President Joe Biden says he intends to stick to next Tuesdays Deadline for the us to complete its evacuation in afghanistan rejecting borisjohnson s appeal for an extension. Speaking at a Press Conference last night, he said the mission was under growing threat of an attack by extremists linked to the islamic state group. Nomia iqbal reports from washington. Up to 6,000 us troops are on the ground in kabul trying to help thousands of people leave afghanistan. More than 7,000 Miles Away, their Commander In Chief stuck to his plan. The sooner we can finish, the better. Each day of operations brings added risk to our troops. But the completion by August 31st depends upon the taliban continuing to cooperate and allow Access to the airport for those who are transporting out, and no disruptions to our operations. President biden rejected pleas from other g7 nations to extend the deadline for the evacuation mission. Without the power of the us military, the uk has admitted it would not have the ability to stay. However, prime minister Boris Johnson, who chaired the meeting, says the leaders agreed a Road Map for engaging with the taliban. The number one condition we are setting, as g7, is that they have got to guarantee, right the way through through August The 31st and beyond Safe Passage for those who want to come out. But this poses a risk. It is the taliban who ultimately is deciding this deadline, because the group says the us and allied forces have to leave by The End of the Month Or Face consequences. The biden administration is confident it can make the deadline and that whoever wants to leave will be able to. Since august the 14th, he says, more than 70,000 people, including afghan allies, have been flown out of harms way. The us has already begun to leave and, as hundreds of soldiers fly back home, the numbers of desperate people arriving at Kabul Airport keeps increasing. Just under a week is all they have to get out, as the taliban tightens its grip on afghanistan. Nomia iqbal, Bbc News, washington. Lets speak to nomia now. Nomia, why is President Biden so set on making this deadline . Good morning. The truth is that Mr Biden does not really have much of a choice on this one. It is not really the us, other g7 nations calling the shots. It is the taliban, they are in charge and have set the deadline, really, because they say if america does not leave by August The 31st there will be consequences. So why would President Bidenjeopardise there will be consequences. So why would President Biden jeopardise the security of his troops or anybody else by keeping them there . It is notjust else by keeping them there . It is not just fear of compliance else by keeping them there . It is notjust fear of compliance by else by keeping them there . It is not just fear of compliance by the taliban ending but this emerging group called isis k, an affiliate of islamic state, and whilst they are sworn enemies of the taliban, having them in afghanistan as the confusion, it adds to the chaos. Mr biden said the longer they stay, the more troops are at risk. Here in the us, the republicans, the party are livid at Mr Biden and cannot understand why america is relying on the taliban for it security. It is a cold political calculation made by Mr Biden. He is hoping that in The End, he will be judged Mr Biden. He is hoping that in The End, he will bejudged by how it ends and not how it started. He is confident, it came across in the Press Conference, that america does have the resources. There is a Plane Flying from kabul every 45 minutes, to bring Everybody Back that wants to bring Everybody Back that wants to come back or leave afghanistan. I think to say that the next week is probably one of the most crucial moments in President Biden s presidency so far is probably an understatement. 0ur political correspondent, Helen Catt, is in westminster this morning. Interesting, listening to that, from Joe Biden s perspective, but Boris Johnson did not get what he wanted yesterday. He johnson did not get what he wanted esterda. , yesterday. He wanted more time frankl to yesterday. He wanted more time frankly to get yesterday. He wanted more time frankly to get more yesterday. He wanted more time frankly to get more people yesterday. He wanted more time frankly to get more people out. Yesterday. He wanted more time l frankly to get more people out and that did not happen. I think there was not necessarily an expectation ahead of the meeting it would be extended. There was a degree of acceptance perhaps that deadline would not be extended. Now we are hearing and you heard borisjohnson say about how the g7 countries work together to put pressure on the taliban to make that deadline work. You heard borisjohnson say the number one condition they are setting for the taliban to engage with other western governments is they will allow people to get safely out of the country to 31st Of August and beyond. He talked about a Road Map the g7 have come up with to try to engage with the taliban. There has been criticism of what came out of the g7. Labour said it did not come up with a clear plan about how it would exert pressure on the taliban. Snps Ian Blackford said it was regrettable the deadline had not been extended. The Liberal Democrats accused Boris Johnson been extended. The Liberal Democrats accused borisjohnson of having failed on the global stage. Accused Boris Johnson of having failed on the global stage. Helen, thanks. Failed on the global stage. Helen, thanrs we failed on the global stage. Helen, thanks. We will failed on the global stage. Helen, thanks. We will have failed on the global stage. Sir mickjagger and Keith Richards have led tributes to their rolling Stones Band Mate Charlie Watts, who has died aged 80. It comes weeks after it was announced the drummer would miss The Rolling Stones us tour, starting next month, for medical reasons. Watts helped the stones become one of the most Iconic Rock Bands to grace the stage. 0ur Arts Correspondent David sillito looks at his life and legacy. Charlie, charlie, charlie i play the drums for Keith And Mick i dont play em for me. Charlie watts. Cool, calm and Distinctly Dapper the steady backbeat of The Rolling Stones. In a statement, the band said it was with immense sadness they were announcing the death of their beloved Charlie Watts. Among the tributes eltonjohn, ringo starr, Paul Mccartney. Charlie was a rock. A fantastic drummer. He was, though, always a reluctant rock star. I cant play the drums at home, so i walk about, my hand. And to play the drums, i have to go On The Road. And to go On The Road i have to leave home. Its like a terribly vicious circle, its always been my life. A Graphic Designer by trade, he was not expecting his evening sidelined with a little Blues Band called The Rolling Stones to make him famous. Wed like to play a Bo Diddley number. All right . Im all right. But for fellow Drummer Kenneyjones from the Small Faces and the who, he was a crucial part of the stones magic. Charlie was a lovely, smart, amazing guy. Great. The reason he was such a great drummer is because he had a great feeling about himself and for others. The way he delivers The Beat was absolutely spot on. I mean, he is the Heart And Soul of The Rolling Stones. But his real passion was jazz and rather than drugs and groupies, he liked antique silver and classic cars. Even though he didnt drive. But even the sensible stone had his moments. He knew he had a problem when the High Priest of debauchery, Keith Richards, took him aside one day and gave him a talking to. Married for more than 50 years, he was always happiest at home with his dogs and horses. But his place in Music History is on stage keeping it together with the worlds greatest Rock And Roll band. We will be talking to kenneyjones later in the programme and to Colin Paterson reflecting more on the life of Charlie Watts. What a stylish man. And talking about the Drumming Technique greatly admired by Everybody Else who has sat in that chair. You listen to how he played and do not think about it but when you hear an Expert Talk about it you realise how brilliant he was. Lots more on that to come. Elsewhere. New research suggests that the protection given by two doses of the Pfizer And Astrazeneca coronavirus vaccines starts to wear off within six months. The latest analysis by the Zoe Covid Study looked at more than A Million positive Test Results between may and july. 0ur health correspondent, Sophie Hutchinson, reports. Just how long vaccines offer protection and whether we need boosters is a crucial question ahead of the winter. Todays study adds to growing evidence that, over time, covid vaccines become less effective at stopping infections. It examined 1. 