What chance The End of lockdown in england onJune The 21st . And at last, footballs euros get underway, wales, England And Scotland all vying for glory. Hello and welcome to Bbc News. The G7 Summit between the leaders of the seven of the Worlds most advanced economies is getting under way in cornwall. My Colleague Ben Brown is there. He has been there all day, he will be there for the next few days, and we join will be there for the next few days, and wejoin him now over in cornwall. And we join him now over in cornwall yes, hello from cornwall, and the weather is brightening up in this Beautiful Cornish Coastline, just as the World-leaders'>World Leaders are right for this G7 Summit, we will have the Family Photo in about half an hour, and that will be followed by an initial welcomed all the leaders from the british minister, borisjohnson. So we are here at the Castle Resort here in St Ives in the South West of england, which is host to the G7 Summit of World-leaders'>World Leaders, and during the first Face To Face Summit since the first Face To Face Summit since the pandemic began, those leaders now gathered here are expected to agree to provide i now gathered here are expected to agree to providei billion doses now gathered here are expected to agree to provide i billion doses of covid vaccines for the poorer nations of the World. The leaders will also be focused on other issues, how to rebuild the Worlds-economy-post'>Worlds Economy Post pandemic, and also the challenge of fighting climate change. In a moment we will take a closer look at the pledges of donating vaccines to poorer nations. First, here is James Landale, who is looking at what we can expect from this G7 Summit. All summits begin with ceremony, the pageantry that underpins the politics, and the g7 is no exception. But for the World-leaders'>World Leaders arriving in cornwall, they know this gathering is about policy as much as presentation, and for once, they could make a difference. Were focusing here on a huge range of things that the g7 wants to look at. Were looking at the Post Pandemic World, were looking at what we can do to make sure that we dont have the World caught unprepared again, or the western World anyway, for a pandemic in The Way that we were. Above all, this is a chance for g7 countries to make the case for democracy. These leaders want to show that after the divisions of past years, they can cooperate to address the problems of the World and the needs of their voters. As well as tackling the shared security challenges from countries like Russia And China. I think standing up for the international order, being clear about the rules that apply, being clear about the values that apply, and being clear to both Russia And China leading members of the international community that they must live up to their response of it is, thats an important message to come out of this g7. The g7 is also an opportunity for real action on climate change. Campaigners here are hoping the only hot air will be in their inflatable caricatures. For this meeting is a milestone towards the Big Cop26 Climate Summit in the autumn, and new pledges to cut Carbon Emissions are expected. But will enough cash to be promised to help poorer countries adapt to climate change . Its a very special moment in history where we have to get investment of the right kind going to drive the recovery and the transformation we need of our economies for climate change. Its almost like at Bretton Woods after the second World war. If you put g7 and the g20 together, thats where we are. Its crucially important that we get strong decisions in the next few days. Then there is the task of repairing the World-economy'>World Economy when the pandemic recedes. The g7 leaders are notjust promising more vaccines to poorer countries, they are also discussing how to recover from the global downturn and make the World-economy'>World Economy more resilient against future threats. Diplomats here say that after the divisions of trump and covid, this summit is a chance for the Worlds democracies to show that multilateral cooperation can pay dividends. Officials talk of getting the gang back together again, but they know that what matters is not the reunion, but the results. James landale, Bbc News, in cornwall. So the question of vaccinating the World high on the agenda. World leaders expected, as we were hearing, to donate at leasti billion doses of vaccine to poorer nations. Aid groups have welcomed those promises but they also point out that many of the doses will not arrive until next year, and they say that more must be done right now to help inoculate at risk populations around the World. Sean dilley has this report. Britains Vaccination Roll Out has been one of the Success Stories of a pandemic that has taken so much from so many. By The End ofjuly, the government says it expects all Uk Adults will have been offered the first jab, and by The End of September The Uk will send its first 5 Million doses to poorer countries. The uk is really stepping up to the plate, but so is everybody here at the g7. Theres no point in us just vaccinating the uk. We need to vaccinate the World. Its a contribution that follows us president Joe Bidens Pledge to donate half A Billion no strings pfizer doses to 92 low and middle income countries in the african union. The two leaders hope other countries attending the G7 Summit in cornwall will also chip in to give a total ofi billion vaccines. But for some, progress is not fast enough. There is a staggering level of Vaccine Inequality around the World. This is illustrated by the fact that cornwall has administered more Vaccine Doses than 22 african countries combined. This is a disaster waiting to happen, so the donation of vaccines is good, but nowhere near enough. Others welcome any contribution, but a herculean effort is needed to be effective. The World-health-organization'>World Health Organization says that less than i of Afghanistans Population has been vaccinated. In south sudan, just 10,000 of the countrys 11 Million people in south sudan, just 10,000 of the countrys 11 Million people have had their first dose. And the who says that under 2 of the millions of Vaccine Doses administered globally have been in africa. Todays pledge is not the uks first division. First contribution. It has previously donated half £1 Billion to a scheme called covax, which distributes jabs to the Worlds poorest countries. The uk has also helped develop the oxford astrazeneca vaccine, which has been made available globally at cost price. The promise to deliver 100 Million doses, though, sends an important political message at a time when the government has been criticised for cutting the international aid budget. We are not going to be free of this virus or safe of this virus until the World really suppresses it. Therefore, if we can get everybody safe globally, it will make us safer as well. Therefore, i applaud the initiative from the uk. The Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi concedes that even if wealthy g7 countries collectively agree to distribute 1 Billion doses globally, there still will not be enough jabs for everyone. But the Prime Minister says the effort is an important step to vaccinate the World, and No One in the uk will miss out as a result. Sean dilley, Bbc News. We talk now to director of advocacy at unicef. Thanks for being with us. An initial offerfrom the richest nations, the g7, of1 Billion doses, thats pretty generous, isnt it . It is a generous commitment, and we really is a generous commitment, and we really welcome that and unicef is really really welcome that and unicef is really pleased to see that g7 leaders really pleased to see that g7 leaders are willing to make such an ambitious leaders are willing to make such an ambitious commitment. But what we want to ambitious commitment. But what we want to see ambitious commitment. But what we want to see is the scale of that accelerating, and the pace of it accelerating, and the pace of it accelerating full tips of our analysis accelerating full tips of our analysis shows that g7 countries cannot analysis shows that g7 countries cannot donate 1 Billion doses this year while cannot donate 1 Billion doses this year while still maintaining their successful domestic Roll Out and that is successful domestic Roll Out and that is what we would see C G7 countries that is what we would see C G7 countries committing to. So that is what we would see C G7 countries committing to. That is what we would see C G7 countries committing to. So you ust want it done countries committing to. So you ust want it done quicker, is i countries committing to. So you ust want it done quicker, is that i countries committing to. So you just want it done quicker, is that what i want it done quicker, is that what youre saying . Want it done quicker, is that what youre saying . Ultimately, the only route out of youre saying . Ultimately, the only route out of this youre saying . Ultimately, the only route out of this pandemic youre saying . Ultimately, the only route out of this pandemic is route out of this pandemic is through route out of this pandemic is through vaccines and ensuring that vaccines through vaccines and ensuring that vaccines get around the World. We need vaccines get around the World. We need to vaccines get around the World. We need to do vaccines get around the World. We need to do that as quickly as we possibly need to do that as quickly as we possibly can, so these vaccines that have been possibly can, so these vaccines that have been committed need to start moving have been committed need to start moving now, they need to arrive in countries moving now, they need to arrive in countries that need them and we need to see countries that need them and we need to see that countries that need them and we need to see that happening quickly. Otherwise we are at risk of new variants otherwise we are at risk of new variants developing, we are at risk of countries, like india and uganda, going of countries, like india and uganda, going track of countries, like india and uganda, going back into lockdown and we are risking going back into lockdown and we are risking their lives being lost. We have risking their lives being lost. We have enough vaccines to share with the World have enough vaccines to share with the World and we want the uk and the g7 the World and we want the uk and the 67 countries the World and we want the uk and the g7 countries together to make sure they make g7 countries together to make sure they make a really ambitious commitment and to scale up the pace and the commitment and to scale up the pace and the speed of the Vaccine Sharing with the and the speed of the Vaccine Sharing with the rest of the World. With the rest of the World. Because 1 Billion doses with the rest of the World. Because 1 Billion doses of with the rest of the World. Because 1 Billion doses of vaccine with the rest of the World. Because 1 Billion doses of vaccine sounds i 1 Billion doses of vaccine sounds like an awful lot, but Actually the World-health-organization'>World Health Organization is saying the rest of the World needs 11 Billion to give it 70 coverage. 