Out of all the Medals Kenny has won this seems to mean the most i never wanted to win herve so badly in my life and that was the one. Ive messaged Jason Today and said i feel like me olympics and is today. That was really my main target. The netherlands have won gold in the Womens Hockey beating argentina in the final, but also picking up a medal in the early hours of the morning our time were Team Gb. Despite being the defending champions from rio, its a huge achievement given the changes the team has been through since 2016. Michael redford watched their dramatic Bronze Medal Match against india. Under the Burning Sun in tokyo, one final chance to shine. For Great Britain and india, it was now or never. Who could handle the heat . The two teams had already met in the group stage, with Great Britain winning 4 1. The early stages here suggested a similar scoreline seemed likely. Britains dominance, though, eventually told. Came off an indian player and Great Britain are ahead. It was a goal that woke india up. Thankfully for Great Britain, Maddie Hinch was alert as well. What a save from Maddie Hinch that save was all the more important that shortly after Sarah Robertson picked the perfect time to score her first goal of the tournament. Great britain in control. Maybe not. Gurjit kaur with a precise finish. And when india had a second Penalty Corner moments later, Great Britain didnt learn their lesson. Hinch is beaten again and india are level the momentum had changed. India now in control and in front at half time. What had begun as a Dream Quarter turned into a bit of a nightmare. They needed somebody to awaken them from their slump. Step forward Captain Hollie Pearne webb. All square, the match now delicately poised. And it swung in gb s favour. Grace balsdon with the effort. The relief clear for all to see. And this time there would be no comeback. Bronze medal for Great Britain its been a tough five years. Really, really tough. Gas and electricity bills will increase for millions of people in october, after the Regulator Ofgem raised the Energy Price Cap by a record amount. On average, a household on a standard tariff will pay an extra £139 a year, while those on Prepayment Meters face an increase of £153. Charities have warned that the timing will hit struggling families hard. Colletta smith reports. Summer holiday thrills dont come cheap, so the thought of an increase in Energy Bills in the autumn is a worrying one. But thats what will be happening from the 1st of october. I know a lot of families, theyre strictly on the line, arent they . So even £20 is a lot of money, isnt it . Its food for the week. It will impact half of all the hassles in britain. It will impact everyone on prepayment metres or the default standard variable tariff. That is half of all the households in britain. Ofgem insists the changes are necessary because of the rising in wholesale energy. Weve seen an increase in notjust Gas And Electricity but also Gas And Diesel and we had to feed that into the Price Cap and the Price Cap means we do not go back to the bad old days where companies charge unfair profits on top of the amount that you pay, but, clearly, when input costs change that limit needs to change. The autumn is when we stick on our Heating And Electricity so much more but its also a moment that furlough comes to an end and universal credit is being cut. Debt charities say this increase could not have come at a worse time and it will hit families who are struggling the most. We are faced with a bit of a conundrum that will end up being food versus fuel, i believe. How will the poorest in society and be able to suck it up . Were already on the breadline and working on the closest balance of finance in a long, long time. With another two months to go until prices go up, there is still time to shop around for a better deal. Coletta smith, bbc news. Infection rates across england are falling with two sets of statistics showing drops in the number of people infected with coronavirus. Our Health Correspondent Katharine Da Costa is here with more details. What do the figures tell us . The number of people Testing Positive for than in england, scotland and wales but infections are still rising in northern ireland. This is the first Uk Fall since early may but they say that Infection Rates are still high in the uk and they want to see more data to be confident that we are past the peak of this convent way. This date looks at the last week of july so it is backward Love King and you can still test positive several weeks after an initial infection so it often takes longer for the daily case figures to show up in the ons data. Backward looking. The survey are seen as a more reliable source of data because it is based on a random sample of swabs from households including people who are asymptomatic so it gives a bigger picture of what is going on rather than the daily figures that rely on people coming forward with symptoms. We have also had the R Numberfor England and it is fallen compared to last week. It is now not. 82 0. 1 so to put that into context for every ten infected people on a fridge they would be expected to pass the virus on to between eight and 11 people. In the last hour, wales first Minister Mark Drakeford has announced a lifting of restrictions in wales from saturday, including nightclubs being be able to reopen, and social distancing laws being lifted. But he said that the restrictions did not mean a free for all, and that they were carefully following the data. I can confirm that we will be moving to alert Level Zero here in wales from 6am tomorrow. Having reached this important milestone, we now need carefully to monitor the impact of lifting so many restrictions. We therefore do not expect to make any further changes at the next review. The changes weve announced today set the pattern for at least the next six weeks, and thats why this is such a significant moment for us all. For the first time since the pandemic began, all business will be able to open and all legal limits on meeting people in indoor, private spaces will be removed as well. But alert Level Zero does not mean The End of coronavirus, and it very certainly does not mean a free for all here in wales. We still have people who are clinically vulnerable in our communities, and most people in wales want to go on acting carefully to protect their health and the health of others. Because, while we go on doing so, we can all enjoy personal freedoms with a confidence there are still important protections in place to make sure our Public Health is being safeguarded. So, even at alert Level Zero, we will continue to ensure that employers take steps to protect their workers and customers. Covid Risk Assessments will be a legal requirement for all businesses, employers and event organisers. Now, they will have greater flexibility about the reasonable measures that they must put in place based on that Risk Assessment to reduce exposure to the virus, but the measures that are identified must be implemented. And here in wales, the advice of the welsh government continues to be that people should work from home wherever that is possible. Face coverings will continue to be a legal requirement in indoor places, except for Education And Hospitality settings, and, of course, On Public Transport and when visiting a Hospital Or Care homes. As from this weekend, there will be no legal limit on the number of people who can meet in private homes but also in Public Spaces or at events. And as ive said, all businesses will now be reopened. The Department For Education is to fund hundreds of extra places at medical schools in england because more students than expected have got the required a level grades after exams were scrapped for the second consecutive year. Numbers on Medicine And Dentistry courses are usually capped by the government because of the cost, and the need for clinical placements in the nhs. Elaine dunkley reports. Doctors and dentists are much in demand but there is tough competition for places at university, the numbers are capped because of the cost of courses. But with more students this year expected to qualify after exams were replaced with teacher assessed grades, the government is asking universities to take on more students. Universities are not fully ready for the challenge, because they gave out their Offers for medical courses months ago, and now there is going to be huge Grade Inflation probably on tuesday, so theyre going to have far more students saying they have a right to come to the course than the university has places available. A degree in Medicine Cost around £180,000 so the numbers are capped by the government. In 2019, that meantjust over 8,300 students starting Medicine And Dentistry degrees in england. Last year, because of chaos caused by changes to how A Levels were graded, an extra a50 places were created. Now the government says in england, the cap will be lifted to more than 9,000 places and extra money will be found. Its good news for students who want a career in medicine. Julia has secured a place at oxford and says after a tough year, its good news for students who want a career in medicine. Its really good news that the government is supporting Medicine Students and allowing lots of people to access those resources. Especially considering how hard it has been to get those grades in the past year. But universities say its not just about money, they need time to prepare. This week, Exeter University Offered £10,000 to persuade some medical students to defer. If theres an element of Grade Inflation, universities will work flexibly to make sure they are really working in the interest of students but id also point to clearing. Clearing is increasingly attractive. Next week, students will find out their a level results, and with some courses oversubscribed, the pressure will shift to universities to find the places. Elaine dunkley, bbc news. The government has defended the Minister Alok Sharma who has travelled abroad