To ensure Essential Workers can avoid Self Isolation and keep working. A frantic search for survivors in india, as incessant rains trigger severe floods and landslides in the state of maharashtra. 135 are confirmed dead. President biden warns that the us is facing a pandemic of the unvaccinated, as the Delta Variant of Coronavirus Spreads. A warm welcome to tokyo, where the first Gold Medals of the Tokyo Olympics have been awarded. 11 medals are up for grabs on Day One, including in cycling, weightlifting and fencing. But it was in the judo where the Host Nation Japan won its first medals. A gold and a silver. Mariko oi has the details. Well, japan winning its first Gold Medal and Naohisa Takato giving a very emotional interviewjust now, following funa tonaki, also ofjudo, winning silver and according to the Japanese Olympic Committee her Silver Medal was the 500th medal for Team Japan olympic history, so quite an exciting moment for her as well. A bit of disappointment in gymnastics with Kohei Uchimura not qualifying for the finals, but a lot of people will be watching Rikako Ikee in swimming. Of course, she was diagnosed with leukaemia two years ago. She inspired many by qualifying for this years Olympic Games. And lets not forget japans womens football team, nadeshiko, up against Team Gb as well. And i think it is fair to say that the japanese government officials have been hoping that once the games are under way and once japanese athletes start winning medals, as we saw this evening, the public opinion may start to change. Of course, we have been reporting strong public opposition, even last night during the Opening Ceremony, with a lot of protests going on, but at the same time i was outside the Olympic Stadium earlier and there was a long queue of people waiting for their turn to take a picture with the olympic rings, so some people are definitely getting excited that the games are finally underway. Mariko oi bear, bring us the latest, particularly on the judo. Some very happy japanese particularly on the judo. Some very happyjapanesejudo fans particularly on the judo. Some very happyjapanese judo fans of particularly on the judo. Some very happy japanese judo fans of the Host Nation of course thrilled to be winning a Gold And Silver on the very first day of competition. Lets cross to the bbc Sports Centre and speak to our sports reporter, austin halewood, whos been watching the action in tokyo. It is incredibly hot here. This was really the main featured l this was really the main featured event of this Opening Day in tokyo and it was a historic first day for the people of ecuador, as you say. They won their second Gold Medal ever at an Olympic Games, in the mens Road Race cycling. The race lasted for over six hours in a sweltering heat you mentioned there and it was a bit of a Roller Coaster Race as well, but In The End it was this man, Richard Carapaz from ecuador, who broke away with six kilometres to go, when he held on to cross the line, with his rivals pretty much Out Of Sight as well. That is ecuador s first medal since 19 96 and it has been a good week for Richard Carapaz, who was third in the Tour De France last week, so he is clearly in great form. He is a Team Mate of Britains Geraint thomas, a former Tour De France winner, they compete together in Cycling Team Ineo and for a second time, Geraint Thomas or his olympic hopes ruined by a crash. His fellow Team Mate, teo Geoghegan Hart fell onto the tarmac, causing a crash for both of them. They did get back on, but unfortunately couldnt catch up. It was a Photo Finish with Wout Van Aert from belgium just winning over tadej pogacar. I dont think you will be too disappointed with the brands, though. They had been cycling for over six hours and then for it to come down to just a tyre width, as you said, amazing. Tell us about the Table Tennis because it was such a brave performance from the youngest athlete at these games. Yes, this is one of the standout stories coming into these games, but sadly on the first day it is over. There were tears from the youngest athlete at these olympics, just 12 years old, Hend Zaza, the young Table Tennis star, and her story aside from the olympics really is remarkable. She has come from war torn syria, but Given Hope through sport. The story itself you could say is worthy of a cold, but she lost in straight sets to her Opening Round two liujia of austria, who did go up to her after the final point and offered a hug to her opponent, saying she had maternal feelings because she has a ten year old daughter herself, who then did want to get a selfie with Hend Zaza after the match. Afterwards, Liu Jia said Hend Zaza after the match. Afterwards, liujia said it Hend Zaza after the match. Afterwards, Liu Jia said it was less about sport and more about the human side, whereas12 year old Hend Zaza said, my message to everyone in the same situation is, believe in yourself and fight for your dreams. So an incredible story, but unfortunately it is already over on this thursday. Unfortunately it is already over on this thursday this thursday. Yes, but a lovely messa. E this thursday. Yes, but a lovely message from this thursday. Yes, but a lovely message from for this thursday. Yes, but a lovely message from for everyone. This thursday. Yes, but a lovely message from for everyone. Austin, thank