19 or 20, thats the very best of it. Furtherwest, cloud, stilla 19 or 20, thats the very best of it. Further west, cloud, still a bit of drizzle here and there and that will still be there this evening. Overnight The Cloud pushes back to the east, The Cloud will thicken and we will get further Rain And Drizzle around, some Mist And Fog over the hills in the west. Yes, it will be a mild night and a lot milder than last night in the North East of scotland. The Weather Pattern Today continues into tomorrow with high pressure to the South West of the uk, it never reaches us just yet. This is the airflow, this long the track means we are picking up the Moisture And Cloud and within the airflow every now and again we get these Weather Fronts thickening The Cloud and bringing rain. That is what is happening overnight and tomorrow morning. We started dull and damp, some Rain And Drizzle around, the worst of it moves away during the morning but still some pockets of dampness left over here and there into the afternoon. It may brighten up across the Country'>West Country, some Eastern Parts of scotland, giving temperatures a boost to 21 celsius but otherwise a 17 20 like Todayis Celsius but otherwise a 17 20 like today is more like it. It should be around 20 2li at this time of the year. Looking ahead to wednesday, no significant changes. We have some towns and cities on the forecast for you, a lot of cloud, sunshine in short supply, for the most part it will be dry but it is going to feel quite chilly. Things change a bit on thursday. It is not going to be as windy, we dont have high pressure in the South West, pressure is falling, and that means more rain coming in, im afraid. That will move eastwards across wales come across southern england, through the midlands as well, further North Something may be a bit brighter perhaps but still some patchy Rain And Drizzle lingering across northern parts of scotland. Temperatures of 17 20 c will not change much and that is disappointing for this time of the year. As we have seen, it is a cool week ahead, lots of cloud around and every now and again a bit of Rain And Drizzle. Thank you, i think Darren Bett with the latest weather prospects. A night of Music And Entertainment took place at Wembley Last Night to welcome home the olympic stars of Team Gb. It was the first time the athletes have had a chance to celebrate together, as they flew home within two days of competing in tokyo. 22 golds, 21 silvers and 22 bronzes. Its great to see so many of them here tonight. Its actually really nice to be home, because when you are out there you are in such a little bubble that you dont really know, like, what the atmosphere or the feeling is when you get back. So to come back, and obviouslyjust then we had a reception with all the Team Gb athletes, and yeah, it was such an incredible buzz. It was just a really nice place to be just then. At all the olympic games, youre always in a bubble. But like you say, normally you can sort of step out and see people its been a little bit bizarre, yeah. I went to do my shopping at morrisons the other Day And Someone screamed, theres a Celebrity Walking into morrisons i was like, im not a celebrity, im not but, you know, itsjust lovely, its just so nice that people actually like Pay Attention to weightlifting, people appreciate it feels amazing to be back. Amazing to be back with my family, spend time with everyone. Its been a bit manic, but were going away very soon, so i can get some chilled time, which will be really nice. Ill have more for you in the next hour. Lets get more on our top story now the seizure of power in afghanistan by the taliban. Our afghanistan Correspondent Secunder Kermani has just come back from the Country he is now in the pakistan Capital Islamabad earlier, he gave us the latest on the situation in kabul. Utter chaos with the airport in kabul today, thousands of people trying to flee the Country. Trying to flee the Country. There were rumours trying to flee the Country. There were rumours people trying to flee the Country. There were rumours people were trying to flee the Country. There were rumours people were able| trying to flee the Country. There i were rumours people were able to trying to flee the Country. Ti were rumours people were able to get onto flights without having visas and that led to a huge Cloud Rushing towards the airport trying to get inside the premises and at one stage we were told that american forces opened fire, we are not quite sure weather as a result of that fire are a stampede that ensued eyewitnesses see a number of people died. There are desperate videos uploaded to Social Media by Afghan Media that show crowds of people running along military planes as they take off trying to cling on to the wings and tyres and some of them apparently falling from the air and dying. Real scenes of panic they are. We were told the taliban had been stationed outside the airport and have been trying also to control this situation because theres been so much panic. Yesterday we saw Big Trafficjams much panic. Yesterday we saw big Traffic Jams and much panic. Yesterday we saw Big Trafficjams and people trying to make their way