50 Billion to give it 7096 coverage. So this billion to give it 70 coverage. So this is a huge undertaking. We are talking this is a huge undertaking. We are talking about vaccinating the whole World talking about vaccinating the whole World it talking about vaccinating the whole World it is talking about vaccinating the whole World. It is even incredible we have ot World. It is even incredible we have got to World. It is even incredible we have got to the World. It is even incredible we have got to the point that we have atready~ got to the point that we have already. We know that the facility that is already. We know that the facility that is helping get vaccines to low and middle income countries right now, and middle income countries right now. Irut and middle income countries right now, but one, is a must 200 Million short now, but one, is a must 200 Million short in now, but one, is a must 200 Million short in vaccines so they are not able short in vaccines so they are not able to short in vaccines so they are not able to get short in vaccines so they are not able to get vaccines to the people who need able to get vaccines to the people who need them the most. So one bitiion who need them the most. So One Billion is who need them the most. So One Billion is a who need them the most. So One Billion is a good figure but ultimately the fastest way out of this pandemic, the fastest way for us to this pandemic, the fastest way for us to protect people here and save lives and us to protect people here and save lives and protect people around the World lives and protect people around the World is lives and protect people around the World is to lives and protect people around the World is to Share Vaccines and to share World is to Share Vaccines and to Share Vaccines now. You World is to Share Vaccines and to Share Vaccines now. World is to Share Vaccines and to Share Vaccines now. You talk about Rotectin Share vaccines now. You talk about protecting people Share Vaccines now. You talk about protecting people here, Share Vaccines now. You talk about protecting people here, some Share Vaccines now. You talk about i protecting people here, some people watching might say, hang on, can we just wait until we have vaccinated everybody, for example here in the uk, before we start giving away Vaccine Doses . What do you say that argument . The Vaccine Doses . What do you say that Art Ument . ,. , argument . The rollout here in the uk has been argument . The rollout here in the uk has been hugely argument . The rollout here in the uk has been hugely successfuL Argument . The rollout here in the uk has been hugely successful in L Argument . The rollout here in the I Uk has been hugely successful in the uk has been hugely successful in the Uk Government has bought a huge stock Uk Government has bought a huge stock of Uk Government has bought a huge stock of vaccines. They can do both and they stock of vaccines. They can do both and they should do both. They can continue and they should do both. They can continue the really successful rottout continue the really successful Roll Out here in the uk with all of the groups Roll Out here in the uk with all of the groups and meet all of their targets the groups and meet all of their targets while at the same time start to share targets while at the same time start to Share Vaccines with the World. We want to to Share Vaccines with the World. We want to see to Share Vaccines with the World. We want to see these two things happening at the same time, its not an either happening at the same time, its not an either or happening at the same time, its not an either or. We also know through some an either or. We also know through some polling we have done that the Uk Public some polling we have done that the Uk Public support the government sharing Uk Public support the government sharing vaccines around the World because sharing vaccines around the World because i sharing vaccines around the World because i think they can see the connection because i think they can see the connection between sharing vaccines, ending connection between sharing vaccines, ending this connection between sharing vaccines, ending this pandemic and then as all being ending this pandemic and then as all being able ending this pandemic and then as all being able to get our lives back on track being able to get our lives back on track as being able to get our lives back on track as soon as possible and Staying Track as soon as possible and staying on track so we dont have new variants, or more lockdowns, we put an new variants, or more lockdowns, we put an end new variants, or more lockdowns, we put an end to new variants, or more lockdowns, we put an end to the pandemic for good. Thank put an end to the pandemic for good. Thank you put an end to the pandemic for good. Thank you very much indeed for your time. So of course, the pandemic is very high on the agenda here, in fact it dominates proceedings, the summit is just about to get under way. But climate change is also crucial. The uk is keen to show its green credentials through the g7 ahead of the bigger Cop26 Climate Summit In Glasgow which is later this year. One area in which the uk does lead to the World is offshore Wind Power, so what do the numbers look like and that was my here is our Reality Check corresponded, Chris Morris. Renewable energy sources generated more electricity for the uk in 2020 than fossil fuels. The first year that has happened. Much of the increase in renewable power came from offshore Wind Farms. In fact with thousands of miles of coastline and loads of windy seas, the uk already produces about 40 of europes offshore Wind Power. A lot of it is out here off the East Coast of it is out here off the East Coast of england. Hornsea one is the largest offshore Wind Farm in the World and the second one will be even bigger these areas cover hundreds of square miles. Further north, about 80 miles off the yorkshire coast, and even larger Wind Farm is under construction in the shallow waters of dogger bank. All the electricity offshore gets sent to the uk through a series of underwater cables, these turbines out at sea are considerably bigger than most of what you will see in a field On The Road. Some of the largest ones are about 260 metres high, nearly as tall as the shard stop they have Rotor Blades longer than a football pitch. So how much offshore Wind Power is the uk currently producing . Just over ten gigawatts of electricity a year. Thats roughly ten times more than a decade ago. Other countries produce a lot more onshore wind, but offshore, the uk leads the World. The government wants to quadruple production to a0 gigawatts by 2020 2030. That production to a0 gigawatts by 2020 2030. That should be more than enough to power every home in the country, quite an achievement. Houses only account for about a third of total electricity demand, there is also offices and factories to consider. And of Course Electricity isnt the only source of power in our homes. So offshore wind alone cant get the uk to its target, net zero Carbon Emissions, by mid century. But it is a big step forward and the government says it is getting cheaper. Last year it estimated that an offshore Wind Farm opening in 2025 would be able to generate one Megawatt Hour of electricity for £57, far cheaper than a few years ago. Less expensive than a few years ago. Less expensive than gas or nuclear. One problem with wind, it is not constant or predictable. That is why Looting Wind turbines, which dont need to be attached to the Sea Bed, are being deployed, with scotland taking a lead. As technology improves, they can operate much further out in the deep ocean, where the wind is much strongerfault of the deep ocean, where the wind is much stronger fault of the aim is that floating turbines will deliver one gigawatt of Uk Electricity by 2030. But there is another challenge. Where are turbines and components manufactured. Promises of a boom in jobs associated with offshore wind have been made before and have not really been fulfilled. When you look at the Supply Change for Wind Power, the uk is lagging well behind various countries. Last year the government announced a £106 million package to improve ports and infrastructure for offshore wind, promising investment in places like teesside and humberside. Medics argue it is not enough to meet the ambitious goals the government has set. So plenty of challenges ahead, and offshore wind clearly will not be the right solution everywhere in the World. But it is becoming a major player in Uk Energy for the foreseeable future. Chris morris reporting. Lets show you some pictures coming in to us now. Borisjohnson with his wife, carrie, here arejust now. Borisjohnson with his wife, carrie, here are just ahead of the Family Photo of g7 leaders. And we will be seeing all the leaders together in the next few minutes, probably in around ten, 15 minutes. And then there will be opening remarks from the british Prime Minister welcoming all of the other leaders to the summit here in cornwall. Thats it from me, back to the studio. Thank you. Injust the studio. Thank you. In just a few days, the parameter will decide whether to go ahead with the final stage of Relaxing Coronavirus restrictions in england. As new evidence suggests the Delta Variant is identified in india is spreading rapidly. In the past week, there have been nearly a0,000 new cases, 90 of which are due to the Delta Variant. Here is our Health Correspondent catherine da costa. Early data from England And Scotland suggests the Delta Variant first detected in india is not only more infectious, but those who catch it are twice as likely to need Hospital Treatment as those infected with alpha, which drove the winter surge. The figures show there have been more than a2,000 cases of the Delta Variant in the uk up to the 7th ofjune. 223 patients have been admitted to hospital in england, more than half were unvaccinated. A2 people have died. Of those, more than half were unvaccinated just over a quarter have received two doses. As more and more people are fully vaccinated, this proportion will continue to rise. The Vaccine Programme is moving forward rapidly and effectively, but it does need more time, particularly to immunise a large number of younger adults who are Onlyjust Being called forward for their first doses, as well as getting those older people through their second doses as well. Despite several outbreaks in areas like bolton and blackburn, Infection Rates remain low across the uk compared to earlier this year. The latest estimates from the Office For National Statistics suggest infections are rising in england, but its a best less certain in scotland, Northern Ireland and wales. Government scientific advisers say Keeping Infections down will help as we learn to live with covid. In terms of reducing the degree of transmission, one does need to think carefully about what levels of ventilation, how rigorous one is regarding compliance with face coverings and social distancing. All of these have been required throughout the pandemic, and when something is more transmissible, these become even more important. The Hospitality Sector is struggling even with current restrictions. Many feel any delay to unlocking would be devastating. But with 21stjune Nowjust a week and a half away, ministers are sounding cautious. The total number that the virus can go after is still high, which is why we have to be careful. These have been hard won battles against this virus. It hasnt gone away. It will attempt to survive by mutating, by infecting more people and attempting to escape. While the numbers of those vaccinated in hospitals is currently low, there is still the Risk Thata third wave driven by the delta low, there is still the risk that a third wave driven by the Delta Variant could leave the elderly and frail still vulnerable. Any decision ahead of Mondays Announcement is far from black and white. Katharine da