you so much. Well, there were many poignant moments we saw in last nights Opening Ceremony and one of them was very much that moment of silence that we saw. That commemorated the 11 israeli athletes killed by palestinian gunmen at the Munich Olympics in 1972. It was the first time in nearly half a century. Ankie spitzer is the widow of one of the victims of that attack. Shejoins me live. She is here in tokyo. You have been campaigning for this for decades. Finally the moment arrived. Billions of people were watching Around The World. How was it . World. How was it . Overwhelming, that is the word. World. How was it . Overwhelming, that is the word. I world. How was it . Overwhelming, that is the word. I cannot world. How was it . Overwhelming, that is the word. I cannot even that is the word. I cannot even express myself differently. It was overwhelming, unexpected, we didnt know that this was going to happen and i must say one of the happiest moments in my life because it finally happened, we had a long and lonesome road trying to get some recognition of the ii israelis that were killed. They were not killed as israelis, but as part of the olympic family. There were members of the olympic family and we wanted them to be recognised as such and it has finally happened last night. With; finally happened last night. Why do ou believe finally happened last night. Why do you believe it finally happened last night. Why do you believe it finally finally happened last night. Why do you believe it finally happened finally happened last night. Why do you believe it finally happened at l you believe it finally happened at these olympics . You you believe it finally happened at these olympics . You believe it finally happened at these olympics . You see, we had to face all kinds these olympics . You see, we had to face all kinds of these olympics . You see, we had to face all kinds of different face all kinds of different president s, International Olympic Committee and we finally got to thomas bach, the current president , and he had a totally different approach and he said, My Door is open, my heart is open. And it came out as such, and he was the one that was courageous enough and could withstand a lot of pressure from inside the International Olympic Committee to do the right thing because we wanted justice to be done. I went with Andrei Spitzer to the Olympic Games with all his Team Mates in 1972. I remember the enormous dreams they had to participate in this festival of Brotherhood And Peace and love, and they all came home in coffins. I was in the room where they were tortured and kept hostage and also two of them were murdered there, and i looked at what had happened in that room. I was a 26 year old girl with a two month old baby and i said, if this is what people can do to each other, i cannot be quiet. I have to talk and tell The World what happened, so that this will never happened, so that this will never happen again. find happened, so that this will never happen again happened, so that this will never hauenauain. . , happen again. There isjustice . Absolutely, finally there is justice. We. There isjustice . Absolutely, i finally There Isjustice. We have been supported by a lot of people, but we also have been worked against by many, many people, with a lot of humiliations and smears on the way. There are all kinds of lame excuses why they were not going to do the minute of silence, but it is finally over and my best thing that i have is that we can close this part and i dont have to burden my next generation, my children and the other children, with trying to fight the same site. I am so happy that this happened in my lifetime and we are finally. We can finally say justice was done. Are finally. We can finally say justice was done. Are finally. We can finally say justice was done. And an amazing sense of closure, justice was done. And an amazing sense of closure, i justice was done. And an amazing sense of closure, i am justice was done. Thank you so much for joining us after all these years and all that campaigning, and please do stay here in tokyo to witness it, thank you, ankie spitzer. Plenty more to come from here in tokyo. For now its back to ben in the studio. 0k, ok, look forward to it, and we will speak to you later from the studio, Lucy Hockings there, thank you very much. More workers in england will now be able to avoid Self Isolation if theyre contacted by Nhs Test and trace or pinged by the covid app. A Government Scheme which had just been for Supermarket Depots and Food Manufacturers is now being extended to include front Line Emergency services and some transport workers. The scheme was due to start yesterday, but has been delayed until at least monday. Richard burge is from the London Chamber of commerce he described the scheme as inadequate and late. What we need is for the government to realise we have major problems occurring across all industrial sectors because people are being pinged and having to self isolate and the vast, vast majority of them it happens unnecessarily. So government needs to actually open this up to all sectors and allow Industry Leaders and Business Leaders to make their own decisions, using the ping, but using testing rather than isolation. But does it not potentially create problems in future if people do not isolate . Because