I blame Larry Nasser and i also blame. An entire system that enabled and perpetrated his abuse. Four us gymnasts are testifying at the hearing into the shortcomings of the hearing into the shortcomings of the Fbi Investigation into nasser, who is now serving a Life Sentence for abusing girls. And a month after the taliban take over, the bbc returns to northern afghanistan to see the reality of life under militant rule. See the reality of life under militant rule. ,. ,. , militant rule. Lets start here in the uk, where prime Minister Borisjohnson is reshuffling his cabinet to create a team that he says will help the uk build back better after the pandemic and after brexit, of course. Thereve been some big moves. Lets take a look at them. Dominic raab is no longer the Foreign Secretary. Hes lost that position but been given the title of deputy Prime Minister, as well as taking on the new Role Ofjustice Secretary and Lord Chancellor in charge of the courts. He is being replaced by Liz Truss. She completed a number of Post Brexit Trade deals with countries Around The World and is popular with Conservative Party members. And theres a big promotion for the Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi he is the new Education Secretary, replacing Gavin Williamson. But the big news is Dominic Raab losing the big post of Foreign Secretary. Criticised by many, including some in his own party for his handling of afghanistan. Mr raab was criticised for remaining on holiday in crete while the taliban marched back to power. And there were calls from the opposition and from within his own party for him to quit after it emerged that neither he, nor any other minister, had called the afghan government to discuss the evacuation of translators stranded in the country. Lets get more now from our Politics Correspondent Helen Catt now. Dominic raab presumably was not too happy to go . Ida. Dominic raab presumably was not too happy to go . Happy to go . No, i think looking at this reshuffle, happy to go . No, i think looking at this reshuffle, beyond happy to go . No, i think looking at this reshuffle, beyond those happy to go . No, i think looking at this reshuffle, beyond those who i this reshuffle, beyond those who left government completely, Dominic Raabis left government completely, Dominic Raab is the big loser in this reshuffle. He has been removed from being Foreign Secretary, one of the biggest gigs in government in the uk, to theJustice Secretary, which in the Pecking Order is much lower down, but he has also picked up this title of debbie Prime Minister. That sounds like quite a big job but desirably have any defined formal role, that is usually set out by minister. What is interesting is that we understand that that role was not being offered at the start of the conversation he had with borisjohnson earlier this afternoon, and after lengthy conversation, it was then offered us sub there have been suggestions of he is angry, sources have denied that, but they do say does object to some of the descriptions of his role in handling the withdrawal from afghanistan. find in handling the withdrawal from afghanistan in handling the withdrawal from afghanistan. And Liz Truss steps into the foreign afghanistan. And Liz Truss steps into the foreign office. Afghanistan. And Liz Truss steps into the foreign office. What afghanistan. And Liz Truss steps i into the foreign office. What would the world need to know about her . Liz truss, there was a white speculation she would be the person picked up that will afford secretary here. She does already have an international profile, she has been the international Trade Secretary has been overseeing those lot of those Post Brexit Trade deals of the less youre so, so she certainly has some brought some international recognition. She is popular in the party. A fairly colourful picture, it is fair to say, but quite a popularfigure among the it is fair to say, but quite a popular figure among the party here, so that is likely to be a reasonably popular appointment. Another big promotion is and Marie Travailing in and Marie Travailing in. What would you save the point of this reshuffle . Idietitian the point of this reshuffle . When number 10 the point of this reshuffle . When number 10 announced the point of this reshuffle . When number 10 announced this the point of this reshuffle . When number 10 announced this was. Number 10 announced this was happening, they talked about it being a cabinet for borisjohnson to build back better that is a slogan he is using for going forward and he is using for going forward and he has this promise of Leveling Up, raising standards around the country to try and give people the same opportunities very broadly, so the point of this reshuffle is to try and set some of those people in place that he thinks could do that, to that apartment of Michael Gove you mentioned there is a pretty key one. That is normally a pretty junior position, that Michael Gove is very big figure in the Uk Government, seen as someone who really gets things done, so putting him in that role and flagging a ps got cross