2 million positive Test Results between may and july this year and found that protection from the Pfizer Vaccine seemed to reduce from 88 to 74 over 5 6 months, and astrazeneca from 77 to 67 over 4 5 months. Importantly, this is about preventing a covid infection. Hospital figures suggest that both vaccines have continued to protect against severe illness in many people. Public Health England estimates that nearly 85,000 deaths have been prevented as a result of the covid 19 Vaccination Programme in england so far. However, the study s Lead Investigator said Vaccine Efficacy could drop to 50 by the winter, and boosters would be needed. It is bringing into focus this need for some action. We cantjust sit by and see the protectiveness slowly waning whilst cases are still high and the chance of infection still high, as well. The government has said there will be boosterjabs sometime in september, starting with those most at risk of severe covid 19. Sophie hutchinson, Bbc News. A public consultation is getting under way, to ask if beavers should be reintroduced to englands rivers. The mammals were once widespread throughout britain, but were hunted to extinction 400 years ago. Studies have shown that the return of the animals could help to restore river habitats. But farmers have expressed concern that the creatures dams can cause disruption. Why is it every time we sit together on the sofa there is a beavor story. I remember when we had one and it was belvoir castle. We will be talking about beavors later in the programme. Thousands of lives could be harmed if more isnt done to reduce regional inequality in britain thats according to a report by the salvation army. The government says its investing billions into the levelling up agenda. 0ur social Affairs Correspondent Michael Buchanan reports from the Seaside Town of rhyl, which has the two poorest neighbourhoods in wales. The pandemic has been devastating. In an instant, the tourism stopped, a lot of the Caravan Parks shut. So those jobs that people rely on were just instantly, in one fell swoop, gone. Susie taylor is on the Front Line of rhyl s covid recovery. So ive brought you in todayjust to sort out how we can help you. Shes helping people find work in a town that saw a 50 increase in universal credit claims during the pandemic. Things are, at last, getting better. The amount ofjobs are increasing. But, unfortunately, its all very low skilled. Its very important, because i can pay my way in life, then. I dont have to scrounge from the government. Denver geoff is one of susies successes thanks to the salvation armys help, he started work on monday in a supermarket. The former labourer had struggled through the pandemic to find work. Its impossible because everythings shut. Youve got papers, but theres no jobs in the papers no more, either. Theyre all on the Internet Job Search and things like that. And i havent. I did not have a computer. This Years Staycation Frenzy has created many seasonaljobs here. Rhyl hopes its bid for Regeneration Funding will fuel more sustainable work. Tens of millions have already been spent updating its seafront. There is a sense that the town is now at a crossroads how do you attract new visitors, new money into the area at the same time as making a meaningful difference in the lives of some of the poorest people in the united kingdom . Hi, its Natasha Calling from the good News Mission in rhyl. At this charity, theyve been inundated with requests for Help Both Food and furniture are in great demand. Any new money, they say, should come to their neighbourhood. Why in 2021 is somebody deciding to put food on the Table Or Electricity in the meter whos got a family . Its great to get the tourists in, but what about the people that| actually live here that, every day, have to choose electricity, food . Yeah, no, i can fully understand that. But we had to start somewhere. So the challenge is to marrying up the level of investments to the benefits of the people in the most deprived areas and what they get out of it but weve made a start. The Uk Government says improving Living Standards is a key focus of its investment in regional towns and cities, who all benefit from new funding. In rhyl, they wait and wonder if the ripples from such schemes will wash beyond the seafront. Michael buchanan, Bbc News, rhyl. Lets take a look at the front pages. Two stories dominate todays headlines the latest on the afghanistan crisis and the death of The Rolling Stones drummer, Charlie Watts. Joes no to bojo. Thats the headline in the metro. The paper says the us president snubbed the prime Ministers Plea to keep his troops in afghanistan beyond August The 31st. The times reports that britain is scrambling to airlift more than 4,000 Uk Nationals and afghan citizens out of afghanistan by The End of the week. Most front pages carry photos of Charlie Watts, following his death at the age of 80. The sun splashes on the story describing watts as the rock behind the stones. And the guardian says that Britains Economy has been plunged into a Supply Chain Crisis as a result of worker shortages and transport disruption, which they claim is caused by covid and brexit. Shall i start . I have not really had a look inside the pages this morning. What do we love to talk about most on breakfast . Beavors beavers. 0ra panda or a panda bear. I will talk to you about eggs. Is this someone claiming how to make the perfect eggs . And it is not used. The perfect boiled eggs should be boiled for minutes and 15 seconds, plunged into Cold Water for 57 seconds, the soldiers made from White Bread should be toasted two minutes 57 seconds. Thoughts on that . I think toast is a personal preference. Some like it dark some light. You know i like rules around eggs. It is important to have a square piece of toast for soldiers. Everybody cut the grass. I like russ. And it depends on how you boil your egg. I like russ. And it depends on how you boilyour egg. I like i like russ. And it depends on how you boil your egg. I like to be able to burst through but i do not like it go everywhere. We bring you the best news in the morning, dont we . If youre having a morning where you feel you need to share, let us know how you like your boiled eggs and if you have a perfect method. That was so precise. Cold water, 57 seconds. I do that. I do not time. This is revolutionary news. Talking of food, mcdonalds has joined a long list of big names reporting shortages of products. And there are fears the problem is getting worse bens looking at this. Good morning. We have details of more problems for more retailers. First it was peri Peri Chicken at nandos, then milkshake at mcdonalds. So whats going on, and what could be next . A shortage of chicken caused nandos to shut 50 sites last week they blamed Supply Chain issues. Those restaurants are now back open. But then on monday, mcdonalds said it couldnt sell milkshakes or bottled drinks, due to, this time, a shortage of hgv drivers to make deliveries. So could this problem get worse, before it gets better . We spoke to other big name Fast Food Firms to ask if theyre also affected. Sandwich Chain Subway told us they were experiencing minor shortages of some fresh produce. But said disruption had, so far, been minimal. The Pub Chain wetherspoons is also one of the biggest Food Buyers and sellers in the uk. They said they were aware of some forthcoming shortages of certain items so are trying to find alternative suppliers. You might not have heard of Mitchells Butlers, but you will know some of their big brands all bar one, harvester, toby carvery. They told us they were seeing sporadic shortages partly because of Supply Chain workers being pinged. They hope the new rules about fully vaccinated workers not having to self isolate would help improve things. Understandably, lots of companies didnt want to comment but Food Industry experts say the problem is here to stay. I think were going to see more and more of this. I think were literally heading to a brick wall. Its something that basically involves a lot of people, and all those people have to work together. And its no good if youve got no. If you havent got enough people working in the Factories, or you havent got enough drivers, thats going to have a really huge Knock On Effect. And were starting to see a Knock On Effect of this for christmas it is going to affect christmas. Thoughts are turning to christmas. The british meat Processors Association says turkey, gammon and our the Christmas Staple pigs in blankets could be in danger. We usually buy 40 Million packets of them but theres a shortage of people to make them and production could be cut by a third. But why is all this happening now . Well, its a bit of a perfect storm. Lots of issues coming at once. Self isolating workers have left firms short of staff. Brexit has meant big changes to import and export rules. And Visa Rules have prompted thousands of overseas drivers to return home. An ageing workforce means drivers are retiring, but not enough new young recruits are joining. And some big firms, like the supermarkets, have put wages up and offered bonuses to attract new drivers. But that means smaller businesses, like steves, are struggling to hang on to their staff. We have had some very good staff who have left us for Food Distribution companies mainly. 