if someone goes into a workplace when they have been pinged and then they subsequently test positive and then potentially they put at risk a bigger proportion of the workforce. Well, that is why they should actually be testing constantly every day. We do have these Test Kits and we are told that they are very, very good. They are not perfect, but then neither is vaccination perfect, so our view in the London Chamber is that all businesses should basically tell their staff to use the ping. If it goes off they should use lateral Flow Tests or a Pcr Test and then just carry on, unless it is positive, in which case stay away. If this were not adopted, what is the. What is the worst possible scenario . The worst possible scenario is particularly small businesses going out of business, having managed to struggle through for the past 15 months. These people and businesses really are on the edge now and this could tip them over. I know we have been saying that, but every time some mismanagement by government has occurred, more businesses have gone out of business and we are now left with a few who are really on the precipice. This could damage them hugely. It could lead to. I dont think it will lead to mass shortages, i dont think people need to be rushing to their supermarkets, i think supermarkets have got their Supply Chains sorted out, but it will mean less choice, so when you go to supermarkets you might find the variety of Potato Crisps is less than you might imagine, but you will still be able to find food easily and eat, so it is not panic stations. But it is a real problem for businesses themselves. Tony sophoclides from the London Chamber of commerce. Richard. President biden has warned that the united states is facing a pandemic of the unvaccinated, as the Delta Variant of Coronavirus Spreads rapidly in areas where the Uptake Ofjabs has been low. Speaking in virginia, Mr Biden praised the governor of Alabama Kay Ivey who said it was time to start blaming the unvaccinated for the rise in infections. Heres our north america correspondent, david willis. With less than 34 of its population fully vaccinated, alabama is the least vaccinated state in this country. And thursdays remarks by its republican governor were well received by the white house. They are supposed to have common sense. But it is time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks because its the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down. In a speech, President Biden echoed governor kay ivey s assertion that the recent rise in covid 19 cases was the fault of those who have refused to get vaccinated. What we have now is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Here is the point. First of all, the covid 19 deaths and Hospitalisations Today are among the unvaccinated people. And i know, i know this has gotten a bit politicised, but i hope it is starting to change. A Growing Number of republicans and conservative leaders have called on people to get vaccinated in recent days following nearly a three fold increase in coronavirus cases in the last two weeks, most of them involving people who have not been vaccinated. 56 of americans, including children, have now received at least one jab, but a new poll suggests that the majority of those who are yet to be vaccinated still say they are unlikely to do so. Emergency workers in Western India have been frantically trying to rescue around 50 people feared trapped in a landslide triggered by Monsoon Rains in the state of maharashtra. Officials said the incessant rains over the past few days have triggered severe flooding in many parts of the state, causing widespread devastation. The number of those killed has risen to more than 135. Im joined now by Anbarasan Ethirajan joins us from delhi. Just explain how bad the situation is there. G. , is there. The officials in the Western State is there. The officials in the Western State of is there. The officials in the i Western State of maharashtra, is there. The officials in the Western State of maharashtra, they describe this as the worst rain and floods in july describe this as the worst rain and floods injuly in nearly 40 years and the pictures coming out of maharashtra have been heartbreaking. You know, the flood entering various towns and villages, people fleeing towns and villages, people fleeing to save their lives and a number of places they witnessed and slides that caused a huge amount of casualties. As we speak, the Emergency Services are still attempting to rescue at least 55 people who appear buried under the debris in the district nearby. In some places, where there was flooding and best the banks, and people had to climb up to the rooftops of buildings to save their lives because due to this heavy rain, the dams got full and then the authorities had to release water. In some towns, the locals were saying the Water Level was up to 8 10 feet high, which means many Ground Floor apartments were flooded and this has been quite unprecedented, not only in maharashtra and the famous Holiday Destination of goer, and the officials there are saying the worst flooding in nearly 50 years. Obviously the Monsoon Season is well established and a well known phenomena. You are saying this is the worst for 50 years, is that the worst that they have seen in all those areas or is itjust in a very