Emma raduCanu says she feels ready for anything after ending britains ali year wait for a womens Grand Slam singles champion, as she beat Leylah Fernandez to win the Us Open in a scarecly believable story. Joe wilson reports. The borough of queens, and the extraordinary progress of one young woman. Shes been absolutely amazing this whole tournament. She has a lot of energy. She so composed and ruthless. Shes going to smash it. You know who theyre talking about. Announcer Canu'>Emma RaduCanu well, there were two teenagers in the Us Open final, Canadian Leylah Fernandez at the top of the screen, as early as the second game we saw intense rallies, and we saw Canu'>Emma RaduCanu prevailing here. Both players settled immediately to display a full range of their abilities. Points were hard earned, skilfully won. Nerves no sign. Two things were clear. We had a final worthy of the Canu'>Occasion And RaduCanu had the first set, 6 4. She was broken early in the second set, broke back like that. Now fernandez was struggling to hold her serve. Did you see this shot coming . Oh, my god did we see any of this coming . 44 years of waiting, one hour 51 on court, and one more serve. It is right to realise what this means for british tennis, but also for world tennis. It was an outstanding match, an astounding champion. Really, its yours its all yours. Its an absolute dream. Like, you just have visions of yourself, you know, going up to the box, hugging everyone, i mean, celebrating. Thats something that you always think of and you always work for, and for that moment to actually happen, um, yeah, im just so grateful for my team that are here with me and the team that are back home and the lta and every single person whos supported me along this journey. These images will be the posters and the posts displayed for decades. If the point of sport is to uplift and amaze, Canu'>Emma RaduCanu is already at the pinnacle. Joe wilson, bbc news. I dont think that has come through very clearly any Media Coverage and what the jcvi said. So very clearly any Media Coverage and what thejcvi said. On the front of the Mail On Sunday, end of pcr travel test, the paper it says the prime Minister Will get rid of this in time for half term holidays. On the Vaccine Passports, it is a bit of a passports, it is a bit of a frankensteins monster, keeps on coming back and then we are told its not come to happen. Might take its not come to happen. Might take on it, i think it was a bit of a blunt instrument to try and get younger people to take up the vaccine, if you want to go to a nightclub in September Youve got to have a jab, which is not the most nuanced way to try and persuade young people to do this. Lets try and get down to the basic facts rather than use the stick. Rather than the carrot. In terms of the Pcr Test, they cost about £100 per person, onto each holiday. If you are able to get rid of that slightly more expensive testing regime, obviously that is a full four Holiday Makers are people who might want to go see Family Members thatis want to go see Family Members that is good for Holiday Makers. It seems the government ascending the signal that they really are trying to dial back a lot of the draconian measures that they introduced this autumn, they are feeling quite bullish at this from their perspective. Joe, there was talk about whether there might be another Firebrick Lockdown in half term, know this headline saying Pcr Tests in time for half term holidays, it feels like that would be very difficult for the government if the numbers were going up, to decide to bring it in. They said they want but inevitably they have to keep an open mind if the numbers change. Yes. Inevitably they have to keep an open mind if the numbers change. Mind if the numbers change. Yes, it felt somewhat mind if the numbers change. Yes, it felt somewhat strange mind if the numbers change. Yes, it felt somewhat strange the mind if the numbers change. The paper says it is a bombshell impact, assessment produced by hmrc for the treasury warning one effect of the 1. 25 Percentage Point Increase may be an impact on family formation. Several mps in Redwall Seat Seat they face a major backlash from constituents. Obviously there is the financial impact and also the impact of the pledge not to taxes that gets digested in this. Joe, calling it Poll Tax two, what do you think about that . Its polltax two, what do you think about that . About that . Its clearly a very emotive language, about that . Its clearly a very emotive language, i about that . Its clearly a very emotive language, i think about that . Its clearly a very| emotive language, i think the about that . Its clearly a very i emotive language, i think the study will be put concerning for the government in terms of the feedback that mps are getting in those red wall areas, and how it looks like this policy is potentially going down really quite badly and that is because, as the hmrc Impact Assessment points out, it reduces the Disposable Income of those on relatively low incomes and they state that could lead to things such as reducing Family Stability and breakdown. You Can see why this is somewhat concerning in the report also says businesses are less incentivised to create jobs because of extra cost because they have to pay more national insurance. A Key Question is why wasnt this Impact Assessment given to mp5 when they voted in parliament this week . Thats a very interesting question because mps might see we