If you have just joined if You Havejustjoined us, you are in time for the Type Business stories. Its a busy time for earnings and the Oil Giant Bp will be revealing its latest results in an hour and a half. Oil prices hit their highest level in almost two years during the second Quarter And Refining margins have also improved significantly, so analysts are expecting solid profits this time from bp. But they will also be listening out for more news on Bps Transformation from a company that makes vast amounts of money from Fossil Fuels to an integrated Energy Company focusing on low carbon energy. Bp has committed to becoming a net zero company by 2050. Joining me now is nitesh shah, director, research, wisdomtree. Always good to see you. First of all, how much money do you think bp has made in the last quarter. Think bp has made in the last auarter. , think bp has made in the last auarter. ,. , quarter. Thanks for having me on our quarter. Thanks for having me on your show. Quarter. Thanks for having me on your show. Strong quarter. Thanks for having me on your show. Strong oil on your show. Strong Oil Prices, they have risen more than 70 in the past year and national Gas Prices in europe at an all time high, that has been very kind to bp, they have boosted their revenues and also its Refining Margins as well, so it is not only the pulling the oil out of the ground that has benefited, but the downstream, turning that oil into products and selling that there has also benefited in this environment, so we are expecting strong results from bp, as as well as the other other Oil Companies that have announced results last week. It announced results last week. It has had a rollercoaster few years, because you remember when the pandemic first kicked in Oil Prices sunk significantly as global demand fell off a cliff, but lets not talk about the future for bp, because it has a huge transformation ahead of it, so what will we hear about that . Amongst the big international Oil Companies, bp has been the most aggressive in terms of announcing a transition plans. Last year they mentioned that they want to be net neutral in terms of emissions by 2050. So far, if you look at all the international Oil Companies that have been selling lots of assets over the past five years, disposing of old oil types of assets, the pace at which they have been buying new assets to transition into the new world of renewables has been quite slow. Bp has made a few purchases over the past year, but the key time is now, how much will they buy assets going forward . If you look at what other Oil Companies have been doing, they have been announcing Share Buybacks and increase dividends, throwing money back at the investors, and somewhat drinking down their businesses. How will that be consistent with expanding their business into this new renewable environment that we will be seeing over the next few years . That is the key question. Few years . That is the key question few years . That is the key question. Few years . That is the key cuestion. , ~. ,. , question. You know, if you are a Fund Manager question. You know, if you are a Fund Manager and question. You know, if you are a Fund Manager and you question. I cant really give a | recommendation on the be . I cant really give A Recommendation on the front, but it is clear that more and more investors are becoming environmentally and socially governance aware, and on that environmental side, governance aware, and on that environmentalside, i governance aware, and on that environmental side, i think thatis environmental side, i think that is becoming a increasing component of investors decisions, so whoever shout the loudest i guess on this front, is the most forward with action on this front will probably capture a larger audience in terms of investors. Right now Oil Companies, big international Oil Companies are still big international Oil Companies, they have not yet made the transition. If they are preparing for the new world, the need to be able to Step Up the game a little bit faster. ,. ,. ,. , Step Up the game a little bit faster. ,. ,. , Step Up the game a little bit faster. ,. ,. , faster. Good to have you on the programme. Faster. Good to have you on the programme, and faster. Good to have you on the programme, and dont faster. Good to have you on the programme, and dont worry, l faster. Good to have you on the. Programme, and dont worry, we programme, and don t worry, we won t asking you for A Recommendation, that s not something we don t do on the bbc, just wondering which of the Big Oil Majors is attractive in terms of its green credentials. Now to travel and a proposal to create an Amber Watch List of countries at risk of moving to red in the uk s Travel Traffic Light system has been abandoned a Government Source has told the bbc. It comes after the Prime Minister said he wanted a simple and balanced approach to pandemic travel. Mps and Travel Industry figures have been warning a complex system risked putting people off from travelling and this comes just days before the government reviews which countries are on which list. Joining me now is fiona cincotta, senior Market Analyst at city index. Good to talk to you. There is just so much discussion about these Travel Lists and criticism and the Travel Industry putting in their own recommendations, calling for more clarity, so it would seem we have a U Turn on this Amber Watchlist. We have a uturn on this Amber Watchlist. , we have a uturn