Britney spears has a new lawyer in her case to win control of her Business Affairs from her father and shes been celebrating with cartwheels. The husband of a Bbc Radio Presenter who died after having the Astrazeneca Covid Vaccination calls for everyone to be given a choice about which vaccine they have until more research can be carried out into rare Side Effects. While we dont Know this information, while we dont Know how to treat information, while we dont Know how to treat people and who its going to treat people and who its going to affect, to treat people and who its going to affect, maybe the answer is to ive to affect, maybe the answer is to give people the alternative. There are fresh calls for Sugar And Salt taxes to be introduced in england and for vegetables to be prescribed on the nhs. Its part of a wide ranging review into the Nations Health and eating habits, which was commissioned by the government in 2019. The review is calling for what it calls historic reforms of the food system, which it says are needed to protect the nhs and save the environment. Lets Take A Look at the review s main proposals. A Tax Set at £3 Per Kilogram for sugar and £6 Per Kilogram for salt sold for use in processed foods and restaurants which it says could raise as much as £31; billion a year. Some of the money raised from these new taxes could be used to extend Free School Meals to families with a Household Income of £20,000 or less. Theres also a recommendation that the government set a target to reduce the Nations Meat Consumption by 30 over ten years. And a suggestion that the Government Trial a programme which involves gps prescribing Fruit And Vegetables, as well as Food Education, to patients who are suffering the effects or poor Diet Or Food insecurity. 0ur Correspondent Ellie price has more. Its just what the doctor ordered, but not what you might expect. Cathy runs the charity care merseyside, involved in whats called social prescribing. Patients are referred by their local gp, and then offered things like Exercise Support and cooking advice. Here, they also provide healthy food to low income families. From the point of referral, we assess a persons needs. We assess what it is they need support with, and we offer them a various range of levels of support. So what we aim to do is to reduce gp consultations, to reduce hospitaLisations, and to try and tackle in a holistic way, how to help people improve their health and well being. Maureens got a number of physical and Mental Health issues, and has used the local Prescribing Service in different ways. Todays report recommends the government tries out projects like this across the country, with the aim to improve Peoples Health and reduce the cost to the nhs of treatment. I try not to get emotional, but i find it very difficult to manage. If we had an Ideal Amount of Fruit And Veg in our diet, it would be easier to create stuff, i suppose, that was easy to eat. You need variety, and its the variety that costs. I could pay for it, but it means something else has to go, and it means we go In The Red instead of staying in the black, and i cant cope with the worry of being In The Red. Todays report says a poor diet contributes to 64,000 deaths every year in england alone, and costs the economy an estimated £74 Billion. Theres an environmental impact too globalfood production is the second biggest contributor to climate change. The report recommends a tax on sugary and Salty Foods. If producers dont change their recipes to use less, it could mean a Price Increase of 15 25 for desserts, biscuits and sweets. The report also calls for Food Education in schools to be taken more seriously. Thats exactly what andrew hartshorn, a teacher in coventry, is already trying to do. And by the way, his students dont say, yes, sir, they say, 0ui, chef. This has got to be a sustained effort with lots of support across the country, support in the classroom, helping fund ingredients, ensuring its place on the curriculum, ensuring its place on the timetable is safeguarded. It needs to be supported for our parents at home, so theyre able to access ingredients. The national Food Strategy estimates its recommendations would cost around {1. 4 Billion a year, and bring in Up To £3. 1i billion a year in tax revenue. For the reports author, the cost of doing nothing would be terrible damage to the environment and to our bodies. Ellie price, Bbc News. The review was led by the Co Founder of the leon restaurant chain, henry dimbleby. He explained the findings. So, the current way people think in this country is what you need to do about diet related disease is educate people, we need to exercise and a set willpower. The corollary is that is if you cant get off your bum and exercise, its your own fault. Simply, none of that is true. Exercise is a fantastic benefit in itself but its not very good at helping you lose weight. We tell these People Exercise will help them lose weight, they go to the gym, they dont lose weight and they stop exercising. Exercise is fantastic its just not good at helping you lose weight. There