Of course many will relive the dreams of 2016 when wales made all the way to the semifinals of the euros, something of a similar route, but they will just enjoy the fact that wales are through and it really doesnt matter that they were dominated by the italians today, it really doesnt matter that they might face another big opponent in the next round, what matters most is that they are through and a few hundred fans here, many thousands back home in wales, will be celebrating. I think it proves that wales is a it proves that wales is a footballing nation as well, many people label them as a rugby nation, the italian Soccer Paper saying, thank goodness we are not playing rugby it shows that wales do have something to offer these major tournaments and may be 2016 was not a one off so there will be lots of Power Fans at home, many frustrated they could not come because of course the official advice from the welsh government was not to travel due to the pandemic but why not Dare To Dream . They will face either russia or finland in the next round that will be decided tomorrow, and those who think back to five years ago, we beat russia then so why not do it again . And well find out how this story and many others are covered in tomorrows front pages at 10 30pm and 11 30pm in the papers. 0ur Guestsjoining Me Tonight are the spectator s Kate Andews and James Rampton from the independent. A leading scientific advisor has suggested that people who have been double vaccinated could face fewer restrictions. Dr susan hopkins of public Health England told the bbc that might include the possibility of them not having to self isolate or quarantine. Ministers are aiming to have two thirds of the Adult Population Double jabbed by the new Unlocking Date ofjuly the 19th. Heres our Health Correspondent anna collinson. All adults in england can now receive a coronavirus vaccine, and demand is high. Nhs england says more than 700,000 appointments were booked on the first day over 18s became eligible. Over the weekend, football stadiums, including here in tottenham, have transformed into large vaccination centres. And these long queues of people will be a Heart Warming Sight for Health Officials who say, the more people who are jabbed, the sooner ourfreedom can return. Ben, youre 18 and youve travelled over an hour to be here today why . Because getting vaccinated is so important. I mean, it will reduce hospital admissions, and itll make me a lot happier to see my parents. Especially with going to university in september, we are hoping that we can have a normal life. Im expecting that, by The End of the year, for people who are vaccinated, borders will be much. It will be easier to cross borders. Ill be able to go back to india, meet my parents, go back to singapore, meet my friends. All adults in wales and Northern Ireland can also book a vaccine. So can over 18s in glasgow. But for the rest of scotland, people need to be over 30. This comes as a trial is looking to see if people who are fully vaccinated can avoid self isolating if a close contact tests positive. They would instead take daily tests. We are moving steps forward, and i think that, in a time in the future, im not sure when, but at a time in the future, i can imagine the situation where we will have alternatives to isolation for people who have two doses of the vaccine. Alternatives to isolation could also open up foreign travel, which would help the uks struggling aviation industry. Ministers say they are trying to be as flexible as possible. Well, of course, theres frustration. All of us want to have a Holiday In The Sun wherever possible, but we are right as well to balance that with the need to control variants of concern. Scientists advised we should holiday at home this summer, but, from tomorrow, the Scottish Government is introducing a Travel Ban to and from parts of Greater Manchester amid concerns about high infection rates, a move that has angered the mayor. Ill be writing to thel First Minister today. Ill be asking for compensation i for the individuals who might lose holidays and the businesses who might lose bookings. You know, why should a couple from salford who are double jabbed, who are about to go on a Walking Holiday in scotland not be able to go . Its completely disproportionate. This pop up Vaccination Site in halifax is hoping to curb rising cases. Are you allergic to anything . So far, 59 of adults have received two doses. The government wants this to have risen beyond 66 byjuly the 19th in the hope complete unlocking can follow. Anna collinson, Bbc News. 0ur political correspondent Damian Grammaticas explained that as more of us get the second jab the calls to ease restrictions are likely to grow. You heard Andy Burnham said there, and peace have been saying it, people at home have been thinking that, can they have more latitude to do things . Mps. We know the government is looking at this, there is that study happening to see whether people who are double vaccinated might not need to do Quarantine Or Isolation if they come into contact with someone who has covid or symptoms, we also know that they are looking and will look at countries like israel to see whether travel can be opened up a bit more because of that, but remember the key thing here is that the first thing is the number of people who have been double vaccinated and that is why those restrictions, the easing of restrictions, was pushed back already, that number needs to go back already, that number needs to 9 up back already, that number needs to go up and they need to see results of that study to see whether double vaccination reduces the risk of transmission, there is a lot of detail to be worked through so this will not happen soon but it is all about when we get beyond restrictions how we live with a virus and what measures we still needin virus and what measures we still need in place. We can speak now to Dr Bharat pankhania, a senior clinical lecturer at the University Of Exeter medical