A jury has Found that Teenager Bernadette Walker, who went missing in Peterborough One year ago, was murdered by the man she called dad. The un says record numbers of afghan civilians, many of them children, have been killed in the first half of this year. About half the country is under taliban control. And coming up, could Canterbury Cathedral be the home to some of the oldest Stained Glass in The World . New research suggests it dates back nearly 900 years good afternoon. Its been a great day for Team Gb at the tokyo olympics, with three Gold Medals and two silvers. In the pool, Tom Daley and his Partner Matty Lee took the gold with an emotional victory in the mens 10 metre Synchronised Diving. It was third time lucky for 27 year old tom, after bronze at the last two olympics. There was another Gold Medal in the Mens Mountain Bike cross country event. Tom pidcock with the victory, just two months after breaking his collarbone. Earlier, the swimmer Adam Peaty won Team Gb s first Gold Medal In Tokyo, with victory in the 100 metres breast stroke. The 26 year old finished in just under 57. 4 seconds, the fifth fastest time in the events history. Hes become the first british swimmer to retain an olympic title. Overnight, Team Gb also secured another Silver Medal, thanks to Alex Yee in the Mens Triathlon. And in the last few minutes, Lauren Williams was just pipped for the gold in her Taekwondo Final. But britain isnt the only country celebrating a good day at the games. Momiji nishiya made history at the Age Ofjust 13, as she became the first womens olympic street skateboarding champion. Lets get a Round Up of all the action from andy swiss. Tom daley, olympic champion. Its the words he has waited a lifetime for. As he wiped away the tears ofjoy, it seemed even he could scarcely believe it. Some 13 years after his debut, this games seemed his last realistic chance of gold, in partnership with olympic debutant Matty Lee. Yes, yes, yes, yes a string of near flawless dives meant they lead going into the final round, but could they hold their nerve . 0h yes, its brilliant there is your answer. Celebrations all round, but it wasnt over yet. China, the favourites, could still deny them. And a brilliant last dive meant an agonising wait for daley and lee, until, finally, gloriously, this. Yes it was the stuff of sporting dreams. And olympic champions, great britain. After so many years of striving for this moment, the emotions overflowed. To finally have this Gold Medal around my neck, after so many. I mean, i have been diving for 20 years. This is my fourth Olympic Games, and lots of people would have probably counted me out of this olympics, being the older person. But im in the best shape, physically, mentally, and then to hear the national anthem play, i was gone. I couldnt even sing, i was blubbering. Ijust, yeah, Ijust Cant believe it. It has been some journey. From a 14 year old prodigy at the beijing games, daley has grown up in the public glare. And leading the celebrations back home was his husband, Dustin Lance black later tweeted, no words, so many tears, you are an olympic champion. And britain has another champion in Mountain Biking. Less than two months ago, Tom Pidcock broke his collarbone. Fair to say you wouldnt have guessed it, as he raced clear of his rivals. He even had time to celebrate in style. Tom pidcock takes gold In Tokyo. The 21 year old, who prepared for tokyos temperatures in a heated tent at his home in leeds, it almost defied belief. Yeah, its incredible. Everyone works so hard for the olympics. And now i am here. Its unbelievable, really. Meanwhile, there was drama at the start of the triathlon, as a boat blocked about half the athletes. They all had to go again. And when they did, it was norways blummenfelt who led them home, followed by Alex Yee. The 23 year old taking a Silver Medal which astounded even him. Its bizarre really, that it is me that is doing this, im just a normal guy from south east london. Its crazy that dreams really do come true. Its amazing. And Team Gb are also guaranteed another medal in the taekwondo, with Lauren Williams through to her final later on. An already glittering day for Team Gb could soon get even better. So lets Take A Look at the current latest medal table. The us is out in front, with seven golds so far. Just behind is china and japan. In fourth place, great britain, with all the golds so far just from today. But of course, very, very early Days at the moment. Well have more on all the olympic action in our Sports Bulletin Ataround 2. 30. Senior ministers are meeting to discuss whether to expand the scheme which allows fully vaccinated Key Workers in england to avoid Self Isolation by taking daily covid tests instead. Staff working in the food supply chain, in front Line Emergency services, and in Transport And Freight are already included. Ministers could add other workers to the list, or boost the numbers for existing sectors. Theo leggett reports. The Test And Trace system and the Covid App were meant to help control the spread of the coronavirus. But for businesses and other organisations, the so called pingdemic has become a nightmare of staff shortages. Last week, the government took action to protect food supplies. It said workers at some 500 sites involved in Food Production and distribution would be able to avoid isolation if they got pinged, and could take daily tests instead. That move has been welcomed by some. Knowing that we are in scope as well is really great, because it means that businesses who have been affected by the pandemic can actually plan for any colleagues that go off, whereas previously if somebody had been pinged, they might have had a whole team of people wiped out, which would be really difficult to plan for the supply of Food And Drink for the next three weeks. But others are less impressed, because they say the Government Hasnt been clear enough about who is included in the scheme, and how it wilL Actually work. We dont even know if we are included as one of the 500 companies. If we were included, we dont know how the testing is going to operate, so to be honest with you, we havent got a clue. But this isntjust a problem for the food industry. Transport networks have been hit as well. Many Railway Companies have had to cancel services because they cant get enough drivers. Emergency services have been hit, and pubs and restaurants have had to close because they cant get enough staff. There are exemptions available for a small number of fully vaccinated critical workers in sectors such as energy, watersupply, medicines, Emergency Services and border control. But the system has been criticised as too narrow, and the government is under pressure to extend it, before a much wider relaxation of Isolation Rules comes in on august 16th. So, what we are saying to the most critical worker sectors is exactly that, so that is the fire, police, border control, certain parts of the food sector, that if you have had that double vaccination and indeed the two weeks after you have had your second vaccination. But not the trains, he told us he told us it was chaos, the boss of the rmt. Certain elements of transport they have been looking at, to give that flexibility. But businesses say they cant wait that long, and warn that if the Rules Arent eased sooner, the damage to them and their customers will mount up. Theo leggett, Bbc News. The number of new covid infections has fallen for five Days in a row for the first time since february. There were just over 29,000 cases yesterday, compared with more than a8,000 last week. So that probably send numbers higher than they would otherwise have been. Obviously in the last few weeks, we have not had the last few weeks, we have not had the euro is going on, and we have had schools broken up for summer holiDays, so both of those factors probably seeing this artificial peak as it were drop out of the data, the question of course is, does that mean the numbers continue going down for the foreseeable future, or are we dropping down to a new normal which is higher than we were at a couple of months ago . Obviously all the Media Attention on the opening was on the groups of youngsters queueing to get into nightclubs, that only a tiny part of the opening. Lots more people of different Age Groups will be starting to come back into shops, restaurants, what that kind of thing, as well as coming back to work, so we will not see a sudden spike in cases from the opening but it could potentially muddy the waters over the coming weeks and months. ,. , waters over the coming weeks and months. ,. , ,. , months. The British Medical Association is to ask senior doctors in england whether they want to consider industriaL Action over the 3 Pay Rise offered by the government. The Doctors Union the bma previously said Strike Action would be considered if consultants were not given at least a 5 increase. And i think you can see that across the public Sector Pay Review bodies. So it is a bigger problem thanjust Sector Pay Review bodies. So it is a bigger problem than just doctors. The panels have been Re Dated using a new device developed by scientists that can be used on site without damaging the glass. The new dating indicates that the Windows Wouldnt have been in place when the archbishop of the time, Thomas Becket, was assassinated at the cathedral in 1170. Our science correspondent, pallab ghosh, has this report. Canterbury cathedral is among the oldest churches in england. Inside, its stunning windows depict symbolic religious scenes. This series was thought to have been made in the 13th century, but some of the panels, including this one of the prophet nathan, have now been Re Dated. For decades, historians of thought that some of these panels were made earlier than the others because they are different in style. Now, using a new technique, scientists have confirmed that not only are we much older, but they may well be among the oldest in The World. It has only come to light now because of this device, called a windowliser to stop it may not look like much, but it was developed by scientists to be used on location without damaging the glass. It signs a beam onto the surface, which causes the material inside to radiate. This radiation contains a chemicalfingerprint, from radiate. This radiation contains a chemical fingerprint, from which the researchers worked out its age. Much quieter this afternoon, some show s around, but for most of us, a dry day, quite e 11, to come Up To around 25 celsius, but whether already circling the uk, and you can see some rain moving into Northern Ireland through the evening and overnight, and an area of heavy showery rain moving into South Western parts of the uk. Showery means on and off, on and off, and at Times Heavy. You can see through the Morning Plenty of dry weather around us well, so i think coastal areas, especially in the east and the North East Tomorrow, will fare best, whereas in land, we are in for those heavy downpours, and again, some of them will be thundery in places. Temperatures a little cooler than of late. Hello, this is Bbc News. The headlines an historic win for Adam Peaty on day three of the games In Tokyo he becomes the first ever british swimmer to successfully defend an olympic title. Jubilation for Tom Daley with his new diving Partner Matty Lee. Four Olympic Games and hes finally won gold. And gold for