0ur General Fleet has 25 drivers we are currently down as of today, we are down five. Goods are being delayed, we are not getting stuff to stores, to retailers, to industry as it should be. At the moment, here, we are running behind round about three days. So were now starting to collect and deliver freight that should have been delivered last week. Weve increased all of our driver salaries, weve increased benefits, but it gets to a point where we can only absorb so much of the cost ourselves before the business becomes unviable. And it seems that problem is set to get worse. The Road Haulage Association says around 2,000 drivers are leaving the job every single week, and just half that 1,000 are signing up. There are calls for a temporary Visa Scheme to allow Eu Drivers to work here to help ease the problem. As the industry gears up for what should be its busiest time of year, there are real worries about what will and wont be available on the shelves this christmas. I have a feeling that is not the last time you will be talking about that. We will keep an eye on the retailer is working out where their stuff will come from and can they get it in time . A lot of this is coming very long distances. They are ordering now for christmas if it is coming from places like china so the big issue is will it get here in time and will there be enough of it . You are fully excused for dropping the C Word so early. They are planning right now, that is being done now. You are watching Bbc Breakfast. We spoke about Tom Cruise ordering two Tikka Masalas in birmingham. Well weve got more Cruise News for you this morning. Weve been speaking to the family who were enjoying a Quiet Bbq in their Back Garden when The Star happened to drop by in his helicopter. He did get permission. They did not know it was Tom Cruise until he landed. Tom. You are on first name terms. He mesmerise you, didnt he . A little. Well have that shortly and bring you the latest news and weather. Now its time for the weather with carol. Good morning. Stop him teasing me. I am trying to think of a joke about Cruise Control but just carry think of a joke about Cruise Control butjust Carry On. Good morning. This morning, once again, we are dominated by High Pressure with some Mist And Fog around. A lot The Sunniest conditions in the west. In glasgow we reached 25 degrees, also in Northern Ireland. But the High Pressure that is dominating whether at the moment, centred here, is allowing cloud to topple around it. Plus we have a cold front coming in from the North East. We are starting off with low cloud. We are shrouded by cloud across the north, west and parts of Eastern Scotland. Southern areas through the day is seeing sunshine. Breezy through the English Channel. Also the South East of england. And brightening up with sunshine in Northern Ireland and the same in western and southern scotland, where we could hit 26 again today. We are watching this area of cloud slipping further south and it may get into the north of Northern Ireland later. It will always be cooler with the Onshore Breeze and down the door to see not just today but through the next days. This evening and overnight, Cloud Sink southwards. The Weather Front bringing in more cloud. It will be breezy down the North Sea Coast. Limited clear skies across south West Scotland and cornwall. It will start to feel by The End of the night. Temperatures 11 16. Tomorrow we start on a cloudy note with Mist And Fog. A keen wind down the North Sea Coast. Feeling bracing as we go through tomorrow. Cloud breaking to the west, allowing sunshine to come through. Where we have thicker cloud in the east we could see brighter breaks and sunny spells at times. Temperatures down a touch. Argyll and bute could hit 23, but we are looking at mid to high teens or low 20s. 0n looking at mid to high teens or low 20s. On friday, cloud. Equally some sunshine around. Feeling cooler on the North Sea Coast. In the best of the North Sea Coast. In the best of The Sunshine we will see the highest temperatures, but they will be lower than they have been. A high up to 20 in glasgow, but 21 as we slip down towards london. Into the weekend, no huge hike in temperatures but the weather remain settled. More later. Hello, this is breakfast with Dan Walker and sally nugent. Coming up on breakfast this morning. Its all right now, now, that is a gas as tributes continue to pour in following the death of rolling stones star Charlie Watts, well talk to Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the whos kenney smith, about what made him one of the greatest drummers of all time. One foot in the Grave Actor Richard Wilson claims hes too old for the stage at 85 but thats not stopping him from directing a new play. Hell be here to tell us all about it. And the actor timothy spall s going to talk to us about his touching new role as a recently widowed man who travels the length of the uk with his wifes ashes. All that to come, but lets return to our main story this morning. Us President Joe Biden has confirmed that there will be no extension to the deadline for evacuating foreign citizens from Kabul Airport. The withdrawal of almost 6,000 american troops will also mean The End of the uks effort to fly british citizens and eligible afghans to safety. Lets speak now to the conservative mp and former veterans ministerjohnny mercer. Good wine, great to see this morning. Lets start. How do you feel about what you heard out of the G7 Yesterday, and Joe Biden s statement, the very firm aligned that there will be no extension to this deadline . I that there will be no extension to this deadline . This deadline . I dont think it is a surrise. This deadline . I dont think it is a surprise joe this deadline . I dont think it is a surprise. Joe biden this deadline . I dont think it is a surprise. Joe biden has this deadline . I dont think it is a surprise. Joe biden has been this deadline . I dont think it is a l surprise. Joe biden has been pretty clear throughout that he has this artificial set of timelines he wants to adhere to and consequently our timelines off the back of that are being compressed and you are seeing desperate scenes at the moment of people trying to get out of kabul. I dont think it is a surprise and i think we need to work ever harder, as i think we are doing now, to try to get people out. To get people out. Given this loomin to get people out. Given this looming deadline, to get people out. Given this looming deadline, the to get people out. Given this looming deadline, the Fact i to get people out. Given this i looming deadline, the Fact that to get people out. Given this looming deadline, the Fact that time is running very, very short, how do you see this playing out . fix, is running very, very short, how do you see this playing out . A number of eole you see this playing out . A number of peeple have you see this playing out . A number of people have said you see this playing out . A number of people have said already you see this playing out . A number of people have said already that. You see this playing out . A number of people have said already that wej of people have said already that we are going to end up leaving people behind, so i think for people like me, we are working as hard as we can to get as many people out. I am sure mps across the country are receiving hundreds of messages every day. We try to feed them into the programme and see staff who are working incredibly hard at the airport and the soldiers and someone who are dealing with a horrendous situation. It is difficult, isnt it . It is watching this happen. I saw the prime Ministers Statement Yesterday negotiating with the taliban and so on going forward. It is a high position to get your head around after 20 years of effort in that country. figs after 20 years of effort in that count. ,. After 20 years of effort in that count. ~ ,. ,. ,. , country. As a former soldier, we are sittin country. As a former soldier, we are sitting here country. As a former soldier, we are sitting here now. Country. As a former soldier, we are sitting here now, it country. As a former soldier, we are sitting here now, it is country. As a former soldier, we are sitting here now, it is very sitting here now, it is very difficult for us to watch these pictures, but for those troops on the ground working in incredibly difficult circumstances, what is this like for them to . This like for them to . Well, i think, for this like for them to . Well, i think, for them, this like for them to . Well, i think, for them, they this like for them to . Well, i think, for them, they will. This like for them to . Well, i think, for them, they will be | think, for them, they will be getting on with the task they have been given. When youre doing this sort of thing you are incredibly task orientated. But that obviously is overlaid by the massive humanitarian pictures you can see on your screen. Humanitarian pictures you can see on yourscreen. But humanitarian pictures you can see on your screen. But to actually be there, live and feel and breathe it, and the heat and the chaos and the desperation from people who are out there, it is extraordinary. What they are doing is extraordinary, what we are asking them to do, and so i pay tribute to them and you can see it yet again, we can talk about all the modernising impacts on the Armed Forces and all the rest of it, the qualities of the british soldier in situations like this is unrivalled. And you see that from other countries who are operating at the airfield, as well. I think we should be incredibly proud of them. We can rest knowing they will do whatever they can within the envelope they have been provided of this timeframe. But obviously there are deeper questions as to what has gone on here. Are deeper questions as to what has gone on here gone on here. When you say deeper ruestions, gone on here. When you say deeper questions. Are gone on here. When you say deeper questions, are you gone on here. When you say deeper questions, are you thinking gone on here. When you say deeper questions, are you thinking of gone on here. When you say deeper questions, are you thinking of the i questions, are you thinking of the mistakes that have been made in the last few weeks were mistakes that have been made over several years . Or mistakes over several years . It is difficult for people like me. There are lots like me who have campaigned for example to sort out the afghan resettlement programme. Up the afghan resettlement programme. Up untilfour orfive. Even four, five, six weeks ago, we were treated with contempt about trying to sort this programme out and now this collapse has happened and you see that we will actually leave people behind, it is kind of irrevocably changed me and change my politics. 