would like to have seen this before we voted. Lets move on to a couple of sweet stories, uplifting stories about the power, the good power of sportspeople following on from Canu'>Emma RaduCanu. Both are in the observer. The observer has got an interview with Ian Wright, she has written a book, a fictional book about inspiring children, he says it is me talking to my younger self. I want to show you that. Its an interview that Ian Wright has done along with the Poet And Writer about Ian Wrights own personal experiences and very much been the case of a much loved sportsman revealing the personal side of him, if any but it herdy desert Discs Interview he did, publishers wanted a book out of it so hes written a book about a young football in present Day East london with a chaotic Home Life whose prospects are transformed when some of its spot they also have the story on the inside pages of the teen stars in general, notjust Canu'>Emma RaduCanu but bukayo saka, sky brown, theyre focused and unflappable. I wondered what you both, how you both respond to those stories because they really arent very much Role Models in a different way from Sports Players of the past. Yes. Sports players of the past. Yes, absolutely Sports Players of the past. Yes, absolutely. When Sports Players of the past. Yes, absolutely. When it Sports Players of the past. Yes, absolutely. When it becomes, l Sports Players of the past. Us absolutely. When it becomes, to who is the best nation of being Sport Lovers i think we would see we love it. And now i guess we celebrate their Sporting Achievements but i guess, we are talking about the media, we take pieces out of them as well and ask about their background and find out about them and Ian Wrights thing, i would urge Everyone Listening to listen to that Desert Island discs. Obviously a fantastic footballer for Crystal Palace and arsenal, represented england, great Goal Scorer but hes admitted his own abilities and his tough upbringing where he lived in a home and he saw his mother beaten up, he was abused as well and he spoke very expansively about that on Desert Island discs and a Tv Programme as well and then with the young teenagers, the 13 year old skateboarder at the olympics winning the bronze medal, the England Football Team with jude the bronze medal, the England Football Team Withjude Bellingham and Buckeye Osaka coming through into the England Team as teenagers. The world is at their feet bukayo saka. Gareth southgate said he picked his young squad partly because they were not encumbered by the baggage of failure. So often we look to the past and think the future will inevitably be like that and we are seeing that it is not. Just to add, the focus of these young sports stars have i think is the way they do not have any kind of demons or past experiences that might influence or worsen their performance, to so pure and focused and it makes them phenomenal and what they do and we saw that with Canu'>Emma RaduCanu and with the England Team at the euros. Thank you so much to both of you for joining us and going through the papers. Some really nice things to talk about, which is always good because there is lots of Bad News about. Thank you. Hello. We had a lovely start with some spectacular sunrises for some of your earlier this morning, this one was from from north yorkshire. Further south, gosport in hampshire also getting off to a lovely start. Thanks for that only morning sunrise picture. Today there will be lots of dry and wet weather, some sunny spells coming through the cloud. However it will not be like that everywhere. In wales we have rain on the way and that rain may also affect parts of northern england. More than that in just a second. Here is the Satellite Picture showing a Big Loop of the Jet Stream pullimh this main area of low pressure just to the west of spain and portugal. However we have a Weather Front close enough to the jet to feel some influence and this will bring the threat of rain. It will push into wales. We have already seen rain arrive in snowdonia but it gets more extensively through the rest of the day and will move eastwards so we will probably see rain getting into northern england around greater Manchester And Merseyside and the North West midlands and probably extend across the pennines into yorkshire so you may see rain in sheffield later. A few showers in North East Scotland but feeling much cooler and fresher compared to recent days with some sunny spells towards the south east. Thats where the warmest weather will be, highs of 21. Overnight rain in parts of england and wales. To the north of this, for scotland and Northern Ireland clear and cold, much colder than recent nights with temperatures in the countryside in North East Scotland getting down to about three or four celsius. It will feel like autumn has arrived. Tomorrow we still have Rain Coming across wales and western areas of england and Northern Ireland. This rain becomes lighter and patchier through the day but it will probably stay pretty cloudy. We could see some of that rain edging towards Northern Ireland but some uncertainty on that. Eastern england and scotland staying dry and probably scotland will have the best sunshine of the day. Temperatures for most of us between around 17 degrees or 21 degrees. Beyond that some rain on the charts for tuesday and that clears through wednesday and thursday more dry and bright and a bit more sunshine turning a tad warmer towards the south east. Goodbye.
