Are literally sinking below the sea in indonesia, because of the fights over what is land any more. With the g7, we plan to launch an ambitious effort to support resilience and develop meant around the World by investing in high quality, high standard, physical, digitaland quality, high standard, physical, digital and health infrastructures. We have to make sure the new technologies and norms of conduct in cyberspace are established, including addressing the growing threat of ransomware attacks. Governed by our democratic values, not by the autocrats who are letting it happen. These are all critical National Security Issues in 2021, and we are going to be driving this agenda together with our g7 partners. In brussels, Iwill Agenda together with our g7 partners. In brussels, i will make it clear to the united States Commitment to our Nato Alliance in article five is rock solid. It is a sacred obligation we have under article five. The uk are both founding members of nato, the strongest political alliance in the World, that is not hyperbole. Our troops have stood shoulder to shoulder around the World, including serving bravely in afghanistan for the last 20 years will stop the nato allies have had our backs when it mattered, just like we have had theirs when it has mattered, now we need to modernise our alliance, investing in our critical infrastructure, our cyber capabilities, and to keep us secure against every threat we have faced over the last decade and the new challenges we are about to face as well. With the European Union leaders, i will discuss how the United States can work with europe to address a full range of issues that require the full strength of our transatlantic partnership, including working together to shape the new rules for the 21st Century Economy is. And only after these meetings with our closest democratic partners to develop a common agenda and renewed purpose, iwill partners to develop a common agenda and renewed purpose, i will travel to geneva to sit down with a man i have spent time with before, president Vladimir Putin. We are not seeking conflict with russia. We want a stable, predictable relationship. 0urtwo want a stable, predictable relationship. Our two nations share incredible responsibilities, and among them ensuring strategic stability, and upholding Arms Control agreements. I take that responsibility seriously. But i have been clear, the United States will respond in a robust and meaningful way when the russian government engages in harmful activities. We have already demonstrated that. Im going to communicate that there are consequences for violating the sovereignty of democracies in the United States and europe and elsewhere. I am going to be clear that the Transatlantic Alliance will remain vital, a vital source of strength for the uk, europe and United States, and im going to make sure theres No Doubt as to whether the United States will rise in defence of our most deeply held values and our fundamental interest. Heres why this all matters so much right now. I believe we are in an Inflection Point in World history. A moment where it falls to us to prove that democracies will notjust endure, but they will excel, as we rise to seize the enormous opportunities of the new age. We have to discredit those who believe that the age of democracy is over, as some of our fellow nations believe. We have to expose as false the narrative that decrees of dictators can match the Speed And Scale of 21st century challenges. You know and i know, they are wrong, but it doesnt mean we dont have to work harder than ever to prove that democracy can still deliver for our people. Many think people are changing so rapidly, democracies cannot get together and form a consensus to respond, like autocrats can. But you know better than anyone that democracy doesnt happen by accident. We have two strengthen it, defended, we knew it, and i know that the american people are up to thisjob. I know, because i look around this hanger, and what i see is ac america. I see america, people of different backgrounds coming together in a shared mission. 0ur Democracy has never been perfect, never been perfect, but americans of all races, religions, sexual orientation, immigrants, Native Americans all have spilled their blood to defend the values that we talk about. Generation after generation of american heroes have signed up to be part of the fight, because they understand the truth that lives in every american heart, that lives in every american heart, that liberation, opportunity, justice is far more likely to come to pass in a democracy than in emerging autocracies in the World. I promise you that is what this is going to be all about for your generatiOn And those of your children. And heres what else i know beyond a doubt. Theres not a single thing, nothing, nothing beyond Americas Competence to accomplish when we do it together, when we do it as one people. You are proof of that. Your proof of that every single day. Your bravery, your decency, your honour, your commitment to duty. You can send more fuel through a boom of the Kc 135 are in eight minutes than a civilian Gas Pump can pump in 2a hours, and you do it in midair. And its all a normal day for this team. So dont Tell Me we cant win our race to the future across the board. We are the country that cracked the physicals and the physics of human flight, then crashed through the sound barrier, then put a Man On The Moon and flew a helicopter on mars. I could go On And On And on. There nothing, nothing, nothing beyond our capacity. So i want to thank you again for Welcoming Gill and me today. Its great to be here in the uk but its great being here and seeing you first jill and me today. Seeing all of you is the best possible way to start this trip. Let me end where i began by saying thank you. A minute from the bottom of my heart, i gave you my word, thank you all for what you do. Thank you all for your understanding, that we are a nation based on values. Thank you all for protecting us all. May God Bless you all, and may god protect our troops. Thank you and God Bless. Applause so,joe so, Joe Biden speaking to the Usair Men And Women and soldiers at Raf Mildenhall in suffolk. His first public engagement since landing here in the uk, on his first trip as president of the United States, flavour there i think of what we are going to get the days ahead. America is back, said the president , reaching out there to the United States s traditional allies, reassuring them that things will be different. 0ur alliances, reassuring them that things will be different. 