Hello and welcome. A sprinter from belarus who refused her Teams Order to fly home early from the olympics has been granted a humanitarian visa by poland. Krystina tsimanouskaya is at the Polish Embassy In Tokyo, and its believed she plans to Go to warsaw on wednesday. The athlete says she was forcibly taken to the airport for criticising coaches, but belarus says she was removed from the team because of her emotional state. Mark adams from the International Olympic Committee has just spoken about the incident at a press briefing. We spoke yesterday twice to Krystina Tsimanouskaya, we spoke to her twice, she reassured us once again she is feeling safe and secure, i believe there is a call Going on this morning with her as well, and together with the relevant authorities and competent organisations, she is planning herfuture. We are also in contact with the unhcr, our partner, which is helping out, we were in contact with them right from the get Go, on the evening of, as i was mentioned yesterday, we were there on the night of the incident. She is in a safe and secure place, we have contacted the noc of poland, if you have been following the story, and in terms of what the ioc can do for her in terms of her future, we have talked to them with regard to her sport after her arrival in warsaw, if that is where she does indeed choose to end up. So in terms of her safety and security, i think we have dealt with most of the issues thaT Needed to be dealt with. As i said yesterday, we are expecting and have asked for a report from the noc today, we requested that yesterday, we want it today, we have decided to launch, not surprisingly, a formal investigation which will be led by the Ioc Administration and we need to establish the full facts, we need to hear everyone involved. That obviously can take time, and in the meantime obviously our first concern is for the athlete. Mariko oi is In Tokyo with more onjapanese reaction to this story. As far the Bull Belarusian athlete, i though it was interesting that some people here have been comparing how she has been chewed compared to the ugandan athlete who tried to run away earlier in the games. Of course it is not as simple as their Skin Colour is for someone tried to just run away from his Hotel Room, the other sought help through an official channel, through the ioc. But others speculate whether the fowchee sought asylum outside of japan may have contributed to the way she was treated here because japan does noT Grant Asylum to many people, including any athletes. And well return to tokyo later in the programme with more on the Gold won by Team Gb in the Mens A9er Class that has happened in the last couple of minutes and also the extraordinary achievement of Norways Karsten Warholm who won Gold with a new World Record time in the mens 400 metres hurdles. The authorities in the central chinese city of wuhan, where coronavirus first surfaced in 2019, have said its entire population of 11 Million people will be tested for covid i9. The announcement comes a day after the city reported seven cases of the highly transmissible Delta Variant. China is now battling to contain its largest Covid Outbreak in months with Mass Testing and travel curbs. More than 300 cases have been detected over ten days across 15 provinces. Lets cross to beijing now, where our China Correspondent Stephen Mcdonell is monitoring the situation. What more can you tell us . People here had been what more can you tell us . People here had been used what more can you tell us . People here had been used to what more can you tell us . People here had been used to life what more can you tell us . People here had been used to life without| here had been used to life without The Coronavirus, to tell the truth, in recent months. In wuhan, the city that had the first lockdown, it has been a year since any coronavirus cases had emerged. Well, that is all changing very quickly now with an outbreak of the table to variant. The numbers are not that big, Big New numbers, less than 100, but it is the spread across the Country Thatis is the spread across the country that is worrying officials and so very strict measures are being taken to bring it under control, because here, even though there is a widespread roll out of the vaccine, several vaccines, already under way, lots of people have already been vaccinated, we are told more than A Billion doses have been given out, but the country here, the officials are adopting a zero k strategy, meaning complete elimination is the target again. So transport links to cities are being cut, trains from high Risk Areas are not allowed to come to beijing, several roads have been closed all over the country, people are being told to avoid nonessential travel. People are being told to avoid nonessentialtravel. If people are being told to avoid nonessential travel. If we Go to wuhan, the city of 11 Million people that had the first cases, the first lockdown, that whole city is Going to be tested and that is with six or seven cases so far. Obviously there is a lot of concern, people will be very worried, they had a very strict lockdown there for a long time to eliminate covid from the city, and while officials are telling residents of wuhan are not to panic, they are also saying dont believe wuhan, and infact they are also saying dont believe wuhan, and in fact the entire province of hubli, people are being told not to leave the province if you can possibly avoid it. And with the more people travelling, that more it spreads, because infections have occurred in what were low Risk Areas, especially in Tourist Areas and so the feeling is if you tell people dont travel, dont Go out these tourist sites, they can bring this under control again. But a very fast moving outbreak at the moment here in china. Fastmoving outbreak at the moment here in china here in china. Thank you. For the latest. The Travel Industry in the uk has welcomed the Governments-decision'>Governments Decision to abandon plans for a further change to its Traffic Light System for International Travel. It had been considering an Amber Watch List of Countries at risk of being put onto the Red List, which requires Hotel Quarantine on return to the uk. Simonjones reports. Getting away from it all, but safely. The british Government, Like administrations Around The World, has been grappling with how to allow International Travel in an age of covid. People want to Go abroad, i understand how much people plan, prepare for the summer holidays, but weve also Got to remember that this is still a dangerous virus and that we must try and stop variants coming in and must stop Importing Variants from abroad, so we have to have a balanced approach. On monday, britain opened its borders to people from the us and most of the Eu Whove been fully vaccinated, but further changes are also being looked at. The Government has been using a Traffic Light System for travel. People can visit a green country. When they return, they need to take a Covid Test before departure, and another tent once theyre back. On returning from an amber country, people who are fully vaccinated donT Need to isolate. But entering the uk from a red country will involve quarantining in a hotel for ten days. The Government had been considering an Amber Watchlist, flagging up Countries at risk of moving to red. But thats now been abandoned, following opposition from some mps. A decision welcomed by the Travel Industry. We already have a hugely complex system, a Traffic Light System that Governs International Travel and i think most people are struggling to keep up with those changes and to hear that we were about to have another layer of complexity added to that, i think was concerning for people. Whenever those rules change, it impacts peoples plans and it dents peoples confidence. So the fact that the system is Going to stay the same i think is welcome news. But the Opposition Labour Party has accused the Government of being in total chaos over its border policy, saying the Travel Industry needs maximum clarity, not U Turns and confusion. Simon jones, Bbc News. And we will have more on that in our business coverage. The rapper known as Dizzee Rascal has been charged with assault, following an incident in south london. The 36 year old, whose real name is dylan mills, was charged after Police Officers visited an address in streatham on 8thjune. They said a woman at the property had suffered minor injuries, but did noT Need hospital treatment, police said. Mr mills is due to appear at croydon magistrates court on 3rd september. Stay with us on Bbc News. Still to come its considered one of the hardest Gold-medal'>Gold Medals to win. We meet the australian teenager competing in the new olympic discipline of Sport Climbing. This is Bbc News. An olympic sprinter from belarus who was ordered home has been granted a humanitarian visa by poland and is due to fly to warsaw on wednesday. The International Olympic Committee announced an investigation. Norways Karsten Warholm beats his own World Record to win Gold in the mens 400 metre hurdles. Got some Breaking News from the olympics for you and its particularly Good news for Team Gb and their Sailing Team. They have taken Gold in the Mens 49er class the first time they have won the Gold in history. Dylan Fletcher And Stuart bithall were the victorius pair. They pipped the german pair to the Gold by the tiniest of margins New Zealand have taken the bronze. Well lets Take A Look at the olympic Sporting Action now a little earlier i was joined by Sarah Mulkerrins In Tokyo. I havent completely caught my breath from the action that we have seen in the last hour. A remarkable performance on the track in one of the finals, the 400 metres hurdles finalfor men. It had been hotly anticipated because we had Norways Karsten Warholm Going in this. He was the World Record holder after last year breaking a World Record that had stood for 29 years, and he pulled out one of the most phenomenal performances in Track And Field and indeed sport in the last hour because he won in a World Record of 45. 