is an interaction between the commercial incentives of companies and our appetite. We find the speeds they are marketing delicious, they dont make us feel as quickly, we eat more, they invest more, we eat more, they invest more. There have been 14 previous Obesity Plans in this country and almost all of them have been voluntary measures. Youre not going to break thisjunk food cycle, this interaction between our appetite and the commercial incentive of companies, unless you tackle it directly, and that is what we are recommending with the Sugar And Salt reformulation tax. Its not a tax increase price, its to make the companies to formulate, as they did with the sugary drinks tax, they take the bad stuff out and make the worst food better. Ben thompson is at a farm in leeds this morning, getting reaction to the report. Good morning to you from leeds. We have come down to The Farm to get a sense of what that report could mean for the Farming Industry but also for the wider Food Industry because there are three key findings in it. 0ne suggesting there should be a greater tax on salt and sugar. We should also be consuming less red meat. But also that there needs to be better education about where our food comes from and how it is produced. Let me introduce you to angela, The Farmer here. Good morning. Look, that education point, first of all, is a really interesting one, isnt it, because what you do on The Farm is make sure people Know where their food comes from. Yes, we are an open farm. We are open to the public. We do a lot of School Trips and it is really important that these children realise where their food comes from. A lot of them think that milk comes from the supermarket and obviously, it doesnt, it comes from a cow, and we explain that to them. And it is notjust children, though, isnt it . I Know you have got a butcher on site come here, for example. It is about educating some of the adults that come here to about what goes into producing food and the job that you do here on The Farm. Yes, we produce all our own meat that goes into the butchers and we also use that meat in our cafe as well. And it is just people Knowing what cuts are what and speaking to the Butcher And Learning about meat. We said as well, one of the findings of the report is to eat less red meat. What would that mean for you as a farmer . And i suppose, for the industry because looking around, you have got a lot of cattle. Yes, so we produce all of our own meat for our own butcher, as i said, but i feel that if the English Public bought english meat, then british farmers would do 0k. The problem will be when all of the cheap imports come on. And that is because you are suggesting that Food Standards here, and the quality of care for animals, in your view, is better in this country. Yes, british Animal Standards are the best in the world, and obviously, that Costs Money to produce an animal. And we care that they have a good life while they are with us. Whereas in other countries, they are mass produced and they dont have the same standard. Yes, and i Know on this farm, you have been diversifying a lot, too, so you have a farm shop, a garden centre, all sorts of different things as well as the school visits. How has it been, this last 18 months, forfarmers . It has been a tough time for everyone, but how has it been for you . It has, it has been very tough but what we have found is that people are now going back to their local butchers rather than buying from the supermarkets. So, we have actually had some new customers who are now using local butchers. So, in that respect, we are very pleased but it has been extremely tough. Angela, good luck and thanks for having us today, really nice to see. As angela was saying, so many implications of this report. The government says it will now look at the findings and come up with some proposals for the Food Industry over the next six months. But yes, those three key findings, really, taxing Sugar And Salt more, eating less meat, and crucially, better education that is done in places like this, reminding people what goes into producing food and exactly where it comes from. At least nine people have died and more than 70 are missing after heavy Rain And Flooding in south western germany. Lets bring in our Germany Correspondent damien mcguinness, in berlin. Tell us whats been happening. Police are saying this is a really confused situation which is because the Storm Hit so many different areas, in one of germanys most Densely Populated parts of the country. Areas affected include rhineland palatinate, Border Regions with france. Whats been happening is weve had very heavy rains and unpredictable weather, a lot of storms over the past few weeks but over the past 2a hours in that particular region, people had seen the highest level of Rain Theyve ever seen since records began. People are talking about an extraordinary situation theyve never experienced. Weve got incredible pictures of medieval houses almost submerged, fans being swept away, because submerged. The consequence, first of all the terrible loss of life, that