A friend of the Uk Health secretary, Matt Hancock, says he wont comment on personal issues following publication of pictures of him in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year during the pandemic. Doctors say they are seeing Record Numbers of young children in Accident And Emergency departments across the uk with most suffering a mild fever which could be treated at home and learning more about the ancestors a new discovery that casts light on life before the neanderthals. And coming up this hour, well be in coventry as it celebrates the beginning of its year as the Uk City of culture 2021 Hello And Welcome if you re watching in the uk or Around The World. Leading figures in the british Travel Industry have expressed Dismay And Frustration at the Uk Governments easing of restrictions on foreign holidays, saying it does not go far enough. Sixteen destinations have been added to the uks green list. In europe, those include the spanish Balearic Islands of ibiza, Menorca And Majorca as well as Malta And Madeira. Further afield, green list countries include antigua, barbados, dominica and bermuda. It means from 4 oclock on wednesday morning, travellers from those green list countries will not have to quarantine upon arrival in the uk. But with the exception of malta, all destinations have also been added to the uks green Watch List in other words theyre at risk of moving back to amber at short notice. In russia, Alarm Bells are being sanded at the rising Coronavirus Infections. Premier of New South Wales in australia since the outbreak there is under control. Our Transport Correpondent Caroline davies reports no roar of the engines, silent and static. Yesterday, Gatwick Airport had 69 passenger flights. This time of year pre pandemic, they would have had between 800 and 900. As the School Holidays inch closer, the green list is increasingly critical for the industry, but Yesterdays Announcement is good news for some. After over a month of hoping, malta is one of the countries that will go green from next wednesday. Bermuda and barbados will also go green. But all of the new additions, apart from malta, are on the green Watch List, meaning that the government is warning that they are at risk of going to amber. The Red List is also getting longer with six additions, including tunisia and uganda. The green list does not go far enough for the industry. Were delighted the balearics and Malta And Madeira have been put onto the green list. But it is disappointing that, you know, the government still dont seem to be following the data and the science because many more destinations should have been put onto the green list. And we would encourage, you know, a safe and sustainable opening of travel to really start to ramp up now. The uk Travel Industry is desperate to see more people setting off on trips. But its notjust about the uks green list. Its also about which countries will let Uk Visitors in. Germanys chancellor Angela Merkel said yesterday that she wants to see the eu having a more unified approach on travel rules. To stop the spread of a Delta Variant, shes urged other countries to impose quarantine, as germany has done, on uk arrivals. But what about fully vaccinated travellers . The Uk Government did say that it was looking at removing quarantine for them, but not until later in the summer. We see that there is a case for double vaccination, fully vaccinated, meaning that you perhaps dont have to quarantine. So we can take those countries in the Amber List and allow people to come back without having to do the quarantine that youd have to do for amber, but not yet, partly because, of course, not everybody has been offered a vaccine yet. And secondly, because the scientists are still working on the implications. So there are a number of different questions which still need to be answered. It wont come soon enough for sarah and peter, who live in america. Both are fully vaccinated and due to travel in a few weeks. Sarah hasnt seen her parents in two years. Were not talking about holidays, its not a holiday we want to do. I want to see my family, my parents, and its the same for so many people Around The World. I really dont see any reason why i it cant happen now with a negative test to fly and fully vaccinated. Why not . The new list opens up some much longed for destinations, but International Travel is yet to take off, and the warnings are that this summer will be far from smooth. Caroline davies, Bbc News. Earlier, we heard from our business correspondent, katie prescott, who outlined the reaction from customers and Travel Bosses. I think there are several issues at stake. When you look at the countries that are on this green list, they are also on a watchlist which means they could switch from green to amber at any stage and its that uncertainty, both for customers who are thinking of booking holidays, or indeed going to see friends and family but also for the Travel Bosses because the second point is, it takes a lot of time to ramp up their capacity so that they are going to offer more holidays to these places, they need time to book hotels, flights, and i spoke to the boss of thomas cook this morning and he said its really difficult, the changes that, quite short notice make it very difficult for the industry. The other difficult point is they were hoping for some solid announcement about what might happen to people who have been double vaccinated, whether they would be able to go to amber countries without having to quarantine on return. The government said it is planning to do that but exactly when and how thats going to work is still to be decided and so its the thread of uncertainty, that i think is still making Travel Companies find it very difficult at the moment, in the Run Up to the key summer period. Another layer of uncertainty, although we have more countries on the green list, the german chancellor Angela Merkel saying we dont want british holiday makers because of the Delta Variant and other eu countries may turn around and say the same, there may even be some sort of eu directive. Thats exactly the point, we can make as many decisions as we want about Uk Travellers here but if other Countries Wont have us and you have to conform to certain regulations when you go there, it doesnt make much difference what we decide here. Most countries at the moment have jurisdiction in the eu over their own borders and for the southern countries, Uk Visitors play a hugely important part to their economy so perhaps they are unlikely to change but as you say, if there is an eu wide directive they will have little choice over that. Officials in russia are sounding the alarm about a . New wave of Coronavirus Infections causing a Record Number of deaths in recent days. Some regions are introducing restrictions including moscow, where many workers are being obliged to get vaccinated. . Meanwhile, . St petersburg is hosting Football Fans for the Euro 2020 and is reluctant to bring in any tough measures, as the bbc s Sarah Rainsford reports. It is packed out. And its the same all around the streets. And yet, this is a city in the midst of a covid crisis. Theres been no lockdown here in over a year. Covid was supposedly under control. But as St Petersburg is hit by a heatwave, theres a New Wave of the virus as well. So we found this outside just won city hospital. Ambulances waiting at least three hours under a sweltering sun. The more infectious dealt variant as it is known is spreading fast and in russia, just 11 of people have been fully Ii of people have been fully vaccinated. This lady just this ladyjust said to me if she hadnt been vaccinated she think she would have died, she says shes got double pneumonia now and thats after having been vaccinated back in january. She said its awful. Translation there no beds is any now, every word is full. More people getting sick. We need a strict lockdown. Maybe they will bring it in when the football is over. Now, i dont see them doing anything what they are doing is pushing people to get vaccinated. There have been Pop Up Clinics Part here but no queues more than One Million people in sydneys central and Eastern Suburbs, including bondi beach, will be locked down after a jump in Covid Cases. The australian city is battling to contain an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta Variant. Officials reported 17 new cases on friday, taking the cluster to 65 cases. The premier for the state of New South Wales says they are in control of the situation. The advice from health is we dont want to see the situation linger for weeks. We would like to see this situation and sooner rather than later. And we are on top of all the cases at the Moment Bar that one. But this is really to make sure that we can prevent further spread, prevent further dislocation and it does help us having School Holidays, it might not help parents who otherwise had plans. Our correspondent in sydney Shaimaa Khalil gave more details on the new lockdown. It that four main areas in sydney are going to be under that stay at Home Order which affects around i million people in sydney. It does not help parents or families who had plans because of School Holidays that start around australia but as you have heard there, the authorities want to contain that virus. There is now 65 cases in that Bondi Cluster so the lockdown will affect the bondi area, other Eastern Suburbs and the Inner City as well. This is really what worries the health authorities here, the fact this is the Delta Variant that has spread from the Eastern Suburbs into the Inner City and into the western fringes. I always say this when i talk about Covid I9 numbers in australia, 65 is a fairly low number compared to other countries Around The World but remember, this is a country that has managed to eliminate the virus at times, really kept a good control on the number of cases. Life has been pretty much back to normal here for many, many months so thats why when these outbreaks happen, they want to jump on them as quickly as possible and they stopped short of a full lockdown but authorities here said this localised stay at Home Order will enable them to control the virus. Its interesting though because we did see this agreement from some Health Experts who said this does not go far enough and sydney should have done what melbourne did a few