governmental Spots Ability for this Leveling Up agenda does signify that is something theyre going to press ahead with. What might be interesting is you mentioned nadine dorries, the new culture secretary, she moved from the deferment of health, along with Nadhim Zahawi, now Education Secretary. I wonder if we should if if we should read into that moving two Health Secretaries out. Really interesting, that move, presumably seen as a safe pair of hands, but his hands had been full of vaccine, which is still a concern for it all. , ,. ,. , for it all. Yes, but it is seen as a reward for his for it all. Yes, but it is seen as a reward for his leading for it all. Yes, but it is seen as a reward for his leading of for it all. Yes, but it is seen as a reward for his leading of that. I for it all. Yes, but it is seen as a | reward for his leading of that. He is front and centre of that vaccine programme, and it is seen as eager success of the governments handling of the pandemic so far, so on a personal level this is some reward for him to step up into cabinet. On that wider level, you are right, were about to go into automatic winter, but theres good to be a vaccine booster programme, run after his first dose is 212 to 15 year olds as well, so it is not like that programme is finished, Somebody Else will pick it up. find Somebody else will pick it up. And what about Somebody Else will pick it up. And what about the man making all these decisions . What is borisjohnson s current standing with the british public . If current standing with the british ublic . ,. , current standing with the british ublic . L, current standing with the british ublic . ,. , public . If you look at some the oles public . If you look at some the poles that have come out public . If you look at some the poles that have come out recently, there would suggest some of his recent policy announcements, he has slipped back and he pulls in particular, the rise in the rate of national insurance, which will then become a health and Social Care levy, by1. 25 become a health and Social Care levy, by 1. 25 percentage points, to pay for the nhs catch up, the Back Up in the nhs of waiting lists, and also to go towards Social Care. But that is always liaising to begin rise and that has certainly affected some of his popularity and ratings in the polls, but he had been doing pretty well actually before that, so it will be interesting to see what happens over the coming months. Thanks, helen, for that update. Lets turn to the us, where four gymnasts have offered blistering criticism of the fbi for mishandling americas biggest ever case of Sexual Abuse in sport. The four gymnasts, among them simone biles, were giving testimony to the senatejudiciary committee. Its part of a hearing into the Fbis Handling of the investigation into Larry Nassar the disgraced former doctor for the Usa Gymnastics team. Its estimated that he sexually assaulted hundreds of women. Heres simone biles. I dont want another young gymnast, olympic athlete or any individual to experience the horror that i and hundreds of others have endured before, during and continuing to this day. Of the Larry Nasser abuse. To be clear. Sorry. Take your time. To be clear, i blame Larry Nassar and i also blame an entire system that enabled and perpetrated his abuse. Aly raisman a six time Olympic Medallist also gave testimony. Over the past few years, it has become over the past few years, it has become painfully clear how a survivors become painfully clear how a Survivors Healing is affected by the handling of their abuse, and it discussed the handling of their abuse, and it discussed me that we are still fighting discussed me that we are still fighting for the most basic answers and accountability over six years iater~ this hearing comes after a scathing Justice Department Report injuly. It accused the fbi of botching the investigation. The Fbis Investigation into nassar started in july 2015, after the usa Gymnastics President reported the allegations to the fbis indianapolis office. He also gave the names of three victims willing to be interviewed. That office did not formally open an investigation. The fbi only interviewed one witness months later and failed to formally document that interview in an official report until february 2017. That is well after the fbi had arrested nassar on charges of possessing sexually explicit images of children in december 2016. Heres the gymnast who gave that first interview. Lets be honest. By not taking immediate action from my report, they allowed a Child Molester to go free for more than a year. And this in action directly allowed nasser s abuse to continue. What is the point of reporting abuse if our own fbi agents are going to take it upon themselves to bury that report in a drawer . As well as the gymnasts, senior officials are giving testimony as well. They include the Inspector General of the justice department, who published that critical report injuly. Also speaking is Fbi Director chris wray. Heres some of what he had to say. Im deeply and profoundly sorry to each and every one of you. Im sorry