We Cant Guarantee that you would be alive in a couple of years. And that was it, really. Dup Mp Sirjeffrey Donaldson has confirmed he has submitted his name to become the next leader of his party. How is that . we will be joined by this cricketer who will tell us why he had his head in his hands, even though hejust hit he had his head in his hands, even though he just hit a six two England Players are self isolating after coming into contact with the scotland midfielder, Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for Covid I9. Ben chilwell and Mason Mount are being kept away from the rest of the squad. It comes just 2a hours before both sides final games of group. At The End of the game on friday between england and scotland, chilwell and mount, who are Chelsea Team mates of Billy Gilmour, appeared in close contact. No other players from the Scotland Squad are self isolating. The England Manager Gareth Southgate has been speaking ahead of his Teams Game kicking off exactly 2a hours from now against the Czech Republic. Well, we dont know at the moment, simon. There has obviously got to be quite a doubt, but there is still a lot of discussions and investigations going on behind the scenes, so. They are at the moment, as andyjust said, they are isolating and we just have to find out over the next 12 hours or so. Gareth southgate there. The Scotland Manager Steve Clarke gave this reaction to the news that Billy Gilmour tested positive for Covid I9 earlier today. Obviously he is upset, as you would expect. He is asymptomatic, no symptoms, so hopefully his health will. Hold up, he wont have too many symptoms and he will get back to playing as quickly as possible. Obviously a blow for us in terms of the team, but a chance for someone else. Lets speak to olly foster, whos at wembley. He is our sports news correspondent. Ollie, this is not the home teams would have been hoping for. Ho. Would have been hoping for. No, absolutely would have been hoping for. No, absolutely not, would have been hoping for. No, absolutely not, so would have been hoping for. Iifr, absolutely not, so that was the big news early this morning, Billy Gilmour testing positive. A huge blow for scotland, he was their Man Of The Match in that goalless draw on Friday Night here at wembley. I was at England Training at lunchtime and i approached the fa and i said, have you got any concerns about Billy Gilmour testing positive . Because obviously he was on the pitch for 90 minutes, almost 90 minutes, and obviously after the game as well those pictures we saw when he came into very close contact with his Chelsea Team mates and obviously whipped we are not privy to is what further close contact there was in the Dressing Rooms. They said, look, we tested all negative as a group, england, yesterday and then had further lateral flow tests today, which were also negative, but as a result of being contacted by public Health England in chilwell and Mason Mount are now having to self isolate away from the group, even though they took full part in a Training Session Today at Tottenham Hotspur Iss Training Ground just to the north of london in enfield. This is a short statement the fa released. They said, as a precaution at this time, and in consultation with public Health England. The entire squad had lateral flow tests today. These are matching the Pcr Uefa tests, which all teams have to take 48 hours before they play. So those two players away now from england and Gareth Southgate also going on to say they are going to be in hourly discussions with public Health England to find out whether those two players will actually be available. Billy gilmour certainly will not be because he has tested positive. Scotland will be keeping everything crossed that that close contact, possibly with other members of the Scotland Squad, doesnt pull them out of what is a must win match against croatia at hampden. And certainly, Gareth Southgate says he cannot pretend this isnt disruptive for him as well because there are just so many unknowns and they are going to wait for a night to see whether there has been any more disruption before he tries to put a team together to play the cheques here tomorrow evening, 8pm kick off. Thank you very much. Joining me now from South London is the chief Football Writer at the independent, miguel delaney. Thanks very much for being with us here on Bbc News this evening. In fact, in tournaments we have probably got quite lucky in tournaments we have probably got quite lucky so far, bar spain. And england quite lucky so far, bar spain. There have been problems with where they are so far, they have problems with where they are so far, they have been a bit disconnected, there they have been a bit disconnected, there has they have been a bit disconnected, there has been talk about the approach Gareth Southgate wants to play, whereas he leads a lot on tactical play, whereas he leads a lot on tactical intelligence and Mason Mount tactical intelligence and Mason Mount is one who believes in that regard, mount is one who believes in that regard, and without him they may be aps regard, and without him they may be gaps in regard, and without him they may be gaps in the regard, and without him they may be gaps in the system. Miguel delaney, thank you very much its a scandal labelled the worst in the history of the nhs. Today a Public