weeks ago which is to introduce a full lockdown. They were asking for a Snap Cycle Breaker for about three days where everybody follows the same rules, everybody follows the same rules, everybody stays at home because there has been some confusion as to who stays home and he does not, for people who live in some areas under the lockdown and people who work in other areas as well. But i think what it really goes to, the heart of it, not enough australians have been vaccinated and until they do, this is always going to be a worry. In miami, Rescue Teams are working through the night to try to find survivors in the rubble of a I2 Storey Apartment block that collapsed without warning, bringing down dozens of homes in a matter of seconds. At least one person was killed but more than 2a hours after it happened, there are still around 100 people unaccounted for, as our correspondent Will Grant reports from the scene. As the hours pass, Emergency Rescue teams are working through the night at the collapsed apartment block, relentlessly trying to locate anyone still trapped. They have even burrowed into the rubble from beneath, via the basement. Meanwhile, the full extent of the severity of this incident is becoming clearer. When an entire sea facing wing of The Block collapsed, I2 Storeys Concertinaed in seconds, bringing down dozens of homes and, its feared, their residents with them. As the search goes on, this sobering assessment. I will tell you, after spending the bulk of the day here that this is a tragedy without precedent in the united states of america. For the desperate family members, though, the wait for information is nothing short of unbearable. I think theyre gone. I dont want to be pessimistic, but they. Weve been calling them nonstop. No reply, nobody knows anything, we dont have information right now. The site of this building so destroyed is a terrible reminder to the people of this community of what they have lost. And it is a sign to the authorities that they must begin to establish what happened here no matter where it leads. Cctv images of the moment itself shows just how fast the building collapsed, and how difficult it would have been to survive. Now the questions for the authorities are mounting. Right now, were focused on the search and rescue. When that moment comes, the dire moment comes when they transition command, we will be in charge of the investigation. This tragic incident has affected everyone in this small community which never saw the disaster coming. Before long, they will need a full explanation of exactly why it did. Will grant, Bbc News, miami. Lets speak to the cbs correspondent, laura podesta, In Surfside in florida. What is the very latest on that search for survivors . What is the very latest on that search for survivors . Good morning, unfortunately search for survivors . Good morning, unfortunately no search for survivors . Good morning, unfortunately no good search for survivors . Good morning, unfortunately no good news unfortunately no good news overnight. There has been no reports as far as survivors being pulled from the rubble overnight but so far we have seen a constant stream of Emergency Personnel and trucks carrying heavy machinery heading towards the site where this building partially collapsed. You can see there is an excavator working on the mound trying to push away the larger pieces of debris in order to potentially find someone who is trapped in a pocket underneath. There is also spot lights blazing, trying to eliminate that situation as though it was daylight so they can continue working through the night. There are, as you mentioned, 100 people, nearly100 night. There are, as you mentioned, 100 people, nearly 100 people unaccounted for at this point. Its a mix of seasonal and year long residence of this apartment building, 55 of the 136 units in this building came down as part of this building came down as part of this catastrophe. Back to you. Briefly, the search for survivors goes on, very will obviously search for answers also as to why this happened . Happened . Absolutely, we are learnin happened . Absolutely, we are learning a happened . Absolutely, we are learning a little happened . Absolutely, we are learning a little bit happened . Absolutely, we are learning a little bit more happened . Absolutely, we arej learning a little bit more about that, we are hearing there was an instruction on the roof of the building, we have heard there was a study by a professor with the Florida International University that found this building which was constructed a0 years ago on reclaimed wetlands had been slowly sinking over the past few decades. So that very well may have contributed to the structural integrity of the building filing. Laura podesta, from cbs news, thank you. The headlines on Bbc News. A friend of the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, says he wont comment on personal issues following publication of pictures of him in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year during the pandemic. The friend said Mr Hancock had no comment on Personal Matters, adding no rules have been broken. The Department Of Health says the aide was appointed in the usual way and according to correct procedure. Our political correspondent Ben Wright explained whether any rules had been broken. The government says not, a spokesperson for the department said all the right processes had been followed. What we are talking about is a woman called Gina Coladangelo who is an old friend of Matt Hancock, they have known Each Other for many years, right back to university. She is a director of a Lobbying Firm In London and last year, The Sunday times reported was appointed as an unpaid adviser to the Health Secretary in march. And then in september last year became a Nonexecutive Director of the board that oversees and scrutinises the work of the Department Of Health. Now, the Sun Newspaper has published pictures of the aid and Matt Hancock which seems to show them embracing in a Corridorfrom May which seems to show them embracing in a corridor from may this year. As he said, a friend had said that the Health Secretary does not comment on Personal Matters, no rules have been broken and the Transport Secretary Grant shapps when he was asked about this earlier also said it was an entirely personal matter. But i think this raises a lot of questions for Matt Hancock particularly around the appointment of the aid to the board of the Department Of Health. And that was where labour will focus i think theyre at scrutiny this morning. A spokesman for labour said ministers are entitled to a private life but the government needs to be open and transparent about whether there are any conflicts of interest or rules that have been broken. So Matt Hancock in i think a very uncomfortable place this morning. I uncomfortable place this morning. I suppose the other question that will occur to many viewers and readers of the newspaper is, you know, where social distancing rules and covid rules in general broken . Yes. Social distancing rules and covid rules in general broken . Rules in general broken . Yes, i mean, rules in general broken . Yes, i mean. This rules in general broken . Yes, i mean. This is rules in general broken . Yes, i mean, this is at rules in general broken . Yes, i mean, this is at a rules in general broken . Yes, i mean, this is at a time rules in general broken . Yes, i mean, this is at a time when i rules in general broken . Yes, i. Mean, this is at a time when the Delta Variant was spreading, social distancing rules are still in place. And this, i think, is in several respects a Compromising Position for Matt Hancock to find himself in and it seems extraordinary that these images could emerge at all. They seem to be from stills from a Cctv Camera which the paper says was in the Department Of Health. Yet somehow they found themselves under the front page of the Sun Newspaper. So yes, that is one from that Matt Hancock is i think, will be facing questions on and the other, i think the most important at the moment is the most important at the moment is the question of potential conflicts of interest on why someone who he appears to have been much closer personal relationship with than we had assumed or knew about, had a row first as an unpaid aide and was then put on the board as a Nonexecutive Director, of the department itself. In the uk, Accident And Emergency departments are seeing Record Levels of young children for this time of year with most suffering a mild fever which can be treated at home. The surge is being caused by viruses which would normally flourish in the winter but the spread was delayed this year because of the lockdown. Our Health Reporter Philippa roxby has more. Record numbers of young children are being seen at Accident And Emergency departments around the uk. Doctors say most have a mild fever which can be treated at home. They say they are overwhelmed. I was on a couple of mondays ago when we saw nearly 300 patients in a day. We are seeing lots of young children less than one year old, with fevers, a bit of vomiting, maybe a bit of diarrhoea, who generally look quite well but there is parental anxiety about their symptoms. We simply dont have enough staff to keep up with that demand. A e doctors across the uk have told the Royal College of paediatricians and Child Health Theyve seen large increases in children attending, particularly those under five. In some places, demand is double normal levels. One doctor in belfast said she was extremely worried if what would happen if numbers continued to rise. In liverpool, there are reports of pressure on inpatient beds. And a doctor in edinburgh spoke of lots of children with viral illnesses that dont need hospital treatment. Children going to A E are not unwell with covid. But with other infections normally seen in winter. Children have been in lockdown since the early part of last year. And particularly younger children, their immune systems just havent been challenged in any kind of way by the normal viruses that we have around us all the time. Now lockdown has been eased, they are now being exposed to what are just the usual viruses. And of course now they are becoming unwell. 