Warship found at a Bus Stop . And holders portugal have been knocked out of the eurotwenty twenty Football Tournament by the worlds top ranked team belgium. Hello and welcome to audiences in the uk and around the world. In florida, around 150 people are still unaccounted for four days after the collapse of a 12 storey Apartment Block. Officials in miami said the Death Toll from the disaster had risen to nine after four more bodies were found in the ruins. Officials in miami said the Death Toll from the disaster had risen to nine after four more bodies were found in the ruins. The building was in the town of surfside in miami dade county, a residential complex called Champlain Towers which crumbled to the ground in just 12 seconds trapping people inside. Rescuers have been searching the rubble of the 55 apartments using Dog Teams and Sonar Equipment in the hope of finding survivors. Our correspondent Will Grant is at the scene and sent us this report. These things arent supposed to happen in america. The infrastructure of the richest country in the world, in one of its richest cities, is meant to be solid and reliable. But when the 12 storeys of Champlain Towers collapsed, almost 160 residents disappeared beneath the rubble in seconds. Only a handful have been found. As of today, one victim passed away in the hospital, and weve recovered eight more victims on site, so i am confirming today that the Death Toll is at nine. Theirfamilies can now only pray for a miracle. At the local church, the priest read the list of parishioners missing since the collapse. A Quiet Seaside Community now ripped apart. Yet while hope remains, the families and survivors are clinging to it. One churchgoer s family had a Miraculous Escape and are struggling to comprehend how their small apartment is still standing. I have a lot of Survivors Guilt on this, you know . Why me, and why not my neighbour from 604 . She was a lovely lady, you know, and i saw a picture of her, you know, and Ijust Cant see anybody, you know. I hope to god that theyre going to find somebody, but, man, you know, if you saw what i saw, nothingness, and then you go over there and you see, like, all the rubble, how can somebody survive that . There is little for the families to do but continue to wait for information. Many have said that they do truly believe they could still be reunited with their relatives. Others have now accepted the grim fact that the chances they survived are very slim indeed. Yesterday, It Wasjusti so surreal, you know, all this energy of this i acceptance, and denial, acceptance and loss, but i know that in my heart they are most probably in heaven now. Like, us catholics believe they are in heaven. As the work goes on, more than 150 people are still to be found. The moment this Community Fears next is hearing that this has moved from a Search And Rescue operation to one of search and recovery. Will grant, bbc news, miami. Thousands of people in bangladesh are scrambling to leave the Capital Dhaka to head to rural areas before the start of a strict nationwide lockdown. Police have described some of the crowds of Migrant Workers trying to get out as unmanageable. Theres a danger that the exodus will worsen the Countrys Surge of Delta Variant Coronavirus cases which the government has described as dangerous and alarming. The bbc s Elettra Neysmith reports. This is what happens when the authorities announce the toughest of lockdowns. Tens of thousands of people desperate to leave dhaka before it kicks in. Many here are Migrant Workers who fear they have no choice. Lockdown mean no work, and no work means no money for Food Or Rent to look afterfamilies. The sharp rise in covid cases means Rail And Bus services are already suspended. These ferries are one of the only ways out. Police say the numbers are unmanageable. Health officials fear it can only add to already soaring cases of the Delta Variant sweeping the country. Bangladesh has recorded its highest daily Death Toll from covid. The government has described it as dangerous and alarming. Vaccinations offer a way out, but the roll out here has been slow. Partly because of the halt of vaccine exports from india. But there is good news. 2. 5 million doses of the Moderna Vaccine are being gifted to bangladesh from the united states, under the covax programme, the global initiative aimed at providing equal access to vaccines. Its hope, but with a population of 170 million, things may well get worse before an impact. Asif saleh is an Executive Director of an Ngo Working On fighting the pandemic in bangladesh. He gave his view on the lockdowns. I on the lockdowns. Think this is a bit of a stop and i think this is a bit of a stop and start, there has been restrictions but is been fairly loose because government also have to manage the economic fallout of a lockdown, so they have to be carefully orchestrated. It is not an enviable position to be an apple because the economy has been hurt as well and that during the last couple of lockdowns, so the government has to manage that aspect as well. Unlike the last two waves, during the slave, this is be different because this is kind of starting from the border districts and closing into the capital as opposed to last time when the spread has been mostly limited into the Capital City of the other major city. So this time it we are very worried because the spread is pretty wide across the border. And it has now gone into rural areas and where the Health Infrastructure is very weak. So the worry is that this will come the fatality today, you heard that highest ever since the pandemic started in bangladesh broke the previous record. And it is likely to continue to go higher, so the worry is twofold, both that the health and for structure may collapse in the outside districts and at the same time there would be an economic fallout because of the lockdown. Britains new Health Secretary Sajid Javid says his immediate priority is to get the country through the pandemic so life can return to normal as quickly as possible. Hes returning to the government to replace Matt Hancock who resigned