costa, Bbc News. Euro 2016 was probably the high Water Mark of Wash Welsh Football history. They exceeded all expectation and lifted a nation. When you speak to the players, many say it was the best summer of their lives but now the focus has to be that first Game Tomorrow against switzerland at the Olympic Stadium behind me. Three points could be vitalfor making it behind me. Three points could be vital for making it out of the Group Stage and into the knockout rounds. Ive been watching them train all week, they look very happy and relaxed, the good news is that the likes of Gareth Bale, aaron ramsey, Joe Allen, all look fit and well, a relief im sure the of welsh fans back home. Then it is on to rome to Face Italy. We are going to leave natalie and the football there for just a moment, to return to the beach in cornwall, where borisjohnson and his Wife Carrie are greeting World-leaders'>World Leaders. There they are with the leaders. There they are with the leaders of germany and japan. The G7 Summit, of course, taking place today, and over the course of the next few days, with the leaders of the seven of the Worlds most advanced economies, getting under way in cornwall. And there we have president Joe Biden and the first lady, Joe Biden. We know that they met thejohnstons lady, Joe Biden. We know that they met the johnstons yesterday. If you were here with me yesterday you will have seen those pictures of the two couples together On The Beach. But this is the formal photo opportunity, the more formal part of the proceedings where the World-leaders'>World Leaders, and are formally greeted by borisjohnson and his wife. Worth remembering of course that this is the first Face To Face Summit for all these leaders since the pandemic began. Everything has been dOne On zoom and remotely, but here, the leaders from the seven wealthiest nations have all flown into cornwall for Face To face talks. And these are the formal photographs being taken now, which No Doubt will be beamed around the World and certainly back to the united states. We know thatJoe Biden was admiring the view yesterday, saying how gorgeous it was and how he didnt want to leave. We know the leaders are expected to agree to provide 1 Billion doses of covid vaccines for poorer nations. There we are, President Macron, the french president , and his wife, on their way for the formal photo opportunity. Lets cross back to my Colleague Ben Brown. Opportunity. Lets cross back to my Colleague Ben Brown. Yes, Emmanuel Macron, Colleague Ben Brown. Yes, Emmanuel Macron. The Colleague Ben Brown. Yes, Emmanuel Macron, the french Colleague Ben Brown. Yes, Emmanuel Macron, the french president , Colleague Ben Brown. Yes, Emmanuel Macron, the french president , and macron, the french president , and his wife, coming to meet Boris Johnson and his Wife Carrie, and the beautiful scenery hair. It is not sunny, but it is brighter than it was on the Cornish Coastline Looking pretty glorious. There are some pretty glorious. There are some pretty tough words from Emmanuel Macron for britain over the Post Brexit Situation in Northern Ireland, saying that the Northern Ireland, saying that the northern Ireland Protocol couldnt be reviewed or renegotiated. But still, it is all smiles now. He was saying that yesterday. A noted Elbow Bumps and smiles. And all the leaders now are coming in to meet the british Prime Minister, who is the host of this G7 Summit, because the uk holds the presidency of the g7 at the moment. So it is downing Streets Decision to hold this summit here in cornwall to show off the glories of the cornish coastline. We are going to have the Family Photo in just a couple of minutes time. Suitably socially distanced, No Doubt. A slightly dark, cloudy sky. Our deputy political editorjoins me. Its a big moment for borisjohnson, isnt it . He wants to show that in the post brexit World, this a Global Britain, which is a global diplomatic player. Britain, which is a Global Dilomatic la er. ,. , diplomatic player. Yes, i mean, the accusations diplomatic player. Yes, i mean, the accusations by diplomatic player. Yes, i mean, the accusations by the diplomatic player. Yes, i mean, the accusations by the critics diplomatic player. Yes, i mean, the accusations by the critics of diplomatic player. Yes, i mean, the accusations by the critics of Brexit L accusations by the critics of brexit as it is the uk turning its back on others and he was to show that it absolutely isnt the case, it is about new alliances. Of course, these to a big extent our old friends of course, no longer in the eu but yesterday we saw the very important relationship, the one with the united states and Joe Biden, and borisjohnson really talking a lot about the special relationship and how he thinks it is an indestructible relationship. But a lot of this is about World-leaders'>World Leaders gathering together for the first time Face To face, an event after the pandemic which has kept people apart and every single way, the leaders would say that Actually being Face To face and having talks about really important issues, whether that is about covid and the economic recovery, whether it is about climate change, but it works better Face To face. And when we look at all of these pictures of them together, lots of people very keen to look at the body language. That is much harder when you cant even shake hands. You will remember in previous occasions President Macron grabbing the hand of Donald Trump and shaking it fiercely and people seeing that as a sign of aggression, looking for who is going to stand next to who, who talks to who, who is left out on the edge, much harder when this is so carefully choreographed because of restrictions that they are still having to operate under. Stand restrictions that they are still having to operate under. And how much difference having to operate under. And how much difference do having to operate under. And how much difference do you having to operate under. And how much difference do you think having to operate under. And how much difference do you think it i much difference do you think it makes to the atmosphere, that it is Joe Biden rather than Donald Trump who is here . Because of course, Trump Wasnt a great fan of multilateral diplomacy in these sort of summits, he was all for america first. But now it isJoe Biden, and borisjohnson himself said thatJoe Biden is a breath of fresh air. I think it has definitely changed the dynamic of these kind of occasions. Again, i remember being in quebec at one of these summits and there was a massive bust up Betweenjustin Trudeau and Donald Trump, with Donald Trump effectively refusing to sign the signed a communique at The End of the summit, he almost walked out at one point, and that has been a difference i think with these summits with Donald Trump being around, there is definitely there was definitely more tension. So it is going to be different, that is notJoe Bidens style. He doesnt do things like that. Not that there will not be robust discussions, but certainly, things will be very different. There is an awful lot i think that the Uk Government would say they have in common withJoe Biden and his agenda particularly on climate change, thats going to be an interesting and obviously long term issue. Whereas although people talked about borisjohnson and Donald Trump being more similar, being friends and having the same approach to things, Actually, it was diplomatically far more tricky dealing with someone who was unpredictable like borisjohnson. Unpredictable like Boris Johnson. Like unpredictable like borisjohnson. Like Donald Trump than it is with someone likeJoe Biden. They know much more i think where they stand with him. Of course they have already had a lot of talk about the peace process, about the northern Ireland Protocol, about brexit, how Joe Biden firmly believes that those two things are the same, they are intertwined completely, and you cannot unravel one without the other and thats incredibly important. So of course there will be tensions, and as soon as Emmanuel Macron sits down with borisjohnson im sure that subject will be raised, and by some of the other leaders of eu countries. So these occasions always do have tensions but there is No Doubt that not having Donald Trump here does make a difference. As you say he wasnt a fan of these things, he thought they were pretty irrelevant, and some would still think that, emerging economies, growing economies, they are not here for the others are invited along, we know that india are remotely attending the summit, countries like South Korea and South Africa and australia will be joining, but some will say, look, this isjust A Group of nation, there are other more powerful nations who are not here. We were just seeing the Family Photograph of the leaders together, standing together, suitably socially distant. They are On The Beach and its a magnificent surrounding for this G7 Summit and i think part of downing Streets Concept in having it here was just to show off some of the beauty of the English Coastline and perhaps to give a little boost to british tourism as well. The Leaders Bear have had theirFamily Photo and, vicky, some people say, what is the g7 . It is a slightly curious group, isnt it . You talk about the leading democracies of the World-but-india'>World But India Actually isnt part of it, although india is going to be represented here and the Prime Minister will be appearing by zoom. China is not in it. What exactly is it . It has got all of these problems to try and solve with the World but it is just seven nations at The End. Yes, that is the point. You do have g20. There was a time when it was gs, g20. There was a time when it was g8, when russia was involved but thenit g8, when russia was involved but then it was deemed that they should not be allowed to join because of various issues there. They are self selecting. The point is, it is slightly wider, isnt it . You saw Ursula Von Der Leyen as representative of the european union. And of a country such as australia was being invited. That is the criticism as how can you solve the criticism as how can you solve the problems notjust on your input as one group of nations. They are going to be talking about democracy, western values, and in some ways trying to get me beyond the front foot, trying to make that case about liberal democracies and make sure that that is what is coming over to people. The problem is, when you look at issues like climate change, the World-economy'>World Economy, all sorts of things, they cant do that on their own even if they are seven of the most powerful nations in the World. They are going to have to engage and work with countries like china. We know again, and a Donald Trump, the tensions that they were between America And China when it came to trade, for example. However, all of thoseissues trade, for example. However, all of those issues do have to be resolved together. You can imagine another country looking on on this, who is not invited and will say, this is just A Group who have decided that they are the most powerful in the World and Actually maybe they are not any more. There are lots of other younger nations, emerging economies are growing that have a lot to offer, they would say that they should be included. It is not what its like at the moment in this group of nations has gathered together for decades, and group of nations has gathered togetherfor decades, and im sure they will continue to do so but you can see the changing alliances, the changing patterns. Brexit of course being one of