for what you and yourfamilies have been through, im sorry that so many people let you down over and over again. And im especially sorry that there were people at the fbi who had their own chance to stop this monster back in 2015 and failed. And that is inexcusable, it should never have happened, and were doing everything in our power to make sure it never happens again. So that is the fbi willing to admit mistakes in this instance, but many are sceptical they will make changes after this report. Heres the view of a us journalist whos been covering the story. I will be curious to see if theyve changed any palaces, prevent things like this from happening, but there were also policies that were not being followed and very basic pieces of investigations were not happening at all and i think that is also wiped the gymnasts are there today, we have failed to see many federal prosecutions, people held accountable, and a word in my head listening to them as consequences. One of any consequences for people not doing theirjobs . Gary odonoghue is in washington. Theres been some really shocking and moving testimony. It theres been some really shocking and moving testimony. Theres been some really shocking and moving testimony. It has been a reall , and moving testimony. It has been a really. Really and moving testimony. It has been a really, really difficult and moving testimony. It has been a really, really difficult watch, really, really difficult watch, hasnt it . The pain is unbelievable, and really it is difficult to comprehend it, but also what you can see from these demeanour of these young women, the way they have spoken this morning, is that a whole thing has been compounded many, many times over by the fact that they were not listened to, that people did not take action at the right time, that things were left to languish, and they made the point, didnt they, dozens and dozens of other girls were harmed by nasser after they had blown the whistle on him . ,. , after they had blown the whistle on him . ,. ,. , him . Yeah, and the scepticism we have heard him . Yeah, and the scepticism we have heard about him . Yeah, and the scepticism we have heard about whether him . Yeah, and the scepticism we have heard about whether the him . Yeah, and the scepticism we have heard about whether the fbi | him . Yeah, and the scepticism we i have heard about whether the fbi has addressed its failings, whether anything like this could happen again do you think that scepticism is widespread . I again do you think that scepticism is widespread . Is widespread . I think there is a lot of concern is widespread . I think there is a lot of concern on is widespread . I think there is a lot of concern on the is widespread . I think there is a lot of concern on the committee about that, and you heard that from senators this morning. There is a certain amount of cynicism about what the fbi has done. They have fired this guy in the previous week or two, fired this guy in the previous week ortwo, before fired this guy in the previous week or two, before this Committee Hearing was coming up. The other man named by the Inspector General was allowed to retire injanuary 2018. Thereve been no prosecutions, although that is up to federal prosecutors to take those cases, so i think there is a lot of scrutiny going to take place from this committee on the fbi, when they come to write up their findings over how they stop this happening again, because the athletes themselves said this wont be confined to our sport, andindeed this wont be confined to our sport, and indeed not necessarily to sport anyway. It can be in all sorts of areas of life. Anyway. It can be in all sorts of areas of life. Gary odonoghue in washington. Areas of life. Gary odonoghue in washington, thank areas of life. Gary odonoghue in washington, thank you. It is exactly a month since the taliban swept to power in afghanistan and declared the country an islamic emirate. As the international community grapples with the enormity of the change, how are things for afghans themselves . Secunder kermani reports from afghanistans fourth largest city, mazar i sharif, in the north. Crossing into the islamic emirate, a Cargo Train from uzbekistan. This is now passport control. The taliban even have own stamps. An hours drive away, the city of mazar i sharif. On the surface, life appears to be continuing as normal, though many are suffering with a shortage of cash in banks. This was the Blue Mosque, the citys cultural heart, shortly before the taliban takeover last month. Now the group have allocated separate visiting times for men and women. Some are still coming, but there seem significantly fewer than before. My host here is a leading local taliban figure. Your critics would say you are killing off the cultural life in this country. And why do you need to change the culture . Whats wrong about the culture that was already here . Everyone was muslim. We literallyjust came out of the Blue Mosque and saw a crowd gathered in the city centre. We made our way to the middle of it and there are four dead one of them has a note on top