1a month old theo was seriously unwell. Two weeks ago, he ended up in A E. I was really frightened, very scared. Especially because he had all the spots all over his body and you always think the worst. With a high temperature, as high as it was, you know, we were thinking it was something seriously wrong. A e is the correct place to take a child in an emergency, but there are times when parents should trust their instincts. Fever phobia is so common, and its everywhere in the community where people get worried about the fever rather than their child. And what i try and tell people is, if youre just worried about the symptoms, if you think the child is fine, its just the fever youre worried about, orjust the Diarrhoea Orjust the vomiting, actually, your child is likely to be ok. Because you know your child best and if theyre well, they probably will be well. Susie did the right thing. She gave Theo Liquid Paracetamol to try and bring his temperature down, then called 111 for advice when he didnt improve. Doctors say A E services should be freed Up To help seriously ill children like him. Philippa roxby, Bbc News. Weve noticed that there are particular areas of our communities that were really working with to try and deliver what were calling a hyper local response, literally going door to door to understand the reasons that people are being more hesitant about taking up the vaccine. The government hope byjuly19th, all adults will have had theirfirstjab, a figure currently at 83 . Second jabs are also available at some centres this weekend. But if youre over a0, it must have been at least eight weeks since your first. Or if youre under a0, there must be a 12 week gap. We know vaccines are very safe and highly effective, and also effective against the new Delta Variant that were seeing in the country. The more people who get vaccinated, the safer we will all be and of course, the freer we will all be. And its this Delta Variant thats believed to be behind the recent climb in Covid Cases, now at almost 17,000 a day. A number the government is desperate to drive down before they open up. Matt graveling, Bbc News. Gibraltar has voted in a referendum to ease the british territorys strict abortion laws. 62 of voters were in favour of amending the law that prohibits abortion in all cases, except when a Mothers Life is in danger. Aru na iyengar reports. Gibraltar voted yes cheering. The result was a resounding yes, allowing easier access to abortion. 62 voted in favour, but 36 voted against. Yes, and voting choice is voting for women, and trusting women, and not denigrating us and feeling that, you know, we are not able to make our own choices and not to be trusted in these situations. The vote has exposed sharply opposing views. This law is extreme, it removes all protection for unborn children, all the way Up To the nine months. In paper it looks restrictive, but in practise it will not be. I believe that this is a very big mistake, and just because its been done in the rest of world doesnt mean we have to follow suit. At present abortion is banned in gibraltar. Women who want the procedure have to travel to spain or the uk. The Amended Law will mean a woman will be able to undergo an abortion Up To 12 weeks into her pregnancy if her mental or physical health is deemed at risk, or beyond that, if damage to health would be serious or permanent. The move for change came after britains Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that northern Irelands Abortion laws, which are similar to gibraltar s, were incompatible with the European Convention on human rights. Its clear this normally peaceful close knit British Enclave has been rocked by this emotive issue. Aruna iyengar, Bbc News. China has approved the promotion of a Security Specialist to the number two position in Hong Kongs government, a move critics fear could result in tighter controls over society. John lee will now serve as deputy to the territorys leader, carrie lam. After his appointment, Mr Lee praised Chinas Introduction of a national Security Law in Hong Kong, saying it had turned chaos into governance. Heres the bbc s asia pacific regional editor, Michael Bristow with more onjohn lee. He isa he is a policeman, he spent most of his car leer, a0 odd years in the police force, before being promoted to security secretary, nearly a decade ago, so, his expertise is very much in that particular area, and over recent years, he has been accused of employing beijings tactics to try and crackdown on dissent, on freedom within Hong Kong, so he was in 2019, a perpetrator behind the law to perhaps extradite people that suggested extraditing Hong Kong as to china, that eventually collapsed, that proposal because of the protests in Hong Kong but that was, it was him who was behind that and more recently, the closure of Apple Daily, he has Security Minister was behind that closure, he was pushing that closure, and indeed, after the arrests made at Apple Daily he warned journalists to cut ties with Apple Daily. That the expertise he has had. This is why people feel there has been a further drift to Hong Kong to authoritarianism. In canada, an indigenous group says it has found hundreds of Unmarked Graves at the site of a former Residential School. In and the channel islands, there is a chance of rain at time, some of which could be heavy and thundery. There will be a few showers dotted round. Overall, the drier brighter day of the weekend and the warmer as well. Its not known how many of them contain the remains of children. The discovery comes just weeks after the remains of 215 children were found at the site of another former Residential School in british columbia. Indigenous leaders say its likely many more Unmarked Graves will be discovered. Charlotte lam reports. Almost 800 Unmarked Graves undiscovered for decades, until ground penetrating radars unearthed the secrets of the burial ground. In 1960, there may have been marks on these graves. The Catholic Church representatives removed these headstones and today, they are Unmarked Graves. The discovery was made near the marieval indian Residential School. It was built in 1889 by the Catholic Church and is one of more than 130 compulsory Boarding Schools in canada where children were taken after being separated from their parents as part of a policy of forced integration. Canadas past policies were thrown into the spotlight in may after The Discovery of 215 childrens remains at the site of a former Residential School in kamloops. It is estimated that 6,000 children died while attending these schools, largely because of the squalid Health Conditions inside. There are also reports of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of school authorities. In a statement, prime Minister Justin trudeau said the schools were funded by the canadian government and in 2008, it apologised for The System. But the roman Catholic Church was responsible for the operations Up To 70 of these schools and indigenous groups want a formal apology from the pope. This was a crime against humanity, an assault on our first nation people. We are proud people. We are very proud people. The only crime we ever committed as children was being born indigenous. Pope francis said earlier this month that he was pained by The Discovery At Kamloops but stopped short of a formal apology. Courtney bembridge, Bbc News. The headlines. Popular Holiday Destinations have been added to the Uk Governments Green List For Travel but there are warnings that could change at short notice. Officials in russia are sounding the alarm of a New Wave of Coronavirus Infections, causing a Record Number of deaths. Us president Joe Biden has declared a State Of Emergency in miami, after a State Of Emergency in miami, after a block of flats collapsed there on Wednesday Night, with one person confirmed dead and 99 still unaccounted for. A us judge will sentence former Police Office Derek chauvin for the murder of George Floyd in minneapolis today. Floyd was killed in may last year when chauvin . Knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. The horrific incident, caught on camera, spurred a reckoning with Americas History of racial injustice and sparked a global movement. Prosecutors have asked the court for a sentence of 30 years in prison. Nada tawfik has more. I find the defendant guilty. This is the moment Derek Chauvin became the first white Police Officer in the state of minnesota to be convicted of killing A Black Man. It was a positive step, many felt, towards justice. His upcoming sentencing has the potential to set a precedent for real accountability. The judge might think this is just such a serious case of such the judge has said he will consider how much chauvin abused his position of Trust And Authority and how he treated George Floyd, with particular cruelty. George floyd i cannot. Breathe, i cannot breathe. This became a place for the community together and try to heal. It clear speaking with residents though that there is still a deep distrust of the police and its a problem that wont be solved by one court holding one man accountable. Nobody that got killed by the police is coming back so its like, we all know how they feel. If that had been a white guy, he wouldnt have did that. He did it because it was a black and he thought he could get away with it. The former officer has never expressed remorse and could choose to speak for the first time at his sentencing. His lawyers are pushing for probation instead ofjail time. Once more, the citizens of minneapolis will be waiting anxiously for a decision out of this courthouse. It will be a defining moment for america. Nada tawfik, Bbc News, minneapolis. France is preparing to vote in the second round of regional elections this weekend. Incumbents from its traditional parties were the main winners from the first round of voting, with President Macron s party trailing far behind. The far right national Rally Party of Marine Le Pen is still in with a chance of winning its first region in the run off this sunday. But the first task for it . And other parties . Is to persuade supporters to vote, as our Paris Correspodent Lucy Williamson reports. It was meant to give a sign about frances political future. Instead, it looked more like a warning of its demise. The first round of regional elections here sawjust one in three people voting and among younger voters, more than 80 stayed home. President macron called it a democratic alert. Covid