him. i received a call on the| 14th of may from a colleague him. i received a call on the - 14th of may from a colleague of mine who was asking for assistance for rodwell, she sent me really graphic photographs saying he was attacked on the seventh of may and he needed treatment in south africa, and that's where i got involved. there was resources in zimbabwe for his treatment and for him to stand an optimal chance of living a normal life, with reconstruction, rehabilitative therapy, he had to come to south africa, there was no doubt about that. rodwell and his mother arrived and johannes berg at the end of june to begin reconstructive surgery. when he arrived i remember him coming out of the ambulance and he was lying on the stretcher with a little hoodie on, and he had a little ipad, and as they wheeled him into the hospital he was watching spongebob on the ipad, which is a very childlike thing to do, to ignore all the adults in the room and just what is ipad, so i remember thinking and it was all bandaged, but he was still laughing at this little ipad and i remember thinking many in adults would not handle tons of people around him with as much grace as a nine—year—old. i think that was when rodwell revealed his character, that he was a remarkable little soul that was just going to take everything in his stride and still approach everything with that childlike innocence and excitement. a team of more than 20 specialists, all of them work started the process of rebuilding rodwell�*s face. this rebuilding rodwell's face. this was a very _ rebuilding rodwell's face. ti 3 was a very heart—wrenching story when i saw the first photographs of how horrendous the injury was, so ijust thought i could see where i could help, and do whatever i can, so i was very happy to offer my services for free and i think the rest of the team felt the same way be the big procedures involved personally identifying the big injuries, correcting all of the fractures, the orbit in which the left eye was housed originally, placing prosthetics into the nose or eventually what would become the nose on his left eye, and placing a large free flight reconstruct the flat that was in place of the flat that was in place of the upper lip, so we have to use a piece of his thigh to reconstruct that part of. in august, two months after arriving in south africa, rodwell was discharged in hospital, but it's a long road to recovery. rodwell lost his left eye in the attack. he is now on his way to an appointment with an ocular rest. ., .., appointment with an ocular rest. ., , , . , rest. you can see the pictures of all these — rest. you can see the pictures of all these people, _ rest. you can see the pictures of all these people, they - rest. you can see the pictures of all these people, they have had problems with their eyes, and everybody that you see here is wearing a prosthesis. all of these people rodwell. today a template for the prosthesis is being made. rodwell, it will feel a little bit cold for you. it does take a bit of time to get this right but if you consider the amount of time, the length of time you wear it, it is worth it. this is going to give me the shape to manufacture rodwell's prosthesis. the aim is to try and match it as perfectly as what we can so that when you see the patient afterwards, you cannot tell which i it is. —— eye. perfect, you are a champion, you are very good. you really surprised me. let's trim off the excess. there we go. this is what i put in your eye. this is the shape of your eye, you see, you were so good. and then it comes out here so when you come to me next time, i am going to have something thatis i am going to have something that is going to look like this but it is going to be for you. it will only fit you. but you were a very good buy, i'm very proud of you. good young man. thank you. thank you so much. what we will be doing is designing the nasal prosthesis and ultimately in his case it will mean we will take some impressions of the implant currently in his face, make a substructure and onto that we will use magnets to locate his nose and he needs to place at the end of the magnets will lock it together. this impression will then be used to make a plaster model of his face so that allows us to create the structure that we intend to make for him. rodwell has not been — intend to make for him. rodwell has not been out _ intend to make for him. rodwell has not been out in _ intend to make for him. rodwell has not been out in public -