to more than 30 countries in his role as president of the climate summit, cop26. A spokesperson said face to Face Diplomacy was vital in Securing Key committments ahead of the meeting in glasgow later this year. Our political correspondent Jonathan Blake has the latest. It is the Shear Amount of Air Miles hes racked up in the course of that that has drawn criticism and raised eyebrows. As you say, more than 30 countries since taking on the role, and hasnt not had to quarantine when returning those on the amber or Red List because Government Ministers are exempt from that rule if theyre travelling on official business. But labour and the Liberal Democrats say this is another example of one rule for Government Ministers and one rule for everybody else, and the greens say the travel has been excessive and hypocritical, hinting at the environmental impact of all this air travel. The government, though, defending his trips, saying that while virtual meetings play a large part, face to face meetings are crucial to achieving the governments Climate Change aims and hes not been doing this in secret, just yesterday tweeting pictures of his trip to brazil, which is of course on the Red List, talking about constructive meetings there. So, potentially embarrassing for the government, with some criticism coming their way. Whether it gets any more difficult will depend on the Credibility And Success of the Cop26 Summit itself was all this Effort Worth It in The End . Jonathan blake. Nearly 80,000 people have signed a Petition Calling on borisjohnson to stop the killing of an alpaca called geronimo, whos twice tested positive for bovine tuberculosis. The animals owner in gloucestershire claims the tests were inaccurate. Andrew plant explains. Geronimo, in quarantine at this Gloucestershire Farm for the past four years, since he was imported from new zealand. Now, though, hes set to be Destroyed, after owner helen lost her fight against his positive tests for tb. Sick. Absolutely sick. Because all of this was avoidable. Weve had four years of trying to just sit down and rationally discuss the science. The science is just not there. Farmers everywhere have Cattle Tested, and then they get a positive result and they have to put those animals down. Why are you different . Because the Cattle Test is designed for cattle, and its an established programme, that is the test for cattle. The Environment Secretary George eustice said hed looked into geronimos case and, though he sympathised, the alpacas tests, he said, were highly specific and reliable. Helens been fighting the results of the test for the past four years, but the High Court says the results still stand. Now, yesterday, a notice of entry was issued, and that means any time in the next 30 days, officials could turn up here to put geronimo down. In a statement, defra said. Testing results and options for geronimo have been very carefully considered, as well as passing several stages of thorough legal scrutiny. While nobody wants to cull infected animals, we need to do everything we can to tackle this disease. More than 40,000 cows are culled in the uk each year, after Testing Positive for tb. Helen says geronimo passed multiple tests before being imported and thinks the two tests here were flawed. Shes still hoping this eight year old alpaca can somehow be saved. Andrew plant, bbc news. Now its time for a look at the weather with louise lear. That afternoon. We are likely to close out friday as we began with plenty of sharp thundery temples around because of this area of low pressure which is really not moving very far very fast. So far today the heaviest of the rain has been further north but as we go to the evening hours and overnight you can see widespread shows to begin with and then more sharper showers developed across parts of West Wales and may be moving up to the Essex And Kent coast as well. It stays relatively mild so ill start to begin with on saturday but then we do it all again. Plenty of showers spiralling around that low so starting out off to the west and then drifting their way further east, perhaps eastern area seeing fewer showers but you wont be immune to them altogether. Top temperatures by Saturday Afternoon peaking at 20 degrees and little in the way of change as we move into sunday so if you havent already guessed it, yes, our Weekend Headline is going to continue to be one of Thundery Showers with some sunny spells. At the arena, a show must go on, but with new checks for the opera lovers. Italy is beginning another act in its covid 19 story, but the Unity Felt Last year is fading. The government is to introduce a Cancellation Insurance Scheme to try to protect live events, including Music Festivals and business conferences. The scheme is designed to allow organisers to plan with greater certainty. More than half of all Music Festivals were cancelled this summer, with many saying an inability to obtain covid related insurance was a factor in their decision. Heres our Entertainment Correspondent Lizo mzimba. Lockdown may have been lifted, but the Music Industry says its still been a disappointing summer. While some festivals have gone ahead a few as part of the Governments Pilot Programme when it comes to large scale events with a capacity of more than 50,000, more than half have been cancelled, so the £750 million scheme has been broadly welcomed by an industry which sees festivals as a big part of the countrys economic recovery. Look at things like glastonbury, which generates hundreds of millions of pounds for the local area, and concerts across the country that help create jobs, growth, growth of supply chains. As were looking to recover from this pandemic, large Music Events can be the key, can be one of the drivers of this Post Pandemic and cultural recovery. But it hasnt delivered everything people hoped for. While festivals would be covered, in the event of a full lockdown, they wouldnt be covered if Social Distancing Rules were brought in which reduced capacity and made It Uneconomic for the event to go ahead. And with the Scheme Starting in september, its left huge numbers disappointed it wasnt brought in earlier. With the cancellations that have happened across the summer, extremely frustrated for many who have had to cancel. And particularly for the many businesses behind these festivals, the supply chain, the freelancers, that have been beleaguered and lost so much revenue over this period due to those cancellations. So, all agree a step in the right direction, but the industry is keen for the government to keep working with them to provide the complete backing they say they need to protect the festival sector. Lizo mzimba, bbc news. Unvaccinated young people are being warned that they will Miss Out on access to nightclubs as part of an Advertising Campaign being launched by the government to boost take up. The campaign on billboards and Social Media will focus on the freedoms that vaccinations allow from Nightclubbing To Foreign Travel with London Venues including Ministry Of Sound urging people to getjabbed so they can all keep dancing together safely. I think what has been so heartening to see over the past year or so, are all of the mitigation measures that have been developed by the sector and put into place to ensure that. When people do go to festivals or an event it is an extremely safe environment, and we have certainly seen that with a government Research Programme as well. What we have seen recently in the festivals that have happened in the past couple of weeks are people who have been taking up over test before they go, so when you turn up, you can be very sure that people dont have coronavirus around you. It makes it a very safe environment for everybody. Moving beyond that testing regime, to bring it back to vaccines, having two jabs is absolutely critical towards that. Lets talk quickly about the Insurance Idea that the government has come forward with. Then you say they couldnt come forward this year because they couldnt get insurance. So while we welcome the news, it is important that the details of the scheme protect the industry from the scheme protect the industry from the real risk we are facing. The scheme as it is covers lockdown whether that is on a national or local level. A far more likely situation to close the show or an event now over the coming months is a Headline Artist caught the virus had to isolate or social distancing measures. Those arent covered under the scheme so we want to work closely with the government over the coming weeks as the details get refined from the scheme and ensure that it refined from the scheme and ensure thatitis refined from the scheme and ensure that it is really fit for purpose and we can help safeguard all of the hundreds of thousands of workers that rely on the Entertainment Industry being open. Doctors in leeds say they are treating greateR Numbers of Coronvirus Patients in hospital who are younger and unvaccinated. It comes as the head of Nhs England has said that one in five patients on wards in the country is aged between 18 and 34. Leeds Teaching Hospital has taken the unusual step of allowing us to film on one of their Covid 19 Wards, to highlight the risks younger people face by not having the jab. Our Health Correspondent Jamie Coulson has this exclusive report. Can you imagine yourself being stabbed in the back . That is what it felt like. You breathe and you are getting stabbed at the same time. Every time you take a breath, someone stabs you. Three days ago, fito was admitted to St James Hospital in leeds in excruciating pain. The 25 year old International Student is like many patients hospitals are now seeing in greateR Numbers. He is younger and not vaccinated. Im really worried because all the pain is going on inside my lungs and it is moving around and i heard some people, after they recover from covid 19, their lungs dont work 100 . Were you vaccinated . I havent. I was looking for a vaccination but i got covid 19 first. This doctor is a respiratory