94 seconds. You can see the shock on his face. He ripped open his shirt after he crossed the line, his previous record was almost a second slower. Rai benjamin, the american, who finished in second, also broke that previous World Record mark. It was just a phenomenal performance from an athlete who has promised so much over the years. Hes a double World Champion, he has now broken his own World Record by nearly a second and, well, he has that olympic Gold-medal'>Gold Medal to Go along with it. This track here that we have been seeing In Tokyo, they call it potentially the trampoline, the maker calls it a trampoline. Its produced some very fast times, we have seen national records being broken as well, and also one interesting point as well is there is new technology and the shoes, in the spikes that they are wearing that helps propel them forward. So it is interesting to see what sort of impact that may be having. But for Karsten Warholm, that was just a super performance from him. No doubt it will take all the headlines Around The World. There was also one other medal awarded in that early session in the Track And Field and that was in the womens long jump, with Malaika Mihambo of germany taking Gold in that one. She was the only one of those long jumpers to jump past seven metres, for her, late on in that competition. The american Brittney Reese had been in the lead, but she had to settle for second. And then Ese Brume of nigeria won the bronze, and that is nigerias first Athletics Medal since 2008, so just remarkable scenes, really, at the Track And Field stadium this morning here In Tokyo. Lets Take A Look at the updated Medal Table then and see how it stands. United states has the most overall medals, with 66 all up. But it is china that has more Gold-medal'>Gold Medals, a whopping 29 for them there. Plenty of time still to come for all the nations to win some more medals, particularly today, 22 more up for grabs. So lets have a look at what else day 11 has in store for us. Were Going to have more action in the Evening Session in the athletics, the womens 200 metres final. Athletics, the womens well also have the womens 800 metres final there, the 100 metres champion, Elaine Thompson Herah from jamaica, Going for the double. She No Doubt will be pushed on by shelly ann fraser pryce, also ofjamaica Going in that. Were also Going to have the first boxing medals handed out today with the mens Welterweight Division and also the Womens Featherweight Coming Up. Then in the velodrome for cycling, it could be a Good day for britains Golden couple, Laura And Jason kenny. They are both competing. Laura won the Team Pursuit at two olympics in a row and Jason Kenny has won the Team Sprint at every games since beijing in 2008. Another event makes its olympic debut in Sport Climbing, which promises to be one of the toughest Gold-medal'>Gold Medals to win In Tokyo. You have to take part in three events in that. And of course gymnastics fans Around The World will be very pleased to see americas star gymnast, Simone Biles, returning to action. She is Going to be taking part in the beam final. Remember she had missed some of the events here, saying she needed to prioritise her Mental Health. Plenty of action to come, sally, but i think everybody who has been watching the olympics and particularly interested in the Track And Field are Going to take a little bit of time to just process that World Record We Saw, the phenomenal performance from Norways Karsten Warholm certainly will Go down as one of the biggest performances here at these olympic games. The population of chimpanzees has been disappearing fast on the african continent, largely due to deforestation. Sierra leone is the first country to declare the primate a national animal, as it tries to reverse the trend. Umaru fofana has been to one of the continents largest chimpanzee sanctuaries, just outside the capital freetown. The race against extinction. Baby chimps left motherless by poachers. If they are lucky, Like celia is, they are rescued and brought to this sanctuary. This woman, who has grandchildren of her own, carries out the task of a chimp mother. She says, as a grandmother, it breaks her heart to see what the Baby Chimps have to Go through. Translation i take care of orphaned chimps whose parents have been killed in the wild. I Like working with animals, Like celia who came here when she was two months old. Toothless, she couldnt even sit by herself. Since then, i have been taking care of her. Now she is growing teeth and can sit by herself, Crawl And Walk and has now Got to this stage. When they grow older and stronger and can move on their own, they learn how to jump within this Perimeter Fence before they are released to join the 100 others that now call this place their home. They are part of an estimated Nationwide Chimp Population of around 6000, believed to have Gone down fivefolds from 30 years aGo. That dwindling number is in part due to the disappearing Forest Cover across the country. To reverse the trend, this man who founded Tacugama Chimp Sanctuary 26 years aGo, has embarked On A Mission. International union for conservation and nature, they announced two years aGo that the western chimpanzee, the subspecies we have in Sierra Leone, is extremely threatened and endangered. And that means these chimps could disappear in our lifetime, you are talking about the next 20, 30 years. And Sierra Leone has a significant population, between Sierra Leone, guinea and liberia, probably we have about 70, 75 of this western chimpanzee. So if we dont address this issue as these three nations, i think we have all the chance of watching them disappear right before our eyes. There has been no Nationalforest Inventory in Sierra Leone for more than 40 years, but some estimate about a quarter of the rainforest here is Gone. Campaigners are concerned that the Rain Cover is dwindling alarmingly fast. One of the surviving areas is here at this chimp sanctuary. Right. Good, you made it. So, you can see what has been protected, what has been preserved. This is 26 years of work, to make sure that nothing is damaged in this area. This canopy at the sanctuary is one to behold. Not a common sight these days on the freetown peninsula. If urgent measures are not taken, this place will cease being home for these primates. With a combination of lead climbing, Speed Climbing and bouldering, the new Olympic Sport of Sport Climbing will be one of the toughest Gold-medal'>Gold Medals to win In Tokyo. Australian teenager Oceana Mackenzie will be challenging the worlds best at the aomi sports park, as the sport aims to gain millions more fans Around The World. Im Oceana Mackenzie, i do Sport Climbing and im from australia. So, i started when i was about eight, and, yeah, my mum, she actually took my sisters to our local climbing gym, but i would Go with them and hang out at the gym and start traversing around the walls. And, yeah, i pretty muchjust loved it straightaway. Climbing has this great challenge where youre actually trying to find a way to get up the climb. I loved having that challenge of trying to figure it out and challenge my mind as well as my body. The Good thing about climbing is its always really great to find your own way because you have a special kind of way of doing things. I never expected climbing to be in the olympics, so when it was first decided, i was Like, oh, thats amazing. It can be really great for the sport and then when we realised that i could potentially qualify, it was Like, whoa, i can actually Go to the olympics, and it happened. And, yeah, super excited. For the olympics, you do speed, bouldering and then lead. Speed climbing, just to get up the wall as fast as you can. Bouldering, which is a short wall, so theres multiple boulders, and you have to complete the most you can. Lead climbing, which is Like 17 metre walls, and thats whoever gets the highest point on the climb. Its a lot to train your mind as well as your physical body. Like, its a big part of competition climbing. Theres never an end to it, i guess with a lot of sports, but you can never really be the best because theres always Going to be a harder climb that you cant do, which is really cool. Like, youre always having to keep Going, which is really special. And while the games In Tokyo are reserved for athletes at the pinnacle of their sport, one couple from oxfordshire in england are aiming for a Gold for effort, if not achievement. Theyre trying to complete every one of the 96 events in 17 days most of which theyve never tried before. Andrew plant has the story. Go theyve Gone from cycling to synchronised swimming, tried their hands at taekwondo. In fact, theyre not missing out a single Olympic Sport. It was trampolining today, then triathlon tomorrow. Their olympic timetable has almost 50 sports, most of which, theyve never even tried until now. Whats been the hardest one for you so far . This and bouncing with a back Injury Isnt helping. Have you ever been on a trampoline before . This is my second time ever, and im pretty confident to say it will be my second and last. So, we absolutely hated the 50k walk. It was really hard. And i did not Like the windsurfing because i have a massive Fish Phobia and it was on a fishing lake, and it was alljust very traumatic. And