The chief midwife for england, jacqueline dunkley bent, has written to gp practices, obstetricians and midwives, stressing the need to encourage pregnant women to be vaccinated against coronavirus. Estimates suggest that about nine out of ten have not had the jab, as the bbc s Ellie Price reports. It is a message that could not be clearer. Expectant mothers should take action to protect themselves and their Babies by getting the covid vaccine. Any midwife not encouraging pregnant women to do so will now be going against official advice. At the antenatal clinic at the Chelsea And Westminster hospital, most of the pregnant women we spoke to had been jabbed. It is just for their safety. I think i started getting worried, especially in my third trimester. Luckily i havent had covid at all, ive been very lucky that way. I thought it important to have it to protect me and the baby now as well, so i decided to do it. I was really nervous before i had it done. I did some reading and thought, this is perfect. Having it done, i feel much safer, happier and much freer to go out and about now. I decided it was kind of Better j i was in a Better position having i the vaccine than i was potentiallyl being exposed to the risk of covid. But it has not been a straightforward decision for everyone. If it had been going for five years or something like that, like whooping cough, i would feel More confident to get it done. Because its so new, thats why i am still hesitating. I think that is what is keeping me from getting vaccinated. New data from the uk and Obstetrics Surveillance System shows of the 742 pregnant women admitted to hospital with covid since the start of february, only four had received a single dose of vaccine, and none had received both doses. The data also suggests the Delta Variant had increased the likelihood of pregnant patients having More severe symptoms. At the kensington and chelsea, they outlined other risks too. If you are umming and ahhing about having the Covid Vaccination, its really important to remember that in pregnancy, if you arent vaccinated, you are More likely to end up needing respiratory support. Unfortunately, it can lead to early miscarriages or preterm births, which you can imagine has a detrimental impact on your babys health. It is thought More than 51,000 pregnant women in england have had a firstjab and nearly 21,000 have had their second. That means hundreds of thousands remain unvaccinated. Medical experts insist there have been no Safety Concerns for pregnant women who have taken the jab already and it is safe. Ellie price, Bbc News. Lets talk More about this to dr edward morris, president of the royal college of obstetricians and gynaecologists. Good morning to you. Good morning, rebecca. Good morning to you. Good morning, rebecca nine good morning to you. Good morning, rebecca. Nine out good morning to you. Good morning, rebecca. Nine out of good morning to you. Good morning, rebecca. Women have not had the jab, what do you make of these findings . Well, we recommend that you make of these findings . Well, we recommend that covid you make of these findings . Well, we recommend that Covid Vaccination you make of these findings . Well, we recommend that Covid Vaccination in i recommend that Covid Vaccination in pregnancy is the safest way to protect Mother And Baby during the pregnancy period, and we have been looking very closely at the data over the past few months to see that, actually, around the world, many thousands of women have had the vaccine very safely, and we are here today to increase our Encouragement Today to increase our encouragement to pregnant women that this is the right thing to do. What do you say to pregnant women who worry that the jab could have a negative impact not only on them but on their unborn baby . Well, that is quite understandable, covid is relatively new, the vaccine is even newer, and the message we are trying to get across is that the vaccine itself appears to be safe in pregnancy. The vaccine does not cross the placenta to the baby, but the most important thing is that the antibodies that mum produces do help protect the baby, so when it is born, the baby has some protection as well. ,. , born, the baby has some protection as well. ,. ,. , as well. Can you understand the argument as well. Can you understand the argument that as well. Can you understand the argument that this as well. Can you understand the argument that this is as well. Can you understand the argument that this is a as well. Can you understand the argument that this is a new as well. Can you understand the argument that this is a new vaccine . Perhaps if it was five years old, we would no More further down the line about whether it has had impact on children as they develop. This is a bit of a step into the unknown . The vaccine is new, bit of a step into the unknown . Tue vaccine is new, but bit of a step into the unknown . Tte vaccine is new, but the bit of a step into the unknown . Tte vaccine is new, but the responsible thing is