mountain biker Tom Pidcock, less than two months after breaking his collarbone in a training crash. Elsewhere, ministers are meeting to decide if more Key Workers in england will be given the option of Daily Testing, instead of self isolating. The bma is to ask senior doctors in england if they want to consider industriaL Action over the 3 Pay Rise offered by the government. We will have more on those stories throughout the afternoon here on Bbc News. Sport now, and for all the olympic action lets cross to the bbc Sports Centre and austin halewood. Well, what a day its been for Team Gb. Three golds so far on day three and after 13 years of trying, britains Tom Daley finally has an olympic Gold Medal around his neck. He won the mens synchronised 10 metre platform competition, with his Partner Matty Lee. The pair dived impeccably throughout, moving top of the leaderboard after four dives, before going on to expertly handle all the nerves and pressure in their final two routines. In a nail biting finale, the british pair watched on as the chinese duo made theirfinal dive. Daley and lee then broke into wild celebrations when it became clear, theyd ended chinas Golden Grip on the event, dating back to 2000. I have been diving now for 20 years and this is my fourth Olympic Games and lots of people probably would have counted me out at this olympics being the older person but im in the best shape physically and mentally. The moment stood behind that rostum over there and about to be announced as olympic champions and then to hear the national anthem play, i was gone, i couldnt even sing. I was halfway singing and i was blubbering. I just. Yeah, i cant believe it. The run of golds started in the early hours of this morning though as Adam Peaty made history in the pool, becoming the first british swimmer to defend their olympic title. He won the 100 Metres Breaststroke once again and the World Record Holder really blew away the competition in a perfectly executed swim. Peaty finished in a time of 57. 37 seconds, six tenths clear of The Field. Speaking afterwards, he admitted hed gone through a tough time, but it had all been worth it. I havent felt this good since 2016. Itjust means The World to me. I didnt have the. I thought i had the best preparation of my life but then the morning finals, it goes out the window. Thats really what it takes to be an athlete, not who is the best all year round, its the best on the day, best person on the day who is the most adaptable. And the third Gold Medal came from an unexpected source. Team gbs Tom Pidcock in the mens cross country Mountain Biking. In hot and humid conditions, the 21 year old from leeds dominated, leading the race from halfway onwards. He finished a clear 20 seconds ahead the rest of The Field, with a number of Road Cycling teams now reportedly interested in his future. I dont blame them. And the Win Today came just two months after pidcock broke his collarbone in a collision with a car while out training. It hasnt been a dream that long but i have worked so hard for it and it has been the end of the path for such a long time. Yeah, i cant imagine how it would feel to build up four years for this event because it was bloody stressful enough with less than a year it is unbelievable, really. In the last hour, Team Gb have added another silver to their tally. 22 year old Lauren Williams winning it in the under 67 Kilo Category of the womens taekwondo. She was beaten in the final though by croatias Matea Jelic. Another dramatic final at these tokyo games. Williams was leading going into the last few moments of the final round, but had the gold snatched from her in the last few moments. The first medal of day three came in the Mens Triathlon with great britains Alex Yee taking the silver in sweltering conditions, as norways kristian blummenfelt claimed gold. Yee had led for much of the 10k run, in his debut games, before blummenfelt pushed through to breakaway and take the gold. Britains Jonny Brownlee came fifth. Were still in the group stages of the hockey. Earlier Today Gb men won 3 1 against canada, gb women, the defending champions, came from behind to beat South Africa 4 1. Despite conceding in the 31st minute, great britain went on to score four in reply with a much stronger performance in the second half. The fourth goal came from Ellie Rayer to seal the win. So thats one win and one defeat so far and they play india next. And theres been more to celebrate for the hosts on day three with their second gold of the games in the skateboarding. And this one went to a 13 year old Momiji Nishiya winning the womens street event. So thats two golds from two forjapan in the skateboarding one of the new sports at these games. And it was a youthful podium too the average agejust 14, with japan taking bronze too. The british mens gymnasts have taken to the floor for the Team Final you can keep Up To date with Max Whitlock and the rest of Team Gb on the Bbc Sport website. Thats all the sport for now. We will give you a Gold Medal for getting through all that so quickly and we will see you a bit later. Thank you. The number of civilian deaths in afghanistan has surged since taliban militants launched their offensive against government forces thats according to figures from the united nations. The insurgents have captured vast swathes of rural territory, after foreign troops began their withdrawal from the country. Our afghanistan Correspondent Secunder Kermani has the latest. 1600 civilians were killed in the first six months of this year, what is more than three and a half thousand injured. That includes a record high number of child casualties and it is amongst the highest figures of that period to ever be recorded since records began a little over a decade ago. Kit it can be a little difficult at times to fully comprehend those figures, but it means basically on average, every day these nine ordinary men, Women And Children in afghanistan lost their lives as a result of the conflict. Violence really spiked in may and june when the taliban began an offensive that has seen them capture around half of all territory in afghanistan. The united nations said the taliban were responsible for more civilian casualties than any other party to the conflict in this latest report. There is real fear that the violence is only going to get worse. The un is warning if the current trends continue, this year will end up being the deadliest ever recorded for civilians in afghanistan, particularly concerned about the fact that so far, most of the fighting has been in more rural areas in afghanistan but the taliban now seem to be turning their attention increasingly towards afghan cities of course where they are more densely populated areas. So if there is a protracted fighting, as many fear there will be, they will see even more bloodshed. A speech at a Protest Rally that likened nhs nurses and doctors to nazis executed after World War two has been widely condemned. Former Nurse Kate shemirani made the remarks at the event in trafalgar square, which was billed as a live debate on covid 19. The mayor of london is among those urging the police to look at what she said, and the royal College Of Nursing said it could put nurses at risk. The metropolitan police says it is investigating. Our Specialist Disinformation Reporter Mariana Spring joins me now. Good to see you. Explain a bit more about the protests and the former nurse who made these comments . These protest began over a year ago as anti lockdown at rallies and they have pivoted their attention to vaccines, posing vaccine restrictions, vaccine passports, but also become muddled with these very extreme online Conspiracy Theories that have been spreading on a Social Media and also on at messaging apps like telegram where a lot of these protests are organised. At the rally at the weekend, we also saw how some of the violent threats and language that are being used by people on these channels are manifesting off line too. Discussion of executions, discussion of War Trials and Nuremberg Trials directed at medics, journalists and politicians. We have seen a number of people have asked off line set, but it does not make it less shocking. What the former nurse said at the weekend has sparked outcry because people are so worried about the applications of it. She was suspended and then struck off by the nursing a body quite recently and she has built a big following over the course of the pandemic by promoting Conspiracy Theories and falsehoods about coronavirus and about the vaccine. I actually interviewed her son last year when he told me all about the fears he had for her impact on Public Health and their relationship. Now he is speaking out again because hes so worried some of this violent language she is using could inspire other people to act out. Ii using could inspire other people to act out. ,. , act out. He feels as though his mother is perhaps too late to help, but he would like to help other people who have been affected by conspiracies and lots of experts are warning that these groups are being exploited by Extremist Actors and being radicalised to violence in a way that we were not seen before. Going forward, the big concern is that something valid could happen, more violent thanjust words, something valid could happen, more violent than just words, and also that a lot of these people are turning to other conspiracies, whether about Climate Change or different topics for many of the protesters and speakers, it is about a lot more than a covid 19 and defender sebastien, it is about his family, very close to home, and he had this to say about what he think his mother is doing it. It is in part impossible to talk someone when they have that weve seen Extreme Weather this year around the globe, with floods in parts of europe and asia, and wildfires raging in the us and canada. It lends an urgency to a virtual meeting being held by The Worlds leading Climate Scientists to hammer out the details of the most important un assessment of Climate Change since 2013. It will be used at the Cop26 Summit in glasgow, which is less then 100 Days away. Our Environment Analyst Roger harrabin has more. Extreme temperatures and drought are fuelling more wild fires in northern california. Fire is threatening spain, too. The catalonia regions facing one of its worst blazes in years. Similar scenes on the italian island of sardinia, an out of Control Fire after a heatwave. Scientists have long warned that Climate Change would make Extreme Weather worse. The reason why people realise that Climate Change is happening is because they see it all around The World. We have Extremer Weather events in every single country in The World. The science is very clear, the scientists have always been very clear on what is Climate Change, how it is caused and how we can deal with it. Non, non, non, non in belgium, heavy rainfall has caused more flooding. Less than a fortnight after deadly Flash Floods across western europe. A typhoon is battering china, Days after severe flooding killed dozens of people. Warmer Air Temperatures allow the atmosphere to hold more moisture. That contributes to more extreme rain. In geneva, governments are meeting to study the latest science on Climate Change. How bad Will Warming be . How fast will it progress . Meanwhile, In London, as floodwaters streamed into a Train Station and turned roads into rivers, ministers from more than 50 countries met to lay the Ground Work for novembers vital climate summit in glasgow. This was the message from the british host. We are seeing in every part of The World, on each of our doorsteps, what happens when Climate Change gets out i of control, and so what i hope that we have at this meeting i is an opportunity for us to shape | the vision of the final outcomes| from cop26 in glasgow, and to build that unity. Of purpose amongst the ministers to deliver that. World leaders are under pressure to phase out Coal Power and to set more ambitious targets on emissions, although that wont always be popular with voters. They can only commit to, or it doesnt matter what they commit to, if they cant get that through their parliament, so there is a very complex process behind all this. There is a continuing mismatch between science and policy. Some scientists fear that with just 1. 