And Marfas Transformation is largely down to the arrival in the 19705 of a leading artist from New York, the late donald judd. With this Space And Freedom he created one of the worlds largest installations of contemporary art. That an artist from new York City at the height of his Career Left New York, he thought it was a harsh and glib environment that did not support artists or their art, and what he created has inspired this whole other group of artists, writers, film makers, musicians to come and have a life here. The artists live and work at the museum, they have a studio space. Jenny was one of those budding creative pilgrims, so impressed byjudds work, she moved from New York to marfa with her young family. Then there are these concrete blocks, judds first works here, which were met with bemusement by many locals. Some of the jokes were they look like cattle pens, and there was scepticism at first, but the local people who have come and walked these pieces have a sense of belovedness towards them. Marfa was just a small town, kind of dying, there were more Mom And Pop shops back then. And the thing that changed this town was what . It was art that changed the town. You could say it saved the town. Marfa never had a restaurant, or New York or asian food, different types of food, things like that, we didnt have nice hotels. Initially, it was a culture clash, and the locals werent too keen on the new breed. They butted heads, they didnt like it, they were very prejudiced against one another, and now theyve learned to coexist, and its getting better and better and will continue to get better and better. Ken was part of this exclusive world as he ran a Luxury Resort Catering for Hollywoods Millionaire celebrities. Everybody in the Film Industry would come here because they had privacy, by and large. They built homes here, they bought homes here, and so thats where we got the Movie Economy and we had everybody from Bob Hope to sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and all those people, they were all super nice and. So you met Elizabeth Taylor then . Oh, yeah. Elizabeth taylor was a sweetheart, yeah, she and barbra streisand. By the mid � 60s, Palm Springs had more Swimming Pools per capita than anywhere else in the world. And i tell you what, its absolutely beautiful. Like a church. And this is one reason why so many people make the trip to the californian coastline, for its beautiful weather and beaches. So with 2000 miles under my belt, having travelled Coast To coast, i kind of realise its difficult to talk about a single shared American Dream when this country has become so diverse. I think most of us will see both of these things the Dry Weather and the sunny spells. Its not a completely clear cut story, however, and for many others, its a bank holiday weekend. So all eyes on the Weather Forecast as far as that goes. You can see this gap in the cloud here on the satellite image. Thats because of the High Pressure. Its keeping these Weather Fronts away, keeping areas of low pressure at bay and it will continue to do so over the next couple of days. Lets have a look at the finer detail then breezy across south Eastern Parts of england. We may catch the odd shower here as well. Dry for most of us. Any Mist And Fog patches will continue to lift and clear through this afternoon. The exception, i think, being across parts of northern ireland, Western Coastal Parts of scotland in particular, some low cloud, Mist And Fog will linger here. There we go, quick look at the winds there. And we are in a relatively mild Air Mass at the moment, so temperatures probably getting to around 20 or 21 celsius at best. Cooler where we see that cloud, and of course, breezier along the south Eastern Coastal Parts in particular. Now through this evening we will see the return of some low cloud, some Mist And Fog as well, especially across parts of northern ireland, scotland. This will want to kind of extend down as well into northern parts of england. Not as chilly as last night, however, with our Lows Tonight 11 or 12 celsius. It is shifting a little bit further towards the west, however, and that will draw in a bit more of a breeze along those Eastern Coastal Parts. And on that breeze, i think, we will tend to see a bit more in the way of cloud cover. So, west is best, i think as far as any sunny spells are concerned. The south west, parts of wales, the North West of england, up towards cumbria as well, potentially seeing more in the way of that brightness and sunshine. But sunny spells elsewhere, i think. We see the winds swirling around it like this in a clockwise fashion.