outside the city. Todayit make their way outside the city. Today it is unusually quiet, many, many shops and bazaars are closed. The taliban are out in force, they say to prevent looting and any social unrest and people are awaiting what the groups plans are under awaiting detailed announcements. They have said the war is now over and they are heading towards the president ial palace. The government says its confident it can get british nationals out of afghanistan, with plans for hundreds more to leave in the next few days. Afghans who worked for British Forces will also be evacuated. Our correspondent Sangita Myska is at Raf Brize Norton in oxfordshire. This is where a lot of people will be brought to, those who can be got out of the Country. Yes. Raf Brize Norton is the head of Raf Transport operations which means the aircraft taking off from here and heading towards kabul will be the ones upon which people will be airlifted so those people fall into two categories, british passport holders and those entitled to come into this Country, who qualified for example under a Scheme Set Up by the government to bring interpreters of afghan origin with their families back to the uk because they are under imminent threat. The carriers that will be leaving this Air Base will be, voyagers, c17s, atlas and hercules planes. Voyagers can carry 300 people and atlas 150. I have been told that number can be increased but would need special permission to do that. He implied very heavily people coming on this flight will be told gather what you can and get on. For security reasons, as you can imagine, the raf dont want the taliban knowing exactly when flights will be leaving here and landing in Kabul And Vice versa. They want to ensure these operations are safe. The defence secretary, ben wallace, today said he hoped british citizens would be airlifted out of the Country by the end of the month. He knows the last flight to leave carrying about 300 passengers. What i can tell you is this is an incredibly difficult operation. What we know for sure is that over the course of the weekend the Raf Deployed Paratroopers kabul to Kabul Airport and they were they are trying to secure that airstrip that they happen to be using. Kabul airport is a commercial airports apart will be used for the sort of operations and the rest is for commercial flights operations and the rest is for Commercialflights On Operations and the rest is for commercial flights on the ground so there are very distressing pictures you saw of afghan citizens trying to get onto those flights, they are grounded and will not be able to get out. This is a wait and see situation for the raf. We will of course keep you up to date through the afternoon with that really fast moving situation on the ground in afghanistan and that Government Cobra Meeting this lunchtime. A Bbc Investigation has found that hospitals across the Country have taken part in Emergency Exercises in Case Ageing Concrete causes a roof collapse. One hospital is limiting operations on patients who weigh more than 19 stone because of fears the floor could give way. 32 nhs buildings and 7 hospitals across the Country are constructed with a low quality lightweight concrete. Nhs england says trusts have continued to provide safe services for patients. Nikki fox has this exclusive report. Steel posts holding up the roof on a childrens ward, on a maternity unit, where mothers lie with new babies. Seven hospitals in england, all constructed with a type of lightweight concrete. But it is failing and all need to be rebuilt. So we are currently on one of our service corridors. What you can see above you is a latticework of structural timbers. Should a plank fall, they will cradle them and support them. The West Suffolk Hospital was built with concrete rack planks. They were never meant to last and are 15 years beyond their expected lifespan. The Trusts Risk Assessment is clear without the safety measures, the threat of planks failing is immediate. But they will take two years to install, so they have commissioned a corporate Manslaughter Report in Case Anything goes wrong. The situation we are facing, it is unprecedented. Why would you describe it as being unprecedented . No one is clear the way in which this structure will perform as it gets to that kind of age. Documents obtained by Bbc Look East show last year, trusts in the east took part in exercise hodges. It simulated a scenario in which part of the hospital collapsed because of concrete planks failing. At west suffolk, all the external walls are made of rack. The technical briefing states how nearly all of the Wall Planks have some corrosion, with a risk of severe corrosion in two thirds. And how much do these planks weigh . Broadly, they are about a third of a tonne. So that is why it is so important to make sure that this support is in place . It is, yes. A new West Suffolk Hospital could be nine years away. Seven hospitals across the Country need rebuilding because of crumbling concrete. Airedale in West Yorkshire has no guarantee of funding. Nor does hinchingbrooke in cambridgeshire, where the ageing building is causing major issues. The Concrete Panelling is also