0nce changed me and change my politics. Once you see how it works and how decisions are made and so on around these policies, and i think people are finding it very difficult to deal with. Are finding it very difficult to dealwith. Forveterans, i have had some amazing conversations with different veterans over the last week or so. Often i havent spoken to them for years. We all feel the same. I think we have all been surprised by how it has affected us. A lot of us had left it behind and got on with new lives. But you have to reach out and talk to people because it is an extraordinary set of feelings, it is really difficult and help is available and there are unique pressures on the Veteran Community at the moment. For now it is a straightforward focus on trying to get as many people as we can out of afghanistan. Irate to get as many people as we can out of afghanistan. Of afghanistan. We could see very clearly from of afghanistan. We could see very clearly from an of afghanistan. We could see very clearly from an image of afghanistan. We could see very clearly from an image you of afghanistan. We could see very clearly from an image you posted | clearly from an image you posted yesterday of a soldier carrying a young afghan girl. Really striking image. You said that this soldier is a friend of yours. Tell me about that image and tell me about your friend and what message you have sent to him. I friend and what message you have sent to him sent to him. I am incredibly proud of him that sent to him. I am incredibly proud of him that i sent to him. I am incredibly proud of him that i was sent to him. I am incredibly proud of him that i was proud sent to him. I am incredibly proud of him that i was proud of sent to him. I am incredibly proud of him that i was proud of him of him that i was proud of him before the image came out. There is him and many more like him. Bizarrely, i was down in the South Coast were charity with him only five or six weeks ago and now he is in kabul on a strategic point at the edge of what is going on. He is an exceptional young man, he is one of a group of people, similar to people like that, i was incredibly lucky to work with and there is something you really miss when you leave. But we have to be thankful for these people. The way britain, is not so much britain but governments take the Armed Forces for granted, it is ridiculous and that is reflected in Veteran Care and all the rest of it which i have been campaigning on for many years. I am incredibly proud of this people but its kind of inspires me to keep trying to do what we are doing now and help get these people out and continue to fight to look after them better when they come home. You fight to look after them better when they come home. They come home. You said this has chanced they come home. You said this has changed your they come home. You said this has changed your politics, they come home. You said this has changed your politics, that they come home. You said this has changed your politics, that struck l changed your politics, that struck me. What did you mean . I changed your politics, that struck me. What did you mean . The Premier League has confirmed that clubs will not release players for matches in Red List countries during next months international break. Liverpools Mo Salah is one of many players who could be impacted as egypt is on the Red List. The decision was reached because the Uks10 Day Quarantine rules would apply to nearly 60 players from 19 clubs, due to travel to 26 Red List countries. So i thought it would be pretty cool for the kids to see a helicopter landed in the garden. Little did alison know that the Mission Impossible star was about to drop in. This morning, Mist And Fog around, especially across parts of Northern Ireland, scotland and Northern England but a lot of that will lift and many will see some sunshine. The best will eventually be in the west, also where we have the highest temperatures. To start with, quite a bit of cloud draped across parts of northern and Eastern Scotland and also across the central parts of england. Not much going on with the weather, High Pressure firmly in charge. The Weather Front trying to make inroads in across the North East is introducing more cloud. Through the day the cloud across parts of england and wales is going to sink southwards, may some drizzle coming out of it. Lightly dry and freeze it for southern areas. We hold onto quite a bit of cloud across the North And East of scotland. Inland, some sunshine as we could get up to 26 degrees around the Glasgow Area once again. Mist and Fog Lifting across Northern Ireland, leaving sunshine in its wake. The best of The Sunshine in the north of england is going to be in the North West and we will see some sunshine, West Wales as well as southern areas. Notjust in the English Channel can also breezy across the South East and the Onshore Breeze coming from the North Sea means it will feel cooler here with lower temperatures. May be 18 or19 with lower temperatures. May be 18 or 19 degrees. Through this evening and overnight, if anything, more cloud arriving and a brisk wind coming in from the North Sea. By The End of the night, one or two clear spells across scotland and cornwall. Not a cold night, once again we will seek Mist And Fog patches forming. Tomorrow we start off on a largely cloudy note with Mist And Fog. The Mist And Fog lifts, the Cloud Clearing and breaking in the west and well see a lot more sunshine. In eastern areas, a lot of cloud coming in off the wind of the North Sea but even so we should see some brighter rates, even at times some sunshine but it will feel quite bracing along this Coastline Tomorrow with highs against 16 or 17 degrees. Add on the brisk wind and it will feel colder than that. Temperatures down across the west of Scotland And Today we are looking at 25, possibly 26. Perhaps 23 in Argyll And Bute. Into friday, still areas of cloud floating around but equally quite a bit of dry weather and most of us On Friday should see some sunshine at some stage. Still the breeze coming in from the North Sea, so temperatures are still lower along the coastline. Top temperatures 19, 20, possibly 21 degrees in any lengthy spells of sunshine. Into saturday, still a fair bit of dry weather around but we have a bit more cloud coming in across the North West and temperatures are slipping just a little bit. Thats it from me. The headlines are coming up next. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Dan Walker and sally nugent. 0ur headlines today. President biden refuses to extend the deadline for the us withdrawal from afghanistan and confirms troops will leave by August The 31st. The sooner we can finish, the better. A first medal for Great Britain At The Paralympics Cyclist Dame Sarah storey claims her 15th gold competing at her eighth games. Its all right now, now, that is a Gas Tributes to the rolling Stones Drummer Charlie watts, whos died aged 80. Mickjagger simply posts a picture of his bandmate. Good morning. President Joe Biden says he intends to stick to next Tuesdays Deadline for the us to complete its evacuation in afghanistan rejecting Borisjohnsons Appeal for an extension. The number one condition were setting, as g7, is that they have got to guarantee, right the way through through August The 31st and beyond Safe Passage for those who want to come out. Political correspondent Helen Catt is in westminster this morning. Helen, a hard no from the us president on extending the deadline. We will speak to the Foreign Secretary this morning. Not what borisjohnson was hoping for. Ido i do not think there was high Expectation Borisjohnson and other leaders would getJoe Biden to change his mind but they tried and they failed. The attention is focusing now, well we havent persuaded an ally, so how do we put pressure on the taliban to make this work . You heard borisjohnson saying the g7 will set conditions for engaging with the taliban to do that. He said number one would be allowing people to continue to leave the country safely beyond the 31st. Labour has been critical of the meeting and said borisjohnson did not come up with a clear plan on how he will put pressure on the taliban. The Fact that so much depends on the Cooperation And Goodwill for want of the better word of the taliban will sit uncomfortably with a lot in westminster. New research suggests that the protection given by two doses of the Pfizer And Astrazeneca coronavirus vaccines starts to wear off within six months. The latest analysis by the Zoe Covid Study looked at more than A Million positive Test Results between may and july. Health correspondent Sophie Hutchinson reports. The Taliban Takeover Of Afghanistan has caused Panic And Confusion for thousands of british citizens trying to return home, but its also had a devastating impact on afghan families settled in the uk, desperate to help Loved Ones who they believe are stuck in limbo. We worked for nothing, i think. Much more on the situation in afghanistan coming up on the programme and we have Dominic Raab just after 7 30am. As weve been hearing this morning, more than 12 years after her disappearance, police investigating the suspected murder of Claudia Lawrence are carrying out searches at a popular Fishing Spotjust a few miles from her former home. Lets get the latest on this now from our Reporter Alison Freeman in york. Good morning. This sounds like a significant development. Yes. Good morning. This sounds like a significant development. Yes, good mornini. Significant development. Yes, good morning the significant development. Yes, good morning. The police significant development. Yes, good morning. The police are significant development. Yes, good morning. The police are not significant development. Yes, good morning. The police are not saying | morning. The police are not saying what it is that led them to come to this quiet north Yorkshire Village to start searching. They are saying that they are going to be using Specialist Search teams including underwater teams to search Gravel Pits that are flooded and used as a fishing pond, and the woodland behind us. We understand this is one of a number of new leads they are following. Claudia, 35 and a chef, went missing in 2000. 