Fight, in decades. President biden says the much criticised Evacuation Effort from Kabul Airport is accelerating, with american troops expanding the perimeter around the site. In a televised speech at the white House Mr Biden said the taliban had cooperated with the move. Huge crowds of people desperate to get out are continuing to gather at the airport. Anisa kadri reports. Hoping, waiting to leave afghanistan, they gather outside Kabul Airport as gunshots i had. Witnesses said the taliban invited in the air to make people line up in orderly queues, but it is not yet if these shots were triggered in the same instance. These afghans are leaving everything they know to start from Scratch Stop America says it has evacuated 30,000 people in just over one week. Their president hopes they will be no need to extend the August 31 a deadline for a complete us withdrawal. My withdrawal. My Heart Aches for those people you see. We are proving that we can move though thousands of people out of kabul. We are bringing our citizens, nato allies, afghanis who have helped us in the war effort, but we have a long way to go, and a lot could still go wrong. This is the panjshir valley, and they are unable to have a hand of im massoud said he was ready for talks to avert a civil war. This is the smallest province and afghanistan, and what we are standing for right now is for the whole country, for sovereignty, for peace. It is for people. It is for Inclusivity And Tolerance and acceptance and moderation. He is backed by the countrys first Vice President , who now considers himself the legitimate Caretaker President of afghanistan. We will not let me be very clear we will not accept clerical dictatorship and my country. We make peace, but the piece should not mean a surrender to a group with a massive record of Human Rights Violations, massacre of people. You name it. That will not happen. The last time the taliban was in power in the 1990s, women werent allowed to work. Girls couldnt go to school. Even now, they defend punishment is like lashings and stoning adulterers to death. Today, you do see some women about an kabul, but few of them. Many are too afraid to step outside. Many worry that while the taliban do Promise Women will be able to work and get an education, the group will grow increasingly strict when at the international focus comes to an end. Anisa kadri, bbc news. Lets speak now to minas List Founder and Executive Director Tanya Henderson who is an international Human Rights lawyer. Minas list promotes political participation and womens rights. It has been working in afghanistan since 2014. Ta nyas in california. A very warm welcome to the programme. You can tell us what is happening on the ground. I know you have been in touch with journalists, parliamentarians who do work with you, women and those roles. What do they say . Yes, thank you so much for this opportunity. I am yes, thank you so much for this opportunity. Iam really yes, thank you so much for this opportunity. I am really glad you are highlighting the state for women at this moment in time. The state for all afghans in this moment in time is quite desperate. But, for those that are saying this is a new taliban, please do not be mistaken. The behaviours, the actions that have already begun, that have been happening in the providences that they have taken over, girls not being allowed to go to school, women not being allowed to go outside unless escorted, even the doctors or groceries. This is Making Its way into kabul. Is this what you are hearing from people you are in touch with and afghanistan . Yes, what is being said by all the women, all people i am in touch with and afghanistan, but if you pay attention to twitter the benefit of technology these days is that many of these days is that many of these incidences of Human Rights Violations are being caught on video, and transmitted, so the taliban can no longer say that they respect womens rights, Human Rights, because we have the footage. Do you believe that as time goes by, women will not be allowed to work . Looking at World Bank statistics for last year alone, for example, i am trying to remember i think it was about a third of the workforce in afghanistan are women. The new governing regime, whatever that is taliban control, we assume it cannot afford to not allow women to work, presumably . You would think so, however, i heard of a case, it might have only been yesterday. In one of the districts the taliban had said that women can go back to work. But then, within a day, meant that men and women would be working together in the same office and so they were sent home. But, to be frank, whether women can go to work at all girls can go to school, we are looking at a much more desperate situation at this moment in time. Every Woman Leader that i know that i have been working with since 2014, their homes have been raided, their homes have been raided, their officers have been raided, and they have been told to lay low, keep quiet, stand down if they want to survive. Every single woman i know is on the talibans guiltless. This is the situation they are facing. And you dont believe this time around, compared to the late 19905 around, compared to the late 1990s when they were last in control of afghanistan, the international scrutiny will impact what the taliban does