The first non professional Space Crew ever launched into orbit has returned safely after their three day mission. Hello and welcome if you re watching in the uk or around the world. The footballing legend Jimmy Greaves has died at the age of 81. He was one of the most prolific strikers in the Games History scoring more than 400 goals in a 15 Year Career for chelsea, Ac Milan, tottenham, West Ham, and of course england. He remains one of englands top scorers of all time only wayne rooney, Bobby Charlton and Gary Lineker have got more goals for the three lions. He was part of the England Squad that won the 1966 World Cup but missed out on an appearance in the final. Later he became a popular Tv Presenter on the long Running Itv Football Show Saint and greavesie. The england and spurs Captain Harry Kane has tweeted his condolences. He says ripJimmy Greaves. A true legend and one of the great Goal Scorers. Thoughts are with his family and friends. One ofjimmy s former Clubs Chelsea have paid a tribute too. In a tweet, The Club said, we are extremely saddened to learn of the passing ofJimmy Greaves. We extend our deepest sympathies to jimmys family and friends at this sad time. Rest in peace jimmy. Spears announced his this morning spurs. Andy swiss looks back at his long and varied footballing career. Here, chelsea. He was English Footballs ultimate goal machine. Back to greaves, the chance of a shot Jimmy Greaves once said that for all his skill, scoring was his job and it made him a superstar. Greaves a Hat Trick for greaves after starting at chelsea, Jimmy Greaves moved to Ac Milan in 1961, but his European Adventures soon turned sour and he came home to tottenham hotspur, The Club which would define his career. It wasnt just the goals, it was the staggering rate at which he scored them, 266 for spurs, 44 in just 57 games for england. He was a key player heading into the 1966 World Cup, but early in the tournament, greaves was injured and although he recovered by the final, he was left out in favour of geoff hurst. A disappointment which proved hard to take. I couldnt force myself to join the festivities, because i had built, in my own mind, i had built myself up that i was going to be in the side and i was going to be one of the key people and, suddenly, it wasnt there. This is greaves after retiring in 1971, greaves struggled to cope. Alcoholism was followed by bankruptcy. But he battled back from both to reinvent his career. Good afternoon. Good day, now, saint, what happened there . You were favourites to qualify. A relaxed raconteur, he was a tv natural and Saint And Greavsie, alongside ian stjohn, was a hit with viewers. Although the programme ended in the early 90s, the affection for greaves certainly didnt. And, in 2009, the man who famously missed out on the World Cup final at last received a winners medal. It was a fitting reward for one of footballs most popular and prolific talents. Rarely has the art of Goal Scoring been made to look quite so easy. 0ur Sports Correspondent is chetan pathak. How would you assess his contribution to football . It is an extraordinary contribution to football . It is an extraordinary Contribution Contribution to football . It is an extraordinary contribution as. Contribution to football . It is an l extraordinary contribution as said in that report and i think it was notjust in that report and i think it was not just those in that report and i think it was notjust those numbers that in that report and i think it was not just those numbers that are absolutely staggering for chelsea, 44 goals, 132 goals in 116 nine games, 266 goals in 379 games for tottenham, he is a legend for both of those clubs, but it is his humour and he was always on record as saying that fans categorically put him down as the best Tottenham Player and Goal Scorer and Chelsea Fan said he was the best Goal Scorer they had seen an West Ham fan said he was the brother probably the best Chelsea And Tottenham Goal Scorer. It could not stop playing, he did his best, but he ended up playing at my local club, barnet, and this is a man if you talk to your dad or granddad, more often than not they will say thatJimmy Greaves was the best footballer that they ever saw and why . He was such a natural Goal Scorer, it was something he could not take and he said in his autobiography he was brought into schools to advise young strikers how to score goals and he said it was instinctive and he did not think about. Robbie fowler was the closest he said who played football like him. So many great stories coming out about him, in particular his friendship with bobby moore, sneaking off while they were on tour with england, including in New York where they went to see Ella Fitzgerald in concert, and got a telling off. There was the drinking, we should not look past that, he said the 1970s kind of passed him by entirely, he was always looking for the fun that could be had. He did overcome that and that is the great part of his story, there was a Brief Separation from his wife, unemotional and turbulent time in his life, but he came back to her, they renewed their vows and although he was ill for the last few years, the work that he did, Charity Work in particular, in football and broadcasting, will live on. Thank ou ve broadcasting, will live on. Thank you very much before becoming tottenhamS Record Goal Scorer, Jimmy Greaves was breaking records at chelsea The Club where he started his career as a teenager. Lets talk to Chelsea Historian Rick glanvill who will be going to the match this afternoon between chelsea and spurs. Hello. How would you assess his contribution to chelsea . He hello. How would you assess his contribution to chelsea . Hello. How would you assess his contribution to chelsea . He is very much considered contribution to chelsea . He is very much considered one contribution to chelsea . He is very much considered one of contribution to chelsea . He is very much considered one of our contribution to chelsea . He is very much considered one of our own