I saw isawa i saw a Christmas Tree going up today. I know that the weather has changed, but not that much. It is very different in scotland. Yesterday was the highest temperature and over 100 years. It is cooler and cloudier and wetter. May be useful rain. It has been very dry. All from an area of low pressure which is moving across the uk, bands spiralling around it. Rain in scotland, one in the far north. It is cleared through the central belt. Elsewhere, these are the showers and thunderstorms steadily pushing North And East as we go on through this afternoon. If you catch one of these dampers, it could be quite intense, so there is the risk of Surface Water Flooding and Travel Disruption as a result. If you send spells across eastern areas of england. Still Warmth And Humidity here. Up to around 26 and not as many showers, some major ones moving in towards the later stages of the day. Still these intense downpours elsewhere as we get into the first part of the night. They will continue in scotland over night. Still the risk of some flooding, particularly towards the north east. Slow moving downpours here. Many places will have showers eating on a Warm And Muggy night it will be misty and mikey as well as we start the day tomorrow. Mist, fog, poor visibility. The showers get going again tomorrow. 0nly visibility. The showers get going again tomorrow. Only a limited bright or sunny spell. Not as many showers around but still intense Country Downpours are possible. A greater chance in East Anglia and south eastern compared with today. Eating from South Wales and south West England later on. Temperatures into the high teens and low 20s. This area of low pressure slowly moves away as we get into the weekend. Behind it, we start to pull in the airfrom weekend. Behind it, we start to pull in the air from the north and it will be cooler and fresher over the weekend. More especially across scotland, Northern Ireland and northern england. Saturday, an area of rain affecting northern parts of scotland. There are a few showers around, not as many as there have been. Some places will avoid them and stay dry on saturday with some bright or sunny spells. Quite pleasant if you get to see a sunny spell. Part two of the weekend on sunday, still if you showers edging southwards during the day. A hint of the chance of someone towards the South West of the uk. We will keep an Eye On that. You will notice the temperatures are cooling off over the weekend. Still not Christmas Tree weather. Not quite. 0k, thank you very much indeed. Thats all from the Bbc News at one , so its goodbye from me, and on Bbc One we nowjoin the bbc s news teams where you are. Good afternoon. Heres your latest sports news. England have named a preliminary squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the uae and 0man. Sussex fast bowler Tymal Mills is included for the first time since 2016. He was impressive in the T20 Blast and the hundred. One man not in the 15 Man Squad is all Rounder Ben stokes. He was unavailable for selection as he continues to take an indefinite Breakfrom Cricket for his mental wellbeing. But Head Coach Chris Silverwood has a month to finalise the squad, so stokes could be a last minute addition. England kick off their tournament on the 23rd Of October against world champions, west indies. We fully support ben in any way that he needs to get better. 0bviously, his well being that comes first, his family come first and getting so right is the right thing to do. He is a huge miss, as isjofra archer, because we had been together so long and they are huge players. But they have to get themselves right and we just want them as humans to feel better before the come back. Meanwhile, indias Cricket Team have cancelled a Training Session on the eve of the fifth test against england at Old Trafford after a member of their Coaching Team tested positive for coronavirus. Louise mcallan, from essex, has been affected by Treatment Delays due to the pandemic. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer early last year and has not been able to start chemotherapy. She spoke to Victoria Derbyshire about her situation. When he told me that i wouldnt be receiving chemotherapy, yeah, it was just devastating, really. I think my whole world just fell out. And ijust said to him at the time, youre just leaving me. You know, i just felt so abandoned. You were told, i think at this point, that your cancer your Lung Cancer was stage iv, is that correct . Yes, it was, yeah. Which for anyone who doesnt understand the significance of that, there isnt a stage v. It means it isnt curable, but treatment can prolong your life. But explain why you were told you couldnt have chemotherapy. He said that i was at risk of getting covid. But then, you know, you cant predict an outcome of a disease. Because i was isolating as well, so i wasnt at risk of catching covid. The chemotherapy would have been tablet form, so i would have been on that for the rest of my life. So, it wasnt as if i would be constantly going to the hospital. It would be. Yes, it would be necessary to go to hospital to have regular blood checks, possibly once a month which im having at the moment but it wouldnt mean, as with iv chemotherapy, you would need to go to hospital more regularly. So, it would be managed more at home. So, i mean, youve given us a little bit of an insight into how you felt when you were