school. He is also a liberal Democrat Councillor in somerset. Thank you very much forjoining us. What is your view of this approach thatis what is your view of this approach that is being taken, somewhat cautious, by Doctor Susan hopkins about how double doses might free us to do more things . I about how double doses might free us to do more things . To do more things . I would agree with doctor to do more things . I would agree with Doctor Susan to do more things . I would agree with Doctor Susan hopkins, to do more things . I would agree with Doctor Susan hopkins, the i with Doctor Susan hopkins, the united states has already started to adopt that strategy, so what we are saying is, once you are fully immunised, ie you have got two vaccines, you are as well prepared as well be. The key item is we need many more people to also be in that cohort of fully immunised and, when we get to that stage, i think it would be saferfor us we get to that stage, i think it would be safer for us to allow people who are fully immunised to resume more social activities. But we keep hearing about the strength and the transmissibility of certain strains, particularly the Data Variant which is causing problems here, at the moment, wonder what you are suggesting have to be caveat it depending on the variant we are dealing with . Depending on the variant we are dealing with . Depending on the variant we are dealing with . Delta. The good news about dealing with . Delta. The good news about the dealing with . Delta. The good news about the data dealing with . Delta. The good news about the Data Variant dealing with . Delta. The good news about the Data Variant is i dealing with . Delta. The good news about the Data Variant is it | dealing with . Delta. The good. News about the Data Variant is it is not disease causing and its not bypassing the vaccines. Delta. The Bad News is its more infectious therefore what we have got to do is immunise as many people as possible and get them over the line into the immune status. That will help us. If, on the other hand, the Delta Variant was no disease causing war it was bypassing the vaccines, then i would say, we have a problem, we have got to continue with restrictions. And when the thing thatis restrictions. And when the thing that is important, people who are fully immunised are less infectious, so another reason to immunised people in schools, Colleges Etc where transmission starts and kicks off and then takes off, we really need to immunise this younger Age Group very fast. Haifa need to immunise this younger Age Grouo very fast need to immunise this younger Age Group very fast. How much younger . Some People Group very fast. How much younger . Some people have group very fast. How much younger . Some people have expressed group very fast. How much younger . | some people have expressed Concern And Alarm at the idea of vaccinating very young children who are not at risk generally speaking of covid 19. Caution, caution, caution, we need not to be asleep, so it has been licensed for five and above. Remember, a variant can arrive at any time and a variant that causes severe disease in young children can be very harmful and furthermore young children who get infected, and they die, also some of them go on to develop long covid like symptoms. 12. Therefore that is the best protection we have got . Immunisation and that would allow schools to function better rather than the current Stop Start we have got, so i would say, as it has been licensed for 12 and above, please do so, it will really make a big difference. But youre not suggesting children under 12 would have to be vaccinated . That under 12 would have to be vaccinated . Under 12 would have to be vaccinated . . , vaccinated . At the moment, the licensin vaccinated . At the moment, the licensing has vaccinated . At the moment, the licensing has not vaccinated . At the moment, the licensing has not been vaccinated . At the moment, the licensing has not been granted l vaccinated . At the moment, the L Licensing has not been granted for Under 12s so i cannot say but if it were, there is no reason not to because, remember, we immunise our children against mumps, measles etc, and look at the difference it makes, it prevents a lot of ill health and diseases, and its the same thing over here, it is prevention, protection and that is a much better strategy than continuous shutdown and continuous Contact Tracing and restriction of movement. Goad and continuous Contact Tracing and restriction of movement. Restriction of movement. Good to talk to you. Restriction of movement. Good to talk to you, thank restriction of movement. Good to talk to you, thank you restriction of movement. Good to talk to you, thank you for restriction of movement. Good to talk to you, thank you for your i talk to you, thank you for your time. The latest Government Figures show that, in the past 2a hours, six deaths were reported and 9,284 new infections were recorded. That means an average of 9,365 new cases per day in the last week. Over 280,000 people received a first dose of the vaccine in the latest 24 hour period. Nearly 43 Million people have now had theirfirstjab thats around 82 of uk adults. 236,000 people have had their second dose of the vaccine in the latest 24 hour period. 0ver 31. 3 million people have now had both doses thats 59. 