ive absolutely loved trampolining, that was brilliant, loved the rowing. There are so many things that have been great fun. Its all in the race for donations for the Motor Neurone Disease association. The charity which supported Stuarts Brother spencer, who passed away from the illness. He was 49, he had two boys who were four and seven who he loved unconditionally, as all dads do. He wanted his legacy to be that we would keep raising money and awareness, and we will do that. 60 events down. Still more than 30 to Go. Tomorrow, theyll also take on the 100 metres. Aiming for a time under 20 seconds. Congratulations. Thank you. So, no World Records being broken, but theyve already won the Gold'>Silver And Gold for effort. Andrew plant, Bbc News. This me, what a fantastic geo and may they raise lots of money. Thank you for your company. I am not Going anywhere, i will be back in a few minutes. Good morning. The weather remains unsettled, we are looking at sunshine and showers later on in the week, we will have rain and who will turn a bit windier. Today, sunny spells and some scattered showers, shower slow moving, heavy infantry in places. This lump of cloud as yesterdays showers, we had slow moving ones then all and through the course of the night, a new system arrives in the South West bringing in some rain, the isles of Scilly And West Carnival Today we will see it extend down towards the Channel Islands, and as it moves away to leave a lot of cloud in its wake. Forthe away to leave a lot of cloud in its wake. For the rest of the uk, there is a fair bit of sunshine but dont forget that slow moving heavy and thundery showers, but if you are out of them in light breezes, it will feel quite pleasant. You can see the system waiting here, a Weather Front that by The End of the night will bring rain into Western Scotland and also into Northern Ireland stop where we have had the showers by day, we could see some Mist And Fog at night and these are overnight lows, looking at about ten up to 14 degrees. Tomorrow, here is the Weather Front coming in across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland, it will be slowly pushing that a little bit further East And Weakening as it does so for began a lot of dry weather to start the day, many seeing sunshine, any early morning Mist And Fog lifting quite quickly but then we have a showers developing once again. Not much of a breeze to move them along for most, so they will be slow moving, heavy and thundery if you catch one, but temperatures up a touch on the day and more Likely to catch one in the north of England Tomorrow than today. Thursday, looks quite messy as the low pressure comes in and you can see the squeeze across the South West and wales. Here there will be quite Gusty Winds, gusting up will be quite Gusty Winds, gusting up to 40 mph. For some eastern areas, it could stay dry although the Cloud Will Build, as the rain moves in from the west, continuing its journey moving towards the east. Here are our temperatures. It is filling that little bit cooler, especially if you are in the wind and rain. The outlook beyond that, it does remain unsettled, again sunshine and showers, but hints later in the month of something a bit drier and warmer. This is Bbc News. Our top stories. Black Gold-oil-giant'>Gold Oil Giant bp reports second quarter earnings. We find out how much rising Oil Prices have boosted its bottom line. And in a week with many of the car giants reporting, we look at the outlook for the global auto industry. And, the next frontier. Make up for men. Its a growth sector. Its a busy time for earnings and the Oil Giant Bp will be revealing its latest results in half an hour. Oil prices hit their highest level in almost two years during the second Quarter And Refining margins have also improved significantly, so analysts are expecting solid profits this time from bp. But they will also be listening out for more news on Bps Transformation from a company that makes vast amounts of money from Fossil Fuels to an integrated energy company, focusing on low carbon energy. Bp has committed to becoming a net zero company by 2050. Nitesh shah is director of research at wisdomtree. He told me he expects excellent numbers from bp yes, i think strong Oil Prices have risen more than 70 in the past year. Natural gas prices in europe are at all time highs. That has been very kind to bp and will have boosted its revenues and also its Refining Margins as well. So its not only its upstream business, the pulling of oil out of the ground that has benefited, but also the downstream stuff, turning the oil into products and selling them will also have an affected in this environment. So we are expecting some strong results from bp, alongside the other international world companies that have already announced results this week. And thats very welcome, isnt it . Its had a Roller Coaster few years. We all remember when the pandemic first kicked in. Oil prices sunk significantly as global demand just fell off a cliff. Lets now talk about future for bp because of course its Got a huge transformation ahead of it. So what will we hear about that . Yes, so bp, amongst the Big International Oil Companies have probably been the most progressive in terms of announcing its transition plan. Last year they mentioned that they want to be net neutral in terms of emissions by 2050. So far, if you look at all the international oil companies that have been selling lots of assets over the last five years, disposing of old Oil Type of assets, the pace at which they had been buying new assets to transition into the new world of renewables has been quite slow. Bp has made a few purchases over the past year, in the wind, solar areas, but the key time is now. How much are they Going to buy assets Going forward . If you look at what other international oil companies have been doing Like theyve been announcing share Buy Backs and increased dividends, throwing money back at the investors, and shrinking down their businesses. How will that be consistent with expanding the business into this new renewable environment that we are Going to be seen over the next few years . Thats a key question. The results are expected in 30 minutes and we will update you when they come in. Now to travel, and a proposal to create an Amber Watch List of Countries at risk of moving to red in the uks travel Traffic Light System has been abandoned a Government-source'>Government Source has told the bbc. It comes after the Prime Minister said he wanted a simple and balanced approach to pandemic travel. Mps and Travel Industry figures have been warning a complex system risked putting people off from travelling and this comes just days before the Government reviews which Countries are on which list. Fiona cincotta is the senior Market Analyst at city inde. She says this U Turn over the Amber Watchlist is a positive move. This is Going to be really important for the Travel Industry. Lets not forget the Travel Industry has been one of the hardest hit across the pandemic because weve had restrictions on flights and Travel And Tourism for the best part of the year and a Half And Weve seen that the results of Travel And Tourism companies, for example we had british Airways Owner Iag just at The End of last week, they reported a 2 Billion Euros Loss so far this year. They were flying at capacity of just 20 of 2019. So thats a really small capacity that they were flying at. Thats because of restrictions, quarantines, nerves over travel. A more complex system as far as the travel Traffic Light System was concerned would have hit these companies even harder and it would have kept people from sort of booking holidays. We do still have some of the summer left. There is still some optimism that with a really clear system in place that we might still get a soaring in bookings towards The End of the summer. If the Government is clear and people feel relaxed they will be able to Go away on holiday and not come back to different restrictions and different quarantine measures. This would be Good news for the Travel Industry if the Government can keep this really simple. That is the question, if it can or cannot keep things simple. With france, for example, and travel being restricted in terms of Uk Holiday makers in france coming back, the rules changing, etc, etc. Despite the Amber Watchlist being taken away, many might still be very, very nervous about Going overseas. Thats right. Thats why many will be looking to the Government for really clear guidelines and clarification. Even if they get that, i think there is still this level of Distrust And Uncertainty which could well put people off until next year. The Travel Industry will be looking for a Pick Up at The End of this summer. They really need that. As i said, results coming through from the airlines, for example, have not been encouraging. These really are a sort of hanging in there as far as the financials are concerned. They do need this big Pick Up. Everyone will be looking very closely at what the Government says on thursday as to whether we can get more clarity. Australian Airline Qantas is standing down some 2,500 staff for at least two months, as Air Travel Numbers Slump due to lockdowns. Nick marsh has been following the story from our Asia Business Hub in singapore. These staff are many domestic pilots, Cabin Crew, airport workers. They are Going to be stood down or furloughed. They will not lose their jobs but for the next two months they will not receive a wage from qantas when they will have to ply for various Government-support'>Government Support schemes instead. That is a bit controversial in australia because it was only yesterday the Government said it would be providing 100 Million to allies to help them get through the latest lock downs. Now you had critics and union saying qantas has jumped you had critics and union saying qantas hasjumped on this you had critics and union saying qantas has jumped on this workers are being consigned to a lower wage through no fault of their own. It is true it is a terrible time to be an Airline Carrier in australia right now. Forthe Airline Carrier in australia right now. For the past 18 months also, International Travel has been more or less banned, really banned, it is really hard to get in or out of australia now. Qantas has been posting some really big losses, 1. 