2009. Over the years, they have questioned nine people in connection with her Disappearance But Nobody has been charged. It was a month after her disappearance, officers decided they would treat this enquiry as a murder investigation. In 2017, that enquiry was scaled back. In february this year, herfather peter, who had campaigned tirelessly to keep her disappearance in the spotlight, as well as to help other families of missing people, sadly passed away without knowing what happened to his daughter. This does feel like something significant is happening here and it is hoped the search is taking place over the coming days will shed light on what happened to Claudia Lawrence. Will shed light on what happened to Claudia Lawrence. We are joined now by martin dales, a friend of claudias late father peter. Good morning. Thank you for coming in. I imagine this morning there are conflicted feelings for you and anyone connected with the family because it has been so many years and Claudias Dad fought hard to try to find out what happened to her and here we have this morning perhaps a new development. Tell me your reaction to the news the police are searching this new location. Bittersweet, i think. Searching this new location. Bittersweet, ithink. 0bviously, searching this new location. Bittersweet, ithink. Obviously, it was sad that peter died in february. Going to his grave not knowing where claudia is, in itself is bad enough, but all i do know is that he would be pleased that the police are carrying on their activity and we wish them well in their energies and resources in trying to find some closure to this matter for. After over 12 years. It is pretty hard. It is also very hard on people who are left behind outside. In the world of missing people. And the charity is missing people. And the charity is missing people. And the charity is missing people help. There are lots of people who appreciated the work he did when he was alive to give help in terms of practical help in resolving some of these issues when they become a major problem, which they become a major problem, which they have done for loads of people. It is desperately sad. It is the first thing that has happened since peter died, that we know about, or publicly know about. And that is where we are at and the whole thing is desperately sad. Lets Hope Something good can come out of this, whether it is resolution for claudia, and the police in their efforts. Claudia, and the police in their efforts. ,. ,. , claudia, and the police in their efforts. ,. ,. , efforts. Give us an idea, obviously a hue efforts. Give us an idea, obviously a huge impact efforts. Give us an idea, obviously a huge impact on efforts. Give us an idea, obviously a huge impact on peter efforts. Give us an idea, obviously a huge impact on peter and i efforts. Give us an idea, obviously a huge impact on peter and the i efforts. Give us an idea, obviously i a huge impact on peter and the rest of the family. What about the wider community . Many people want answers to what happened. Ih community . Many people want answers to what happened to what happened. In fairness, over the 12 and a to what happened. In fairness, over the 12 and a half to what happened. In fairness, over the 12 and a half years, to what happened. In fairness, over the 12 and a half years, and to what happened. In fairness, over the 12 and a half years, and i i to what happened. In fairness, over the 12 and a half years, and i have l the 12 and a half years, and i have known peter 40 years, over the years of being involved with him in this journey as we used to call it, in trying to find what happened to claudia, it is inevitable, we come across all sorts of people. There are a lot of people out there who are a lot of people out there who are wishing this to be resolved. It is quite clear that somebody know something. Where this information comes from is down to the police, thatis comes from is down to the police, that is their business. But the reality is all the time we come on Air And Talk reality is all the time we come on Airand Talk about reality is all the time we come on Air And Talk about claudia still missing, i hope that somebody somewhere is going to provide the information that will come to a positive resolution of this for the family, friends and community around york and wider. This family, friends and community around york and wider. York and wider. This is the Thing Peter always york and wider. This is the Thing Peter always said. York and wider. This is the Thing Peter always said. Someone, i Peter Always said. Someone, somewhere, know something. What is your message to that person . It happens so often. We kept saying this. The reality is somewhere out there somebody knows something and if that information is not in the right place, if it is with them, buried inside their own selfishness, that in itself is awful. And it is time for everybody, whoever you are, that this matter is closed, for other people in similar positions across the country and the world. You knew peter well. I wonder what drove him on to obviously try to find resolution to what happened to his daughter, but to help others. Do you think as he found out about their circumstances, that gave him impetus to help the wider community . Indeed, he was a man of faith. Lets be straight about that. He believed he was being looked after. He felt this was a way in which he could use his upbringing in terms of helping people to get those practical solutions through law and are simply as possible. A Road Map to try to make it that people could address theissues make it that people could address the issues without. It is bad enough having this going on around you without having the Business Side of things. So there is a lot to sort out. He was determined to try to make it easier and through parliament, the extension of the missing persons act and the guardianship laws that helped and is helping a lot of people. And with the help of the charity missing people and their knowledge, really it was a Win Win Situation in that respect, having fought our way in parliament to get this through. So he leaves a legacy of hope for lots of people who will find this, and in the future will come into these situations, and whereas most people who are missing come back again fairly quickly, there are always those who do not and claudia is one of those. Somebody knows something. We need to know the answer to where claudia is an somebody out there nose so they need to be getting in touch with north Yorkshire Police to make it clear. This has been waiting too long. Make it clear. This has been waiting too loni. Make it clear. This has been waiting too loni. , ,. , make it clear. This has been waiting too lonu. ,. ,. , too long. Like claudia was forgotten . Know, funnily enough, we like claudia was forgotten . Know, funnily enough, we did like claudia was forgotten . Know, funnily enough, we did not. I funnily enough, we did not. Partially because i suppose we were very fortunate in many ways in having the media, that have stayed with us. The media have stayed with us throughout this appallingly sad time. We have felt supported by people such as yourselves in doing what needs to be done, however horrific. Some of the stories that have been told and headlines in papers and things. We have felt supported from there, from the churches and faith communities in york and wider. And that has been a great strength of stay in doing something i thought i would not be involved in. I did not think 12 and a half years later we would still be in this sad situation. In this sad situation. Martin, i appreciate in this sad situation. Martin, i appreciate you in this sad situation. Martin, i appreciate you coming in this sad situation. Like many watching, we hope there is a resolution and further information comes out. Resolution and further information comes out the Snake Pass is an eleven Mile Route of twists and turns through some spectacular peak district scenery. Its also the most snowbound route in the country. Asi as i have found out on numerous occasions coming from sheffield to manchester. This week marks exactly 200 years since the road was built, in order to link the new industrial cities of manchester and sheffield. Juliet phillips went up there to mark the occasion. Its a road that divides opinion with its picturesque views but perilous bends. When the Snake Pass was built 200 years ago by scottish road builderjohn mcadam, it was hoped it would speed up the journey between sheffield and manchester. It became, to use the modern parlance, a marmite road. People