It is an historic moment, really, because not only has the uk are left out of kabul come to an end, but British Military Operations which have been going on in afghanistan for 20 years are now over. Yes. Have been going on in afghanistan for 20 years are now over. Yes, as Ou Sa , for 20 years are now over. Yes, as yOu Say. It for 20 years are now over. Yes, as yOu Say. Yes, as yOu Say, it is an historic moment, | yOu Say, it is an historic moment, and it has been confirmed in the last few minutes that the last flight has taken off, that is the last flight carrying Military Personnel, diplomats, officials, so why are 20 year Military Involvement in afghanistan has just concluded. | in afghanistan has just concluded. I work 20 year Military Involvement. It was back in 2001 that the uks first ground forces entered afghanistan, initially had a great deal of success but the conflict lasted for the next two decades and also Cost A57 lives of british Service Personnel. Tonight, the Prime Minister says it is time to reflect on their sacrifices. He also wanted to stress what had happened in the last 20 years, positive gains that had been made, Girls Education for example, Human Rights, and he pledged tonight to use a diplomatic, not military means, to ensure that those gains are not redback by the new taliban rulers. What i think also he needs to do is convince the families of the Service Personnel and everyone else that this has been worthwhile. Not rolled back by the new taliban rulers. No major Terrorist Attacks had been launched on the west from afghan soil because of the effort. Perhaps about 10,000 afghan citizens have come as of the country, but there are hundreds who have helped Uk Forces who are now Left Behind. Have helped Uk Forces who are now Left Behind have helped Uk Forces who are now Left Behind. ,. ,. ,. , Left Behind. Because of that we have had recrets Left Behind. Because of that we have had regrets of Left Behind. Because of that we have had regrets of british Left Behind. Because of that we have had regrets of british politicians had regrets of british politicians and british Military Commanders in general is that they could not get everyone out. General is that they could not get everyone out general is that they could not get everyone out. Yes, quite emotional Thins Everyone out. Yes, quite emotional things being everyone out. Yes, quite emotional things being said everyone out. Yes, quite emotional things being said by everyone out. Yes, quite emotional things being said by politicians, things being said by politicians, conservative politicians who are in the military had served in afghanistan, one spoke about his Anger And Shame that people had been Left Behind and to date the chief of the defence, certain nick carter, was saying it brought a tear to his eyes that some of his own friends who had worked with in afghanistan had not got out either. 0ver who had worked with in afghanistan had not got out either. Over the coming days, it will be time for reflection, to look back on achievements and challenges that Uk And Western Forces have had over the past 20 years, but the immediate focus now will be on how the people who have been Left Behind can be helped to land borders, can be processed, and there are many questions unanswered at this stage, for example, how will be up . What kind of documentation will they need . At this stage, Government Officials who have been working frantically over the past Couple Couple of weeks simply cannot definitively answer those questions. Thank you very much, our political correspondent that with the latest from Downing Street. 0n on thursday, an attack killed many people and on friday us Drone Attack killed Two High Profile leaders. 0ur Correspondent in washington, nomia iqbal, gave us details of this latest warning from the us government. He gave a statement earlier today. He was actually giving a briefing on another issue but of Course Afghanistan is still an ongoing crisis here and he was asked about that strike that happened last night confirming the details of that, but he also said that the strike was not the last. He said, i will quote to you, we will continue to hunt down any person involved in that heinous attack and make them pay, and he said his commanders had informed him that an attack is highly likely in the next 2a to 36 hours. Last week, on wednesday, there was this alert made about an imminent attack and we saw those horrific scenes on thursday, so they are taking this incredibly seriously. He did Go On to say that they are continuing to get civilians out of the country, because of course it has made the mission even more dangerous because at the same time you have the us embassy telling us citizens not to go to the airport, but they are still very confident that they can get people out on time. But they are mindful of this ongoing risk and as i said there, Mr Biden has not ruled out striking