celsius, around six or seven degrees warmer than it should be at this time of year. you can see the extent of the cloud on the satellite picture. we have some breaks, but the thickest cloud for northern ireland and scotland has been bringing rain, and that will be with us into the weekend as well. south of that, away from the band of rain, thick enough clout to bring some rain or drizzle overnight and i think there will be mist and fog patches. some of these could be quite dense across england and wales on friday but it will be a mild start of the morning. through friday, as the weather front continues to bring rain, mist and fog patches could be slow to clear and i suspect there will be drizzle for a time but we should start to see sunny spells break through the cloud and in the sunshine temperatures again way above average for the time of year, reaching highs up for the time of year, reaching highs up to 21 degrees. even where it stays cloudy, temperatures into the high teens as a minimum. here is the weather front high teens as a minimum. here is the weatherfront still high teens as a minimum. here is the weather front still bringing rain across scotland and northern ireland, but otherwise we should start to see some sunny spells come through as we head into the afternoon. temperatures are still high teens to low 20s across england and wales but we are starting to see fresher air moving and that will be coming to all parts of the uk as we head through the second part of the weekend and into next week as well. that's all from the bbc news at six so it's goodbye from me, and on bbc one we nowjoin the bbc*s news teams where you are. hello, i'm 0lly foster, here's what's coming up on sportsday this evening. new owners at newcastle united, the takeover is complete, we'll be live at st james' shortly. we'll also head to las vegas ahead of what's becoming a heavyweight grudge match between fury and wilder. and the trailblazers, in black history month, meet two women who have made a huge impact on their sport. also coming up in the programme... good evening, welcome to sportsday. premier league takeovers are never easy but newcastle united's has been fairly tortuous. the consortium that now owns the club initially walked away meet two women who have made a huge impact on their sport. good evening, welcome to sportsday. premier league takeovers are never easy but newcastle united's has been fairly tortuous. the consortium that now owns the club initially walked away from a deal 17 months ago, losing patience as their offer was scrutinised, there was a big snag list that included questions over the influence of the saudi state, broadcasting piracy of live matches there, and ongoing objections from human rights groups. but those have been resolved. let's cross live to st james' park and speak to our sports correspondent katie gornall, katie, it has all moved very quickly, hasn't it? but the mike ashley era, it is all over. in the last hour or so, it has been confirmed that the new owners are in place. confirmed that the new owners are in lace. . , ~' , place. that is right. i think it is all still sinking _ place. that is right. i think it is all still sinking in _ place. that is right. i think it is all still sinking in here - place. that is right. i think it is all still sinking in here and - place. that is right. i think it is all still sinking in here and it i all still sinking in here and it will take some time. it has been such a seismic event for newcastle united, for the region and for football. in one swoop. newcastle united are now the richest club in the world, and there have been so many false dawns at this club, in terms of the takeover. it has dragged on, this particular transfer saga, for 18 months, but it is now confirmed. newcastle united are under new ownership and will receive that confirmation from the premier league within the last hour. i'm just going to be due some of the statement that was released. it says the premier league, and newcastle united, have settled the dispute over the takeover of the club. following the completion of the owners and directors test, the club has been sold to the consortium with immediate effect. the legal dispute concerned which entities would own and all have the ability to control the club following the takeover, and this is the kebet i think. the premier league has now received legally binding assurances that the kingdom of saudi arabia will not control newcastle united football club. and if you remember, 0llie, this deal was agreed in april last year between mike ashley and the saudi arabian backed consortium, which has been spearheaded by the finance year amanda staveley, and also includes the ribbon brothers, who own property in newcastle and also newcastle united racecourse. but it all broke down last summer when the premier league effectively blocked the deal, because they had concerns, primarily that the state of saudi arabia effectively controlled the club. they are now happy that those are two separate entities and they have given the green light for the saudi public investment fund to provide 80% of the deal to allow this takeover, of the deal to allow this takeover, of the money for the deal to allow this takeover to go through and also there is another element to this as well, this resolution comes after saudi arabia settled an alleged piracy dispute with qatar and the qatar —based broadcaster bn sport to broadcast premier league football in the middle east. so there are lots of elements to this, it has been very complicated, it has dragged on for an awfully long time but the woman at the centre of this, as i mentioned of this deal, as amanda staveley, and in the last few minutes she has been speaking to our sports editor dan rowan and this is what she has had to say.