either loved it or they hated it, just as they do today. It was a fasterjourney, but it didnt actually make much difference. It never attracted enough traffic to repay the money that had been spent on it. Many people assume that the Snake Pass got its name from the way it twists and turns like a snake, but actually it was named after the building just behind me, what used to be the snake inn, a pub on this route. Over the years, in bad weather, the road has sometimes been closed, with drifts of snow making it completely impassable. Something Pub Landlord Sean whyte knows all about. He runs the inn which overlooks the pass. People try and go up, and they think its all right, and they get stuck and they come down. We leave a room open for them overnightjust in case people get trapped because once the pub has shut, they cant get in. We have room seven over there ready for the eventuality of people just are stranded because once youre here you cant go that way and you cant go that way because this is the lowest point and its just. You think youre all right, but youre stuck. Nowadays the area is popular with walkers, bikers and cyclists, many of whom stop for a break at seans pub. Where we live is really flat so its really nice to come somewhere where there are pretty views and itsjust a different landscape, really. Take a good corner on a scooter, provided there is no traffic coming, obviously. We are only steady eddies. When you are travelling with a caravan its a bit perilous sometimes, but today we came without it and it was lovely. Whether you love or hate the Snake Pass, both the road and the passion that people feel for it has certainly stood the test of time. That story was brought to us by our reporterjuliet phillips. You should be the Snake Pass correspondent. You must have been on a . Lots of times. I have done it thousands of times. I could almost drive it with my eyes closed my first car when i first started working in manchester was an austin metro. A beautiful machine. And for those who recognise that car and know about it, the spark plugs, one of the issues, right at the front, so if they got wet, the car would refuse to start or just stop. So if they got wet, the car would refuse to start orjust stop. If so if they got wet, the car would refuse to start or just stop. If you get driving rain on the Snake Pass as you often do, i was on numerous occasions when the car gave up, driving back from a late shift here. I have stopped on it and enjoyed it on too many occasions. It is beautiful. Every time you drive it is like you are on top gear. I must have done it thousands of times and i never get sick of the scenery. It is gorgeous, but it takes longer when you come into glossop from either end. Do you panic when it starts to snow and think, how am i going to get to work . I have been in that situation many times and know there are alternative routes. I listen to local radio before i leave or check travel reports. I have been up there when it rains. When you get to the summit of a road like that the temperature can change dramatically and it can turn from rain to freezing rain and then to sheet ice. I once got to the top, found a Police Car and they said it had been closed because the rain had turned to freezing ice. And then turning round and the raid was so slippery you had to drive down on the curb and outdone in because it was ice for a mile and a half. You should be on top gear. I managed to get back safely but a beautiful bit of road, when it is open. You are watching Bbc Breakfast, still to come. The actor timothy spall s going to talk to us about his touching new role as a recently widowed man who travels the length of the uk with his wifes ashes. And we will reflect on the life of Charlie Watts. Well have that shortly and bring you the latest news and weather. But the time now is 7. 28. We have done travel reports. Now, lets do weather. Do you need a travel correspondent, i am all over it . You are brilliant at it. Good morning, everybody. This morning there is Mist And Fog and low cloud and some of it thick enough for drizzle. Some of it will lift, especially in western areas, where we will have the warmest conditions today. Temperatures yesterday got to 26. 3 in strathallan. We will not be far of that in parts of the North West today but many will not see temperatures that high. High pressure dominates. A Weather Front from the North East. And the air around this High Pressure moves in a clockwise direction and it will feel cooler along the North Sea Coast. More of a breeze in the South East and English Channel. You can see the track the cloud is taking, moving south, and we hang on to cloud in northern and eastern Scotland But Move inland and we are back into sunny skies. Temperatures up to 26 around glasgow. Mist and fog will lift across Northern Ireland and North West england allowing sunshine to develop. We hang onto cloud across eastern parts of england, the midlands, wales, though West Wales should see sunshine and southern england should see sunshine. And after early sunshine in East Anglia, the cloud will move south. We expect breaks to develop. Through the evening and overnight, it will be fairly cloudy. The Weather Front is sinking southwards taking cloud with it. There will be clear skies here and there, in south West Scotland and there, in south West Scotland and cornwall most notably. And like last night Mist And Fog patches forming. 11 16 will be the overnight low. Tomorrow, this is what is left of the front, moving away. We will have more of a northerly and behind this cold front, temperatures will be lower. We start with Mist And Fog, cloud, which will break especially in the west. We should see breaks in the east but essentially more cloud in the east and we have that brisk northerly wind. It will be bracing along the North Sea Coast tomorrow. With the wind and those temperatures, out towards the west, although lower behind that cold front, they still will be on the healthy side of respectable, looking at 22 as the top temperature. Into friday, the front will have cleared, High Pressure in charge. The air around it in a clockwise direction. A lot of dry weather. Still areas of cloud at temperatures dipping just a little bit. More later. Hello, this is breakfast with Dan Walker and sally nugent. President with Dan Walker and sally nugent. Can we start on what the us president said yesterday and that the G7 Meeting i feel the hope from a british perspective was to get an extension to that deadline. President biden said the sooner we finish the better. Where does that leave us this morning, Mr Raab . It is clear that the troops this morning, Mr Raab . It is clear that the troops will this morning, Mr Raab . It is clear that the troops will be this morning, Mr Raab . It is clear that the troops will be withdrawn | this morning, Mr Raab . It is clear i that the troops will be withdrawn by The End of the month and we will use every remaining Hour And Day to get our nationals, such as we can, the afghans who work for us, out, and we are already getting that scholars and journalists and womens rights defenders out now. Since the 15th Of August we have come in probably the biggest operation of its time, in living memory, secured Safe Passage out of over 9000 of those people and in the last 24 hours alone we have secured Safe Passage out of 2000. We will keep that up in the hours and days ahead. The G7 Meeting outfit was also right Stop Pm showed great leadership to look at other things we should be addressing. Safe passages immediately were one priority is making sure afghanistan can never be used as a base of terrorism, the humanitarian situation which also drifts into the regional stability and of course the human Rights Situation which you are concerned about. I think it is right to get international leaders and regional parties together to try to forge a clearer way forward on how we will deal with the telephone and told them to account on each of those issues. I told them to account on each of those issues. Told them to account on each of those issues. I would like to come to the taliban those issues. I would like to come to the taliban in those issues. Im sure our viewers will be interested in what is going to happen in the coming days. We understand there are 1000 or so british troops there. 