I Contribution to chelsea . He is very much considered one of our own in the current parlance at stamford bridge. A record breaking prodigy. We had a youth setup, the chelsea juniors which was in its infancy and he was the first great star and as a Youth Player he scored 114 goals, thatis Youth Player he scored 114 goals, that is just phenomenal and he carried out into the first time, 132 goals in 116 nine performances, it is mind blowing. This was a player who did not run plus players, he drifted past them, he did not whack the ball into the net, he stroked it, he was full of grace, beautiful player, i only saw him after he left chelsea, but the older supporters i have talked to always rain him as probably the greatest ever Youth Product from chelsea. Probably the greatest ever Youth Product from chelsea. When people talk about natural product from chelsea. When people talk about natural goalscorers, product from chelsea. When people talk about natural goalscorers, his| talk about natural Goal Scorers, his is the name that comes to mind, what does that actually mean . It is the name that comes to mind, what does that actually mean . Does that actually mean . It means that they do does that actually mean . It means that they do not does that actually mean . It means that they do not look does that actually mean . It means that they do not look like does that actually mean . It means that they do not look like they does that actually mean . It means| that they do not look like they have been trained, they do not look like they are drilled to act like they have been through repetitive Training Sessions of how to run onto a ball and how to dribble and how to control, that it all looks completely natural to them, but they look as if they are playing in a park rather than in front of 60,000 people on a Saturday Afternoon calling for their heads. When you think, it is fitting, victoria, and i know that people always say, i am not being glib, he did always have perfect timing and today, it is so fitting that it is tottenham against chelsea because this was the match that as a 17 year old he made his debut for chelsea and scored the equalising Goal And Danny blanchflower who was trying to mark him said he felt he had played against one of the greatest players of all time at 17 years old. What of all time at 17 years old. What would be a of all time at 17 years old. What would be a fitting of all time at 17 years old. What would be a fitting way of all time at 17 years old. What would be a fitting way to of all time at 17 years old. What would be a fitting way to play i would be a fitting way to play tribute to this man at the Game Today and actually looking ahead . Well, anyone who can unite the divergent bases of chelsea supporters and tottenham supporters has achieved something and i think he is rightly a hallowed figure at both clubs and we are in deep mourning, we all appreciate what he contributed to The Club and we will all come together at the Tottenham Hotspur Ground today and give him a proper sendoff, Hotspur Ground Today and give him a propersendoff, i Hotspur Ground Today and give him a proper sendoff, i think. Proper sendoff, i think. Thank you very much Uk Government ministers are this morning trying to reassure the public that there is no threat to the supply of gas to customers despite soaring wholesale Gas Prices, and warnings of a Knock On Effect on food supplies. The impact of will be discussed at a series of meetings between the Government And Industry leaders over the coming days. The Business Secretary Kwasi kwarteng says he will meet with industry figures to plan a way forward. Katy austin has more. The reasons wholesale Gas Prices have soared include high demand and lower wind and solar generation. The Business Secretary held urgent meetings with energy companies yesterday. The high prices have already pushed some small suppliers to the wall, and Theres Concern more will follow as soon as next week. Were seeing the record breaking price of international gas, that does feed through to the Market And Weve already seen full Supply Failures in recent weeks, partly as a consequence of that and partly, as with other features of our market, its difficult to tell whether there will be any more. The rising cost is a worry for steelmakers, which need a lot of energy. Another Knock On Effect is a shortage of Carbon Dioxide. Its a By Product when fertiliser is produced, and two large Uk Plants which make it have closed. The owner of one large poultry group, which includes bernard matthews, called the Carbon Dioxide issue a massive body blow. Its used by meat producers, including in the packaging process. As the next two weeks unfold at this as as the next two weeks unfold at this Gas Cries as the next two weeks unfold at this gas Cries Increase and the shutting down gas Cries Increase and the shutting down of gas Cries Increase and the shutting down of the plants fails through, i think down of the plants fails through, i think we down of the plants fails through, i think we will see gaps on shelves fairly think we will see gaps on shelves fairly soon. We are not going to run out of fairly soon. We are not going to run out of food fairly soon. We are not going to run out of food. We will not run out of food out of food. We will not run out of food but out of food. We will not run out of food. But there are going to be major food. But there are going to be major concerns about the continuity of sopply, major concerns about the continuity of supply, both to supermarkets and convenience stores and two restaurants and takeaways. The Risinu Restaurants and takeaways. The rising price restaurants and takeaways. The rising price of restaurants and takeaways. Tie rising price of gas is restaurants and takeaways. Ti9 rising price of gas is being restaurants and takeaways. Ti9 rising price of gas is being felt restaurants and takeaways. Ti9 rising price of gas is being felt by businesses at the moment and it is likely to feed through to consumers at a time when