happening around the world, authorities such as the Uk Obstetrics Survey System is looking at the outcomes of these pregnancies, and so far the baby is born in the uk and around the world, we have not seen any Safety Concerns at all. T5 we have not seen any Safety Concerns at all. ,. ,. , at all. Is there any point during a pregnancy at all. Is there any point during a pregnancy that at all. Is there any point during a pregnancy that it at all. Is there any point during a pregnancy that it might at all. Is there any point during a pregnancy that it might be at all. Is there any point during a | pregnancy that it might be unsafe at all. Is there any point during a. Pregnancy that it might be unsafe to get the vaccine, i am thinking if you perhaps have an underlying Health Condition, for example . We have not Health Condition, for example . Have not seen any point in the pregnancy where it would be considered safer to give the vaccine and any other. We encourage women to do their very best to make sure they are vaccinated by the third trimester at the latest, because we know that towards The End of pregnancy, that is when the risks of covid become More substantial. Tell me More about the evidence that vaccinated women pass on antibodies to their Babies. To their Babies. Yes, so the evidence to their Babies. Yes, so the evidence that to their Babies. Yes, so the evidence that has to their Babies. Yes, so the evidence that has come to their Babies. Yes, so the evidence that has come so | to their Babies. Yes, so the I Evidence that has come so far, as to their Babies. Yes, so the evidence that has come so far, as i said earlier, is that the vaccine produces a nice surge of anti covid antibodies, the mums antibodies, not the vaccine, perfectly natural, so when the baby is born, the baby has some protection from covid as well. This is very important, because as you heard in your piece there, during the time of the Delta Variants where we are mixing much More at the moment, there are serious concerns if you get delta covid at the moment. We serious concerns if you get delta covid at the moment. Serious concerns if you get delta covid at the moment. We must leave it there, covid at the moment. We must leave it there. Wales is to become the first nation in the uk where people if theyre a close contact of a covid case. First Minister Mark Drakeford confirmed last night that the change will come into effect on the 7th Of August nine days earlier than england while scotland plans to do the same on the 9th. Labour is calling on the government to bring forward the date on which Double Jabbed people will no longer be told to self isolate in england. Its currently set for august 16th. Our political correspondent Iain Watson is in westminster. Morning to you, things clearly being done differently in different parts of the country, why have wales chose in August The 7th as opposed, i supposed, Tojust In August the 7th as opposed, i supposed, to just getting in August The 7th as opposed, i supposed, tojust getting rid of these rules now, for example . T these rules now, for example . I think wales are looking very much at the underlying data in wales, but also this is the next stage, if you like, of their road map, so in a sense, englandsjuly the 19th, if you like, and August The 16th combined, so there will be a change in on the social distancing rules to reopen nightclubs and so on, which are still closed in wales, and at the same time get rid of the requirement to self isolate if you have been double jab, and of course if you test negative. If you test positive, of course, you would still be expected to self isolate for ten days. Interestingly, we saw eight days. Interestingly, we saw eight daysin days. Interestingly, we saw eight days in a row of falling Case Numbers in wales, and of Course Case numbers in wales, and of Course Case numbers in wales, and of Course Case numbers in england are beginning to edge up again, although still down week on week. When it comes to the logic of this, it is quite hard to interpret, because borisjohnson says that August The 16th is nailed down, Keir Starmer now says that the whole uk should really change the rules at the same time as wales, on August The 7th. I was asking labour about the particular logic of that, and they seem to be seeing two things, that people who have been Double Jabbed should be rewarded and also that, quite simply, at the moment, with almost 700,000 being asked to self isolate last week as close contacts, the economy is being crippled. But then why not do it now . That is certainly The View of former Labour Cabinet Minister ben bradshaw. Im still not entirely clear why august The 70s being asked for particularly, but i think politically i can see why Keir Starmer is doing this, because he knows there is a lot of pressure on borisjohnson from knows there is a lot of pressure on Boris Johnson from some knows there is a lot of pressure on borisjohnson from some of his own backbench mps, notjust the lockdown sceptics, but former Health