localised spot that is the worst for so many decades . This localised spot that is the worst for so many decades . So many decades . This is particularly so many decades . This is particularly true so many decades . This is particularly true of so many decades . This is particularly true of the i so many decades . This is l particularly true of the case so many decades . This is particularly true of the case of the state of maharashtra and goa, but were also seeing flooding further down south and in some parts of atopy as well. If you talk to the experts here, they point out that even though Monsoon Rains are seasonal, what is changing is the intensity of these monsoons, for example a Weeks Worth of rain is now coming or three days, which means there is no for this water to, you know, go into a drainage or go into a river, so that is creating a lot of pressure. The second point they are pointing out is many of the Urban Planning are so bad that they have built in places where the river really nearby, so there is no way for the water to Ruth Bradley is huge Apartment Blocks, so that is also a problem with Urban Planning. If you look at what is happening in china, in china, in the philippines and at what happened recently in germany, many of these Climate Change Experts will link it with what is happening globally with regard to climb it, but there are people who may disagree with this view as well. {lilia people who may disagree with this view as well view as well. Fatuma kadir was seen boarding a train from Manchester Piccadilly On Thursday evening, and was last spotted leaving London Euston station in the early hours of friday morning. Our correspondent, Sanchia Berg, has been following developments. Well, the latest is, as you said, that the police have issued an appeal and fatumas parents were there. They did not speak, but they did look quite desperately worried about their daughter. The police have issued an appeal and they are particularly keen to try to track down a couple Who Fatuma spoke to, according to the cctv, on the train between bolton and manchester. They are not suggesting this couple have anything to do with her disappearance. They just think that fatuma might have given them some indication of where she was going and what her plans are. Family and friends have told the police that in the past she talked about wanting to set up her own Clothes Business, perhaps in the London Bridge, Tower Bridge area, but of course she is only 11 and she is extremely vulnerable. It looks like the male and female are concerned for her welfare. The three get on the train. On the same train, to Manchester Piccadilly. They get on the same train again to birmingham new street. I am not saying they travelled together, but they were on the same train, so we really want to find this male and this female to get in touch because they may know where Fatuma Kadir was going. You mentioned that line about her perhaps wanting to set up a Business Or Base herself in london for work, but do the police have any idea why she may have made such a journey at that time . No, they said there was no indication she had been in any way lured to london. There was no indication of why she had left at that time. They said that she was described by her parents as, a really intelligent girl, a very independent minded girl. But as i say, she is only 11 and to arrive in london in the middle of the night and then police believe she was headed for the London Bridge, Tower Bridge area, they are very, very concerned and they said, if anyone does see her. She is five foot two, she is wearing a dark robe and headscarf, a blue scarf, they should call 999 because, as i say, it is quite unusual for the police to issue an urgent appeal at such a short time frame and they are very concerned about her. Our correspondent Sanchia Berg there. Lets get some of the days other news the annual gay Pride March is due to take place in the hungarian capital, budapest, later today. Capital punishment will be replaced with Life Imprisonment or a minimum term of 30 years. No one has been executed in Sierra Leone since 1998, but it was still on the Statute Book for crimes including treason, murder and mutiny. Firefighters in miami have declared an end to their search for bodies at the site of a collapsed Apartment Block last month. The collapse at the the 12 Story Champlain towers south in surfside killed 97 people, with at least one more missing person yet to be identified. Five different types of Cycling Events are taking place at this years Tokyo Olympics. While the sight of all those athletes on bikes might inspire some of us To Hop on the saddle, not all of our local streets are suitable for cycling, let alone allowing our children to Ride On. Unlike The Netherlands, where a huge portion ofjourneys are made by bike. So what does it take to make Cycling Nation . To make a Cycling Nation . Anna holligan has been collecting some tips from the dutch bike lanes. Here in The Netherlands, bikes rule. 40 years ago, the government created the dutch Cycling Embassy as there was so much interest in how cities transform themselves into this paradise for people on bikes. And heres their first tip. Well, you need to make it really comfortable. And i think what we are doing right now is a perfect example of that. Chris bruntlett travels The