told that your treatment was going to be stopped, paused, because of the pandemic, but tell us more about how that affected you. I was absolutely devastated. I couldnt, erm, even think. It was just a fight. Obviously, i was fighting for my life, as with hundreds of people in my position. But it was just trying to fight it and trying to push everything, just pushing treatment. But ijust felt like i was up against a brick wall, to be quite honest. And has your treatment begun now . Im still not on chemotherapy. Why not . Its the same, same reason. Im on a hormone therapy, which is, i go to hospital once a month for injections, and i take tablets daily. But its a targeted therapy, which targets the cell. And its more of an antagonist, rather than a therapy that would. Its just going to suppress the spread, supposedly, for until it stops working, and then theyll probably rethink. Im not sure. Lets return to afghanistan now, where the taliban has suggested women may be banned from playing sport, in particular cricket. Some of the players have become international stars, particularly in T20 Tournaments Around The World, so we wait to see how it affects and if that, but a tougher time for all of those players. There has been so much progress. Afghanistan only contracted female players, 25 of them, towards The End of last year. The icc painted the rules for afghanistan and allowing them to become full members because normally, a country or boards would have to have a national Team And Pathway system for women. So they have bent the rules for afghanistan anyway, but to know that they had actually formed a national team, they were supposed to play sometime this year, so they havent even got the opportunity to play yet, its just devastating for those female players. And just generally as well for the men, there was so much excitement about that Test Match. Ive can see afghanistan play numerous times Around The World and its beautiful atmosphere they do play, the play was so muchjoy, their fans are so full of Excitement And Joy when they play and watch. It is a horrendous situation all around and some really difficult decisions and some really difficult decisions and discussions to be had at an international level as they decide The Future of Afghanistan Cricket. Good to talk to you, thank you so much. Now its time to take a special look at stories across the uk. The vision to build the northern version of the Eden Project in lancashire has reached a big milestone as plans have finally been submitted for approval. But the £125 million scheme is still short of funding. Eleanor moritz spoke to david harland, the chief executive for Eden Project international, and asked him how siginficant Todays Development was. Its a really significant milestone, this. Submitting the Planning Application after six months of very intense work but 18 months of work behind the scenes. Weve been engaging with the public a great deal, weve been working with our professional team. To be honest, its the last major milestone apart from the funding. We can see an image of the attraction behind you there on the wall, and now these plans have been put in, there are more details about it. You havent got long to tell us what it involves but can you give us some of the highlights . So, some of you will know the Eden Project cornwall, and were known for these very big biomes here. What we are trying to do is take the best of the marine environment rather than a rainforest, and were really interested in the rhythms. So, what you will see at morecambe has elements of what we have here in cornwall but it will have new interactive Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Items that will bring it to life whats happening in the bay and within our lives. Youre still £70 million short, though, of the money needed to get the thing built. Thats quite an obstacle still to overcome. Its quite an obstacle. Weve been talking to government, though, over the past two years. Theres a comprehensive Spending Review and in the recent announcements, the great news is theres now a multi Year Funding Settlement being proposed, which is really important, because this is a project will be built over the course of a number of budget years. So, yes, there are competing demands out there, but if you really believe in levelling up, if you believe in the green agenda, if you believe in building back the communities that we want, we think this is a really good way of being a catalyst in the area, notjust for morecambe or lancashire, but the whole of the north of england. Why do you think its failed to attract that funding so far . This plans been around for quite some time. The plans been very active for the last two years, there has been the small matter of a pandemic in the middle of that. Now i think attention needs to turn to how we grow back. But were confident this is going to happen and we are really looking forward to being there on the side of morecambe bay, opening up at The End of 202a. Thank you forjoining us. Pleasure. Plans by gatwick to get a second runway into regular use enter a new phase today. The airports launched a 12 Week Consulation for the public to have their say on the proposals. The airport wants to increase Passenger Numbers to 75 Million per year by 2038. Amanda akass is at Gatwick Airport for us now. It might seem fairly optimistic given the impact the pandemic has hired on the