of it saying, these men were Kidnappers Anyone who wants to do the same, this is going to be their punishment. All around me, theres a huge crowd of people trying to push their way forward to have a look at the site. A group of young children were rescued by the taliban from the kidnappers. Many praised the group for tackling violent crime that had plagued major cities. But many others here dont feel safe. Private universities like this one have reopened. Female and male students are separated by a curtain, as per new taliban rules. But with money tight and the future unclear, only a handful are turning up. How does it feel, studying but not knowing whether you will be able to work or not in the future . The last time the taliban were in power, they imposed even more restrictions. But however they may have evolved since then, afghan cities have changed much more. The taliban control the country, but still need to win hearts and minds. The head of the european commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, has called for the eu to have the power to intervene militarily without the united states. She made the claim in her state of the union address. Europe can and clearly should be able and willing to do more on its own. You can have the most advanced forces in the world, but if you are never prepared to use them, of what use are they . What has held us back until now is notjust a shortfall of capacity, it is a lack of political will. Her call for a stronger eu Military Stance comes from recent events in afghanistan, when they were caught out when the us withdrew its forces. 21 eu countries had troops in afghanistan as the withdrawal began earlier this year largely as part of the nato deployment. Combined, troops from eu countries even outnumbered the us. But despite their numbers on the ground, European Governments were unable to convince the united states to extend its deadline beyond the sist to extend its deadline beyond the 31st of august. Some think a join the Military Approach might give them more influence. Heres our brussels correspondentjessica parker. I think the Back Up to this is what has happened in afghanistan and Ursula Von Der Leyen did talk about that in her state of the union address, and has been an element of Hand Wringing in the west about that hasty withdrawal. And perhaps as well, it highlighted the dependence that western countries have felt on us military might and do they need to do more to be able to act independently or with other countries in future to safeguard their Security Interests . I think that was partly the backdrop to it, but this idea of some kind of Eu Defence force, active you defence force, sometimes dubbed an Eu Army, thatis force, sometimes dubbed an Eu Army, that is not a new idea, it is something that has been discussed for long time, and that is something Ursula Von Der Leyen highlighted in her speech the political will have not existed previously to make it happen for the does the political will exist now . She has kicked to the discussion into the midterm long grass, because there is good to be a Defence Summit in the new year, which i think would discuss a range of other ways that eu countries could cooperate on some of the things that Ursula Von Der Leyen highlighted as well, things like a cooperating on intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, as well, things that are not quite the same as formulating an Eu Army but clearly she was suggesting a desire for more cooperation amongst you states going forward. Amongst eu states going forward. In less than two weeks, germany is having an election. Its particularly important because voters will decide who they want to replace Angela Merkel, after 16 years as chancellor. And the polls arent looking good for her christian democratic union party. This analysis from politico puts the cdu at 21 , behind their Centre Left spd rivals. Thats a huge fall from 36 earlier this year. The new government will be a coalition between two or three of these parties, but exactly which step into the frame is very much an open question. Ahead of the election, our Europe Editor Katya Adler is taking a roadtrip around germany starting in dusseldorf, ending to berlin. Heres her first dispatch from dusseldorf. Well, Hello To the Hinkle Bakery in germany. Its the first stop on our Nationwide Tour ahead of elections on the 26th of september. Why a bakery . Well, because everyones coming to buy their bread in the morning, chatting about politics, of course, so close to the election. And with more than 30 people working here behind the shop, so much chance to ask people whats most on their minds. The thing about these german elections is that they matter not just inside the country but outside as well. This is all about change. You thought german politics might be addictive and boring . Predictable and boring . Absolutely not. Angela merkel has been chancellor here for the last 16 years. Shes managed the country through various crises but has also come under attack, and so now its going to be a big Sea Change with her stepping down from politics. And