Secretaryjeremy Hunt calling for the data to be moved forward, businesses calling for the same, so certainly saying that there should be an earlier date is something which, i think, be an earlier date is something which, ithink, is be an earlier date is something which, i think, is designed to make Borisjohnson Feel which, i think, is designed to make Boris Johnson feel uncomfortable. Good to talk to you, Iain Watson, our political correspondent at westminster. The headlines on Bbc News day seven of the olympics and another gold for Team Gb, as Bethany Shriever wins the womens Bmx Racing final. Just moments after Team Mate Kye Whyte claimed britains first olympic medal in the mens event. And theres been More medals in the pool this morning for the mens team, and a Bronze in the womens trampoline. Pregnant women are urged to get vaccinated, as estimates from england suggest about nine out of ten have not had the jab. The uks biggest dairy company, arla, has told the bbc that it failed to make 25 of its deliveries to supermarkets last weekend because it didnt have enough drivers. A combination of brexit and the pandemic has exacerbated a national shortage of heavy Goods Vehicle drivers. Arla Boss Ash Amirahmadi says bold action is now needed to avoid a summer of disruption. Hes been talking to our Business Correspondent Emma simpson. This is the worlds largest fresh milk dairy. We process over A Billion litres of milk from our Cooperative Farmers Owners a year. So this is a vast operation. In fact, one in every five bottles of milk sold in the uk is made here. Since the beginning of april, we have experienced driver shortages. So being able to take the products from a factory, like here at aylesbury, to the supermarkets. That has now increased to such a level where we are now not able to deliver milk to every store that we would like to. Can you quantify this . Normally, we deliver milk to 21100 stores daily. So we are a very big milkman. Unfortunately, at the moment there about a 10 of the stores every day that we cant deliver to. And at the weekend, it is worse. Last saturday, there were 600 stores that we couldnt deliver milk too. Thats a lot of milk. Thats a lot of milk, and its very worrying for customers when they going to shop, and its notjust milk. It is an industry issue. Its very worrying to customers when they go into shops and find that the shelves empty. What do you want to see happen . It is a structural issue of a shortage of drivers in the uk, and it needs a structural solution. However, going into the summer, with lots More holidays coming up, there is a short Term Crisis we need to make sure we dont have Food Shortages in the summer, and therefore we would like to work with the government to recognise its a crisis. Secondly, there is a backlog of tests for hgv drivers. We predict about 30,000 drivers are waiting to be tested. We want the government to work with us to accelerate that. And, secondly, we believe that driving should be recognised as skilled shortage, and therefore open up temporary visas for the industry to bring European Drivers back into the country. The first person convicted under Hong Kongs national Security Law has been sentenced to nine years in prison for terrorist activities. 24 year old Tong Ying Kit was convicted earlier this week, after driving his motorcycle into three Riot Police injuly last year, injuring them. He was carrying a flag with a political slogan reading, liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times. The law came into force after a series of mass pro democracy protests in 2019, some of which turned violent. We can cross live to Hong Kong, and our correspondent danny vincent. I , this News Hasjust broken within the last hour, tell us More. The last hour, tell us More. Well, around a year the last hour, tell us More. Well, around a year ago, the last hour, tell us More. Well, around a year ago, in the last hour, tell us More. Well, around a year ago, in fact the last hour, tell us More. Well, around a year ago, in fact the last hour, tell us More. Well, around a ear aao, in fact 24 hours around a year ago, in fact 2a hours after the national Security Law was introduced, a young man called Tong Ying Kit rode a motorcycle into three Riot Police. He was holding a flag, written on it a very popular words, a political slogan that was very popular during the protest movement. He has now been sentenced to prison for this crime. He will now be serving nine years in prison for Terrorism Related Charges and also inciting its assertion. Now, here in Hong Kong, The Point that many people will be thinking about and perhaps worried about is the Charge And Conviction and sentence relating to incitement to secession. That means the words that were written on his flag, which is that many protesters were using throughout 2019 in the streets, they were chanting it, a very popular slogan, according to this case, it seems that those words, printed on his flag, essentially break the national Security Law and has landed him