could be as many as nine people now with 70 missing. Then the knock on consequences because this is such a Densely Populated state. Transport links are cut off, around 200,000 people lost electricity last night. This is a really dangerous situation. People in the area right now, The Rain has eased off but more rain is expected later this afternoon and the area of low pressure is due to move on to Southern Germany late on so this isnt over yet. Southern germany late on so this isnt over yet the government has defended the decision to put Majorca And Ibiza on the Amber List for travel just two weeks after they were moved to green. It means that from monday morning, most Holiday Makers returning to the uk from the Spanish Islands will have to isolate for ten days unless theyre fully vaccinated. Andrew walker reports. A warm mediterranean beach is a tempting prospect for many after more than a year of restrictions. Some saw the spanish Balearic Islands as an appealing choice for a summer getaway. But the changes announced by the government will cause problems for some, like medi, whos due to fly to majorca at the weekend. Ive had one vaccine three weeks ago. I Know from Monday People who are double vaccinated dont need to quarantine when they return from Amber List countries. However, i will need to quarantine, and thats not great for my Mental Health, but im very lucky i can work from home. Infection rates have doubled on the island since they were added to the green Watch Listjust over two weeks ago. The Government Traffic Light system puts countries with the least severe covid situations into the green category. No quarantine is required for returning travellers. Bulgaria and Hong Kong are being added. Then theres the green Watch List, which is a warning that the country is at risk of moving to the next category, which is amber. Adult travellers have to quarantine for ten days. From monday, that will no longer apply to those who are fully vaccinated. Many young people arent, so they will be affected as the Balearic Islands moves to amber. And for Red List countries, quarantine in a special hotel is required. Four countries, including indonesia and cuba, are being added. And from the government, a warning that further changes to the lists are possible. I think we all Know by now that travelling at the moment is not the same as it was before there was a global pandemic. And it does mean that when people book, particularly if youre booking to a green Watch List country, you need to make sure you can get your money back. You need to make sure you can reach your accommodation whenever required. The changes come into force at 4am on monday. They will also apply in wales and scotland. Northern ireland is expected to follow suit, though it will be a further week before the Amber List exemption from quarantine for fully vaccinated adults applies there. Andrew walker, Bbc News. The Prime Minister is to give a speech in the West Midlands on what he calls his Levelling Up programme at a time when some conservatives are worried that the partys traditional supporters are being neglected. She said, im tired. I gave her a kiss and then i never spoke to her again. As a result of your wifes death, what do you want to see happen now . The scary thing for me is that the vaccines are being given to people and have been given to people and we were aware earlier in the year, and were aware earlier in the year, and we are aware, that these vaccines come with certain risks. Um. But for whatever reason, we dont Know who these adverse reactions are going to appear in. It is a lottery. And. That thought is quite scary, that, you Know, people are getting these jabs and we dont Know whether it is going to have a bad reaction or not, and. The guys in the hospital that were treating Lisa, as i say, they didnt really Know what they were facing. They didnt Know how to treat it. And for me, in a situation like that, you Know, and i say this, and i am absolutely not an anti vaccine, but i say this and i think a while we dont Know this information, while we dont Know how to treat people, why we dont Know who it is going to affect, maybe the answer is to give people the alternative. Over 81 Million doses of vaccines against covid 19 have now been administered in the uk, Saving Thousands of lives through the biggest Vaccination Programme that has ever taken place in this country. No effective Medicine Or Vaccine is without risk and our advice remains that the benefits of the Astrazeneca Vaccine outweigh the risks in the majority of people and it is still vitally important that people come forward for their vaccination and for their second dose when invited to do so. And as i say, the work that these people have done to get the country back on its feet is outstanding, but. We need to recognise that there are families who have been affected by this jab, you Know . I dont want anybody else to have to tell their children that their mummy s not coming home. So as i say, if she can be remembered in that way, you Know, she has done some good, that would be a positive. Gareth, i am so, so sorry. Thank you very much for talking to us today. Thanks. Listening in to that is our medical editor fergus walsh. Tell us more about the condition we are talking about here. Heartbreaking to listen to that, and gareth is absolutely right that there does need to be a focus on the Side Effects and potential risks of vaccines, as well as the benefits. People need to make an informed choice. Let me tell you about this particular condition. 