outside germany, people are looking as well. The united kingdom after brexit, of course, bilateral relations are more important than ever, and which is the biggest, most influential and richest Eu Country . Its germany. For the same reason, joe biden, the president of the united states, who wants to get a lot done with europe on big tech, on the environment, for example, relations with Russia And China again, it matters to him whos Inside Berlin and sitting inside the chancellery. We also had a chance this morning to ask people buying their bread what theyre thinking, as well as the bakeries, and im joined now byjanne and tim, who has been buying his bread this morning. Good morning to you both. Morning. Janne, you told me that youre so enthusiastic about these elections, youve voted already by post. Whats been most on your mind . For one, definitely climate change. Another topic would be Gender Equality and just the general Age Gap in society between young and old. Really, its a big topic here, isnt it . I mean, such a fast ageing population, right . And the young feel, notjust with Covid I9 but in general, that you have to bear the burden of the older society in germany. Tim, what about you . You havent voted yet. I havent voted yet. My biggest problem is i dont know who to vote for. I think all of the three candidates are not really good to do the job, so. The chancellor candidates. I mean, youre one of many, i think. Its record numbers of people who are saying at the moment that they dont know. Is this also because Angela Merkel is going and kind of leaving a hole . She was. Yeah, i mean, she was here for 16 years and we probably knew what we get when we voted for her. And she didnt do a perfectjob for sure, but it was good. And now you just dont know who to vote for. All of them also made so many mistakes during the last weeks and months that you really dont trust them any more, i think. And more to come from Catcher Catcher Katya Adler on her road trip. Top story. Boris chazen has been a reshuffle. Dominic raab is how as Foreign Secretary. He isjust reshuffle. Dominic raab is how as Foreign Secretary. He is just a secretary. This trust is Foreign Secretary, a big promotion for a Brexiteer Moving from the train department. A promotion is also handy to the Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi. He becomes Education Secretary, replacing Gavin Williamson, who returns to the back benches, so thats a very personal Success Story for the Vaccines Minister. And theres a lot more happening with the reshuffle and he followed from it on the Bbc Website, on the bbc app, online. And he followed from it. Do stay with us on bbc news. Hello. In the coming days, the weather will continue with a Rather Gentle Slide into autumn. The days are becoming shorter, the leaves are beginning to show something of a tint, but theres nothing too dramatic to come in terms of strong winds to start taking them off the trees just yet or any especially heavy rain in the short term. If anything, i think some decent spells of sunshine in the next few days. But one taste of autumn i think that we will see is some early fog. Overnight, weve got this ridge of high pressure building up from the southwest of the uk. That means very light winds and clear skies. And as we move into autumn, that is the perfect set up for us to see some fog developing, potentially in areas very similar to those We Saw it developing last night, parts of northern england, down into the welsh marches and down towards the west country. But overall, its a mild, actually slightly humid night, with temperatures in the low teens for some. And then we look at thursday daytime, and our ridgejust slowly continues to keep pushing its way across the uk. That will mean a lot of fine weather for thursday. Perhaps some showers initially across the northeast of scotland, but we should see those clearing as the hours go by. Some fairly widespread sunshine. Could take a while to get the clearest of the skies where any Mist And Fog lingers, but come the afternoon, the story will start to lean to the cloudier side for Northern Ireland as we begin to see a Weather Front approaching. And its that Weather Front, then, thats our biggest Question Mark on our Weather Story for friday. It looks like the eastern side of the uk will be clear with some spells of sunshine. This Weather Front at the moment looks like it could bring some quite persistent rain into Northern Ireland and into western scotland. Later on in the day, some heavier rain getting into the southwest of england and wales. It could also be accompanied by some quite gusty winds. Pretty slow to move its way eastwards, though, that Weather Front, so a real East West Split temperatures 16, 17 in the rain, perhaps 21, 22 degrees towards the east of the uk. It does try and make its way eastwards through the small hours of friday, into the early hours of saturday, and then leave a legacy of perhaps best referred to as showers across the southern half of the uk for the first half of the weekend. Of the two days, i think perhaps sunday offering up the driest and