Nhs organisations in england are being told to prepare for a possible extension of the Covid Vaccination Programme to all 12 to 15 year olds. The eating Disorder Charity Beat say theres been a significant increase in people asking for help with a Binge Eating disorder in the uk normally once a day. Can be, maybe, one to two times a day. It is a daily battle, yeah, i am at a point where i am desperate. I desperately want help. Hello and welcome if youre watching in the uk or around the world. Huge crowds are still gathering At The Gates of Kabul Airport despite warnings by britain and the United States about threats of a Terror Attack there. Military commanders are warning that jihadis from the islamic State Group may carry out Suicide Bombings on crowds trying to get onto a flight. Those outside the airport have been warned to leave the area immediately. Graham satchell has the latest. Day after day, for more than a week now, distressing pictures of afghans at Kabul Airport desperate to leave. Now a new warning from the british and american governments, who say there is a high threat of a Terrorist Attack here. The advicE Do not travel to the airport. It means a hugely difficult operation to get people out has just got worse. Latest figures from the Ministry Of Defence show more than 12,000 people have so far been Evacuated to the uk. Of those, almost 7,000 are afghans and their families. But an estimated 1,000 interpreters and other staff who worked for britain still need to be Evacuated. The bbc has spoken to one former interpreter now in hiding in kabul, terrified of being discovered by the taliban. If im left here, i will be killed by them as soon as they find me. So it will be very important for me to get as soon as possible to the uk because i worked for three years with the british forces and so the taliban will never, ever leave me alive. 0vernight, another plane arrives at Raf Brize Norton in 0xfordshire. On board, the lucky ones whove made it. But this operation is time limited officially, thE Deadline is next tuesday. In reality, the window will close before then it will take at least 48 hours for british and american troops to manage their own departure. So a plea from a former Military Commander in afghanistan. PleasE Dont leave them behind. In the time thats available in the next five or six days, dont close The Gates lets get the most vulnerable people into the united kingdom and into safety. Notjust interpreters, but those who fought on the battlefield against the taliban, and those who fought that ideology and are therefore under significant threat. The taliban control the streets of kabul and decide who gets out. With the new advice to stay away from the airport, there are now serious questions about how this operation will end, and how many more people will make it to safety. Graham satchell, Bbc News. 0ur Afghanistan Correspondent Secunder Kermani is in kabul and gave us this update. I was at Kabul Airport yesterday and there were huge crowds of people streaming towards the gate, old women in wheelbarrows because they cannot walk, young children being carried by their parents and people in their droves making their way toward The Gates, many without Travel Documentation unable to board Evacuation Flights and some of them with permission but unable to get through the crowd. This kind of information about the possible threat which many suspect emanates from the islamic State Group is less powerful than the taliban, but has a presence here in afghanistan and has carried out devastating attacks in the past, information about that attack is not going to filter down to the people on the ground, they are so desperate they do not know what documentation to bring, what the process is, it is not going to make a difference to the crowd who are turning up but it could make a difference to the safety of those trying to get there. The level of confusion is so complete, i have seen people standing outside Evacuated western embassies where there are no diplomatic staff writing their names on pieces of paper, handing them to the taliban thinking they will hand them into the embassies and to be processed for visas. There is no staff in those embassies. That is the level of confusion we are talking about amongst ordinary people here. They would not be aware. Although people generally are aware of the threat that comes from the islamic state because they have carried out attacks in the past, they will think it is a possibility, but really the priority for the people i have been speaking to is to get out of the country. Something like this is not going to deter them. We have also seen western countries are Organising Convoys at times going inside kabul, the taliban controlled city to bring their citizens out. Us helicopters at times flying into the city and taking some of the vulnerable people out. We have seen reports of officials arranging convoys that are escorted by the taliban into the airport. Perhaps we will see more of this if that threat is deemed to continue in the coming days, but real concerns about how these last few days of the Evacuation Effort will go and we are very much in the last days of it. After tomorrow, they think the us are going to pivot to removing their own troops and own resources out rather than those civilians, those american citizens, those western citizens or those eligible for relocation because they have thousands of troops they need to bring out by the 31st of august. Earlier the uks Armed Forces Ministerjames Heappey gave this stark warning the reality is that clearly if we are asking people to move away, we are effectively also saying that reduces our capacity to process people. Now, you may well see footage of people who have ignored the advice and remained in the queue. We arE Desperately trying to protect them by bringing them inside as quickly as we are able to, but that should not encourage people to travel to the airport because i Cant Stress thE Desperation of the situation enough. The threat is credible, it is imminent, it is lethal. We would not be saying that if we were not genuinely concerned about offering islamic state a target that is just unimaginable. Lets speak now to our Security Correspondent tell us more about the threat around the airport. Iii tell us more about the threat around the airort. ,. , the airport. If you thought the taliban were the airport. If you thought the taliban were extreme the airport. If you thought the taliban were extreme they. The airport. If you thought the | taliban were extreme they are nothing compared to the Isis Affiliate which calls it said Isis Kate, The Americans call it. They have a relatively small number of people but last year in kabul they carried out 2a attacks. They are ruthless. They had targeted schools, hospitals, all sorts of civilian targets. Primarily right now the threat reported is they are looking to cause chaos at the airport. Targets of opportunity because there are around 6000 us and british servicemen and women operating at the airport and this is something they would like to attack where as they would like to attack where as the taliban interested in restoring Security And Order to the country that they now rule. Isis are their rivals and opponents. They want to undermine that. Clearly this warning is being taken very seriously for the us, british and australian governments to tell their citizens not to go near the airport because it may not be possible for the taliban to spot the Suicide Bomber on time before hE Detonates himself that one of the Airport Gates and they are trying to avoid this. In terms of what Isis Kate want, they would want to do this while the eyes of the world were looking at Kabul Airport, what do they want to causE Disruption for . Disruption for . They are the re. And the taliban have a vested interest in stopping the country from becoming black bass, they have pledged it will not happen. Ironically, ithink they have pledged it will not happen. Ironically, i think we are going to see future intelligence cooperation, i never thought it possible, between the west and the taliban to try and stop that happening. Theres been a significant rise in the number of people requesting help for Binge Eating disorder over the past three years, according to the charity beat. B E D is classed a a serious mental illness where people eat large quantities of food without feeling like theyre in control of what theyrE Doing. Beat says its more common than anorexia and bulimia, but isnt properly understood. Jayne mccubbin has been speaking to two women whove been living with the condition and have chosen to share their stories to raise awareness. It feels like a battle, yeah, definitely. Yeah. Its hard. Yeah. Sorry, ive got upset. Its just a lack of thinking, and it just feels like a frenzy. And the only way to kind of get rid of that feeling whatever that is is to binge and to eat until Ijust Cant feel It Any more. Eating Disorder Charity Beat has told Bbc Breakfast they have evidence which indicates Binge Eating has exploded. Calls to its helplines have increased more than 360 in the last three years. Most of that a 220 increase was through 2020 and the pandemic. Lauren is 3a a single mum with a child with special needs, she works in the nhs. Martha is 20, a university student. Both have agreed to share their stories. So they happen every singlE Day. For me, personally, its normally once a day. Can be maybe one to two times a day. Pizzas takeaway pizzas mcdonalds. It doesnt just stop at that takeaway of an evening or fast food. Some chocolate or some chocolate yoghurts. Maybe some packs of croissants, yeah. It is a daily battle, yeah. Combinations of foods, foods i might want separately, butjust dont have the time or the effort to separate. Frozen bread, frozen yorkshire pudding. Yeah a new report warns that a lack of funding for rural Youth Support in england is leaving millions of young people at risk of isolation, loneliness and poor Mental Health. The national Youth Agency is calling for a Government Plan to ensure all children and teenagers have access to support, regardless of where they live. Adam eley reports. We need to get ready. Here in somerset, Youth Work can take many forms. Yeah, we had to make a fire, obviously. We used the flint as a striker. These 12 and 13 year