restrictions blocked a lot of campaigning but the problem is deeper than that. Translation i absolutely didnt vote. Politics is a huge lie, so im not really interested. Translation people are turning to other means of action, like activism, which can have a more concrete and direct impact on peoples lives. Even older voters who made it to the Polling Station found it hard to choose who should get their vote. Was it easy for you to know who to vote for . No. I always take some time to read because i dont always have a predefined idea on which party and things like that. This has changed in the last year. It was clearer before. The first round of this elections left france looking much like it did five years ago, before President Macron was supposed to have redrawn the politcal map. His main far right rival, Marine Le Pen, did much worse than expected but mr macrons own party has struggled to make much of an impression at all. It was not only a failure, it was a big disaster. Emmanuel macron asked more than ten, 12 ministers, members of the cabinet, to run for the regional election and they got a very, very severe defeat. Le pens national rally is still in with a chance no to win a region here, in province. A region here, in provence. That would be a major Step Up for the party. It has never controlled anything bigger than a Town Hall in france. But she is facing stiff opposition this sunday from the centre right republicans, so far, the biggest winners in this regional election, seen by many as the aperitif to frances president ial race. They were found at an Archaeological Site near tel aviv. Its thought they could explain genetic links between modern humans and neanderthals. The bbc s Tim Allman has the story. Isnt it amazing how something so small can be so significant . A Skull Fragment is analysed by scientists in tel aviv, but this is no ordinary skull argument. Along with part of the jawbone, it was unearthed at nesher ramla, an Archaeological Site once used by a cement plant, and they may well answer the questions about the development of human life on earth. Nesher Ramla Findings are the missing piece in the puzzle that can help us explain open questions in Human Evolutionary History and can give us an indication of the origin, the Source Population of neanderthals that lived later in europe. It is believed neanderthals, the cousins of modern humans, died out around a0,000 years ago. But these fragments are from a species much older than that and suggest the neanderthal story may be much more different to what we previously imagined. Now we can say that its probably that they originate in the levant, in our region, rather than in europe, as many researchers thought until now. Nesher ramla may have lived alongside and even mated with Homo Sapiens for more than 100,000 years. These arent just fragments of bone, they are pieces of an evolutionary jigsaw. Tim allman, Bbc News. When Margaret Sherlock opened her Hair Salon in lancashire in 1956, popular styles included the bouffant, the Bubble Cut and the classic wave. Fashions have changed since then but the salon is still going strong and so is margaret, who is now the uks oldest hairdresser at the age of 91. Quite a lot of nice customers come in and if i wasnt here theyd be sad, i know. We are hearing that german chancellor Angela Merkel will visit british prime Minister Borisjohnson next friday, that is according to a german government spokesperson. You are watching Bbc News. Now its time for a look at the weather with matt taylor. For some of you it feels like it is an about turn in the season. Yesterday afternoon Blue Skies in aberdeen, temperatures in the Mid 20s, Up To 26 in kelso, 1a Degrees Cooler this afternoon for some of you compared with 2a hours ago. And that is because the area of low pressure, as it pushes east wards it has opened the door to chilly winds. With it as well, Heavy Rain across parts of Northern England, round the Scottish Borders to the Isle Of Man and in wales, brightens up across the midlands, East Anglia and the South East after Rain Round lunchtime. Northern ireland sheltered from the strong wind which will be noticeable. Limited temperatures in Aberdeen And Newcastle to 12 celsius compared to the Mid 20s yesterday. Maybe the high teens in Northern Ireland, warmest of all with sunny spells in East Anglia and the South East. 20 or 21 the high. A few heavy showers later, thundery downpours in the midlands, damp in wales and into the night. The remnants of that Weather Front in the South Of Scotland and the far north of england. It means for a fairly cloudy night for many and temperatures holding in double figures for the vast majority. As we go to the weekend we have signs of High Pressure trying to build across the atlantic, low pressure to the south. Trapped in the middle the decaying Weather Front across far South Of Scotland, far north of england, outbreaks of Rain And Drizzle becoming lighter and patchy. Sunshine to the north. Sunny spells developing to the south but we have what was the left over of the low pressure system. As temperatures rise we could spark off a few isolated but heavy thundery showers, still chilly in the north but not as cold as today. A Cool Night will follow through Saturday Night into sunday. High pressure trying to establish across the north, but low pressure will throw a Weather Front back our way into the south, maybe South Wales and the channel islands, there is a chance of rain at time, some of which could be heavy and thundery. There will be a few showers dotted round. Overall, the drier brighter day of the weekend and the warmer as well. With temperatures where they should be at round 18 22 celsius. Hello, good morning. This is Bbc News this. I am annita mcveigh. The headlines at 11 popular Holiday Destinations like ibiza, majorca and barbados are added to the Uk Governments Green List For Travel, but there are warnings that could change at short notice. When you book, things may have to change, they may have to change at short notice. We have said they are on the green list, said theyre on the green watchlist so that people can see exactly what we are seeing in terms of concern. A friend of the Uk Health secretary, Matt Hancock, says he wont comment on personal issues following publication of pictures of him in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year during the pandemic. Nearly half of the people who have died from the new variant of the Delta Coronavirus have died after two jabs. Doctors say they are seeing Record Numbers of young children in Accident And Emergency departments across the uk, with most suffering a mild fever which could be treated at home. There are 99 people still unaccounted for after a flat collapse in miami. Learning more about our ancestors. Also coming up this hour, as theatres and live events take legal actions against the government, ill be talking to the government, ill be talking to the Chief Executive of the royal Albert Hall about opening up after covid and how the venue has survived in lockdown. Hello, good morning. Welcome to Bbc News. Leading figures in the Travel Industry have expressed Dismay And Frustration at the governments easing of restrictions on foreign holidays, saying it does not go far enough. 16 destinations have been added to the uks green list. In europe, those include the spanish Balearic Islands of ibiza, Menorca And Majorca as well as Malta And Madeira. Further afield, green list countries include antigua, barbados, dominica and bermuda. It means from four oclock on wednesday morning, travellers from those green list countries will not have to quarantine upon arrival in the uk. But. With the exception of malta, all destinations have also been added to the green Watch List in other words theyre at risk of moving back to amber at short notice. The Travel Industry Body Abta is warning the announcement on its own will not deliver the meaningful restart of International Travel that the industry desperately needs. Our Transport Correpondent Caroline davies reports. No roar of the engines, silent and static. Yesterday Gatwick Airport had 69 passenger flights. Responding to german chancellor Angela Merkel s concerns about british travellers spreading the Delta Variant, the Transport Secretary Grant shapps has acknowledged some European Countries may take longer than others to open their doors to arrivals from the uk. I think its understandable if you are in germany, and i heard what the chancellor said yesterday, and you have yet to reach the levels of vaccinations that weve seen here or in malta that you are going to be more concerned, and that may be just a question of waiting for their Vaccination Programme. I think different countries in europe will take different views and, yes, im talking to my counterparts in different locations, malta we know about, were obviously are keen to accept british tourists. Spain, because weve got the balearics. But we will see what will happens. I suspect that different European Countries will come to different conclusions depending on their own domestic roll out of their Vaccination Programme and its probably, in most cases, a question of being patient and waiting to see what happens with their domestic programmes. Labours shadow transport secretary, Jim Mcmahon says the Governments Traffic Light system lacks clarity. We would be calling for the government to have a clear, transparent and data led plan but its essential for consumer confidence, supporting the Tourism And Aviation industry and it is essential for the government to make sure we carry people on what has been a very long journey and keep public trust. The Government Hasnt done that, Flip Flopping from one plan to another, not giving people anywhere near enough notice, not publishing data and we dont know which directions countries are going to, what analysis has been made of each country and thats caused a lot of confusion. You saw her reportjust a minute ago. You saw her report just a minute ago. Our Transport Correspondent Caroline Davies is here. Good morning to you. Lets talk about being on the green list and the green watchlist. In practical terms, what is the difference . This is the first time terms, what is the difference . Try 3 is the first time we have seen any countries go on the green watchlist. In theory, this is the list to tell the public