5 billion this year, 2 Billion last year. The only way they were managing to survive up until now was the Brief And Travel bubble with New Zealand and Domestic Travel. Now you have the latest lockdown is and both of these things have basically Gone. It has hit the qantas Share Price, it has Gone down by 8 for that they have received a lot of money from the australian Government, about 2 Billion so far. It is Going to be really hard to see a way out of this because the Delta Variant Continues to spread, cities Continue to lockdown, and only 15 of people in australia are vaccinated right now. Who knows when International Travel will resume . The Chief Executive of qantas says there will be a big rebound when it happens but it will be a long way away and it will have to be a big rebound. Lets get some of the days other news. Business leaders have welcomed the changes made to the Nhs Track and Trace App so that fewer contacts will be advised to self isolate following a close contact with a positive case. The app will look for contacts two days prior, rather than five, when someone without symptoms tests positive. Twitter will collaborate with two of the largest international news providers, reuters and the associated press, to debunk disinformation on its messaging site. This is Bbc News, the latest headlines. An olympic sprinter from belarus, who was ordered home has been granted a humanitarian visa by poland and is due to fly to warsaw on wednesday. The International Olympic Committee announced an investigation. Norways Karsten Warholm beats his own World Record to win Gold in the mens 400 metre hurdles. There are a slew of Car Companies reporting their results this week. Stellantis its brands include fiat, Chrysler And Peugeot is reporting today, as is bmw. Then weve Got general motors, Toyota And Honda on wednesday. So we should get a real sense of how the Car Making Sector is doing as we start to exit the pandemic. Jim holder is the Editorial Director at What Car . And autocar. He explained who will be the stand out. You are probably looking to the premium brands, brands Like bmw, for the really standout figures, but i think overall were seeing a positive trend despite the massive headwinds they have been facing into. Obviously theyve had 18 months to forget and the Chip Crisis is really another blow in the perfect storm. They seem to be managing stock incredibly well, running down the cars they are building and being able to build because of this chip shortage, theyre focusing on high Profit Margin vehicles. So the underlying trend is positive but it seems to be premium makers, or vehicle makers with a presence in china where the market is particularly strong that theyre doing best of all. So which Car Companies are doing best in china . I notice stellantis, for example, is not doing so well there. Yes, they have had a bit of a long Term Problem where sales have collapsed. Its definitely on their agenda to try and re establish a footprint in china. If you look at some of the bigger brands, were talking volkswagen, a lot of the japanese makers, toyota, honda, they all have a strong presence on there. Toyota in particular is having a very strong year against its rival volkswagen. They are typically vying to be the biggest Car Maker by volume. Toyota has pulled ahead, notjust because of china but because of a global strength, whereas volkswagen has stuttered a little bit by its very own high standards because of the chip shortage. Both are recording strong figures. Lets talk about electrification because many Governments, including the uk, have set quite tricky targets when it comes elimination of sales of new Petrol And Diesel cars. Absolutely. They are all facing into this massive period of change. Stellantis a couple of weeks aGo announced it was investing 30 Billion between now and 2025 to Go on this journey and get itself to a point where it believes it can be competitive. That money has been spent on five battery plants that iT Needs to build in order to be able to power its cars in future insta nces. Moving its brands progressively between now and 2030 to be fully electric brands, including opel and vauxhall. You start to understand the scale of challenges they are facing. Of course it is not just about in cars, building cars, they need the Government to support them on thatjourney, to put the infrastructure in place so that when people buy the cars they can actually use them properly and so on. So there is a huge societal shift as well as a carmaking one under way. Things are getting more expensive. Inflation, Shipping Lag times and a shortage of raw materials has been pushing the price of food, Travel And Transportation higher. But one sector that hasnt passed it onto the consumer is alcohol, even though their costs have been Going up. But that may not last for long as Samira Hussain reports. New York City and its economy are Going back to life. People are out eating and drinking. Alcohol sales hit record levels during the pandemic. My drinking increased by 50 , easily. By about 25 to 125 . Probably maybe an increase of 10 to 30 . I used to drink Like two or three nights a week and now im probably drinking five, six nights a week. They may be in for a sober reality. Those beverages have become much more expensive to make. For over half a century, this family has been a vineyard on long island, two hours outside new York City. Thousands of Vines Dot the 500 acre property. The vineyard does not use pesticides, which means the grapes are tended to by Hand But Labour shortages have forced the winery to spend more on the staff they do have in overtime pay. The price of glass is up 6 , Shipping Costs have skyrocketed and delays in getting labels have meant longer lifetimes lag times in getting the product to market. All of this means a bottle of wine has become much more costly to make and it is a cost that many wine producers just have to swallow. So the industry as a whole does not take to the Price Increase and fluctuation and also the Consumer Expectation would not be ready, would not be kind of excited about a Price Increase because there are Labour Shortages or things Like that. Other industries that have high Consumer Demand and increasing Production Costs will often pass that onto the consumer. Wine is not one of them. Small Family Run vineyards have to get creative, finding other revenue streams. It is notjust wineries that are feeling financial pressure. Breweries are also facing steep Price Hikes from hops, to cardboard, to even the aluminium used to make cans. This Brewery Hasnt had to raise their prices but that luxury may not last. fist their prices but that luxury may not last. . ,. , last. At the moment we have held it off but at a last. Too many factors building up which may mean we had to pass some of that on to the consumer. It is more Likely the cost increases are temporary and that prices will Go back to normal eventually. If they do not the strong recovery may lead to a financial hanGover for new yorks drinkers. The male Make Up industry is a trend already firmly established in South Korea and its spreading west. An olympic sprinter from belarus who was ordered home is granted a humanitarian visa by poland and is due to fly to warsaw on wednesday. China is trying to contain its largest Covid Outbreak in months the entire city of wuhan 11 Million people will be tested. The Travel Industry welcomes a decision by the Government'>Uk Government to abandon plans for a further change to its Traffic Light System for International Travel, but labour says its in total chaos. Hello and welcome to bbc world news. A sprinter from belarus, who refused her Teams Order to fly home early from the olympics, has been granted a humanitarian visa by poland. We are also in contact with the unhcr, our partner, which is helping her, we were in contact with them right from the get Go, on the evening of, as i was mentioned yesterday, on the night of the incident. As i said yesterday, we are expecting and have asked for a report from the noc today. We requested it yesterday, we want it today. We have decided to launch, not surprisingly, a formal investigation which will be led by the Ioc Administration and we need to establish the full facts, we need to hear everyone involved. That obviously can take time, and in the meantime obviously our first concern is for the athlete. Mariko oi is In Tokyo with more on the reaction injapan. I saw the story being covered by several News Programmes this morning, how she will be leaving for poland tomorrow. But it is really not the main story here. The top headline is still the surge urging Covid 19 cases and how the Government has been asking Covid 19 patients to stay at home unless there symptoms are very severe. So that has been getting some criticism. As for Krystina Tsimanouskaya, it was interesting how some people on Social Media have been comparing how she is being traded compared to the ugandan athlete who tried to run away early in the games. Of because it is not