Inquiry has heard how schoolchildren who were given Blood Products infected with hiv were handed effective Death Sentences and left to tell their parents they werent expected to survive more than a year or two. The inquiry into how Tens Of Thousands of people were given contaminated blood in the 70s and 80s has been hearing harrowing evidence from former pupils who attended a Boarding School for physically disabled children in hampshire. From 1974 to 1987, more than 120 children at Treloar College were treated for haemophilia, a serious bleeding disorder, by the medical team at a Nhs Unit on the site. At least 72 children later died some from the same family after being given a new drug that was contaminated with hiv and viral hepatitis. Across the uk, its estimated more than 30,000 people were infected by contaminated Blood And Blood products, and at least 3,000 people died as a result. 0ur health editor, hugh pym, reports. They are among the survivors, but theyve lost at least 72 former schoolmates because of treatment with tainted Blood Products. Today, some living with Hiv And Hepatitis c gathered wearing their Campaign Ties at the inquiry, with a week of evidence ahead on what happened at Treloar College in hampshire. Garyjoined The School at the age of ten, and soon, was being treated for his haemophilia with a Blood Clotting agent known as factor eight. Later, aged 18, he and some others were called in by a doctor and told theyd been infected with hiv. He said, we dont know a lot about it and the outlook s not good. We Cant Guarantee that youd be alive in a couple of years. And that was it, really. Treloar s college, shown in this i970s film, was a Boarding School with specialist Nhs Haemophilia Treatment provided at the site. A statement from The School said it was completely supportive of the Campaign Forjustice by former pupils after they were harmed at the nhs clinic. Of more than 100 pupils since the mid i970s, only about a quarter are still alive. I have guilt still being here. Its a stigma, losing 72 friends, school friends, who youve known since you were that high, so thats been difficult. I think im an angry old man now. At the inquiry, bottles with messages for lost Loved Ones are on display. Victims and families have long argued there was an official cover up. Contaminated Blood Products were imported, some made from plasma from donors who were paid, including prisoners. The inquiry will soon be hearing from some of those who were senior Health Officials and other key Decision Makers Back in the late 70s and early i980s. Kenneth clarke, who was Health Minister for some of that time, will also give evidence. But this week, the focus is very much on the Heart Rending treloar s saga. 0ur parents and us were blissfully unaware of the risks that were being taken with our young lives and of the cruel tragedy that was about to unfold. I would like to thank my family for their Support And Love through the years. And finally, the Comradeship And Strength of the remaining treloar s survivors. Without them, i would not have been able to do this today. That report from hugh pym. Well, we can speak now to chris smith, whos the chair of the haemphilia society. Hejoins us from he joins us from ilkley in west yorkshire. Thank you very much for being with us to talk to us today. Forgive me, i call do christmas in the introduction, i do beg your pardon, clive smith. Can you explain for us, this is an extraordinary story, a horrifying story, yet many people it would have almost completely custom bike, yet the demands for this Enquiry Stem back years and it was started under Theresa Mays Premiership and it is likely to be going on i think for at least another year. Least another year. Yes, thats ri. Ht. Least another year. Yes, thats right as least another year. Yes, thats right as you least another year. Yes, thats right. As yOu Say, least another year. Yes, thats right. As yOu Say, the least another year. Yes, thats l right. As yOu Say, the campaign least another year. Yes, thats right. As yOu Say, the campaign for this has gone back over 30 years. The Haemophilia Society and many other groups have been campaigning for this and i think the campaign for this and i think the Campaign Forjustice in relation to the infected Blood Enquiry is somewhat unique in the sense that we think of many other enquiries that have happened over recent years, hillsborough, we think of grenfell tower, and it is all very visible, people understand what happened and what went wrong and why people are seeking justice, what went wrong and why people are seekingjustice, but what went wrong and why people are seeking justice, but in this case as you described so many people died, around 3000 people with Haemophilia Have died from infections, and so many of them died quietly away from the cameras, there has been no single Big One event, so as yOu Say very few people know about what went on and so finally to date has been fantastic opening for The Boys of Treloar School to finally have their voices being heard. Treloar school to finally have their voices being heard. What evidence. Obviously today voices being heard. What evidence. Obviously today was voices being heard. What evidence. Obviously today was very voices being heard. What evidence. Obviously today was very powerful, l obviously today was very powerful, very personal, but