after pictures emerged of him breaching social distancing with his passionate embrace of an aide in his office. Our political correspondent Ben Wright reports. After 18 months away from the cabinet, Sajid Javid is back, an old hand in a newjob. The former Chancellor And Home secretary arrived at the Department Of Health this morning and the cameras outside were ready. We are still in a pandemic and i want to see that come to an end as soon as possible and that will be my most immediate priority, to see that we can return to normal as soon and as quickly as possible. Mrjavid was appointed quickly following Matt Hancocks resignation last night. On friday, images were published of him kissing a colleague in his office. By breaking the governments own Covid Rules, mr hancocks political credibility was damaged and his personal authority was tarnished because of the way his affair was exposed. At first, Matt Hancock hoped an apology would be enough to cling on. And number ten stuck by him, repeatedly saying that it considered the matter closed. But privately, senior tories were telling downing Street And Mr hancock that his position was untenable. Labour said borisjohnson should have sacked his Health Secretary on friday. Matt hancock was right to resign because he broke the rules, he had to go. But the Prime Minister should have sacked him. Yet again, Boris Johnson was too slow, too weak and didnt show the leadership that was needed. And then theres the question of how on earth these images were captured from inside Matt Hancocks private office. Was it cctv or a Hidden Camera . Ministers want answers. Viewers will have seen this morning some coverage in the press around what people are saying has happened. The Department Of Health will be investigating this, quite rightly, to understand how this was able to happen, put aside what was on the pictures, the fact that it was leaked at all. Camera shutters click. Sajid javid has a daunting in tray, from dealing with an ongoing pandemic to an nhs under pressure. He will also have a big say over Covid Rules and may have a different view to his predecessor. I dont imagine that actually his caution will be diminished when it comes to the pandemic but i certainly think his view could be defined as a lot more liberal when it comes to covid restrictions. Tomorrow Sajid Javid is expected to update mps on the Governments Target for lifting all remaining covid restrictions in england next month. He is a new voice around the table with big decisions to make. Ben wright, bbc news. Let s get some of the days other news. The South African President , cyril ramaphosa, has imposed strict new measures to tackle an alarming rise in covid infections, which he says poses a grave challenge. For the next two Weeks Alcohol sales are to be banned and all gatherings including political and religious ones are not allowed. Official figures from Russia Show Thereve been nearly 4,000 Covid Related Deaths there over the past week a new record. Both moscow and St Petersburg have registered their highest ever daily totals and St Petersburg is due to Host Euro 2020 quarter final match in the coming days. Parts of the Pacific Northwest of the united states are experiencing a record heatwave. The us national Weather Service has issued warnings of excessive heat across nearly all of washington and oregon states. Parts of California And Idaho are also affected along with southwestern canada. Classified british Ministry Of Defence documents including details about the warship Hms Defender have been found at a Bus Stop in south East England by a member of The Public. After the papers were passed to the bbc, the government acknowledged a serious breach of security and an investigation has been launched. Our diplomatic correspondent Paul Adams reports. When Hms Defender left the Ukrainian Port Of Odessa last week, at the start of a journey likely to draw hostile attention from russia, secret documents about its mission were lying in a soggy heap behind a Bus Stop in kent. The documents show that officials were keenly aware that Sailing Close to the coast of crimea, which russia annexed in 2014, could cause an incident. What do we understand about the possible welcome party, one of them asked . This map shows two possible routes. The one marked in green would challenge russias claims of sovereignty. Possible russian responses could range from safe and professional to neither safe nor professional. To sail further south could be interpreted by russia as a sign the uk was being scared and running away. Hands to action stations. Hms defender took the green route. Russias response was hostile. This wasnt the point of the exercise, but the documents show that this was hardly unexpected. All that is now in the past but the papers dont stop there. There is much more. The range of material is quite alarming because it covers relations with russia, with Hms Defender, it covers afghanistan, it covers arms exports, relations with the united states. The level of classification of all this stuff is not all that high but anything classified shouldnt be going outside the mod, covering this range of issues. One issue perhaps, but not this range of issues. Thats pretty sensitive. Nato is in the middle of withdrawing from afghanistan. Britain is still negotiating with its partners, especially the americans, about what kind of British Military presence might remain. One document makes a number of recommendations with dates, locations and numbers. And there are warnings. Any Uk Footprint in afghanistan that persist is assessed to be vulnerable to targeting by a complex network of actors. The government says the loss of documents is now being looked at. I think it is a serious breach in the Ministry Of Defence, ive spoken to the Defence Secretary, they are taking forward an internal investigation into how this happened. Labour says the crew of Hms Defender did theirjob well last week but the Security Lapse shows the government did not. I want to see the Defence Secretary complete his investigation urgently. Come to the House Of Commons this week to reassure