six and a half years in prison for holding that flag while committing that crime. Now, many people in Hong Kong will fear that means Freedom Of Speech is now under threat in the territory. Bud means Freedom Of Speech is now under threat in the territory. Threat in the territory. And what about Benny Threat in the territory. And what about benny tai, threat in the territory. And what about benny tai, the threat in the territory. And what about benny tai, the veteran i about benny tai, the veteran pro Democracy Activist . He has also appeared in court, hasnt he . ProDemocracy Activist . He has also appeared in court, hasnt he . Appeared in court, hasnt he . Thats riuht. I appeared in court, hasnt he . Thats right i mean. Appeared in court, hasnt he . Thats right. I mean, since appeared in court, hasnt he . Thats right. I mean, since the appeared in court, hasnt he . Thats right. I mean, since the national right. I mean, since the national Security Law was introduced, More than 100 people have been arrested under the law. When it was first introduced, the authorities said only a small number of people would be targeted, they said the people who were organising the protest, perhaps violent individuals that were responsible for much of the movement in 2019. But what we have seen since the introduction of the law is quite a wide range of people have been arrested, protesters like Tong Ying Kit who was sentenced today, but also individuals like benny tai, a legal professor, and there have been journalists and benny tai, a legal professor, and there have beenjournalists and even students arrested under the law. Many activists will say that the law is targeting a wide range of people, they would say since the law was introduced over a year ago, the very fabric of this society is essentially changing. The authorities would say that this law has done what it was expected to do, at least in their eyes, and that was to silence the protest movement, to bring stability back to this financial hub, but many people will also fear that the Cases Today will set a precedent, because there are More than 100 people arrested. Today we have seen the first person sentenced, the mood throughout the city is that the sentencing is relatively harsh, and it might send a message to other people, dissidents and people that choose to speak out against the authorities here. ,. ,. ,. , speak out against the authorities here. ,. ,. ,. , here. 0k, danny, good to talk to ou, here. 0k, danny, good to talk to you. Thanks lets return to Team Gbs Gold Medal performance, and some tremendous Bmx Racing at the olympics in tokyo. 22 year old Beth Shriever won the womens final, and Kye White took silver in the mens event. In the pool, Duncan Scott won silver in the 200m individual medley, his third medal of the games, and there was a Bronze for Luke Greenbank in the 200m backstoke. And in rowing, the mens eight also won Bronze. We have also seen the start of action on the track, and the legendary middle Distance Runner and Gold Medallist Steve cram is at the games in tokyo, great to have you with us, we have already had some heats on the track this morning, and i would like some pointers from you about who we should look out for in Team Gb in terms of medal prospects. It is going to be tough, i am glad we are doing so well everywhere else, but athletics has to try to step up, it is always tough to win medals in the Athletics Programme, we dont win many, maybe 4 6, and Dina Asher Smith was in action this morning in the first round of the 100 metres, we are all looking to her to hopefully do what she did at the World Championships and went to micron medals. I have to say that your opposition looked absolutely fabulous, the defending champion and previous two time champion, both from jamaica, shelly Ann Fraser Pryce and elaine thompson herah, but it was the first round, and i think the 200 is her best chance, which will come later in the week. Katarina johnson thompson, we will be looking out for her as well. The women are generally strong, Laura Muir in the 1500, three athletes in the womens 800 metres, two certainly have a great chance, going through to the semifinals, Keely Hodgkinson and jemma reekie. In the field, Holly Bradshaw in the pole vault. The relays will always be good, men and women, looking strong, so fingers crossed we will get a few medals. I must ask you about your event, you won silver in the 1500 metres in 1984, we were so dominant at middle distance running, who should we be looking out for, though, this time . ~. ,. , , we be looking out for, though, this time . ~. ,. , , time . Well, on the womens side, laura time . Well, on the womens side, Laura Muir. Time . Well, on the womens side, Laura Muir, having time . Well, on the womens side, Laura Muir, having had time . Well, on the womens side, Laura Muir, having had her time . Well, on the womens side, Laura Muir, having had her wholel Laura Muir, having had her whole career coming very close, i think she has got a great opportunity this time. On