Proved a tricky one and tensions flared up again three weeks ago, when Prince William and Prince Harry responded in angry terms to the revelations of the report about martin bashir s now controversial interview with their mother. The ramifications of that are still unfolding with, for example, the bbc refusing to commit to Prince Williams plea never to show any part of the interview again. This week, another row unfolded after this report from our correspondentJohnny Diamond. When it was revealed on sunday that Harry And Meghan had named their second child, their daughter, lilibet, it was wildly presumed that they had first spoken to the queen and subsequent stories of the press from friends of the couple strongly suggested that harry had sought permission from his grandmother. A source close to the sussex is told the bbc that harry had spoken to the queen before the birth of his second child and would have mentioned the name, but a Palace Source has made it very clear that this was not the case. The queen, the bbc has been told, was never asked about the use of her childhood nickname, lilibet. Within a few hours, what that Palace Source said was strongly rejected by the Duke And Duchess of sussex. In a letter to news organisations, a Law Firm acting for the couple said the allegations in the Bbc Report were false and defamatory and should not be repeated but the claim was repeated by the bbc with Johnny Diamond going on to represent the Sussexs Side of the story as well. The Backend Response from a Sussex Spokesperson saying about the queen was the first person, the Family Member that harry spoke to and in the conversation he shared their hope of naming their daughter lilibet. If the queen had not been supportive, the spokesperson said, the couple would not have used the name. So, something of a direct contradiction there between what a Palace Source told the bbc and what the sussexs or a spokesperson of the sussexs are now saying. That contradiction left some viewers confused. This tweet says. But others were concerned about the origins of the bbc s apparent scoop. Meanwhile, andrew wells thought. Chris mitchell echoed that last Point Of View and recorded this video for us. I have just seen yet more reporting on the fabricated news about the naming of the latest royal baby. This is a non story whipped up by royal correspondence, desperate for a story to justify their own positions. Please stop trying to create the News And Stick to reporting it. Nobody needs to seek permission from anybody to use any name, so why spend so much time and effort reporting that someone didnt . Also, didnt harry want to step out of the limelight . Let him. Well, we asked Bbc News for their perspective on all of this but we are told that due to the legal sensitivities of the subject, they would not be able to comment at this stage or put forward anyone for interview. Do let us know your thoughts on that or on any aspect of Bbc News. Details of how to contact us at The End of the programme. Now for some of your other comments this week. On the early hours of tuesday morning, portugal was moved off the green Travel List onto the Amber List of countries, from which those from which those arriving must take two coronavirus tests and quarantine for ten days. Bbc News Covered Travellers rush to get home before Portugals Change of status and the frustration felt by those, who had had their holidays cut short. People have been scrambling to get back to the uk before the deadline with holiday makers queueing to book flights. Kirsty, who lives In London, says it is expensive. It is a massive inconvenience and it is costing a lot of money to have to come home and cut the holiday short, so. And with such short notice, i think as well is the main thing. For esther and audrey, it has been a stressful weekend. Like many, they struggled to secure the tests that they needed for the flight home. We are really worried. We paid more money since we got here than what we actually paid for the holiday. Most here thought portugal was a safe bet, until on thursday, the Uk Government suddenly decided otherwise. Paul manely picked out the phrase used Byjenny Hill there. And others thought they detected a wider tendency across Bbc News to push the case of the aggrieved travellers. Here is kathy bellingham. President s, Prime Ministers, advisers, Secret Service agents and, of course, journalists have descended to cornwall this weekend for the g7 summit. It is the first time that President Biden has Met Borisjohnson in person and the first time that leaders of the worlds biggest democracies have met since the start of the pandemic, so Theres Plenty to discuss and no shortage of Bbc Staff there to report on what emerges. Hello, this is Bbc News. I am Ben Brown live in cornwall at the g7 summit. For all the warm words and pictures, there is one issue of immediate friction. And that shows america back on the global stage, caring about what is happening in other places. The first meeting between a british Prime Minister and an american president is a big moment to note. So, i think borisjohnson will be very pleased at how that first encounter with Joe Biden went. Gavin pearce was punted on thursday to voice the complaint that will be familiar to long time News Watch viewers. Theres plenty of domestic interest in euro 2020, the Football Championship postponed from last year, where england, scotland and wales are