during the course of the enquiry, what has been at the evidence that you think has made the strongest impression . It is strongest impression . It is incredibly strongest impression . It is incredibly difficult strongest impression . It is incredibly difficult to strongest impression . It 3 incredibly difficult to say which has been the most impressionable because it has all been hammering. The phase that we are at now in terms of the enquiry, we are currently in the investigative phase, but before we reach this phase, but before we reach this phase the chair heard testimony from arad before devolved nations. The Enquiry Set in leeds in edinburgh, in Northern Ireland and in cardiff as well, and all the evidence is harrowing, but i think particularly intraday s evidence wait to hear from young children and young boys who went to school, hoping that they would leave with an education, qualifications and prospects, and that what they left with was infections with deadly viruses. fine infections with deadly viruses. One ofthe infections with deadly viruses. One of the striking infections with deadly viruses. One of the striking thing is, and perhaps the contamination of Blood Products is bad enough and a lot of that in a sense appears to have been not necessarily within the hands of the nhs because products were being imported, but it is the casual way in which people were given this news at a really very young age, and then left to come to terms to the fact that they have been told they probably were not going to live the very much longer. Probably were not going to live the very much longer. Absolutely. To be told ou very much longer. Absolutely. To be told you have very much longer. Absolutely. To be told you have got very much longer. Absolutely. To be told you have got a very much longer. Absolutely. To be told you have got a death very much longer. Absolutely. To be told you have got a Death Sentence. Told you have got a Death Sentence at any age is very devastating. To be told as a child you have got a Death Sentence and then sent back to school that afternoon and then told you will have to tell your parents on your own is unspeakably wicked to treat people and children like that. It is absolutely harrowing, as yOu Say. And we have heard other evidence throughout the enquiry about people who were tested without their knowledge to see whether they were Hiv Positive or not and in doctors with help at diagnosis from them and people then went on to infect their partners and they went on to die as well. So the scandal has many layers to it, as yOu Say, there is the aspect of the importation of Blood Products, which shouldnt have happened because the uk should have been self sufficient in blood supply, but then the scandal that follows it in terms of the cover up, the testing and over the cover up, the testing and over the years and the decades that people have had to fight for this enquiry. It people have had to fight for this ennui. ,. , people have had to fight for this ennui. ,. ,. People have had to fight for this ennui. ,. ,y. , enquiry. It is a visually important for people enquiry. It is a visually important for people to enquiry. It is a visually important for people to get. Enquiry. It is a visually important for people to get, any enquiry. It is a visually important for people to get, any sense, enquiry. It is a visually important for people to get, any sense, to | enquiry. It is a visually important i for people to get, any sense, to put it crudely, their day in court, to be heard, to have a chance to put some of this on the record for people to begin to understand what people to begin to understand what people may have gone through and not told many people what they were going through, but also there are many people who died, presumably a question of compensation. But how important is it for us perhaps to remember now how this infection was regarded nearly 40 years ago and the sort of treatment . I heard a report earlier today that was describing some of these kids being harassed by journalists as they left school, shouted at about having hiv, kind of publicly humiliated in that way . We have publicly humiliated in that way . Have heard Evidence Today from Gary Webster and he has rightly taken the Headlines Today and his story has been a high profile one. The one person we have not heard about today is the widows who gave evidence anonymously to the enquiry. He gave evidence to the enquiry, not only i dare say because of the stigma that still surrounds hiv and that we still surrounds hiv and that we still have so far to come, so whilst we talk about the i980s and children being harassed at The School gates then, that stigma is still very much alive and well and we see that as evidence, not only from Todays Witness who gave evidence anonymously, but from dozens of anonymously, but from dozens of anonymous witnesses across the uk. Clive smith of the Haemophilia Society. Thank you very much, i hope we will get the chance to talk to you again when the enquiry has progressed a bit further. For now, thanks very much. The latest Government Figures show that in the past 24 hours, five deaths were reported and 10,633 new infections were recorded. That means an average of 9,778 new cases per day in the last week. Over 163,000 people received a first dose of the vaccine in the latest 24 hour period. More than 43. 