2 degrees of heating now, The World might already have entered a phase of dangerous Climate Change. Roger harrabin, Bbc News. Thanks for watching Bbc News. The headlines on Bbc News. Adam peaty becomes the first ever british swimmer to successfully defend an olympics title. And, the un says record numbers of afghan civilians, many of them children, have been killed in half of this year. Labour has launched a new campaign for working people, in an attempt to win back some of their traditional supporters who switched to the conservatives in the last general election. Deputy leader Angela Rayner set out the Partys Vision for a Post Pandemic Britain with what she called good quality jobs and proper wages. The conservatives say that they have protected millions ofjobs through the furlough scheme, raised the national living wage, and reduced unemployment. The Shadow Secretary for the future of work, Angela Rayner, explained what labours new deal for working people is and why she thinks all workers should be paid a minimum of £10 a minimum of £10 per hour. People in Britain Shouldnt have to go to work and really struggle to feed their families and support themselves in very low paid, insecure work. So today is about making sure that everybody gets rights from Day One in employment, can have the right for Flexible Working, notjust for the employer but for the employees as well, who have done so much on adapting and working from home over this period, and making sure everybody has a minimum of at least £10 an hour real living wage. I think that would really boost our economy, but also give people some security respecting work. We think that is the absolute minimum people should expect. A few specifics, Flexible Working, that is a right rather than a request . So it would have to be granted under your plan . Unless there is an exceptional reason why they cant. If we look at what has happened during the pandemic, many people who were told before they could work not from home or they could not possibly work flexibly have been incredibly flexible over this period. I know a lot of employers are very appreciative of the staff who have done that but what we want to do is make sure there is a real Work Life Balance to people with the right to switch off and people have the right to request Flexible Working and that should be granted, unless there are exceptional circumstances as to why that shouldnt be. Revenue losses at Heathrow Airport have increased to £2. 9 billion, as the Airport Saw the same number of passengers in the first six months of 2021 as it did in just 18 Days in 2019. Heathrow has welcomed changes to the Governments Traffic Light system, but warned passengers were being put off due to expensive Testing Requirements for travel. John Holland Kaye is Heathrow Airports chief executive. We are talking about the Pcr Tests here which are required for anyone coming into the uk and the reason we are told we need them is so the government can carry out Genomic Sequencing tests on them. But the fact is only 2 of those tests are actually genomically sequenced, so it is a huge waste of money for very little benefit. A better way would be to use the cheaper lateral Flow Tests which have very high levels of accuracy and only if you test positive to then go and have an expensive Pcr Test and that would just make it easier for all of us to go about our normal business, and this is exactly what we do in our everyday life and what our kids do at schools. Ryanair says it expects to carry Nine Million passengers this month almost double the number forjune. The lifting of Travel Restrictions across the uk and europe has helped the Budget Airline to increase the number of flights it operates, following a surge in bookings. But ryanair warned that it would still make a loss of more than £230 million for the first quarter of this year. Vintage, pre loved, or Second Hand whatever you call them, clothes that have had a previous owner are all the rage, largely due to concerns about sustainability. Now, in whats thought to be a first in the uk, a permanent Fashion Swap Shop for adults has opened In London. Swappers pay a Membership Fee to visit the store, and to exchange items they no longer want. Jonelle awomoyi has more. Id spend about £300 a month on clothing. One day i had a Girls Night at my house, and the girls came around and we were like, lets go out instead of stay in. Everybody started moving things around my wardrobe, and i saw them all pulling things and swapping amongst themselves. I saw this happen and just thought, if i have all these things in my wardrobe and my friend has all these things in her wardrobe, it means we all have this problem where we have all of these clothes that we are not using that could go to Somebody Else. Montana has opened a shop that runs on the basis of swapping instead of paying for goods. Swappers, rather than shoppers, can trade in their unloved clothes for Second Hand garments. Swap nation is thought to be the uks first permanent Fashion Swap Shop for adults. So ive brought three items, ok . So a mid tier next dress. You get a four overall for that. A celine blouse. It is a designer, which is eight tokens, and it is made out of silk, which is three, so overall it gets 13. A fast fashion top. It is made out of polyester, so youre only looking around two, three tokens for that. So four, seven, 13. Youve got 20. 20. And i can go across this whole shop and choose whatever id like . Take your time, browse, try them on, swap things in and out. Its Up To you. Ive just grabbed a really amazing vintage top that if you were going to buy it would easily be £60 to £70. I have been able to come here with three items that i dont wear and swap them. This is their first physical permanent store. As a long time fan, its really exciting for me. I wanted to be one of the first people through the doors today. Swapping fashion is a good way of keeping a circular economy and maintaining a very small but kind of personal styled wardrobe. You can still update it and things. Its been amazing. Sustainable fashion is becoming more and more popular. Swap nation is just one example of a company that markets Second Hand clothing, saving clothes from landfill and giving them a new life. There are enough clothes on the planet currently to clothe the next six generations of the human race. 70 of the clothes we buy today are synthetic, so they are made from fossil fuels. Clothing has a huge transport cost. Most of our clothes are made 5,000, 6,000 miles away. Every piece of clothing we have costs the planet. So, according to patrick, we need to consume less. But does swapping have to end with fashion . You could easily swap a Lawn Mower and then swap that back to Somebody Else because youve used it. You could do that within your community. That could definitely work as a business. Jonelle awomoyi, Bbc News. Parts of london are recovering after being hit by torrential downpours yesterday. A month of rain fell in three hours in some areas of the capital, leading to widespread flooding. Homes, roads and Tube Stations were badly affected, while two London Hospitals have asked patients to stay away. Firefighters took over 1,000 calls and had to rescue people from their cars. Heres our Environment Correspondent tom edwards. More like a river than a Dlr Station this was Pudding Lane last night as nearly two inches of rain fell in just a few hours. This was hampstead, as waters inundated roads. In Worcester Park in south london, firefighters had to rescue drivers from their cars, submerged in the flood waters. And at hammersmith, the Drainage System was overwhelmed, sending a fountain of water into the air. At leyton, there was also heavy Flash Flooding. And this was camberwell. This was tottenham in North London and this is the second time in a fortnight that parts of the capital have flooded. This morning, whipps Cross And Newham hospitals are asking patients to go to other hospitals if they can. And experts say as the climate warms, Extreme Weather will become more common and more severe. The amount of extreme rainfall is increasing and what we mean by extreme rainfall is the hourly rainfall, the daily total and also the multi day, three, four day totals, so those are the numbers that people look at when they look at extreme rainfall. And so we have a good bit of evidence from all over The World, where we have long records that these have been increasing, so we are getting more rain in a given amount of time. I think the reason why people realise that Climate Change is happening is because they see it all around The World. We have Extreme Weather events in every single country in The World. The science is very clear, the scientists have always been very clear on what is Climate Change, how it is caused and how we can deal with it. London has been warned that some of its crucial infrastructure like roads and Tube Stations are susceptible to flooding and experts say the capital has to be more proactive now in planning for these types of weather events. Tom edwards, bbc london. Some pretty extreme rain fell yesterday across london and the south, Tomasz Schafernacker is here with the weather. And tomasz, how unusual was the Rainfall Yesterday . Obviously in a short space of time, any amount of rainfall is not great, but we had particularly heavy downpours. I wanted to talk a little bit about how it gets to that point where we see all the Flash Floods. This week, we are going to have a troublesome week for short, more brainstorms on the way. This is the general pattern of the atmosphere at the moment. More rain storms. Dip in Thejet Stream there, the atmosphere over as is volatile, so a lot of rising air, especially in this area of low pressure that is sitting over us this week. The problem with this low pressure is that there is very little wind inside it, so whatever grows in there, whatever Storm Cloud grows in there, whatever Storm Cloud grows and that, does not really move an awful lot, itjust sits there and dumps all the rain in one place. The slow moving storms are bad news that bring torrential rain. They themselves can produce gusty winds, but the environment in which they thrive in has a lot of light, calm weather, so they do not move as much and you get these Flash Floods. Over the next few Days, you can see very showery weather. You could be checking your app to see whether these shows are coming your way. The chances are these symbols will change from our Tower And Day to day. Why