The Public about what has happened. Were there any military operations put at risk . This whole episode has been more embarrassing than damaging. If the material had fallen into other hands, officials know it could have been worse. Paul adams, bbc news. Thousands of people in Bangladesh Scramble to leave the Capital Dhaka ahead of a new covid lockdown. In france, Exit Polls indicate that marine Le Pens far right national rally has failed in its bid to win a regional election for the first time. It did worse than expected in its Target Areas of provence, and the region around calais in the north. Our correspondent in Paris Hugh Schofield explained how these elections are a blow to the president s party as well as the far right in france. In far right in france. This election, her party has come in this election, her party has come out worse. You could say Macrons Party has done pretty badly to them that is certainly the case. They got hammered in the case. They got hammered in the first round and some regions they did even qualify for round two. Yes, they are not coming out with a smile on theirface either but not coming out with a smile on their face either but the national rally are hit worse because they had much higher expectations. Theyre really trying to do with this in the natural party of the switch of a power which they say miss come next year when macron has the face elections at the president ial but if that is the case and they fell very badly at this first big challenge, they were hoping to come away this weekend and the second round with a one region which was the which they still could have won even if they scored badly last weekend but they did it and that man down there came from a 43 for the Centre Right. It is a big blow for the melodic question going on No Doubt inside her party at this very moment. This very moment. Who does emerue this very moment. Who does emerge with this very moment. Who does emerge with a this very moment. Who does emerge with a smile this very moment. Who does emerge with a smile on this very moment. Who does emerge with a smile on their face . The Centre Right. To a lesser degree, the old left. Essentially, not a single region, there are 12, 13 if you count the metropolitan france, theyve all stated with the same party that helped them before. Theres been no changeover at all. Which i suppose is largely a function of the fact that if you wanted to vote against something in the french tend to vote against the french tend to vote against the powers that be, you vote against macron, so the anti macron vote which was a natural vote turned into a vote for whoever was in power, so as the Centre Right already gained ever possessed or controlled most regions, the other ones of the biggest share of the boat this time around and it does because the challenge to macron is coming from the right, the choice is between the Centre Right in the far right as to who is the main challenger and i think theres been a Shift Tonight and the result of these elections which makes it much less inevitable that there will be a macron depend runoff at the president ial next year. Eight macron and marine la pen runoff. Chinas national Space Administration has released new photos and videos captured by its Mars Probe during the countrys first landing and roving exploration on the red planet. The footage also includes sequences from joo Ruungs Landing in may, showing the deployment of its Parachute System and the moment of touchdown. To find out more about chinas mars mission, ive been speaking to keith cowing, a former Nasa Employee whos now editor of the Nasa Watch website Cool Pictures from another planet are always welcome in my house. The interesting thing about this as this is the first time china has landed something on mars. Yet theyre pretty much done everything that the us is done on a whole series of missions. The intriguing thing to me is just how perfectly they did this the first time. What is most impressiveyou know, sometimes a picture is worth A Thousand words, but if i were working on this mission, being able to see the parachute deploys is dead what is most impressive . Sometimes a picture is worth A Thousand words, but if i were working on this mission, being able to see the parachute deploys is dead and then being able to see the rover do its thing on the surface, from an Engineering Point of view, is very useful. It does help expense a very large audience just what they have accomplished, and what is going on on mars. How would you sum up differences between the chinese and american approach and the russians, i suppose . There are several ways to learn things on mars and what they did this have a relatively large, but not the super large rover, we have one the size of the many they have won the size of a golf cart. They landed it with parachutes and rockets whereas we, since we have monstrous rovers, have a Sky Crane that comes in and drops the rover down on a hoist and then lets it go. Prior to this error rovers, which were about the size of chinas, inside every big Beach Ball which bounced and deflated, so what theyve done is taking a technology we used back in the 70s with some things we are using on the 21st century. Again, more than one way to land on mars. You have to decide how big your rocket is, how big your rover is going to be, what your risks are, how to do what you have never done before. Again, for china, it all worked splendidly. It sounds fascinating, for each side to watch what the other side is doing and how. Constant process of lessons being learned. Yes, and of course, the issue does come up eventually, is there a race to mars . When you have a race you have to have at least one of the people involved thinking there is a race. If the other person doesnt act like theres a raise, that there probably isnt a race. In reality, what youve got here is the increased interest in mars and the fact it is not just the us and russia that have the ability, it is now the us and Russia And China and India And Japan and europe and other countries that get to go. Out of chaos comes confusion and sometimes