as simple as just a difference in their Skin Colour, one tried to run away from his Hotel Room while the other looked for help through an official channel, through the ioc. But some people have also been speculating whether the fact that she sought asylum outside ofjapan may have contributed to the way she was treated because japan doesnT Grant Asylum to many people including the athletes. For now, lets turn our attention to the sports action. Lets speak to Jane Dougall, whos in the bbc sports centre. Great to see you. A lot is happening and Good news in the sailing for Team Gb. Dylan Fletcher And Stuart bithell stayed calm, didnt Like the pressure get to them and fortunately it was the german team that crept in, pushing New Zealand into third. Gb still had to cross the line at first, it came down to the last second, Team Gb pushing and winning it by centimetres they havent won Gold in this class for 20 years. Dylan Fletcher And Stuart bithell holding off germany by a whisker to wind the Medal Race and claim Gold. Look at the gi on their faces as the realisation they have done that. And in the last few minutes, Team Gb havent won a second Gold in the sailing was that it was Giles Scott, the defending champion, he won Gold at rio. He had to finish in fifth or better in the Finn Class Medal Race that that he did that because he finished in fourth in another tight finish, so two Goals for great britain. Dramatic stuff what about the athletics . On the track there was a stunning race from Norways Karsten Warholm who won the 400 metre hurdles. He now holds the European World and olympic titles and as he crossed, his emotions overcame him. He sunk to his knees, started to cry, but he then ripped his shirt almost in a Superman Type Style. He said the weather occurred in july in style. He said the weather occurred injuly in oslo, but he beat that convincingly to take Gold in a time of 45. 94 seconds. Rai benjamin took the silver. The ecstasy as you can see there from him, ripping his shirt open on the Finish Line. But as we know in athletics and in all sparta, the contrast between that gi because there was heartbreak for Team Gb and adam jalili. Because there was heartbreak for Team Gb and adamjalili. He because there was heartbreak for Team Gb and adam jalili. He was because there was heartbreak for Team Gb and adamjalili. He was in tears as he pulled up with a Hamstring Injury in the heat of his 200 Hamstring Injury in the heat of his 200 adamjalili. He had been hoping for a medal this time around, so as you can see, he was just distraught. That is his olympics over. He had been hoping for a medal. There was disappointment also for Caroline Dubois in the boxing, she lost out to thailands contestant. It was in a split decision. But that is just what has happened so far today. There is so much more to come. Coming up later, Team Gbs Xhaka La and James Heatly are competing. Plus lara and Jason Kenny are taking place in the cycling. And Ed Clancy has had to pull out all of the Team Pursuit. He is the three time olympic champion, but he has a Back Injury so he said it isnt fair to the rest of the team, he couldnt give it is all and has had a polite and has also announced his retirement from the spot. Huge news there the cycling. Thank you for the update there. The authorities in the central chinese city of wuhan, where coronavirus first surfaced in 2019, have said its entire population of 11 Million people will be tested for Covid 19. The announcement comes a day after the city reported seven cases of the highly transmissible Delta Variant. China is now battling to contain its largest Covid Outbreak in months, with Mass Testing and travel restrictions. More than 300 cases have been detected over ten days across 15 provinces. Lets cross to beijing now, where our China Correspondent Stephen Mcdonell is monitoring the situation. Hello. It is a strange contrast. The authorities saying they want to test 11 Million people, a hull city, but the actual numbers of cases seem relatively low compared to some of the Countries. The Countries. Absolutely. It might seem strange the Countries. Absolutely. It might seem strange for the Countries. Absolutely. It might seem strange for people the Countries. Absolutely. It might seem strange for people to the Countries. Absolutely. It might seem strange for people to hear. Seem strange for people to hear this, but you just have to put yourself into the minds of those who live in wuhan. Imagine being there, the city that had the worlds first lockdown, strict lockdown, coronavirus was eliminated, they have been Going about their daily lives for over a year without any cases, and now the Delta Variant has brought it back. Officials are saying, dont panic, theyre only some cases, dont panic, but on the other hand they are saying, we are Going to test everyone In The City and we dont want you to leave the province if you dont have to. This is only one place where they Delta Variant has reached. In the city where this fresh outbreak seems to have started, in nanjing, that entire population is being tested three times already in the last couple of weeks, so it shows how seriously the authorities are taking this. Right across china, the numbers are not that big at the moment. Today less than 100 new infections were being told. But it is the spread of the cases that has the officials worried, the number of places, dozens of locations where the Delta Variant is popping up. China, despite having ruled out vaccines, and we are being told more than1 billion doses have been administered, it still has an approach which is to get back to zero, an elimination approach. Im so for this reason, strict measures are being put in place, highways Going into areas have been closed, rail connections with beijing coming from high Risk Areas have been cancelled. Flights into certain cities, you cannot get at them, in some places, in a Tourist Location which saw a bit of a Super Spreader event, people are being told you cannot leave the area for the moment. And the feeling is the more people travel, the more they Go to low Risk Areas, the more it is spreading because everyone at these little outbreaks as happened in a low Risk Area and right across the country, the recommend everybody divides any non necessary travel. So it is Going to be interesting to see if the authorities are able to crush The Coronavirus again or if the variant is highly contagious and it will be too much for them to handle the step you have to remember we are in the Run Up to the Winter Olympics and they want to get back to zero before next february when the Winter Olympics will be held in beijing. I know you will be keeping a cross that for us. Thanks for all. The rapper, known as Dizzee Rascal, has been charged with assault, following an incident in south london. Labour has urged the Government to provide the full data behind its Coronavirus Travel restrictions system, after ministers scrapped plans for an Amber Watchlist, which would have indicated which Countries were Likely to move to red. The decision has, however, been welcomed by the Travel Industuy in the uk. When they return, they need to take a Covid Test before departure, and another test once theyre back. Lets get more on this now from our chief political correspondent adam fleming. So words Like chaos and confusion, never a Good sign for Government policy. Never a Good sign for Government-oli'>Government Oli. ~. , never a Good sign for Government-oli'>Government Oli ,~. , never a Good sign for Government policy. What happened was this idea ofthe policy. What happened was this idea of the amber policy. What happened was this idea of the Amber Watchlist, policy. What happened was this idea of the Amber Watchlist, a list of i of the Amber Watchlist, a list of Countries that are amber at the moment but the data suggests they could end up reading the rate could end up reading the rate could end up red in the nearfuture. The pros and cons were discussed, but then yesterday the Prime Minister decided not to Go ahead with it. In the name of keeping some simplicity in the system. It has been described by the newspapers and by the Labour Party as a U Turn but i think the Government would say it was a decision that had never been made, so a policy that has been parked rather than yoU Turned on. Were still waiting for the decisions on the Traffic Light System, this is the next review point, it could be tomorrow or thursday the stop we are potentially Going to see new added to the green List Stop will we see france taken off the Amber Plus List and will the Amber Plus List disappear altogether . And will the Red List get a little bit longer or shorter . Some of the Travel Industry saying if you want to make it simple, why not have a system Like in america where people can Go pretty much anywhere they want if they are fully vaccinated a pad from a handful of high risk Countries where you have a Red List. Some Travel Operators Like Heathrow Airport saying the key is making the Testing System when you come back to the uk much simpler and much cheaper and that is how you encourage people to travel safely. 