does that happen . The focus to plot these showers as it thinks is current for the time and it plots it here or here or here or here. And your app updates. If you think that app is going to remain exactly the same for the next day or so, wrong. It is meant to update and give you the latest forecast. It is a bit like a prediction of how the traffic is going to float through a city also. The idea is to get that general overview for a day or a week that these showers will be over a general area and you can see, this is a tuesday and you can see lots of showers here and in fact i can tell you, there are no forecasters in The World that can predict a shower like that forming within ten or 20 miles, it will always be based on an area, a region. The thinking is through the week, thats low pressure will be there creating heavy showers, but to notice what happens on wednesday. More of a breeze to the south of this low pressure which means the showers here will post along a little quicker, so the heavy downpours will be transferred a little bit more towards the northern parts of the uk. Get ready for more big downpours this week. This is Bbc News. Im ben mundy. In hot and humid conditions, the 21 year old from leeds domminated, leading the race from halfway onwards. The ineos Grenadiers Riderfinished a clear 20 seconds ahead of the rest of The Field. And the Win Today came just two months after pidcock broke his collarbone in a collision with a car while out training. It hasnt been a dream that long, but i have worked so hard for it, and it has been the end of the path for such a long time. Yeah, i cant imagine how it would feel to build up four years for this event, because it was bloody stressful enough with less than a year it is unbelievable, really. In the last hour, Team Gb have added another silver to their tally. 22 year old Lauren Williams winning it in the under 67 Kilo Catergory of the womens taekwondo. She was beaten in the final, though, by croatias Matea Jelic. Another dramatic Taekwondo Final at these tokyo games. That does are, really, that it is me who is doing this. Im just a normal guy from south east london, so it is crazy, dreams really do come true. Bit bizarre, really. I knew that i could go that little extra bit. I felt as prepared as i could have been, and that is the best result i could have got on the day. And theres been more to celebrate for the hosts on day three with their second gold of the games in the skateboarding, and this one went to a 13 year old. Momiji nishiya winning the womens street event, so thats two golds from two forjapan in the skateboarding one of the new sports at these games. In olympic tennis, japans Naomi Osaka cruised into the third round of the womens singles with a win that only took 65 minutes over viktorija golubic. Osaka is the second seed, but also favourite for the Gold Medal now that Ashleigh Barty has been knocked out, in the first round. Osaka beat golubic in straight sets 6 3 6 2. It comes after she took an eight Week Break in the lead Up To the games in order to protect her Mental Health dropping out of the French Open and wimbledon. Thats all the sport for now. Senior ministers are meeting today to review the scheme that which allows fully vaccinated Key Workers in england to avoid Self Isolation by taking daily covid tests instead. Staff working in the food supply chain, in frontLine Emergency services, and in Transport And Freight are already included from today there are calls for workers from other sectors to be added. But not the trains, he told us it was chaos, the boss of the rmt. There were just over 29,000 cases yesterday, compared with more than 48,000 last week. Paul hunter is professor in medicine at the university of East Anglia and explained that this downtrend in cases doesnt come as a surprise to him. We saw case beginning to plateau in earlyjune, but We Saw a subsequent search associated with the early england game, so as the euro is finished, we would certainly expect to see less of a driver on Case Numbers. As the euros finished. And we are actually mirroring what happened in scotland a couple of weeks before us, where ten Days or so after their last game, Case Numbers started falling dramatically, and indeed hospitalisations are now declining in scotland as well. I suspect hospitalisations in the uk will peak sometime this week, probably tomorrow or wednesday, but then of course, come friday, well start seeing the effect of monday the 19th on cases, that as it bit more difficult to predict. Personally, i dont think we will see cases rising at the end of this week, but im not absolutely certain. But what i am more confident about is that, if we do see cases rising, it would be anywhere near as dramatic as people were concerned about is likely to be actually temporary, so even if we do start getting a surge, it wont, the speed of that Surge Wont last as long as weve in recent weeks, but wilL Actually start again plateauing out fairly quickly. Some coronavirus restrictions in Northern Ireland have been lifted. From today, Up To 15 people from different households can meet indoors, and close contact services such as hairdressers can reopen without needing to pre book an appointment. The Stormont Assembly will meet later to decide whether other measures can be eased, including the Re Opening of theatres and concert halls. Senior doctors in england are being asked today whether they would be prepared to take industriaL Action over the governments 3 pay offer. The Doctors Union the bma previously said Strike Action would be considered if consultants were not given at least a 5 increase. Last week the government raised its Pay Rise offer for most Nhs Staff in england from 1 to 3 , following a recommendation from an independent Pay Review Body. A new Compensation Fund is being set up for other potential victims of disgraced Breast Surgeon ian paterson. He is serving a 20 Year Prison Sentence after being Found guilty of wounding patients by carrying out unnecessary surgery on men and women. Patersons unregulated mastectomies meant many of his patients saw their cancer return. Others had surgery they did not need, including some who Found out years later they did not have cancer. He is serving 20 years in prison. A man has been Found guilty of murdering the teenage girl who called him herfather, after she claimed that he had sexually abused her over a number of years. Scott walker was convicted of the murder of 17 year old Bernadette Walker, who was not his biological daughter, following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court. Jon ironmonger reports. What happened to Bernadette Walker . She would be 18 now, but for the man she called dad, who vanished her away after she accused him of sexual abuse. Known as bea, to herfriends, bernadette was shy, and a budding photographer. We had the sort of relationship where we would mess about and reminisce about stuff, or randomlyjust Start Play Fighting. If she is gone, i will never have that again. It was a complicated family. One of the various siblings by different fathers, she took the surname of her mothers partner. He was like a man on the edge, the court heard, and Bernadettes Allegations were the final straw. Injuly last year, she messaged her mother. For a few years, dad has been Hiding Cameras in my bedroom, putting his hand up my top, making me do stuff. Her mother sarah was incredulous, and having collected bernadette from his parents house, scott turned his Phone Off for 90 minutes. It was then it is said that he killed her. Because of the lack of forensic evidence, i would guess some sort of smothering us regulation, but it is impossible to know until we actually find bernadette. We will continue to investigate everything that comes forward. Both defendants gave an account that bernadette got out of the car when scott got out to roll a cigarette, and walked away down this alleyw, leaving all her belongings behind. But rather than begin a Frantic Search for her, the pairs immediate reaction was to hack into E Mail accounts, change your password, and use her phone to send dozens of messages in her name. They moved in wicked web of lies, the court heard, even under police questioning. Sarah later claimed that scott had brainwashed her. The jury is still considering whether she knew her daughter was dead. In the Days after bernadettes appearance, scott made mysterious Twilight Trips to this lock up garage, and took sarah with him to a remote area of the fens. Police have searched both locations, but Bernadettes Body has never been Found. 20 years ago, it would be impossible to bring this case to court, but because of the digital footprint that was left, that it can tie an individual to particular locations. Scott was arrested in september, and gave five No Comment interviews. In court, he limped onto the Stand And Spoke of being disabled, with a back problem, but prosecutors said it was plain he was capable of strangling bernadette, filmed here dancing on the van he almost certainly used to transport her remains. Scott at least knows what happens to Bernadette Walker. Perhaps now he will finally give her up. The headlines on Bbc News Olympic Golds for divers Tom Daley and Matty Lee, swimmer Adam Peaty, and mountain biker Tom Pidcock on day three at the tokyo games. Ministers are meeting to decide if more Key Workers in england will be given the option of Daily Testing, instead of self isolating, when theyre contacted via Test And Trace and could Canterbury Cathedral be home to some of the oldest Stained Glass in The World . New research suggests it dates back nearly 900 years. Ministers and officials from more than 50 countries are holding climate talks, hosted In London by the president of the Cop26 Summit, alok sharma. High on the agenda is the demand from poorer countries that the rich world live Up To previous commitments to do more to help them fight Climate Change, and develop their economies in a sustainable way. Climate finance will huge issue in the run Up To cop26, which is taking place in glasgow in november will be a huge issue. Our Reality Check Correspondent Chris Morris explains whats at stake. Think about how hard it is going to be in the developing world, whether it is far less money to pay for new infrastructure in the first place, but theres an awful lot of people. It is a challenge which has been recognised for some time, as long ago as 2009, the developed world agreed it would provide 100 Billion agreed it would provide 100 Billion a year by 2020 to help poorer countries dealed the effects of Climate Change and build a greener economy is in the future. Well, 2020 has come and gone and experts agree the target has not been reached, even though a new and more ambitious target is supposed to be set for 2025. The world committed to 100 Billion per year for Climate Action in developing countries. It is critical that this commitment not only be honoured, but that the ambition be increased and major emitters should contribute more to its finance. Jamaica has great sprinters. We know that a great start does not guarantee a win. It requires momentum building. In this case, an accessible and equitable Climate Finance mechanism. For many countries around The World, this is the issue in the run Up To novembers cop26 climate summit in glasgow. So how short is the funding . It is quite hard to calculate what money should be