from the government that these countries are at more risk of tipping over into amber. However, we have seen previously that countries on the green list, portugal went straight from green into amber. That is still possible as well. The fact that these countries are on the green watchlist, there could be some concern from the industry that people might not want to book, but they are green at the moment. People are going to have to make the Risk Assessment for themselves. The industry is assessment for themselves. The industry is concerned that it might put people off of booking if they dont want that element of risk. Yesterday there is a decision coming later in the summer about people who have had two fascination who can return from amber back to the uk without quarantining. Define what later means . Im sure a lot of people in the industry are saying look, that does not give us enough clarity. look, that does not give us enough clari. , look, that does not give us enough clari. , look, that does not give us enough clari. ,. ,. , clarity. And they said later in the summer could be as late as late september or even october. When it is later in the summer . At the moment, the government do not know. They say they have to assess the situation and they have questions to answer. We are expecting to hear more about that in july. We are expecting to hear more about that injuly. We do expect this to be quite a bit later in the summer that we will hear details about whether or not people who are fully vaccinated will not have to quarantine coming back from destinations on the embolus. Vaccination programme and its ability to protect us . I am very ositive ability to protect us . I am very positive about ability to protect us . I am very positive about the ability to protect us . I do want to try and ask you one more question if we can get the technical side of things to work. And that is the latest data from public Health England which is saying of the 117 people who have died in england from the Delta Variant of covid, 50 of them have been double vaccinated. What do you make of that data . What is your assessment . Oh, im really sorry, we are clearly having too many problems with this line to continue. We will try to get him back hopefully when we can make sure that all of the technical side of things is working smoothly. I do apologise for that. It is hard to listen when our conversation is being constantly interrupted but we will try to get him back. A friend of the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, says he wont comment on personal issues following publication of pictures of him in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year during the pandemic. The friend said Mr Hancock had no comment on Personal Matters, adding, no rules have been broken. The Department Of Health says the aide was appointed in the usual way and according to correct procedure. Lets get more from our political correspondent Ben Wright. Good morning to you. The aid her name is gina. What is her role at the Department Of Health and despite a Government Spokesman saying that the appointment had happened in the usual way, will Opposition Parties want to scrutinise that process . Yes, good morning anita. Ithink they certainly will. Labour is definitely wanted to focus on her role as sitting as a nonexecutive role. She works in the body that oversees the work of the department. She is one of the two directors. According to the newspapers this morning, she was appointed last september. Having initially been appointed an unpaid aid to Matt Hancock back in march or april. Last year. She is a long term long time friend of the Health Secretary, they went to university together they have known Each Other for years. Matt hancock has not responded directly himself to the reports. Orto responded directly himself to the reports. Or to the picture which seems to have been captured from a Cctv Camera. It was showing him in an embrace with gina. He has had plenty of time to talk about the story, but we only have a friend of his saying it is a personal matter and he would not comment and that no rules were broken. There are many questions for him. There is the key questions for him. There is the key question about what the circumstances were around Hurst Appointment and any more questions about the relationship that might have influenced that, something that the department has categorically denied. And perhaps a question around social distancing roles. This was apparently back at the star of may, the the start of may. Were they adhering to the rules the restrictions. Is not responded yet. Thank you very much. The headlines on Bbc News the time is 11 1aam. Popular destinations are added to the Uk Governments ringlets for travel, but there are warnings that that could change at short notice. As we have just been discussing the friend of Matt Hancock says he will not comment on pictures of him in a close aide. New data suggest that nearly half of the 117 people who have died from the Delta Variant of covid in england have had received Dose Wood two doses of the coronavirus vaccine. We are going to try to talk to the doctor again. We are going to try to talk to the doctoragain. He is we are going to try to talk to the doctor again. He is also a lib dem councillor. Hopefully a smooth conversation this time. I will pick up conversation this time. I will pick up on the headline from a second ago. I wasjust up on the headline from a second ago. Is that what you are saying . Oh, im really sorry, this is really frustrating for us as well as you. I think were going to have to give up on the interview for the moment which is a shame. I do apologise. Any adult in england will be able to get theirfirstjab against covid this weekend, with no need to book an appointment. Football stadiums, theatres and Supermarket Carparks are among the hundreds of venues being turned into temporary vaccine centres, as Matt Graveling reports. Whether you got it at a cathedral or a mosque. A stadium or racecourse. Aa million of us have now had at least one dose of the vaccine. But with 17 of the population still unprotected, the nhs is now putting even more effort into the final furlong. We want as many people as possible to get vaccinated ahead ofjuly the 19th. So this weekend, were opening hundreds of Pop Up walk in centres where you can just turn up, you dont need to book, and grabajab. More than One Million appointments were made in just two days when over 18s became eligible last week. Its hoped the surge will continue this weekend with venues like Edgbaston Cricket Ground and arsenals Emirates Stadium becoming huge Pop Up centres to help supply demand. Organisers of latitude have announced that the festival will go ahead. The four Day Event is due to be held in suffolk from the 22nd of july, three days after the government expects to lift all limits on social Contact. Musical headliners include the chemical brothers, Bastille And Bombay bicycle club. It will be part of a government research programme. Everyone attending will have to have a negative lateral Flow Test or proof of two covid vaccinations. Accident and Emergency Departments across the uk are seeing Record Levels of young children for this time of year, with most suffering a mild fever which can be treated at home. Accident and Emergency Departments across the uk are seeing record the surge is being caused by viruses which would normally flourish in the winter, but the spread was delayed this year because of the lockdown. A e doctors across the uk have told the Royal College of paediatricians and Child Health, theyve seen large increases in children attending, particularly those under five. I can now speak to Professor Martin marshall, who is chair of the Royal College of gps and a Practising Gp in east london. Professor marshall, very good for you tojoin us. It is an real problem it point of Contact. Yes, good morning. It is an real problem it is point of Contact. Yes, good morning. It is an real problem it is a it is an real problem it is a concern to see this level of respiratory infection in children at this time of year. It is a level that we would usually see in wintertime. It is a problem which is affecting the whole of the health system. It is very worrying to see children who are basically pretty well, being seen in Emergency Departments. It is happening in General Practices as well. Most of the people im seeing in the surgery are children. Most of whom are ok, but there is a high level of parental anxiety for the simple reason that parents simply havent these infections for the last 18 because of good infection control. You are talking potentially about babies born during lockdown or parents with very young children, toddlers through lockdown not having access to the baby and tiled their groups or perhaps the Community Midwife there to have the sorts of conversations that would reassure them and therefore if their child gets a sniffle or has a high temperature, they dont think, oh, lets go to A E as the first option. Why are so many parents doing that . Why are so many parents doing that . Why are so many parents doing that . Why are they bringing the children to A E rather than thinking lets go to A E rather than thinking lets go to the pharmacy or to my gp . I to A E rather than thinking lets go to the pharmacy or to my gp . I think in Art It to the pharmacy or to my gp . I think in pArt It is to the pharmacy or to my gp . In pArt It is because parents do get anxious about their Childrens Health particularly. A e are the place that they think is open all the time. General open all the time as well. But i think parents are aware that we are under pressure as well. The fact is general practitioners are very busy. And i think parents are making their own decision to go to Accident Mac because i think it is going to be more accessible. Really this is about pressure across the entire nhs. Is putting pressure on emergency rooms that we arent used to seeing. Just emergency rooms that we arent used to seeint, ,. ~ emergency rooms that we arent used toseeina. , ,. ,. To seeing. Just picking up on what. You are saying, how much of this is a structural issue in primary care . Obviously, you are saying that parents think that Accident Mac is open all the time when in fact gps are open all the time. May be a phone call, maybe