World, teaching other countries how to make cycling a viable alternative to driving. We have to create these conditions where an eight year old is comfortable cycling and an 80 year old is comfortable cycling. So what does that require . Tips two and three infrastructure. Bike parking is a huge piece of it, and i think an underestimated one. If we are going to build a safe space for cycling, we need to give people a safe space to store their bike. The segregated cycle lanes, thejunctions and the intersections one thing the dutch do really well is provide physical protection all the way through the intersections so that you are notjust thrown out into no Mans Land and left to fend for yourself. And when the different types of Road Users do come into contact with each other, the bikes are always given priority. And that is something that is built into these streets. Just watch. All the traffic pausing for them at this roundabout. But these dynamics arent built out of bricks and mortar alone. Tipfour. Teaching children how to cycle in schools, its given them an education in traffic safety. And when youve been travelling by bike your whole life, it happens almost as naturally as walking. It also means most drivers have grown up on two wheels, which breeds a broader level of consciousness and conscientiousness. Tip five its written into the insurance here. If there is an accident, the onus is on the driver to prove they werent at fault. Is it practical for every country to have a Cycle Network like The Netherlands does . The good news is, yeah, it could be. Its not necessarily a copy paste, its just taking the inspiration from the dutch and the Best Practices that theyve developed. The netherlands has changed from a car dominated country to a bicycle dominated country in a matter of decades, and this is the message that we now take to cities Around The World that change is possible, you just need that long Term Commitment to making it so. So, for cities that think the dutch Model Cant be replicated, there is a guide for that. Anna holligan, Bbc News, the hague. Runners across england have been returning to take part in Park Run today. The free 5k events were due to resume onjune 5th, but were postponed by the delay of coronavirus restrictions easing. Events in Northern Ireland are already back up and running, while In Scotland and wales organisers are aiming to start again on august 14th. This is Bbc News. Hello, everyone. I hope you are doing all right. We are turning a Corner Weather wise at the moment, turning cooler over the next couple of days. It has been very hot, but also dry and unsettled for most of us, but we see a change there with some thunderstorms around. Many of us have seen these already this morning and overnight as well. We will see heavy and slow moving downpours as well and where we see these the risk of travel disruption. The areas of concern are in southern England And South wales, but some of those showers will drift further north. They have been here throughout this morning, they will gradually tilt northwards through this afternoon, but i think Mid Wales, the midlands, North Wales and the midlands and further north is where we see the drier, brighter weather, but not completely dry, a scattering of heavy showers here. Eastern coastal parts will remain quite misty and murky in places, and cooler as well. Top temperatures across Northern Ireland and the north of england 25 celsius, but as you can see here cooler across parts. Through tonight, we see further under a heavy downpours with some hail in the mix as well and it will be another mild, muggy night. Quite windy where we see those showers as well, lows of 14 or 15 celsius. First thing tomorrow morning, i think we will see further heavy spells of rain at times, it is all happening because of what we are seeing here, an area of low pressure with Weather Front swelling around. That remains nearby through tomorrow as well. The emphasis of the showers does want to just shift further east as well, so i think parts of south west wales, Mid Wales seeing something drier and brighter when compared to today. Some sunny spells across Northern Ireland and north of england had much of scotland as well. Cool and cloudy across Eastern Coastal Parts again. Look at the temperatures here tomorrow. We are starting to cool off. Windy with the low pressure, top temperatures 24, possibly 25 celsius in places. Looking towards Tomorrow Night and into monday, there is the low. It is on its travels, moving towards east. In doing so, i think it will introduce unsettled conditions at times on monday. It is a mixture of bright sunny spells and scattered, often heavy and thundery showers, again slow moving and a lot of rainfall within a short space of time in a small area. Those temperatures on monday 2425 celsius. As we move through the rest of the week, we see things cooling off, but still pretty unsettled. Well keep you posted, that is the forecast. See you soon this is Bbc News, im Ben Boulos. The headlines. The olympic Host Nationjapan picks up its first medals a gold and a silver in thejudo mens and womens categories. That was after ecuador s Richard Carapaz won the gold in the mens cycling Road Race, making it the countrys second ever gold at a summer olympics. Tackling britains pingdemic hundreds more Covid Testing Sites will be