affecting the Load Bearing on some of the floors, which means that patients heavier than 19 Stone Cant be operated on in some of the theatres. Shutting some of the hospitals to do the repairs quicker was considered. If we were to close a hospital then the burden would fall on those neighbouring hospitals and the nhs as a whole is going through a time when we are extremely busy. Thousands of Emergency Beds would be lost if all seven hospitals closed for repairs. Nhs england says trusts are maintaining a safe service for patients, who should access Hospital Care as they normally would. Nikki fox, Bbc News. Now its time to hear some of the stories making the news across the uk. A Boxing Club and Community Centre in South London says its future is at risk because of flooding and Theres Criticism of the local council for not taking the problem seriously. Balham Boxing Club is credited with helping young people stay out of trouble and giving its members a positive attitude. Ayshea buksh reports. Its Muscle Work of a different kind for these boxers in balham. Theyre back in training after their club was forced to close because of flooding. This was the Clubs Locker Room and changing area just a few weeks ago. So this is whats happened from the floods. Here, lockers. This is like. Its not the first time it has happened. What the damage has done from previous floods. Since weve been here we have always had issues with floods. But since they done the redevelopment of The Park its got considerably worse. Its sad because the waters rotted a lot of wooden stuff. Theres wooden slats for the Boxing Ring and theres chairs and brooms and down there the toilets as well have been ruined because the Water Wasjust so high. This is the one place where i feel like i fully try, this is the one place where i feel. Like i dont care what people think. I dont know where id be without this place. | like, i dont. Well, its clear that Wandsworth Council recognise that flooding is a big issue for this local area and they are keen to point out that they plan to redevelop this entire site and improve all the sporting facilities. But in the short term theres a sense locally that theyre not taking the Upkeep And Drainage perhaps as seriously as they should be. As it stands, we havent had a lot of help. And considering we are an amateur club we rely on that help financially, and the support, you know, the young people and the general members of The Club, they need that support for The Club to keep ongoing. The redevelopment of the Park And Club is now subject to a public Planning Inquiry with much wider local opposition to the plans. Meanwhile, The Club says it will carry on fighting for its future in and out of the ring. Ayshea buksh, bbc london. A Majorjazz Festival in powys in wales has been criticised for deciding to scale back, despite the ending of social distancing restrictions. Breconjazz is taking place with limited audiences and no fringe events. Some businesses say the reduced capacity will hit them financially but organisers have defended their cautious approach, as Morgan Hammond reports watching live music is something many of us have missed out on in recent times. And with this years Breconjazz Festival Taking Place in front of a limited audience, whilst also being streamed online, it is fair to say it has a very different feel to it. Local business owners in the town are far from happy at the lack of passing trade. Absolutely gutted, we are. The town is usually buzzing but there is no one here. It usually takes five or six hours to clear the queues on an evening. The coronavirus has been a terrible time for us anyway. It is slightly better now but the jazz would have been wonderful. Up to 80,000 people would normally flock here over the weekend to watch the greats of the Jazz World come together. But this time round, you would be forgiven for being unaware it is taking place. It is really disappointing Comedy Clubs are normally packed and everyone has a good weekend. Loads of people come back if they are local from wherever and it is nice to see everyone. You will see everybody in big crowds but no one comes to The Little Ones any more. People have forgotten about them. Hopefully next Year Itll be bigger and will remember. Despite restrictions easing in wales and other festivals like Green Man going ahead in front of a capacity crowd, organisers have defended their cautious approach. We have been liaising with the County Council and they have been helpful. It has been carefully done. Yes, you were saying about the roads and. We cannot attract loads of people to all throng in the streets and i dont think people would want that this year. For the lucky few, the enjoyment was evident to see. Many locals are now hoping that historically one of europes largest Jazz Festivals can get back to its former glory as soon as the pandemic is over. There were so many stand out moments for Team Gb this year in tokyo among them those wonderful scenes at the pool when Tom Daley finally won gold, alongside Diving Partner Matty lee. Well, toms now back in the uk with the rest of the british athletes he spoke to sally nugent. Tom, i would like to know whats in that