1 Million people have now had theirfirstjab thats around 81. 9 of uk adults. Over 109,000 people have had their second dose of the vaccine in the latest 24 hour period, meaning more than 31. 4 million people have now had both doses thats 59. 7 of uk adults. The Prime Minister was in North London Today at a Sports Stadium one of many transformed into covid immunisation centres. This was meant to be the day that all social distancing rules were lifted in england, but that has been delayed by four weeks to give more time to getjabs in arms. I think it is looking good Forjuly 19th to be that terminus point. I think what the scientists are saying is that things like flu will come back this winter, we may have a rough winter for all sorts of reasons and there are obviously big pressures on the nhs. More than 1 Million Vaccine Appointments were booked in two days after they were opened up to all Over 18s in england on friday. Meanwhile, planning is under way for a possible autumn booster campaign, but that will depend on the answers to some key questions. First, how long Will Vaccine Protection last . Immunity will wane at some point, but it is unclear when. Antibody levels in the trial volunteers, some of whom got their first Covid Jab over a year ago, will give vital clues. Third Booster Doses might be needed only by certain groups such as the over 65s, as Immunity Levels often decline faster as people age. Second, which Booster Vaccines will be used . A Uk Trial is comparing seven different covid vaccines and examining whether getting a different third jab from your first two doses might provide extra protection. We are hoping to have the results by The End of august that will go to the Joint Committee for vaccines and immunisation and that will tell us about the Side Effects, but also if any of the vaccines are not working properly as a booster. And what about flu . The Flu Jab Campaign under way in september. Flu, protect yourself and others. Health service providers say this means decisions will need to be made soon about how covid vaccines are deployed in the autumn. Can we combine covid 19 jabs with Flu Jabs . Can you have a Covid Jab in one arm and a Flu Jab in another . And do we vaccinate children . It is interesting at the moment that children definitely are in this Delta Variant a Significance Source of transmission. Restrictions were lifted today on the number of people allowed at weddings in england and wales. This couple were married in nottinghamshire after multiple delays due to covid. Sirjeffrey donaldson has announced his intention to stand for the leadership of the democratic unionist party. The party has been in turmoil culminating in Edwin Poots being forced out of the job last week. He had narrowly beaten sirjeffrey in the partys first Leadership Contest in 50 years but was forced to stand down afterjust 21 days. 0ur ireland correspondent, chris page, says sirjeffrey has a daunting task ahead of him. Political comebacks do not come any more quickly the fortunes of the dup as a party to be rejuvenated so rapidly. It has been a hugely bruising time for the biggest party in Northern Ireland and just a few weeks ago Arlene Foster was ousted after an internal Party Coup and then on thursday last we had her Successor Evan puts who had to resign. So in the past hour Sirjeffrey Donaldson has announced he will put forward his name for leadership once again and in a statement he focused on the issue that he thinks can and should unite his party and heal those fractures and that is the Northern Ireland protocol. The de facto Trade Border in the Irish Sea which he says is the number one issue facing Northern Ireland, its people and its place in the uk. Another challenge he may face, he said in the past he would want to be First Minister in the devolved government, but to do that he would have to resign his westminster seat. Be co opted into the devolved assembly and then the whole process around the appointment of First Minister would raise questions about power sharing. Edwin poots had to resign because his party had concerns over the conditions under which he was prepared to share Power Sojeffrey Donaldson may be unopposed as Leader Tomorrow but few would envy him for the task he has had. Teenagers infected with hiv until they would live to become adults, a Public Inquiry into the harrowing testimony of the few survivors voters now know who were given contaminated Blood Products in the 1970s and 1980s. Borisjohnson voices details of Covid Boosterjobs as scientists urge them to speed up plans. Andy Dup Donelson has confirmed he has submitted his name to become the next leader of the party. Stay with us to find out why this cricketer had his head in his hands even though hejust scored had his head in his hands even though he just scored a six. More now on the news that former pupils of a school for children with disabilities, have told a Public Inquiry how more than seventy of the students died because of contaminated Blood Products. The infected Blood Inquiry was set up to examine how thousands of people contracted Hiv And Hepatitis in the 1970s and 1980s. We can speak now to jackie britton, whos a campaigner after contracting Hepatitis C from a contaminated Blood Transfusion in 1983. She gave evidence to the infected Blood Inquiry last year. Thank Blood Inquiry last year. You