consultant on the Covid 19 Awards and says its concerning that they have seen a greater proportion of younger patients. What he has got is a complication of covid 19, a Blood Clot on his lungs, secondary to the covid 19inflamation. Now we now know that covid 19 increases the chance of getting Blood Clots significantly and there has been a big surge of the number of patients we are seeing with Blood Clots from covid 19. Hopefully, the pain will get better in the next day or so. These people are young and fit, most of them. And theyre still getting serious covid 19, and we have to provide them with a lot of support. They are staying in hospital, some of them for quite long periods. And there is also a cost in terms of their recovery and because they are in the working life, it has got implications in the long term. This is one of three dedicated Covid 19 Wards at the trust and here, like elsewhere, they have seen an increase in the number of patients needing help in recent weeks. A significant proportion of them are either not vaccinated or only single vaccinated. After weeks of rising cases, the number of covid 19 patients at the trust has remained at about 100 for the last seven days. Without the vaccine, doctors say the situation could be much worse. If you think about the total number of patients being tested positive in the country compared with Hospital Admissions, there is no comparison compared to the first and second wave. So the overall numbers of admissions have significantly gone down and the only difference it made was the vaccine. And when they end up in hospital, what im seeing, the patients who had a vaccine tend to do better. Take the vaccine. I dont think anybody wants to experience what im experiencing right now. Like, feeling in pain every day, not to mention even the Painkiller Cant Help you. It is nine minutes to two. Three. It is nine minutes to two. Three. I not it is nine minutes to two. Three. I got that it is nine minutes to two. Three. I got that wrong it is nine minutes to two. Three. I got that wrong sorry. What they dont often know is that theyre sometimes swimming quite close to sharks. Each day before sunrise, Jason Iggleden films aerial shots of the stunning sea life. He says his footage often helps to reduce Peoples Fear of the creatures and acts as a warning system. Take a look at this. This guy might be in for a fright. Watch out, norman is about. Hes not going to see. Hes Gonna Go and say good day to this crew, are you . He just likes to say good day to everybody. Look at this. I fly around in the bondi area. Im out there from 20 minutes before sunrise every morning without fail. Norman, dont scare people. They dont see him. They never do. When i first started, this first shark i saw, i was like, quick, weve got to get them out of the water. As time went on, my perception changed from the sharks, especially with the great nurse. We see a lot of them in bondi, and around swimmers and surfers, not really showing any interest. So now, its about creating awareness that we can coexist with sharks. Ive had a Bronze Whale about 50 metres away from surfers, and i have a megaphone as well so i let them know, and they arejust like, yep, all right, all good. And they stay in, you know . But as soon as i mention great white shark, i call the lifeguards if its a dangerous event like that, definitely. Local characters, so alex the seal. Hey, alex. Norman, the great nurse shark. Good day, norman. Raymond the stingray. Oh, theres loads. Its actually alleviated a bit of their fear. I get so many messages saying they are not scared to go in the water any more because they know itjust norman. Its time to look at sharks in a different light, but in saying that, we still have to respect that its their ocean. How could you be afraid of creatures called Raymond And Norman . Now its time for a look at the weather with louise lear. Good afternoon. We are likely to close out friday with plenty of sundry downpours around. Two more golds on day 14 of tokyo 2020 have taken Team Gb up to fourth in the overall medals table. The first of the two was a historic one for Laura Kenny, who has become the most decorated female olympian. She and Katie Archibald were crowned the inaugral Womens Madison champions in the velodrome. Kenny is also the first british woman to win golds at three consecutive games, and this one is her fifth overall. The british pair dominated the 120 lap race, winning 10 of the 12 sprints on Offer to finish on 78 points. And out of all the Medals Kenny has won this seems to mean the most. I never wanted to win a race so badly in my life and that was the one. Ive messaged Jason Today and said ifeel like my olympics ends today. That was really my main target. You know, i love the Team Pursuit but it was giving me fears like ive never had before and once that was out of the way it was hard to say but i felt relieved because the one race i really wanted to do was comeing and all of a sudden we went and did it and there was another medal for Team Gb in the velodrome as Jack Carlin won an impressive bronze in the mens individual sprint, beating russian Denis Dmitriev for a spot on the podium to add to the silver he won in the team sprint. Kate french provided Gold Number18 forTeam Gb, continuing an excellent record in the modern pentathlon since the Womens Event was introduced in 2000. She went into the third discipline pretty well placed, but a clear round in the Show Jumping took french up to fifth for the final two events, which are combined in a so called Laser Run, when the athletes run four 800 metre laps with Range Shooting in between. French made up the 15 second gap on the leader to become britains second womens modern Pentathlon Champion ijust i just knew i ijust knew i had to focus and i knew i could do it if ijust focused on my shooting and ran as hard as i could. The team were supporting and i could hear them in the crowd and obviously, everyone back home, i cant thank them enough for their support and i honestly couldnt have done it without them and just thank you so much and thank you to National Lottery as well. I mean, i wouldnt be here without them either. It was bronze in the Womens Hockey for Team Gb too making the podium for the third games running, after beating india 4 3 in the Bronze Medal Match. It was a Topsy Turvy game the brits were 2 up, then 3 2 down, but fought back to win 4 3. Tears flowing at The End. Great britain Captain Hollie Pearne webb said, its been a tough five years. Despite being the champions last time around she said a Bronze Medal was beyond their wildest dream. Later, The Netherlands beat argentina to win a Gold Medal. And it will be at least a silver for british boxer lauren price, who will fight for a Gold Medal on the final day of tokyo 2020. She won her middleweight semifinal on friday. Her task got tougher in the second round when price was docked a point for excessively holding her dutch Opponent Nouch ka fontaine. But against someone shes faced in several majorfinals, price fought back in the last round to edge Victory And Book her place in the Gold Medal contest on sunday. Thats all the sport for now. So even a £20 is a lot of money, isnt it . Its food for their week. Itll impact everyone on prepayment metres or the default standard variable tariffs. Thats half of all the households in britain. Ofgem insists the changes are necessary because of the rising wholesale costs of energy. Weve seen an increase in Fossil Fuel prices across the board, actually. Notjust Gas And Electricity but also petrol and diesel. Weve had to feed that into the Price Cap, and what the Price Cap does is it means we do not go back to the bad old days where companies charged unfair profits on top of the amount that you pay, but, clearly, when input costs change that limit needs to change. The autumn is when we stick on our Heating And Electricity so much more, but its also a moment that furlough comes to an end and universal credit is being cut. Debt charities say this increase could not have come at a worse time and it will hit families who are struggling the most. We are faced with a bit of a conundrum, which is going to end up being food versus fuel, i believe. How are the poorest of society going to be able to suck it up . Were already on the breadline working on the closest balance of finance in a long, long time. With another two months to go until prices go up, theres still time to shop around for a better deal. Coletta smith, bbc news. The latest official weekly figures for Coronavirus Infections in the uk have confirmed that the number of cases is falling. The office for national statistics estimates that just over 810,000 people had covid 19 last week. Thats 140,000 fewer than the previous seven days. Our Health Correspondent Katharine Da Costa told me that while the ons said its encouraged by this fall, they cautioned that Infection Rates remain high across the uk. They want to see more data to be confident that we are past the peak of this current wave. Now, this data looks at the last week ofjuly so its backward looking and you can still test positive several weeks after an initial infection so it often takes longerfor after an initial infection so it often takes longer for the daily case figures to show up in the ons data but the survey is seen as a more reliable source of data because it is based on a random sample of swabs from households, including people who are asymptomatic, so it gives a bigger picture of what is going on rather than the daily figures which rely on people coming forward with symptoms. Now, weve also had the R Numberfor England and its fallen compared to last week. Comic. It is now not. 8 1. 