Lets get down to business. How many Zoom Calls have you been on in recent weeks . For some, its too many to count and thats why the company has reported results that beat all expectations. This is a company that has boomed during the pandemic with User Growth exploding. But what is ahead as we return to the office and schools re open . Despite reporting a 54 jump in quarterly revenues that for the first time just exceeded 1 Billion shares fell by 12 in out of hours trade. Joining me now is rebecca bezzina, senior Vice President , r da, a digital agency. Rebecca, welcome to the programme. So what did you make of zooms results . Programme. 50 what did you make of zooms results . Programme. So what did you make of zooms results . Of zooms results . Look, its not unexpected. Of zooms results . Look, its not unexpected. I of zooms results . Look, its not unexpected. I think of zooms results . Look, its not unexpected. I think as i not unexpected. I think as weve seen the world to begin to return to the way we work and learn, i think we did expect to see, in terms of the long term growth, the outlook to be a little slow. However there is still reporting great earnings, and thats because people havent completely returned it to a normal way of life yet. Returned it to a normal way of life et. ~ ,. , returned it to a normal way of life et. ~ ,. , life yet. When you look at the exponential life yet. When you look at the exponential Growth Life yet. When you look at the exponential growth of life yet. When you look at the exponential growth of this exponential growth of this company, and we all know why, we all had to rely on Zoom Or Microsoft teams, or something else, a similarformat but in terms of what the outlook is for zoom, terms of what the outlook is forzoom, itll terms of what the outlook is for zoom, itll have to do other things come along . Absolutely. What theyve been able to do is be successful during the pandemic, now theyll need to capitalise on theyll need to capitalise on the User Base Theyve got. Building on top of the platform, creating more of an ecosystem, i know they are making multiple investments and things like Zoom Apps and making investments in Zoom Phones and events. So theyll need to continue to invest in those spaces to win. find Need to continue to invest in those spaces to win. Those spaces to win. And its also not those spaces to win. And its also not just those spaces to win. And its also notjust those spaces to win. And its also notjust they those spaces to win. And its also notjust they need also notjust they need to win because their competitors have caught up, and there are many more out there now because, of course, although we are returning to the office, many are not, and this new hybrid way of working means that many will continue to use these Platforms. That many will continue to use these Platforms. Absolutely. We are absolutely these Platforms. Absolutely. We are absolutely seeing these Platforms. Absolutely. We are absolutely seeing a are absolutely seeing a slowdown even in the return to work, with the Delta Variant taking hold, and we are definitely seeing companies will be offering hybrid working environments, as well as in some cases completely remote. So the need for these Conferencing Facilities is not going anywhere, and as they become more seamless and integrated is to have people in physical and digital spaces in the workplace. In physical and digital spaces in the workplace. Physical and digital spaces in the workplace. In terms of new tools, they the workplace. In terms of new tools, they need the workplace. In terms of new tools, they need to the workplace. In terms of new tools, they need to adapt the workplace. In terms of new tools, they need to adapt and i tools, they need to adapt and take on what are people saying about zoom . Take on what are people saying about zoom . Look, as you said, saying about zoom . Look, as you said. Most saying about zoom . Look, as you said, most players saying about zoom . Look, as you said, most players have saying about zoom . Look, as you said, most players have caught i said, most players have caught up, but they are still ahead in terms of investments and trying to further make sure youve got great seamless integration, so its all in one place. Im told that most enterprises will continue to roll over with a Subscription Point of view. Rebecca, thank you so much, good to get your analysis. Nearly 50 Billion that staggering sum is what Football Clubs worldwide splashed out on international Transfer Fees over the past decade almost half of which was spent by the top 30 clubs according to fifa. Here in england, the Premier League Clubs Summer Transfer window is about to close, with just hours to go for any last minute negotiations. The biggy didnt materialise that was England Captain Harry Kane going to Manchester City. Cristiano ronaldo, though, is returning to Manchester United where he previously enjoyed massive success. Also Jack Grealish is moving to Manchester City for a cool £100 million. Will there be a flurry of last minute activity, or are Football Clubs feeling the pinch due to the impact of the pandemic . Joining me now is danjones, head of the Sports Business Group at deloitte. It wont be the busiest Day Weve ever seen, but theres always 1 2 that go right down to the wire. What weve seen with this whole window is unremarkable, really weve seen over £1 Billion worth of spending by Premier League clubs, weve seen the record for an English Player broken, weve seen Romelu Lukaku have the greatest cumulative Transfer Fees over the course of his career, and the two greatest players of their generations move clubs. Lionel messi. So its been a seismic window, albeit