5 of uk adults. Brazil has now recorded more than 500,000 coronavirus deaths, making it only the second country, after the us, to pass that figure. More than 2,000 people have died of covid there in the past day alone. Its led to protests this weekend at president bolsonaros approach he refuses to back measures like social distancing. Angus crawford reports. On a beach where rio normally comes to play, a bleak memorial 500 flowers to mark 500,000 deaths. And across this country still, the graveyards receive more of covids victims. Is it any wonder . Look at the crowded trains. No social distancing here. But many blame the government for allowing the virus to spread. Hoping for so called herd immunity. And as the number of deaths grows, so does the anger. Translation the feeling here is one of indignation. | we cant stand it any more. The government is worse than the virus. Translation he took too long to buy the vaccine. Herd immunity wont do any good. The only immunity you can get is with the vaccine. Theres no other way. Ive lost many friends, almost lost a cousin. Millions of people are orphans, fatherless, motherless and childless. There are protests across brazil. The banner reads, bolsonaro out. Hes the president who once called covid the little flu, and they blame him for whats happening but, in a tweet, the Countrys Health Minister insisted he was working tirelessly to vaccinate all brazilians in the shortest time possible. Saving lives and stopping the Health System being overwhelmed two key priorities. But the Vaccination Campaign seems to be stuttering. 29 of the population given a first dose, only 11 a second. And so they march in their thousands against what they see as government incompetence, calling for their president to be impeached. This Health Emergency may soon become a political crisis. Angus crawford, Bbc News. The headlines on Bbc News. Welsh joy as they qualify for the last 16 in the euro 2020 tournament despite defeat in rome. A senior scientist says it might be possible for people with both covid jabs to face fewer restrictions and travel without quarantining. More than half A Million people in brazil have now died from Coronavirus Experts warn the outbreak could worsen. The former speaker of the House Of Commons and ex tory mp, john bercow, has been defending his decision to join the Labour Party. During his time as speaker, Mr Bercow made controversial decisions over the passage of brexit related legislation and had several Run Ins with the conservatives. He was also accused of presiding over a culture of Bullying Something he rejects. He denies the move to labour is a tactic to distract from the legacy of these claims but does admit some regrets from his time in office. We all make mistakes. Have i been perfect in every instance . Can i say that, with the benefit of hindsight, i have never done something differently . Of course i couldnt, but i come back to the central Proposition One has as a private citizen the right to make a judgment about which political party to support. I believe, in terms of values, the Labour Party is preferable to the conservative party. More than 800,000 jobs in the uks travel sector could be at risk thats the warning from a union representing aviation workers. The british airline Pilots Association is appealing for urgent action from the government to end restrictions on travel which it calls ludicrously cautious. The government says it is working with the sector to navigate the challenges. The best Industry Estimates at the moment are that aviation will take 4 5 years to recover, and some sectors of the market, for example some business travel, probably will not recover for longer than that. Its a devastating blow to the whole of the aviation sector, but that means trouble for the uk economy. If we do not have a thriving aviation sector, then instead of Global Britain we will have grounded britain. The bbc has learned that the Post Office has made payouts to 400 former Sub Postmasters and mistresses who were victims of the faulty horizon Computer System. An It Fault made it look as if money had gone missing from Post Office accounts. A number of staff were prosecuted, with their convictions later quashed others suffered financial ruin or gave up their businesses. 0ur Consumer affairs correspondent, colletta smith, has been hearing about the impact on three generations of one family. When we came here, this used to be a Post Office. Anjuna and Baljit Sethi owned this branch. In fact, Anjunas Dad was a sub postmaster, too. They are a Post Office family. But 20 years ago, they went from running a successful business to financial ruin. It was all because, in 2001, the Post Office Computer System at their branch started showing big losses, which baljit was being asked to cover from his own pocket. So i said to the Post Office, sorry, i cant put in £17,000. I dont have that kind of money. The Post Office said, if they wouldnt pay up, the branch would be closed. The sethis had no choice. They lost their business and were forced into bankruptcy. We managed a year or two, just like that, just living from hand to mouth. He was more worried about us losing our house, this house. They tried not to let it impact the children but, some days, they couldnt hide the tears. She was crying, and our daughter said, mum, what happened . I dont know, something has got into my eyes. And, of course, my boys, you know, like, it was hard for them as well. You feel helpless, in a way. You feel like theyvej done nothing wrong. Adip and amit found it hard as teenagers, watching their parents lose everything after decades of work for the Post Office. We had an Armed Robbery on my 18th birthday, and my mum was screaming downstairs. I came running down and she was holding the door to stop people trying to get into the house. Thats what it was like living in a Post Office family with your house adjoined to it. So for them then to what happened, for them to lose everything because of a System Error that was no fault of their own, just, its kind of like a bit of a kick in the teeth. The postal Affairs Minister said those who lost Money But Werent convicted over those Computer Errors are beginning to receive payouts. Payouts under the scheme have now begun, and government will continue to work with the Post Office to see that the scheme delivers on all of its objectives. The Post Office say they are working as quickly as they can to process around 2,500 claims but, 21 years after their livelihood was taken away from them, the Sethi Family are running out of patience. Cut the delays and get the ball rolling. At least show that, a bit