set up across england to ensure Essential Workers can avoid Self Isolation and keep working. Theres a frantic search for survivors in india as relentless rains trigger severe floods and landslides in the state of maharastra. At least 135 people are already known to have died. President biden warns the us is facing a pandemic of the unvaccinated. The governments facing pressure to bring forward the relaxation of Quarantine Restrictions for fully vaccinated adults in england, to help firms struggling with Staff Shortages. A scheme allowing Key Workers to avoid covid Self Isolation in england has been significantly extended to include some Supermarket Depot and Food Factory workers, and police, fire, Borderforce And Transport staff. Linda bauld, professor of Public Health at the university of edinburgh, explained why scientists are cautious about further relaxation. Given the level of infection in the community at the moment, clearly having over 600,000 people in england pinged, i think, in the last week is very, very disruptive with the covid 19 app, so the Business Concerns are absolutely real nd i think there needs to be a solution. And if you look around the World Atother countries that are doing well in their vaccine programme, singapore, for example, they are also moving to a system of not requiring Self Isolation for people whove had both doses of the vaccine. But i guess the question is why is it not being expanded instantly . And i know youve been covering that on the programme. There are a couple of Public Health reasons for that and then there are practical reasons. The Public Health reasons are that vaccines do not prevent transmission. We know that. We dont have good data On Transmission yet, but we know that people who have been double vaccinated can still pick up the virus and they can still pass it on, and some of them will still become unwell, if not severely. So you really want to try and reduce that risk, particularly at the current time. And then practically, testing, as your previous contributor was just saying, is absolutely key. And i think there are concerns about whether, particularly for pcr, theres enough places and capacity in the system to make that available so that people can be tested instead of having to self isolate when they are a contact. Linda, the other thing that strikes me is that the relaxation of the isolation requirements, the Self Isolation requirements, if pinged or contacted by Test And Trace for those who are double vaccinated, is due to come in on august 16th. That is in the middle of the School Summer holidays. A lot of people will have been travelling, will be perhaps returning from foreign travel around then. How much of a Question Mark or uncertainty does that create around perhaps other variants being brought back and the risk that poses . Well, its certainly not without risk. I think the system now is better than it was, for example, last year, as in the checks and balances are there, people have to be tested, theres more documentation they have to provide, etc. But there certainly are risks. If we look earlier in the pandemic, ben, we know from Genomic Studies that were done, for example, In Scotland and wales that we reseeded virus back into the country, for example, last summer through international travel. And we all know from whats happened with the Delta Variant and the big debate about restrictions on people coming from india, so lets recognise that is a risk. And i think the one thing that everybody globally wants to avoid is a variant which genuinely challenges our vaccines. We havent had one, seen one yet, but its certainly not impossible that would happen in the future. But i guess the final point from me on that is that we do have to find a way to continue to minimise risk, but also gradually move back to not living with lots of restrictions because you cant do that indefinitely. Itsjust a really, really challenging period at the moment. Linda, weve seen a lot of perhaps mixed, confused messaging around the obligation, the duty to self isolate if pinged. How much of an effect has that had, do you think, on the public Health Side of things, on Peoples Willingness to follow that instruction if they get it . I think behaviorally it has had an impact. I have not seen a lot of high quality data from, for example, surveys on this, but what we do know, there are facts that people are deleting the app. Even here in Scotland Weve seen quite a big reduction over the last week or so. And i think you had some high profile public figures saying to people to delete the app. But what i would say, again, from a public Health Point of view is the key cornerstone of this is if you test positive, you must still self isolate. Weve done that over the decades for many different conditions that are infectious. If youre a contact, then i think we need another model. But there certainly is, in the population, going to be people who just wont be bothering anymore and, as i say, when weve got cases still rising in many parts of the country, thats obviously of concern to me and to my colleagues. A 92 year old Great Grandmother who set out to create a Knitted Sandringham has had it displayed at the queens norfolk residence, and was invited to a private audience with her majesty in person. Well, Margaret Seamanjoined Me earlier and started by