with less spending than we had seen in the previous two summers. So its been a fairly remarkable period, but in relative terms, today will probably be quite quiet. But lets see, we will all be wiser in 2a hours time. And Hauerfootball Club paying and Hauer Football Club paying for all this . For all this . The key thing for Football Clubs for all this . The key thing for Football Clubs during for all this . The key thing for Football Clubs during the Football Clubs during the pandemic was getting them back on tv. Thats their primary source of revenue, they were able to do that quickly, they were able to complete the season with a bit of a delay. So the economic hit, similar to the rest of us, they were able to get working in a virtual way without having thousands in the stadium managed to minimise the hit. Getting fans back in the stadiums is important for all sorts of reasons, and the Premier League led the way in that back to full capacity. So as long as theres not further restrictions, we will see this year more revenue in the Premier League then theres ever been before. So its quite a remarkable story at the moment, the bouncing back from the pandemic. The key thing during the pandemic was to get the game back on live tv and provide revenue to the club. Fee for S Headline Figure of £50 Billion over the course of ten years sounds like a big sum, but ten years in terms of footballers moving around, you can figure out how you get to that, i suppose, can figure out how you get to that, isuppose, quite can figure out how you get to that, i suppose, quite easily in a sense. And theres that great debate every year about how much footballers are paid . Absolutely, and the reason that footballers get paid so much is because we all love the game is much as we do, and therefore we want to buy tickets, replica jerseys, sponsors want to be associated with the game, and most importantly, Tv Subscriptions and viewership. So as in any entertainment industry, people pay to watch the big stars, and thats where the big stars, and thats where the money grow takes too. So the money grow takes too. So the numbers that you equate with the if i dont particularly surprise me, and Transfer Fees tend to be around about the level of 20 25 of the money thats in the game. And thats another important point, it circulates around. Most transfer the money passes from one club to another. So it trickles down to the lower levels of the game, although a lot of the trading is in the months that big clubs are buying and selling with each other. ,. ,. , buying and selling with each other. H,. ,. , buying and selling with each other. ,. ~ buying and selling with each other. ,. , ~. , other. Good to talk to you, dan, thanks other. Good to talk to you, dan, thanks for other. British Business Confidence Hit Highs not seen since April 2017 on hopes the economy is recovering strongly to pre pandemic levels, according to a survey. Employers in englands North West and east registered the biggestjump in confidence, the latest Lloyds Bank Business barometer found. But there was caution among companies about Inflation And Staff shortages. 1200 businesses took part in the survey. Joining me now is susannah streeter, senior investment and markets analyst, hargreaves lansdown. Good morning to you, nice to see you. Now some people might hear these headlines and be a bit shocked to think, hang on a second, weve been told we might not have Christmas Turkey on the table because of all the h9 on the table because of all the Hg View drivers and problems weve gotten shortages, and employers really struggling . Absolutely, weve certainly seen all those headlines and, without a doubt, there are sectors of the Uk Economy that are really experiencing problems due to Staff Shortages, in particular the Lorry Driver Shortage as you just highlighted. But there is some expectation this will be temporary and, although Staff Shortages and inflation still appear to be a lingering worry for businesses, overall Business Confidence, as you have indicated, really seems to have indicated, really seems to have soared in august. And i think whats happening is businesses are looking further ahead, and theyve been very encouraged with the easing of Self Isolation rules, for example, the success of the Vaccine Roll out. And certainly there now seems to be less worry about whats happening with the Delta Variant, as well, and other new strains of the virus. So overall theres a lot more confidence in the uks economic recovery. But remember, the uk is coming from a low base here theres been less Business Confidence in the uk really since the Brexit Referendum. So certainly now, perhaps the uks getting back on track. ,. ,. , on track. Confidence is all important. On track. Confidence is all important, isnt on track. Confidence is all important, isnt it . On track. Confidence is all. Important, isnt it . Because on track. Confidence is all important, isnt it . Because if someone is running a business and feels confident about the future, he or she will make decisions accordingly . Absolutely, and remember that businesses have already had to make some very tough decisions over the past 18 months in many ways, its been the Survival Of The Fittest playing out, and theyve already made lots of very difficult decisions to lower headcount, for example, and other efficiencies, taking steps to make their businesses a lot leaner. So i think that has helped, as well, but the Business Confidence that some of those tricky decisions have already been made. It is interesting that Investor Confidence has also increased in august, but not by such great numbers we have an increase in Business Confidence increase in Business Confidence in 37 . So