included, because it is a complicated mix of public and some private finance. But the Un And Oecd estimates that by 2018, the total had reached nearly 79 Billion and it will not have got to 100 Billion by 2020. Between 2016 and 2018, 43 of the funding went to asia, 25 to africa and 17 to the americas, a lot of it spent on green Infrastructure Or Transport infrastructure. Within the g7, though, the countries that are supposed to provide this money, the united states and italy in particular have been lagging behind their promises. But a Big Push to increase the overall amount of money provided is certainly on. We have had many very key discussions about that in recent Days. I have personally spoken to the president about it. President biden has indicated to me he has complete and total commitment to helping make that happen. Let me just say from my point of view, if the west, the developed world, whatever you want to call the collaboration of larger economies, if they do not come together and produce that, it is going to be exceedingly hard to get any kind of broad based agreement. But here is a crucial point. By 2018, about three quarters of the public money made available for Climate Action in the developing world was in the form of loans that need to be paid back rather than grants that do not. The share of grants was higher to the very poorest countries, but still less than half the total. And that is a big problem in countries where the Covid Pandemic has made access to international funds even more pressing. Many countries are already heavily in debt and huge loans will make that problem worse. So, it is a critical issue and the message from The Worlds poor to rich countries in the run Up To the Glasgow Summit if you want ambitious climate targets, you are going to have to pay for them. Covid Infection Rates in the netherlands surged by more than 500 earlier this month, following the scrapping of almost all remaining lockdown restrictions and the reopening of nightclubs in late june. The big rise in infections has prompted a swift u turn, with nightclubs now closed until at least 13th of august. Anna holligan went to meet one band who had hoped to perform this weekend. This was meant to be this bands breakthrough year. We make dutch electronic synth pop. And its awesome. But with nightclubs closed, there has been no audience to see them in action. We had, like, 70 shows and they all got cancelled. And that was a big bummer. I already told my girlfriend i was going to pay the rent. Many feel as though they are being used as scapegoats by a state that keeps on changing direction. You cannot put this entire weight of responsibility on the youth of today. Thats just crazy. If you tell youth that you can go out, and you are going out, then you are punished for going out, that is very hard on us, on young people, and we shouldnt be in such a position. Earlier this month, the Infection Rate shot up by 500 , the week after the government relaxed the rules, before rapidly reintroducing them. And the dutch government here in the hague has been struggling to balance these competing demands. The Nightclub Owners who want to save their businesses, the people who just want to go dancing again, and the vulnerable groups and medical workers who fear it is too soon, any further relaxation could lead to another spike in infections. The dutch Health Minister was criticised after encouraging young people to get the single shot janssen vaccine, and go partying with the slogan, dancing with janssen. He admits the rush to restore freedom at home may have resulted in less of it abroad. Translation it is fair to say that increasing Infection Rates could have consequences, i for the extent to which we are welcome in other european countries. Even the band, desperate to get back to live shows, are urging politicians to move with caution. I think the best thing they could have done would be keep it closed, keep it more strict. Notjust throw everything open. So that we could just. When the time was right, we could really start again. Really, that live energy, as you can tell. Anna holligan, Bbc News, the hague. New research indicates that Stained Glass windows from Canterbury Cathedral may be among the oldest in The World. The panels have been Re Dated using a new device developed by scientists that can be used on site without damaging the glass. The new dating indicates that the windows would have been in place when the archbishop at the time, Thomas Becket, was assassinated at the cathedral in 1170. For decades, historians have thought that some of these panels were made earlier than the others because they are different in style. Now, using a new technique, scientists have confirmed that not only are they much older, but they may well be among the oldest in The World. It has only come to light now because of this device. It may not look like much, but it was developed by scientists to be used on location without damaging the glass. It signs a beam onto the surface, which causes the material inside to radiate. This radiation contains a chemicalfingerprint, from which the researchers worked out its age. Weve been working on this Detective Story for some time, putting all the pieces in place, and then we finally get an answer, something new, that brings together Science And Art into one story. Its fantastic. These are all stories that were recorded at the time they happened here. The discovery has astonished Leonie Seliger, who looks after the Stained Glass windows here. She believes the panels could go back to the mid 1100s, and were in place during major historical event of the cathedral, including the assassination of the then archbishop Thomas Becket, who features in many of these windows. They would have witnessed the murder of Thomas Becket. Henry ii coming on his knees begging for forgiveness. They would have witnessed the conflagration of the fire that devoured the cathedral in 1174. And then they would have witnessed all of british history. The cathedral contains a story of englands history. Its artistry and its religious thinking. Now a new scientific discovery has given us a fresh perspective on the nations past. And Leonie Seliger, who you saw in that report, told us the equipment that is used to date the Stained Glass is astonishing. Yes, the huge advantage is that the equipment does not need samples to be taken from the materials itself, it is entirely nondestructive, and that is a huge bonus for conservators. We dont want to damage the objects that were we dont want to damage the objects that were in our care. How fearful were you that damage to that really old Stained Glass when you were doing this . Not fearful at all, that was all discussed in detail with the scientists, and until we understood exactly what the effect would be, we asked more questions. So for us, this was an amazing opportunity to do some scientific research that would underpin art historical opinion. I had many a School Trip to the cathedral when i was younger. What can you learn from this breakthrough . I think it illustrates how completed and multifaceted the history of the cathedral is. And how much there still is to discover and to learn. We are almost monthly making new discoveries here, which is really exciting, and i think for our visitors to know that this work is ongoing is also interesting. And given what you now know about the Stained Glass, how will those windows be treated . Will they be treated any differently . They are treated very well already. They are all behind protective glazing, so we have created, since the 1970s, we have created the best possible environmental conditions for them to be preserved for many more for many more centuries. But they are being monitored, looked after, so that we know that if something changes, we can take action. Good to hear it. Just finally, how does this compare to other Stained Glass around The World . Can you put this discovery into some kind of context for us . We have always known that we had stained that we had Stained Glass windows starting in the 1170s, so the Stained Glass of Canterbury Cathedral was already amongst the oldest in The World. But once you step back into the middle of the first half of the 12th century, and we now think that these four figures probably date to the 1130s, the air gets incredibly thin there. There are a handful of other windows in The World that date to that time period. So it is hugely exciting to join that elite club. Now its time for a look at the weather. Relative to yesterday, the weather is a little quieter today, but on the whole, the week is looking quite changeable. We are in for further heavy downpours, Thundery Ones, and the possibility of Flash Flooding in places as well. Much quieter this afternoon, some showers around, but for most of us, a dry day and quite a warm one, after around 25 celsius, but whether already circling the uk, and you can see some rain within into Northern Ireland through this evening and overnight. And an area of heavy showery rain moving into South Western parts of the uk. Showery means on and off, on and off, and at Times Heavy. You can see through the morning and is actually plenty of dry weather around as well, so i think coastal areas especially in these the North East Tomorrow will fare best, whereas inland, we are in for those heavy downpours, and again, some of them will be thundery in places as well. Temperatures a little cooler than of late. Hello, this is Bbc News. Im ben mundy. The Headlines Jubilation for Tom Daley In Tokyo with his new diving Partner Matty Lee four Olympic Games and hes finally won gold. An historic victory for Adam Peaty he becomes the first ever british swimmer to successfully defend an olympic title. And more gold for Team Gb on a magic monday, as Tom Pidcock rode to victory in the Mountain Biking, less than two months after breaking his collarbone in a training crash. As new rules on covid tracing alerts come in, giving some Key Workers in england the option of Daily Testing instead of self isolating, ministers meet to review how its going. The British Medical Association is to ask senior doctors in england if they want to consider industriaL Action over the 3 Pay Rise offered by the government. Lets get more from the olympics. Gavins at the Bbc Sport centre. I say magic monday, you say a manic monday. I think either work whichever you prefer. It has been a superb one for Team Gb. Its been an incredible day for Team Gb at the olympics three golds theyve managed, on what many are calling manic monday. Well, Tom Daley, after 13 years of trying finally has an olympic Gold Medal around his neck. He won the mens synchronised ten metre platform competition, with his Partner Matty Lee. The pair dived impeccably throughout, moving top of the leaderboard after four dives, before going on to expertly handle all the nerves and pressure in their final two routines. In a nail biting finale, the british pair watched on as the chinese duo made theirfinal dive. Daley and lee then broke into wild celebrations when it became clear theyd ended chinas Golden Grip on the event, dating back to 2000. I have been diving now for 20 years and this is my fourth Olympic Games and lots of people probably would have counted me out at this olympics being the older person, but im in the best shape physically and mentally. The moment stood behind that rostrum over there and about to be announced as olympic champions and then to hear the national anthem play, i was gone, i couldnt even sing. I was halfway singing and i was blubbering. I just. Yeah, i cant believe it. Means a lot to him, you can see that. And the third Gold Medal came from an unexpected source Team Gbs Tom Pidcock in the mens cross country Mountain Biking. In hot and humid conditions, the 21 year old from leeds dominated, leading the race from halfway onwards. The ineos Grenadiers Riderfinished a clear 20 seconds ahead of the rest of The Field. And the Win Today came just two months after pidcock broke his collarbone in a collision with a car while out training. In the last hour, Team Gb have added another silver to their tally. 