very much for being wi us thank you very much for being with us this evening. Do you want to tell us this evening. Do you want to tell us a little bit about your story first so people understand perhaps a bit about the background and Whats Revenue to be campaigning this . Well, my story is i gave birth in 1983 and had a Postpartum Haemorrhage and required four units of blood. I went on with my life, had lots of ill health, lots of operations and in 2011 went to the doctors because i was so tired having lots of problems so they did Blood Tests and discovered that my liver was in a serious condition. They went on to test me further and found out that i had Hep C which obviously, ipads for near on 30 years with no treatment. And so im actually at the stage of Slip Sclerosis now. So actually at the stage of Slip Sclerosis now. Actually at the stage of Slip Sclerosis now. So youve got Sclerosis Sclerosis now. So youve got sclerosis now sclerosis now. So youve got sclerosis now because sclerosis now. So youve got sclerosis now because of. Sclerosis now. So youve got| sclerosis now because of the contaminated Blood Products that you were given in that emergency operation. Do you have any idea at what point the nhs realised that the blood you were given and other people were given was contaminated . Well, having watched the inquiry going back a few months back there were documents from The 40s and 50s saying that they knew that there were problems with transfusion of bloods for hepatitis. They didnt know his Hepatitis C at that stage, there wasnt a test for that. But they did know it was transfusion hepatitis. And they said that anybody that had a transfusion should be reviewed. That never ever happened. So everybody that had a Transfusion Have had transfusions in the at risk period. And really should be offered test for fc 28 Hep C. Which is never happened. Do should be offered test for fc 28 Hep C. Which is never happened. C. Which is never happened. Do you think our c. Which is never happened. Do you think your medical c. Which is never happened. Do you think your medical prognosis c. Which is never happened. Do you think your medical prognosis in think your medical prognosis in terms of the development of sclerosis would be different if the infection had been picked up at an earlier stage . Shares in the uks biggest supermarkets have jumped after morrisons rejected a Takeover Bid from an american private equity firm. Morrisons Share Price rose by around a third with 0cado, sainsburys and tesco also seeing increases. The uks fourth largest supermarket rejected the offerfrom clayton, dubilier rice, saying it significantly undervalues the business. 0ur Reporter Nina Nanji joins me. Big news in the retail world . It really is. This is generated quite a stir in the market. At the centre of it all is one company morrison. They are the uks fourth largest Soup Market after tesco, sainsbury and as duffel to headquartered in york shire. But they actually employ around 118,000 people all around the uk. It is quite a significant number of staff they are. What we learned of the week and was they have received a Takeover Offer from an american firm and that offer was for around five and that offer was for around five and a half billion pounds to buy out morrison. Morrison says that price wasnt right. They said a significantly undervalued the business in their view and they rejected it out of hand. Today we got the Market Reaction and as you can see, the Share Price or more since was up by more than 30 on the day. That suggests one of two things, either the market thinks that this American Firm See Dnr is going to come back with a revised offer at a higher price or we could see other potential suitors of emerging and that could lead to something of a Bidding Warfor morrisons. Something of a Bidding War for Morrisons Something of a Bidding War for morrisons. ,. ,. , morrisons. And that would please the markets. Morrisons. And that would please the markets an morrisons. And that would please the markets. An indication of the health | markets. An indication of the health of the Uk Supermarket sector. You mentioned it could be a case of in expecting this company to come back. It almost sounds like morrisons and saying come on, give us something better. It doesnt sound like theyve completely closed the door on it. Would there be concerns though if a company of this kind of work to end up owning more since . There are concerns. 0ver Work to end up owning more since . There are concerns. Over the back we heard from labour who sounded the alarm of a potentialjob losses. Thats because this deal would evolve private equity. Private equity firms are essentially investment companies. What they do is they seek to pick out firms that they think are undervalued but have they think are undervalued but have the potential to do better. And by those companies, they try and turn them around and then they sell them for a profit. 0r them around and then they sell them for a profit. Or at least thats the idea. When you have a restriction like that you could up 70 eight C And Job losses. We see that in the past and that is the concern here as well. Its worth mentioning that we have actually seen a flurry of interest from Private Equity Firms for supermarkets in the uk. 0f for supermarkets in the uk. Of course we had most recently the asda Take Out and that was partly driven by private equity. 