going forward . No, i think in fact the taliban have gotten much more savvy and smart. They know how to speak to western audiences and international audiences now. They know the right things to say. I think they are quietly waiting for the international forces to leave. I think something that is particularly interesting as they also understand the power of communication and media, and one of the things that has been happening is that once the taliban Takeover District or province, they immediately cut off all communication or means from that province, so we can no longer monitor Human Rights Violations. We dont know what is happening. They have been doing that on multiple levels. They know how many they have a head for every single member of the household, each household in kabul. They have cameras on the streets, they have soldiers walking up and down the streets. If there is a single movement from one neighbour to another, they know about it. This is a whole other taliban. Thank you so much for being on the programme and giving us a sense of what is happening to the woman you are in touch with and afghanistan. We shall have more on the situation in afghanistan in our Business Coverage in about 20 minutes onto this programme as well so stay with us. Lets get some of the days other news. Tanya dendrinos, bbc news. Iran has reported a Record Number of deaths from Covid 19, more than 680 in a single day. This is despite six days of restrictions that ended on saturday. Iran is dealing with what officials are calling a Fifth Wave of the virus. The bbc s az a Day Moshiri reports. After six days of restrictions, iranians are back on the streets. But at what cost . Just as restrictions were lifted, officials revealed that the Fifth Wave of the Covid 19 pandemic has tightened its grip on the country. New figures show that deaths are continuing to hit Record Numbers. Spiking from more than 500 deaths before the restrictions to 684. Means that since the pandemic began iran has registered more than Four Million covid cases and more than 102,000 deaths. And while officials insist that irans own vaccine is effective there is no public data to prove it. Looking at the figures, despite a population of more than 80 million, just over 5 Million have received both doses. The number of iranians who are able to leave the country to go to the caucuses can produce vaccines that make obtain vaccines produced in the west. There is ample evidence that iranians do not trust the vaccines produced in country. The government vowed to import more vaccine. But in the meantime, iranians are still facing a deadly wave of the virus. That is a look at the latest sports news, i have all the top Business Stories coming up. Hello there. After the rather cloudy weather we had to contend with last week, this week does promise something just a little bit brighter. Certainly it will be largely dry with some spells of warm sunshine. Having said that, no heatwave on the way, temperatures will be nothing exceptional for the time of year, but the High Pressure firmly building in and taking control of our weather. That is why it will be mainly dry and settled but the winds around high Pressure Flow in a clockwise direction so we will pull our air down from the north and not tapping into any of this heat across parts of southern europe. So as we head through monday, we will start off with a lot of Mist And Murkiness and a lot of cloud around, much will break up, though, to reveal some spells of sunshine. I think it will stay a little misty and murky on some western coasts and it will be another quite grey and gloomy day across shetLand. A small chance for a shower over high ground in western scotLand, wales and the South West but most places fine the rain with light winds, some spells of sunshine so not feeling too bad. 21, 22, but maybe 24 degrees in parts of western scotLand. Now, as we head through monday evening, any showers that do crop up in the west will fade, its going to be dry with clear spells but with areas of cloud but this area of cloud here may well work into parts of eastern engLand and perhaps into the midLands and then continue its journey westwards as we head through the day on tuesday. So it could cloud over a little bit across some parts of wales, maybe even with the Odd Spot of drizzle. Some misty murky weather clinging to these northern and western coasts but, elsewhere, tuesday will bring further spells of sunshine. Again, the highest temperatures likely to be across western scotLand, parts of northern ireLand as well. Up to 24, possibly 25 degrees. Wednesday, a similar sort of day, the best of the sunshine in the west, more cloud filtering into eastern areas and also this noticeable northerly wind starting to develop close to eastern coasts so that will knock the edge off the temperatures here. The highest temperatures once again out towards the west. Subtle change as we head towards thursday, our area of High Pressure is likely to drift away northwards allowing this frontal system to work into the picture. Not a lot of rain with that, but a lot of cloud into eastern areas and coupled with that strong northerly breeze, it is going to feel really quite cool for the eastern coast. Not quite as cool further west, but even here temperatures are coming down a little as we head towards the end of the week