the Cost Of Living is rising. The Business Secretary insists that britain can meet demand for gas and the government does not expect Supply Emergencies this winter. He says there will be further meetings with the Energy Regulator and industry to plan a way forward. Earlier, our political correspondent Peter Saull told me what 0ne Government Minister has been saying this morning. There are lots of meetings happening, as they were saying in that reports, just then, over the weekend. They really want to work out what they can do, if anything, to help the industry, particular concerns about smaller energy suppliers, some of which could go to the wall fairly imminently, because they are far more vulnerable to the fluctuations in the wholesale gas market. Now, this morning, another government minister, former Business Secretary Alok Sharma was on the Andrew Marr Show and his real message was that supplies of gas are absolutely secure. People should not be concerned about the risk to supply, in fact, a significant part of our gas supplies, domestically, the imported gas, primarily comes from countries like norway. So we are secure or not, but of course, when it comes to prices, there will be concern as well, but we have the energy price cap, we have the warm homes discount, to protect people at this particular time. So, Gas Supply is safe, we are told. The other big issue is Carbon Dioxide, because as a result of this big surge in wholesale Gas Prices, two large fertiliser plants have had to cease operations, which has led to a nationwide shortage of c02, something which is really important in wide parts of the economy, particularly the food and drinks sector. Now, i am told, that the Business Secretary has now got a meeting Set Up with cf fertiliser, the american company that owns those two plants, one on tayside, they are there in cheshire. I am also of the understanding that actually this does happen fairly regularly, depending on Gas Prices, fertiliser plants do just lower their output all Little Bird for commercial reasons, so this is a commercial decision that has been taken by cf fertiliser, they are not in any financial trouble, they are not asking for a bailout from the governments and there are other fertiliser plants still operating across the government trying to work out how it can best ensure the supply of c02 is still in place and they are not ruling out the prospects of importing some supplies from abroad. The british foreign Secretary Liz Truss has defended the uks new Security Agreement with the united states and australia, which has caused a growing diplomatic row with france. The deal known as aucus will see australia given the technology to build nuclear powered submarines. Liz truss has said it will make the uk safer and protectjobs. But the french, whose own Submarine Deal with australia has been cancelled, are angry about that. In the latest development, its being reported president Emmanuel Macron will have a call with president Joe Biden in the coming days. According to a french government spokesperson, france would be seeking clarification over their cancelled submarine order. The headlines on Bbc News. Universities in england must take Student Views into account when deciding how much to teach online, according to the regulator for higher education. Out of nearly fifty institutions contacted by the bbc, just thirteen said all teaching would be Face To face. Here s our Education Editor branwenjeffreys. Universities have been almost empty. 0nly students on some practical courses made it onto campus last year, but within weeks, everyone should be back. Almost 50 universities across the uk have shared their plans. This snapshot shows a return to mainly Face To face teaching, but many will still hold larger lectures online. In england, where fees are more than £9,000, a warning from the regulator. Student views matter. What we will be looking for is the quality of provision, whether or not it is Face To face or online, but critically, that universities and colleges are taking into account the views of their students stop what they want . What is their feedback . That is factored into Course Provision over the of next year. Vaccination should help the return of Student Life. They will be Pop Up Clinics for second jabs in many places, and for those who missed out on Student Life last year, a chance to refresh byjoining start of term events. Branwen jefferies, Bbc News. Sickle Cell Disease is thought to be the fastest growing Genetic Disorder in the uk, with almost 300 babies born with it each year. It mostly affects people from african and caribbean backgrounds. Some feel treatment is inadequate. A new Bbc Documentary explores why calls are growing for more investment and training. Kes browne reports. Evan Nathan Smith enjoyed reading, Table Tennis and watching football. He was just 21 when he died here at North Middlesex Hospital in april 2019, so desperate for help that he called 999 from his hospital bed. He felt breathless. So he requested for oxygen from the nurse in charge and he was refused. Evan came here to have a routine procedure related to his gall bladder. But not long after coming home, he was readmitted when his health took a turn for the worse. The East Londoner had Sickle Cell, a genetic condition that changed the shape of red blood cells, causing them to get blocked in blood vessels. It can lead to intense episodes of pain known as a crisis which can be life threatening if not treated. Two years after his death, an inquest found evan might not have died if he had been given the correct care. This is a nurse who has Sickle Cell and she met evans parents for a new documentary, Sickle Cell fighting for care, which explores whether treatment for the condition is improving. So the morning i call evan and say how was your night . And he said, mummy, this is a story for another day, the nurse reported when she was doing her handover to the other nurses. She exaggerated the whole thing. And it looks like im being victimised now that