I started to get calls telling me that people were concerned because they were living in an identical building and i had to go out for myself and check the building and in fact it is the identical building and i had the Building Official give me the information, it was built around the same time by the same contractor, seemingly with the same plans and presumably with the same materials, and given that and given the fact that the Sister Building had just fallen down without notice, without warning, people were justifiably upset, and asked me if i thought the building was safe and the answer was i couldnt tell them it was safe. So what we have done is ive reached out to Florida Senator Rick Scott and our County Mayor and expressed my concern about what to do. We decided that it was best to give residents the option to relocate for a short period of time while we did a Forensic Deep Dive into the guts of the building to determine if it was in fact structurally sound or not, and we are moving in that direction, tomorrow i expect to be able to start moving people out that wish to be moved out. I would say every state in the us is struggling with the Opioid Crisis and it is a very expensive problem, spanning access to treatment is expensive and dealing with all of the health and social consequences of an epidemic of addiction is expensive, and it makes sense for states to look at the companies that created this mess for the money to help clean it up. Are you happy enough to see settlements like this . You are obviously pursuing or interested in these pharmaceuticals going on trial as such, but if the money is made available, that is the most important thing, isnt it . First off, you have 200 million, when you consider the damage that was done byJohnson Johnson in the state of New York, i think it is actually a small sum, but we really need a lot more than money from these companies. We need to look very carefully at how this crisis happened, how the pursuit of profit by Corporations Led to a public health catastrophe. One of the problems with these settlements is that many of the internal documents that would have come forward in a trial become sealed and shredded, and The Public does not get the opportunity to learn about the wrongdoing that created the mess. And i think, the more The Public learns about what happened, the better able we are to prevent future catastrophes. One of the problems i suppose is that if various medicines, drugs, are regulated, are approved, the manufacturers of those drugs and distributors are just doing what they are allowed to do, arent they . That is their argument and it is true that it is notjust corporate greed that led to this massive loss of life and an epidemic of addiction, there were also serious regulatory failures. It is sort of like the santa anas they have in california, as air sinks down off the high terrain, it gets compressed and warmed and that is going to drive temperatures here in seattle to 110, maybe 112 degrees tomorrow. You said in your blog, you mentioned portland as well possibly going through the roof. Thats right, portland has already broken the all time record. It got up to 112 today, they will probably get 115 tomorrow. Theyre getting more than 5 10 degrees above some all time records, that is extremely unusual. And it seems also there is going to be, maybe not quite as dramatic. A dramatic fall in temperatures to follow. This sort of differential between these extreme eyes, a drop down to almost chilly. We have cold Water Right nearby. The Pacific Ocean is only about 50 degrees so as soon the wind switches to onshore, the Temperatures Drop to about 65 degrees.