describing that experiece of meeting the queen. I was really thrilled, yes. Ill never forget that day as long as i live. How long did it take you . Its quite an extraordinary artwork, really. It took me two years to complete. I knitted the main house the first year, and then we went into lockdown and i done the second half the second year. We completed it at the beginning of may this year. And how did it come to her majestys attention, resulting in an invitation for you to go and visit . Its been arranged for it to go into sandringham on display, and then at that point we went into lockdown, so i was still working on it at home and obviously in Lockdown And Nothing else happened. And then when lockdown finished, we were invited to go up and set it up in the ballroom on display for the summer, and its in there now until mid october. Margaret, werejust seeing images of it. I mean, two things strike me one, its huge and two, the level of detail is extraordinary. Well, i did take lots and lots of photographs and then i could have them enlarged and see Close Ups of the windows and the doors and the entrances to see how it all went and i copied them. And when when im looking at this, i mean, how do you forgive me if this is a really naive question how do you get the walls and things to stay upright, because its all knitted, isnt it . That is all knitted, yes. But its very difficult to get the colours you want. Theres plenty of wool available, but getting the right colours was more difficult. Theres at least nine different colour greens in the trees. Wow. And margaret, i imagine youll be putting the Knitting Needles down for a little bit of a break after that. But what do you think the next project might be . Oh, i dont know. I havent even had time to think of that at the moment. Ive been so busy and i hope im going up to sandringham certain days in the summer to be there to chat to people, which is lovely, so im pretty busy from now until october. That was Margaret Seaman there. Stay with us, in just a moment werejoined by viewers on Bbc One for a full round up of the days national news. Good afternoon. Enough to make the semifinals, but they know theyll need to improve. We agreed afterwards that thats not kind of reflective of where weve been at in training. But, i mean, its the first race of the olympics, its a good kind of markerfor us to step up from. Other british stars, though, have already found their feet. Well done, Max Max is through. She says anything less than adult will be a fail for her. A win would also make at the first british woman to win gold at three separate games. Currently, most people identified as close contacts of someone with coronavirus have to self isolate for 10 days which the government says is crucial in controlling the spread of the virus. Our Business Correspondent Simon Browning reports. As the days pass, the list grows of Key Workers who qualify for exemption from Covid Isolation in england. Police, fire, borderforce, Transport And Freight staff will now be able tojoin Transport And Freight staff will now be able to join some Food Workers who can return to work if they test negative after being told to isolate. What we need is the government to realise that we have major problems occurring across all industrial sectors because people are being pinned and having to self isolate, and the vast majority of them it happens unnecessarily. Hundreds of Rail Services have been cancelled because of staff absences. With new timetables published to cope with the gaps, some Rail Workers will now qualify for this new testing scheme. The parents of a missing 11 year old girl said they are in a state of shock, as police stepped up their search for her. Fatuma kadir left her home in bolton, On Thursday, and arrived in london in the early hours of friday morning. Sanchia berg joins me now. Sanchia, what more do we know . We know that this was a long and complicated journey involving several trains. And police are very keen to trace a couple who were on the first two legs of Fatumas Journey to london, from bolton to manchester, manchester to birmingham. They are not suggesting the couple had anything to do with her disappearance, but they believe fatuma might have confided in them, have told them her plans, where she was going. One of the largest Music Festivals in europe to be staged since the start of the pandemic is taking place this weekend in sheffield. Around 40,000 people are expected to attend tramline, which is one of the Governments Test events. Therell be no masks or social distancing, but Concert Goers will need to prove theyre fully vaccinated or can show a negative covid test. Corinne wheatley reports. Its a scene we used to take for granted during the festival season. Now it seems a little unfamiliar. The main thing thats changed this year is how you get in. If youre not double vaccinated, you have to do a lateral flow test, i did mine last night, for example, and then log the results on the government website, and then use the Nhs App to bring up your covid pass and show this along with the results of a Health Questionnaire at the entry points. Its extra hoops to jump through, but most people we spoke to say its worth it. Im quite happy to go along with everything if it means getting back into gigs and festivals and everything, Illjust Go along with