a virtual appointment or a face to face one. But they are open. Is enough money going into primary care to allow you to cope with the demand for it . Thats the first part and secondly does there need to be some sort of public Information Campaign especially around young children and what to do if they are ill . Your auestion what to do if they are ill . Your question is what to do if they are ill . Your question is spot what to do if they are ill . Your question is spot on. What to do if they are ill . Your question is spot on. There i what to do if they are ill . Your question is spot on. There is i what to do if they are ill . Your| question is spot on. There is no doubt at all that what we are experiencing in general practice is the demand outstripping supply. There is simplyjust not enough working to meet the demands of the patient s. And parents are seeing and feeling that. As far as your second point, absolutely. This is about supporting and helping patients, parents providing advice for them, so they can Self Care or if it is a problem that they want more advice from coming, calling 111 rather than going into Accident Mac. We have some guidance that is coming out today which makes it very clear what to do if you think the problems are relatively simple. Paris in those kinds of things. What do you do if you are worried it might be something more syrians. I hope that that guidance will be really helpful for parents. Right now, were focused on the search and rescue. When that moment comes, the dire moment comes when they transition command, we will be in charge of the investigation. As you well know, lots of these regulations and rules and guidance is quite a grey area, quite complicated, quite murky. There are workplace exemptions and things like that for close Contact with people not in your household, but whether or not it was the law or it was guidance, a lot of people have spent the last year keeping their distance from their loved ones, in some cases incredibly traumatic circumstances with elderly relatives, not being able to see them, not being able to hunt down relatives. Dominic cummings launched an astonishing six hour thai rate essentially against Mr Hancock saying you should have been sacked on multiple occasions, he is dishonest, his handling of the Care Home Testing crisis at the beginning of the pandemic was a disaster, ppe contracts failed to materialise. This is not the first time that he has been accused of having a slightly unusual approach to public procurement and public money. You can forget the infamous bartender at a local pub he managed to get our covid Testing Contract despite having no previous experience in the field . It is coming on top of a long list of allegations about Mr Hancock was my his department and his ministerial career and i think it couldnt have come at a more unhelpful time for him as questions arise whether there will be a reshuffle and if its time for a new Health Secretary. On the borisjohnson point, he does tend to stick to ministries when they are underfire. If you think stick to ministries when they are under fire. If you think about Priti Patel and the bullying allegations. Robertjenrick, when he was Up To his neck in a murky Planning Row along tory donors and lavish poles and skyscrapers, he was also able to chuff out the crisis that would have perhaps toppled ministers in previous administrations, so as it stands it feels like there is an ominous silence from number ten, but for Matt Hancock at the Moment Silence is probably good news but i think we need to see the Health Secretary today and there is a long list of questions he needs to answer. ,. ,. , list of questions he needs to answer. ,. ,. ,. , answer. And im loving the dancing and im loving the dancing a usjudge will sentence former Police Office Derek chauvin for the murder of George Floyd in minneapolis today. Floyd was killed in may last year when chauvin . Knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. The horrific incident, caught on camera, spurred a reckoning with america s history of racial injustice and sparked a global movement. The judge might think this is just such a serious case of such notoriety that he is just going to give a greater time, i think he will go above 25 years, 25 30. The judge has said he will consider how much chauvin abused his position of Trust And Authority and how he treated George Floyd with particular cruelty. George floyd i cannot. Breathe, i cannot breathe. This became a place for the community together and try to heal. Its clear speaking with residents though that there is still a deep distrust of the police and its a problem that wont be solved by one court holding one man accountable. Scientists in israel say theyve discovered a previously unknown form of early human after studying fragments of a fossilised skull and jawbone. It is believed neanderthals, the cousins of modern humans, died out around 40,000 years ago. Now its time for a look at the weather with matt taylor. For some of you it feels like it is an about turn in the season. Yesterday afternoon Blue Skies in aberdeen, temperatures in the Mid 20s, Up To 26 in kelso, Iii Degrees Cooler this afternoon for some of you compared with 24 hours ago. And that is because the area of low pressure, as it pushes east wards it has opened the door to chilly winds. With it as well, Heavy Rain across parts of Northern England, round the Scottish Borders to the Isle Of Man and in wales, it brightens up across the midlands, East Anglia and the South East after Rain Round lunchtime. Northern ireland sheltered from the strong wind which will be noticeable. Limited temperatures in Aberdeen And Newcastle, to 12 celsius compared to the Mid 20s yesterday. As temperatures rise we could spark off a few isolated but heavy thundery showers. This is Bbc News. The headlines. Popular Holiday Destinations like ibiza, majorca and barbados are added to the Uk Governments Green List For Travel but there are warnings that could change at short notice. When you book, things may have to change, they may have to change at short notice. We have said they are on the green list, said theyre on the green watchlist so that people can see exactly what we are seeing in terms of concern. A friend of the the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, says he wont comment on personal issues following publication of pictures of him in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year during the pandemic. Doctors say they are seeing Record Numbers of young children in Accident And Emergency departments across the uk with most suffering a mild fever which could be treated at home. Us president Joe Biden has declared a State Of Emergency in miami after a block of flats collapsed there on Wednesday Night, with one person confirmed dead and 99 still unaccounted for. Israel has reintroduced a requirement to wear masks indoors amid a rise in coronavirus cases, just days after it lifted the measure. Learning more about our ancestors a new discovery that casts light on life before the neanderthals. Hello and welcome to Bbc News. Leading figures in the Travel Industry have expressed Dismay And Frustration at the governments easing of restrictions on foreign holidays, saying it does not go far enough. 16 destinations have been added to the governments green list. 0ur Transport Correpondent Caroline davies reports. No roar of the engines, silent and static. Yesterday Gatwick Airport had 69 passenger flights. Labours shadow transport secretary, Jim Mcmahon, says the Governments Traffic Light system lacks clarity. That was the shadow transport secretary. We hope in the next few minutes to get some reaction to the latest update to the Traffic Light System from the Chief Executive of thomas cook uk, alan french. Thank you. Well, unfortunately, this saga seems yet again to indicate that there is one rule for The Conservatives and another roll for everybody else. And ultimately the responsibility for the management of the House Secretary does lie with the House Secretary does lie with the prime minister. We have already seen those revelations of course coming out from the person who was a top adviser to the prime minister, Dominic Cummings which seem to suggest the prime minister had no faith in his House Secretary. Now today, of course, discovering that it appears the Hell Secretary may well have been breaking the rules that others had to follow. And of course, we have been through a period when grandparents have not been able to hug their grandchildren. Ivejust come been able to hug their grandchildren. Ive just come off a call with some of my local nurses whove been following the rules to the letter. Who are really struggling currently to deal with the impact of covid tell. I honestly think that now is the time when the prime Minister Needs to get a grip on the situation. He simply has not done so until now. He needs to act. Is it tenable for Matt Hancock not to say anything about this . He has not commented so far, has he . I not commented so far, has he . I dont think it is tenable, but i also dont think it is tenable for the prime minister to remain so silent about all of this. As i mentioned before, he appeared to have no confidence in his House Secretary for a very long time and yet did nothing. He continues to do nothing. And of course, all of this is taking place when our nhs is still under tremendous pressure. 