00v vamp is The Future Of War by Remote Control stay with us on bbc world news, still to come. How does the World Deal with so called Killer Robots . Diplomats from 50 nations are meeting at the un in Geneva Today to discuss just that. Some say lethal autonomous weapons could save lives with fewer troops on the battlefield, while Human Rights Groups warn they raise big moral questions about war and who decides to kill. Our correspondent, imogen foulkes, joins us from geneva. Hello. So this sounds Like one of these questions from Sci Fi movies, but this is very real, a very real life consequences to it as well. Absolutely. We are all familiar with drones which are used quite extensively in Conflict Zones already. The next step up, some of these are also being used apparently are pre programmed art weapons, Killer Robots if you Like, where they apparently know what they are Going to do, who they will kill even long before they leave their port. Vitali shishov, head of the belarusian house in ukraine, wentjogging on Monday Morning but did not return and could not be reached on his mobile phone. He had been reported missing by his partner after not returning home from a run. That is it from me. This is Bbc News. Good morning. The weather remains unsettled this week, sunshine and showers. Later on in the week, there will be rain and it will turn a bit windier. Today that is the case, sunny spells and some scattered showers, shower slow moving, heavy infantry in places. This cloud is yesterday s showers, we had some slow moving ones also, and a new system has arrived into the South West, bringing in rain. And today we will see it extend down to the Channel Islands. Unless it moves away, it will leave a lot of cloud in its wake. The rest of the uk, there is some sunshine but there is the slow moving, heavy and thundery showers, but if you are out of them in light breezes, it will feel quite pleasant with temperatures up to about 21 degrees. You can see the system waiting here, this is a Weather Front that will bring some rain into Western Scotland and also into Northern Ireland. We could well see some Mist And Fog forming by night and these are overnight lows of about ten up to 14 degrees. Tomorrow, here is the Weather Front coming in across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland, it will be slowly pushing that little bit further East And Weakening as it does so. Again a lot of dry weather to start the day, many seeing some shine, any early morning Mist And Fog lifting quite quickly but then we have the showers developing again. Not by much of a breeze to move them, so they will be slow moving, heavy and thundery if you catch one. At temperatures up a Touch On Today and must Likely to catch one in the north of england than today. Thursday, it looks messy as the low pressure comes in. You can see the squeeze across the South West and wales so there will be Gusty Winds gusting potentially to 40 mph. In some eastern areas, they could stay dry for much of the day though the Cloud Will Build, as the rain moves in from the west, Continuing Itsjourney the rain moves in from the west, continuing its journey moving towards the east. But feeling a little bit cooler. Especially if you are in the wind and rain. The outlook beyond that, it does remain unsettled again, sunshine and showers, but hints later in the month we could see something dry and warm. This is Bbc News, the headlines. In tokyo, a french father is drawing the world s attention to what he says is the kidnapping of children by their own parents in japan. Vincent fichot started a Hunger Strike outside the Olympic Stadium three weeks aGo. He says his japanese wife disappeared from the Family Home with his two children three years aGo and that he has not seen them since. Our Tokyo Correspondent Rupert wingfield hayes reports all of these parents are being prevented from seeing their children by their former japanese spouses. Outside the Olympic Stadium In Tokyo, This French Man has been on Hunger Strike sincejuly the 10th. He said he is hoping to bring the world s attention to what is happening to him and many other parents injapan. It was on friday the 10th of august, 2018. I woke up in the morning, the house felt totally normal. I had breakfast. When i came back at 6pm, i walked inside the House And Everything is Gone. Like, furniture, belongings, the car and a course my children. So i called up my lawyer and i said, look, look, the house has been emptied, i cannot reach my wife, what s Going on . And he very casually told me, she kidnapped your children and it s done, you re never Going to see them again. Vincent s story is unfortunately not uncommon here injapan. It derives from the so called single custody system. It means when Marriages Breakdown here, only one parent will be awarded sole custody of all the children, there is no alternative. Because of that, some parents decide to effectively abduct their own children, get them registered under their own household registration. Once that s happened, it s almost impossible for the other parent to get the situation reversed. It s what some lawyers here have described to me as the first parent to abduct, wins. This japanese mother lost all contact with her two children when she walked out of an unhappy marriage over three years aGo. I have not been able to see my children in three years and four months. At first i cried every day, looking at the sky, wanting to see them. Is cry. Ijust cannot understand why i am not able to see my children, the ones i gave birth to, it is just too much to bear. Vincent s protest is bringing together many others with similar stories, including this young woman, who said she was barred from seeing her french father for 14 years. They divorced when i was four. I didn t see him again until i was 18. My mother didn t tell me he called and sent me gifts. When i turned 18, i really wanted to see my father. So i decided to visit him in france. I found out that the story i was told about their divorce was wrong. I was told he did not love me but that was wrong. The bbc has attempted to contact vincent s wife but she has refused to speak to us. He said he will carry on his Hunger Strike through the olympics to show the world how japan is denying thousands of children their basic right to both their parents. Rupert wingfield hayes, Bbc News, tokyo. In afghanistan, Ferocious Fighting is taking place in Lashkar Gah in Helmand Province there are real fears it could be the first Provincial Capital to fall to the taliban. It looks Like things are Going to get worse with the departure of american, british and coalition forces. In the past 20 years, many afghan families have supported british and american troops as translators, guides and more. Here s our diplomatic Editor Mark urban. In recent months, the insurgents have taken over large amounts of the afghan countryside. Clashes on the outskirts of kabul follow recent taliban attempts to infiltrate the country s other main cities. Kandahar in the South And Herat in the west. In both places there has been violence in the suburbs but Government forces are holding. However in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand Province, and centre of britain s campaign in afghanistan, the situation has become critical. During its operations, the British Army was critically dependent on interpreters and indeed We Saw that when we covered the fighting there. Many have already been resettled but hundreds, including a man we ve spoken to and we ll Call Ali had not, despite six years working for the British Army. You know, everybody is aware that interpreters are in danger because we worked for British Forces. Many of my colleagues they are also in danger, especially the interpreter because we are the people who worked honestly, bravely with British Forces in a hard condition in Helmand Province in 2009, 2008 and 2011, 2012, 2013. We were the people actually, we stood bravely, honestly with British Forces on the ground in the Front Line against taliban. The taliban is waiting for their revenge. To him and hundreds of others, the uk says they are not eligible for resettlement because of the way they left its employment or worked for contractors. Surely some were guilty of crimes or misdemeanours but in many Cases Itjust comes down to Personality Clashes that caused them to leave or, as ali puts it, a clash of cultures. What is happening now though is that a group of senior officers are pressing the Government'>Uk Government to let these afghans in as a matter of urgency. Its a relatively generous policy. Wed Like to see those dismissed, we Like to see that addressed, but Like to see those who are employed on Third Party contracts, we Like to see that it addressed. It is insane they are not eligible because they were on a Third Party contract. I mean, that is absolution of responsibility, abdication of responsibility by the ministry of defence. Unable to travel to the uk, many who worked for nato, Like ali, have nowhere else to Go. I don t have an alternative, what to do but if i travel to pakistan or other Countries there is also no safe place for me because there are. They are a hotbed of insurgents over the taliban is that they will find me and they will kill me. You know, actually, isaid i cannot Go to my own province because village and my district is all controlled, under the control of taliban. Actually, sir, i have lost my way what to do. I don t have a plan. The only plan i have is i m yelling for help from the british Government, the British Forces to help me, to support me, take me back to the uk as my other colleagues, who were eligible. The Defence Secretary tweeted the afghans working for contractors or dismissed for minor offences will be eligible for resettlement. But with the issue under discussion for the past eight years, they had better be quick about it. Mark urban reporting there. This week gardeners at the University Of Cambridge are abandoning their mechanical Lawn Mowers and turning to a much more historic way of managing their land. Shire horses will harvest a Wildflower Meadow which has recently been planted outside one of the country s most famous buildings. It looks Like a glimpse into the past, but actually six year old cosmo and 15 