them. Earlier, Emmanuel Macron showed a picture of him with angela merkel, this is her last international summit and others of the new nation saying, here we are, we are all together, it might be a different eu but they are all still there talking to Each Other about there talking to Each Other about theissues there talking to Each Other about the issues that are going to be resolved. I think it is going to be an interesting dynamic over the next couple of days. For an interesting dynamic over the next coople of Days Couple of days. For the moment, thank you couple of days. For the moment, thank you very couple of days. For the moment, thank you very much couple of days. For the moment, thank you very much indeed. I couple of days. For the moment, thank you very much indeed. A i couple of days. For the moment, i thank you very much indeed. A little bit earlier on, i spoke to the former uk Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and i asked him about the significance of World-leaders'>World Leaders meeting in person, Face To face for the first time since the pandemic began. Summits tend to be. Some summits dont matter but this really matters. It matters because of covid 19 but also for reasons of climate as well. And how do you see this agenda are . There is almost too much in a sense for the leaders to discuss and decide in three days but it is trying to rescue the World from the pandemic, it is trying to vaccinate the World, is trying to sort out the Post Pandemic economy and climate change and so much more as well. It and climate change and so much more as well. And climate change and so much more as well. ,. ,. ,. , as well. It is a huge agenda, obviously as well. It is a huge agenda, obviously. There as well. It is a huge agenda, obviously. There is as well. It is a huge agenda, obviously. There is months i as well. It is a huge agenda, l obviously. There is months of preparation that has gone into it. The main thing is very clear. To get a programme in place to vaccinate at least the most vulnerable in the World by The End of this year and the whole of the World by The End of 2022. To make sure that we put in place better systems of genomic surveillance so that we are picking up surveillance so that we are picking up the new variants as they emerge. This is the single risk that the holder of the World has come as the virus continues to mutate. And then, of course, you have got the whole issueis of course, you have got the whole issue is to do with the economic recovery and climate change. I think the Big Focus will be making sure as much vaccine flows to the developing World is possible this year, and at least if you are vaccinating the Health Care workers in the poorest parts of the World, the urban populations, the most vulnerable, that gives us the best chance to keep the virus under control. That was Tony Istair keep the virus under control. That was Tony Blair talking to me a little earlier on. Lets talk now to the bbc s diplomatic correspondent who is also here in cornwall for this G7 Summit. James, we havejust seen that Family Photo On The Beach at capiz bay. Suggestive surroundings of the World-leaders'>World Leaders and a packed agenda for the World-leaders'>World Leaders are dozing to Tony Blair. This is all the ceremony and the pageantry of the stuff that we we see at these events. The question of course is what they Actually going to decide when they sit down and the discussions about whether it is climate change, the state of the World-economy'>World Economy, the vaccines . That is the stuff that is going to matter. Clearly, the optics are important. As it is called in the jargon, the presentation. On a basic level, they want to have images of them getting on together and chatting, so they can send a message to the World that multilateral cooperation is back after the divisive unilateralism of the beginning of the pandemic, when every country basically did its own thing. The divisive period of Donald Trump, when he decided that he thought politics should be all about transactional relations between One Nation to another and not getting together. These images that we are seeing today do matter, but equally, the substance is important as well. And we were seeing the Family Photos, socially distanced of course, elbow bumping and so on. This is Face To face diplomacy, that is back for the first time amongst a leader since the pandemic began. They could have done this on zoom, some would say that the Carbon Footprint of this is too big. How important is it for these leaders to be Face To face the same room for a number of days . It is be Face To face the same room for a number of days . Number of days . It is incredibly important number of days . It is incredibly important. That number of days . It is incredibly important. That is number of days . It is incredibly important. That is why number of days . It is incredibly important. That is why this i number of days . It is incredibly i important. That is why this works. Thats why this particular summit was set up in the first place, so that the leaders could be talking to Each Other One On one. This thing that we talk the g7. There is no sort of Organisational Secretariats behind it. When we go into these meetings, but not when they go into the meetings, they are largely by themselves. It is about the Face To face conversations. They dont get enough of that. Even in pre covid 19 times, and that is what makes the difference. Its a fact that they can communicate efficiently and do Side Deals and have that moment, when they can share concerns. When they can voice disagreements but do it with some degree of privacy. That has huge value when it comes to, when they move to the next stage of the. These rare moments when they can come together and the fact that they havent done it for two years, means it does make a difference. I havent done it for two years, means it does make a difference. It does make a difference. I suppose somethin it does make a difference. I suppose Something Else it does make a difference. I suppose Something Else that it does make a difference. I suppose Something Else that makes it does make a difference. I suppose Something Else that makes a Something Else that makes a difference, you could say, is that Donald Trump is not here. He was not the biggest fan in the World of multilateral diplomacy and this is multilateral diplomacy and this is multilateral diplomacy and Joe Biden very much believes in it. That must give a boost in a sense to this summits . Ads, give a boost in a sense to this summits . Give a boost in a sense to this summits . ,. , summits . A huge difference. Just the fact of Mr Biden and the fact that i fact of Mr Biden and the fact that Mr Trump is fact of Mr Biden and the fact that mrtrump is not fact of Mr Biden and the fact that Mr Trump is not here makes a huge difference. He did not believe in these events. He found them boring. There were occasions that i can remember seeing images of him resting his eyes gently during some meetings because he found them boring. He preferred to deal one leader to another. That was his style. It is notJoe Bidens style. That said, there is an awful lot of imagery here. I dont know if you have seen it yourself but i have just seen a tweet by President Macron of france and it is a picture of him with his colleagues from germany, from italy, the two representatives of the European Commission and the European Council, they are all sitting together having a drink On The Beachfront and he says, as always, when union, when determination to act, the same enthusiasm. The g7 can begin. The president of france is telling Mr Johnson that now that the europeans are here, the g7 can begin. There is always a little bit of points being made in some of the symbolism. find made in some of the symbolism. And faultless translation by The Way, james. Thank you very much indeed. I think what has gone parts of society. I think what has gone wrong with this pandemic or what gone wrong with this pandemic or what risks gone wrong with this pandemic or what risks to be a lasting scar is that i what risks to be a lasting scar is that i think what risks to be a lasting scar is that i think the inequalities may be entrenched and we need to make sure that as entrenched and we need to make sure that as we entrenched and we need to make sure that as we recover, we level up across that as we recover, we level up across our that as we recover, we level up across our societies and we build back across our societies and we build back better. He is also saying that we need to build back greener. We need to build back more fairly as well and we need to level up and not to repeat, he said, the mistakes of the last financial crisis of 2008, when he said the recovery was not equally shaped around britain, and indeed the World. And as we recover, he said, we need to level up and build back better. James langdale, our diplomatic correspondent was listening to that. And he is the host. He is the president of this g7, and as such he is the host. He has invited everybody here to cornwall. I suppose it is a showpiece in a Way Notjust for Borisjohnson Showpiece in a Way Notjust for Boris Johnson before showpiece in a Way Notjust for borisjohnson before british diplomacy. Yes, if you think about it. This is the diplomacy. Yes, if you think about it, this is the first diplomacy. Yes, if you think about it, this is the first big diplomacy. Yes, if you think about it, this is the first big diplomatic. It, this is the first big diplomatic Leadership Moment after the uk has left the european union, therefore there is a lot at stake. Diplomats want to make sure that this goes well. It is a test. Its a test of the government was not Global Britain policy. The idea that somehow the uk can be a convenor, a shaper of western democracies, helping countries collaborate so that they can better tackle the global solutions. What was really interesting and what the Prime Ministerjust said was that it is particularly the lesson that needs to be learned from 2008. He said that after 2008 the recovery was not equal and it was that inequality that led many people to think that the global economy was not helping them. It was that sentiment that drove support for people like Donald Trump, it drove support for other sort of strong men leaders, they were largely men, who were responding to the concern in their electorates, who felt that this global thing, electorates, who felt that this globalthing, globalisation electorates, who felt that this global thing, globalisation and elites in brussels and elsewhere, are not Actually addressing peoples concerns. They saw the recovery from the 2008 crash but the bankers were doing well, other people were losing theirjobs. I think that is what they are trying to solve a similar problem here. As the World recovers from the pandemic, how do we stop that inequality . The problem that we have got is that there is a inequality now about how the pandemic is being handled and as we heard all throughout today from people to the announcement to of the new vaccines that are going to be distributed to countries. People are saying it is not fast enough simply because of that Vaccine Inequality around the World. That is A Problem that they have to fix first before they move on fixing the economy and making its equal. Irate they move on fixing the economy and making its equal. Making its equal. We were ust seeinu a making its equal. We were ust seeing a few i making its equal. We were ust seeing a few minutes i making its equal. We were ust seeing a few minutes