1. To put that into context for every ten infected people youd expect to pass the virus on to between eight and 11 people. This data adds to the overall picture that the fall is real and is filtering into a fall in Hospital Admissions which at than 10 compared to the week before so the ons thinks that infections are likely to stay down the next few weeks but there is still distant certainty about what might happen going into the autumn and winter. Schools going back on the university is going back, you may see a mixture of covid 19 and possibly flu and other viruses in circulation and that could cause real challenges, still for the nhs. Some work is also being done on how infectious people who are double vaccinated out if they are carrying the Delta Variant . Yes, this is research being done by Public Health england. We know that two doses of vaccines of the Haifa Detection over 90 against Rabies Infection and dying from the virus was slightly reduced protection against dramatic disease so they are good but not 100 effective and even if you are double dad you can still catch the virus and it is the potential to pass it on. This research has suggested that if you are infected you could still have a similar level of virus in your body if you are Double Jab compared to somebody who is not vaccinated at all and they are trying to understand why that might be and what that might mean for transmission but one expert has said that those fully vaccinated are still less likely to be as infectious because vaccines help the body to suppress the virus and you have a shorter time when youre shedding the virus away shorter period of time when you might be passing it on but clearly this is an area where more research is needed but the suggestion is that two jabs are still very effective and still worth following up on the Offer. Doctors and dentists are much in demand, but there is tough competition for places at university. The numbers are capped by the government because of the cost of courses. But with more students this year expected to qualify after exams were replaced with teacher assessed grades, the government is asking universities to take on more students. Universities are not fully ready for the challenge, because they gave out their Offers for medical courses months ago, and now theres going to be huge Grade Inflation, probably, on tuesday, so theyre going to have far more students saying ive got a right to come to the course, than the university has places available. A degree in Medicine Cost around £180,000, so the numbers are capped by the government. In 2019, that meantjust over 8,300 students starting Medicine And Dentistry degrees in england. Last year, because of chaos caused by changes to how A Levels were graded, an extra 450 places were created. Now the government says in england, the cap will be lifted to more than 9,000 places and extra money will be found. Julia louw has secured a place at oxford and says after a tough year, its good news for students who want a career in medicine. Its really good news that the government is, you know, supporting Medicine Students and allowing lots of people to access those resources. Especially considering how hard its been to get those grades in the past year. But universities say its notjust about money they need time to prepare. This week, Exeter University has Offered £10,000 to persuade some medical students to defer. If there is an element of Grade Inflation, universities will work flexibly to make sure they are really working in the interest of students, but id also point to clearing. Clearing is increasingly attractive. Next week, students will find out their a level results, and with some courses oversubscribed, the pressure will shift to universities to find the places. Elaine dunkley, bbc news. Apple is to release new software that will scan its phones and other devices for images of Child Sex Abuse as theyre uploaded to online storage, and then report them to the police. It will also flag up explicit photos in its messaging app. But there are worries the technology could be expanded to Scan Phones for other content. Im joined now by Ross Anderson, professor of Security Engineering at the university of cambridge. Professor, welcome. What was not your view of this software . It is Ve Lad your view of this software . It 3 very glad downright bad news, i think the privacy and the industry as a whole. Apple used to be a proponent of privacy but now they seem to have gone over to the other side. New development means that firstly there will be some very creepy capabilities for parents to supervise what their children are doing and that will create all sorts of problems in the short run. In the long run, by creating mechanisms embedded in the phone for Surveillance And Censorship they are asking for all sorts of trouble because governments wont be happy to just do surveillance for Sex Abuse imagery, theyll be looking for surveillance of terrorist imagery, of, in china for example, for photos of a Man Standing in front of the tank. Every government has things that it wants to suppress an apple is creating the machinery to do that. Things can be put to bad uses, can the not . ~. , they not . Welcome indeed. But theres a really they not . Welcome indeed. But theres a really deep they not . Welcome indeed. But theres a really Deep Structurall theres a really deep structural shift happening here because up till now if you had any kind of pervasive Government Surveillance it was either specifically targeted at some particular purpose, such as, you know, Speed Cameras on the motorway will flash you if you go over 80 miles an hour, for example, or it was targeted on specific people, so that if the police have probable cause against you they could get a warrant to go through your stuff. What was not happening now is that they will be warrants for general search of billions of devices worldwide for specific leading digital things. Now, worldwide for specific leading digitalthings. Now, that worldwide for specific leading digital things. Now, that may start with Sex Abuse imagery, which everyone finds a province, and then terrorist material, over which, you know, there will be political debates between one country and another and very quickly we will find ourselves with tussles over, you know, censorship by Country And Censorship of political opponents and so on and so forth. But arent technology and so on and so forth. But arent technology companies and so on and so forth. But arent technology companies like and so on and so forth. But arent technology companies like apple | technology companies like apple caught between a rock and a hard place, though . Because there is this clamour for place, though . Because there is this clamourfor them place, though . Because there is this clamour for them to do place, though . Because there is this clamourfor them to do more, to crack down on images of child abuse, towelcome at the historical pattern is that governments talk about Pornography And Terrorism as the tip of the spear and then once theyve got their foot in the door they use their Surveillance And Censorship capabilities for other things. The first time that clients eye scanning, as it is called, was introduced was by the government of china in 2008 when it introduced something called the green dam. This was software that you had to install on every pc in china and this was sold as being about pornography and it did do some light Weight Pornography Scanning but what it really did was to go through peoples computers and look for any references to the Dalai Lama and Falun Gong and other things like that that the chinese State Government was confined about. Professor Ross Anderson from the university of cambridge, thank you very much for talking to us. Its long been feared that one of the most catastrophic results of Climate Change could be the collapse of the Gulf Stream the atlantic Ocean Circulation System that is responsible for mild temperatures in the uk and europe as it moves warm water from the tropics to the northern hemisphere. Now climate scientists have detected Warning Signs that it could be weakening. A Weather System which brings warm and mild conditions to europe is weakening and climate breakdown is the most likely cause according to a new climate study. It says the unprecedented changes to the large system Of Ocean currents known as amoc could result in more storms and colder winters in the British Isles and damaging heatwaves and droughts across europe. The Mens Team were inches away from gold but had to settle for silver. Cj ujah, zharnel hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell Blake, who was run down by the italian runner on the final leg. Asha philip, imani lansico, Dina Asher Smith and Daryll Neita led Team Gb to third, finishing behind winners jamaica and Silver Medallists usa. Also on the track, Laura Muir has won a silver in the womens1500 metres, setting a huge personal best in the process and breaking the british record too. Muirfinished behind kenyas faith kipyegon, who successfully defended her title in an olympic record time. But as the field stretched, muir went past the 5000 metres Champion Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands to seal the best result of her career. Two more golds on day 14 of tokyo 2020 have taken Team Gb up to fourth in the overall medals table. The first of the two was a historic one for Laura Kenny, who has become the most successful female british olympian. She and Katie Archibald were crowned the inaugral Womens Madison champions in the velodrome. Kenny is also the first british woman to win golds at three consecutive games and this one is her fifth overall. And there was another medal for Team Gb in the velodrome as Jack Carlin won an impressive bronze in the mens individual sprint, beating russian Denis Dmitriev for a spot on the podium to add to the silver he won in the team sprint. Kate french provided Gold Number18 forTeam Gb, continuing an excellent record in the modern pentathlon since the Womens Event was introduced in 2000. Several committed activists are now taking a whole new turn, organising online dating, house shares and blood banks just for the unvaccinated. But theyre coming up against opposition from Social Media sites. With me is our disinformation and social Media Reporter