— what she has had to say. looks, it is auoin what she has had to say. feel a deep sense of unease about this. those fans that i have spoken to who echo that, and you can't quite separate their love for the club for linking up their love for the club for linking up with a regime that has been accused of human rights abuses in the way it has. so i think they will be heavily scrutinised, as you say, and that line of the statement that the premier league have received football, they are the richest club in the world, the public investment fund is worth around £260 billion, and all the possibilities that that brings in the investment that could bring not just to the eroded so much over the years and now they have a lot of excitement, and a team that they feel for the first time in a long time can really compete. thank you vicky. so a huge moment for newcastle united's history. i wonder how those mike ashley years will be remembered. when crouches with me in the studio and has been looking at that. the ashley era, all over. ., , , ., ., ., , over. probably probably not going to be i looked upon to fondly buy some newcastle fans will stop it is a momentous day for the club but i want to take a back to 2007, the last time newcastle welcomed a new owner. mike ashley the previous owner. mike ashley the previous owner said he would be an excellent custodian of the clur*s heritage. he wore the team shirt, trying points in the stands and appointed kevin keegan. but what fans felt as underinvestment followed. they were having fun and winning trophies, but that did not materialise full stop he renamed st james's that did not materialise full stop he renamed stjames's park after his sportswear company, tried but could not sell the club for a fee he wanted and fans grew increasingly restless. boycotts and protests aplenty. sojust restless. boycotts and protests aplenty. so just wear has or hasn't he spent the money? £221 million on players over the last decade. now that by comparison is about the same as brighton or wolves, but if you compare it to the likes of manchester city, the biggest spenders in the premier league, well, they have spent over a billion, so thatjust gives you a sense of what they have been competing against. if you look at those individual transfers themselves, only recently have newcastle broken their transfer record under mike ashley. nearly £40 million spent onjoelinton. until then, 2005, michael owen was their biggest signing and joelinton has not exactly been a rousing success, just six goals so far in the last couple of years. fans though mainly care about results and style of play, and neither have been particularly great, and this season if you take a look at the league table it has been a poor start. second bottom, and without a win at the moment. if wejust second bottom, and without a win at the moment. if we just take a look at what it is like under the ashley years, well, it has been made table mediocrity for the most part, two relegations and just twice have a finished in the top half of the table. and that is not what newcastle fans who grew up may be in the 90s when they were challenging for the premier league and in the champions league were expecting. grand ambition has rarely been matched on the pitch. now, nearly 94% of newcastle fans support this takeover, so what are they going to get? the money from saudi arabia dwarfs that of the likes of manchester city and paris st germain, but we don't yet know how much of that is going to be available to newcastle. they can't spend any money on players until january, so questions will still surround their manager, steve bruce for quite some time. but if you just want a sense of the viewpoint and the excitement around newcastle right now, isaac hayden their midfield is a sums it up right now perfectly, exciting times for seconds. he doesn't have much experience as a coach either, so you have to wonder how big a gamble is it employing someone with very little coaching experience in a fight that can be very pivotal to his career. he says all the right things, in terms of how wild needs to approach this technically, but you have to ask the question is, it is that critical moment in between the rounds when the fight is difficult, will he have the right instructions to get the best out of deontay wilder. we are only 48 hours away, we will find the answer. tyson fury looked supremely confident, he is still the odds—makers favoured and you wouldn't bet against him stopping deontay wilder again. but a big test, for deontay wilder, as far as his career is concerned. mani; as his career is concerned. many commonwealth, carrying a message from the queen that will be read out at the opening of the games nextjuly. it was an absolute honour, you know, firstly to meet the queen again, and just to be able to have a quick chat with her, and then yes, just being from such a diverse background, you know, i am a disabled female black person. and i think that represents what this games is about and what
