Emma, thank you very much for paying tribute to him Uk Government ministers are this morning trying to reassure the public that there is no threat to the supply of gas to customers despite soaring wholesale Gas Prices, and warnings of a Knock On Effect on food supplies. The impact of will be discussed at a series of meetings between the Government And Industry leaders over the coming days. The Business Secretary Kwasi kwarteng says he will meet with industry figures to plan a way forward. Katy austin has more. The reasons wholesale Gas Prices have soared include high demand and lower wind and solar generation. The Business Secretary held urgent meetings with energy companies yesterday. The high prices have already pushed some small suppliers to the wall, and Theres Concern more will follow as soon as next week. Were seeing the record breaking price of international gas, that does feed through to the Market And Weve already seen full Supply Failures in recent weeks, partly as a consequence of that and partly, as with other features of our market, its difficult to tell whether there will be any more. The rising cost is a worry for steelmakers, which need a lot of energy. Another Knock On Effect is a shortage of Carbon Dioxide. Its a By Product when fertiliser is produced, and two large Uk Plants which make it have closed. The owner of one large poultry group, which includes bernard matthews, called the Carbon Dioxide issue a massive body blow. Its used by meat producers, including in the packaging process. We use c02 for, its used to extend Shelf Life through packaging, notjust in meat but in all foods, and in a time when we are struggling because of the haulage shortages, to actually lose Shelf Life and have a shorter Shelf Life on products going onto shelves is going to cause even more disruption. So this is a really serious problem for us. The rising price of gas is being felt by businesses at the moment, but is likely to feed through to consumers at a time when the Cost Of Living is rising. The Business Secretary, kwasi kwarteng, insists britain can meet demand for gas, and the government doesnt expect Supply Emergencies this winter. He says there will be further meetings with the regulator and industries to try to plan a way forward. Katy austin, Bbc News. 0ur political Correspondent Peter Saull is here. Peter, Alok Sharmas been talking about this issue this morning. The Business Secretary is currently meeting with the Energy Regulator of gem, lots of meetings happening as we said in the report over the weekend, they want to work out what they can do, if anything to help the industry, particular concerns about smaller energy suppliers, some of which could go to the wall imminently because they are more vulnerable to the fluctuations in the wholesale gas market. This morning another former Business Secretary Alok Sharma was on the Andrew Marr Show and his message was that supplies of gas or secure. People should not be concerned about the risk people should not be concerned about the risk to people should not be concerned about the risk to supply, a significant part of the risk to supply, a significant part of our the risk to supply, a significant part of our Gas Supplies are domestic and the imported gas would come from domestic and the imported gas would come from countries like norway and we are come from countries like norway and we are secure and of course when it comes we are secure and of course when it comes to we are secure and of course when it comes to prices, there will be a concern comes to prices, there will be a concern but comes to prices, there will be a concern but we have the Energy Price Ap concern but we have the Energy Price Gap and concern but we have the Energy Price Gap and a concern but we have the Energy Price Gap and a discount to protect people at this gap and a discount to protect people at this time. Gas gap and a discount to protect people at this time at this time. Gas supply is safe, we are told and at this time. Gas supply is safe, we are told and the at this time. Gas supply is safe, we are told and the other at this time. Gas supply is safe, we are told and the other issue at this time. Gas supply is safe, we are told and the other issue is are told and the other issue is Carbon Dioxide because as a result of this big surge in wholesale Gas Prices, some fertiliser plants have had to cease production which has led to a shortage of c02 which is in oughtnt in wide parts of economy including the food and drinks sector. There is a meeting set up, The American company that owns the two plans, one on teesside and the other in cheshire, i also understand that actually this does happen fairly regularly, depending on Gas Prices, fertiliser plants just do lower their output a little bit for commercial reasons and this is a commercial reasons and this is a commercial decision that has been taken, the company are not in trouble and are not asking for a Government Bailout and there are other fertiliser plants still operating across the country. The government is