0uralliances, he said, were not built by coercion or threats, but by democratic ideals and the power of our example. And, to that end, on his arrival in just the last few hours, news has been breaking that the president is to announce on this trip this week that the United States will buy 500 Million Pfizer Coronavirus vaccines that it million Pfizer Coronavirus vaccines thatitis million Pfizer Coronavirus vaccines that it is going to donate to the rest of the World. That it is going to donate to the rest of the World. Thats right. The us has been rest of the World. Thats right. The us has been criticised rest of the World. Thats right. The us has been criticised for rest of the World. Thats right. The us has been criticised for Hoarding Vaccine supplies in the new doses that President Biden is going to announce He Has bought will be sent to 100 nations over the next two years, with the aim of vaccinating the entire World by The End of 2022. Mr biden s Host Borisjohnson wants the g7 leaders to fund the global Coronavirus Programme that will tackle those variants before they spread. Paul adams is at Raf Mildenhall farce where the president has just been speaking. Paul, he was really hitting the themes of his trip, wasnt it, that democracies should be stronger than autocracies . Yeah, laura, i be stronger than autocracies . Yeah, laura. I thought be stronger than autocracies . Yeah, laura, i thought he be stronger than autocracies . Yeah, laura, i thought he was be stronger than autocracies . Yeah, laura, i thought he was never be stronger than autocracies . Yeah, laura, i thought he was never going | laura, i thought he was never going to get laura, i thought he was never going to get around to it, because he was spending to get around to it, because he was Spending A to get around to it, because he was Spending A lot of time, you know, doing Spending A lot of time, you know, doing what Spending A lot of time, you know, doing whatJoe Biden does so Spending A lot of time, you know, doing what Joe Biden does so well, which doing what Joe Biden does so well, which is doing what Joe Biden does so well, which is to doing what Joe Biden does so well, which is to be very informal and jokey which is to be very informal and jokey and which is to be very informal and jokey and sort of grandfatherly with the troops here at Raf Mildenhall. But then the troops here at Raf Mildenhall. But then he turned a corner, and he turned but then he turned a corner, and he turned a but then he turned a corner, and he turned a corner with a kind of rallying turned a corner with a kind of rallying call, when he referred to next rallying call, when he referred to next weeks meeting with Vladimir Putin. Next weeks meeting with Vladimir Putin, when he said i will be there to let putin, when he said i will be there to let him putin, when he said i will be there to let him know what i want him to know to let him know what i want him to know and to let him know what i want him to know. And an enormous cheer erupted among know. And an enormous cheer erupted among his know. And an enormous cheer erupted among his audience. And at that point, among his audience. And at that point, he among his audience. And at that point, he did Go On to outline, as you say, point, he did Go On to outline, as you say. The point, he did Go On to outline, as you say, the purpose of this bold, ambitious you say, the purpose of this bold, ambitious and complex trip. He talked ambitious and complex trip. He talked a ambitious and complex trip. He talked a lot about american values, values talked a lot about american values, values which he said the troops here at raf values which he said the troops here at Raf Mildenhall embodied, and that, at Raf Mildenhall embodied, and that, as at Raf Mildenhall embodied, and that, as you say, that alliances are imili that, as you say, that alliances are built on that, as you say, that alliances are built on common shared values, not on coercion. Built on common shared values, not on coercion, and he also talked about on coercion, and he also talked about something that will have gone down very about something that will have gone down very well to british ears here, that famous down very well to british ears here, that famous phrase, the special relationship. He talked about the troops relationship. He talked about the troops here being diplomats and bridge troops here being diplomats and Bridge Builders and a central part of the Bridge Builders and a central part of the special relationship. And then of the special relationship. And then he of the special relationship. And then he launched into a description of the then he launched into a description of the agenda for the g7 meeting. Talked of the agenda for the g7 meeting. Talked about the need to tackle the global talked about the need to tackle the global pandemic, to make sure that vaccihes global pandemic, to make sure that vaccines are available to countries that Dont Vaccines are available to countries that dont currently have them. He talked that dont currently have them. He talked about the extreme importance of the talked about the extreme importance of the challenge of global warming, something that he said he and barack obama. Something that he said he and barack obama, when they first came together during obama, when they first came together during barack 0bamas first term as president. During barack 0bamas first term as president , were warned by the pentagon represented the single most important pentagon represented the single most important challenge faced by the United States. And he talked about nato, United States. And he talked about nato, noticeably absent in his leg which nato, noticeably absent in his leg which there any reference to nato aities which there any reference to nato allies stumping up the money, which was of allies stumping up the money, which was of course very much part of donald was of course very much part of donald trumps refrain. He took there donald trumps refrain. He took there about the need to modernise nato for there about the need to modernise nato for 21st century challenges but He Dhint nato for 21st century challenges but he didnt chide and chastise his allies he didnt chide and chastise his allies. And then he went on towards The End allies. And then he went on towards The End to allies. And then he went on towards The End to talk about his meeting with Vladimir Putin In Geneva next week, with Vladimir Putin In Geneva next week, he with Vladimir Putin In Geneva next week, he said that the United States was hot week, he said that the