the mens side, it is so good to see Jake Wightman and Josh Kerr right up in the world rankings, so 1500 can often be tactical, and there is a hot favourite, two, Timothy Cheruiyot and ingebrigtsen, but one of our guys could sneak in and get a medal. And in the 800, we have got some great talent, Ollie Dustin from the borders, in cumbria, a bright new challenge, he has broken seb coes record recently, ran third in the world going into this, a phenomenal place to be for yourfirst olympics. So not this, a phenomenal place to be for your first olympics. So not quite the glory days coming back, but hopeful signs we could do well. I keep hearing all the commentators saying it is a fast track, what does that mean . I perhaps rather foolishly assumed that they are all made the same, is that not the case . Not quite, i could give you a masterclass on how they are put together, but basically, it is often together, but basically, it is often to do with the Rubber Surface and the type of surface, different companies do different things, and some tracks can be faster forced printers with less rubber, if they are harder, and that is not so good for Distance Runners. So they try to balance it out. I think you have probably heard More about shoes these days, particularly at middle distance and the sprinting, some of that technology is helping people run fast as well. It is a combination of those things. And the conditions are good for sprint is, they like The Warm weather, and if it stays dry, particularly in the sprints, i think we will see some good performances. This sprints, i think we will see some good performances. Sprints, i think we will see some good performances. This is a stadium that would normally good performances. This is a stadium that would normally hold good performances. This is a stadium that would normally hold 68,000 i that would normally hold 68,000 people, it is going to be largely empty. As a runner and an athlete, what sort of impact might that have, no crowds . Yellow i dont think it really has any impact, i am sorry to say, i think it really has any impact, i am sorry to say. I thin say, i think it adds to any occasion. Say, i think it adds to any occasion, and say, i think it adds to any occasion, and particularly say, i think it adds to any i occasion, and particularly for anyone who was there, and athletes do love and atmosphere, but you could see from the performances this morning, you know, some people running the quickest times they have ever run, we had a hatful of national records, Daryll Neita run quicker than Dina Asher Smith, under 11 seconds for the first time. So Athletes Response to the occasion and the opposition much More than they do perhaps to having a crowd or not. They run their whole careers in stadia that dont have many people watching, so they are used to it, they are very good at focusing on what they have to do, and whether there is a big crowd, which can sometimes upset people, or no crowd at all, i think for the Better athlete it doesnt phase them at all. I think we are going to have a fantastic Athletics Programme here. Fascinating insight, great to talk to, steve cram, many thanks. Now its time for a look at the weather with Matt Taylor. Hello. Storm evert brought 50 70 mph gusts across the South West of england through the night, not quite as windy as that through the rest of the day, but through the English Channel and the southern edge of our low system we could see winds touch 40 50 mph. North of it, though, winds much lighter, but Bands Of Rain Spiralling around that area of low pressure, so rain on and off for england and wales, some of it heavy and thundery. Sunshine in between, the Dampest Conditions with the cloud remaining in place for much of the day for parts of Northern England. Scotland, Northern Ireland, winds much, much lighter here. If you heavy showers, particularly towards fermanagh and across the South East of scotland. But if you get some sunshine in those light winds, not too bad. But overall, a rather cool day for the stage injuly. Area of low pressure, then, push us off towards denmark tonight, taking most of the showers with it. There will be a few continuing through the night, so temperatures no lower than around 10 15 degrees for many. But as we go into the weekend and beyond, we stay with the rather cool theme, temperatures down where they should be, sunshine and showers this weekend, a little bit drier for the start of next week. And she made it safely through with a solid time of 11. 