year old boy are Kings College s latest lawnmowers. Come on now. Come on. Keep Going. Come on. Good lads. And today they re here to mow a meadow. For two years, this carpet of wildflowers has replaced some of the college s 18th century pristine lawn. The idea was to boost biodiversity on the site. The results, an increase in the number of species, a more Natural Environment and an eruption of colour. Our Wildflower Meadow is now in its second year. We installed it to demonstrate the fact that Wildflower Meadows do have a place in urban areas because, of course, we are more or less in the middle of cambridge. The Sustainability Issues, they address, the biodiversity they bring in, there s just so much fun. And the Shire Horses are here to demonstrate the fact that you can actually manage these meadows, attempting to minimise the internal combustion engine. You know, you don T Need to be flying over the top of it with a tractor all the time because, of course, horses are a lot lower carbon than tractors. For 250 years, the Back Lawn of king s college has been part of this iconic image of cambridge. Changing it was a big gamble, but researchers say different species of plants and insects have been thriving. I ve been really surprised. I thought this project would be largely tokenistic, but actually it s having collected the data over three years. It is. It s big enough that it really does make a difference in terms of biodiversity. It s notjust species that were in the area anyway, Feeding Opportunistically at species that are finding and using this meadow as a meadow. For brett, The Apprentice gardener, documenting the meadow has allowed him to fulfill his other passion of photography. Its changed so much in the last two years. The first year it was very Showy Poppies and cornflowers and things, and now its a lot more intense a lot more wild carrots. But the Insect Life Isjust incredible. But once youre actually inside, theres so many things. So many things buzzing around you, its amazing. Good lads, Good lads. The meadow will be back next spring and could be expanded in years to come. Using Cosmo And Boy may not be the fastest or most efficient way of cutting the grass, but these heavy horses are kinder to the wildlife. Jo black, Bbc News. Stay with us on Bbc News. Police in ukraine say an activist from belarus who runs an organisation helping Activists Escape has been found dead in a park In Kyiv. Vitali shishov, head of the belarusian house in ukraine, wentjogging In Kyiv on Monday Morning, but did not return and could not be reached on his mobile phone. He was reported missing by his partner. We will have more details on that as we get them. That news just breaking in the last hour or so. The news from kyiv comes as a sprinter from belarus who refused her team s order to fly home early from the olympics Krystina Tsimanouskaya is at the Polish Embassy In Tokyo, and it s believed she plans to Go to warsaw on wednesday. We are also in contact with the unhcr, our partner, which is helping her, we were in contact with them right from the get Go, on the evening of, as i was mentioned yesterday, on the night of the incident. The top headline is still the surge in Covid 19 cases and how the Government has been asking Covid 19 patients to stay at home unless their symptoms are very severe. So that has been getting quite a lot criticism. As for miss tsimanouskaya, i thought it was interesting how some people on Social Media have been comparing how she is being treated compared to the ugandan athlete who tried to run away earlier in the games. Of course, it is not as simple asjust a difference in their Skin Colours one tried to run away from his Hotel Room, while the other sought help through an official channel, through the ioc. But some people have also been speculating whether the fact that she sought asylum outside ofjapan may have contributed to the way she was treated, because japan doesn T Grant Asylum to many people, including the elite athletes. Take you to our top story, Breaking News. The Belarus Activist found deadin news. The Belarus Activist found dead In Kyiv. Yes, the police in ukraine have published an official statement saying this activist was found dead after Going missing yesterday during his morning run. He was found hanged in the park In Kyiv and his personal belongings were found on him. The most important part we know is that the police are investigating all kinds of theories behind this incidence. They say it could have been a Suicide Or Murder that was disguised as a suicide. And now we have had an official statement from the belarusian house in ukraine, the nGo that the activist led, and they are saying that he had been under surveillance recently. Surveillance recently. I know youll keep across that for us and we will i for the moment. I know youll keep across that for us and we will come j across that for us and we will come to speaking. Speak to you. For now, let s turn our attention to the sports action. Let s speak to Jane Dougall who s in the bbc sports centre. There has been lots happening. Let s talk about Team Gb and the sailing. Its talk about Team Gb and the sailing. It s been a very successful morning so far for team it s been a very successful morning so farforTeam Gb it s been a very successful morning so farfor Team Gb in the it s been a very successful morning so far for Team Gb in the sailing. So farfor Team Gb in the sailing. Two so far for Team Gb in the sailing. Two Gold-medal'>Gold Medals and it puts their Gold-medal'>Gold Medal tally up to 13, so we are fifth in the Medal Table. The first Gold was from Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell in the men s 49. It was a gripping race. They started in the Silver Medal Position behind New Zealand and they had to make sure the kiwis finished in third if britain were to stand a chance of Gold. Fortunately that is what happened, the germans Got up to second and pushed New Zealand into third. Gb still had to cross the line first and it came to the last second with them pipping the germans on the Finish Line by centimetres. The second Goal-camejust'>Goal Camejust on the Finish Line by centimetres. The second Goal came just shortly afterwards from Giles Scott in the Finn Class Medal Race. He was defending champion, winning Gold in rio. He had to finish according to the points in fifth place or better to take Gold and he finished in fourth. So a second Gold for britain in the sailing was controversially, he will be forever a champion because it is been dropped from the olympics. There has been another couple of medals in the sailing also. Not bad. Let s move to the athletics and an extraordinary race before in the men s hurdles. Aha, before in the mens hurdles. A stunning finish from norways catton stunning finish from norway s catton farhan, a new World Record and a Gold-medal'>Gold Medalfor the norwegian. Gold medalfor the norwegian. Karsten Gold-medal'>Gold Medalforthe norwegian. Karsten Warholm. He holds the olympic and world titles. He realised he had beaten his own record, look at the expression on his face to take Gold as he finished, his emotions overcame him, so he ripped his shirt almost in a Superman Type Style and how incredulous he was to see his time when he finished crash on the line. But the contrast in spot as always. The drive from the Hurdles Winner and the issues for adam gemili. He was due to run in the 200 metres finals, but in the heat he pulled up injured, he will not take part. He was in tears, in fact. He didn t get out of the blocks, really, for his heed. His hamstring went in practice before he had even entered the colour room. He asked for it to be strapped up but he couldn t get out of the blocks and he was devastated. He finished in fourth place in rio, he had been hoping for a meadow this time around but not to be. Disappointment also for Caroline Dubois in the boxing, losing to sudaporn seesondee in the lightweight quarterfinals. That was tough because she lost on a split decision. It is such a busy day, the final of the three Metres Springboard in the diving is taking place, Jack Laugher are in contention for a medal. And Coming Up contention for a medal. And Coming Up on day 11 in the gymnastics, Simone Biles has been out practising on the beam ahead of her reappearance In Tokyo. She withdrew from the five events all together because of her Mental Health issues, so she will be coming back to tokyo to make a reappearance. And just quickly, the olympic track cycling, three time champion Ed Clancy has pulled out and announced his retirement from the sport, so a lot Going on. Our finer correspondent is monitoring the situation. Our finer it might seem strange for people to hear this, but you just have to put yourself into the minds of those who live in wuhan. Imagine being there, the city that had the world s first lockdown, strict lockdown, coronavirus was eliminated, they have been Going about their daily lives for over a year without any cases, and now the Delta Variant has brought it back. Officials are saying, don t panic, they re only six or sevem cases, don t panic, but on the other hand they are saying, we are Going to test everyone In The City and we don t want you to leave the province if you don t have to. This is only one place where the Delta Variant has reached. In the city where this fresh outbreak seems to have started, in nanjing, that entire population has been tested three times already in the last couple of weeks, so it shows how seriously the authorities are taking this. Right across china, the numbers are not that big at the moment. Today less than 100 new infections, we are being told. But it is the spread of the cases that has