0ne Take Out and that was partly driven by private equity. One of the reasons for that is because of valuations. In other words, the Uk Stock market is seen as relatively cheap compared to other markets. I cheap compared to other markets. I can imagine can morrison bristling at these companies need turning around. In terms of people covered people remember when as it was bought by walmart. Its a bit of a culture class. More since should be its a very distinctive supermarket, a even within the Uk Supermarket business it stands out, its got a very distinctive style which is a lot out to the man who founded it. Thats right. It remains to be seen what will happen here. Its also interesting that is Notjust Morrisons thats been moving in all this today. Today we also saw shares in the whole sector picking up. We saw the likes of Tesco News and sainsbury s Share Prices at all of those stocks went up on the news of this potential takeover. Analyst said that could be partly driven by rising optimism for the whole industry. But it also could be fuelled by speculation that some of the other companies could also be come essential Take Out targets. Thank you very much. The New Zealand weightlifter, Laurel Hubbard, is set to become the first transgender athlete to compete at the olympics. The countrys 0lympic committee has named her as part of the Womens Team for the tokyo games. Heres our correspondent, phil mercer. Sport is all about pushing boundaries, and thats certainly what Laurel Hubbard will be doing at the tokyo olympics. She will be the first transgender athlete to compete at the games. She has satisfied domestic and international criteria. She was competing in mens events until she transitioned in 2012. And shes had a pretty decorated career for New Zealand. Back in 2017, she won a Silver Medal at the world championships. She thought her career was over at the commonwealth games, a year later in 2018, when she broke her arm. But shes back to full fitness and back in the squad. The New Zealand 0lympic officials are very cognisant of the fact that Gender Identity, in their words, is a very sensitive and complex issue in sport that requires a balance between Human Rights and the need for fairness in the field of play. There will be those who disapprove of her selection, but as far as the athlete herself is concerned, she said in a statement that she was humbled and that she was grateful. Nicola williams is from Fair Play for women a Campaigning And Consultancy group which says its working to protect the rights of women and girls in the uk. She says Laurel Hubbard competing in the Womens Category would be unfair. We have to think, you know, why do we even have female sports, female weightlifting in the first place . You know, it is because male bodies are different to female bodies and so, you know, someone who is born male has benefited from lifelong testosterone and female people havent so, you know, when we ask should Laurel Hubbard complete in Womens Weightlifting because the answer is no because Laurel Hubbard has been born male and benefited from testosterone so it is Unfairfair Laurel to be taking the place Of A Natal Born Woman who is now not making it to the olympics. Skyler bailar is an elite swimmer the first transgender athlete on an american collegiate Mens Team and hes also an author and activist. I think that the first thing we have to start with when we talk about transgender athletes and sport is that trans women are women and trans men are men and i think oftentimes when we talk about this people are, quote, displacing other athletes and the reality is that when somebody wins it doesnt matter what their Gender Identity or Gender Background is, when they when they are absolutely Displacing Somebody else because that is what meaning means, right . And cis women displays other cis women all the time when they win and trans women are women and sometimes they are also going to win. Im nota im not a Testosterone Expert ironically really clear on that. Clear on that. Physical advantages from growing up male, testosterone and so on. Sure, and i think, you know, im not a Testosterone Expert, i want to be really clear on that and i also know that biological differences in sport are many, especially within cis women and heres the thing and this is where Sexism And Misogyny and also racism also come into play. If you look at a white man such as michael phelps, when he has a biological advantage such as having half the levels of Anaphylactic Acid that the typical athlete produces people praise him, the Olympic Committee praises him as a superior genetic specimen, but when women have any kind of difference within their bodies its considered unfair, and this isnt specific to transgender women. We see this all the time. Serena williams has been policed multiple times and this happens often more with black women specifically. Serena williams is not a trans women and has been called a man all the time because of how her body looks and how she is good at sport. So, this is not new. This is the continued policing of black and brown womens bodies in sport which is also spilling over to other marginalised groups such as trans women. July 19th is still looking good to be an End Point for restrictions in england, borisjohnson has said. But he added that