0bviously understand there are 1000 or so british troops there. Obviously we have to get those out safely. If that deadline is to be The End of this month, as it seems it will be, does that mean that, in terms of other flights coming out, does that mean that, in terms of otherflights coming out, they does that mean that, in terms of other flights coming out, they have to stop on a roundabout friday or saturday, which seems to be the projection, in order to get troops out by next tuesday . You projection, in order to get troops out by next tuesday . Projection, in order to get troops out by next tuesday . You are right that the military out by next tuesday . You are right that the military planners out by next tuesday . You are right that the military planners are i that the military planners are filling up the details of the extra time they will need at The End to draw down their own staff, personnel and equipment. We will get the details but im sure shortly. But what we are aiming at giving, having got the capacity to get people out over the last 24 hours to 2000, we want to keep using every Hour And Day that we have got left to push through the outstanding cases of british nationals, afghans who have worked for us, but also the high vulnerability cases if we can. We have seen keeping scholars on the flight, we wantjournalists on the flight, we wantjournalists on the flight, womens rights defenders so we will do everything we can in that remaining window we have. Iliruiheh we will do everything we can in that remaining window we have. When do ou think remaining window we have. When do you think remaining remaining window we have. The taliban have been talking at the same time as the g7 have been writing and they are saying they are not allowing local people known to travel to the airport. Does that mean, for local afghans, those who have been working with the british and other military who are trying to get out of afghanistan, that door is now closed . Ihie get out of afghanistan, that door is now closed . Get out of afghanistan, that door is now closed . We expect the taliban, notwithstanding now closed . We expect the taliban, | notwithstanding what has been said, to live up to the assurances that exception will be made for those working for the uk and others and indeed the Uk Nationals that we want coming through. Of course we listen very carefully to what the taliban spokesperson said. He talked about avoiding the Brain Drain from afghanistan. If the taliban want to do that, if they want to shore up and try and reinforce the economic, social fabric and try and reinforce the economic, socialfabric of and try and reinforce the economic, social fabric of the country such as it is, they are going to need to be more inclusive, more moderate, bringing politicalFactions. They will not be able to do it purely by coercion. All you will seek his affair that rushed to the door. What we are focused on the g7 again discussed this is using all the levers at our disposal and trying to get a broader group of countries agreed on the contours to exercise maximum moderating influence on the taliban. But they will not be able to rebuild the country if they adopt the coercive tactics that they have used in the past. [30 the coercive tactics that they have used in the past. Used in the past. I dont think it is so much l relying on the good well and we are very much realistic about the taliban ability to meet its promises but we deal with the reality we face. 0ver but we deal with the reality we face. Over the period since the fall of kabul, they have more or less tried to engage with us constructively to allow the Safe Passage. They say they want certain things, they want humanitarian assistance into afghanistan, in which case they are going to have to do something themselves, provide a permissive environment for ngos and the un because we are not giving aid to the taliban. So there are a range of, i think, to the taliban. So there are a range of, ithink, tests to the taliban. So there are a range of, i think, tests now for the taliban and they are going to have to decide what they want because if they are not willing to engage constructively, not willing to fulfil their assurances, they will not get Access because we will not be able to get the agencies in there. They will not get Access to there. They will not get Access to the international financial system and the billions of pounds they will rely on to keep the economic and social fabric rely on to keep the economic and socialfabric of rely on to keep the economic and social fabric of that country from splintering. The taliban has professed a whole range, and made a whole range of undertakings. I think the reality for us is to be able to engage, not recognised, not confer legitimacy, but engage and test whether they are serious about wanting to live up to those assurances, and being very clear about what the international community will do if they are, what they will not do if we see the barbaric practices of the past. fiiq barbaric practices of the past. Ok. One of the barbaric practices of the past. Ok. One of the big barbaric practices of the past. 0k. One of the big issues will be what happens with Kabul Airport once the overseas troops leave. The security of the airport, notjust in relation to the taliban but obviously the other potential threats to it from splintered terrorist groups or other Factions, and there is can the taliban actually function, run an airport . If they are to do that, they need to get back the air traffic control, civilian staff who worked under the previous government. I think this point, dan, to a broader issue the taliban are going to have to face. If they want a functioning airport, a functioning economy, even a rudimentary level, they will have to moderate the way they go about their conduct and their business, and that will mean being more inclusive, providing assurances to people within their own country, but also to the international partners who they are going to have to rely on. There are a whole range of tests for the taliban and we will look to use what leverage we have, the international financial institutions, the provision of aid, the potential for sanctions, institutions, the provision of aid, the potentialfor sanctions, to the potential for sanctions, to exert the potentialfor sanctions, to exert the maximum moderating influence that we can. 0ne exert the maximum moderating influence that we can. By that point, certainly by the saturday, control the ball and the minister had left by a sunday. The idea that in the interim period we would have been able to do any meaningful business or affect any change would clearly not have happened. There was nothing lost by doing that and the focus that we had was rightly at the time securing the airport, increasing the capacity, and as a result, since that point in time you are referring to, we got 9000 people out. It is all as a work in progress, neverfinished. They are a Bit Camera shy so although i havent seen them, earlier this morning my colleague Kevin Langdon managed to catch sight of them as they were having a spot of them as they were having a spot of breakfast after a busy night working on the dam. 400 years or so ago, these beavers could very well have been part, or in the sights, our hunters. They were prized catch it at that time. But since then and in recent years conservationists have been working hard to try to bring them back to river banks like this. In Fact there have been trials in wales, a very successful trial according to defra in east devon. There is a native population that already has protected status. These cute creatures im not without controversy and people like the national Farmers Union and fishermen are concerned about perhaps the negative impact that these beavers can have on river banks like this. Conservationists will tell you of course that they have a very positive impact in terms of helping with environmental concerns. Lets talk to a man who knows a little bit about that. Chris jones is from the Beaver Trust. You have had these beavers on your land for a while. Why is it so important to have them here . The for a while. Why is it so important to have them here . The chef was 35 when she vanished in 2009. Our reporter is in york. What is happening there this morning . So far, the police have not been able to tell us why they have started to search this quiet village outside york where claudia lived. They are saying it is one of a number of new leads they are following up. They will focus searches on woodland behind me and also the Gravel Pits that have now been flooded and are used as fishing ponds. We know specialist teams including underwater search teams, will be here the next few days. Claudia went missing in 2009, aged 35. Just a month after her disappearance the police decided they would treat the enquiry as a murder enquiry. Nine people over the years have been questioned in connection with her Disappearance But Nobody has been charged. In 2017, the force decided to scale back the enquiry. Sadly, in february this year, Claudias Dad peter passed away. He campaigned to keep her name in the spotlight, as well as to help families of other missing people. He died without finding out what happened to his daughter. This is the first time this area has been searched. He studied his art. He was like a professor of drumming. That chat coming up later. New research suggests that the protection given by two doses of the Pfizer And Astrazeneca coronavirus vaccines starts to wear off within six months. The latest analysis by the Zoe Covi Study looked at more than A Million positive Test Results between may and july. Health correspondent, Sophie Hutchinson, reports. Just how long vaccines offer protection and whether we need boosters is a crucial question ahead of the winter. Todays study adds to growing evidence that, over time, covid vaccines become less effective at stopping infections. It examined 1. 