Isis K again. Earlier, the us confirmed it had carried out a Drone Strike on Eastern Afghanistan late on friday, killing Two High Profile members of is k, the islamic State Group in khorasan. This evening we have received images from the location where it is reported that the Drone Strike hit. The pictures, taken by an afghan media agency, Ariana News afghanistan, appear show the aftermath of the us Air Strike in afghanistans Nangahar Province that the us says resulted in the deaths of Two High Profile targets. The strike took place following the attack at Kabul Airport on thursday which is reported to have killed at least 170 people including 13 us troops. The taliban have condemned the us airstrike, describing it as a clear attack on afghan territory. The pentagon has given more details about the Drone Strike. They have Two High Profile planners, orfacilitators, one planner and one facilitator, that are no longer on their muster roll, so they have lost some capability to plan and to conduct missions. But barbara, make no mistake, nobody is writing this off and saying, well, we got them, so we do not have to worry about Isis K any more. Not the case. As i said earlier, the Threat Stream is still active, still dynamic, we are still laser focused on that and forced protection and we are not thinking for a minute that what happened yesterday gets us in the clear, not a minute. But do we believe that we hit valid targets, bad guys who can do bad things and plan bad missions . Absolutely. And do we think that will have some impact on their ability going forward . Absolutely. What and how much . We willjust have to keep watching the intelligence going forward. Downing street says the Uks Evacuation from afghanistan has ended tonight, bringing a close to 20 years of British Military Operations in the country. These were some of the last british troops to leave kabul following the final flight out for civilians fleeing the taliban. Weve done an extraordinaryjob to evacuate as many as we have, but im afraid its absolutely heartbreaking that we cant bring Everybody Out. For those who could not be rescued, there is Fear And Tension in kabul and warnings of another Terror Attack within the coming days. As Crowds Flock to festivals and beaches for the Bank Holiday Weekend, concerns that it could mean a rise in covid cases. And the golden Couple Husband and Wife Neil and Lora Fachie both Win Gold medals for great britain at the paralympics. Good evening. Downing street says the uks Military Evacuation from afghanistan has ended tonight with the departure of the last british troops and diplomats from Kabul Airport bringing to a close 20 years of British Military Operations in the country. It follows the final flight out for civilians earlier today fleeing the taliban. The head of the Armed Forces said it was heartbreaking that british troops hadnt been able to rescue everybody. He said hundreds of eligible people have been Left Behind. Altogether, the us military says nearly 112,000 people have been airlifted from kabul. Of those, more than 15,000 were flown out by british forces. But up to 11 Hundred afghans and 150 Uk Nationals could not be rescued. Heres our diplomatic correspondent, caroline hawley. Heading home. 1,000 british troops were sent into kabul to get people out. Us troops provided security for an unprecedented international rescue mission. The last british Plane Carrying civilians flew out of kabul this morning. This evening, news that the last soldiers and british diplomats have now left. In all, there were over 100 raf flights. The end of a 20 Year Campaign that was not supposed to finish like this. Weve done an extraordinaryjob to evacuate as many as we have, but im afraid its absolutely that heartbreaking that we cant bring Everybody Out, and that point has been made very strongly, certainly by the Defence Secretary and others over the last ten days or so. Personally, ive probably had over 100 messages from different afghans who i know in my long association with the country, and many of those, friends of mine, wont make it out. And for me, not a day passes without me having a bit of a tear in my eye about all of that. Day after day, british personnel have been processing afghans desperate to escape. Altogether, more than 15,000 people have been brought out by the raf, british nationals and afghans whod worked with the uk, along with theirfamilies. But hundreds have not been able to reach the airport, afghans whose lives are now at grave risk. Its time to close this phase of the operation now, but we havent forgotten the people who still need to leave. Well continue to do everything we can to help them. Nor have we forgotten the brave, decent people of afghanistan. They deserve to live in peace and security. The government has suggested that afghans who are eligible to come to the uk make their way to third countries to be processed, but it could be impossibly