ago, h making its equal. They believe in open societies, they believe in connections between their societies but it does not mean they agree on everything. They have differences over how to deal with the challenges of china. The americans want to be more robust with beijing but the europeans are more cautious. There are different opinions over the response to the pandemic. There are some countries that think that all of the Intellectual Property about how to make these. So that you allow the developing countries to start developing their own vaccines instead of having to be given them by someone else. The germans are very resistant to that because they think that it is setting a wrong precedent. There are concerns in europe and elsewhere over the unilateral decision by the americans to withdraw their forces from afghanistan. There are going to be disagreements in these countries. I think the point that they are trying to get you here is to say that some of the differences are smaller than the potential gains of cooperating on a bigger scale to deal with the big issues such as the pandemic and climate change and the global economy and that is the mental leap that these leaders have to achieve. Boris johnson speaking a few minutes back better together. Boris johnson speaking a few minutes ago back better together. Boris johnson speaking a few minutes ago to speaking a few minutes ago to welcome all the other leaders here this G7 Summit, which is now under he was saying it is a meeting that needs to happen, many observers are saying it is one of the most important G7 Summits in history, because it is notjust about trying to vaccinate the World, trying to rescue the World from the pandemic, it is also focusing on the Post Pandemic economic recovery and indeed fighting climate change. Its a really huge gender that these leaders have over the next three days. Our diplomatic correspondent James Landale looks at what we can expect from this summit. Live up to their responsibilities. But will enough cash to he promised to help poorer countries adapt to climate change . Those leaders are talking right now, and they are expected to donate at least 1 and they are expected to donate at leasti billion doses of vaccine to poorer countries in the next year. Aid groups have welcomed those promises, but they also point out that many of the doses will not Actually arrive until next year, they say more needs to be done right now to help inoculate people around the World who are at risk. Sean dilley reports. The two leaders hope other countries attending the G7 Summit in cornwall will also chip in to give a total of1 Billion vaccines. The World-health-organization'>World Health Organization says that less than 1 of Afghanistans Population has been vaccinated. In south sudan, just 10,000 of the countrys 11 Million people have had their first dose. And the who says that under 2 of the millions of Vaccine Doses administered globally have been in africa. Todays pledge is not the uks first contribution. It has previously donated half A Billion pounds to a scheme called covax, which distributes jabs to the Worlds poorest countries. Im pleased to say we can talk to the former swedish minister, co chair of the European Council on foreign relations. And World-health-organization'>World Health Organization special envoy on preparedness for future pandemic. Thanks for being with us. Lets talk about these promises on vaccines first of all. There are just a few days now before the Prime Minister decides whether to go ahead with the final stage of Relaxing Coronavirus restrictions in england. As new evidence suggests the Delta Variant, but identified in india, spreading rapidly. In the past week there have been nearly 30,000 new cases, 90 of which are due to the Delta Variant. Here is our Health Correspondent katharine da costa. Early data from England And Scotland suggests the Delta Variant first detected in india is not only more infectious, but those who catch it are twice as likely to need Hospital Treatment as those infected with alpha, which drove the winter surge. The figures show there have been more than 42,000 cases of the Delta Variant in the uk up to the 7th ofjune. 223 patients have been admitted to hospital in england, more than half were unvaccinated. 42 people have died. Of those, more than half were unvaccinated and just over a quarter have received two doses. While the numbers of those vaccinated in hospitals is currently low, there is still the risk that a third wave driven by the Delta Variant could leave the elderly and frail still vulnerable. Any decision ahead of Mondays Announcement is far from black and white. Katharine da costa, Bbc News. Now, a year later than planned, the European Football championships finally get under this evening. 2a countries will compete in 11 cities across the continent, thousands of fans will be admitted to every game. In rome this evening it is italy against turkey, and in the next coming days and three of the Home Nations will be in action, wales, England And Scotland. Adam wiles has the details. Amongst the Home Nations, there are those who can hardly wait, those whove had to wait far too long and those carrying, as always, the weight of expectation. The tournament that kept Football Waiting is finally here. For scotland, arriving at their Training Base in darlington this week, the significance of their presence is not lost on anyone, their first major tournament this century evoking memories of campaigns past igniting hopes for the future. Weve got a great group here. Weve been unbeaten for a few games now, so i think well go to the tournament in high spirits and wanting to progress. The World-cup'>World Cup back in 1998 was the last time scotlands men made one of footballs big stages. Since then, more than two decades of disappointment. They begin against Czech Republic on monday. If scotlands recent past is there to be overcome, for wales, its there to be recreated. What a turn, what a goal their adventures of the last euros was one of welsh footballs greatest summers, carrying on all The Way to the semifinals. 2021s group of players know theres a lot to live up to. I have nothing but good memories of that tournament. Im just excited to go at it again. Theres that expectation that weve built for ourselves this time that were expected to get some results. Wales, for now, are based out in baku preparing for Tomorrows Opener against switzerland, meaning most of their support can only watch from afar. I know everyone would like to be out here and its disappointing, but theyll all be cheering from back home. Im sure the ones that come will give us a great cheer. Back home, england are readying themselves with an optimism befitting their potential. Now s probably the best Chance Weve ever had to achieve something so big in a tournament. We definitely have a good enough team to go all The Way in this tournament. Crowd its coming home, | its coming home, its coming a European Championship played at least in part on home shores will stir some powerful memories of 25 years ago. Euro 96 England And Scotland famously met then. Theyll do so again next week. England back then fell at the final hurdle, gareth southgate, now england manager, hoping to bring Football Home at last. Wales are in group a along with italy, switzerland and turkey. England begin against croatia, with Scotland And Czech republic also in group d. The tournament is being played across europe, 11 host cities, culminating in a wembley final. A year later than planned, the wait, then, almost over. Adam wild, Bbc News. As you might expect, weve got correspondence travelling with all the Home Nations. Natalie pirks is at englands training camp, Jane Dougal with the Scotland Team, but first in baku in azerbaijan where wales begin their campaign tomorrow, Howell Griffith sent us this update. Euro 2016 was probably the high Water Mark of welsh football history, that he went to france, exceeded expectation and lifted a nation. When you speak to the players, many say it was the best summer of their lives, but now their focus has to be on that first Game Tomorrow against switzerland in the Olympic Stadium behind me. Three points there could be vital for making it out of the Group Stage and into the knockout rounds. Been watching them train away, they look very happy and relaxed, and the good news is that the likes of Gareth Bale, aaron ramsey, Joe Allen, all look fit and well thought of a relief im sure the of welsh bands back on. Yesterday the sfa made it clear that the squad would continue to, as they put it, take a stand against racism, that they would be not they would not be taking a knee. Scotland havent knelt throughout their warm up matches but because it is such a prevalent issue, the captain felt that he had to reiterate that they had spoken together as A Group and that taking a stand was the best way for them to show their solidarity. We will see the cornish coastline in its full glory. You mightjust be able to see hms over my shoulder there. That is one of the navy warships here to protect the leaders at the summit. There are also a lot of patrol vessels. There is about 6500 police as well. A massive operation, as you would expect. It is a bit of a curse to some of the people who live here in this part of cornwall but it is also a huge opportunity, in the hope that it will really put this bit of cornwall on the Tourist Map is if it isnt already. Lets talk now to the mayor of St Ives. Thanks to being with us. Its such a beautiful part of the World, isnt it . Obviously, people love cornwall, especially at the moment during the pandemic, lots of people are coming and lots of people from the uk have been here to visit but do you think this will be a global advert for this part of cornwall . And i think you touched on it slightly. St ives is already a massive tourist destination. We have a lot of European Visitors and a lot of Uk Visitors every year. I suppose folsom dives, we are not looking for a boost in our Tourism Economy for St Ives. It shows a part of the uk that may people dont know about and showing how beautiful it is. Possibly for america, they are not aware that we have such stunning coastline in a country that is always known for bad weather. Maybe ou dont always known for bad weather. The businesses have really struggled as much as anyone if not more of the pandemic year. Getting it back running is very important for St Ives. But we want to send a message that we are not just about the tourists. We want to send a message that we are notjust about the tourists. We have got a lot of Heritage Round here. But the figures from the Office For National Statistics, show that unlike other advanced countries, the economy here, hasnt been restored to pre pandemic levels. Heres our economics correspondent, andy verity. A Caravan Park in newquay, one of many long Suffering Hospitality businesses which finally caught a break in april. As families got away for easter, activity in its sector of the economy shot up by 69 . Going on Holiday Wasnt the only thing thousands have been waiting patiently to do. This Jewellery Chain had to shut 72 stores for six months, significantly damaging its trade. But since nonessential retail reopened on the 12th of april, sales of wedding rings have doubled. Ive started to see a lot more engagements. So, for us particularly, i think because of the nature of the product, theres been a lot of missed celebrations and theres a sense of wanting to treat people and buy something special that will last. I think our store managers are describing it as christmas before the internet. It has been exceptionally busy, and we have been delighted with how trade has bounced back. Personal services like hairdressing Saw Business Jump by 64 , as long overdue hair cuts were once again legal. And pubs and cafes saw Business Rise by 39 , as they were allowed to serve customers outside. However, output in construction slowed down after rapid growth in march, and the Production Sector of the economy such as Oil And Manufacturing shrank in april. For now, the economy is still sustaining damage, having performed worse over the pandemic than any of the 20 most developed economies in the World. I think the numbers clearly show that there is recovery, but i think its a story of two sides. I think its a recovery thats being driven by parts of the economy that have been insulated by the worst impacts of the pandemic. But others, those that have lost theirjobs, low pay, sme, are feeling a lot of pain. And so, i think as easing of some of the protections put in place, as those are rolled back in the autumn, a lot of people will be really hit. While theres now as much activity going on as there was last october before the renewed lockdowns, the economy remains 3. 