2 million positive Test Results between may and july this year and found that protection from the Pfizer Vaccine seemed to reduce from 88 to 74 over 5 6 months, and astrazeneca from 77 to 67 over 11 5 months. Importantly, this is about preventing a covid infection. Hospital figures suggest that both vaccines have continued to protect against severe illness in many people. Public Health England estimates that nearly 85,000 deaths have been prevented as a result of the Covid I9 Vaccination Programme in england so far. The government has said there will be boosterjabs sometime in september, starting with those most at risk of severe Covid I9. Sophie hutchinson, Bbc News. But then on monday, mcdonalds said it couldnt sell milkshakes or bottled drinks. This time, due to a shortage of hgv drivers to make deliveries. So could this problem get worse . We spoke to other big name Fast Food Firms to ask if theyre also affected. Sandwich Chain Subway told us they were experiencing minor shortages of some fresh produce. But said disruption had so far been minimal. The Pub Chain wetherspoons is also one of the biggest Food Buyers and sellers in the uk. They said they were aware of some forthcoming shortages of certain items and are trying to find alternative suppliers. You might not have heard of Mitchells Butlers but you will know some of their big brands all bar one, harvester, toby carvery. They told us they were seeing sporadic shortages. Partly because of Supply Chain workers being pinged. They told us they hope the new rules about fully vaccinated workers not having to self isolate would help improve things. Understandably, lots of companies didnt want to comment, but Food Industry experts say the problem is here to stay. Iam i am sorry to talk about christmas so early in the year. The british meat Processors Association says turkey, gammon and our the Christmas Staple pigs in blankets could be in danger. We usually buy 40 Million packets of them, but theres a shortage of people to make them and production could be cut by a third. But why is all this happening now . Its a bit of a perfect storm. Lots of issues coming at once. Self isolating workers have left firms short of staff. Brexit has meant big changes to import and export rules. And Visa Rules have prompted thousands of overseas drivers to return home. An ageing workforce means drivers are retiring but not enough new recruits are joining. And some big firms like the supermarkets have put wages up and offered bonuses to attract new drivers. But that means smaller businesses like steves are struggling to hang on to staff. We have had some very good staff who have left us for Food Distribution companies mainly. Our general fleet has 25 drivers we are currently down. As of today, we are down five. Increasing salaries and benefits could push up prices. The Road Haulage Association says around 2,000 drivers are leaving the job every single week, butjust half that 1,000 are signing up. There are calls for a temporary Visa Scheme to allow Eu Drivers to work here to help ease the problem. As the industry gears up for what should be its busiest time of year. But there are real worries about what will and wont be available on the shelves this christmas. There is a thought. I am so sorry to mention christmas. I am so sorry to mention christmas. I enjoyed the tour of the Bbc Breakfast kitchen. You never know where i am going to be. Hold onto your hats. You are watching Bbc Breakfast. Now, you might remember we were talking yesterday about how Tom Cruise had been spotted ordering not one, but two Chicken Tikka masala. In a restaurant in birmingham. Weve been speaking to the family who were enjoying a Quiet Bbq in their Back Garden when The Star happened to drop by in his helicopter well have that shortly and bring you the latest news and weather, but the time now is 8. 27. Now its time for the weather with carol. Good morning. Good morning. Some are starting with blue skies like this picture taken this morning in cornwall. Others are starting with low cloud, Mist And Fog. Some will burn away. The brightest conditions will be in the west where we will see the highest temperatures and also the most sunshine. We have cloud. High pressure is dominating. This cloud toppling around it and we have a week when front from the North East adding to the amount of cloud. The cloud is draped across the north and parts of the east, and moving across Northern England, midlands and through parts of wales. Through the day that will sink further south, getting into the south midlands and parts of East Anglia. In the south of england, sunshine. Breezy through the English Channel and across the southeast. Some of the cloud will be thick enough for drizzle but it will break and there will be brightness. Northern ireland, North West england, West Wales, much of scotland away from the case seeing sunshine. Temperatures up to 26 around the Glasgow Area. Generally, temperatures in the mid to high teens all know 20s. This evening and overnight we start with cloud but more roles in as the Weather Front sinks southwards. A brisk wind along the North Sea Coastline. We see Mist And Fog patches. As a result it will not be cold. Temperatures falling to between 10 16. Tomorrow, we start on a cloudy note and the cloud will thin and break out towards the west and The Sun will come out. In the east, cloud, but we expect it to break in places so at worst it will be bright and at best there will be sunny spells. Bracing down the North Sea Coast with lower temperatures and the brisk northerly wind. Temperatures down tomorrow. We could see 23 around Argyll And Bute. Friday and we start with dry weather. There will be sunshine through the day. We will see more cloud build. The win not as brisk down the North Sea Coastline but noticeable in East Anglia and kent. The best of The Sunshine ends up being across scotland and Northern Ireland. Temperatures, 20 in glasgow, 2 in london in any lengthy spells of sunshine. Saturday, still dry weather around and sunshine. More cloud coming in from a week Weather Front across northern and western scotland. It may sink further south, western scotland. It may sink furthersouth, into western scotland. It may sink further south, into Northern Ireland. These are the temperatures, between 16 and 21. Weather later. Jon kay has been to find out more. Right in the centre of The Field. Just here . Yeah, just here. So, there they were, having a barbecue in their garden near coventry when two men suddenly turned up. They asked if they could use The Field to land a helicopter, because they have a vip who is hoping to land at baginton airport, but its closed and he is running late. So i thought it would be pretty cool for the kids to see a helicopter landed in the garden. Little did alison know that the Mission Impossible star was about to drop in. It was a really bright day, so it was difficult to see straightaway who it was. And it wasnt until i heard him speak. And then i swore. You swore . What did you say . Bleep its Tom Cruise i wasnt expecting anybody quite as famous as that, so it was a bit of a shock. I didnt really know who he was, but when my brother told me that he was Tom Cruise, i recognised his name and i knew that he was definitely a famous person. What was he like . He was kind of short. Also some low cloud around, as well. A lot of that will tend to thin and break. It will stick in some places and i will tell you where in a moment. In the west we will see The Sunniest conditions and also the warmest. High pressure is dominating our weather. You can see all this cloud rotating around it. We also have a weak Weather Front coming into the of scotland so thatis front coming into the of scotland so that is also going to bring more power. I was not east england, midlands and wales. Through the day it will sink further south across bournemouth of scotland, the western isles, we will hang onto that cloud, but we in london we are looking at sunshine. Temperatures up to 25 or 26 across the central lowlands. Northern ireland, some sunshine, North West england, West Wales and southern counties of england. For the rest of Northern England, east and central wales come in for the midlands and also East Anglia, you will hang onto my cloud with one or two brighter breaks and temperatures up two brighter breaks and temperatures up to about 21 degrees. Through this evening and overnight, if anything this when south and will introduce more cloud. Once again some List Fog patches. A brisk wind developing down the North Sea Coast line a sieve which is falling away to between ten and i6 sieve which is falling away to between ten and 16 degrees. That is how we start tomorrow with our week with a front continuing to pull away. High pressure still dominating the weatheR And Behind this Weather Front, a cold front, it will be slightly cooler and we also have a brisk northerly wind. Tomorrow along the North Sea Coastline it will feel quite bracing and here, too, we will have all this cloud. Not necessarily just a big bank of cloud through the day. They should be some brighter breaks developing, we should see a bit of sunshine. But really the Cloud Breaking up in the west mean the West Tomorrow again will see the Lions Share of The Sunshine and here we are looking at temperatures 21, possibly 23 and around argyll 2i, possibly 23 and around Argyll And Bute but elsewhere between 15 and bute but elsewhere between 15 and about 21 degrees. As we head on into the latter part of the working week, High Pressure still very much in charge of our weather stopped our Weather Front has drifted away to the near continent and the isobars still not too close together, still quite breezy, especially across the South Eastern corner. On friday we start off with a bright note, some sunshine, bit developing through the day. The Lions Share of The Sunshine once again in scotland and also across Northern Ireland. Temperatures On Friday taking a bit of a dip so they will not be at high as in the early part of the week. Between 1a and 21 degrees. We will notice it when we have had high temperatures across south West Scotland. The outlook remains unsettled with High Pressure firmly in charge and temperatures getting up in charge and temperatures getting up to about 20. Its 8. 59. This is Bbc News with the latest headlines.