of humility in that respect. I want to see them giving this compensation when im alive, so that at least, what they did wrong to us, i can give something to my grandchildren, if i couldnt give it to my children. Baljit sethi ending that report there by colletta smith. Mcdonalds has announced its recruiting 20,000 more staff across the uk and ireland. The fast Food Chain says the new staff will not replace thejobs lost throughout the pandemic but are additional roles as a result of plans to open more than 50 new restaurants over the next year. A member of ugandas 0lympic squad has become the first to test positive for covid 19 on Arrival Injapan for next months games. It comes as organisers unveil the kind of facilities being laid on for athletes at the Olympic Village in tokyo and the measures designed to keep them safe. Rupert Wingfield Hayes has been taking a look. This is the Tokyo 0lympic this is the tokyo Olympic Village, its the first chance any of us in the media have had a chance to take a look at what would be the hub of the Tokyo 0lympic a look at what would be the hub of the Tokyo Olympic Games because in a few weeks time thousands of athletes from All Over The World will arrive in tokyo and this is where they will stay during the games. The olympic organisers have brought us here to show us how they will do that safely. This is a representation of what the Athletes Village bedrooms look like, and these are the beds. They are quite small. They are also made of cardboard, which is environmentally friendly, bedrooms is they are shared, but the main issue about the design of these bedrooms is they are shared, as they always have been, but because of the pandemic they have been many experts who have said that sharing rooms is a really bad idea. So this is one of the main dining halls, and you can see its pretty vast, and it needs to be because they will serve 45,000 meals every day during the games. Now, to mitigate the risk of having so many people coming in here every day and mixing together, they are telling athletes that they need to use their Smartphone App to find out when its least busy here, to come alone, to pick up their meal and come to one of these tables which will have plastic dividers on them, and they are being told they must then eat their meal alone and do so quickly. It doesnt sound like an awful lot of fun, but that is how they are trying to mitigate the risk. This is the main gym and again you can see its pretty huge, apparently, there is room for 500 people to train at any one time here and they have these dividers between the machines, but the main anti covid measure they will enforce here is to make everybody who comes in wear a mask, even when they are on these machines, and its hard to see how you would enforce that but how these athletes will wear a mask while training hard on one of these machines. So this is a facility that is specifically built because of the covid 19 pandemic, you would not find it at a normal 0lympics, this is a fever clinic, that is where you go and get tested if you have a fever or develop symptoms, you then get a Pcr Test and if that comes back positive the athlete will be brought to one of these Specialist Isolation rooms, and this has an Air Filtration System which means no virus can get out of the room and this is where they will be kept until they can be moved somewhere else. Theyve become unlikely online stars thanks to their antics on nestcams, and now its hoped the popularity of four owls in somerset in south West England will help promote conservation. Barn owl numbers in the area are in decline and theres been a Call Forfarmers to install more nest boxes. As Scott Ellis reports, it now seems to be paying off. Just look at the wing of this. You can see its not yet fully developed. Born in the wild, but famous in tens of thousands of homes worldwide thanks to nestcam. These are the parents, finn and 0rla. The eggs were laid in early april and hatched a month later, all in a Nesting Box in a barn in somerset s blackdown hills. They have had their first outing, too, to have a numbered ring attached to a leg, the birds visibly unmoved by the experience. They are, after all, nocturnal. Parents are feeding them during the night and then they are sleeping during the day. So the adults are sleeping as well during the day. So this is their sleep time. That is why they are so docile when you ring them . Yep, they literally are falling asleep on you while youre ringing them, which is very sweet. Ringing the four owlets will help identify them if they are found in future years in other Nesting Boxes or, sadly, if they die. A quarter of Barn Owls end up as roadkill. Somerset s Barn Owl population declined ten years ago because of widespread floods. The good news is it is now on the up. Actually, it did not affect them very much, because they are not stupid. They just flew to a different part and they bred in a different area and then they recolonised once the floods dissipated. These four are not likely to fly far from their nest when they depart in a few weeks time. Theres plenty of voles and mice here for them to eat. So i do not see them going hungry. And of course we are in an area where theres no major roads and we are not building houses here, so they are in a relatively safe environment but, as i said before, that is not the picture nationally. Nationally, nature is really in trouble and all of these habitats are shrinking. Give it another month and the famous four will be getting Hunting Lessons from Mum And Dad and may even consider moving out. So watch the nestcam now before it is too late. It is hoped their popularity will highlight the importance of natural habitats in an ever developing world. Scott ellis, Bbc News. Now its time for a look at the weather with matt taylor. Good evening. We have had a lot of cloud across eastern scotland, a few showers continue through the night, Grey Daysin continue through the night, grey days in central, southern areas.