there is still slightly more caution amongst of investors about the Uk Economy. But it certainly way back before pre Brexit Referendum levels. A lot more confident swelling around. Susanna, thank you. Lets get some of the days other news. Nike is giving all its staff at its Head Office in oregon a week off to support their mental health. Hurricane ida brings life threatening floods as the Storm Moves from louisiana into mississippi. China has reduced the playing time for young gamers to three hours a week. Gaming companies like Tencent And Alibaba have been ordered to cut their services to those under 18. Lets go to our Asia Business Reporter kate silver, who is following the story. Katie, you can imagine for Gaming Companies, this is a huge blow because that Age Group is so keen on gaming. They are, but they dont actually make a huge amount of money from this Age Group. It is quite specific, the Regulations Theyll have to follow. So young people will only be able to use it between the hours of. This is a huge drop from what had been early, which was about 1. 5 hours every day. So as a result, we are seeing the likes of tencent down about 3. 5 here in asian trade trading. Now this is the market they want to attract for the future, so there are tens of millions of gamers online in china. The extent to which this addiction for some is such a problem we heard beijing call it a spiritual opioid recently. As part of these ongoing restrictions, we will also see these Gaming Companies have to link their Platforms to State Addiction services so that people can seek help when needed. Apparently this is about beijing trying to encourage its young people towards more productive activities for the future workforce. Now of course this comes on the backdrop of a wider crackdown we are seeing particularly when it comes to technology, like with Alibaba And App groups listing its company delayed at the 11th hour, as well as when it comes to dd. This has been extended to dd. This has been extended to other sectors as well, most recently weve been talking about the crackdown that comes to the Liquor Industry as well as. Now with this extension, further crackdown when it comes to the gaming sector, it may be beijing is trying to use a Clamp Down on companies in order to encourage the social change that its desiring. Interesting, so much to debate there. Katie, thank you. This week, were looking at the new generation of women who are emerging as business leaders in asia. Following what was a new record the night before on wall street, this is how things are faring at the moment in asia. You can see the price of oil has come off by a third, price of oil has been Hit A Degree by whats going on with hurricane ida. In the us, we had a Record Close on monday, so those are the markets. Movie markets today, there is concern about economic growth in china, Factory Activity expanded in a slower pace than in august, and injapan that had industrial output figures showing its rank in the month ofjuly, which is a lot to do with Car Production being stalled because of a Chip Shortage as well as other challenges. You are now up to date, ill see you soon. Hello there. Many parts of the uk will have another cool and cloudy day on tuesday. On monday, the sunshine was restricted more to sheltered western areas of the uk. We had some sunshine in the southwest before the cloud increased, and temperatures reached 20 celsius in plymouth. Highest temperature was in castlederg, in country tyrone, northern ireland. Only 15 celsius In Aberdeen and scarborough. And this was the cool, grey picture that we had in hull, in east yorkshire. Weve got High Pressure still sitting to the northwest of the uk, but the winds around it coming in from the north sea, pushing in the cloud, and we start tuesday with a blanket of cloud across most of england and wales, temperatures 11 13 celsius. Clouds a Bit Thinner in scotland and northern ireland, so its a Bit Cooler here first thing. We should see a bit more sunshine breaking through the cloud, across some central parts of Western Scotland and northern ireland, as well and im hopeful that across East Anglia and southeast, the cloud will thin and break to give some sunshine at times. Further north across Eastern Parts of england likely to keep a lot of cloud. Still maybe some drizzle, too. The winds coming in off the north sea, so its not going to be very warm down the East Coast of scotland, nor indeed the East Coast of england, temperatures 15 17 celsius at best in the sunshine, making 20 celsius once again. Many places ending the day cloudy on tuesday, but it should be a decent end to the day for northern ireland, some Western Parts of scotland. Now, the High Pressure is still sitting to the northwest of the uk on wednesday. Its not going anywhere just yet. So weve got stronger winds down the East Coast of england, through the english channel, and affecting the southeast of england. And here, i think there will be more cloud on wednesday. Back to cloudy skies, maybe a bit of drizzle, too. Looks pretty cloudy across most of england and wales. We may get some sunshine in cumbria, or likely in northern ireland, and perhaps more of scotland where temperatures will reach 20 21 celsius in the central lowlands. Not too much change, really, on thursday. The winds probably a bit lighter on thursday, but still looks cloudy for most of england and wales. Maybe getting some sunshine in cumbria, west wales. Again, the sunnier, bluer skies more likely in scotland and northern ireland. Temperatures under the cloud around 18 19 celsius. As we head into the weekend, though, as High Pressure starts to move away, there are signs of more unsettled weather with rain on the horizon.