0bviously, choice. Let me tell you about this particular condition. Obviously, in Lisas case, we have to wait for the inquest, but the Coroners Certificate mentions complications of the Astrazeneca Vaccine, her first dose. And there is a Known Side Effect, likely Side Effect, very rare, Known as vaccine induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia, vit t, a condition where clots form in combination with low Platelet Levels and that is something that does not happen naturally. Therefore, the medical regulator, the mhra, thinks there is a strong likelihood that it is the vaccine causing this. We have had just under 400 cases of that, most of them after the first dose, and we have had 71 deaths. So it is about one death per 650,000 doses. Now, all medicines, including vaccines, have risks as well as benefits. But do you have too obviously set that against, for individuals and society, against the risks that you are trying to caution against and prevent, which is covid and with covid, there has been something like 1900 deaths per million people in the uk and of course, covid itself is Known to be a serious cause of Blood Clots, something like one in five people are hospitalised with covid who are hospitalised with covid who are hospitalised with covid who are hospitalised with covid will end p are hospitalised with covid will end up with Blood Clots. So are hospitalised with covid will end up with Blood Clots. Up with Blood Clots. So the figures ou have up with Blood Clots. So the figures you have given up with Blood Clots. So the figures you have given us up with Blood Clots. So the figures you have given us there, up with Blood Clots. So the figures you have given us there, and i i you have given us there, and i talked to gareth about, show that this condition is rare. And when we look at vaccines, any vaccine, there is the balance of the risks versus the benefits, under there . That is ritht the benefits, under there . That is ri. Ht and the benefits, under there . That is right and with the benefits, under there . That is right and with this the benefits, under there . That is right and with this condition, i i right and with this condition, i mean, it was first identified in march. It did not crop up in the trials, the global trials of this vaccine, because it is so rare. But it first started being investigated in around march. Haematologists really went on a real quest to discover what was happening here, and it relates. It is very similar to a condition caused very rarely by a Blood Thinner called heparin, where, for some reason, the body seems to create antibodies against platelets. We want the Immune System to create antibodies against covid but in these very rare cases, it seems to create antibodies against platelets, and they start to clump together and you get low Platelet Levels as well. And the Fatality Rate was initially much higher but it is something like 17 now. There is some suggestion that there is a slightly higher risk in women than men but it is not absolutely Clear, and slightly higher incidence in younger people, and that is why initially, the jcvi, younger people, and that is why initially, thejcvi, the body that recommends what vaccines go to which age groups, said, ok, well, we are not going to give, we think people under 30 should not have the Astrazeneca Vaccine, and that policy was introduced, and then in may, early may, they said actually, people under 40 should have moderna or pfizer, and that is the policy now. ,. ,. ,. , now. Gareth eve does not want anyone to to now. Gareth eve does not want anyone to go through now. Gareth eve does not want anyone to go through what now. Gareth eve does not want anyone to go through what his now. Gareth eve does not want anyone to go through what his family now. It is fair to say i dont do that. It is fair to say that other countries have taken a different view. In australia, for example, they are not giving the vaccine to those below the age of 60 at one point. But every country, at every stage of the epidemic, changes the Risk Benefit analysis. If there is no covid at all, then Clearly, theres more risk to taking a vaccine but as now we have a rising epidemic, actually, the Risk Benefit from the vaccine for younger people would actually be in favour of having astrazeneca than not being vaccinated at all but because we have sufficient supply of these rna vaccines which are less implicated, thatis vaccines which are less implicated, that is why they have got sufficient stocks and you can say younger people can have an alternative vaccine. , ~ people can have an alternative vaccine. ,. ,. ,. , vaccine.
