And coming up in sport on the Bbc News channel. Disappointment for the defending womens champion Simona Halep, whos forced to pull out of wimbledon because of a calf injury. Good Afternoon And Welcome to the Bbc News at one. The Health Secretary Matt hancock has apologised and admitted he breached social distancing guidlines, after the Sun Newspaper published a photograph of him in an embrace with one his closest aides. The photo is said to have been taken in may, in Mr Hancocks whitehall office. In a statement in the last hour the Health Secretary said, ive let people down and im very sorry. He added, i remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter. Our political correspondent Ben Wright is at westminster. Lots of developments here in the last hour . ,. , , lots of developments here in the last hour . ,. , ,. , last hour . Yes, thats right. This i going on in westminster. This mornings front page of the sun was very grim for Matt Hancock. Grainy pictures, somehow taken from what looked like a Cctv Camera within his own department, of the Health Secretary embracing a woman who was not his aide. We heard nothing from Mr Hancock for several hours, a spokesman said that it was a personal matter under no rules were broken. It seemed they hoped this would peter out as the day wore on. The Health Secretary then cancelled a visit to a vaccine testing site, in his constituency. In the last hour he released a statement he read out, effectively saying that the story is true, and accepting that he breached social distancing guidelines. He has apologised, and he hopes that this now will take the sting out of the story. But i think the problem is, these are social distancing guidelines that Matt Hancock was central to devising. And he had been telling us to follow them for the last few months. He accepted in a statement he broke those rules. Its also difficult for him that he was very strong in condemning professor neil ferguson, the government advisor, the start of the government advisor, the start of the pandemic, when he was caught breaching government guidance. I think that remains a problem for Mr Hancock, despite a statement he has issued. There is another big issue. The aide he was seen embracing, an old friend of his, was appointed as a Nonexecutive Director in the department last year, and labour want to know if the process was as transparent as it could have been and if there might have been a conflict of interest. Labour thinks he should be resigning. Of course we have been through a period where grandparents havent been able to hug their grandchildren. Ive just come off a call right now with some of my local nurses, who have been following the rules to the letter, who are really struggling, currently, to deal with the impact of covid still. I honestly think that now is the time when the Prime Minister needs to get a grip on the situation. He simply hasnt done so until now. He needs to act. Matt hancock, this lunchtime, clearly has no intention of resigning and plans to tough it out. The key question is what number 10 things. We are expecting a briefing any minute now between journalists and the Prime Ministers official spokesman, and he will be asked many times whether the Prime Minister has full confidence in his Health Secretary. We will know soon whether or not he has the backing of number 10. . , ~ ,. , or not he has the backing of number 10. . , ~ i. ,. , or not he has the backing of number 10. . ,. ,. , ~ 10. Travel operators are reporting a surge in bookings to holiday destinations including the Baleriac Islands and malta, after yestserday S Easing of some restrictions. But Industry Leaders say the changes still dont go far enough and that the government has created more confusion for Holiday Makers. The transport secretary, grant shapps, insists that the best thing for the industry is to gradually reopen foreign travel. From wednesday, people returning from these destinations including malta, madeira and spains Balearic Islands will no longer have to quarantine although theyre on the so called green watchlist , meaning they could turn amber at short notice. Theres already been a surge in flight bookings to the spanish islands. The amber and red lists still cover the majority of the world. Most popular European Tourist destinations are on the Amber List, where holidays are not advised. But the government has said anyone whos been double vaccinated will be allowed to travel to Amber List countries later in the summer without having to quarantine on return. Theo leggett has this report. They are quiet right now, but the beaches and bars of beef that are getting ready for a wave of new arrivals from britain. Of a ibiza. We have said they are on the Green List, but we have said they are in the green watch list, so people can see exactly what we are seeing in terms of concern. To start with, this is the longest the Green List has been since the Traffic Light System was introduced, and Travel Operators have seen some cases of more people booking, and more interest in some of these destinations. That is on the positive side. But as we heard, plenty of lukewarm reaction as well. The vast amount of europe is still not on the list. The same goes for the rest of the world, including america, which is a particular Sore Point for the Travel Industry at the moment. The majority of the countries have also been added to the green watchlist, not necessarily just the green, it means they are green, you can still travel there, but of course they are at more risk of being able to tip into amber. How much more risk is really difficult for people to assess at the moment, because this is the first time we have had any countries on the green watchlist. 0f have had any countries on the green watchlist. Of course we previously saw portugal go straight from green into amber, which is perfectly possible at the moment as well. The other uncertainty is that this is notjust other uncertainty is that this is not just about what The Uk decides to do, The Uk Green List, it is also about what other countries decide to do and whether they will let us in. The Uk Government has control over what happens when people arrive here, they dont have control over whether we are letting to other countries as well. British tourists are the single biggest market, the biggest foreign market for the Spanish Tourism industry. Spain is absolutely desperate to get british tourists visiting again. So, this is seen as potentially a big boost for the Spanish Economy overall. I think speaking to businesses here, they are optimistic about this. But obviously this doesnt affect madrid itself, its affects the Balearic Islands. 0n the Spanish Government has been lobbying the Uk Government over the last few weeks, asking it to include those areas of spain on the Green List, which have particularly low infection rates, and which need tourists. Doctors are warning that hospital A E departments are being flooded with young children, many of them with mild fevers. The Royal College of paediatrics and Child Health says many of the children could be treated at home and that youngsters are catching viruses now theres more social mixing. Our Health Correspodent Philippa roxby reports. Record numbers of young children are being seen at Accident And Emergency departments across The Uk. Doctors say most have a mild fever, which can be treated at home. They say theyre overwhelmed. I was on a couple of mondays ago, we saw nearly 300 patients in a day. We are seeing lots of young children, less than one year old, with fevers, a bit of vomiting, may be a bit of diarrhoea, hugh generally do lok quite well but there is parental anxiety about their symptoms. And we simply dont have enough staff to keep up with that demand. A e doctors across The Uk have told the Royal College of paediatricians and Child Health theyve seen large increases in children attending, particularly those under five. In some places, demand is double normal levels. 0ne Doctor in belfast said she was extremely worried about what would happen if numbers continued to rise. In liverpool, there are reports of pressure on inpatient beds. And a doctor in edinburgh spoke of lots of children with viral illnesses that dont need hospital treatment. Children going to A E are not in well with covid, but with other infections, normally seen in winter. Children have been in lockdown since the early part of last year. And particularly younger children, their immune systems just havent been challenged in any kind of way by the normal viruses we all have around us all the time. And now that lockdown has been used, they are now being exposed to what ijust the usual viruses. And of course now they are becoming unwell. 1a month old theo was seriously unwell. Two weeks ago, he ended up in A E. I was really frightened. Very scared. Especially because he had all the spots all over his body. You always think the worst. And with a high temperature, as high as it was, you know, we were thinking that it was something seriously wrong. A e is the correct place to take a child in an emergency. But there are times when parents should trust their instincts. Fever phobia is so common. And it is everywhere in the community, where people get worried about the fever, rather than the child. And what i try to tell people is, if yourejust worried about the symptom, if you think your child is fine, but it is just a fever you are worried about, or just the diarrhoea, orjust the vomiting, actually, your child is likely to be ok, because you know your child best. And if they are well, they probably will be well. Susie did the right thing. She gave Theo Liquid Paracetamol to try to bring his temperature down. Then called 111 for advice, when he didnt improve. Doctors say A E services should be freed up to help seriously ill children like him. Philippa roxby, Bbc News. The time is 1 19. Our top story this lunchtime.