dangerous trying to get through taliban checkpoints. And other than calling for Safe Passage, theres nothing the uk can do to help from afar. At Raf Brize Norton this morning, british soldiers arriving back on uk soil. Over the past 20 years, more than 100,000 british troops served in afghanistan. A57 british lives were lost. Their mission began by ousting the taliban from power. It ends with a rush, to a timetable dictated by the militants. Britains Military Personnel have done theirjob, but this is a bitter homecoming. Caroline hawley, bbc news. Tonight, the Prime Minister says this is a moment to reflect on sacrifices that our Armed Forces have made, and he said he will now continue by diplomatic rather than military means to ensure that some of the gains of the past 20 years in womens education, for example, and the extension of Human Rights are not rolled back by the new taliban rulers. He also had a message to the Armed Forces that their involvement has protected this country, has stopped any major Terrorist Attacks being organised and plotted from afghanistan and carried out in the west. So the sacrifices have not been in vain. But i think there will be reflection about right now, a lot of the focus is on what happens to those who have been Left Behind, perhaps around 10,000 afghan citizens have come out to the uk. But many who have helped Uk Forces, hundreds of them are still in afghanistan and fearful for their future. Still in afghanistan and fearful for theirfuture. The chief of defence staff, nick carter, said he had a tear in his Eye Today because some of his friends are still in afghanistan and havent been able to be evacuated. Questions remain about how these hundreds of people will get out. Will new processing hubs be set up in neighbouring countries to help them out . As far as i am aware tonight, there have been no negotiations with the taliban to ensure Safe Passage. This is something the Prime Minister says is his priority, but Safe Passage for those Left Behind tonight simply does not exist. Iain those Left Behind tonight simply does not exist. Good evening. Things are staying dry and settled for at least the next week or so with a big area of High Pressure firmly in charge of our weather. Weve got a warm, sunny day for many areas during saturday. This was the picture in leicestershire a bit earlier. We saw temperatures of 2a degrees across central parts of scotland. Sunday, a similar day, again, its going to be dry and there will be spells of sunshine but there will be more cloud drifting around, particularly in the north. Weve got an area of High Pressure thats sitting out towards the North West with the winds rotating around that. Theres a breeze coming in at the moment off the north sea, so thats going to introduce a little bit more cloud across parts of North East England and eastern scotland. And then, through the course of tonight, that cloud works its way south across scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland. Further south across england and wales, clearer skies through the night, so temperatures dipping down to perhaps seven or eight degrees in the coolest spots, but staying in double figures under the cloud further north. So, this is how we start sunday morning. We have got that cloud in the north. Still that breeze coming in from the north sea, particularly brisk for East Anglia and the South East as well. Lighter winds further west and plenty of spells of sunshine for many areas, particularly for england and wales. A little bit more cloud for scotland and Northern Ireland but there will be some breaks in that cloud, especially towards the west during the afternoon. But top temperatures around about 15 in aberdeen to perhaps 20 in glasgow, 21 in cardiff. As we head to sunday into monday, High Pressure stays out towards the North West, those winds coming in from a North Or North easterly direction. So, they will bring more cloud, particularly in the east during the day on monday, where it will be a little bit cool where youre exposed to that breeze off the north sea. So, around some of these east coasts, temperatures generally in the mid to high teens. Youll notice things feel cooler with the gusts of wind at around 30 mph for some areas. Lighter winds towards the west and it is here that youll see the best of any sunshine. The temperature is a Touch Cooler by the time we get to monday, around about 15 to 21 degrees. Things not changing in a hurry through the next few days. Tuesday, spot the difference very similar once again, dry across the board. Fairly cloudy, particularly towards the east. Best of any breaks in that cloud to be found further west on tuesday. Things dont really change much for the week ahead. Weve got High Pressure still sitting out to the north or North West, so it is looking dry. There will be spells of sunshine, temperatures generally somewhere between about 17 to 21 degrees. Bye bye