22 year old Lauren Williams winning it in the under 67 Kilo Category of the womens taekwondo. She was beaten in the final though by croatias Matea Jelic. Another dramatic Taekwondo Final at these tokyo games. And theres been more to celebrate for the hosts on day three with their second gold of the games in the skateboarding and this one went to a 13 year old Momiji Nishiya winning the womens street event, so thats two golds from two forjapan in the skateboarding, one of the new sports at these games. And it was a youthful podium too the average agejust14, with japan taking bronze too. There was an upset in the womens 400 metres freestyle final with Australias Ariarne Titmus beating the defending Champion Katie Ledecky to win herfirst ever Gold Medal. Titmus swam the best time of her career. Americas ledecky had dominated the pool over the last five years, winning four golds and one silver in rio. Well, theres nothing like an olympic gold to inspire your team mates. This is the moment the australian Womens Water Polo team cheered on titmus on their way back to the olympic village. Cheering. You have to admire the patriotism. Thats all the sport for now. Ill have more for you in the next hour. That is how i celebrate when you do the sport, gavin. That is howl celebrate when you do the sport, gavin. The sport, gavin. Thank you very much the number of civilian deaths in afghanistan has surged since taliban militants launched their offensive against government forces thats according to figures from the united nations. The insurgents have captured vast swathes of rural territory, after foreign troops began their withdrawal from the country. Our afghanistan Correspondent Secunder Kermani has the latest. 1600 civilians were killed in the first six months of this year, what is more than three and a half were thousand injured. That includes a record high number of child casualties and it is amongst the highest figures for that period to ever be recorded since records began a little over a decade ago. It can be a little difficult at times to fully comprehend those figures, but it means basically on average, every day at least nine ordinary men, Women And Children in afghanistan lost their lives as a result of the conflict. Now, violence really spiked in may and june when the taliban began an offensive that has seen them capture around half of all territory in afghanistan. The united nations said the taliban were responsible for more civilian casualties than any other party to the conflict in this latest report. And there is realfear that the violence is only going to get worse. The united nations is warning that if current trends continue, this year will end up being the deadliest ever recorded for civilians in afghanistan. Particularly concerned about the fact that so far, most of the fighting has been in more rural areas in afghanistan but the taliban now seem to be turning their attention increasingly towards afghan cities of course where theses are more densely populated areas. So if there is protracted fighting, as many fear there will be, we will see even more bloodshed. The Shadow Secretary for the future of work, Angela Rayner, explained what labours new deal for working people is and why she thinks all workers should be paid a minimum of £10 per hour. If we look at what has happened during the pandemic, many people who were told before they could not work from home or they could not possibly work flexibly have been incredibly flexible over this period. I know a lot of employers are very appreciative of the staff who have done that but what we want to do is make sure there is a real Work Life Balance so people have the right to switch off and people have the right to request Flexible Working and that should be granted, unless there are exceptional circumstances as to why that shouldnt be. Singer and Tv Presenter Ronan keating has accepted substantiaL Damages from News Group newspapers over Phone Hacking of his voicemails. His legal team said stories which emerged in newspapers between 1996 and 2011 caused him considerable distress, and led to him distrusting some of his closest friends. News group newspapers apologised for the distress caused in relation to the news of The World, which closed in 2011. A speech at a Protest Rally that likened nhs nurses and doctors to nazis executed after World War two has been widely condemned. Former Nurse Kate shemirani made the remarks at the event in trafalgar square, which was billed as a live debate on covid 19. The mayor of london is among those urging the police to look at what she said and the royal College Of Nursing said it could put nurses at risk. The metropolitan police says it is investigating. Earlier i spoke to our Specialist Disinformation Reporter Marianna Spring about this case. These protest began over a year ago as anti lockdown at rallies and they have pivoted their attention to vaccines, opposing vaccine restrictions, vaccine passports, but also become muddled with these very extreme online Conspiracy Theories that have been spreading on Social Media and also on messaging apps like telegram where a lot of these protests are organised. At the rally at the weekend, we also saw how some of the violent threats and language that are being used by people on these channels are manifesting off line too. Discussion of executions, discussion of War Trials and Nuremberg Trials directed at medics, journalists and politicians. We have seen a number of people be harrassed off line be harrassed off line but it does not make it less shocking. What the former nurse said at the weekend has sparked outcry because people are so worried people are so worried about the applications of it. She was suspended and then struck off by the Nursing Body quite recently and she has built a big following over the course of the pandemic by promoting Conspiracy Theories and falsehoods about coronavirus and about the vaccine. I actually interviewed her son last year when he told me all about the fears he had for her impact on Public Health and their relationship. Now he is speaking out again because hes so worried some of this violent language she is using could inspire other people to act out. If there are not existing laws in place that say what she is doing is illegal, we should be having a national conversation about what laws we should be bringing in and granting legislation for that, because it is only a matter of time before, asjust discussed, Someone Acts on the bad advice she is giving the country. This is a man you have spoken to a few times over the last or 0. Why has he decided to speak out on this . And where is this Movement Heading . He is incredibly worried about the impact his mothers words could have on a number of the people who have fallen for these online conspiracies and attend these rallies. Ive spoken to lots of doctors and nurses who have been receiving abuse on Social Media from conspiracy groups for a while now who feel really frightened and really concerned about the comments that were made. He feels as though his mother is perhaps too late to help, but he would like to help other people who have been affected by conspiracies and lots of experts are warning that these groups are being exploited by Extremist Actors and being radicalised to violence in a way that we were not seing before. That we were not seeing before. Going forward, the big concern is that something violent could happen, more violent than just words, and also that a lot of these people are turning to other conspiracies, whether about Climate Change or different topics. For many of the protesters and speakers, it is about a lot more than a covid 19 and for sebastien, it is about his family, very close to home, and he had this to say about why he think his mother is doing it. It might take years, but you eventually cool down from the initial radical period and start listening to people around you more and my mum is definitely beyond help. The problem is because she is so arrogant in her World View and it really truly believes she is a conduit for the truth on a spiritual level, not just scientific, but she has been anointed by god or some other higher power, she thinks she should not have to listen to the People Like Us and every time i try to argue with her, even in a nice, calm and rational way where i try to ask questions, or if i straight up disagree and say you are wrong, either way she will end up getting irate at me and saying i am arrogant and i do not listen to her. It is impossible to talk to someone when it is impossible to talk to someone when they it is impossible to talk to someone when they have that level of God Complex the government says its spending £48 million to try to improve Adoption Services in england. Also that there is a Particularfocus Choice for them. Also that there is a particular focus on finding families for children from different ethnic groups, because we know that its an area that we absolutely need to do better on in this country. The other thing we are very pleased about in the strategy is the increasing recognition of the importance of Adoption And Support and in particular therapeutic adoption, because we know it is absolutely crucial that families have access to this support long term to ensure that their emotional health and well being as a family and also the health and emotional well being of the young people themselves are properly supported as they move through their lives into adult hood. As a state, we are in a responsibility for children we are looking after and try to find Family Support and we do notjust think about children in relation to the next year, we look more long term, so we definitely think it is important that as a country we need to be thinking long term about our childrens needs. This was hampstead, as water inundated roads. We have Extremer Weather events in every single country in The World. The science is very clear, the scientists have always been very clear on what is Climate Change, how it is caused and how we can deal with it. London has been warned that some of its crucial infrastructure like roads and Tube Stations are susceptible to flooding and experts say the capital has to become more proactive now in planning for these types of weather events. Tom edwards, bbc london. Vintage, pre loved, orSecond Hand whatever you call them, clothes that have had a previous owner are all the rage, largely due to concerns about sustainability. Now its time for a look at the weather with tomasz. Quite a Warm And Muggy Day Today with some sunshine and a few scattered showers. A different picture on the way for tuesday and wednesday. In fact, overall the week will be changeable with further