Theres been speculation that the Traffic Light System of red, amber and green lists will be simplified, with the Amber List effectively dropped. And fully vaccinated travellers may no longer have to take costly Pcr Tests our Transport Correspondent Caroline Davies has the latest. Sunshine, but no one s sunbathing. In a normal year, 80 of the guests at this hotel in turkey would have been british. Turkey went on the Red List in may, meaning anyone travelling from there to the uk has to quarantine in a hotel. Since then, it has been a difficult summer here. But they are holding out hope it could change. We have just about survived, but it has been very, very challenging. At the moment, we are very, very quiet. To get the Go Ahead at this stage would be great. It could take us through to The End of october. Maybe even into november. At the moment, it is very, very important. There are now 62 countries on the Red List, including pakistan and mexico. The government will announce changes to the list today. There are other moves ahead, too. The Travel Industry hopes that the Traffic Light System, where countries are currently divided into green, amber or red, will be simplified. The Police Watchdog says tackling violence against women and girls should be as much of a priority as fighting terrorism. The report was commissioned by the home secretary, priti patel, after the murder of Sarah Everard who disappeared in south london. In the year ending March 2020 there were 1. 6 million female victims of domestic abuse in england and wales. 618,000 female victims of sexual assault, and 892,000 female victims of stalking. The report said that while police have made vast improvements in dealing with violence against females, there are continued failings, and called for a fundamental cross system change, asking for it to be prioritised as highly as countering terrorism. The leader of the liberal democrats, sir ed davey, has said his party provides an alternative for those who feel taken for granted by borisjohnsons government, as their annual conference starts today. The party will call for the Emergency Laws brought in during the pandemic to be scrapped and reiterate their opposition to vaccine passports. The lib dems unexpectedly took a Tory Seat in the Chesham And Amersham By Election earlier this year. The newly reshuffled cabinet met for the first time in Downing Street this morning. Dominic raab, Demoted Tojustice secretary, sat opposite the Prime Minister around the cabinet table, as did mr Raabs Replacement as foreign secretary, liz truss, and new Housing Secretary Michael gove. And in his new role as Housing Secretary Michael gove has paused controversial Government Planning reforms. Its understood Mr Gove wants to discuss the reforms with conservative mps and understand their concerns. Lets speak to our political correspondent nick eardley. But that plan was extremely controversial, not least among conservative mps. They feared it would undermine local democracy, and here at westminster, perhaps just as significantly, they feared it would have a big impact on the Conservative Party in the south of england as well. When the Housing Secretary was sacked on wednesday, there was a lot of speculation that this could open the door to a rethink on those plans, and it seems that Michael Gove is at least prepared to think about the idea of redoing these plans in a slightly different way. I understand that he has pause putting these plans through parliament, he wants to speak to conservative mps to figure out what their concerns are, and in the words of one government source, take stock. That has been welcomed by the tories who were deeply sceptical about these planning reforms. It does not mean theyve definitely been scrapped, but it certainly leaves a question open about their future. Certainly leaves a question open about their future. Just over a month after the taliban swept to power in afghanistan, there is economic chaos. Many people arent being paid salaries and cant withdraw money from banks, so theyre selling their possessions just to make ends meet. Our afghanistan Correspondent Secunder kermani sent this report from the city of mazar i sharif, as Ex Government forces begin to work with the taliban. Lifting off, the talibans new air force. On board, their fighters. In the cockpit, theirformer Enemies Pilots from the previous government. But as the group announced an amnesty, others decided to stay on. You are both sitting here very calmly, but do you recognise that its quite a strange situation for two people who were trying to kill each other now to be working together . Elsewhere, the political transition is far less smooth. Foreign reserves are frozen as the international community weighs up how to support afghans but not the taliban. Banks have restricted cash withdrawals. Second hand markets have sprung up across the country. The war might have come to an end, but this is where you see the utter desperation that so many afghans are living in right now. Most of this market didnt even exist a month ago now its full of people trying to sell whatever Household Possessions they can just to put food on the table for theirfamilies. The transition of power in afghanistan was much less bloody than many had feared. But half the country was already in dire need, and the struggle to survive is becoming even harder. Secunder kermani, Bbc News, mazar i sharif. The cinemas may have reopened but Box Office takings are still lower than they were before the pandemic. Figures seen by the bbc Show A Drop of around £40 million in the four weeks to September 12th compared to the same period in 2019. The industry is hoping that the release of the delayed James Bond Film will bring the crowds back our Business Correspondent Victoria Fritz reports, and a warning there are some Flashing Images can ijust have one nice evening, please, before the world explodes . Was there ever a more apt Movie Title . There couldnt be more weighing on the shoulders of this man. After two false starts, there is no time like the present to release the biggest film of the year. Tickets are already on sale here and they are going all in. Very important for us. It is a big film at The Best Of Times but this year especially it is going to be a larger cultural moment, i think, as people kind of get over the last two years. At our cinemas, we are doing themed cocktails, we are putting on parties, we are doing midnight screenings and obviously lots of showings and so, yes, it is very exciting. Every cinema is gambling on 007 changing the narrative for the industry but is bond as much a part of the problem as the solution . After the financial crisis, many films were just deemed too risky or too expensive to make and generally speaking it was the tried and tested formulas that got the green light, and over time that has led to a reliance on the big blockbuster franchises to keep cinemas afloat. Time is running out. Box office takings are well down so far this year, less than 90 Million was made in the four weeks to the 12th of september. Over the same period in 2019, you would be looking at over 125 million. The industry believes it is staring at a £2 billion Coronavirus Hole in its finances. The pandemic has had an impact on the number of films being made but also the type of movies we will be seeing more of in the future. We are actually going to see a lot of films that were made during the pandemic, so you have got horror movies, you have got indie movies, very kind of two handed dramas, so that is really interesting. Obviously people will be thinking about streaming as much as the Big Screen as well because really now a lot of people are going to be taking their movies onto the small screen faster than they did before. For many, the cinema is a Rite Of Passage a first date, a firstjob, a regular saturday night. The question is whether streaming has written the big Screen Experience out of the story of film. Victoria fritz, Bbc News. There have been new developments both here and in the us in the legal case involving Prince Andrew. He is being sued by Virgina Giuffre for alleged sexual abuse. What message would you have for anyone who finds themselves in your position . Just focus on every day. You know, none of us, any of us in this room dont know what tomorrow holds.