olds have been carrying out Habitat Conservation Work and learning to start campfires. Its very different to what ive normally done, but i do quite like it. The charity Young Somerset provide many other support avenues as well, from safeguarding vulnerable young people to improving their Employment Opportunities in certain areas with poor social mobility. Yeah, ive been learning how to do mechanics, learning the People Skills that i should have and communication. In smaller towns, theres not really much that you can do or look into getting a job. They are mainly in the cities and bigger towns. According to englands Youth Work body, the national Youth Agency, young people in rural areas risked being left behind. It wants more trained Youth Workers to combat an increasing trend for more young people to be targeted by county Lines Drug gangs, but it says Council Funding for Youth Services is 25 lower per person in rural communities than it is in urban areas. Young people have been forgotten about in rural communities in terms of our national focus. Local authority budgets have shrunk, everythings gone to our towns and cities and therefore, if you live in a rural area, you are less likely to be able to get access to those services. In every area, there should be a plan about how were going to provide resources, services, give young People Access to the real support they need. Youth services can also provide Mental Health support, but some organisations say they are becoming increasingly stretched. Alyssa reached out for help during the pandemic. Id already struggled with mental Well Being beforehand and then i think lockdownjust made It A bit worse. And i think reaching out to people at Young Somerset after having the activities with them and gaining their trust with them, it made It A lot easier. She is now volunteering as a Youth Worker herself with the aim of helping other young people. If theres an Issue Or Something that has gone wrong and you are able to talk from experience or from what you have been through to go, look, this is how i did it. This is what i recommend, and then you see them grow from it, its a really, really nice feeling inside. The government says it has given more than £100 million to Youth Worth charities during the pandemic and is investing in schemes to help Youth Workers qualify, but after a decade of cuts to Youth Work from local authorities, campaigners say investment must be provided long term. Ikea stands accused of destroying valuable old growth forests in romania, where it is the single biggest landowner. Agent green, a romanian environmental group, has published a report, detailing what It Claims arE Destructive Logging Practices on areas owned by the company in several mountainous regions of the country. The company has denied the allegations, saying it managed its forests responsibly and followed national laws in each country where it owns forests while Meeting Requirements for fsc certification. 0ur Correspondent Nick thorpe went to investigate in the spruce forests of the Mara Muresh Region of northern romania. Chopping trees to heat homes is still a central part of peoples lives here. But the industrial scale of the logging in recent decades has stripped romania of many of its most valuable forests. Ikea is a relative newcomer to the market. This is one of its partials. The environmentalists raise many concerns the fact it was cut, the way it was done, and the mess they say was left behind. Ikea has become, in the past few years, the romanian largest private forest owner. They claim whatever they do a is sustainable and certified but in reality, we found clearcuts like these which are followed by massive landslides, so the entire mountain is falling down. Ikea owns 50,000 Hectares Of Forest in romania, one of the sources of spruce and beechwood for its iconic chairs and other furniture. In response to our questions, the company told the bbc. Our objective is to minimise our impact on the environment and we are actively committed to improving our operations and exploring better ways of working. We apply responsible and strict management measures that will preserve and even increase the quality of the forest, Environment And Biodiversity over time. To get an idea of the wider destruction of remaining forests which has nothing to do with ikea, i have come here, this is supposed to be part of the maramures natural park, including this reservation. Thousands of hectares of clearcuts. Theres not much left of it. The villagers complain that the hunger of the Timber Industry for trees and local corruption leaves little firewood for them. Translation since the big companies started exploiting forests in the area, we cannot get our hands on It Any more and now they are telling us the forest is exhausted. We know there is wood for the big companies. Just not for us, the locals. All sides of this debate agree on the need to find the right balance between conservation and commercial exploitation. At dawn, emerging from the fog, its clear there are still forests in romania left to save. Seven years ago a piece of Banksy Artwork left outside a Bristol Youth Club sold for more than £160,000. The proceeds saved the club from closure, and its impact still resonates today. Tracey miller reports. Creativity and colour are being served up at this Youth Club in Bristol Today its a graffiti workshop. I had no idea what i was going to end up with, and ijust followed my mind and just. Spray painted and its graffiti that gave this Youth Club its moment of fame when banksy left a piece of work outside its gates. Mobile lovers was eventually sold and the proceeds, say the organisers, saved the Youth Club from closure. The risk was the best thing i ever did for this club because were still here. Were now doing workshops for kids with graffiti and good stuff. So theyre all going away with something special from this. Every one of the kids that come here, they do the cadets, they do Youth Club, they do boxing and all thosE Different things they do it because thats what they want to do in life. The club that stood here for over 100 years also serves up meals for hungry families, and provides a place for excluded children. And the banksy is a piece that keeps on giving. It can now be seen at an exhibition at the m shed. Some of the proceeds are funding projects like this across the city. The thing is, sometimes you can lose yourself in your drawing, and actually get to a better place. Running the workshop is well known graffiti artist inkie. He says creativity is a powerful educator. I mean, weve had a couple of kids who cant really write their name that well and by The End of the workshop, ive kind of designed them a moniker, like a logo, and theyve been able to copy that. But Itjust Sort of, you know. I think generally making It Appear cool and interesting to them really helps with their Education Side of it so they might go away thinking that handwritings, you know practising handwritings cool. I like how the paint goes down, its like. And if you mess up a bit, you canjust go over It And it looks quite nice, to be honest. And heres some of the finished work. And theyre proud of the results quite rightly. Now its time for a look at the weather with carol kirkwood. Hello again. High pressure is still firmly in charge of our weather, and over the next few days and even into next week. Yesterday, the top temperature in the uk was 27. 2 celsius, making it the hottest day of this august so far. Were not going to see anything like that today, we have a cold front moving towards the South West and behind it the Cooler Conditions follow. We also have a brisk breeze coming down the North Sea Coast, so along this coastline, it will feel pretty nippy if you are out and about. For scotland, Northern Ireland, North West england, wales, it brightens with some sunshine, same for the South West, but you can see where weve got this cloud, it will be thick enough for somE Drizzle here and there, but we will see some brighter breaks and dont forget the brisk breeze, especially along the North Sea Coastline making it feel cooler. Here, the temperatures are a wee bit lower anyway, so it is just exacerbating that chilly feeling. In the evening and overnight, we hold onto this cloud and it extends a bit further westwards, a brisk breeze still, some clear skies in some western areas and across parts of scotland in some sheltered glens. Temperatures could fall away to as low as five or six degrees. That will be a real shock to the system if you are out and about in the morning early tomorrow. We are generally staying in double figures, however. Tomorrow, High Pressures still across us, still the air moving around it in a clockwisE Direction as It Always does, bringing in this brisk breeze along the North Sea Coast lines, so for you, it will still feel a bit on the chilly side for this time of year. There will be a bit more sunshine across some eastern areas and some more clouds towards the west. For Northern Ireland and for scotland, you will see quite a bit of sunshine. Highs of 20 22c. As we head into the weekend, you can see the High Pressure is still with us, out towards the North West, so were still pulling in some moisture from the North Sea at times, but we start off on a chilly note on saturday, some cloud developing throughout thE Day, with the showers in the near continent not too far away, we could import one into kent, for example, and a bit more clouds coming in into the Western Isles across thE Day, with highs here of 17 degrees, but top temperatures are likely to be 22 degrees. As we head into the early part of next week, we hang onto settled weather, and again, areas of cloud, with temperatures dipping little bit. This is Bbc News. The headlines at 11 the threat is severe and imminent the uk tells its citizens in afghanistan to stay away from Kabul Airport because of concerns that militants could launch a Terror Attack. I Cant Stress thE Desperation of the situation enough. The threat is credible, it is imminent, it is lethal. We wouldnt be saying this if we werent genuinely concerned about offering islamic state a target that is just unimaginable. But more than 1,000 interpreters and other staff who worked for britain still need to be Evacuated. 