marianna spring. Explain a bit more about whats happening. Most people watching have probably heard about debates with Vaccine Pass pale arts and weighing up the Lock Downs with personal freedoms, but there is a movement that has grown over the course of the pandemic, opposing restrictions on vaccines and Vaccine Passports. Now thatis vaccines and Vaccine Passports. Now that is turning to something even greater than that. Its created enormous culture that is totally opposed to vaccinations. Not because of legitimate concerns and questions, but because they believe in a nefarious conspiracy. I met a member of the movement and awake apps and awake means awake to these apparent truths. Theyre friends of children who are taking their children who are taking their children out of school because they were worried about them being around vaccinated people or dont want them to be false to be vaccinated. They are setting up home schools and cabins in the woods. She is also a landlady and has been trying to rent out a room and has explained a bit to me about the process of awake renting. The awake housing one, the guy who started that, contacted me because he was trying to find somewhere to live in brighton and i came and met him. And it was such a good idea because if you are living in shared accommodation, the other people around you have the same views, it could become a constant sort of argument within the house. And it is notjust about arguments. Some of the people worried about living with vaccinated people. Including some of the tenants that michelle tried to get to move into one of her properties, there are concerns that people who have been jabbed can make them ill. It is totally unfounded because covid 19 vaccines dont use a live virus. There is no way you could get poorly from someone else having the jab. Nonetheless, that is inspiring this whole movement. In italy, anyone who wants to visit a range of venues, including restaurants, Sports Facilities and cultural sites, now have to produce a Green Card, showing a record of Covid Vaccination, a negative Test Or Proof of recovery from coronavirus. While Opinion Polls suggest a majority of people in the country are in favour, the rules have prompted protests too. Our italy Correspondent Mark Lowen reports from verona. A night at the opera. Tickets. Temperature check. And from today, the mandatory green pass a Covid Vaccination certificate, negative Test Or Proof of recovery as italy tightens its rules, from theatres to restaurants, gyms to cafes. Well, this is how it will work in practice. I come up to the venue in question. Buona sera. Present my green pass which, in my case, is a vaccination certificate. Its verified. This device doesnt save the data. I present my Id Card and im allowed to enter. Its a big change, and a big challenge, for those involved. Nobody told us how to face covid, you know . So at the beginning, we were afraid, we were nervous, we were anxious. Then, month by month, we solve new problem, giving new solution. And after 18 months, we built a little of self confidence. So lets say that now, the situation is, it is not a problem. This is another problem, regarding covid. Veronas arena has already adapted to covid fewer performers, masks and half ca pacity. But with the green pass, the drama has now moved offstage too. Parliament had to be suspended after protests from far right mps. And while polls show 70 of italians in favour, vocal demonstrations have broken out across the country. Much of the opposition is from restaurateurs, their patience already worn by lockdowns. Translation we shouldnt have to police this. Its not ourjob. And we shouldnt deal with sensitive data. The government will make us argue with customers who want to sit inside without a pass. Well have to comply, but weve already had cancellations. Its got nasty for medics supporting the green pass. Samantha grossi received a Death Threat through whatsapp, evoking the nazi trials at nuremberg. Other messages were on facebook, and they came from her colleagues. I felt broken and thought about giving up everything, but then i realised i must go on and show theyre the ones at fault. At the arena too, the show will go on, though with new checks for the opera lovers. Italy is beginning another act in its covid story, but the Unity Felt Last year is fading. Applause mark lowen, bbc news, verona. The government has defended the Minister Alok Sharma who has travelled abroad to more than 30 countries in his role as president of the climate summit, cop26. A spokesperson said face to Face Diplomacy was vital in Securing Key committments ahead of the meeting in glasgow later this year. Our political correspondentJonathan Blake has the latest. It is the sheer amount of Air Miles hes racked up in the course of that that has drawn criticism and raised eyebrows. As you say, more than 30 countries since taking on the role, and hasnt had to quarantine when returning those on the amber or Red List because Government Ministers are exempt from that rule if theyre travelling on official business. But labour and the Liberal Democrats say this is another example of one rule for Government Ministers and one rule for everybody else, and the greens say the travel has been excessive and hypocritical, hinting at the environmental impact of all this air travel. The government, though, defending his trips, saying that while virtual meetings play a large part, face to face meetings are crucial to achieving the governments Climate Change aims. And he hasnt exactly been doing this in secret, just yesterday tweeting pictures of his trip to brazil, which is of course on the Red List, talking about constructive meetings there. So, potentially embarrassing for the government, with some criticism coming their way. You have to have an expensive Quarantine Week at home. And yet Government Ministers fly around the world with abandon. The very Government Minister who is supposed to be encouraging us all to reduce Climate Change and our Carbon Footprint, and he is flying all around the world when he could just as easily do these meetings via virtual means. To fly to all this Red List countries and come back without quarantine, when we know that although we are all vaccinated, we are all warned that that does not make us immune. We can still carry it. To potentially bring back a new variant, which we understand they have in some of the countries he has been to, and bring them back into the country is completely and utterly irresponsible. It also sends the wrong message to people. It says the government can do what it likes, but you cant. It is not a case. Just because you can do something, does not mean you have to do. Thank you. The campaign on billboards and Social Media will focus on the freedoms that vaccinations allow from Nightclubbing To Foreign Travel. They have been some vaccines regarding safety but there have been other clinical trials. This is been for safety. Some people develop very mild Sale Side effects like Headache Or Body aches and might be generally unwell for a few days, but simple painkillers and rest and paracetamol will help you feel better. To sydney now and some amazing images of swimmers in the sea off Bondi Beach. What did they say about ignorance being bliss . Now, its time for a look at the weather. We are likely to close out friday as we began. So far, the heaviest of the rain has been further north but as we go through the evening hours and overnight, you can see widespread showers to begin with and then sharper showers develop across West Wales and moving up to the Essex And Kent coast as well. It stays relatively mild so ill start to begin with on saturday, but then we do it all again. Plenty of showers by living around that low, so spiralling out west and then drifting further east. Eastern areas seeing fewer showers but you wont be immune to them altogether. Top temperatures by Tomorrow Afternoon peaking at 20 celsius. Little in the way of change as we move into sunday. Our Weekend Headline is going to continue to be one of the sundry showers with some sunny spells. This is bbc news. The headlines. Good Afternoon And Welcome to bbc news. Its been a successful day for Team Gb in tokyo as the 14th day of the olympics draws to a close. The Cyclist Laura Kenny has become britains most decorated female olympic athlete, after she and Team Mate Katie archibald won the Womens Madison Event in the velodrome. The pair dominated the 120 lap race, winning 10 of the 12 sprints. It means kenny has won gold in three consecutive Olympic Games, and archibald in two. And Team Gbs18th Gold Medal of the games came from Kate French in the womens modern pentathlon. Also this afternoon, Laura Muir won silver in the 1500 metres. Team gbs men narrowly missed out on the gold in the 4x100 metres relay, beaten by italy in a photofinish. And the Womens Team came in third securing the bronze behind jamaica and the us. Elsewhere after their gold in rio, britains Hockey Women have taken bronze in tokyo, with a narrow victory over india. Heres Hugh Ferris with all the details the mens 4x100m Relay has, as you just said, delivered a Silver Medalfor Team Gb, who are just inches away from a famous gold. Cj ujah, zharnel hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell Blake, who was run down by the italian runner on the final leg. It wasnt marcelljacobs who won the individual gold earlier in the week. It was a silver by that much. Canada finished third. Meanwhile, Great Britain have won bronze in the womens 4x100 Metre Relay. Their time of 41. 