out of competition you get more collaboration, when you have more than one nation involved in doing these things, even if one mission fails, there is another one there to pick up the slack. There is a beauty in terms of redundancy and having a lot of people doing this. At the end of the Day Everybody wants a country to be Number One but they also want to be participating with everyone else. What is the next dramatic development . Landing on mars, that in itself is brilliant and amazing to see. I suppose it might be bringing the evidence back on . The evidence back home . That is the thing. It is one thing to go there and drive around and take pictures and see what and so forth, the other is the Holy Grail of mars Sample Return. The current plan for america and europe, gets complicated, i warn you. Our current Rover Perseverance will grab a bunch of samples and leave them some where, the European Leader or come down to the rover that dries fast, grab the samples and watch them into orbit around mars and another spacecraft will catch and bring it back to earth that will happen in seven or eight years. China has shown a methodical approach to things on the moon, really started later, they bring the sample back. I would not be surprised, i do have evidence, but i would not be surprised if the next Mission China seems to mars would attempt to do Sample Return and they might even do it before we do. Briefly, can you say future in which the us and china will collaborate in space . They do, they have an unfortunately right now, you could have the new space Mission China is putting up a design such as american and russian spacecraft could dock with it. The chinese Space Craft can dock with the international Space Station, so it is not rocket science, its politics. The one thing i remind people of this, if you look at the us and russia right now, kind of arguing about things on earth, but if you look at the international Space Station, with other than a few minor blips if you are there, for 20 years not only the us and Russia Butjapan and canada and europe and a whole bunch of countries have gotten along remarkably well. You have to ask yourself, what is it we are doing in space that we are getting right, in terms of cooperation and collaboration, that maybe just had to do a few things back on earth . Also, every time we threaten sanctions and so forth, the Space Station seems to not be part of the discussion. Again, not having china in that mix, i think we are missing something. We are not there yet, there are some other discussions amongst the politicians that have to happen first. To the football now and its been an important night at the European Championship with some of the favourites of the tournament going head to head to book a place in the quarterfinals. First up it was the Czech Repulic who delivered the tournaments first real shock by defeating the netherlands by two goals to nil. The match turned after the thirtieth minute when the Dutch Defender De Lig T was red carded for a deliberate handball. The Czech Republic took full advantage, scoring two goals in front of a full stadium in budapest. And then it was belgiums turn to deliver the goods against holders portugal which they did with a moment of class from their striker thorgan hazard. The winger driving home a shot from outside The Box to take the victory one goal to nil. For all the latest that scrimmages go to the bbc website. For all of the latest scores, go to the bbc website. Most of us thought a bit of sunshine at some point during the course of the weekend in some places will see a little bit more through the coming week, especially across the northern half of the uk. A north south split for our weather at the moment, a lot of dry weather with sunshine and the north but further south more Cloud Review showers or longest of the Rain Thunderstorms and around as well. Very mixed fortunes this week with a Pipe Tumbling and across scotland and northern ireland, low pressure sitting close to Southern England and that will be throwing though showers up across many southern parts of england and wales. Monday dons on a cloudy night for England Wales and initially some Heavy Rain for the southwest, we will see further heavy showers developing for East Anglia and the southeast as well. Hit and miss and if you do cats one of these heavy downpours across Southern England, it could be hail and torrential rain. Bringing the risk of look alike flooding and perhaps travel disruption for the further north a much different story. A lot of dry weather was sunshine for northern ireland, scotland in the far north of england. Of course today, it marks the start of the championships at wimbledon. We may well see a bit of Rain Interrupting pay for a time monday and tuesday, things look drier in a bit warmer later in the week. Heading through Monday Evening and overnight, further heavy showers and thunderstorms in the south, if you sponsor to the south, if you sponsor to the further north as well, much of Northern England, scotland and northern either remaining largely clear and dry so temperatures getting down at the single figures and wanted to sponsor staying very mild and humanly feeling down towards the southeast. Somewhere are the same on tuesday for England Wales come in fairly cloudy day, the further South And East to Arkham Charts are catching a fume or heavy showers and especially for parts of southern and eastern england the afternoon and some Thunderstorms Hail and torrential downpour is. What a difference further North And Light winds and a lot of sunshine from Northern England and scotland. One or two variable showers with temperatures up to about 24 degrees. It looks eventually from about Wednesday Onwards that low pressure will start to ease away towards the near continent and higher pressure will build later in the week, more widely across the uk. Before Weather Fronts pushing for the weekend. But from Wednesday Onwards, and a lot of places seeing drier and warmer weather under way before showers pushing their way in from the west during the course of the weekend. Goodbye for now.