0ur Afghanistan correspondent, secunder kermani, is in kabul and gave us this update. I was at Kabul Airport yesterday and there were huge crowds of people streaming towards the gate, old women in wheelbarrows because they cannot walk, young children being carried by their parents and people in their droves making their way toward The Gates, many without correct Travel Documentation unable to board Evacuation Flights and some of them with permission but unable to get through the crowd. This kind of information about the possible threat which many suspect emanates from the islamic State Group is less threat which many suspect emanates from the islamic State Group, which is less powerful than the taliban, but has a presence here in afghanistan and has carried out devastating attacks in the past, information about that attack is not going to filter down to the people on the ground, they are so desperate they do not know what documentation to bring, what the process is, it is not going to make a difference to the crowd who are turning up but it could make a difference to the safety of those trying to get there. The level of confusion is so utter and complete, i have seen people standing outside Evacuated western embassies where there are no diplomatic staff writing their names on pieces of paper, handing them to the taliban, thinking they will hand them into the embassies and to be processed for visas. We have also seen western countries are Organising Convoys at times, going inside kabul, the taliban controlled city to bring their citizens out. We heard reports of us helicopters at times flying into the city andtaking some of the vulnerable people out. We have seen reports of qatari officials arranging convoys that are escorted by the taliban into the airport. Perhaps we will see more of this if that threat is deemed to continue in the coming days, but real concerns about how these last few days of the Evacuation Effort will go and we are very much in the last days of it. After tomorrow, they think the us is going to pivot to moving their own troops and own resources out rather than those civilians, those american citizens, those western citizens or those eligible for relocation because they have thousands of troops they need to bring out by august 31. 0ur political correspondent, ione wells, is at westminster. Politicians here are being very clear about the scale of this threat. . Threat. Thats right. The fco had been very clear threat. Thats right. The fco had been very clear that threat. Thats right. The fco had been very clear that people i threat. Thats right. The fco had i been very clear that people should not be travelling to Kabul Airport because of this Terror Threat. That also includes places like the hotel where officials have being possessing afghans and brits who have been trying to board flights out of the country. We have a bit more information this morning about the scale of this fete. James cp saying there is now very credible reporting of an imminent threat of a Terrorist Attack at the airport, which is white that advice has changed. HE Did say while they are trying to do everything they can to protect people already there, many people have chosen not to stay away. This is the issue and if there is theissue this is the issue and if there is the Issue Ministers are now grappling with. On many people are not legal perhaps not knowing what the advices, leading to further cows and confusion. The reason why this timing is so significant is because the window for these evacuations is now closing. As an armed forced minister told the bbc earlier, that means the fact that this Terror Threat has been issued, this new guidance to tell people to stay away, means that fewer people may now be able to be processed. The reality is that clearly if we are asking people to move away, we are effectively also saying that reduces our capacity to process people. We would not be saying that if we were not genuinely concerned about offering islamic state a target that isjust unimaginable. The reason the timing of this is so significant is because that window of Evacuated beeping is really closing. Us troops arE Due to be leaving on tuesday, but the reality is that evacuations are going to to wrap up much sooner. Really we are in at the last couple of hours of the Evacuation Process because the us need a few days to get their operations out. British officials and military also need time to get out of the airport and out of campbell itself. This is why Ministers Attention are related to what the alternatives are for these so called Third Country Routes. Out of kabul itself. We have heard little information about this at the moment. Ben wallace that thE Defence secretary told us yesterday that people are still trying to flee the countries they should potentially be starting to make their way to The Borders, to third countries, like pakistan on The Border. MeanwhilE Dominic raab telling mps on tuesday they were looking at setting up processing hubs at those places to processing hubs at those places to process applications from outside the country itself. We then heard from James Heappey Today the armed Forces Minister that those Third Country Routes are not necessarily save options at the moment. That is confusion about what the current situation is with the one concern raised is, if that Isnt Clarity about this, if the taliban having a some of these Third Country Routes out of the country, is it going to cause more chaos, more confusion for people trying to escape and potentially put themselves in danger trying to get out . So where might thosE Desperate to flee afghanistan head for now . Big crowds are building up on the afghan side of The Border with pakistan. 0ur Correspondent in mumbai, yogita limaye, explains whats happening. Bbc teams in pakistan have been told by officials and by eyewitnesses there is a huge crowd of people. This is in southern afghanistan, near The Border with pakistan in an area called spin boldak. Again, whole families, all of their belongings in little bags, trying to get out. Many people with no documentation, with no travel permit. As far as we know, at this border crossing some people are getting through. Its not exactly clear Sort Of what criteria are being applied for allowing those people through. There are three other Land Borders with pakistan. At the moment wE Dont believe afghan people are being allowed through those borders, and its also quite unclear what what the situation is at other borders with other neighbouring countries. While we are talking about people who want to leave the country, and while we are talking about foreign nationals in afghanistan, we also know, i have been speaking to people who have the required permits, you know, they have sought asylum in the foreign countries, they have permits from different places, but essentially right now but embassies saying dont come to the airport, they are not clear if they will be contacted. I think what they feel is that us nationals or uk nationals, people who are citizens of these countries, will be contacted by individual officials or embassies. But they are worried, these afghan nationals who have these permits, are really worried about whether they can get out. So they are stuck in an impossible place, where on one hand there are huge safety concerns about going to the Airport Checkpoints that they cannot get through, but also realising that the window to get out, even with the required permit, is closing fast, and so what other options are there if they want to flee afghanistan . The councilfor at risk academics are trying to get some people out of afghanistan. We can speak now to their executivE Director, stephen wordsworth. Tell is a little bIt About your organisation, why academics in situations like this are at risk. We were situations like this are at risk. Were founded in 1933 in response to the rise of the nazis. It was to bring academics and scientists here to the uk to ensure that the skills and the knowledge that they had with not be lost and could still be used by all. That is still what we arE Doing. It is a rescue mission. We get people away from where there is extremE Danger. These are the countrys leading experts in humanities, science, law. The knowledge of the two what they have needs to be protected. We get them to the uk initially in most cases, we have University Partners here who can fade places and funding for them. Ultimately, we hope, after some time yet after they have shared their skills and develop them further, they can then go back and take back with them everything they had and all the extra stuff they required and use that to help rebuild better and safer societies. That is really the mission now in afghanistan and we very much worry for the future of universities in afghanistan. WE Dont know what the taliban is going to do, they had a very bad record last time round and there are other Extremist Groups there. The issue of afghanistans women, many of them are now academics, what is going to happen to them . We have heard reports that women are not being allowed into some universities at all. If true, thatis some universities at all. If true, that is a tremendous loss. 0ur Effort is to take in as many as we can, get them to a safe place, look after them until we hoped onE Day they can go back. You after them until we hoped onE Day they can go back after them until we hoped onE Day they can go back. You have hundreds of eole they can go back. You have hundreds of people who they can go back. You have hundreds of people who probably they can go back. You have hundreds of people who probably need they can go back. You have hundreds of people who probably need your i of people who probably need your help. How are you managing to communicate with an eye to get them safely to the airport when we see the scenes of chaos there, and now this potential Terrorist Threat . The news ust this potential Terrorist Threat . Iie news just now this potential Terrorist Threat . Tie newsjust now is this potential Terrorist Threat . Tie news just now is very worrying indeed. We have some in kabul at the moment, and we are hoping to get them onto flights out, wE Dont know if that is going to happen, certainly not after the news today. Equally, there are other ways. A few people in iran, kazakhstan, travelling through uzbekistan, got to polling. There