88 seconds got them that medal. Asha philip, imani lansico, Dina Asher Smith and Daryll Neita led Team Gb to third, finishing behind winners jamaica and the Silver Medallists usa. Also on the track, Laura Muir has won a silver in the womens1500m. Setting a huge personal best in the process and breaking the british record too. Muirfinished behind kenyas faith kipyegon, who successfully defended her title in an olympic record time. But as the field stretched, muir went past the 5000m Champion Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands to seal the best result of her career. So, you mentioned the two golds. You know, i love the Team Pursuit but it was giving me fears like ive like ive never had before, whereas once that was out of the way, its almost hard to say but i felt relieved because the one race i really wanted to do was comeing and all of a sudden we went and did it and there was another medal for Team Gb in the velodrome as Jack Carlin won an impressive bronze in the mens individual sprint, beating russian Denis Dmitriev for a spot on the podium to add to the silver he won in the team sprint. So, then, Kate French provided Gold Number18 forTeam Gb, continuing an excellent record in the modern pentathlon since the Womens Event was introduced in 2000. She went into the third discipline pretty well placed, but a clear round in the Show Jumping took french up to fifth for the final two events, which are combined in a so called Laser Run. This is when the athletes run four 800m laps with Range Shooting in between. French made up the 15 second gap on the leader to become britains second womens modern Pentathlon Champion. Ijust knew i had to focus and i knew i could do it if ijust focused on my shooting and ran as hard as i could. The team were supporting and i could hear them in the crowd and obviously, everyone back home, i cant thank them enough for their support, and i honestly couldnt have done it without them. Just thank you so much, and thank you to National Lottery, as well. Great britain Captain Hollie Pearne webb saying its been a tough five years. Despite being the champions last time around, she said a Bronze Medal was beyond our wildest dreams. Martin, dont say i dont deliver because ive managed to do the research that you required of me. It is very easy to remember the moment because Great Britain are fourth place in the middle stable and it goes, 18, 19, 20, gold, silver or bronze. 18, 19, 20. Thats 57 in total. Dont ask me again because ill forget. To discuss all things athletics im nowjoined byjenny meadows, a world and European Medallist in the 800 metres who knows Team Gb and especially Laura Muir very well. Indeed, currently coaching is really hot since then. My goodness, what a couple of weeks it in view. Currently coaching keely hodgkinson. I did watch love the mere race that fantastic silver earlier and my heart was in my mouth. Talk as though what they meant to you. It was amazing and to actually say that Laura Muir is an olympic medallist, its been coming for a long, long time, the first global medal thats sheets were won, been in four world championships and posted a fall, two thirds and a fifth so this championshipjust mean thirds and a fifth so this championship just mean such a great thing for her and i am sure all fans of british athletics would have been having Tears Ofjoy for laura s Silver Medal. Weve had to feed that into the Price Cap, now, what the Price Cap does is it makes sure we dont go back to the bad old days where companies charged unfair profits on top of the amount that you pay, but, clearly, when input costs change that limit needs to change. The autumn is when we stick on our Heating And Electricity so much more, but its also a moment that furlough comes to an end and universal credit is being cut. Debt charities say this increase could not have come at a worse time and itll hit families who are struggling the most. We are faced with a bit of a conundrum, which is going to end up being food versus fuel, i believe how are the poorest of society going to be able to suck it up . You know, were already on the breadline, working on the closest balance of finance in a long, long time. With another two months to go until prices go up, theres still time to shop around for a better deal. Colletta smith, bbc news, in warrington. We are going to turn again now to coronavirus. Werejust we are going to turn again now to coronavirus. Were just hearing that the R Number in scotland has fallen below one for the first time made may sow some positive news coming out of scotland there. This is the R Number for the out of scotland there. This is the R Numberfor the period up to out of scotland there. This is the R Number for the period up to the 2nd Of August and it now stands between 0. 7 and 0. 9 so always positive news when it is below one so is falling below one back in scotland for the first time since mid may. That statisticjust first time since mid may. That statistic just through. Meanwhile, the latest official weekly figures for Coronavirus Infections in the uk have confirmed that the number of cases is falling. The office for national statistics estimates thatjust over 810,000 people had covid 19 last week 140,000 less than the previous seven days. Our Health Correspondent Katharine Da Costa told me that while the ons said its encouraged by this fall, they cautioned that Infection Rates remain high across the uk. They want to see more data to be confident that were past the peak of this current wave. Now, this data looks at the last week ofjuly, so its backward looking, and you can still test positive several weeks after an initial infection, so it often takes longer for the daily case figures to show up in the ons data, but the survey is seen as a more reliable source of data because its based on a random sample of swabs from households, including people who are asymptomatic, so it gives a bigger picture of whats going on rather than the daily figures that rely on people coming forward with symptoms. Now, weve also had the R Number for england, and its fallen compared to last week. Its now 0. 8 1. 1, so, to put that into context, for every 10 infected people, On Average theyd expect to pass the virus on to between 8 and 11 people. Now, these figures, this data, sort of, adds to the overall picture that the fall is real, and its filtering into a fall in Hospital Admissions, which are down 10 compared to the week before. So, ons thinks that infections are likely to stay down for the next few weeks, but there is still this uncertainty about what might happen going into the autumn and winter. Schools going back, universities going back, you may see a mixture of covid, possibly flu and other viruses in circulation that could cause real challenges, still, for the nhs. Thank you. Charlie Gallagher Bear in belfast. The Tech Giant Apple is bringing in new Safety Tools that it says can scan devices for images of child sexual abuse as theyre uploaded to online storage, so they can be reported to police. The new software which is being introduced first in the united states will search for matches of already known images. Some Security Experts however say the measures could be used by authoritarian governments to Scan Phones for other content such as political material. All this material has, for want of the better world is a fingerprint and it is that ability to be able to detect that fingerprint and other devices without actually having to go into the phone itself and actually be able to look at that phone so apple is trying to ensure the privacy of its clients by making sure it is not compromised by being able to detect these by elements of technology, Machine Intervention without the need to escalate at festivals which is about identifying known images but also through Technology And Machine learning being able to identify photos with a similar sort of footprint so that they can see whether it is the same sort of material and then what happens when they are, you know, convinced that material is actually on that device then locking that device and letting authorities or the parents of the Childrens Devices know that that material is on there. Childrens devices know that that material is on there. Right, so the Technology Material is on there. Right, so the technology is material is on there. That is some way down the road to the his Technology Intervention Festival so you are not delving into Peoples Privacy but the argument is that once you get in there, obviously, you have identified at 90 plus confidence that those images of on those devices then that is when the action will be kicked in and obviously this is happening in the states at the moment are not in the states at the moment are not in the uk. Which, obviously, one of the questions therefore is about apple being an american company, what will their authorities enforce on a us company that is operating within the united kingdom, so thats when it is talking about what impact that has on nation states and organisations intervening in areas of personal privacy in other countries of which are not under theirjurisdiction. White, and i suppose this is where it gets tricky this is where some people have genuine concerns. I dont know whether it is possible to find a balance between of desperately wanting to protect children and help children who are in dreadful circumstances versus individual privacy and, of course, picture issues of this is being done with the best of intentions to try to help children but there might be individuals or organisations who dont have good intentions. Absolutely, and first of all this is great technology and it is absolutely taking Responsibility And Accountability from tech giants to be able to reduce this level of Child Exploitation crime, so it is definitely once one which should be reported and apple are going about it in a really great way so visible they are doing a detection and looking at it on a local device of families of all doing its own human eye because when police are trawling through this material there is a lot of data and images to go through and also the impact seeing those images is on the stab have to go through though so there were so many Ways Technology is absolutely being used are the best but also when people think they are away from prying eyes it is really getting people to think, actually, no, people have the right to delving and look at and be able to identify if you are doing something inappropriate. Ithink