We begin in afghanistan, where the Resistance Leader Ahmad massoud says he is ready for Peace Talks to end fighting in the panjshir valley. The Northern Province of panjshir is two hours from the capital kabul, and is now the only region not controlled by the taliban. They claim they have reached panjshir s provincial capital, after securing the surrounding districts. But massouds national Resistance Front disputes this. Posting on facebook, Mr Massoud said that to reach a lasting peace, the nrf is ready to stop fighting on condition that the taliban also stop their attacks and military movements on Panjshir And Andarab a district in a neighboring province. Its not clear if the taliban are likely to agree to the truce proposal. A heavily pregnant Police Officer in afghanistan has been shot dead by armed men inside her home. Witnesses said Banu Negar had been beaten the previous day, after taking down a taliban flag. The taliban have told the bbc they had no involvement. Meanwhile, across the country, people are adapting to life under the new regime. Our Correspondent Secunder Kermani has travelled from the capital, kabul, to the province of logar, from where he sent this report. Theyve grown up along the Front Line but their first taste of peace is bittersweet. In the final weeks of the war, government forces flattened these houses after coming under fire from taliban fighters somewhere nearby. The home of this School Cleaner was closest to the army base. Its nowjust A Pile of rubble. The Afghan Army frequently accused the taliban of firing from residential areas. Either way, civilians have often been caught in the middle of this conflict. Everywhere we go in this village, people are trying to show us signs of the war where the army used to fire down on the bazaar, where the taliban used to be based, the Ceiling Hit by bullets, that shop over there hit by a rocket. This man saying to come with him. The signs of destruction might not look that much, but theyve had a devastating impact on peoples lives. Now youve got peace, but what other challenges do you have here . And we are here, and i dont see any women around us, so is that because of the taliban . In more conservative areas like this, social attitudes do align more closely with those of the taliban. What local women think remains unclear. Elsewhere today, a female Police Officer was allegedly killed by the taliban, though theyve denied that. By the time we arrive, the local girls school has already closed for the day. Across much of the country, classes are taking place but, for now, only for primary pupils. This village boys school is under resourced and overcrowded, with most taught outside. In the past, lessons would often be interrupted by clashes, the principal tells me, with children cowering inside classrooms. In villages like this, an end to the violence was the biggest priority. But so many other challenges still remain. Will the taliban be able to take them on . Secunder kermani, bbc news, logar province. Well, earlier, ispoke to afghanistan Security Expert Aqil shah from the Carnegie Endowment for international peace think tank. I asked him whether the taliban would be interested in a Peace Deal with resistance fighters. I dont think they have the incentive to do so, unless it becomes a protracted conflict. There are conflicting reports. The taliban claim they have all but won a victory there. The resistance, as you pointed out, contesting that. The taliban, if they could dominate and try to win this militarily, like they have done in the rest of the country. I suppose the issue at the moment, yes, theres a conflict in panjshir, but its also about conflict inside the taliban, getting itself organised and trying to consolidate power. A Guerrilla War is one thing, quite another in an ethnically diverse country to form a stable government. To provide basic services. There is no indication the taliban either have the experience or the expertise to unite a country that has been at war for a0 years. There is a deepening economic crisis. Its a very, very difficult situation, and i dont think the taliban seem equipped to handle that in a way that would be acceptable to the afghan population or those who do not subscribe to their view of how it should be governed. We mentioned the murder of the afghan policewoman, and the fact the taliban is denying any kind of involvement, although people locally are blaming taliban fighters. There is a difference between what the commanders in kabul say, and the authority and the cohesion i suppose. This could be a case of plausible deniability. There have been reports that female judges and Police Officers were receiving threats, and the taliban would like the world to believe they have changed and offering amnesty to opponents, but i wouldnt be surprised if there are more cases of targeted killings, what the taliban consider to be people who worked with the americans, the previous government. Women are obviously a key target of the taliban, and have been in terms of the way they govern, the restrictions on education, just basic womens rights. A Football World Cup Qualifying Match between Argentina And Brazil in Sao Paulo was stopped minutes after kick off, after brazilian Health Officials burst onto the pitch to accuse four players of breaking Covid Quaratine rules. Three argentine players on the pitch and one on the Substitutes Bench were ordered off the pitch and told to go into quarantine before being deported. The brazilian Health Agency said its previous warnings had been ignored by the argentine side. Freelance Sports Journalist Andrew Downie explained the situation for us. A lot of blame to go around today. It appears argentina thought the same protocols from the Copa America injuly were in place, which allowed them to come and go from brazil and to compete without having to quarantine. However the brazilian authorities said that when they came in, four players who played in england, one of the four states where they say if you have been in england within 14 days, you have to quarantine because of the delta variant. They said these players had filled in the form and not said they had been in england, they tried to mislead the authorities and because of that, they needed to take action, because they should have been in quarantine and they shouldnt have been with other players, shouldnt have been close to brazilians or officials in the stadium. What about the issue of Withholding Information on their entry into the country . It is very well known that these players live and work in england, isnt it . The head of the argentine Football Association said, we cant be talking about lies here. We dont know exactly what they put on their forms, but the brazilian Health Officials said they put down misleading information and they did not state they had been in one of these four countries, before arriving in brazil. Do we know why the game started in the first place . That is why there is a lot of blame to go around. The Argentina Team were