are a number of routes that people are using to get away. It is not as individuals, there are families, children travelling with these people. It is a very desperate situation. The future is highly unthinkable. For as long as we cannot we will go on doing what we can to help people get away. We have excellent support from our University Partners, we have had offers piling on the from all our partners over the past few days. We are working with the fco, other helpful people, to try to put the packages together and get people moving. Packages together and get people movinr. ,. , i. Of course now it is a bit morE Difficult. But there are many people coming to is being vouched for by people we know and trust, people that they worked with. They want to go back and help build a better place. Of course, their friends and families are still there. I think that is true for all. In afghanistan, when it will happen depends on circumstances and what the taliban actually will do, how the taliban actually will do, how the government develops over the next few years. WE Dont know. It is a very fluid situation right now. Our focus immediately is on rescue. Ministers are facing fresh warnings about the effect of removing extra universal credit payments in the autumn. Two conservative mps have written to the Prime Minister, saying that cutting the £20 a Week Uplift risks undermining his levelling up agenda. The government says its focused on getting claimants back into work, but campaigning charities say many could end up in debt. 0ur political correspondent, Nick Eardley, reports. The number of people on universal credit has almost doubled during the pandemic to almost six million, and since last March Theyve been getting an extra £20 a week. But that temporary uplift comes to an end in october. Anthony is one of those worried about the impact thatll have. £80 is not a lot for some people. 0nce ive paid bills ill be left with probably about £60 £60, £70 for the month. That wont do me a months shopping. No chance, evenjust a single person. Charities are warning about the impact, too. Citizens advice surveyed 2,000 people on universal credit, and they think more than a third could be forced into debt when the uplift ends. Here at westminster, a number of mps are worried, too. 0pposition parties want the extra money to be made permanent and a growing number of conservatives are saying the same. In a letter today, two tory mps tell the Prime Minister to rethink. Peter aldous and John Stevenson say they are alarmed to see the government unwilling to heed the widespread warnings that are coming from all quarters. They add those who receive the money are most in need of levelling up, which the government has made its key mission. Ministers say the extra money was always temporary, and theyre now focused on a plan forjobs. But the pressure is only likely to grow in the coming weeks. Nick eardley, Bbc News, westminster. Right from the start, the chancellor moved | of this uplift . Right from the i start, the chancellor moved very quickly last march to introduce the £20 uplift, and it has been a godsend to an awful lot of people. I think it did show that universal credit worked surprisingly well during the pandemic. The feedback that im now receiving from a lot of constituents, from a lot of organisations who support those constituents, is that the removal of this £20 is going to place a lot of families, a lot of people, present them with real challenges. Not only are those people who are not in it were, a lot of whom are actually a long way away from the workplace, but it is also working families as well who rely on this. I think what well who rely on this. I think what we have seen over the last few months is that with inflation, food prices going up, Oil And Energy and Energy Cost going up. We to make sure it does provide the purpose of providing a Safety Net when people face challenges. To retain that is incentive to get into work and revive those important stepping stones into work. Meanwhile, the former England Captain and chairman of selectors ted dexter has died at the age of 86. Nicknamed lord ted, dexter played 62 tests for england and was captain in the early 60s. He was renowned for the power with which he hit the ball. Arguably this was his most famous innings against the west indies at lords in 1963 when he came in at None For1 and smashed 70 off 73 deliveries. He was later named president of the Marylbone Cricket Club and was awarded a cbe in 2001. Thats ted dexter, whos died at the age of 86. And new dates have been announced for the rugby league World Cup, following its postponement earlier this month. The tournament was due to begin on october 23rd, but the withdrawal of new zealand and champions australia over Player Welfare and safety concerns led to its delay. The tournament will now take place almost exactly a year after originally planned on October 15th and finishing on the 19th of november, falling between the commonwealth games and the 2022 World Cup in qatar. All 61 games are to remain on bbc channels. Thats all the sport for now. Ill have more for you in the next hour. Austin, thank you very much. See later. A new report warns that a lack of funding for rural Youth Support in england is leaving millions of young people at risk of isolation, loneliness and poor Mental Health. If theres an Issue Or Something that has gone wrong and youre able to talk from experience or from what you have been through to go, look, this is how i did it. This is what id recommend, and then you see them grow from it, its a really, really nice feeling inside. The government says its given more than £100 million to Youth Worth charities during the pandemic and is investing in schemes to help Youth Workers qualify, but after a decade of cuts to Youth Work from local authorities, campaigners say investment must be provided long term. We can now speak to nik harwood, who is head of the Youth Service Organisation Young Somerset. How much harder has been providing these services during the last 18 months and the pandemic . We work on giving a positive start young people and in the polemic we were able to deploy alongside statutory services such as childrens social care, police, health services, Mental Health. It has been a challenge because we had to move some of our services online but we were also able to get out into community supporting vulnerable young people which of course at the time especially in the first lockdown were faced with significantly less physical adults who could be a positive influence on them we were able to support them through some incredibly difficult and challenging circumstances in absolute statutory partnership with the local authority insists on the set. On exmoor there are still places that cannot get dial up internet, no broadband, mobile signal is patchy at best a lot of rural area so there is the isolation and there is also a difficulty in accessing the support and services that do exist in the county because of the job. And that do exist in the county because of thejob. And lack that do exist in the county because of the job. And lack of infrastructure in terms of transport and so on and that does include progression to things like further education in somerset does not have university so we have a lot of young people who leave to pursue academic higher education wE Dont attract people back into somerset to study at that level as well. It can be about Employment And Career horizons well where rural counties are often job Richs Career poor. There are lots Ofjobs Job Richs Career poor. There are lots ofjobs that they may be seasonal linked to Hospitality Or Agriculture and there is a lack of progression opportunities there as well. The government says that they recognise the vital role | that they recognise the vital role of Youth Services, that is where they provided over £100 million to charity supported during the pandemic and where there is this £500 Million Youth Investment Fund which is a Manifesto Commitment with this parliament. How are you seeing that money make a difference . I think there are two bits. One is that that, you know, some of that money is a response, of course, prompted by the pandemic and that was put very quickly into services that were under threat of disappearing because of other funding pressures prompted by Covid 19 so that was a useful investment to keep Youth Work services to young people when they needed them. The 500 Million Youth Investment Fund welcome but at international level. It is a very small amount of money when you stretch that across england and think about the volume of young people who benefit from Youth Work. As mentioned in your in the last decade or so of investment in cutting certainly local authority based Youth Services has had a real impact on the Sectors Ability to support children and young people at all levels are what Youth Work is about is about is early intervention preventative services, supporting young people is that there needs dont escalate, their vulnerability doesnt escalate and they become a crisis at high risk and that i need which is very expensive and of course we know the pressures that social care and the police are under in terms of keeping young people safe at a very basic level so i would like see that money accelerated and increased exhilaration in the re professionalisation, if you like, of Youth Work and a recognition of its value which has been demonstrated lightly during the pandemic. Paralympics gb have maintained their impressive start to the games in tokyo , with four golds on day two. Maisie Summers Newton won the Sm6 200m individual medley in a World Record performance. Our Correspondent Matt Graveling has spent the morning at northampton swimming centre where maisie used to train. This is where maisie Summers Newton trained in northampton. For scotland, Northern Ireland, North West england, wales, brightening up with some sunshine, same for the South West, but you can see where weve got this cloud, it will be thick enough for somE Drizzle here and there, but we will see some brighter breaks and dont forget that brisk breeze, especially along the North Sea Coastline, so making it feel cooler. Here, too, the temperatures are a wee bit lower anyway, so its just exacerbating that chilly feel. In the evening