able to identify if you are doing something inappropriate. I think we all want the best for our children and the communities we live and to make sure that this Thing Isnt happening and to be able to identify known images and where these images appear that need to be removed from the public domain. The issue stands when the ability in this Technology Field to scan devices and scan encrypted technology, for example. We know for example that whatsapp is encrypted but the ability to go in there and identify and find friends because what the technology is doing is identifying certain elements of these images through Machine Learning to be able to build up a picture to find out if their inappropriate images but if that technology could be used to see what other images we have and i habits and behaviours are, what our purchasing prices that could be used Tjy Purchasing prices that could be used by the large giant to help implement Consumer Behaviour and also influence physical things so the technology has a Mass Capability and says making sure that actually we are using it for what we want to do which is to eliminate crime and Child Exploitation and how do we actually protect and not have those images out in circulation. Images out in circulation. Right, this is all very images out in circulation. Right, this is all very interesting. Images out in circulation. Right, | this is all very interesting. There were somebody who runs a cyberSecurity Company would you say that right now the tests that add being done in the states at the right way forward, something that has to be tried if we as a society are going to be able to deal with online abuse . The intentions are good. It is then that question of what can apple do in the uk with uk data, how will that come about and lots of questions will be raised from that perspective but i think you know, you will struggle to find anybody in the industry who thinks that protection of a child and making sure if of removed removed from the internet is not a bad thing. Borisjohnson has been criticised by Nicola Sturgeon and Sir Keir Starmer after he said Margaret Thatcher gave the uk a big early start in the fight against Climate Change when she closed coal mines across the uk. Scotlands first minister said the remarks were crass and deeply insensitive while Sir Keir said they showed the Prime Minister was out of touch with working people. The Prime Ministers comments were a slap in the face for our coalfield communities, who are still suffering from the devastation of the pit closures, a programme inflicted upon them by thatcher. Those coalfield communities gave so much to our country and then they were abandoned by the tories, and the Prime Ministers comments show that the tories didnt care then and they dont care now. And yet again, the Prime Minister showed his true colours and just how how out of touch he is, and i think he needs to issue, immediately, an apology for what he said in relation to the coalfield communities. That was the labour leader Sir Keir Starmer with his reaction. Downing street said borisjohnson recognised the huge impact and pain caused by coal mines shutting and understands the suffering of former mining communities. East midlands todays political editor tony roe reports Margaret Thatchers decision to close pitts in 1994 led to the miners strike causing bitter division in communities, nowhere more so than in nottinghamshire. Closing mines had devastating economic consequences, too. The way the Prime Minister made his comments has irked opponents. Its the Prime Minister made his comments has irked opponents. So many of our communities round here were absolutely devastated by the closure of the mines. It was nothing to do with the environment but it was about ideology because we still burn coal locally, we could have invested money in green technologies instead. It was asked what it will take sensible tories to stand up to this buffoon. Other conservatives say, did the Prime Minister have a point . Because they say the dismantling of the domestic Coal Industry probably has hastened The Ending our reliance on it as a of fuel. Any ripple effects cause will be in the former coalfield seats and many of whom voted conservative for the first time in the last general election. A busy afternoon on bbc news. We will have the full weather prospects just at the top of the hour. Now lets turn our attention to sport. Good afternoon. Seven medals in totalfor Team Gb on day 14 in tokyo, with three coming within the space of a little over an hour in the olympic stadium. Both 4 by 100 metres Relay Teams got on the podium, with the Mens Team settling for silver after being inches away from gold. Cj ujah, zharnel hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell Bla ke, who was run down by the italian runner on the final leg. It wasnt marcelljacobs who won the individual gold earlier in the week, but filippo tortu. Canada came in third. We are olympic Silver Medallists and the last Olympics Medal Round we finished for it and we knew we were coming no less than a medal. We were out to when it this is a team and we were out to win it and we pulled it out to win a Silver Medal. In 20 minutes time when we are old and retired we will look back at this event is the best of our lives. It was bronze in the Womens Event. Muirfinished behind kenyas faith kipyegon, who successfully defended her title in an olympic record time, but as the field stretched, muir went past the 5000 metres Champion Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands to seal the best result of her career. The golds of the day came earlier, with Laura Kenny becoming the most successful female british olympian with the fifth of her career. She and Katie Archibald were crowned the inaugral Womens Madison champions in the velodrome. Kenny is also the first british woman to win golds at three consecutive games. The british pair dominated the 120 lap race, winning 10 of the 12 sprints on Offer to finish on 78 points. And out of all the Medals Kenny has won, this seems to mean the most. And there was another medal for Team Gb in the velodrome as Jack Carlin won an impressive bronze in the mens to the silver he won in the team sprint. Kate french provided Gold Number18 forTeam Gb, continuing an excellent record in the modern pentathlon since the Womens Event was introduced in 2000. She went into the third discipline well placed. But a clear round in the Show Jumping took french up to fifth for the final two events, which are combined in a so called Laser Run when the athletes run four 800 metre laps with Range Shooting in between. French made up the 15 second gap on the leader to become britains second womens modern Pentathlon Champion. It was bronze in the Womens Hockey for Team Gb, making the podium for the third games running, after beating india 4 3 in the Bronze Medal Match. It was a Topsy Turvy game the brits were 2 0 up, then 3 2 down, but fought back to win 4 3. Tears were flowing at The End. Great britain were defending champions from rio, but Captain Hollie Pearne webb said, its been a tough five years, a Bronze Medal was beyond our wildest dreams. Later, The Netherlands beat argentina to win gold. England are batting again in the first test against india at trent bridge, but they started their second innings 95 runs behind. India were bowled out for 278, Ollie Robinson with five wickets. And james andersons four included his 620th in test cricket, taking him third in the all time list. In their second innings, england have managed to avoid losing a wicket so far. Manchester City Manager Pep guardiola has confirmed his interest in Tottenham Striker Harry kane, but he says that Lionel Messi is not in our thoughts. The Premier League champions are keen to add kane to the squad after securing Jack Grealish for a british Record Fee of £100m from aston villa. Youve tottenham, if they dont want to negotiate, its finished. If they are open to negotiate, i think not. Of are open to negotiate, i think not. Of course all The Clubs in the world want to try to sign him. We are not an exception. He is an extraordinary striker. No doubt about that. Of course we are interested in him, but if it it is in tottenhams play. If they dont negotiate, nothing else to say. If they want to, we will try. Thats all the sport for now. The taliban have captured the capital of nimruz province, making it the first provincial capital to fall into the hands of insurgents, as they step up their offensive across the country. The nimruz province, in south western afghanistan is a major Trading Hub near the border with iran. A local official in zaranj said the city fell because of a lack of reinforcements. The insurgents have taken dozens of districts in recent months as foreign forces leave the country. The taliban are already putting pressure on several other cities, including herat in the West And Lashkar gah in the south. The un Security Council has been meeting in a special session to discuss the worsening situation in the country. The united nations envoy to afghanistan Deborah Lyon called on the taliban to cease its attacks on major cities immediately as she warned the conflict torn country was heading for catastrophe. There had been an expectation when the us taliban deal was signed in february 2020, you will remember, that we would see a reduction of violence. We did not. There had been an expectation when the talks between the afghan republic and the taliban began in september of last year that we would see a reduction of violence. We have not. There had been an expectation that when international troops left we would see a reduction of violence. We did not. Instead, despite significant concessions for peace, we have seen a 50 , 5 0 Percent Increase in civilian casualties with the certainty of many more as the cities are attacked. Im joined now by our North America Correspondent gary odonoghue. Such a sucha grim such a grim picture emerging from afghanistan. Given that western troops are pulling out, what can