told yesterday that the four players needed to quarantine, they said they went to the delegation this morning before the game, they said they met argentine officials with members of the Brazilian Federal Police and they told them they had to be taken into quarantine. They said that was not done. They didnt explain. They said the team got on the bus and came to the stadium, and the Health Officials were not able to stop them. A lot of people involved had miscommunication, talking about the argentina players and the brazilian health authorities, fifa, conmebol, it seems to be a real miscommunication all around. Has fifa said the match is going to be replayed . They havent yet. Theyjust said they are going to look at all the information in their disciplinary committee and decide. Four people including a young child have been killed in a shooting in the us state of florida. Police say it happened at two houses in the lakeland area. The Uk Government has confirmed that Coronavirus Vaccine passports will be required to get into nightclubs and some other big indoor venues in england, at The End of this month. The scheme has been criticised by venues and some mps. In scotland, theres growing opposition to a similar measure, which is due to be voted on this week. James reynolds reports. To get into a nightclub, you normally need id, dancing shoes, and a bit of swagger. But from The End of the month, in england, clubbers will also need to show proof of their vaccine status. In theory, all over a teams will have had the chance to be double jabbed by then. The law will apply to everyone wanting to enter a large venue. Scotland has announced a similar plan, whilst welsh ministers say they will not be introducing passports, and there has been no comments so far from stormont. If people are enclosed spaces in large numbers, we see spikes appearing. The best thing to do, then, is to work with the industry, to make sure they can open safely and sustainably in the long term, the best way to do that is to check vaccine status. Here in soho, nightlife has come back, and nightclubs will have to get ready to operate as bouncers of the unvaccinated. It is not yet clear exactly which other businesses will have to do the same. We are incredibly concerned about the idea of vaccine passports, as they have been outlined~ there is No Doubt it would increase significantly the costs for businesses in the night time economy that would be affected, businesses that have been closed for 17 months without revenue. France has already rolled out its own version of a vaccine passports. Used for entry to bars, restaurants, and museums. Despite protests, it is aimed at getting the final groups of particularly sociable vaccine sceptics to get the jab. Here in the uk, schoolkids returning for the start of term, dont get have to think about Nightclub Entry Strategy of vaccine passports. At present, healthy 12 to 15 year olds are not being offered the covid jab, but new advice expected in the coming days may change that. James reynolds, bbc news. The serbian Orthodox Church in montenegro has installed a new leader, the metropolitanjoanikije. The ceremony took place amid Opposition Protests with nationalists accusing the serbian church of undermining montenegros independence. Conjoined twins from israel have been able to see Each Other for the first time after being separated. Sisters, Face To face for the first time after surviving a miraculous marathon operation. Conjoined at the back of their heads from Birth A year ago, Separation Surgery was meticulously planned between major Blood Vessels in their heads. A very delicate task one bleed could be catastrophic. Translation of course, after all the preparationsl and all of the models we have built in a designated surgery room, we specifically prepared for this thing with a surgical Theatre And Vr of the twins and with a 3d Model we prepared in advance. Where the two were attached, there was no skin and skull, so doctors needed the babies to essentially grow more skin. Inflatable Silicon Bags were inserted into their heads and gently expanded to expand their skin slowly. This meant that when doctors reconstructed their skulls after the separation, they had excess skin, which they could use to seal their new heads. We are just finishing the twins separation procedure. It has gone extremely well and im delighted how well the whole team has done. Its an excellent team here and its been a real pleasure to be a part of it. You can reach me on twitter im lucyegrey. Hello there. Sunday was a warm, sunny day for most, hot for some along the south coast. We saw temperatures peaking at 27 celsius in West Sussex thats 80 fahrenheit. We havent seen temperatures like that in england since The End ofjuly. Now, there was some cloud around, and you can see in the highland, the cloud thick enough for some rain, some of it heavy at times. And in fact, that Weather Front still continues to bring some outbreaks of rain as it moves its way steadily south into the north of england. It is weakening off as it bumps into this area of High Pressure, so a band of cloud and a few spots of rain towards dawn. A mild start for all, maybe some Mist And Fog lingering across south wales and southwest england. But once that lifts, therell be plenty of sunshine for england and wales once again, and the temperatures are set to climb. Even a weak Weather Front will start to ease away and some sunshine comes through eastern England And Northeast scotland. A Light Breeze coming from a southerly direction. That means its driving up that warm, dry air, so temperatures peaking potentially once again at 27 degrees. Now, as we move out of monday into tuesday, will High Pressure influencing the story, and as the winds move around in a clockwise direction, well, that means that the Wind Direction is coming from a southeasterly, driving in this warm, dry airfrom the near continent. In actual fact, with a little bit more of the breeze around potentially on tuesday, thats going to break up that cloud. The sunshine is going to be fairly widespread right across the country, bar the exception perhaps for the western isles. Temperatures will be a little bit warmer in scotland, peaking at 25 celsius. We might see 28 or 29 somewhere across central or southern england. Now, as we move out of tuesday into wednesday, again, still plenty of warm, sunny weather, but there is the potential for a few sharp, thundery showers towards The End of the day to develop down into the southwest, tied into another area of low pressure. So, here, not quite as warm, but again, were still likely to see those temperatures peaking into the high 20s. That means that thursday will start to see a change as areas of low Pressure Move in off the atlantic, the Wind Direction changing once again and well see some outbreaks of rain. Now, not widespread, but it does mean that there will be a change as we move towards The End of the week. So, turning from warmer weather into Something Cooler with rain on thursday.