and overnight, we hold onto this cloud and it extends a bit further westwards, a brisk breeze still, some clear skies in some western areas and across parts of scotland in some sheltered glens. Temperatures could fall away as low as five or six degrees, which will be a real shock to the system if youre out and about in the morning early tomorrow morning, but generally were staying in double figures. Tomorrow, High Pressures still across us, still the air moving around it in a clockwisE Direction as It Always does, bringing in this brisk breeze along the North Sea Coast lines, so for you, it will still feel a bit on the chilly side for this time of year. But there will be a bit more sunshine across some eastern areas and some more clouds towards the west. For Northern Ireland and for scotland, you will see quite a bit of sunshine. Highs of 20, maybe 21 or 22 degrees. As we head into the weekend, you can see the High Pressure is still with us, out towards the North West, so were still pulling in some moisture from the North Sea at times, but we start off on a chilly note on saturday, bit of cloud developing through the course of thE Day, with the showers in the near continent not too far away, we could import one into, for example, kent, and a bit more clouds coming in into the Western Isles across thE Day, with highs here of 17 degrees, but top temperatures are likely to be 22 degrees. As we head into the early part of next week, we hang onto settled weather, and again, areas of cloud, with temperatures dipping little bit. This is Bbc News, im martine croxall. The headlines this is the scene at Kabul Airport, where the threat is severe and imminent, as the uk tells its citizens in afghanistan to stay away because of concerns that militants could launch a Terror Attack. I Cant Stress thE Desperation of the situation enough. The threat is credible, it is imminent, it is lethal. Ministers face fresh warnings about the effect of removing extra universal credit payments in the autumn. Huge crowds are still gathering At The Gates of Kabul Airport despite warnings by britain and the United States about threats of a Terror Attack there. The armed Forces Minister says there is a very very credible reports of an imminent attack. Those outside the airport have been warned to leave the area immediately. In the past few minutes, the Prime Minister said the overwhelming majority of eligible people have now been Evacuated from afghanistan, lets go to my Colleague Secunder kermani, whos in kabul. I was there at the airport yesterday, still huge crowds of people turning up. We are talking about whole families here. I saw elderly women are being pushed along in wheelbarrows because they were unable to walk, small children being carried by their parents. Many of the people said they had been camped outside the airport for a number of daysin outside the airport for a number of days in dire conditions. A lot of them had no permission to board the Evacuation Flights but were so desperate to leave and just turned up desperate to leave and just turned up in and in the hope that somehow if they show that documents proving they had worked with international forces or foreign charities, embassies, they would somehow be allowed to get through. That wont be the case of course. The huge crowds at their making it morE Difficult for the handful who do have the correct travel documents to be able to make it through. The pentagon says around 10,000 people are still waiting at the airport to be Evacuated as the us mainly to the effort to evacuate all these people gathers pace. Graham satchell has this report. But more than 1,000 interpreters and other staff who worked for britain still need to be Evacuated. Overnight, another plane arrives at Raf Brize Norton in oxfordshire. Notjust interpreters, but those who fought on the battlefield against the taliban, and those who fought their ideology and are therefore under significant threat. The taliban control the streets of kabul and decide who gets out. With the new advice to stay away from the airport, there are now serious questions about how this operation will end, and how many more people will make it to safety. Graham satchell, Bbc News. Concerns also rising about security at the airport with the uk and the us amongst those warning about the threat of an track there. That a thought to likely emanate from the islamic State Group, the group was nowhere near as powerful as the taliban in afghanistan but they do have a Presence Year and a history of carrying out horrific devastating attacks on the softest of targets, so many of these western countries are advising their citizens not to travel to the airport at the moment. The uks Armed Forces Ministerjames Heappey had this stark warning. The reality is that clearly if we are asking people to move away, we are effectively also saying that reduces our capacity to process people. We would not be saying that if we were not genuinely concerned about offering islamic state a target that isjust unimaginable. Concerns also rising amongst regional countries about the effects of any spill over, either from the Refugee Crisis Orfrom of any spill over, either from the Refugee Crisis or from instability within afghanistan. Pakistan of course one of those countries. Pakistan has long been accused about the west and the previous afghan government of sponsoring the taliban, of tacitly supporting the insurgency. We have always denied that. Pakistan has also been a Day Fist Destination for many afghan refugees with many already living in the country. We seen one crowds gathering at one border point, some have been let through, others are still waiting to get free. It is a little hard to get accurate information from the afghan side because so many local afghan journalists have now stopped working or fled the country, concerned about their own security. The bbc was speaking to the pakistani national Security Advisor a little earlier. He said it was important there is no Security Vacuum left in afghanistan as that could allow terrorist groups to take hold. As that could allow terrorist groups to take hold as that could allow terrorist groups to take hold. . , , to take hold. Afghans deserve better from the world. To take hold. Afghans deserve better from the world. Please to take hold. Afghans deserve better from the world. PleasE Dont from the world. PleasE Dont overshadow the mistakes that have been madejust overshadow the mistakes that have been made just by turning a blind eye to what will happen next. History will not forgive us. A Security Vacuum that will end up with the same results for the West Thanit with the same results for the west than it did last time. The uk is much more vulnerable than the us and others. So i dont understand why we keep talking about afghanistan as a commodity, we must avoid It And we must do together. Must do together. Concerns about securi , must do together. Concerns about security. Also must do together. Concerns about security, also concerns must do together. Concerns about security, also concerns here must do together. Concerns about security, also concerns here in security, also concerns here in afghanistan about what the future holds for the country, what kind of rules the taliban are planning on implementing. When they were in power in the 1990s, they implemented a very harsh and strict interpretation of sharia law. They banned women from working, girls from being educated. At the moment here in kabul, for example, the taliban have appeared much more moderate. The town in public has been much more conciliatory, though there are concerns that may not last beyond the international presence. Their town in public. Many afghans here think that perhaps the taliban arE Deliberately trying as a Pr Exercise to appeared much more moderate, much more progressive than they really are, but was of the world was my ice are of them their true colours will be shown. Whenever i speak to Taliban Leaders, they say thatis i speak to Taliban Leaders, they say that is not the case, that they have learnt from some of their mistakes in the past and they want to form what they say is an inclusive government. I must stress that while we see these terribly stressful and kay took scenes at the airport, the rest of kabul is different. It is much calmer. There is certainly a sense of Unease And Uncertainty about what the future holds, but shops are open, people are out and about in the streets, traffic is driving along. Less people, particularly fewer women than usual, but certainly not as chaotic as what we see at the airport. It is quite surreal really to get your head around the stark differences between these two pictures what we see at these two pictures what we see at the airport and what we see in the rest of the country. Just a reminder of what the Prime Minister has been saying this morning. Borisjohnson has said that the overwhelming majority of eligible people have now been Evacuated from afghanistan. He has been speaking to broadcasters during a visit to the Permanentjoint Headquarters in North London where headquarters in North London where he met mainly to the personnel coordinating this Evacuation Effort. He said around 15,000 people had already been Evacuated by british troops and he said in the time we have left, which may be quite short, we will do everything we can to get everybody else out. More than half of patients who need an appointment with a consultant in Northern Ireland are now waiting for more than a year to be seen. New figures covering April Tojune this year show almost 350,000 people are waiting for their first appointment. Thats almost 39,000 more than the same time last year. ThE Devolved Governments Target is for no one to wait more than 52 weeks, but 53 per cent of patients have but 53 of patients have waited longer than that for their appointment according to the latest statistics. Its as the Healthcare System tries to recover services in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Nhs trusts in england have been told to prepare for the possible extension of the coronavirus Vaccination Programme to 12 to 15 year olds next month. Currently jabs are only offered to children if they have certain Health Conditions or live with a vulnerable adult. Thejoint committee on vaccination and immunisation is