brightest weather, but still some showers possible through sunday for southern england. Hello, this is outside source. Gavin williamson has been sacked as Education Secretary. Downing street says the reshuffle is aimed at putting in place a team to build back better from the pandemic. Weve heard about most of the big names, the chancellor, the Home Secretary and Health Secretary are all staying in position, so there is quite a lot that is consistent. Is still a lot to come, dozens and dozens of people in the government and by the time to get through all of this, perhaps not until later tomorrow, we will then get a true picture of whats really going on. Until that stage, a couple of things to remark on, first of all, the only real tussle seems to have been between a borisjohnson and Dominic Raab. Downing street insists he hasnt been demoted but there is obviously a tough conversation between the two of them over except what is newjob was going to involve. The second thing is, it doesnt seem as if any particular political tribe has won out. It doesnt seem as if borisjohnson has gone for one side of the Conservative Party or another here. The word from Downing Street is that what they wanted to do is promote people who have a reputation for getting things done like Nadhim Zahawi, for example, the new Education Secretary, who has been put in charge of the vaccine programme. Downing street hopes they are putting together a team here that will be able to keep the political promises they made to the public, a new phase, if you like, after the emergency of the pandemic. But all of that is a lot easier to say than to do. pres let s get some more now on the big Cabinet Reshuffle so, a lot of people moving and there are sure to be more in the coming days. Heres former Lord Chancelor and secretary of State Forjustice David gauke on what a reshuffle feels like for politicians. That are very few jobs where you that are very fewjobs where you go into work one morning and discover youre either out of yourjob or being a move to a very differentjob and you will have had very little warning. Gavin williamson has also lost his position. He served as Education Secretary since the 2019 election but faced intense criticism over his handling of schools and exams during the pandemic. He also made headlines last week for confusing two black sportsmen, Footballer Marcus Rashford who is on the left and rugby player maro itoje, on the right. Mr williamson had said he had a great meeting with marcus rashford, who had clashed with the government over Free School Meals during the pandemic, when he had in fact been speaking to itoje. In a tweet about his departure, Mr Williamson said, for more on his departure, heres sian griffiths, Education Correspondent at the sunday times. Perhaps the big surprise is that it has been so long coming, because Gavin Williamson has had a very bad pandemic. Its been a year of Chaos And Mismanagement and head teachers, i think, have been exasperated and frustrated at the education departments handling of the covid pandemic. The worst thing, probably, was last summer, we had the Exams Fiasco and children didnt sit gcse and a level exams, an algorithm gave them grades, the grades were wrong, many children lost their university places temporarily, there were protests on the streets in the government had to do a complete U Turn and award the results in a different way. Political editor of the daily Mail Jason groves tweeted. Labours Shadowjustice Secretary David lammy was Highlighy Critical of Dominic Raabs appointment, tweeting. While Journalist And Commentator Jonathan Lis tweeted his reactions. Lets hear some more reaction from anne mcelvoy, Senior Editor at the economist. I think that a two bi aspects to i think that a two big aspects to it, one is that borisjohnson is aware and sensitive to the fact he doesnt have a grip on his party at the moment. Some people have said that doesnt matter so much because labour is not poling very strongly but he is favouring being in good shape to go for an early election if he wants one and i think he was determined to ram through that national insurance reform, which is really a Tax Rise by another name. But it has caused a lot of discombobulating in the conservative ranks. I think he also feels he has too many disaster prone Cabinet Ministers around the place, Gavin Williamson and to an extent Dominic Raab, they are out of Foreign Secretary and moved, not sideways, i would sit downwards toJustice Secretary. Borisjohnson is often known for gaffes but has a very tactical politician. I think the feeling in number 10 was they had the car but not the strategy to go with it. This reshuffle is intended to address that. Shamima begum, who left the uk as a Teenager Tojoin the self styled islamic state in syria, says she will regret joining the Terror Group for the rest of her life. In an interview with the bbc s Josh Baker last month, she repeated her wish to return to the uk from the syrian Refugee Camp where shes been living since 2019. And she had this message for the government. Im not a threat to them, and that i