0ur nurses, doctors, Health Care Assistance still working incredibly hard to mac now with the biggest Waiting List on record and yet, we dont have a grip from government on this. And i think those people who are struggling with in our nhs, those patients who are not able to get the care they need, will wonder why we still got the Health Secretary clinging on in this way and a prime minister appearing to back him. ,. , back him. Several ministers have been through difficult patches, shall we say, and there has been no suggestion that he would sack them or that they would go under his leadership. Unfortunately, the prime minister appears privately to have no confidence in his Health Secretary and yet, he has done nothing, it appears, to remedy the situation. Quite frankly, i dont care about the relationship between the two of them. I dont care about peoples private lives. I care about the impact of this on the running of our nhs, on Peoples Confidence in covid rules and our country getting through this crisis. Through this crisis. Well, this is the big question. If the rules between households . Well, this is the big question. If the rules have | the big question. If the rules have been broken, and if they have yet again, this will be a case of The Conservatives believing there is one rule for them and another rule for everyone else to follow. As i said, this has been at a time when, you know, the great british public have been following those rules as i said, ivejust been been following those rules as i said, ive just been speaking to many nurses who have been going well beyond the call of duty to make sure the at those rules are followed so that people are kept safe, so that especially the very vulnerable are kept safe from this disease. Really everybody should be taking responsibility for this, not least those right at the apex of government like the Health Secretary and indeed, the prime minister who seems to still be backing him. We need to understand what parliamentarian passes may have been provided, whether that was appropriate. Ultimately, the Health Secretary and indeed his prime Minister Need to be transparent here. The publication of teachers in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year the pandemic. A friend quoted in the article said that Mr Hancock had no comment on Personal Matters adding that no rules have been broken. Well, we now have had a statement from the Health Secretary Matt Hancock where he admits he breached social distancing guidelines and has apologised for letting people down. Let me read this statement. He says, i accept that i breached the social Distancing Guidance in these circumstances. I have let people down. And i am very sorry, he says. The statement continues, i remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter. Ive just spoken to the chair of the Labour Party who said that matt Hong Kong absolutely has to speak about this, that she expects the prime minister to speak about this as well. A comment from the Liberal Democrat saying that Matt Hancock should be sacked not because of his personal life but because of his handling of the pandemic. Well, our political correspondent Ben Wright joins me now. We know that a visit that Matt Hancock was do to make, to a Vaccination Centre earlier today was cancelled. And now this short statement from him. He admits he breached social Distancing Guidance. How problematic is this for the Health Secretary . It is problematic and he will hope that this finishes it, he clearly wants to tough it out. He thinks that by accepting that he breached the rules, apologising to everybody that he can move on. It is hard to say at the moment definitely if that will be the case or not. We are expecting within the next few minutes a briefing to begin with the prime ministers official spokesperson. We should get a response from number ten and bring us some clarity. I think Matt Hancock knew he was not in political difficulty because he was in a picture embracing someone who wasnt his woman. The days are long gone when that could end the career of a cabinet minister. The problem was the question around social distancing and whether he had breached the rules that were in place at the time this image was captured at the beginning of may. He has accepted that he did breached the rules, rules that he was an instrumental in writing and preaching to everybody else. The second front he was in difficulty on was the question of the appointment of this woman. She is the aide in question. A good long Term Friend of his, she was appointed to be a Nonexecutive Director on the board of health last year. The Labour Party are asking whether the circumstances of that were problematic, whether with there was a conflict of interest. The department had already said there was not a conflict of interest, that the rules were followed. He has. Is hoping that by addressing the issue around social distancing that he can put an end to this. So issue around social distancing that he can put an end to this. He can put an end to this. So the rules were he can put an end to this. So the rules were not he can put an end to this. So the rules were not followed. He can put an end to this. So the rules were not followed. I he can put an end to this. So the rules were not followed. I think. Rules were not followed. I think thatis rules were not followed. I think that is actually what it what it is when It Comes to social distancing. A statement came out earlier saying that no rules are broken, but Matt Hancock has just said that he breached social Distancing Guidance. As the Health Secretary, some are responsible for leading the Governments Approach to tackling the pandemic, does this make his position untenable . And what are we likely to hear from the prime minister because presumably Boris Johnson is going to have to say something about this . That johnson is going to have to say something about this . At some point he will certainly something about this . At some point he will certainly have something about this . At some point he will certainly have to something about this . At some point he will certainly have to say something about this . At some point he will certainly have to say it. I he will certainly have to say it. And i think Matt Hancock was already in difficulty around social distancing after speaking up against a key adviser to the government who breached social distancing rules and Matt Hancock was strong in his condemnation of him at the time. He now too has accepted that he has breached the governments own guidelines when It Comes to social distancing indoors with people who arent in your social bubble. I think it leaves him in a precarious position, but he is a. An ambitious man and he clearly wants to continue in the job and ambitious man and he clearly wants to continue in thejob and he ambitious man and he clearly wants to continue in the job and he says that he is committed to getting the country out of the pandemic and now wants privacy to focus on his family and wants us to move on. As i said, key question now, is what number ten saysin key question now, is what number ten says in response to all of these questions. If people feel like theyve been sticking to the guidelines and the Health Secretary has not and has admitted that he did not in this occasion, and number ten will presumably want to be aware of that and take that into account. I to be aware of that and take that into account. Into account. I think great political into account. I think great political sensitivity into account. I think the public are very aware of the potential for hypocrisy here. When ministers are preaching one thing and saying that people have to follow the guidance for public health, and yet are discovered having doing something else. That is undoubtedly problematic as far as a government is concerned. Ok. Undoubtedly problematic as far as a government is concerned. Ok, Thank Ou ve government is concerned. Ok, thank you very much the uk now has the highest number of daily Covid Cases in europe. New figures out today show that cases of the Delta Variant of coronavirus have risen by almost 50 in a week, despite more than 60 of the adult population being fully vaccinated. It comes as there are concerns that the Delta Variant is spreading rapidly across europe, raising the risk of a rebound in infections and a delay to the regions economic comeback. In the uk, the Delta Variant accounts for almost all new infections and new figures just released show cases of the variant have risen by 46 in a week. In france, delta is causing concern in the South West of the country. In some areas, the variant accounts for 70 of infections. Its being blamed too for israel bringing back the requirement to wear masks in public spaces after a surge in new cases. Its a setback after a highly successful vaccine rollout. In russias capital, moscow, the Citys Mayor says the Delta Variant is responsible for 90 of new infections. On thursday, russia recorded more than 20,000 new cases, its highest figure since january. Around the world, the advance of more infectious variants of Covid I9 are a cause of growing concern. Accident and Emergency Departments across the uk are seeing Record Levels of young children for this time of year with most suffering a mild fever which can be treated at home. The surge is being caused by viruses which would normally flourish in the winter, but the spread was delayed this year because of the lockdown. A e doctors across the uk have told the Royal College of paediatricians and Child Health, theyve seen large increases in children attending, particularly those under five. In some places, demand is double normal levels. Record numbers of young children are being seen at accident one doctor in belfast said she was extremely worried if what would happen if numbers continued to rise. Ia month old theo was seriously unwell. I can now speak to Dr Liz Whittaker whos infectious diseases lead at the Royal College of paediatrics and Child Health which published the report. Thank you very much forjoining us today. Forthe thank you very much forjoining us today. For the majority of children, it seems, and especially young children, which a report says is largely going to Accident And Emergency, it sounds like their immune systems playing catch up. Any parent who sent a child to a nursery for the first time to talk about their children picking up coughs and colds, which doesnt do them any harm in the long run. People are feeling isolated so originally to other areas. Most of these children are reassured and sent home from A E and very few are being admitted. We are not seeing greater numbers in intensive care or on the wards, they are just presenting with fever. Truth . Are ust presenting with fever. Why are just presenting with fever. People are very worried and i think it is not surprising. It has been a very scary year. Ourjob as health professionals, and the media, is to reassure parents that young people get coughs and colds and fevers, and if they Cant Control it with simple measures, then they can probably stay at home and speak to nhs Iii rather than going to A E. So stay at home and speak to nh5111 rather than going to me. So those oints are rather than going to me. So those points are the rather than going to