weighing up the arguments for the move. ThE Department of health says no final decision has been made. RusselL Viner is professor of Adolescent Health at the University College london and a member of the Sage Group of government advisers. Hes also the father of a 15 year old and explained earlier that he thinks caution is needed before rolling out the vaccine to children in the uk. There is a rare but concerning risk of inflammation of the heart that has been newly described with the Pfizer And Moderna vaccines. Look, everything wE Do in medicine, every pill, every vaccine, will have some Side Effects, and we often wont see that until many millions have actually had it. The issue of children, of course, is why are we vaccinating them . And we are not really vaccinating them for themselves, there are some benefits to them, but lets remember the risk of covid for them are really low. One of the main reasons we are vaccinating teenagers is to stop transmission into the rest of the population. If thats the case, that we are vaccinating teenagers in part to benefit others, the Safety Bar needs to be incredibly high. Now, look, other countries havejumped the us, france and germany are vaccinating teenagers and i think we absolutely will be there and it will be a useful thing. But i have a 15 year old, and i like many parents want to know that it is absolutely safe to do. Ministers are facing fresh warnings about the effect of removing extra universal credit payments in the autumn. Two conservative mps have written to the Prime Minister, saying that cutting the £20 pounds a Week Uplift risks undermining his levelling up agenda. The government says its focused on getting claimants back into work, but campaigning charities say many could end up in debt. Our political correspondent Nick Eardley reports. The number of people on universal credit has almost doubled during the pandemic to almost six million, and since last March Theyve been getting an extra £20 a week. But that temporary uplift comes to an end in october. Anthony is one of those worried about the impact thatll have. £80 is not a lot for some people. Once ive paid bills ill be left with probably about £60 £60, £70 for the month. That wont do me a months shopping. No chance, evenjust a single person. Charities are warning about the impact, too. Citizens advice surveyed 2,000 people on universal credit, and they think more than a third could be forced into debt when the uplift ends. Here at westminster, a number of mps are worried, too. Opposition parties want the extra money to be made permanent and a growing number of conservatives are saying the same. Prime Minister Borisjohnson has been visiting troops in london who are assisting the evacuation of afghan interpreters he was asked how long the flights will continue. We will keep going obviously for as long as we can. I think what people should also understand is what an incredible achievement this has been about the Uk Militaryjust in the last ten days or so. The operation has airlifted 15,000 people to this country from afghanistan. There has been nothing like it in terms of Speed And Scale in our lifetime, certainly in my memory. That is equivalent to a town the size of Beaconsfield Or Prestwick or abergavenny or armagh. Obviously there is now a huge amount of work going on to make sure that we find homes, find ways of integrating those people into this country. But we are adept. They are people who looked after our Armed Forces, helped in the 20 years of the uks engagement in afghanistan. It is absolutely the right thing to do. We have got the overwhelming majority of those to whom we own that debt out of afghanistan. In the time that we have left, which im sure everybody can appreciate is quite short, we will do everything we can to get everybody else. I want to stress that this is just the first phase. Even beyond the us deadline of august 31, we hope to be able to continue to people that you can continue to come out. One of the key thing is we will be sent to the taliban, the new authorities in kabul, is to engage with the west, to unlock those funds, safe passage for those who want to come out as obviously the number one condition. You are telling people to keep away from Kabul Airport, you are telling people to keep away from kabulairport, how you are telling people to keep away from Kabul Airport, how great is the Security Threat . I from Kabul Airport, how great is the Security Threat . Security threat . I think we have to be transparent Security Threat . I think we have to be transparent about Security Threat . I think we have to be transparent about the Security Threat . I think we have to be transparent about the risks Security Threat . I think we have to be transparent about the risks and we have to be realistic about what is going on. You will appreciate that there are islamic state terrorists out there, i cant go into thE Details clearly, but we have to be mindful of the security of our personnel. But also of the afghan people who are trying to get out. What i would stress that we are coming now to odds at The End of this phase in any event, in the sense that we have already airlifted out of afghanistan a huge number of people, its the biggest operation of its kind in decades. I think everybody involved, the Uk Military, everybody involved, the Uk Military, everybody involved, the Uk Military, everybody involved at the airport, everybody involved at the airport, everybody who has been helping others, they should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. There is a suggestion that people who cant get to the pot should head to borders. But if the taliban have agreed to that that could be hugely dangerous. I agreed to that that could be hugely dancerous. ,. ,. ,. ,. , agreed to that that could be hugely danerous. ,. ,. ,. ~. ,. , dangerous. I want to go back to what i was saying dangerous. I want to go back to what i was saying about phase one and i was saying about phase one and phase two beyond august 31. Just to stress that we think we have got the overwhelming majority of those eligible under the scheme or the afghan repatriation assistance programme, both those schemes, we think we havE Done the lions share. There will be people who still need help. What we are hoping, this is the key point that the g7 agreed, is that the taliban understand that if they want to engage with development aid, if they want to unlock those billions of funds, if they want to have a diplomatic and political relationship with the outside world, Thenit Relationship with the outside world, then it safe passage for those who want to come out is the key precondition. Want to come out is the key precondition. Are you advising eo le precondition. Are you advising people to precondition. Are you advising people to go precondition. Are you advising people to go to precondition. Are you advising people to go to borders. Precondition. Are you advising i people to go to borders. People should look people to go to borders. People should look at people to go to borders. People should look at the people to go to borders. People should look at the current people to go to borders. People i should look at the current advice. The advice at the moment is that the Security Situation is obviously not improving, but we have got the overwhelming i see iseea i see a second phase where we hope very much that they taliban will understand that there has got to be a reasonable approach to people who still want to leave afghanistan. I would just repeat, sometimes peoplE Dont realise the immensity of what the Uk Military have already helped to achieve. This is, as i say, a sizeable Uk Town of afghans who risked their lives in many cases to help the uk now coming to the uk. Actually, in most cases, they are now here. The realjob now is to make sure they have the housing, they have the skills, the opportunities to integrate into our societies. Our Labour Market currently offers many opportunities. That is a crucialthing. Im proud wages have been rising. That is a crucial thing. Im proud that we have bumped up the Living Wage, we continue to increase the Living Wage last time by a record amount. My strong preference, and i believe this is the instinct of most people in this country, is for people to see their wages rise through their efforts, ratherthan see their wages rise through their efforts, rather than through taxation of other people put into their pay packets, rather than welfare. There have been some heart rending cases, i havejust been looking at some of the Ad E mails coming in from people in afghanistan who have helped us to whom we are the steps of honour and obligation. It is fantastic to see the way we are helping them. But we have got to do it impartially, and thats what werE Doing. As i say, so far, thanks to this extraordinary operation, we have helped the overwhelming majority of people in both the categories and we are going to use the remaining time to do as many more as possibly can. We started off with a fair bit of cloud this morning across the uk, but some of it is already breaking out towards the west. Here we will see some sunshine. Cloud in the east will have one or two holes in it, so we will see some bright spells. But along the east coast with the onshore brisk wind it will feel cold today whereas out towards the west in any prolonged period of sunshine we are going to see highs up to 23 degrees. We hang onto this cloud as we go through the night, if anything, spreading further west. Still a brisk breeze coming in from the North Sea. Where the cloud remains broken, for example, sheltered glens in aberdeenshire or moray, temperatures could fall away to 5 or 6 degrees. Elsewhere we are looking at mostly double figures. Into tomorrow we start off with all this cloud, although it will be sunnier tomorrow across east anglia across east anglia and the South East, but still a noticeable chilly breeze, more cloud out towards the west. For Northern Ireland and scotland, some sunshine. Our top temperatures, 20. Hello this is Bbc News. The headlines. The threat is severe and imminent. The uk tells its citizens in afghanistan to stay away from Kabul Airport because of concerns that militants could launch a Terror Attack. Meanwhile, as the Evacuation Effort enters its final days, borisjohnson has said