could actually be useful to society, to help them in Counterterrorism Measures and things like that, and that it would be a waste to just let me rot here. Heres the background. Shamima Begum Wasjust15 when she left East London with two other School Girls to join isis in syria in 2015. Shortly after she arrived into is territory, she married this dutch isis fighter. In 2019, when the islamic State Group was defeated, they both surrendered to kurdish forces. She was found to be nine months pregnant in the Al Hawl Camp in northern syria. That same year, her british citizenship was revoked by the Home Office on national security grounds. She lost that baby, and says shed lost two previous infants. In 2019, the bbc s Quentin Sommerville interviewed begum from the camp, asking her about the manchester bombings, carried out two years before by an isis suicide bomber. 22 people were killed in manchester. Would she offer the victims an apology . This is some of what she said. I do feel that it is wrong that innocent people did get killed. Like, its one thing to kill a soldier. Its fine. Its self defense. But to kill people like women and children, like the women and children being killed right now unjustly with bombings, its a two way think, really, because women and children are being killed back in the islamic state right now. And its kind of retaliation. Theirjustification was it was retaliation, so i thought, ok, that is a fairjustification. Two years later, Shamima Begum says she regrets those comments. Do you regretjoining isis . Of course. I will regret it for the rest of my life. Whether you can see it on my face or not, it kills me inside. I lose sleep over it. And why is it you regretjoining isis . Because Isis Ruin peoples lives, Isis Ruined my life, my familys life, and i will have to live with that. I mean, when you think back to being part of a group that did commit genocide, that did murder, that did carry out attacks Around The World, how does that feel . It makes me sick to my stomach, really. It makes me hate myself. So, her views have changed. So has her appearance. Let me show you those pictures from the 2019 interview again. You can see shes wearing an abaya and a hijab, worn by many muslim women. Shes19 years old here. And here she is in august, shes 22 now. Stay with us On Outside source, still to come we go to Saudi Arabia were researchers believe the sculptures are 6000 years older than previously thought, we talk to the archaeologist who made that discovery. Four amateur astronauts will be in a Spacex Space Capsule paid for by a billionaire. Since the earliest launches, fewer than 600 people have made the journey into space. And most were military trained personnel. But now, four amateur astronauts are about to head into orbit. Their mission has been paid for by Billionaire Businessman jared isaacman. He says the aim is to raise money for charity, so he has given three other seats on the Spacex Capsule to people with inspirational stories. Sian proctor is a geoscientist who once came close to being selected as a nasa astronaut. And Hayley Arceneaux overcame Bone Cancer as a child and now works for the hospital that treated her. I remember getting off the phone and my hands were shaking. It was just so exhilarating. This is definitely not something i ever imagined would happen but i think that is what makes it so fun for me. The team has had just six months of training but computers will do most of the work during the flight. None of the crew, though, has been in space before, and no professional astronauts will bejoining them on board. You have got these four people who will be in a very hostile environment in space, trusting their lives on the technology, on the automation and on the knowledge of people in mission control. With the rocket ready to launch in a few hours, the amateur astronauts will spend three days orbiting the earth. The price of the mission has not been disclosed but it is likely to be tens of millions of dollars. For now, flights like these remain the preserve of the super rich, even if they take a few people along for the ride. This is outside source live from the bbc newsroom. Our Lead Story in the uk, Dominic Raab has lost his job as the Foreign Secretary in a major ministerial reshuffle. Hed been criticised over his handling of afghanistan and will stay in cabinet. Lets turn to the korean peninsula, where a mini Arms Race seems to be unfolding. In just the last few days, a series of Missile Tests were carried out by both North And South korea. On wednesday, just 48 hours after testing a cruise missile, North Korea fired two ballistic devices injapans direction. Heres the japanese Prime Minister. Translation the action is threatening the Peace L and security of our country and the region. They are also violating un Security Council resolutions. We will strongly protest and condemn the launches. We will do our utmost to analyse the information and provided to people swiftly and accurately. Just a few hours later, South Korea conducted its own test, a planned launch of a ballistic missile from a submarine. President