07 seconds, finishing behind american, teahna daniels. Looks like she is saving herself for the Semi Finals on saturday. You want to come out in the heats and get a place for the next round and get a place for the next round and do a solid run at the same time without doing too much, because you know you have another level to go tomorrow, so i am happy to have come out here and on that this morning. Some breaking news, because the number of Drug Deaths in scotland has just been announced and it has risen to a Record Level for the seventh year in a row. What is it about scotland, why is it such a particular problem there . The roblem such a particular problem there . Tte problem of such a particular problem there . Tte problem of drugs is multifactorial and will be a complex set of circumstances leading to the situation we are in but it goes right back to the late 1970s, the 19805 right back to the late 1970s, the 1980s and the economic recession. It is thought that scotland was hit particularly badly by deindustrialisation after The War, worse than other parts of the country and we have had probably a bit of a disastrous Housing Policy since that time which has broken up communities and because Housing Schemes to deteriorate in terms of living circumstances for people and over the last ten years we have seen rising levels of poverty as a result of the economic downturn in 2007, and ten years of austerity from the Uk Conservative led governments which has undermined public services are made treatment services far less available to people so its a combination of those factors. Aha, combination of those factors. A combination of those factors. A combination of those factors. A combination of social and economic factors. The Scottish Government has announced quarter of £1 billion to be invested over five years. Theres clearly no one single answer to this, but what sort of things might help improve the situation . That Reinvestment Help improve the situation . That reinvestment in help improve the situation . Tngt Reinvestment in treatment services and support services is really welcome. And there is also money going in to support individuals and families affected by Drug Use. There is money going into support people with lived and living experience of Drug Use to raise the voice of those people in terms of Shaping Policy and hopefully shaping services and the delivery of services, so those things are really positive and to be welcomed. I think we need to have an understanding, as i said that Drug Dependency is a long Term Problem and needs long term solutions and decriminalisation is of Drug Use for personal use would be a hugely positive step forward, so rather than punishing people for a long term Health Condition we would help reduce the stigma and encourage people into Treatment And Support. That investment with Treatment And Support services needs to take a Harm Reduction Approach to meet people where they are and provide passionate, Humane Care and we need to be accessible and going out to where people are for those that struggle to access services centrally and we need a full range of Treatment Options which includes opiate Substitute Treatment such as methadone, longeracting opiate Substitute Treatment such as methadone, longer acting versions and injectable versions of those sort and for those that dont benefit from that we need to be able to offer heroin assisted treatment and we need to have Detox Facilities for those wanting to move towards abstinence and we need residential units that would include Rehab Units but also stabilisation units to enable people to have safe places to 90, enable people to have safe places to go, to stabilise their Mental Health and their lives and to look at getting into treatments and get opiate Substitute Treatment. Hundreds of soldiers from the australian Defence Force are to be deployed onto the streets of sydney to help police ensure that residents observe Stay At Home restrictions as covid 19 infections continue to rise. Our correspondent in sydney, shaimaa khalil, says the problem of australias low Vaccination Takeup is becoming increasingly acute. It is the availability of the vaccine, the fact that there has been so much mixed messaging around astrazeneca that not many people have gone forward for weeks. Also remember, this is a country where for the longest time life had gone back to near normal. As recently as may. There was not that push in the beginning to get people to get vaccinated because people felt there wasnt an urgency. Now of course with the situation in New South Wales going from bad to worse, there is a Big Push from the government to get people vaccinated but numbers are nowhere near when they need to be, only 17 of the population is vaccinated. Here in New South Wales, we have seen the biggest spike yesterday, 239 cases in one day. That is the biggest notjust in this outbreak but since beginning of the pandemic for New South Wales. Today it is about 170 but this is after five weeks of lockdown, which has been extended to another four weeks. On top of that, there are eight areas in the west and South West of sydney that have been identified as hotspots. This is going to be where the police and the army presence, the heavy army presence, where we will find it concentrating most. They are going to be on the streets but also knocking on doors to make sure people Stay At Home. There has been criticism that has been heavy handed. Authorities are saying this is one of the crucial ways to make sure people abide by the rules and abide