on this Amber Watchlist watchlist. Thats right. This will be really watchlist. Thats right. This will be really important watchlist. Thats right. This will be really important for| will be really important for the Travel Industry. Let s not forget that the Travel Industry has been one of the hardest hit across the pandemic, we have had restrictions on flights and travelling tourism for the best part of the year and a half, and we have seen the results of travelling tourism companies, we had british Airways Owner Iag at The End of last week, and we saw they reported a 2 Euro Loss 2 Billion euros loss, Flying Atjust 20 of 2019, thats loss, Flying Atjust 20 of 2019, that s a really small capacity, and that s because of restrictions, quarantines, nerves over travel, so a more complex system as far as the travel and Traffic Light System is concerned would have hit these companies even harder, and it would have kept people from booking holidays. We do still have some of the summer left, there is still some optimism, that Medically System in place we might still get some saw in bookings towards The End of the summer, if the government is clear and people feel relaxed that they will be able to go on holiday and not have to come back to different restrictions on different quarantine measures, so this would be good news for the Travel Industry, if the government can keep this really simple. Government can keep this really simle. , government can keep this really simle. , ,. , simple. That is the question, if it cannot simple. That is the question, if it cannot cannot simple. That is the question, if it cannot cannot keep simple. That is the question, | if it cannot cannot keep things simple because with travel being restricted in terms of Uk Holidaymakers in france coming back, the role changing et cetera, despite the Amber Watchlist being taken away, many might still be very nervous about going overseas. That s right, and i think that s why many will be looking to the government for really clear guidelines and clarification, that even if they get that, i think there is still this level of Distrust And Uncertainty which could welljust put people off until next year. The Travel Industry will be looking for a pickup at The End of this summer, they really need that, that results coming through from the airlines, for example, who have not been encouraging these really are the last sort of hanging in there as far as their financials hanging in there as far as theirfinancials are hanging in there as far as their financials are concerned, they do need this big pickup, and so everyone will be looking very closely at what the government says on thursday as to whether we can get more clarity. To whether we can get more clari. ,. , clarity. Thanks for your time, aood to clarity. Thanks for your time, good to talk clarity. Thanks for your time, good to talk to clarity. Thanks for your time, good to talk to you. Australian Airline Qantas is standing down some 2,500 staff for at least two months, as Air Travel Numbers Slump due to lockdowns. Let s go to Nick Marsh who s following the story from our Asia Business Hub in singapore tell us more. These staff are mainly domestic tell us more. These staff are mainly domestic pilots, tell us more. These staff are | mainly domestic pilots, cabin crew, airport workers, and they are going to be stood down or furloughed, so they won t lose their job, furloughed, so they won t lose theirjob, but for the next two months at least they won t receive a wage from qantas, they will have to apply for various Government Support schemes instead. That s a bit controversial in australia because it was only yesterday that the government said it would be providing 100 Million to airlines to help them get through these latest lockdowns, and now you have critics and unions and qantas is basically jumping on this offer and workers are being consigned to a lower wage through no fault of their own, but it is true that it of their own, but it is true thatitis of their own, but it is true that it is a terrible time to be an Airline Carrier in australia right now. s for the past 18 months or so, International Travel has been more or less band, i mean really banned. It s really hard to get in or out of australia right now and qantas has been posting really big losses, 1. 5 billion this year, 2 Billion last year, and only where they managed to survive was this brief Air Travel bubble with new zealand, and domestic travel, but now you have these latest lockdowns, and both of these things have basically gone, it s really had qantas s Share Price in the last month, going down by 8 , and they have received a lot of money from the australian government, about 2 Billion so far, and it s going to be really hard to see a way out of this because the Delta Variant continues to spread, cities continue to lock down, and only 15 of people in australia are vaccinated right now, so who knows when International Travel is going to resume. The Chief Executive of qantas as there will be a big rebound when it happens, but it will be a long way away and it will have to be a big rebound. And it will have to be a big rebound rebound. There are a slew of Car Companies reporting their results this week. Stellantis, it s brands include fiat, chrysler and peugeot, is reporting today, as is bmw. Then we ve got general motors, Toyota And Honda on wednesday. So we should get a real sense of how the Car Making Sector is doing as we start to exit the