7 below its pre pandemic level. The recovery should continue as hoped if consumers keep spending what they saved while the shops were shut. Andy verity, Bbc News. Researchers at the university of sheffield say the number of high profile athletes who have developed the disease is not a coincidence. The scientists say nobody should stop exercising as a result of the study, but they hope the findings could lead to ways of screening people who may be at higher risk. The research was headed by Professor Dame Pam shaw, who is the director of the Neuroscience Institute at the university of sheffield. Asa as a clinician doing clinics for patients with mnd, i have always suspected that being a fit, athletic sort of Person Is a Risk Factor but the studies that have been done until now in the medical literature have been controversial, so some studies have shown the link and other studies have not confirmed that and i think the step forward with the research that we have just published is that it confirms there is a causal link between being the sort of person that does strenuous, regular physical activity, and the development of mnd but not in everyone. Only in genetically susceptible individuals. We have identified the Bodys Stress Response to acute physical activity and the suspicion is that patients susceptible to mnd do not mount the full physiological stress response, so we need to dig down into those complex pathways to pull out precisely be genetic bricks factors. Risk factors. We did take one patients of mnd who have the commonest genetic cause of the disease, it is caused by a mutation in a gene, and 10 of mnd patients will have that change. We looked carefully at the history of physical exercise in those patients that have the sea nine change and what we found is if you have that genetic Risk Factor and you have high levels of physical activity as part of your lifestyle, then you develop the mnd at a younger age, compared to those who do not have high levels of physical activity. Noel conway the assisted dying campaigner who had Motor Neurone Disease has passed away. The 71 year old was diagnosed with mnd in 2014. Towards The End of his life he was reliant on a ventilator to help him breath. Mr conway worked with the Charity Dignity in dying, campaigning to get the law on assisted suicide changed. In a statement written before his death, he said he had made a conscious and deliberate effort to end his life, having decided to stop using his ventilator. You are watching Bbc News. A british woman attacked by a crocodile in mexico, but Whos Life was saved by her sister, who fought off the reptile, is now out of a medically induced coma. The 28 year old twins were swimming when melissa laurie, was dragged underwater by the crocodile. Will grant reports. The manialtepec lagoon is a place of unspoiled natural beauty, its mangroves teeming with mexicos diverse wildlife and birds. For twin sisters from Berkshire Georgia and melissa laurie, though, it will forever be the stuff of nightmares. As their Tour Group took a swim in these waters, melissa was attacked three times by a crocodile, which punctured her Stomach And Leg and broke her wrist. In a moment of incredible bravery, georgia dived to her Sisters Aid and hit the animal repeatedly to force it off. Boatman and Bird Watcher Lalo escamilla happened to be passing with his own tour when he heard the commotion. Translation | waded i through the undergrowth, clearing a path with the oar. I made it over to the mangrove, where i found a woman who was down and another one who was holding her arm and holding her head up. I asked, what happened . They said, crocodile, crocodile. In hospital, melissa developed sepsis and was placed in a medically induced coma, from which she has thankfullyjust emerged. In a Voice Message shared with the bbc, georgia gave an update on her twin s condition. Just want to let you know that i saw mel earlier and shes doing really much better. Shes doing really good. They took the tube out of her. Shes been breathing on her own very well. She Cant Talk because of the soreness in her throat from the tube. They said that when they were explaining the procedure to her before they did it, she understood and comprehended everything. She recognised me, knew who i was, seemed happy to see me. Yeah, shes doing much better. The man who sold the laurie sisters the tour insisted it was safe to swim in the lagoon, even though it is hatching season and female crocs are protecting their young. It seems melissa is now On The Road to recovery. But that shes even alive to tell the story of what happened here is extraordinary and thanks in no small part to the quick thinking and sheer bravery of her twin sister. Will grant, Bbc News, oaxaca. It looks as though the cloud will be the Lead Story to the weather. You can see how extensive it is across the country, although the best of the country, although the best of the sunshine is certainly into the South East. Thick cloud further north, that is a weak Weather Front. That will continue to sink its way steadily south through night tonight. We will continue to see variable amounts of cloud and temperatures a little bit more comfortable with overnight lows of nine to 1a degrees. Tomorrow, High Pressure is set to build once again and we will be heading for a dry, settled and sunny and increasingly hot weekend of weather. Plenty of sunshine across the country. Saturday afternoon, temperatures are likely to be 2a degrees as a high. It will get warmer still and said they were temperatures into the high 20s, potentially peaking at 30 degrees in the South East on monday. This is Bbc News, im Rebecca Jones. The headlines. The leaders are expected to donate at least1 Billion doses of vaccines to the Worlds poorer countries. Aid groups have welcomed that promise but they also point out many of the doses will not Actually arrive until next year, and they say more has to be done now to help inoculate at risk populations around the World. Sean dilley reports. The two leaders hope other countries attending the G7 Summit in cornwall will also chip in to give a total of1 Billion vaccines. Hundreds of millions stop Todays Pledge is not the uks first contribution. It has previously donated half A Billion pounds to a scheme called covax, which distributes jabs to the Worlds poorest countries. The uk has also helped develop the oxford astrazeneca vaccine, which has been made available globally at cost price. The promise to deliver 100 Million doses, though, sends an important political message at a time when the government has been criticised for cutting the international aid budget. We are not going to be free of this virus or safe from this virus until the World is really suppressesd. Therefore, if we can get everybody safe globally, it will make us safer as well. So i completely applaud the initiative from the uk. The Vaccines Minister, Nadhim Zahawi, concedes that even if wealthy g7 countries collectively agree to distribute One Billion doses globally, there still will not be enough jabs for everyone. But the Prime Minister says the effort is an important step to vaccinate the World, and No One in the uk will miss out as a result. Sean dilley, Bbc News. Soul, vaccinating the World really is one of the priorities for this G7 Summit. One of the other issues they will be talking about is a global education, which has been so badly hit by the pandemic. Lets speak to the chief Advocacy Officer for girlss education. Thanks forjoining us. The uk very much wants to highlight its green credentials here at the g7. In the run up to the much bigger cop26 climate summit, which is in glasgow later this year. One area in which the uk does lead to the World is offshore Wind Power. So what do the numbers on that look like . Is Dish Mac it is Chris Morris. Renewable energy sources generated more electricity for the uk in 2020 than fossil fuel is dead. The year that has happened. Much of the increase in renewable power came from offshore Wind Farms. In fact with thousands of miles of coastline and windy seas, the uk already produces about 40 of europes offshore Wind Power. A lot of it is out here off the East Coast of england. This is currently the largest offshore Wind Farm in the World. The second one due for completion next year will be even bigger. These areas cover hundreds of square miles. Further north, about 80 miles of the yorkshire coast, and even larger Wind Farm is under construction in the shallow waters of dog bank. All the electricity offshore gets sent back to the uk through a series of underwater cables and these turbines out at sea are considerably bigger than most of what you will see in a field down the road. Some of the largest ones are about 260 metres high, nearly as tall as the shard in london and they have Rotor Blades longer than a football pitch. So how much offshore Wind Power does the uk currently produce . Just over ten gigawatts of electricity a year as you see that is roughly ten times more than a decade ago. Other countries produce a lot more onshore wind, but offshore the uk leads the World. The government wants to quadruple production 40 gigawatts by 2030. That should be more than enough to power every home in the country, quite an achievement. But houses only account for about a third of total electricity demand. There are also offices and factories to consider and of Course Electricity isnt the only source of power in our homes. So offshore wind alone cant get the uk to its target of net zero Carbon Emissions by mid century. But one problem with wind as it is not constant or predictable. That is why floating Wind Turbines which dont need to be attached to the Sea Bed are being deployed, with scotland taking a lead. As technology improves, they can operate much further out in the deep ocean, where the wind is much stronger. The aim is that floating turbines will deliver one gigawatt of Uk Electricity by 2030. But there is another challenge. Where are turbines and components manufactured was my promises of a millionjobs associated with offshore wind have been made before but not really been fulfilled. When you look at supply chains for Wind Power, the uk is lagging well behind Denmark Or Germany orfurther lagging well behind Denmark Or Germany or further afield, china and the uae. Last year the government announced a £160 million package to improve ports and infrastructure