that the overwhelming majority of eligible people have now been airlifted out of the country. Weve got the overwhelming majority of those to whom we are that debt out of afghanistan as i stand and talk to you now. The growing hospital waiting lists in Northern Ireland. Latest figures show more than half of patients waiting for a first Consultant Appointment are still waiting more than a year. Ministers face fresh warnings about the effect of removing extra universal credit payments in the autumn. Lets return to our top story, and the frantic efforts to evacuate people from Kabul Airport in the face of whats being described as credible reports of an imminent Terror Attack. Earlier we spoke to omaid sharifi who fled afghanistan threE Days ago with his family. He runs the Arts Organisation artlords in afghanistan in his first interview since he managed to leave, he told Victoria Derbyshire about his experiences. It has been very hard in the last couple of days. And i was not able to speak. I could only cry and try to help my friends back in afghanistan. I only got out with just a small backpack with a picture of my wife and my family and my laptop. This Morning Somebody dropped me T Shirts i could have clean clothes. I spent fivE Days in kabul. I saw brutal situations, things that no human should go through. Finally, over the last few days i was lucky enough to be escorted to the airport, and then i was able to be Evacuated. Canl can i ask you about some of the brutal situations you saw . Sure sure. I left my life in kabul throughout. I left when the taliban were in power in the 90s. Ijust remember a scene when i was trying to get a piece of meat from a charity truck, and a Talib Soldier hit me over the head, and the blood was coming out but i managed to get some meat for my family. I saw the same faces in Kabul Meeting men and children who are trying to escape kabul. I saw the same faces when i was in kabul watching a Football Game in the 90s. They would shoot the men in the stadium where the Football Match was happening. I saw the same faces back in kabul with their ak 47s and shooting. It really looked alien. Trust me, these faces in this city, they did not know anything about the city, about the Beautiful Kabul that i used to work, i used to paint, i used to do movies. They did not know anything about it. The only thing they knew is how to fire their guns, beat people, and thats all. I saw women suffocated, i saw kids used as bombs, i saw people shot. People crying. I saw a life with no dignity, a life that nobody deserves. Those situations, Ijust Pray that we went through this, i once went through this, Ijust Hope nobody goes through what i saw. Through what i saw and what we witnessed on thesE Days. Canl can i ask you what it was like to leave your home, your possessions and your friends because leave your home, your possessions and yourfriends because most leave your home, your possessions and your friends because most People Watching will never have gone through that. I watching will never have gone through that. Watching will never have gone through that. I imagine that you leave everything through that. I imagine that you leave everything behind. Through that. I imagine that you leave everything behind. You i through that. I imagine that you i leave everything behind. You dont have any identity before. You are just a refugee. The place that belongs to you, your identity, your friends, your country, your office, your artworks, friends, your country, your office, yourartworks, its friends, your country, your office, your artworks, its all taken from you. Its something that is yours but the next day is just like a dream that you next wake up and see that you have lost everything. Everything. You dont have money, you dont have your friends, you dont have yourjob, you dont have your clothes can either have your car, you dont have any of the Thing And Yourejust running car, you dont have any of the thing and youre just running for your life. You just want to be somewhere where there is no gunfire, there is no beatings and there is no fear that you will be hanged or killed. That is the kind of situation they are going through. There is a lot that we have to process. I know that aes was, the ones, the lucky ones who got out and it will be years to process this but in this moment of time the only thing that i was thinking about was how to get myself and my family out of this statE Duration because i have my sisters and they were all crying all thesE Days that their dreams were shut and their voices will not be heard any more. My work will not be publicised up more. My work will not be publicised up permitted any more. Was told to find another profession because as an artist you cannot do any at afghanistan any more. It has completely become black and white. Just imagine a beautiful, colourful society becoming black white. So, for that sake we just had to get ourselves to this airport with a lot of trouble and get out with the hope that someday we will be back to our country and get back our in identity. So it is very difficult to explain because i am still processing what i saw and what i Experienced. I think the whole world failed them because we gave them hope. They thought that they could go to school, they could go to university, they could get elected, they could do whatever they choose to do. But that is not the case. Their hopes and dreams are shattered right now. Every time i look at these faces and the faces of my sisters, i see that hopelessness, i see that all their lives, all their dreams isjust in one bag in front of them and in an unknown place and not knowing where they will end up. Paralympics gb have maintained their impressive start to the games in tokyo , with five golds on day two. Maisie Summers Newton won the Sm6 200m individual medley in a World Record performance. Our Correspondent Matt Graveling has spent the morning at northampton swimming centre where maisie used to train. This is where maisie Summers Newton trained here in northampton. Shes now the golden girl, it is fair to say, because she was going up fair to say, because she was going up against her Idol Ellie simmonds. We know that maisie back in london 2012 she watched maisie, Committee Watch that when she watch that event and that was where she got the Inspiration Tojump into event and that was where she got the inspiration to jump into the pool. She went into the race for that in 100 metres womens medley and just before the race that record had been beaten in the heats by a ukrainian swimmer and then as we came from the final she came from behind to just about get that gold in a race that included three british talents. What a day for maisie, was a day for northampton and what a day for british swimming. Im going to begin my guest. This is jack buckner, ceo of british swimming. Another Gold Medal to add to the list. What a race that was, wasnt it . It was just incredible. A stunning performance. Just amazing, really. One of the most exciting races ive seen for a long time, and to come back and see the World Record go and to get a paralympic final with a World Record it doesnt get much better than that. It is important to say, jack, we also had Grace Harvey she was in the final as well as ellie simmons. We all know Ellie Simmonds now this is herfourth games. This means that going forward there will be a lot more people like maisie was in 2012 interested in getting into the pool. One of the important things about the olympics and paralympics is to inspire the next generation. Its just so important. And when you see those magic moments thats what gets people into sport, and, you know, gets people on theirjourney also inspires them. And weve seen with the olympics and paralympics almost a change in mood and people have got smiles in the face and so Excited and it is very good for sport and our community and for northampton and just for everyone, really. Thank you very much, jack. Walking in there there were pictures of Ellie Robinson who also trained as a club here in this exclusive swim club in northampton and she won a gold in rio 2016 and now they better get another Picture Fame because they are going to put another Gold Medal on the wall for maisie. Congratulations to her. A new report warns that a lack of funding for rural Youth Support in england is leaving millions of young people at risk of isolation, loneliness and poor Mental Health. This group of 12 and 13 year olds have been carrying out Habitat Conservation Work and learning to start campfires. Its very different to what ive normally done, but, yeah, i enjoy it quite a lot, yeah. The charity Young Somerset provide many other support avenues as well, from safeguarding vulnerable young people to improving their Employment Opportunities in certain areas with poor social mobility. Yeah, ive been learning how to do mechanics, learning the People Skills that i should have and communication. In smaller towns, theres not really much that you can do or look into with getting a job. Theyre mainly in the cities and bigger towns. You know, local authority budgets have shrunk, everythings gone to our towns and cities and therefore, if you live in a rural area, you are less likely to be able to get access to those services. In every area, there should be a plan about how were going to provide resources, services, and give young People Access to the real support they need. Youth services can also provide Mental Health support, but some organisations say they are becoming increasingly stretched. Alyssa reached out for help during the pandemic. Id already struggled with mental Well Being beforehand and then i think lockdownjust made It A bit worse. And i think reaching out to people at Young Somerset after having the activities with them and gaining that trust with them, it made It A lot easier. She is now volunteering as a Youth Worker herself with the aim of helping other young people. The government says its given more than £100 million to Youth Worth charities during the pandemic and is investing in schemes to help Youth Workers qualify, but after a decade of cuts to Youth Work from local authorities, campaigners say investment must be provided long term. Adam eley, Bbc News. Are you all right . Its just a lack of thinking, and it just feels like a frenzy. And the