahead after half an hour with nathan patterson's first goal for his country. scott and simply dominated after that, the second tab shea adams doubled their lead. moldova did look to be back in the match with a penalty, but that was saved by craig gordon. a victory seal second place in the group, and that playoff place for next year's world cup in qatar. england, of course, will look to qualify with a win as well tonight, and if other results go their way is welcome that match against albania is at quarter to eight p:m.. now, that's all from sports day. enjoy the rest of your evening. good night. good evening. it's been quite a breezy day out there today. outbreaks of rain for many of us, and also still mild for the time of year. those stronger winds brought some big waves to the coast. —— outbreaks of rain for many of us, and also still mild for the time of year. but those stronger winds brought some big waves to the coast — this was aberystwyth a little bit earlier on. the winds are now tending to ease, and things look a bit quieter through the course of the weekend as low pressures clears away. still very mild for the time of year and mainly dry on both saturday and sunday, too. here's the low pressure that brought the showery rain at times today, and the breeze, as well, which is clearing off towards the east. as it does so, then higher pressure will start to build in from the west. so still a few splashes of rain overnight for eastern scotland, some central, southern and eastern parts of england, as well. but most places dry, some clearer spells for southwest scotland into northwest england — and it's here that temperatures will fall down into mid—single figures. but most of us remain in double figures — so a frost—free, mild, if somewhat cloudy start to your weekend. so saturday then, still quite a breeze around the east coast, perhaps a few spots of rain for the likes of aberdeenshire, east anglia, and the far southeast, too, and we've also got a bit more cloud working in for southwest england, wales, and northern ireland. but, in between these two areas of cloud, some sunshine through central scotland, northwest england, and the midlands right down towards the likes of the isle of wight. temperatures 10—15 celsius — so at least 3—4 degrees above average. so as we move through saturday night now and on into sunday, we've got high pressure not far away sitting both to the southwest and to the east of the uk. so this approaching weather front bumps into all that high pressure that's around. it doesn't make inroads too quickly for remembrance sunday, a lot of dry weather on sunday. a bit of sunshine breaking through the cloud, but generally a fairly cloudy picture for many of us, but light winds and very mild, as well, so quite a pleasant day with temperatures between 10—14 celsius. we have got that rain arriving in the northwest later on. so, as we head through remembrance sunday night and on into monday, that weather front pushes a bit further south, but it fizzles out as it does so. could bring a few splashes of rain monday morning to southern scotland, perhaps northern england, as well. a return to some sunshine for northern ireland and scotland, the north of that front stays a bit further cloudier south and east. still reasonably mild, 10—14 celsius as we head through monday afternoon. so certainly mild and settled for the next few days. things do turn a little bit cooler and more unsettled into the middle of this coming week. that's it for now, bye—bye. this is bbc news. i'm shaun ley. the headlines at 7pm... negotiations go into overtime at the cop26 climate summit in glasgow, with a draught deal but no final agreement on how countries will tackle rising global temperatures. climate activists pile on the pressure, while the president of the summit calls for one last push to reach a deal. we have come a long way over the past two weeks. and now, we need that final injection of that can—do spirit which is present at this cop so that we get this shared endeavour over the line. delegates from the most vulnerable island nations say success in glasgow is a matter of life and death. our safety, the safety- of my children and yours,