for offshore wind, promising investment in places like teesside and humberside. But critics argue it is not enough to meet the ambitious goals the government has set. So plenty of challenges ahead and offshore wind clearly will not be the right solution everywhere in the World. But it is becoming a major player in Uk Energy for the foreseeable future. But there is Chris Morris reporting. There are just a few days now before the Per Minister decides whether to go ahead with the final stage of Relaxing Coronavirus restrictions in england, as new evidence suggests the Delta Variant, but identified in india, is spreading rapidly. In the past week, there have been nearly 30,000 new cases, 90 of which are due to the Delta Variant. We can speak now to Professor Ravi Gupta from the university of cambridge. He advises the government is a member of the new and emerging respiratory virus threats advisory group, but he is speaking to us today in a personal capacity. Good afternoon, we are grateful for your capacity. Good afternoon, we are gratefulfor your time. Capacity. Good afternoon, we are gratefulforyourtime. I capacity. Good afternoon, we are gratefulfor your time. I wonder what your thoughts are on how well the vaccine is working against new variants, given that i now understand that the Delta Variant accounts for 90 of cases . Understand that the Delta Variant accounts for 9096 of cases . Thank you very much accounts for 9096 of cases . Thank you very much of accounts for 9096 of cases . Thank you very much. Of course, accounts for 9096 of cases . Thank you very much. Of course, the accounts for 9096 of cases . Thank you very much. Of course, the vaccine very much. Of course, the Vaccine Programme has been very successful, we are using a combination of different vaccines, and we have reached high levels of coverage, so we are doing very, very well. We are not quite there yet and the reason this is important is because this new variant does have different characteristics, it is not like the old paris that we were dealing with, this virus is adapted not only to transmitting between us but also to infect people even when they have a bit of immunity, that is either due to be infected previously with the virus, or due to vaccination. So it is able to infect some people who have already been vaccinated. Of course, you do not become as ill and you may generally only have mild symptoms but of the virus can infect despite vaccination, it means it can spread as well. 1 1 despite vaccination, it means it can spread as well despite vaccination, it means it can spread as well. 14 people have died who have had spread as well. 14 people have died who have had both spread as well. 14 people have died who have had both jabs, spread as well. 14 people have died who have had both jabs, how spread as well. 14 people have died who have had both jabs, how much| spread as well. 14 people have died i who have had both jabs, how much is that a cause of concern . That a cause of concern . Well, one would predict that a cause of concern . Well, one would predict of that a cause of concern . Well, one would predict of course that a cause of concern . Well, one would predict of course that that a cause of concern . Well, one would predict of course that this i would predict of course that this might happen, because not everybody responds equally to vaccinations. We know that the elderly for example may not have such strong responses that last as long as youre younger people and we still dont know how long the responses altered secondly there are individuals who for whatever reasons are not responding so well, they may have certain drug treatments or certain cancers and of course they may be still vulnerable despite being vaccinated. This is why controlling the Delta Variant is so critical in the uk, because there are quite significant numbers of people who are still vulnerable to getting severe disease and dying. So what is your view on the scrapping of the final restrictions later this month . ~. ,. , month . Well, i dealt with a few concerns a month . Well, i dealt with a few concerns a Couple Month . Well, i dealt with a few concerns a couple of month . Well, i dealt with a few concerns a couple of Weeks Month . Well, i dealt with a few concerns a couple of weeks ago| month . Well, i dealt with a few concerns a couple of weeks ago about the date that had been set in stone, i think we are nearly there and i think the point is that if we allow ourselves to use the excellent surveillance and the scientific endeavour to its full extent, we can Actually end up in the situation where we open society fully for good, ratherthan where we open society fully for good, rather than opening prematurely and then having to look down certain aspects or curtail liberties later on, which would be much more difficult for the public to handle, i think, much more difficult for the public to handle, ithink, psychologically as well as economically. So i think as well as economically. So i think a bit of caution will give us greater rewards. So a bit of caution will give us greater rewards. A bit of caution will give us creater rewards. ,. , greater rewards. So at the moment the government greater rewards. So at the moment the government is greater rewards. So at the moment the government is considering the government is considering whether to fully ease restrictions on during the 21st. Is there a danger that if we follow perhaps the advice that you are talking about, that we get to June The 21st and scientists say, perhaps we need a bit more caution . And it gets thrown forward again and again and again, there is never going to be right time. J there is never going to be right time. , ~ there is never going to be right time. , ~. , , time. I dont think thats true, i think there time. I dont think thats true, i think there will time. I dont think thats true, i think there will come time. I dont think thats true, i think there will come a time when we know more about where the virus is going. As you just said there are 14 deaths despite two doses of the vaccine. We need to know how that pans out. Also, whilst we are stepping up vaccination to cover more people, this should bring the virus under better control. But if we open up completely, we might pitch vaccines against this virus, and might at my expense of the prius is that it is not something to underestimate. Prius is that it is not something to underestimate. What about if some restrictions were underestimate. What about if some restrictions were kept underestimate. What about if some restrictions were kept in underestimate. What about if some restrictions were kept in place, underestimate. But by maintaining some sort of protective measures, we can keep in our minds that we are still not quite out of the woods yet. Professor ravi gupta, thanks so much for your time and for talking to us on Bbc News. And in the last half an hour, the uk has reported 8125 new covid 19 cases on friday. As you say, all eyes will be on rome for that Opening Match between italy and turkey. This is really where england will certainly fancy their chances of producing something really special. In many ways, this is still the tournament that the organisers planned for last year, albeit delayed one year. It is still a cross continental tournament with 12 host cities reduced to 11, dublin surrendering those matches. But wembley, one of those 11 host stadiums and this is where england will play all of their matches, all of their group games and they could well play all of the Games Bar one at wembley should they top their group and go on to reach the final. As we know, scotland and wales will be hoping to produce something special as well. Not since 1958 have all three of those nations been represented at a major tournament. It is certainly going to be exciting as italy get under way against turkey. Italy will certainly fancy their chances of lifting the trophy once again. With a huge amount of expectation on their shoulders, since Roberto Mancini has taken over, they have breezed through qualifiers with a World Records Qualifying of ten out of ten matches. You just get a feeling, dont you . The Atmosphere Building at wembley, just as it is in rome at the moment, when the matches begin, they become thick and fast. That major Tournament Excitement will certainly start to build after kick off at apm in rome tonight. A big weekend to come. In tennis, the british number Jo Konta is through to the semi finals of the nottingham open, as she continues her preparations for wimbledon. Kontas reached the final on two previous occassions in 2017 and 2018 but is yet to win the title there. After the match she spoke about the value in playing high intensity matches every day. That is something that you cant practice, so its the only chance that you can have to get that kind of Match Fitness is by playing consecutive matches. You cannot train that. So, ifeel very fortunate and very lucky to have had three matches in a row and i will have another fourth one and i will try to make it fit one. Thats all the sport for now. The Uk Economy grew by 2. 3 in april, the fastest monthly rise since last summer. As families got away for easter, activity in its sector this Jewellery Chain had to shut 72 stores for six months, significantly damaging its trade. The Prime Minister says that he and President Biden are working together on the case of Harry Dunn who was killed after his motorbike collided with a car driven by a us citizen. The 19 year old died in northamptonshire almost two years ago. In a collision with a car driven by anne sacoolas, the wife of an american intelligence officer. She claimed Diplomatic Immunity and returned to america, but prosecutors want her to face a trial here in the uk. Dominic casciani has more details. Roadside memorial almost two years on from a death that should never have happened. This is the spot where Harry Dunn was fatally injured after his motorbike collided with a car driven by this woman, anne sacoolas. The wife of a us intelligence officer, she flew out of the Uk Days later claiming Diplomatic Immunity from prosecution. Harrys family left without answers amid a transatlantic row between the closest of allies. But now are there signs of progress at the highest levels of government . During their first Face To Face Meeting at the g7, borisjohnson raised the case with the new president. He is actively engaged in the case, as you know. He has his own personal reasons for feeling deeply about the issue and he was extremely sympathetic. But personal sympathy comes from a shared trauma. His first wife and the youngest of their three children lost their lives in a Car Crash 50 years ago. There are limits to what the executive can do with the legal, the judiciary and the legal system, but both sides are working together. When the family met President Trump in washington, he refused to strip anne sacoolas of Diplomatic Immunity and send her back to be prosecuted. We are talking about Diplomatic Immunity. President trump met Harry Dunns family in October 2019 but refused to help. Instead of listening to their plea forjustice, he tried to make them meet the driver. Harry dunns Mother Today urged President Biden to do the right thing. Weve always hoped that he would be able to be sympathetic towards us and understand whatjustice is so important to us. You know, we naturally await anxiously now to hear from the Crown Prosecution Service in this country as to what the next steps may be. Lawyers for anne sacoolas insists she shouldnt be returned. The question now is whether