by the lockdown. Israel will become the first country in the world to offer a third dose of a Western Coronavirus vaccine, on a wide scale. People over 60 will be able to get the top up starting on sunday. Israel was one of the fastest countries in the world to vaccinate its population with the first two doses. Some nightclubs in england have begun requiring an Nhs Covid Pass for entry, even though it will not be mandatory to prove your Vaccine Status to get in until september. I think its easier to follow the government guidelines and if we are being told everybody has to bring it in, theres a lack of confusion and it saves people not understanding the situation and that is what we should do. The star of the Marvel Superhero Film black widow , scarlettjohansson, is suing the Walt Disney Company over its simultaneous release of the movie in cinemas and on its streaming service. Msjohannson alleges the Action Cost her millions of dollars. She said The Way the film was distributed breached her contract. Disney says the lawsuit has no merit. Earlier i asked Entertainment Journalist Kj Matthews why this lawsuit is so significant. Scarlettjohansson is the highest paid actress in hollywood and, really, the kind of contract that she had is really no different from all the other a list stars. Generally, when they negotiate, they negotiate for a percentage of the Box Office profits. That means the More people go to the Box Office, the More money they make. Here is the problem. We are living in a pandemic and what she is saying is that many of the studios, Notjust Marvel and disney, they decided to have dual releases, meaning it comes out in the theatre and also on the streaming platform. For that, she wanted them to come back to her and say, lets renegotiate because when we negotiated before the pandemic, we thought this film would exclusively open in the theatre. And thats not the case now. She never got the opportunity to renegotiate, according to her lawyers and because of that she is not going to make as much money. Brenda emmanus, Bbc News. Now its time for a look at the weather with Matt Taylor hello. Not the ideal Weather Day for those on holiday in the uk at the moment. For latejuly it is cool and rather blustery for some and four others quite wet. Stormy and reached our Shores Tonight and under the curl of cloud across the far South West, the area of low pressure pushing east and the strongest winds remain through the southern counties of england and wales, 40 or 50 miles an hour possible around the English Channel but further north the wind is much lighter and for england and wales it is a story of The Rain being on and off through the day, some heavy and thundery bursts and spirals of Rain Pushing Eastward Sunshine in between and staying cloudy for Northern England this afternoon and damp in the North East in the driest and brightest in scotland and Northern Ireland but even here one or two showers. The winds are also light so in the study are moments you wont feel bad but overall for late July Temperatures way down on where you want to be, the high teens and the low 20s at the high teens and the low 20s at the highest. The area of low pressure tracks towards denmark through the night taking most of the showers with it but some will continue around the Coast Week where weak Weather Front will push with cloud across the east of scotland into North East england later. Temperatures should not drop away too much, around ten or 15 degrees but the Weather Front pushing southwards introduces slightly chillier air. We have an area of low pressure across scandinavia to start the weekend which is the remnants of the weekend which is the remnants of the storm, and this is what we will see, a Northerly Airflow the storm, and this is what we will see, a northerly Air Flow across the country meaning things stay on the Cool Side with temperatures lower than where we would expect for late july. There will be dry and sunny weather, farfrom a july. There will be dry and sunny weather, far from a wash out, but when we see the showers, particular saturday, they could be heavy and thundery and its across parts of england and wales, the southernmost counties will develop in the afternoon and they could align into afternoon and they could align into a band and the same across yorkshire and lincolnshire. Fairly cloudy across the North East of england with further spots of rain and heavy showers hereunder elsewhere but a bit of sunshine between. Not going to do a massive amount of the temperature, between 14 and 21 celsius at its highest. In two sunday the cool conditions continue. Weak Weather Fronts pushing south could bring outbreaks of rain to Northern England then the midlands. Heavy, maybe thundery showers in the southernmost counties but some of the cloud will break up and we will see sunny spells but a bit of a struggle to lift temperatures above 20 degrees. Thats how its looking. See you soon. Im Lucy Hockings live in tokyo, with all the latest on the medals and records at the games.
