Afternoon is pretty fast. There is the Tail End of a better front to the Tail End of a better front to the east that could give us a few showers this afternoon, another front trying to come into the North West, which will bring some transient showers into western scotland. Overall, a lot of dry weather, a lot of brightness, and thanks to the sunshine, actually some pleasant warmth, temperatures up some pleasant warmth, temperatures up to 22 celsius in cardiff, a little above where we would anticipate for the time of year. This evening, perhaps a few showers grazing the far South East before clearing. This front moves south, but the rain associated with It Fizzles away. A dry night, temperatures in double figures, perhaps Mist And Fog returning to southern areas in the morning. On tuesday, we push that front away to the east. It is breezy towards the far North West, but that should mean we break up the cloud a little more here and see more sunshine across scotland and Northern Ireland through the day. Widespread sunshine on tuesday, early morning Mist And Fog quickly burning off, and temperatures again very favourable for the time of year. High teens to the low 20s. Wednesday is the equinox, meaning equal day and night. Officially the astronomical change into autumn. A little more autumnal perhaps in the North West of scotland on wednesday. This front is livelier, heavier rain and stronger winds for a time, but it tends to weaken as it slides south, is light rain for southern scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of Northern England through the second part of the day. To the south, we will still see more sunshine. No great surprises in the weather, even through to The End of the week. We tend to keep fronts towards the far north. Many of us will will continue to see unseasonably warm air in the coming days. Perhaps the biggest change for The End of the week is that it will become a little windier, but we are not talking Autumn Storms yet. Temperatures should stay in the high teens to low 20s. Most of us will see some bright if not sunny conditions. All that said, with that quiet start to through the weekend, things may start to get more dramatic, and by the start of the next next week, we may see gail is becoming more widespread and heavy rain. Autumn gradually creeping in for now, but set to pick up the pace next week. A reminder of our top story the Business Secretary has been holding crisis talks with Energy Firms amid worries of big rises to Energy Bills in the coming weeks. Thats all from the Bbc News at one, so its goodbye from me, and on Bbc One we nowjoin the bbc s news teams where you are. Good afternoon. Its 1. 33pm and heres your latest sports news. The current programme of fixtures for both the mens and Womens Game runs until The End of 2023. Fifas head of global Development Arsen Wenger is in favour of a World Cup every two years. Wiegman isnt a fan i would not do it. Why is that . Because i think it is not very good for the players, for their welfare. In europe, it is well organised, we have good competitions, we have the euros, the olympics and then you have the World Cup, major tournaments for us. And i think when you have all these tournaments every year, when early players going to get some rest . When are they going to recover from very intense football every year in a row . About a dozen western dual nationals are detained in iran, including nazanin zaghari ratcliffe. Caroline hawley s report contains some distressing images. Elika ashoori makes macaroons and cakes for a living, treats for other peoples celebrations, but her own wedding is on hold, her whole life consumed by her fathers arrest. I have to always throw myself into my work to not think about it too much because it drives me crazy. He was never political. He was a mechanical engineer with a love of astronomy. Throughout his entire life he has put me and my brother first. But in august in 2017, while visiting his elderly mother in tehran, Anoosheh Ashoori was thrown into irans notorious evin jail, one of a dozen westerners being held in iran, including nazanin zaghari ratcliffe. Their families describe them as hostages being used by iranian authorities for political and financial leverage with the west. Evin is notorious for being horrific. Each room is shared by 15 20 people. They have rats and cockroaches all the time. He was interrogated very, very heavily. They threatened to hurt us throughout the interrogations. They told my dad that they knew where we lived, where we worked, what pets we had. My dad was saying, i have nothing to confess to you. Twice he tried to take his own life because he thought that if he was out of the equation, then they would not be able to hurt us. Last month, Cctv Footage from Inside Evin hacked into and leaked. Former inmates say it shows the outside world just a small glimpse of what the jail is like. Elika fears her father will not get out until the iran and uk strike a bargain for his release. I mean, he is 67 now and he has been there forfour years, for having done nothing. Who will be answerable to that . Elikas father always supported everything she did. The nature of my business is constantly to talk to people about weddings, birthdays and to be excited for them. And that is why it was very difficult at first for me to do myjob. I didnt want to make things for happy people, as horrible as it sounds. Now i use my business and i use my cakes to focus on Peoples Happiness because it is kind of like a beam of hope. In her head she keeps planning the ultimate cake, The One she will make to eventually welcome him home. Caroline hawley, Bbc News. Canadians go to the Polls Today in an election taking place two years early. Prime Ministerjustin Trudeau called the Snap Poll last month, seeking to capitalise on public approval for his handling of the Covid I9 pandemic. But the latest Opinion Poll points to an extremely tight race, with Mr Trudeau virtually Neck And Neck with his conservative rival, erin otoole. From montreal, Samira Hussain reports in the remaining hours of the campaign, prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in his element, greeting voters, his charm on full display but it wasnt always this much fun. Its many canadians are just plain frustrated, worried about the economy, the vaccine mandates, that this election was even called in the first place. Some of that anger has come out in very un canadian ways. For many struggling to keep their livelihoods intact and open, Mr Trudeaus decision to hold canadas second election in less than two years feels like an unwanted distraction. I have so many worries right now. Every day is a worry. We are not through the pandemic, so do i have enough mental Space And Heart space to even worry about the elections . We are still in Small Business worrying about keeping the doors open, staying in business. The son of a former prime minister, Mr Trudeau carries the most famous name in