the officials worried, the number of places, dozens of locations where the Delta Variant is popping up. China, despite having rolled out vaccines, and we are being told more than1 billion doses have been administered, it still has an approach which is to get back to zero, an elimination approach. And so, for this reason, strict measures are being put in place, highways have been closed, rail connections with beijing coming from high Risk Areas have been cancelled. Flights into certain cities, you cannot get at them, in some places, in a Tourist Location which saw a bit of a Super Spreader event, people are being told you cannot leave the area for the moment. And the feeling is the more people travel, the more they Go to even low Risk Areas, the more it is spreading because everyone at these little outbreaks has happened in a low Risk Area and right across the country, they recommend everybody avoids any non necessary travel. So it is Going to be interesting to see if the authorities are able to crush The Coronavirus or if the variant will be too much for them to handle the step you have to remember we are in the Run Up to the Winter Olympics and they want to get back to zero before next february when the Winter Olympics will be held in beijing. The weather remains unsettled this week, sunshine and showers. Later on in the week, there will be rain and it will turn a bit windier. Today that is the case, sunny spells and some scattered showers slow moving, heavy and thundery in places. This cloud is yesterdays showers, we had some slow moving ones also, and a new system has arrived into the South West, bringing in rain. That is for the Isles Of Scilly, west cornwall. And today we will see it extend down to the Channel Islands. As it moves away, it will leave a lot of cloud in its wake. We could well see some Mist And Fog forming by night and these are our overnight lows of about ten up to iii degrees. Tomorrow, here is the Weather Front coming in across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland, it will be slowly pushing that little bit further East And Weakening as it does so. Again a lot of dry weather to start the day, many seeing some sunshine, any early morning Mist And Fog lifting quite quickly but then we have the showers developing again. Not much of a breeze to move them, so they will be slow moving, heavy and thundery if you catch one. Temperatures up a Touch On Today and more Likely to catch one in the north of england than today. Thursday, it looks messy as the low pressure comes in. You can see the squeeze across the South West and wales so there will be Gusty Winds gusting potentially to a0 mph. In some eastern areas, they could stay dry for much of the day though the Cloud Will Build, as the rain moves in from the west, continuing its journey moving towards the east. Feeling a little bit cooler. Especially if you are in the wind and rain. The outlook beyond that, it does remain unsettled again, sunshine and showers, but hints later in the month we could see something drier and warmer. This is Bbc News, the headlines. June was an extraordinary month in terms of Stamp Duty changes. The fundamentals remain really strong. Great supply in terms of mortgages from banks and building societies. We take great comfort from what happened in scotland where there Stamp Duty changed at The End of march. There was no Cliff Edge and the following quarter sales and constructions were up. We do foresee a slight moderation in the market that we do not think there will be any Cliff Edge effect because the fundamentals in terms of demand remains strong. Interesting to get your thoughts on the long Term Trend. Thank you. We appreciate it. The longTerm Trend. Thank you. We appreciate it earlier this week, Team Gbs Max Whitlock became the most successful british gymnast, after winning his third olympic Gold-medal'>Gold Medal for his display on the pommel horse. This is on top of his three other olympic bronze medals. Max started training at the South Essex Gym club at the age of 12 Bbc Look easts Mike Liggins has been following his journey. We first met Max Whitlock on Look East in 2010. 17 year old max was preparing for the commonwealth games in india. He had big hair and big ambitions. Hopefully, we can Go there and win a team medal, which would be really Good, and then hopefully get an individual medal. We are a Good team, Good friends, it should be a Good competition. We were there when max went back to his old primary school in hemel hempstead. He went on to long dean school, where Head Teacher Graham cunningham was watching over the weekend. It was a real feeling of pride to see that he stepped up and delivered under that level of pressure and to think that weve been a small part of that is. It actually does make you proud. By 2012, max was winning two bronze medals at the london olympics. On the pommel horse and the team event. But it wasnt until four years later in rio that max really hit the big time. He knows he jusT Needs to land this tumble. Come on, max, up high. Good twisting. Fabulous landing. He became the first british gymnast ever to win an individual Gold-medal'>Gold Medal on the floor and then went on to win Gold on the pommel horse. Max whitlock is now a double olympic champion. There were scenes on the Flight Home from Rio And Max went on to be awarded an mbe in 2017. We were there when he was awarded an honorary degree from anglia ruskin university. By now, everyone wanting a photograph of him balancing on something, anything really. And we kept in touch with max during lockdown. Not content with eating crisps on the sofa, he had a pommel horse in the garden, Like d. Like you do. His latest post on twitter, a photograph of his latest Gold-medal'>Gold Medal and, to think hes still only 28. Mike liggins, Bbc Look east. A remarkable achievement, isnt it . Concern has been expressed for the survival of chimpanzees in Sierra Leone. The population of the animal has been disappearing fast on the african continent, largely due to deforestation and other human activity. Sierra leone is the first country to declare the primate a national animal an emblem of the country as it tries to reverse the trend. Umaru fofana has been to tacugama, one of the continents best known chimp sanctuaries. Translation i take care of orphaned chimps, whose parents have been killed in the wild. There has been no Nationalforest Inventory in Sierra Leone for more than a0 years, but some estimate about a quarter of the rainforest here is Gone. Scotlands first minister Nicola Sturgeon is to set out Plans Today for the lifting of most legal Covid 19 restrictions in a statement to msps. The whole of scotland is currently in level zero of the virus alert system, and the first minister has said she is hopeful of Going further on 9th august, which could see physical distancing rules relaxed, the return of Office Working and larger crowds at events. A Wildflower Meadow planted on part of a pristine Cambridge University Lawn is being harvested with the help of Shire Horses and a traditional hay wain. The meadow was planted at Kings College chapel last year and aims to create a biodiversity rich ecosystem. Our Reporterjo Black has more. It looks Like a glimpse into the past, but actually six year old cosmo and 15 year old boy are Kings Colleges latest lawnmowers. Come on, now. Come on. Keep Going. Come on. Good lads. And today theyre here to mow a meadow. For two years, this carpet of wildflowers has replaced some of the colleges18th century pristine lawn. The Sustainability Issues they address, the biodiversity they bring in, theres just so much fun. And the Shire Horses are here to demonstrate the fact that you can actually manage these meadows, attempting to minimise the internal combustion engine. You know, you donT Need to be flying over the top of it with a tractor all the time because, of course, horses are a lot lower carbon than tractors. For 250 years, the Back Lawn of Kings College has been part of this iconic image of cambridge. Changing it was a big gamble, but researchers say different species of plants and insects have been thriving. Ive been really surprised. I thought this project would be largely tokenistic, but actually its. Having collected the data over three years, it is. Its big enough that it really does make a difference in terms of biodiversity. Its notjust species that were in the area anyway, Feeding Opportunistically, its species that are finding and using this meadow as a meadow. Now the Government is launching a £7 million fund to support new apprenticeship schemes with their start up costs. The fund will establish a small number of agencies that will set up so called Flexi Job apprenticeships so an apprentice can work across a range of projects and with different employers. We have been trying to tread a careful balance between opening up and also minimising the risk from new variants. We have all seen the impact new variants can have and the very quick impact which curtailed christmas and delayed the unlocking by month that we had just experienced. The most important thing was to try to get the balance right. We have explored a number of options, including Amber Watchlist, etc. We have looked at all the various options until on the whole we need to make sure the system is simple enough for people to understand. If it gets too complicated, people cannot really follow it. We have looked at the various options and on balance we think the system has to be simple enough. It is difficult to tread that careful balance and that is what we are trying to do. We deftly want to open up travel and that is what we are trying to do was keeping us all safe from new variants.