moonjae in, who attended the test, said South Korea now had sufficient deterrence to respond to North Koreas provocations at any time, urging the south to continue increasing its weapons programmes to overwhelm North Koreas asymmetric power. Heres the view of one expert. Its extraordinary timing that you have not one but two koreas testing ballistic missiles on the same day. It does speak to the fact that theres an Arms Race in this region that everyone needs to pay attention to. And people are paying attention. China is North Koreas closest ally. Earlier on wednesday, chinas Foreign Minister held talks with his South Korean counterpart in seoul. Heres the ministry spokesman. Translation china has always committed to maintaining Peace And Stability on the korean peninsula, insisting on achieving denuclearisation and resolving issues through dialogue. China hopes the relevant parties will adhere to the direction of political settlement, exercise restraint, conduct dialogues and explore effective ways to find a balanced solution for the concerns. Of relevant parties. North korea has spent more than a year in Pandemic Lockdown and cut off most of its trade with china to prevent covid infections. Thats left it on the brink of economic collapse. However, these tests show pyongyang is still making weaponry its top priority. Heres Professor Delury again. In a way, i think theyve been unusually quiet, first because of the diplomacy of 2018 and then probably because of covid. So we may be seeing the beginning of The End of that quiet period, as North Korea returns to a very robust regime of developing systems. And that includes testing them. The professor referred to diplomacy in 2018. Well, circumstances have changed dramatically since 2018 and 2019, when North Korea actively engaged in dialogue with South Korea and the united states. You may remember the Hanoi Summit in 2019 between kim and donald trump. It was seen as a key opportunity to make progress toward denuclearization. Trump, however, decided to walk out of the summit with no deal. And now once again North Koreas nuclear ambitions are a cause for concern. Heres the bbc s seoul correspondent, laura bicker. Well, within just a few hours, on this one korean peninsula, we have two koreas making two separate launches. First of all, that launch by North Korea. We understand it was a short range ballistic missile, it flew around 800 kilometres towards the sea ofjapan, also known as the East Sea here. These are ballistic weapons, so they are banned under un Security Council resolutions, so there will be international condemnation. As opposed to South Koreas launch, which came from a submarine. Interestingly, this is a missile that is capable of taking a nuclear weapon, but South Korea does not have nuclear weapons. This is a first for South Korea, and it will become one of only seven nations able to fire a missile from a submarine. It comes as South Korea has increased its budget for defence in recent years. And they do say here in seoul that its to counter whats happening in the north. Lets turn to Saudi Arabia where its now believed that a series of Camel Sculptures are the oldest of their kind in the world. This is what they look like, life sized camels carved into Rock Faces in the desert. When they were first discovered in 2018, researchers estimated they were made about 2000 years old. But a fresh Study Research has found that they are actually up to 8000 years old. That makes them older than stonehenge in england, at 5000 years, and the pyramids in egypt, at a500 years. The sculptures are in the remote desert in the north of Saudi Arabia, close to the Oasis Town of sakaka. The area, north of the nefud desert, is well known for prehistoric archaeology. But finding out the age of Rock Sculptures like this is not easy. Unlike Cave Paintings theres no organic matter to sample so Radio Carbon Dating isnt possible. So the researchers had to get creative. Lets speak to one of them Maria Gaugnin is an archaeologist at the Max Planck Institute and Lead Author of the study. Welcome author of the study. To outside source. How to to find welcome to outside source. How to to find out how old the sculptures are . With rock, it is always extremely difficult especially with the camels because there is no parallel. We assembled a team of scientists to come at it from all angles and we analyse the Rock Varnish that formed on them, we did a Test Estimation with radiocarbon dating, we did a Luminescence Dating of Sediment Underneath for than fragments, where you can date when the settlement was last exposed to sunlight. We carried out comparisons with the wider role, there are other Camel Carvings in there are other Camel Carvings in the area that are not three dimensional but with a similar theme. Dominic raab has gone from the job of Foreign Secretary. That play was sweetened by giving him the new title of deputy Prime Minister. A lot more about that, a live page being updated on the Bbc Website, thank you for being with us as we try to keep you updated here On Outside source. This is bbc news, im clive myrie.