trying to work out how it can best ensure that the supply of c02 is in place and not working out grilling out the possibility of importing from thank you. The british foreign Secretary Liz Truss has defended the uks new Security Agreement with the united states and australia, which has caused a growing diplomatic row with france. The deal known as aukus will see australia given the technology to build nuclear powered submarines. Liz truss has said it will make the uk safer and protectjobs. But the french, whose own Submarine Deal with australia has been cancelled, are angry about that. Courtney bembridge reports. At the centre of this diplomatic row is an agreement with the us and the uk to give australia the technology to build a fleet of nuclear powered submarines. The problem is australia already had a Submarine Deal with france thats been torn up and france is furious. Translation there has been lying, duplicity, a major Breach Of Trust and contempt. This will not do things are not going well between us. And im with the president of france. Its hard to believe this was just a few months ago. France says it was blindsided by Australias Decision and Americas Involvement stung. A breach of contract, which is one thing, its a breach of Breach Of Trust, which is very important. And then its a worldwide humiliation. The french ambassador to canberra is on his way back to paris, along with the ambassador to the us. Im very sad to be forced to leave, but it needs to be some reassessment. The uk Foreign Secretary, liz truss, has defended the deal, saying it showed the uks readiness to be hard headed in defending its interests. But the french Foreign Minister has already dismissed the uks role, describing britain as the third wheel. This puts a big rift down the middle of the nato alliance, pushes france towards doing more with other european countries, puts britain very much in the camp of The Americans and in dealing with the indo pacific. But britain needs a functioning nato alliance. The row comes on the eve of a big un summit, joe bidens first as president , and it threatens to overshadow his efforts to restore Americas Reputation on the world stage. We are so used to seeing footballers make it into the mainstream with broadcasting careers, think about Gary Lineker and jermainejenas butJimmy Greaves and jermaine jenas butJimmy Greaves did and jermainejenas butJimmy Greaves did that in the 1980s, his conversational style, he was a man of the people, there was a time he was regarded as the best footballer in the country and among those in the world and it was that credibility that he brought to his broadcasting career. You only have to look at the reaction on twitter, tributes from Harry Kane and ian wright, the first footballer s name i ever heard from my teacher. It is a great story in his autobiography when he was asked about coming into school to teach people how to score and he said he had no advice, he just got the ball and found a way of putting it in the back of the net. 132 goals at chelsea and 169 games and then a brief spell in milan but it was spurs where he scored 266 goals for tottenham in 379 games, that catapulted him to legendary status and it is extraordinary news that the news of his death is on the day when Tottenham Play Chelsea this afternoon. What reaction there will be at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. It will be very poignant. We know the impact it had on him afterwards, he was open and honest in his autobiography and said he missed most of the 1970s through his addiction to alcohol and it was a battle that continued for some time and one of the herd points for him was missing that moment in 1966. Such was the Reaction And Love for him from fans that there was a campaign for him from fans that there was a campaignfor him him from fans that there was a campaign for him to get a World Cups Winners Medal and he was presented with that in 2009 and a few years later he auctioned it for charity. It was something that cut deep and regardless of missing out on the final, he is regarded as one of the all time great england scorers and that should not be forgotten amongst the record for spurs and chelsea. 0n forgotten amongst the record for spurs and chelsea. On that point of alcoholism, again at a time when people were perhaps not talking openly about it, he did and in his autobiography, he talked about leaving his wife and needing to get his head together and there was a happy ending, he went back to her and they renewed their vows a few years later. There is no doubt, ultimately he is remembered for his finishing, his Goal Scoring prowess and many people also remembers saint and many people also remembers saint and greavsie, him on the airwaves at and greavsie, him on the airwaves at a time when people could be quite serious talking about football, he found the fun and a Heart And Lightness in it, he did not take everything so seriously and that is why he was so adored by spurs fans, chelsea fans, milan fans, West Ham fans and of Course England fans.