bag of magical stuff that youve brought today. Well, ive got the knitjumper that i made, this is it. My Team Gbjumper. A couple of medals in here as well. I just want to say, though, that Gold Medal for you. Yeah, honestly, it was. Winning an olympic Gold Medal has been my dream since i was a little kid. And to actually have that medal be put round my neck, by matty, it was just, it was a total dream come true. So who is behind that medal . Oh, so many people. I mean, obviously my Coach And Matty helped me get there but my dad for taking me to my first training sessions, travelling around the world, watching me. My mum, who helps me all the time. All of my friends, but obviously most importantly, lance, my husband, my son, who have inspired me every day to keep going. Do you want to put it on . Oh, Id Love to, am i allowed . Yeah. Are you sure . Yeah the inside looks ugly because thats where the Colour Work is. Thats ok. Oh, gosh, its an honour. Honestly, go for it. Oh, i like it. When i say im obsessed with knitting, i was knitting on the bus to the pool, on the Bus Home from the pool, in the stands whenever i had a spare moment, while the other boys in our apartment were playing video games, i would just sit and knit. How do you manage the tougher sides of fame . Oh, good question. I mean, you know, ive learned, as ive gotten older, to not care so much about what other people think. Its also a lesson that my dad taught me. I used to find him so embarrassing, and he used to do things where i would be like, what are you doing . You know, bursting in on press conferences, doing all these things and i wasjust like, i thought it was extremely embarrassing. Im toms dad. Tom, can i give you a cuddle . Please . Come on, please . Now, being a parent and being slightly older, i realise he just didnt care what other people thought. If he wanted to go and see his son and give him a hug after winning the world championships, he was going to go and do that and he didnt care what anyone else thought about it. What would he say to you now, sitting here with a Gold Medal in front of you, at last . I mean, the crazy thing is, and when i look back, he never, ever got to see me win any of my olympic medals. He got to see me compete in beijing, so he got to see me go to the olympic games, but he wasnt around for london 2012, rio or tokyo. So i think he would be extremely proud to think that i have not only got four olympic medals but one of them is a gold one. I would be really excited to have got the opportunity to speak to him after that event. And i know he would have done something crazy, he would have gotten down off the balcony, he probably would havejumped in the pool, he would have been the streaker of the olympics ijust know he would have done something silly. Yeah, itjust makes me extremely proud to think of all the hard work and all the sacrifice that he put into my diving career, id say its worth it. Proud is a word i want to pick up on, because i remember watching you saying how proud you were to stand there with your medal in this competition at the olympic games as a gay man, proud of who you are. You know, ifeel incredibly lucky to be from great britain, being able to stand on that Diving Board and not feel afraid of any ramifications or even fearfor my life. There are still ten countries at those olympic games where being gay is punishable by death in their countries. So ijust hope that winning an olympic Gold Medal, winning any olympic medal, or going to the olympics as a gay person, a member of the lgbt community, that any young kids out there that feel like theyre never going to achieve anything just because of who they are, they know that with hard work, you can achieve anything, no matter who you are, where you come from, you can be the best in the world. Its only three years till paris. Yes i know, its not very long to paris and i remember always saying, the thing is, i always said im going to keep going as long as, as long as my body will let me or until i win an olympic Gold Medal. Now ive got my olympic Gold Medal, im like, that felt kind of good. I dont know, maybe ill try it again. But honestly, but for now, im taking a bit of a break, going to spend some time with my family, see where, you know, life lands me, and well make decisions about moving forward about diving soon, well, hopefully the next few months, i guess. Just been such a pleasure to talk to you. Tom daley, thank you so much. Thank you for having me. Now its time for a look at the weather with Darren Bett. Hello. It will be a quiet week ahead and not very warm with a lot of cloud and Rain And Drizzle from time to time as well. This sort of sky has been fairly typical across the uk today. We have seen some sunshine, the best across eastern areas of scotland. Even here it doesnt feel particularly warm because of the north westerly wind. That should mean more Sunshine Heading Southwards across the Eastern Parts of england but some patchy drizzle heading towards the midlands towards the south east. That will peter out later on and Temperature Struggle up to 19 or 20 degrees at best. Hanging on to more cloud and western areas and a little drizzle as well.