im talking. I think they can hear me. So you go when you come back, theres a story for another day. That was the last words of my son to me. So how did you feel when you heard the coroner say that Evans Life could have been saved if the doctors acted quicker . I was a little bit disappointed because i expected the coroner to say it was negligence, but he refused to say that because he said if he was not actually neglected, but he was actually being cared for, only that he was given the wrong care. He said he died of Sickle Cell while he walked into hospital. He wasnt in any Sickle Cell crisis is the lack of proper care he received that led to the deterioration. Sickle Cell Wasjust the underlying health condition. I dont think they actually understand a Sickle Cell crisis in patients. North Middlesex Hospital admits the Care Evan received here should have been better. Since his death they say theyve introduced a Specialist Area on one of their wards, as well as extra training for staff. I was thinking, did evan have to die for all of these changes to take place . His legacy . I mean, if i mean something is being done for sick patients after his death. a heck of a ride thats how one Amateur Astronaut has described splashing safely into the atlantic after spending three days in space. Simonjones reports. Mission Control Copy 600. The final moments of a mission quite unlike any other. After orbiting the earth for three days, splashdown off the coast of florida for the four Amateur Astronauts dubbed the space tourists. Inspiration four on behalf of spacex. Welcome to planet earth. Your mission has shown the world that space is for all of us. It was led and bankrolled by a billionaire businessman, jared isaacman. He said it had been a heck ofa ride, adding, were just getting started. It all began three days ago. Liftoff for a commercial mission, the first without any professional astronauts on board. Much of the adventure beamed back live to earth. There is an awful lot that still needs to be accomplished in space. Theres an awful lot of it, and we know so little about it. And there may be some really interesting answers to questions weve all been asking for a long Time Out there. So we have to do that. The Spacex Capsule was fitted with an extra large window, allowing the crew members to enjoy some spectacular views alongside the billionaire who paid for all four seats, three ordinary citizens with inspirational stories, an artist, a Us Air Force veteran, and a woman who overcame Bone Cancer as a child. Hello, everyone, and welcome to our dragon capsule. Here in space. As an adult, Hayley Arceneaux has gone back to work for the hospital that treated her. They had all trained for six months, although the Computer System on board was actually in control. They carried out several scientific experiments, but in truth, it was more than a fact finding mission. This was another milestone in the space tourism market. Medical officer Hayley Arceneaux has now egressed the vehicle. A chance to show that it can be opened up to more people, provided theres a backer with deep pockets who could identify others with a shared sense of adventure. Simon jones, Bbc News. Now its time for a look at the weather with sarah keith lucas. Hello there. Yesterday we saw top temperatures up to 24 or 25 for quite a few places. The warm September Sunshine easing away through the course of the today, a different feel to the weather. Outbreaks of rain working their way west to east. Still sunshine around and dry in the west later on into the afternoon. Weve got this line of rain that, as it pushes into eastern england, becomes quite heavy for East Yorkshire down towards kent. There could be some localised Surface Water Flooding for a time with 30 40 millimetres of rain, some thunderstorms mixed in as well. Also some heavy showers for the far North East of scotland, particularly for 0rkney. Elsewhere, sunshine developing, lifting temperatures to between about 15 20 celsius so not as warm as recent days but not bad for this time of year. Into the evening hours, sticking with this area of Cloud And Rain across eastern england, so a soggy night for some. But away from the Far East of england, most other places dry with clear spells and it will be a cooler, fresher night than weve seen recently, with temperatures down into mid single figures for some of us to start off your monday morning. Monday is still quite dry and settled. The first half of this new week in head in fact looking quite dry. Things change from around mid week onwards so well start to see low pressure bringing us wetter, windier conditions later in the week ahead. So eventually things turning a little bit more autumnal, but as we start off Monday Weve got low pressure well to the north of the uk, higher pressure to the South And South west. So that is keeping things mostly dry. The high pressure winning out i think as we head on into tuesday. We still got this front lingering for a time, quite a weak affair, on monday. Still a few showers for east anglia, the southeast, lincolnshire perhaps as well. More cloud working in from the North West later on in the day as well but in between most places having some sunshine around, and temperatures roundabout 15 21 degrees during the day on monday. Then clear spells and a cooler, fresher night than weve seen into tuesday, early Mist And Fog patches are likely once again. They should slowly clear away. Light winds in most places but the winds picking up in the North West ahead of the next front trying to move its way in, but not a bad day on tuesday with highs around 16 21 degrees. But its from wednesday and on into thursday we see this change, so Weather Fronts starting to move in from the North West and make their way across the uk, and a North Westerly breeze left behind on thursday after those Weather Fronts pass through. So still some unsettled weather on the cards through the second half of the week, particularly in the north and North West. Things looking drier further south. Goodbye.