the un do . What does a special meeting of the un actually achieve . Well, its a good question. Its a demonstration i suppose of some kind of international unity around condemning what is happening in iran inside the country. That is not much consolation for people inside afghanistan, he was suffering at the hands of the taliban in their growing seizure of various provinces and districts around the country. It will be some sort of rallying call for some action, potentially putting more pressure on the taliban to come to the negotiating table. Those talks which have languished really and ohara over the last few months, not with any momentum behind them, particularly because the taliban have been having such success on the battlefield. There is little incentive for them. A lot of pressure being put on them in terms of their future and what kind of role they might have, and how recognised they might be in the international community. I think the issue there is how much they care about international recognition. It is not something they cared about in the past, but whether that has changed. There have been some disturbing developments reported in the meeting this morning, accusations here of real atrocities. One ambassador from afghanistan itself talking about people being stoned and having their hands chopped off, children flogged, he says. These are all allegations he levels that the taliban forces surrounding these six urban centres around the country. Of course the assassinations continue. We had another one this morning, the chief spokesman for the afghan government was assassinated at friday prayers, and that follows a pattern of other targeting that has been going on by the other insurgents. Thank you very much for now. Greece is facing a resurgence of wildfires, as strong winds have reignited fires thought to have been brought under control. Thousands of people were moved out of their homes overnight in several northern suburbs of athens. An extreme Fire Warning has been issued, and the countrys Prime Minister says its in the midst of an unprecedented environmental crisis. Mark lobel reports. As villages like these in the peloponnese burn, the greek Prime Ministers urging extreme caution. Houses can be rebuilt, he says, trees can re grow. However, human life cannot be replaced. But abandoning your home is never easy in your seventies. Translation leave and go where . And let my house burn . If we had left, this place would have burned. We told the women and elderly and kids to go, and whoever was able stayed to help, however they could. Westward winds have blown new life into these fires, north of athens. With temperatures well over 40 degrees centigrade, 100 degrees fahrenheit, the past weeks been greeces worst heatwave since the late 80s. With fires continuing to spread, local politicians have denounced a lack of resources. The army is doubling its efforts, but is our changing environment to blame . Climate change is producing hotter temperatures and making droughts more frequent conditions that can fuel wildfires. Translation we have a debt to shield the country against the reality of Climate Change. Im not looking for excuses. We have made important strides in organising the country, but these are not enough when youre faced with a phenomenon of such magnitude. Fires now spreading across southern europe, where many, including italians, spaniards, turks, albanians and north macedonians, are also asking just what is behind this Summer Heatwave thats causing familiar seasonaL Fires to act in such extreme ways . Mark lobel, bbc news. Here, the government is to introduce a Cancellation Insurance Scheme to try to protect live events, including Music Festivals and business conferences. The Edinburgh Festival fringe gets under Way Today and the city is preparing to welcome even more visitors as part of a month long showcase of festivals. Last year some of the events went online due to the pandemic. Julia amour the director of Festivals Edinburgh says it is fantastic to get back to live events and described last year as very odd. There are lots of photos online of the deserted royal mile and the scenes that people havent seen for 73 years because we started in 1947 as a kind of expression of hope after the second world war, so we really feel that coming back to life like this is another renewal moment. We are smaller of course. About 15 of the Offering that we were able to bring forward in 2019, and safety is absolutely paramount. We have been working with the national authorities and local authorities for the last six months and what measures we need to have in place in order to come back in a carefully managed way. There are some of the venues that people might be familiar with here. They will be coming back, the respected french they will be coming back, the respected fringe and international festival names, but we also have many outdoor venues that we have been supported by their local and national authorities to put forward as covid 19 safe options, so in the south and the west in the north of the city, there will be a more disposed Offering then before. And many of the well loved comedians for example are coming back with experimental runs of their new shows. We will have a focus on home grown work, very much this year, but our international connections remain strong, and people are working to bring in international soloists and conductors for example to keep that flame alive. Tour managers and hands now have to navigate brexit rules including visas, work permits and a Goods Passport known as a carnet as they try to book Festival And Tour dates across europe. The live Music Industry employs around 30,000 people in the uk, and it is estimated that 80 of the touring buses that operate across the uk and europe are based on british shores. Chi Chi Izundus has been catching up with british band tankus the henge after they documented their tour to france. Her report contains some flashing images. Cos i see lights outside the door. You may think about touring musicians, we play on stage every night, its great fun. Really, the playing is the easy part. Its 5 30, were in clacton, were just about to start picking up the band. Whats changed in terms of going on tour, Post Brexit . We used to be able to chuck all of our stuff in the van and just cross the Border And Head out, really, wherever we wanted. The biggest thing is called a carnet. That costs about £800, which is a big chunk of a performance for us. All our equipment has to be on a list, and if you bring something that isnt on the list, then you get fined, and vice versa. But we dont know if theyre going to take anything out of the van or not. And then, instead ofjust going through the normal passport checks and crossing the border, we have to go to an additional place. Just been into the carnet office, were not allowed to film inside. We asked two of the staff members if theyd had any bands through, they said, no, we were the first. Then we have to do that again on the french side. Theyve given us this red thing. Exit . Before we can even think about setting off to a first gig. But we dont know if weve got to do the french part of the carnet now or when we actually get to the france, because this is the french border here in the uk. Its pretty incredible weve got to this point. The whole things been a big puzzle. We had a proper investigation at the french border, they checked every single thing, they asked if we had been vaccinated. France is easy because theres no visa requirement. Other countries, we would have to log exactly where were going and why. Were out of the tunnel now, were in france, and weve got to take our carnet document, the big document, got to get it stamped as soon as you arrive. And really, its playing in the eu which allows us to play our uk gigs. Because theres 500 Million people in the eu and thats a massive market for music, and its a big export for british music. A Band Cant survive simply playing in the uk. What about your merchandise, have you managed to take some of that with you . Unfortunately not. We have to be vat registered. Thatjust means we have higher accountancy fees, theres more paperwork, pushes up the price of all our products. All these things help keep musicians on the road and paid. And because the margins are so narrow anyway, they really help us survive. So, because of the added costs, we havent been able to take any with us. This is what we do, basically, every day, move these things around, take them to pieces, put them back together again, make loads of noise. We arejoining the campaign for a cultural passport. There has to be a system where this represents us. And we also need people in the eu to be aware of this Campaign And Support it from the eu side. And Thats Something weve been talking to people about while weve been here, and theyve been receptive, and they dont know about it. So, we need a cultural passport for musicians. I knew their name and all about them and i would just like to apologise to them for being very slightly rude. Im sure theyre brilliant and i am going straight and spot fires soon as we are are fair to educate myself. Before we take a look at the weather prospects. To sydney now and some amazing images of swimmers in the sea off Bondi Beach. As time went on, my perception changed from the sharks, especially with the grey nurse. Hey, alex. Norman, the grey nurse shark. Now its time for a look at the weather with louise lear. Hello. Im sorry but the weather remains the same. We are stuck on repeat mode. The picture behind tells the story quite perfectly. Sunny spells and thundery downpours. Not only for the rest of the day but through the weekend as well. Through the rain, the sharpest of the showers are to be to the north, particularly through aberdeenshire, where we see some relentless rain trickling its way westwards. Downpours moving their way across northern ireland, north wales and North West England as we speak. The rest of the dry Lip Weather will be further south.