all competing. Tuesdays news at 6pm looked forward to the start of the tournament with a focus on one of those teams. And lets hope that gareth southgate s strikers are better at heading the target. We are with the England Camp as they prepare for the euros. That phrase, lets Hope England strikers hit the Target Points to one of the challenges facing Bbc News and covering the euros. Not all of the audience will be hoping that, particularly the fans from scotland, who play england on friday. And, although News Bulletins also carried features on the scottish and welsh football teams during the week, on wednesday, Caroline Penman thought shed detected a wider unfairness in the coverage, asking. On a similartheme, Gavin Williamson also, often appears on bbc television, most recently in an interview on breakfast last week, and when he does so, his aston always describes him as Education Secretary. True enough, but for martin chapman, perhaps not the all truth. He asks. Consider that suggestion passed on, martin. In the meantime, Mr Williamson was quoted this week on the decision by students at one of Oxfords University colleges to remove a portrait from the queen and the common room. The Education Secretary for england branded the move as simply absurd but others thought that description could apply to the bbc s coverage of the story with Daryl Millar tweeting. And Michael Siva begged the bbc. Finally, among the unsung heroes and heroines in Television News are the Floor Managers, who ensure that presenters and guests are sitting in the right place, Miked Up correctly and with that last Minute Page of script to hand as Peter Bevan demonstrated while martin was on air on the News Channel last saturday. No we didnt know what to do then. Should peterjoin me, should he not . Hello, this is Bbc News and this is Peter Bevan. The headlines. An unscheduled appearance from peterborough. Martin Cox Martin tweeted,. No Floor Manager to interrupt me in our temporary and rather basic covid 19 friendly studio here, although I Covid I9 friendly studio here, although i do look forward to seeing peter when we return. Thank you for all of your comments this week and if you want to share all of your thoughts this week. E mail us. Or you can find us on twitter. You can call us on. And do have a look at previous interviews on our website. That is all from us. We will be back to hear your thoughts on Bbc News coverage again next week. Goodbye. Good evening. Theres certainly been a lot more cloud around today, but not for all of us. In fact, further south and east, we did get some sunshine and some warmth. This was hastings a little earlier on. A Weather Front introduced more cloud generally across the country and a slightly fresher feel behind it as well. Now, the cloud didnt produce that much in the way of rain, but certainly it was quite persistent. And at times, many of us had scenes like this. This was leek in staffordshire. Good grass cutting weather, though, it has to be said. Now, as we move through this evening, that Weather Front sinks its way into the south east. We keep some cloud through the night as well. And because it was a cold front and its introduced something a little less humid behind, itll be a much more comfortable night for trying to get a good nights sleep. Overnight lows between 9 11; degrees. High pressure then builds once again in from the South West and the Wind Direction coming from the South West, so some pretty warm, humid air starts to return as that Air Source comes all the way up from the azores. So, on saturday, it may well start off quite cloudy, but the sunshine breaks through very quickly indeed. A few isolated showers into the far north of scotland, and maybe a little more cloud into the north west. So, here, 14 17 degrees, but we could see highest values of 24. Thats the mid 70s Fahrenheit by the middle of the afternoon. It bodes well for day three of the second test at edgbaston. As you can see quite clearly, certainly more sunshine than weve seen today and turning increasingly hot on sunday. Now, you cant avoid it, yes, the euros arrive, and wales first match looks likely, although its in baku, to be a hot affair as well. 27 degrees is likely with Blue Sky and sunshine. Back Close To Home now for sunday, a lot of sunshine around on sunday. A weak Weather Front will bring some cloud and Showery Rain into the Western Isles potentially, but 26 degrees not out of the question for aberdeen. 28 degrees is likely into the london area, and that means that for englands opening match against croatia at wembley, it is certainly going to be a hot affair. Sunscreen and Sun Hat at the ready if youre lucky enough to have tickets. The heat looks likely to peak on monday with indications of something a little fresher from tuesday. This is Bbc News, im Christian Fraser in cornwall, where Queen Elizabeth has been hosting a lavish reception for World Leaders attending the g7 summit. The venue the Eden Project which houses the worlds largest indoor rainforest, on the agenda climate change. Earlier prime Minister Borisjohnson welcomed leaders to first in person talks for nearly two years, with the focus firmly on the coronavirus pandemic. We need to make sure that the lessons from the pandemic ensured that we dont repeat some of the errors that we doubtlessly made. Im Kasia Madera In London also on the programme. The wait is over for football fans, the euro 2020