heavy showers on the way, some downpours with thunder and lightning. Now, this is the picture across the atlantic. Here is the jet stream, it has taken a dive towards the south so it is actually allowing Cooler Air to come in from the north and you can see all of that weather rushing across the atlantic and heading in our direction. Here is the air stream, the Cooler Air stream from the North Atlantic. It is not cold air, but much Cooler Air compared to what we have been used to recently. Here is the picture through this afternoon. There are scattered showers, but plenty of sunny spells around as well. In some places it is quite hazy. You can see very warm in the midlands there, around 25 degrees, a bit fresher around the coasts, 20 or so. But out towards the west, the clouds are thickening and remember there is Thatjet Stream pushing the clouds in our direction with the weather systems, so you can see outbreaks of rain for Northern Ireland overnight and we have some showery rain reaching the South West of the uk. Showery rain means it will be coming and going through the night and at Times Heavy bursts of rain. But for many of us it will be a dry start to tuesday with some sunshine. Low pressure has parked itself over us for tuesday and as youll see, into wednesday as well. There are weather fronts within this area of low pressure and with the heat of the sun, that will add a bit more energy to the atmosphere. You can see showers popping off during the course of tomorrow afternoon. These could be very heavy, thundery in places and because we are in the middle, the centre of the area of low pressure where winds are light, these showers also move very slowly so in a short space of time again there could be a lot of rainfall, potentially leading to Flash Flooding. You can see once again we are right in the of that low we are right in the middle of that low pressure on wednesday, but i think a little bit more of a breeze second half of the week. You can see the breeze here blowing across southern areas so the slow moving showers, the ones that could bring potentially Flash Flooding, thunder and lightning, i think more across central areas of the uk. But i wouldnt rule it out elsewhere. Relatively cool, here is that slightly cooler North Atlantic air, you can see in the teens for some of us and just about making 20 degrees across the south of the country. So all sorts coming this week. This is Bbc News. Im ben mundy. The Headlines Jubilation for Tom Daley In Tokyo, with his new diving Partner Matty Lee four Olympic Games and hes finally won gold. Theres been a Gold Rush for Team Gb at the olympics In Tokyo. Adam peaty won the mens100 Metres Breaststroke, becoming the first british swimmer ever to retain an olympic title. Tom daley and Matty Lee were victorious in the mens synchronised 10 metre diving, and Tom Pidcock won britains third gold in the Mens Mountain Bike cross country event. There was success too in the Mens Triathlon, with Alex Yee securing a Silver Medal, and for Taekwondo Star Lauren Williams, who also took silver. Well, for a full Round Up of the action at the olympics today, lets cross to gavin ramjaun at the bbc Sports Centre. Its been an incredible day for Team Gb at the olympics three golds theyve managed, on what many are calling manic monday. The run of golds started in the early hours of this morning, though, as Adam Peaty made history in the pool, becoming the first british swimmer to defend their olympic title. I thought i had the best preparation of my life, but then the morning finals, it goes out the window. Thats really what it takes to be an athlete, not who is the best all year round, its the best on the day, best person on the day who is the most adaptable. Tom daley, who after 13 years of trying finally has an olympic Gold Medal around his neck. He won the mens synchronised 10 metre platform competition, with his Partner Matty Lee. The pair dived impeccably throughout, moving top of the Leaderboard Afterfour dives, before going on to expertly handle all the nerves and pressure in their final two routines. And the third Gold Medal came from an unexpected source Team Gbs Tom Pidcock in the mens cross country Mountain Biking. Team gb have added another silver to their tally. 22 year old Lauren Williams winning it in the under 67 Kilo Catergory of the womens taekwondo. She was beaten in the final, though, by croatias Matea Jelic. Another dramatic Taekwondo Final at these tokyo games. Williams was leading going into the last few moments of the final round, but had the gold snatched from her in the last few moments. This felt so much like a normal competition, i didnt think it would be. I suppose that is a big approach to have, not picking it up, just take it as another competition. I have really enjoyed myself all day. Not bigging it up. I am gutted, even though i am not showing it, i know i will be proud when i wake Up Tomorrow morning, everyone back home is proud of me. Im joined now by rebecca adlington, a former competitive swimmerforTeam Gb, who won two Gold Medals at the 2008 olympics. Lets start in the pool with Adam Peaty, what an achievement. Running out of positive peaty, what an achievement. Running out of positive things peaty, what an achievement. Running out of positive things to peaty, what an achievement. Running out of positive things to say peaty, what an achievement. Running out of positive things to say about i out of positive things to say about him, because there are no words to describe how phenomenal he is. He has a History Maker already, but now in the first ever british swimmer to defend their title is just incredible. So much emotion, when he got that Gold Medal, you could see the Relief Lift off his shoulders. Please dont run out of words. What makes them so good . The please dont run out of words. The thing is with adam as he isjust as with adam as he is just as full package of an athlete, notjust physically but mentally, the way he attacks a race, he is a born true racer. He thrives off that pressure, that environment. He likes being the one that everyone is targeting, and he has just defended one that everyone is targeting, and he hasjust defended his one that everyone is targeting, and he has just defended his title for so long, he has reinvented breaststroke, almost glides across the water like a speedboat. But i just cannot put into words how incredible he is, and how much emotion there was from him last night. And still more to come up with the relays as well. Absolutely. What ive heard from all the athletes across the board is just how much they miss having their family and friends there, it is so important that your parents and loved ones travel The World with you, and they get to go everywhere to support you. The thing is, these medals would not be possible without the families at home, so i know how devastated they are not to have those guys out there supporting them. But like i said, hopefully they know the support they get, and we are giving so much love, we are with them every step of the way. I think it will be different, this olympics as different as a whole, not just the fact that it is no crowds, it is a completely different olympics, and i think they arejust so grateful that it is happening, a chance to win those Gold Medals despite being no crowds. Senior ministers are meeting today to review the scheme which allows fully vaccinated Key Workers in england to avoid Self Isolation by taking daily covid tests instead. Staff working in the food supply chain, in front Line Emergency services, and in Transport And Freight are already included from today but there are calls for workers from other sectors to be added. There were just over 2,000 cases yesterday, 29,000 cases compared with more than 48,000 last week. Paul hunter is professor in medicine at the university of East Anglia and explained that this downward trend in cases doesnt come as a surprise to him. We saw cases beginning to plateau in earlyjune, but We Saw a subsequent surge associated with the early england game, so as the euros finished, we would certainly expect to see less of a driver on Case Numbers. But what i am more confident about is that, if we do see cases rising, it would be anywhere near as dramatic as people were concerned about is likely to be actually temporary, so even if we do start getting a surge, it wont, the speed of that Surge Wont last as long as weve seen in recent weeks, but wilL Actually start again plateauing out fairly quickly. We have an update on the latest covid 19 cases. They were just 24 hour period, there have been 24,950 new cases. That is another fall, because compared to yesterday, that was 29,173. The technical difficulties, with the data around death, we do not have an update on that. As far as the Vaccination Programme goes, we are here in million people of the adult population have received their first jab, 37. 2 million have had their second vaccine dose. The headlines on Bbc News three Olympic Golds for Team Gb diving pair Tom Daley and Matty Lee, swimmer Adam Peaty, and cyclist Tom Pidcock all win their events on day 3 of the tokyo games. On the day new rules on covid tracing alerts come in, giving some Key Workers in england the option of Daily Testing, instead of self isolating, ministers meet to discuss how its going. The british medical associaiton is to ask senior doctors in england if they want to consider industriaL Action over the 3 Pay Rise offered by the government. Senior doctors in england are being asked today whether they would be prepared to take industriaL Action over the governments 3 pay offer. The Doctors Union the bma previously said Strike Action would be considered if consultants were not given at least a 5 increase. Last week, the government raised its Pay Rise offer for most Nhs Staff in england from 1 to 3 , following a recommendation from an independent Pay Review Body. I spoke to Mike Henley from the bma earlier. It is hard to know, the 5 is in respect of easily long Term Decrease in our stylists and 2008, which aptly represents about one third of our Pay Packet has disappeared after tax etc, which is a huge hit. So 3 as offered, which is in reality slightly under 3 , about 2. 8 want to do the numbers, is nothing anywhere near that. We know already that the retail Prices Index Inflation is already more than that, 3. 9 forjuly, so in reality, consultants who have worked all through the pandemic, and have had an incredibly stressful time of it, are being offered another real terms i have spent some time during this pandemic reporting from hospitals. There is a staffing crisis, the staff are tired. Given this and the context of this, what reassurance can you give to those patients who are waiting for treatment . You said at the top of your piece were talking about Strike Action, but we are not, were talking about industriaL Action short of a strike is the thing were contemplating at the moment. Urgent care, Cancer Care is not the sort of thing were looking at upsetting, but it is the overtime, paid and unpaid, which might take the hit if members decide that is what they to do. But what reassurance can you give to patients that are potentially watching this now . Normal care, in terms of if you have cancer or you come in as an emergency, will not be affected, it will continue as normal. But where it might be impacted is if you are one of those patients who have been waiting a long while. That is the difficulty, that if we decide we are not doing overtime, thats where there might be some impact. But this can be sorted out by the government. It is not something any doctors want to do, it is completely in the power of the government to sort this out. Why 5 . How have you arrived at that figure . 