whatever the organisers want to do. It just feels good to be actually doing something after two years of not doing anything. It just feels great to actually get out. The entry requirements mean a bit of extra organisation forfestival goers, but a huge amount of extra work for festival organisers. They had less than eight weeks from being given the green light to go ahead, to opening the gates, but it all comes at a time of rising covid rates. Weve got to balance what were doing, the positives against the risk. You know, were hugely important culturally, supportive of local businesses, and were trying to do it in a way that minimises the risk for everyone. Tramlines is part of the governments Events Research Programme which also included things like wimbledon and a concert in liverpools sefton park. While there are strict guidelines to follow, the covid risk at these Events Cant be eliminated entirely. If people came to the event with infection then its obviously a very strong possibility of them transmitting it in that setting. From a public Health Point of view, i am concerned. We know mass gathering events are high risk for the spread of infection. I guess, if people adhere to some simple measures, they can probably keep the risk manageable. It wont be zero risk but there will be a degree of risk there. For many people here, in the crowd and on the stage, it is a joyful return. And its certainly a Milestone Organisers say its the biggest festival in europe since the reopening. The outcome of this and other events will be watched closely. Corinne wheatley, Bbc News. Festivals werent the only thing returning this weekend as Park Run got under way again right across england. The free 5k events were due to resume onjune 5th, but were postponed by the delay of coronavirus restrictions easing. Events in Northern Ireland are already back up and running, while In Scotland and wales organisers are aiming to start again on august 14th. You can see more on all of todays stories on the Bbc News channel. The next news on Bbc One is at 5 40pm. Bye for now. Hello. Youre watching the Bbc News channel with me, Ben Boulos its now 1. 52pm. Five different types of Cycling Events are taking place at this years Tokyo Olympics. While the sight of all those athletes on bikes might inspire some of us To Hop on the saddle, not all of our local streets are suitable for cycling, let alone allowing children to Ride On unlike The Netherlands, where a huge portion ofjourneys are made by bike. So what does it take to make a nation one of cyclists . Now its time for a look at the weather with alina jenkins. Hello. For some of us, it is another day of Blue Skies and sunshine and some very high temperatures, particularly across scotland and Northern Ireland. A beautiful morning in dumfries and galloway, but for others there have been some big changes afoot in the last 18 hours. Frequent thunderstorms, torrential rain. This was portsmouth earlier on this morning and there are more thunderstorms to come in the days ahead, all driven by this area of low pressure. Further north, the pressure is higher across scotland and Northern Ireland, here the best of the sunshine and higher temperatures today, but further south we have a Thunderstorm Warning for the met office, mainly across southern England And South wales. More of these to come both are today and in tomorrow. This is what happened through the early hours of the morning. The yellow and red colours indicating the frequent strikes and wiltshire had just over 25 millimetres of rain in just a few hours. A scattering of heavy showers and thunderstorms through central southern England And South wales this afternoon. It will be cooler, but further west we could see highs of 28 celsius across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland, so much cooler further south compared to the heat of the week just further south compared to the heat of the weekjust gone. Some thunderstorms through South Wales this evening, further thunderstorms pushing up from france across East Anglia and South East England later in the night. A lot of cloud for most, clearerskies in the night. A lot of cloud for most, clearer skies the further west and another muggy night, particular across central and southern parts of england. As we head into tomorrow, we still have this area of low pressure turning around, generating further thunderstorms and the main Risk Tomorrow will be through parts of East Anglia, South East England, the midlands and South Wales. We could save you developing across south West Scotland and Northern Ireland, but the more north westerly better chance you you are having a dry day and some sunshine. Still very warm, but notice how those temperatures are starting to come down, they mid or low 20 celsius across the southern half of the uk. Come monday, quite a messy picture. The best way we can describe it is some sunshine, but also frequent showers and some thunderstorms as well. Somewhat hit and miss, the temperatures start to rise again across the southern half of uk, but they tend to dip down into the low 20s celsius, if not the high teens across scotland and Northern Ireland. Compared to the weekjust gone, the week ahead is much more unsettled. All eyes youre watching Bbc News, broadcasting in the uk and Around The World. Im Lucy Hockings live from tokyo.