President Biden, who knows what it feels like to lose a child, will take the decision out of her hands. Regular and strenuous exercise increases the risk of Motor Neurone Disease in people, who are genetically vulnerable, according to a study. As a clinician doing clinics for patients with mnd, i have always suspected that being a fit, athletic sort of Person Is a Risk Factor but the studies that have been done until now in the medical literature have been controversial, so some studies have shown the link and other studies have not confirmed that and i think the step forward with the research that we have just published is that it confirms there is a causal link between being the sort of person that does strenuous, regular physical activity, and the development of mnd but not in everyone. Only in genetically susceptible individuals. We have identified the Bodys Stress Response to acute physical activity and the suspicion is that patients susceptible to mnd do not mount the full physiological stress response, so we need to dig down into those complex pathways to pull out precisely the genetic Risk Factors. We did take one patients of mnd who have the commonest genetic cause of the disease, it is caused by a mutation in a gene, and 10 of mnd patients will have that change. We looked carefully at the history of physical exercise in those patients that have the Senine Change and what we found is if you have that genetic Risk Factor and you have high levels of physical activity as part of your lifestyle, then you develop the mnd at a younger age, compared to those who do not have high levels of physical activity. And, at last, footballs euros get under way. Wales, England And Scotland, all vying for glory. A year later than planned, the European Football championships finally gets under way this evening. 24 countries will compete in 11 cities across the continent, and thousands of fans will be admitted to every game. In rome this evening, its italy against turkey, and in the next coming days, three of the Home Nations will be in action, wales, England And Scotland. Adam wild has the details. We have got correspondence travelling with all the Home Nations. Natalie pirks is at englands training camp, Jane Dougall is with the Scotland Team, but first in baku in azerbaijan, where wales begin their campaign tomorrow, Hywel Griffith sent us this update. It Euro 2016 was probably the high mark in World football history. It lifted a nation as they go. When you speak to the players, many say it was the best summer of their lives but now the focus has to be on that first Game Tomorrow in the Olympic Stadium behind me again switzerland. Three points there could be vital in making it out of the Group Stage and into the knockout round. They look very happy and relaxed and the good news is that the likes of Gareth Bale, Adam Ramsay and Joe Allen all look fit and well. A relief to the fans back home. After switzerland, they will Play Turkey next Week And Thenit they will Play Turkey next week and then it is off to rome to Face Italy. No other major nation has ever played as many game as england to never make the final. They have never won an Opening Match at the euros in the last 50 years. Just like in the World-cup'>World Cup, they do believe that they can make history. They were the youngest squad in russia and they are the third youngest here and they really feel like they have carried the good feeling in and they seem to enjoy Each Other s company. They are not shy in telling us that they believe in Each OtherS Ability to go and win this. 17 of these players were not in russia at all, and since then, some really amazingly talented midfielders have come through. The question now isjust midfielders have come through. The question now is just how does gareth make that balance and who is going to make it against croatia On Sunday . Like i said, it is calm here but for how long . But for how long . Several of these la ers but for how long . Several of these players went but for how long . Several of these players went even but for how long . Several of these players went even borne but for how long . Several of these players went even borne the but for how long . Several of these players went even borne the last l players went even borne the last time that scotland were in a major tournament. That was in france 1998. Ten players play in the premier league. Two of them have Champions League. Two of them have Champions League medals. That is why they have an innate belief that they can get out of the Group Stages for the first time in scotland because my history. They went to stake a stand against racism they want to. Because it is such a prevalent issue, the captain felt like he had to iterate that they have spoken together as A Group and by taking a stand was the best way for them to show solidarity. So, today and yesterdays training sessions have been very much about getting used to their very windy facilities here at darlington at throckley. Obviously, in england not scotland. So to bring a little bit of scotland to england, the captain presented every member of the squad with a big box of shortbread, a particular brand of scottish beer and an orange coloured soft drink that some people may be more familiar with than others. Yes indeed. It has more familiar with than others. Yes indeed. It has been more than a century since britains largest bird of prey the Sea Eagle has been spotted on Loch Lomond near glasgow. But, during the quiet months of lockdown, the birds returned to nest. Now, with Activity And Footfall increasing around the popular spot, there are fears that they could be scared away. Our scotland correspondent, lorna gordon has been to there for us. About half of Scotlands Population live within an hour of the national park and this stunning scenery but it seems that these birds took advantage of the quieter times earlier this year to return to this area and the authorities really want them to stay. Out on patrol on the waters, the rangers are now looking out for britains largest prey. There is no mistaking them, they are absolutely huge. I was shocked. Im used to seeing buzzards and Crows Anything like that but seeing an eagle, it is a good feeling. With eight foot wingspan, they were once hunted to extinction. They were successfully reintroduced and there are now thought to be over 150 breeding pairs. As their numbers have grown, the territory that they can be spotted and has spread. No Sign Today. The pair arrived during the quiet of lockdown. Experts hope that even as it gets busy at again, they will choose to stay. They are very heavily protected and so we obviously are avoiding disturbance. The fear that we have is that birds will be disturbed from people either walking or getting too close to their nest and people being on the Water And Kayaking orjet skiing. We hope that they will come back next Year And Breeze successfully. Breeze successfully. These waters, quiet today, can get noisy. Just to let you know, we set up an Exclusion Zone in this area, where we are restricting all traffic. There is now a restricted area around where the birds have built their nest. But as a last resort, anyone who does get too close faces the threat of a Prison Sentence or a £5,000 fine. That is a big sanction. It is but it is very important to protect our key wildlife species. We start to see a better balance of the wildlife. Not everyone is happy to see the birds return. In some locations, Sea Eagles have attacked lambs, and while this has not happened here, farmers are concerned and warned they will be counting their livestock. A young lamb is an easy kill. It is very worrying because they can decimate a sheep flock. It is more than a century since Sea Eagles have been seen nesting this close to glasgow. Conservationists hope that with a little help, they will stay, breed and flourish. Well, with me is simonjones and roxanne from elite falconry. This is a magnificent Sea Eagle who was bred in captivity. Tell me a little bit about her. She is nine years old. We have been working together since she wasjust over a year. You can see that she has got a big set of feet bare. A nice big, yellow beak. What are wingspan yes, she is seven fott eight in the wings. Does she have good eyesight . Yes, she can see over to those trees, no problem. She can see two and a half times largerand eight times greater detail than we can. She was bred in captivity but what is amazing about the lock now is that there are two wild Sea Eagles. Have you seen them . I saw them myself when i was canoeing on the loch a few weeks ago. There are some concerns from farmers and landowners about Sea Eagles, what would you say to them . I would say to see how things work out over the next few months. Theyve just come here and we have created an Exclusion Zone around where they were looking to nest. Hopefully, they will settle and they will breed and we are engaging with local [and managers and users of the loch, so that everybody is aware of how best to live with these birds again. Was it exciting when you saw them flying . I have seen them a couple of times now, to see an eagle of that size to come close to you is absolutely breathtaking. It is hopefully a great experience for people coming down to the loch. Do you hope that they say . Absolutely. I hope they are here for many years to come. Thank you very much. Thank you. Now, lets Catch Up with the weather. Here is louise. If you have got outdoor plans for the weekend, i hope you will factor in plenty of Shade And Sun screen because you will need it. Increasingly cerny this weekend, turning humid as well. It will be quite hot generally as well. It does look as though we will continue to see a fairamount look as though we will continue to see a fair amount of cloud today. It is from this Weather Front that is introducing that thick cloud. It could bring some drizzle as well. Pressure conditions and breezy following on behind. We still keep the Sunshine And Heat into the far South East. That is where the highest temperatures and the best of the weather is likely to be. Our Weather Front moves its way down into the midlands and South Wales for the afternoon. Maybe a little spot or two of drizzle. A breezy day and that means that behind that front the temperatures could be 14 to 21 degrees. We could see 24 in the South East. Moving out to friday, into the start of the weekend, High Pressure continues to build once again across the country. Circulating around at High Pressure, we have got this South Westerly Flow Driving in the humid air. It is a Week Weatherfront driving in the humid air. It is a week Weather Front across the but generally speaking it will get hotter as we go through the weekend. Saturday, we have a breeze and a few scattered showers into the northern aisles. It would be quite as warm in scotland and northern Ireland But Southern Parts of england will see temperatures into the low to mid 20s. We are looking at higher values further north generally about 14 to 19 degrees. For the cricket, it looks as though we will continue to see a dry, settled story, particularly On Sunday. 27 degrees, perhaps too hot for many spectators and even the players as well. On sunday, plenty of dry, sunny weather right across the country. That week Weather Front will affect the Western Isles but, generally speaking, it is a drier, sunnier and humid feel to the day. 24 degrees for hull and 28 in london, may be a degree or so higher. The weather could peak in the early parts of the next week seeing 30 degrees, which will be the hottest day of the year so far.