canadian politics, but he also carries the burden of canadas liberal history and is coming up against some very modern conservative energy. The leader of the Conservative Party and Mr Trudeaus main challenger is painting him as a politician born with a Silver Spoon in his mouth. Every canadian has met a Justin Trudeau in their lives privileged, entitled, and always looking out for Number One. He was looking out for Number One when he called this expensive and unnecessary election in the middle of the pandemic. Here in western Canada Support for the conservatives is strongest but the election is not top of mind for farmers who are dealing with some of the driest conditions on record. This is a long way from the countrys political heartland. How can they help . They cannot make it rain, they cannot make the feed grow, so if somebody gives us some money all it does is now your bale of hay that was 100 is 120. Justin trudeau decided to have this election betting that he could turn his apparent success leading canada through the pandemic into a bigger majority and a firmer hold on power, but it is not entirely clear that that bet will actually pay off, such is canadas disillusionment with this election. It is even possible he may lose power altogether. Samira hussein, Bbc News, montreal. A monument dedicated to all the dutch victims of the holocaust has opened in amsterdam. It lists 102,000 jewish people killed by the nazis as well as more than 200 sinti and roma. Tim allman reports. The holocaust was a crime committed in so many places, with so many victims. More than 100,000 of them are named here. The first such memorial in The Netherlands dedicated to a dark chapter in the countrys history. Translation this monument confronts us with the criminal murder of thousands, murdered for no other reason than their identity. In doing so, the monument also demands accountability. Accountability as to whether more should be done during the war years to save those who were murdered. The netherlands was occupied for much of the second World War with three quarters of the countrys Jewish Population killed, most by the nazis, but some by local collaborators, a difficult legacy to deal with. The king met with some of the survivors, seated next to the wall where the victims names are inscribed. Translation i thought it was emotional. I just saw the name of A Friend Of Mine, not Anne Frank or anyone famous, but A Friend Of Mine and i found it hard to read. I knew she was dead of course. I still have a picture of her at home. As one survivor put it, this monument is a tribute that can never be erased and a warning that can never be forgotten. Tim allman, Bbc News. As weve been hearing, for the first time in more than a century, the Chelsea Flower Show is being held in september. It opens to the public tomorrow. Charlotte gallagher has had a preview. All The Gardens here at Chelsea Flower Show have a theme. This is the Guide Dogs 90th anniversary garden. You can see behind me, it goes up on a slope there and there are some sculptures are lots of different planting here. I am delighted to bejoined by one of the designers here. You might be overshadowed because we also have flash. We do indeed. A Trainee Guide Dog puppy. She is eight months old, actually. She is currently being trained so she can go out with someone who is partially sighted. Adam, what was the inspiration behind The Garden . The inspiration was, as you mentioned, the 90th, 90 years of the Guide Dogs association. We spoke to various people, a lovely lady called janet about The Garden, and we wanted to tell a story. The story we chose was to use a soldier from the first World War a soldier and a really, Dark Space, the Dark Space in the corner of a garden, someone who is now feeling lonely, isolated, very separate from society. And then we have got another figure that has brought that person out and now they have got that Guide Dogs are now the liberated and being brought back into society. We are creating different levels in The Garden as well. So whether you are fully sighted, partially sighted, or blind, there is something that everyone can take from it. The planting is dog friendly. You can see flash is having a sniff and a bit of a munch on the plants. The judges have been around already. That is not a problem. It is nice to see flash enjoying The Garden, to be honest. Why not . Yes, good to see they are enjoying it. And the colours that you have used for the flowers, they are with visually impaired people in mind. The area behind you there, for people who are partially sighted, sometimes they can still see some colour, especially when you plant big blocks of colour that are contrasted. Yellow is a colour that can be seen. And a lot of gardens in chelsea, the colours blend, they are subtle, integrated gradually. We have gone for the opposite, we have gone for a bold, brash, blocks of colour so that someone with partial sight can see those colours and enjoy them not as much as we can, but can get some Enjoyment And Experience from them. There is a lot of Sound And Texture here as well. Yes, that was the different levels we were thinking of. We were saying there about the people who are partially sighted. If you are completely blind, you cannot see anything, but what we thought about regarding that was sound, for example. You can hear the brook in the background. Also where you are sitting there are some herbs, we have thyme and those sort of things. You have fragrance from those plans. There is fruit in The Gardens that is going to give you taste. There are ferns and grasses that are fantastic to touch. Even though you cannot see, we have lots of things to simulate all the other senses. Nice touches like a Dog Bowl as well. Yes, that is a 1930s Dog Bowl. That is a old Thermos Flask as well. Thanks to that famous website where you find these weird things. That is the fun of doing these guidance as well, finding those details and those quirky bits and pieces that make it the guide and that it is. Did you work with blind and visually impaired people to see what they would appreciate . Yes, through Guide Dogs we liaised with blind people. We met a lady called janet and spoke to her and visited her, went round The Garden with her. That was really important as well. We needed to understand. When you are fully sighted, it is so easy to just walk around every day and not have a clue about how it is to be blind. Sometimes when you talk about blind. Sometimes when you talk about blind people, you think of blind people in inverted commas. This will give us an insight into what it is like to have partial sight or no sight at all. It would have been arrogant of us to create a garden without getting the Insight And Input of someone who has got site last. It input of someone who has got site last. ,. , , input of someone who has got site last. , last. It is absolutely beautiful tomorrow last. It is absolutely beautiful tomorrow when last.