Aviation Industry but gatwick say theyre confident the Passenger Bus will get back up to pre pandemic levels by 2025 or 2026 and will continue to grove. A fully electric coach has arrived in Swindon Today as the centrepiece of a campaign to get small companies to cut their carbon emissions. Dave harvey has more. It may look sharp but what really gets electric car enthusiasts excited is the sound it makes. Just the quiet thrum of wheels On The Road as it turns into this swindon business park. And when he gets to work, paul doesnt have to hunt for a recharging point. There are 50 in this Office Car Park to go with the 150 Electric Company cars. And the firm even pays for the electricity to recharge them. Why . Because i think Electric Cars are coming. In our world we are in the business of Leasing Cars and i think it all begins with us demonstrating how we think this technology is feasible, its here, its now. The sales talk, it seems, is working. 40 of the cars they lease to customers are now electric. But ive never seen so many electric Charging Points in one place. Out On The Road, in the real world, how easy is it to find a place to recharge . There is no doubt about it, infrastructure does need to ramp up. But i see that every week, we see that. This summer, if you drove on holiday, as many of us did in Electric Cars, we could all really see the Real Change that is happening. Much more motorway charging Electric Cars, so really i think it is Here And Now and if you are a business you should be doing it because it makes financial sense as well. And this is an electric coach, 180 miles this one does. A couple of hours to recharge it and this coach has a very long road ahead because they are taking this all the way to glasgow to the big climate Change Conference in november. We will certainly hear about it if there are any glitches along the way. The message, quite simply, to get every company to do what they can to cut their carbon. In switching to renewable electricity, using electric vehicles instead, putting in led lighting, and engaging with their suppliers and customers and employees about sustainability, a lot of Sustainability Initiatives you dont really need to use the Word Sustainability to justify. There is cost savings, there is waste reduction, there is efficiency. All of it is quite simple and straightforward, really. Now its time for a look at the weather with nick miller. Quite a change in the weather compared to recent days, cooler, cloudier, with the biggest change in scotland after yesterday to notching up scotland after yesterday to notching up its highest temperature in over 100 years. The cloud today, some rain, maybe useful where it has been so dry. Rain and thunderstorms all sparring all around this area of low pressure that is moving across the uk. Sunny spells in eastern england, but catch anything stampers, the risk of Surface Water Flooding and Travel Disruption. A band or persistent rain across the northern Western Isles of scotland, clear in the far north the mainland. In Eastern Southeastern Parts of england, temperatures in their mid 20s, not quite as hot as it has been, with fewer showers compared to elsewhere. The dampers continue for many into the evening before easing looks at they wont across North Northeast and parts of scotland where they continue, with the risk of Flooding And Destruction into tomorrow morning, but it will be Warm And Muggy out there tonight, Mist And Fog patches making for a murky start in the morning. Showers continuing across North Northeast of scotland and elsewhere as we go through the day and there will be thundery downpours, intense downpours around in places and only very limited sunny spells. The very best rates on will be the South West of england. Temperatures up into the low 20s. They are of low pressure in the weekend slowly moves eastwards. As it does so, the flow of hair starts to come down from the North Or North west. Not going to be cold as such but we wont notice across much of the Uk Things are turning cooler and fresher. Looking at the weekend, rain across northern scotland on saturday. Elsewhere, not as many showers as we have had but a sketching out there but more places staying dry. Although a lot of cloud around, some bright and sunny spells and times and feeling pleasant in those sunny spells. By sunday, shower surrounds, just travelling south across the uk. The chance of Seeing Rain Brushing Southwestern Parts of the uk well keep an Eye On, and turning noticeably cooler across northern areas at the weekend. Uss this is Bbc News. The headlines. Hospital waiting lists in england are now the worst since records began, with five and a half million people waiting for routine treatment. Were past breaking point, it is broken. It needs to be rebuilt, and i think the Government Department of health have to have an honest conversation with the public. The Scottish Parliament will vote today on whether Covid Vaccine passports will be needed for entry to nightclubs and larger live events. Migrant boats crossing the channel could be turned back at sea but the french authorities say that would be dangerous and illegal. A report finds significant failures in the care of three adults with Learning Difficulties who died at a private hospital near norwich. It makes me feel very angry, because i think that if they had done what they should have done, if they had cared forjoanna