pandemic. It s widely reported the biggest issue is a shortage of the semi conductor chips, but this is seen as a temporary problem. The main challenge is the electrification of the industry as governments set limits for The End of Petrol And Diesel cars. Jim holderjoins us editorial director, What Car . And autocar. Good morning to you. Nice to see you again. Which will be the standout, do you think . I think you are probably looking to the premium brands, brands like the megawatts, for the merely standout figures. But i think overall we are seeing a positive trend despite the massive headwinds they have been facing into. 0bviously they have had 18 months to forget and the Chip Crisis is actually another low in the perfect storm but they seem to be managing their stock incredibly well. Running it down because they are building and it is being billed because of this Chip Shortage, they are focusing on the margin. The underlying trend is positive but it seems to be the premium makers or vehicle makers with presence in china where the market is articular strong. Which Car Companies are doing best in china . And some of the bigger makers, toyota, honda. Toyota is having a very strong year against its rival volkswagen. They are vying to be the biggest carmaker per volume. Toyota has pulled ahead, notjust because of. Box wagon was stunted a little bit because of its very own high standards because of the Chip Shortage but both are recording strong figures. And recording strong figures. And lets talk about let s talk about electrification because many governments including the uk have set some quite tricky targets when it comes to elimination of sales of new Petrol And Diesel cars. Absolutely. They are all facing into this massive period of change, all of the carmakers. Still enters a couple of weeks ago announced it was investing 30 Billion between now and 2025 to go on this journey and to get itself to a point where at least it can be competitive. The money is being spent on five battery plants that it needs to build in order to power its cars in the future. It is moving its brands progressively between now and 2030 to be fully electric brands. Including 0pel and vauxhall. You start to be able to see the challenges they are facing, but of course it is not just about building the cars, they need the governments to support them in the journey to put the infrastructure in place so that when people buy the because they can use them properly and so on. There is a huge societal shift as well as a Car Making one under way. We shau a Car Making one under way. We shall keep a Car Making one under way. We shall keep a close eye. Talk to you again soon, jim, i m sure. Thanks again for getting up so early this morning. Things are getting more expensive. Take you for your company and have a really lovely day. Of course we are across the olympics constantly for you here on the bbc so stay with us. See you soon. Hello. Sunny spells aplenty on tuesday, but there ll be showers around, too. And in fact it s going to stay quite showery for the rest of the week, and, if anything, it ll turn even more unsettled towards The End of the week. Now, theJet Stream s not on our side. We re on the Cool Side of the jet. The Jet Stream separates the Cool Air from the north and the warm air to the south, and it also sends Weather Systems in our direction. So, actually much of western and Central Europe is feeling the effects of that Cool Air. You can see the yellows there, whereas the hot air is in place across the balkans, greece, turkey and into russia. In excess of a0 degrees there. Obviously not for us, not that we d want it anyway. But this is what it looks like early in the morning on tuesday. A lot of clear weather, Sunshine Right from the word go, but quite nippy in the morning in some places. Around five degrees in rural spots. So, the Weather Map for tuesday shows that we re in between Weather Systems. More Weather Systems out in the atlantic heading our way, but in between means that we ll see those scattered showers here and there. Very light winds as well. Now, watch where the showers form, some across the south almost along these distinct lines here. Elsewhere, a lot of sunshine around, but if you re caught underneath that area of showers, it could be very, very wet, Thunder And Lightning as well. But like i say, fine sunny weather for the majority of the uk, and temperatures getting up to around 20 or so. Now, the showers could linger into the evening hours for some of us on tuesday. Here s a look at wednesday s Weather Map, and there s a weak Weather Front approaching from the west. It ll bring some showers to parts of northern ireland, scotland, too, and there ll be one or two showers breaking out elsewhere. But once again, plenty of sunny spells, so it s really sort of All Or Nothing really over the next few days. Temperatures could get up to around 22 whether you re in the south or the north. Now, towards The End of the week, so here s thursday and friday, a low pressure is sitting on top of us. That inevitably means strengthening winds. They could be quite strong and gusty in the south of the country, and they will bring quite changeable weather. So, frequent showers on the way. Now, you can see the outlook, really not much changes overall for the foreseeable future. That s it from me. Bye bye. Fairly quiet on the Weather Front this is bbc news. I m Sally Bundock with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world.