only way to kind of get rid of that feeling whatever that is is to hinge and to eat until Ijust Cant feel It Any more. Eating Disorder Charity Beat has told Bbc Breakfast they have evidence which indicates Binge Eating has exploded. Calls to its helplines have increased more than 360 in the last three years. Most of that a 220 increase was through 2020 and the pandemic. Lauren is 34 a single mum with a child with special needs, she works in the nhs. Martha is 20, a university student. Both have agreed to share their stories. So they happen every singlE Day. For me, personally, its normally once a day. Can be maybe one to two times a day. Pizzas, takeaway pizzas, mcdonalds. It doesnt just stop at that takeaway of an evening or a fast food. Maybe packs of, like, croissants and things. Some chocolate or some chocolate yoghurts. It is a daily battle, yeah. I am at a point where im desperate, i desperately want help. Itsjust eating anything i can get my hands on in the shortest amount of time possible. Combinations of foods, foods i might want separately butjust dont have the time or the effort to separate. Frozen bread, frozen yorkshire pudding. I dont want to be caught, i dont want to be toasting bread, i dont want to put things in the oven. Ijust want to eat as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. In total, almost 40,000 people have called beta helplines about Binge Eating since 2017. The charity says this is likely to be the tip of the iceberg. I think we have no idea about the scale of this problem. My instinct is that its huge. Sarah is a therapist whos tackled her own Binge Eating disorder. Binge Eating Disorder is i twice as common as anorexia, and its also more i common than bulimia. Theres a sense that i youve just lost control. Taking food out of the rubbish bin, taking food that doesnt belong to them. All of this is really common, so if anybodys watching this, i would just want to say i that youre not alone. Lauren tells me she hides evidence of binges. Instead of, Sort Of, routinely putting the waste or the rubbish in my kitchen bin, i would fill a black bag and put it straight into the bin so that if anybody came round and they were to look in, Sort Of, my kitchen bin, they wouldnt see any evidence. Beat say just less than half of those who sought medical help felt they were taken seriously. Have you tried exercise . Have you tried having more structure . Have you tried, you know, keeping your mind off it, distracting yourself after youve eaten . You know. Yes, of course. Of course ive tried all these things. Everyones tried all these things. Thats unhelpful. Itsjust hopeless. Its completely hopeless. Binge eating experts tell us we have no real idea of the true scale of the problem. In a statement, the government acknowledged Mental Health Services have faced an increased demand during the pandemic, but theyre investing £500 Million in the area. So, i think this is a problem of huge proportions that were just not aware about. WE Dont know enough about it. We need to get better help. And that means people going to their gps i to tell them whats happening because until we know whos i struggling, wE Dont know the size of this problem and therefore i the resources are just not going to be there for it. If youve been affected by any of the issues raised, you can find Help And Advice at bbc. Co. Uk actionline Covid Vaccines are being offered at the Reading And Leeds Festivals this weekend, to try to increase take up in young adults. Pop up clinics will be open at both events, but health officials say if yourE Drunk or under the influence of drugs you wont be able to get one. Its after two other festivals were linked to a surge in cases in recent weeks. Earlier i spoke to melvin benn, thE Director of Festival Republic, which runs Reading And Leeds Festivals. I asked him whether he thought the events could spread the virus. Well, there will certainly be cases as a result of leeds and readinG Festivals but whether that would be a surge or not remains to be seen. There were cases associated with Latitude Festival but it wasnt a surge and the cases linked with Latitude Festival were very much in line with what the Background Reproduction Rate was generally at the time for young people, the 21, 22, 23 volts so in that sense it really wasnt a search, it was just pretty normal. There will be an increase as a result of reading and leeds but there will be an increase this weekend anyway. We have got a glorious weekend. Almost every young person up and down the country will have been in a park, in with their friends, in theirfenced gardens, having barbecues, etc, etc, and outside of the festivals they are mixing with people that they have no idea whether they are tested or not. Inside the festival, they know they are mixing with people that are tested and clear of covid. Final question tested and clear of covid. Final question. Never tested and clear of covid. Final question. Never going tested and clear of covid. Final question. Never going to i tested and clear of covid. Final question. Never going to be vaccinations on offer at the festivals. Why was it so important for you to offer that . Festivals. Why was it so important for you to offer that . Well, i think we all know for you to offer that . Well, i think we all know that for you to offer that . Well, i think we all know that the for you to offer that . Well, i think we all know that the best for you to offer that . Well, i think we all know that the best way i for you to offer that . Well, i think we all know that the best way out| for you to offer that . Well, i think l we all know that the best way out of the restraints that the virus is placed on our lives is by Mass Vaccination and so we all want to get back to work and we all want to continue Watch Music and go to gigs and go to festival. The government have announced that as of october youre only going to be all to do that if you have vaccinated so for me it was really important to give young people the chance to actually vaccinate at a festival where literally they dont have to go out of their way to do it. Of their way to do it. Melvin benn from festival of their way to do it. Melvin benn from Festival Republic. A little earlier we are somebody from University College london how safe you believe festivals to be. We have to safe you believe festivals to be. , have to face the facts, most 16 and 17 year olds and vaccinated in many of our 18 and 19 year olds havent yet been vaccinated. However, we have really changed the link between cases and deaths. We have to as a society recognise cases will rise that actually the transfer into deaths from Covid 19 is so much less so we have to be able to accept that. The evidence suggests that we can generally run large events without producing super spread issues. And i think we actually have to trust that. Issues. And i think we actually have to trust that to trust that. Professor Russell Viner from to trust that. Professor Russell Viner from university to trust that. Professor Russell Viner from University College L Viner from University College london. Its the gift that keeps on giving. Seven years ago a piece of Banksy Artwork left outside a Bristol Youth Club sold for more than £160,000. The proceeds saved the club from closure, and its impact still resonates today. Our reporter, Tracey Miller has been spending time with children who have been practicing their graffiti skills. Creativity and colour are being served up at this Youth Club in Bristol Today its a graffiti workshop. I had no idea what i was going to end up with, and then ijust followed my mind and just. The club that stood here for over 100 years also serves up meals for hungry families and provides a place for excluded children. Rather than its a chore. I like how the paint goes down, its like. And if you mess up a bit, you can just go over It And it looks quite nice, to be honest. And heres some of the finished work. And theyre proud of the results quite rightly. Nice work. Tracey miller reporting. A family from manchester are trying to raise awareness of what they say is a lack of diversity in childrens books. Amy, a primary School Teacher, says her young children ask why people in books dont look like them. Kelly foran reports. Once upon a time, there were two children called Max And Mabel. This is my sister mabel. Were brothers and sisters. Im mabel and im six years old, and this is my brother, max. And i am nine years old. And it was mabel who unintentionally highlighted an issue when she got a new book. In the book was a character that looked like her, and she was really Excited that the character looked i like her and it highlighted that| when shes been coming home with books before, the Characters Havent looked like her. Hello, nursery its time. Her mum amys a primary School Teacher she says schools do what they can but there just arent enough options for everyday situations. We were trying to find a book that was all about the tooth fairy, and when we looked at them there wasnt many tooth fairies that were black or mixed race. We tried to look for a book for Phils Birthday the other day and we couldnt find any birthday books that had a family that looked like ours. And that makes the children feel. A bit. Sad. The latest research from a three Year Period shows that 7 of childrens books published have characters of black, asian and minority ethnic backgrounds but thats not the reality of many classrooms today, where ethnic minorities make up more than a third of pupils. When i was growing up there werent any, and i think now theres a lot more that can bE Done and i think its brilliant because the children, when they find someone who looks like them, they feel like they are welcome in this society, like they add something positive. And thats why they have set up this social Media Page to help raise awareness, and for Max And Mabel to share their favourites. I like the naughtiest unicorn. Because hed gone back to sleep. I like it cos my dad reads It And it has a person whos mixed race and theyre friends with a black person and a white and they all have unicorns. There are so many more books. With diversity than when i started teaching 12 years ago that represent the families of manchester, but theres still so i much that can bE Done. Kelly foran, Bbc News.