me. So those points are the key rather than going to me. So those points are the key indicators rather than going to me. So those points are the key indicators to points are the key indicators to look out for if parents need to be more worried. Given that we have spent the last year and a half in and out of lockdown and lots of young parents have little experience of going to the sorts of groups where they would be able to talk theseissues where they would be able to talk these issues through, is there a need for some kind of public health campaign, Information Campaign to remind parents what they should be concerned about and what can be easily treated at home . They also do a great Job Health visitors. They also do a greatjob in speaking to new parents, and that has been under resourced. That is another group of people that could support parents that need to be reinstated, but i think that making sure the parents know, using the nhs website, to talk about fever, that is a good place to go. The headlines on Bbc News Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, has apologised for breaching social Distancing Guidance following publication of pictures of him in the Sun Newspaper with a close aide he hired last year during the pandemic, as labour calls on the prime minister to fire him. Popular Holiday Destinations like ibiza, majorca and barbados are added to the Uk Governments Green List For Travel, but there are warnings that could change at short notice. Doctors say they are seeing Record Numbers of young children in Accident And Emergency departments across the uk, with most suffering a mild fever which could be treated at home. In miami, Rescue Teams are working through the night to try to find survivors in the rubble of a I2 Storey Apartment block that collapsed without warning, bringing down dozens of homes in a matter of seconds. At least one person was killed, but more than 2a hours after it happened, there are still around A Hundred people unaccounted for. Laura podesta, from the us network cbs, is at the scene. A little earlier, she gave us the latest from there. Unfortunately, no good news overnight. There have been no reports as far as survivors being pulled from the rubble overnight, but so far we have seen a constant stream of Emergency Personnel and trucks carrying heavy machinery heading towards the site were this building partially collapsed. You can see that there is an excavator working on the mound there trying to push away the larger pieces of debris in order to potentially find someone who is trapped in a pocket underneath. There are also spotlights blazing trying to illuminate this situation as though it was daylight so they can continue working through the night. There are, as you mentioned, nearly 100 people unaccounted for at this point. It is a mix of seasonal and year long residents of this apartment building. 55 of the 136 units in this building came down as part of this catastrophe. We are hearing that there was construction on the roof of the building. We have also learned that there was a study conducted by a professor with the Florida International University that found that this building, which was constructed a0 years ago on reclaimed wetlands, had been slowly sinking over the past few decades, so that very well could have contributed to the structural integrity of the building failing. The father of the belarusian Opposition Blogger Roman protasevich, who was arrested last month when his plane was diverted to minsk, has told the bbc his son has been moved from prison to House Arrest. The blogger s girlfriend, sofia sapega, is also said to have been moved out of a Detention Facility and into a rented flat in the belarusian capital. Three weeks ago, Mr Protasevich was put on State Television where he was seen confessing to organizing anti government protests a confession that his family say was coerced. Olga ivshina from the bbc s russian service has more on what Mr Protasevichs father told the bbc. He told that they found out that he had been moved under House Arrest. They dont know much, you know . They also knew that his girlfriend, sofia sapega, was also moved to House Arrest and we also managed to speak to her parents and they were able to travel to belarus from russia and they saw their daughter at a restaurant. The time of that Visit Wasnt limited. It all started with a picture, a photo published Yesterday Online where some people saw in the park two people resembling Protasevich And Sapega talking to one of the journalists on camera. What happens next is unclear, but the parents of Roman Protasevich are sure that it is a positive sign in terms of the well being of roman, but they think some bargaining is going on. The parents say there are no communications, no one is talking to them. They were not able to speak to roman yet, so they are completely in the dark, but an Opposition Leader said according to her sources, some of the russian diplomats were calling some European Diplomats yesterday and saying that some political prisoners would be moved to under arrest. These are all small signs which give a hints that this might be a part of a bigger game by the russian authorities, but the exact terms of this game is of course unclear, and the fact is that this game involves human lives. Lets remind you of the Breaking News this hour the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, has apologised for breaching social distancing rules after The Sun published a photo of him in a close embrace with one of his aides. In a statement, Mr Hancock, said, i accept that i breached the social Distancing Guidance in these circumstances. I have let people down and am very sorry. I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter. The Labour Party is calling for him to resign. Ive been speaking to the partys chair, anneliese dodds. Unfortunately, this saga seems yet again to indicate that there is one rule for The Conservatives and another rule for everybody else. And ultimately the responsibility for the management of the Health Secretary does lie with the prime minister. We have already seen those revelations of course coming out from the person who was a top adviser to the prime minister, Dominic Cummings which seem to suggest the prime minister had no faith in his Health Secretary. Now today, of course, discovering that it appears the Health Secretary may well have been breaking the rules that others had to follow. And of course, we have been through a period when grandparents have not been able to hug their grandchildren. Ive just come off a call with some of my local nurses whove been following the rules to the letter. Who are really struggling currently to deal with the impact of covid still. I honestly think that now is the time when the prime Minister Needs to get a grip on the situation. He simply has not done so until now. He needs to act. Is it tenable for Matt Hancock not to say anything about this . He has not commented so far, has he . I dont think it is tenable, but i also dont think it is tenable for the prime minister to remain so silent about all of this. As i mentioned before, he appeared to have no confidence in his Helath Secretary for a very long time and yet did nothing. He continues to do nothing. And of course, all of this is taking place when our nhs is still under tremendous pressure. Our nurses, doctors, Health Care Assistance still working incredibly hard. Now with the biggest Waiting List on record and yet we dont have a grip from government on this. And i think those people who are struggling with in our nhs, those patients who are not able to get the care they need, will wonder why we still got the Health Secretary clinging on in this way and a prime minister appearing to back him. In a moment, the Bbc News at one with jane hill, but now its time for a look at the weather with sarah keith lucas. Good afternoon. It is a day of mixed fortunes out there weather wise. Some of us are keeping a lot of cloud which is bringing some outbreaks of rain. In other areas the cloud will break up and things will brighten up. An quarrel at the moment there is some blue sky. Through the course of the weekend we are expecting that mix of weather types to continue. A few showers here and there on saturday, perhaps more persistent rain on the site at the time we get to sunday. Back to the time we get to sunday. Back to the here and now, we have low pressure in charge at the moment. These fronts are slow moving. There will be outbreaks of rain in Northern England and into wales. For the moment. For the North And West that will be high teens. Through this evening. Most of the rain does tend to ease overnight, but it stays quite cloudy with Mist And Fog around the coasts and hills, certainly quite mild with temperatures between ten and i2 temperatures between ten and 12 degrees to start up your weekend. Into saturday, that area of low pressure that is with us today are still lingering, but it will tend to feel a little bit. These Weather Fronts are not producing too much in the way of rainfall. Quite cloudy conditions for many of us, patchy rain for southern Scotland And Northern england. Some showers popping up in the midlands. There will be some sunshine in the southern half of the uk. Claudia for Northern Ireland and southern scotland. Some practice to put the far north west. Moving through Saturday Night and into sunday, this area of low pressure is still with us. It might get a bit of a pep up as we see some rain moving in from the south. A bit of uncertainty about where well see these outbreaks of rain on sunday. Certainly along the English Channel coast we will see some showers. Generally, the further north you are it should stay predominantly dry with sunny spells on sunday and temperatures on the up, about 21 degrees for glasgow, 22 In London, but there will be rain lingering in the south. We will continue to see heavy showers for southern england for the first perk of the working week, but turning drier and warmer later on. The Health Secretary apologises and says hes let people down, after being caught on camera in an embrace with a close aide. Matt hancock admits he breached social distancing guidelines. Labour says he should be sacked now is the time when the prime Minister Needs to get a grip on this situation. He simply hasnt done so until now. He needs to act.