Delta Variant cases are still rising and the priority is to keep more variants out of the uk. Doctors and Hospital Trusts say the government must begin planning for an Autumn Jab Rollout now. The government says it is planning Autumn Covid Booster shots but awaiting trial results. Lets have a listen to a little of what the Prime Minister has had to say this morning. I think you can never exclude that there will be some new horror that we simply havent budgeted for or accounted for. But looking at where we are, looking at the efficacy of the vaccines against all variance that we can currently see, after the delta, the lot of them, i think its looking good forjuly the 19th to be that terminus point. Saul faust is professor of Paediatric Immunology and infectious diseases at University Hospital Southampton and the Chief Investigator for the covid Booster Trial. How early do you think it will be necessary program. How early do you think it will be necessary to program. How early do you think it will be necessary to provide will be necessary to provide boosters . I was reading the figures out earlier, looks very impressive. Nearly 80 plus percent of people getting at least one of the vaccinations, a little bit lower obviously, getting both. Progress has been good. How early are we going to be boosters . The honest answer is we going to be boosters . The honest answer is we dont going to be boosters . The honest answer is we dont know going to be boosters . The honest answer is we dont know for going to be boosters . The honest. Answer is we dont know for certain for the majority of people. But remember, we started the programme in december and january. For the most vulnerable. Weve also been doing trials for over a year. When we started all the clinical trials of the Oxford Vaccine in the uk and the other vaccines in the world it was in april or may of last year. Weve been tracking people for a long time. The thing about boosters is twofold, although we know immunity wanes over time. It could be that people who are most vulnerable dont have a good long lasting immunity, we dont know that yet but thats a possibility. And why they might need a booster in the autumn. And the other thing is to deal with variance we know we might need higher Antibody Levels or we might need a Tweak Vaccine but they are not available yet. For this autumn our option is to say well 0k, how vulnerable are the people that are most vulnerable and which of those groups might need a booster . And we need to be ready to provide Joint Committee on immunisation with that data so they can make the decisions at the right time and make sure that people that are most vulnerable are protected. You are obviously concerned vulnerable are protected. You are obviously concerned at vulnerable are protected. You are obviously concerned at the vulnerable are protected. You are obviously concerned at the stage | obviously concerned at the stage with the result of this research. I suppose the practical question people ask is the question of availability. 0ut People Ask is the question of availability. Out of Booster Doses. Attica to be available in the autumn, early winter . Yes, thats wh we autumn, early winter . Yes, thats why we are autumn, early winter . Yes, thats why we are testing autumn, early winter . Yes, thats why we are testing seven autumn, early winter . Yes, thats why we are testing seven of autumn, early winter . Yes, thats why we are testing seven of the l why we are testing seven of the vaccine and three at Half Dose. It might be that we only need a Half Dosein might be that we only need a Half Dose in order to boost usjust might be that we only need a Half Dose in order to boost us just as well is we need to. That of course means we might have twice as many vaccines available if you only have to use half the volume. So thats one of the questions. Actually i think the Vaccine Task Force have asked her to do this research with the national institute of research because they can then plan which vaccines are going to be online and go to be available. This is quite an Inspiration Programme but its from the Vaccine Task Force Research System and of course the nhs you have to plan how we are going to be giving these vaccines. Maybe with fluid one arm as people been saying today that again depends on the results of another trial that will also be getting its results to the in time for decision to be made. We will look forward to hearing from you again come The End of august. Thank you very much. Weve seen some sunshine but across southern england where its been for some areas here very wet so far, there has been yet more it rained with temperature struggling around 12, 13 degrees and these Weather Fronts moving away into tuesday and the Weather Fronts approaching northwestern areas. We will still see some outbreaks of rain affecting parts of england and wales into tonight becoming compliant to parts of southern england by morning and elsewhere we are Clearing Skies and temperature quite low for the time of the year. A hint of blue showing up in parts of scotland in the highlands. A few spots with a touch of Frost Briefly Yesterday begins but with Sunshine And Scotland and Northern Ireland, the Weather Fronts coming in from the northwest and increasing cloud in the western areas with outbreaks of rain gradually moving in as the day goes on.