5 was broadly supported by members of the public and also consultants when we did polling beforehand. Really, the government needs to look at correcting the long term one third dent in our pay, that is a matter for government. We felt, is that the general public when we asked them, that 3 was a fair starting point. When we asked them, that 3 was a fairstarting point. 5 . The Department Of Health says the nhs are rightly receiving a 3 Pay Rise, they have looked at this through a Pay Review Body, has this gone far enough, having looked at enough evidence . The great difficulty, i think, is that the doctors Pay Review Body was the first pay Pay Review Body introduced in the uk in 1960, the very first in the uk. But since 2008, the government has put restrictions on affordability criteria, spending limits, etc, which have meant that any independence that it had has been absolutely shackled. And i think you can see that across the public Sector Pay Review bodies. So its a bigger problem thanjust doctors. A new Compensation Fund is being set up for other potential victims of the disgraced Breast Surgeon ian paterson. A man has been Found guilty of murdering the Teenager Bernadette Walker in peterborough. The 17 year old went missing one year ago after accusing Scott Walker whom she called dad of sexual abuse. Her body has not been Found. The jury at Cambridge Crown Court Found bernadettes mother, sarah walker, helped to cover up the death by sending messages from her daughters phone. Jon ironmonger reports. What happened to Bernadette Walker . She would be 18 now, but for the man she called dad, who vanished her away after she accused him of sexual abuse. Known as bea, to herfriends, bernadette was bubbly and shy, and a budding photographer. We had the sort of relationship where we would mess about and say the randomest stuff, or randomlyjust Start Play Fighting. If she is gone, i will never have that again. It was a complicated family. One of the various siblings by different fathers, she took the surname of her mothers partner, Scott Walker. The couple separated in 2019, but scott stuck around. It was then prosecutors say said that he killed her. Because of the lack of forensic evidence, i would guess some sort of smothering or strangulation, but it is impossible to know until we actually find bernadette. We will continue to investigate everything that comes forward. Both defendants gave a vague account that bernadette got out of the car when scott pulled over to roll a cigarette, and walked away down this alleyw, leaving all her belongings behind. But rather than begin a Frantic Search for her, the pairs immediate reaction was to hack into E Mail accounts, change her password, and use her phone to send dozens of messages in her name. Sarah even lied to the police to try to cover up the ladder. She said the murder. She later admitted sending messages from her daughters phone, and said that scott had brainwashed her. In the Days after bernadettes appearance, scott made mysterious Twilight Trips to this lock up garage, and took sarah with him to a remote area of the fens. Police have searched both locations, but Bernadettes Body has never been Found. 20 years ago, it would be impossible to bring this case to court, but because of the digital footprint that was left, it can tie an individual to particular locations. The moment stood behind that rostrum over there and about to be announced as olympic champions and then to hear the national anthem play, i was gone, i couldnt even sing. Tom edwards reports. More like a river than a Dlr Station this was Pudding Lane last night as nearly two inches of rain fell in just a few hours. This was hampstead, as water inundated roads. The Shadow Secretary for the future of work, Angela Rayner, explained what labours new deal for working people is and why she thinks all workers should be paid a minimum of £10 per hour. People in Britain Shouldnt have to go to work and really struggle to feed their families and support themselves in very low paid, insecure work. So today is about making sure that everybody gets rights from Day One in employment, can have the right for Flexible Working, notjust for the employer but for the employees as well, who have done so much adapting and working from home over this period, and making sure everybody has a minimum of at least £10 an hour real living wage. I think that would really boost our economy, but also give people some security respecting work. We think that is the absolute minimum people should expect. A few specifics, Flexible Working, that is a right rather than a request . So it would have to be granted under your plan . Unless there is an exceptional reason why they cant. Actually, if we look at what has happened during the pandemic, many people who were told before they could not work from home or they could not possibly work flexibly have been incredibly flexible over this period. I know a lot of employers are very appreciative of the staff who have done that but what we want to do is make sure there is a real Work Life Balance so people have the right to switch off and people have the right to request Flexible Working and that should be granted, unless there are exceptional circumstances as to why that shouldnt be able to. The number of civilian deaths in afghanistan has surged since taliban militants launched their offensive against government forces thats according to figures from the united nations. The insurgents have captured vast swathes of rural territory, after foreign troops began their withdrawal from the country. Secunder kermani has the latest. 1600 civilians were killed in the first six months of this year, what is more than three and a half thousand were injured. Particularly concerned about the fact that so far, most of the fighting has been in more rural areas in afghanistan but the taliban now seem to be turning their attention increasingly towards afghan cities of course where these are more densely populated areas. So if there is protracted fighting, as many fear there will be, we will see even more bloodshed. A speech at a Protest Rally in central london that likened nhs nurses and doctors to nazis executed after World War two has been widely condemned. Earlier i spoke to our Specialist Disinformation Reporter Marianna Spring about this case. Now they have pivoted their attention to vaccines, opposing vaccines, restrictions, vaccine passports, but they have also become muddled with these very extreme online Conspiracy Theories that have been spreading on Social Media and also on messaging apps like telegram where a lot of these protests are organised. At the rally at the weekend, we also saw how some of the violent threats and language that are being used by people on these channels are manifesting off line too. Discussion of executions, discussion of War Trials and Nuremberg Trials directed at medics, journalists and politicians. We have seen a number of people be harassed off line in recent months too, but that does not make it any less shocking. What the former nurse said at the weekend has sparked outcry because people are so worried about the implications of it. Now he is speaking out again because hes so worried that some of this violent language she is using could inspire other people to act out. If there are not existing laws in place that say what she is doing is illegal, then we should be having a national conversation about what laws we should be bringing in and drafting up legislation for that, because it is only a matter of time before, asjust discussed, Someone Acts on the bad advice she is giving the country. This is a man you have spoken to a few times over the last year or so. Why has he decided to speak out again today and where is this Movement Heading . He feels as though his mother is perhaps too late to help, but that he would like to help other people who have been affected by conspiracies and lots of experts are warning that these groups are being exploited by Extremist Actors and being radicalised to violence in a way that we were not seeing before. Going forward, the big concern is that something violent could happen, more violent than just words, and also that a lot of these people are turning to other conspiracies, whether thats about Climate Change or different topics. For many of the protesters and speakers, it is about a lot more than covid 19 and for sebastian, it is about his family, very close to home, and he had this to say about why he thinks his mother is doing it. It might take a number of years, but you eventually cool down from the initial radical period and start listening to people around you more. My mum is definitely beyond help. The problem is because she is so arrogant in her World View and really truly believes she is a conduit for the truth on a spiritual level, not just a scientific level, but she has been anointed by god or some other higher power, she thinks she should not have to listen to People Like Us and every time i have tried to argue with her, either in a nice, calm and rational way where ijust ask her questions and try to get her own argument into knots, or if ijust straight up disagree and say you are wrong, either way she will end up getting irate at me and saying i am arrogant and i do not listen to her. So it is impossible to talk to somebody when they have that level of God Complex. Sebastian shemirani there the son of Kate Shemirani ending that interview with our Disinformation Reporter Marianna Spring. New research indicates that Stained Glass windows in Canterbury Cathedral may be among the oldest in The World. The panels have been redated using a new device developed by scientists which can be used on site without damaging the glass. The new dating indicates that the windows would have been in place when the archbishop at the time, Thomas Becket, was assassinated at the cathedral in 1170. Yes, the huge advantage is that the equipment does not need samples to be taken from the material itself. It is entirely nondestructive and Fair Conservatives of course that is a huge bonus. We do not want to damage objects in our care. A huge bonus. We do not want to damage objects in our care. Fair conservatives. Damage objects in our care. Fair conservatives. While, we have always known that we had Stained Glass starting that we had Stained Glass starting in the ii that we had Stained Glass starting in the 11 70s, so it was already amongst the oldest in The World, but once you step back into the middle of the first half of the 12th century, and we now think that these four figures century, and we now think that these fourfigures probably century, and we now think that these four figures probably date to the ii four figures probably date to the 11 30s, the air it gets incredibly thin there. There are a handful of other windows in The World that date to that time period so it is hugely exciting to join that elite club. Now its time for a look at the weather with tomasz. Relative to yesterday, the weather is a little quieter with some sunshine, but on the whole, the week is looking quite changeable.