United States was not seeking conflict but wanted a stable was not seeking conflict but wanted a stable relationship, and that he would a stable relationship, and that he would communicate to the russian ieader would communicate to the russian leader that there would be consequences, if russia continued to engage consequences, if russia continued to engage in consequences, if russia continued to engage in disruptive behaviour. So he did engage in disruptive behaviour. So he did very engage in disruptive behaviour. So he did very much set out his stall broadly, he did very much set out his stall broadly, and with some passion, it has to broadly, and with some passion, it has to be broadly, and with some passion, it has to be said, and i think a lot of people has to be said, and i think a lot of people down in cornwall would have been listening very intently. I m been listening very intently. Im sure the been listening very intently. In sure they were, particularly boris johnson. It is a very different tone, isnt it . Pauladams johnson. It is a very different tone, isnt it . Paul adams at Raf Mildenhall. Thank you for that. Mary robinson is the former president of ireland and chair of the elders, a group of distinguished figures formed by Nelson Mandela in 2007. Mary robinson, lovely to have you on the programme. It was rather interesting, listening to that Opening Remark from Joe Biden. We are at an Inflection Point, he said, a moment to prove that my courses dontjust endure but excel. And that principle will be sorely tested in the coming years, as we get to grips with the pandemic recovery. It as we get to grips with the pandemic recove. , as we get to grips with the pandemic recove. ,. , , as we get to grips with the pandemic recove. ,. , , recovery. It was certainly very good to hear a strong recovery. It was certainly very good to hear a strong speech, recovery. It was certainly very good to hear a strong speech, affirming l to hear a strong speech, affirming democracy, to hear a strong speech, affirming democracy, multinational cooperation, by President Biden as he landed cooperation, by President Biden as he landed in the united kingdom, and Igather He landed in the united kingdom, and i gather there is going to be an announcement, as we have heard, of 500 mitiion announcement, as we have heard, of 500 Million doses of the pfizer vaccine, 500 Million doses of the pfizer vaccine, which already have been bought vaccine, which already have been bought apparently by the United States. Bought apparently by the United States, to give to the poorest countries, states, to give to the poorest countries, and this would meet one of the countries, and this would meet one of the things the elders have been strongly of the things the elders have been strongly calling for, which is the commitment that was actually made in the Gavi Commitment that was actually made in the Gavi Kov Cs advanced Market Commitment that there would be A Billion commitment that there would be A Billion doses by 2021. And then 2 Billion billion doses by 2021. And then 2 Billion by billion doses by 2021. And then 2 Billion by may 2022. We need measurable commitments here and that is a good measurable commitments here and that is a good step. Frankly, on the climate is a good step. Frankly, on the Climate Finance, im looking forward to what Climate Finance, im looking forward to what President Biden may say, because to what President Biden may say, because the United States has to make because the United States has to make up because the United States has to make up time. Its behind the curve. When make up time. Its behind the curve. When he make up time. Its behind the curve. When he left make up time. Its behind the curve. When he left washington earlier today, he talked about restoring the alliances so we will show China And Russia just how tight we are. But i sense, mary, that there is a difference in the approach to china between the United States and america. Europe certainly doesnt like what china does, particularly when it comes to human rights, they dont like what it stands for, in some respects, but america doesnt like what china is, and that is it is an existential threat to Americas Position as the World leading superpower. Do you get a sense that they will be receptive to what he wants them to do with china, or do you think there is going to be this sort of strategic independence from the eu leaders . I this sort of strategic independence from the eu leaders . From the eu leaders . I think its auoin to from the eu leaders . I think its going to be from the eu leaders . I think its going to be important from the eu leaders . I think its going to be important that from the eu leaders . I think its going to be important that the l going to be important that the united going to be important that the United States and china find a way of living United States and china find a way of living together in a new era, where of living together in a new era, where china is certainly much more aggressively competitive, on clean energy aggressively competitive, on clean energy for aggressively competitive, on clean energy for example and other things, but, frankly, the bigger picture is what but, frankly, the bigger picture is what we but, frankly, the bigger picture is what we have learnt from covid, the vulnerability of our humanity, that a tiny vulnerability of our humanity, that a tiny Virus Vulnerability of our humanity, that a tiny virus can so turn the World upside a tiny virus can so turn the World upside down and knock all economies of stride, upside down and knock all economies of stride, and kill so many people, and have of stride, and kill so many people, and have Health Systems recognised as an and have Health Systems recognised as an important. We need the World to understand the multicultural dimension. We have the 2030 agenda in 2015 dimension. We have the 2030 agenda in 2015 with dimension. We have the 2030 agenda in 2015 with the 17 sustainable development goals. I wear this badge constantly development goals. I wear this badge constantly to remind us. This is what constantly to remind us. This is what we constantly to remind us. This is what we need to go back to. Somehow, the united what we need to go back to. Somehow, the United States and china will be competing with Each Other, we know that, but competing with Each Other, we know that, but they also have to cooperate, particularly on these two important cooperate, particularly on these two important crises, and nothing more than the important crises, and nothing more than the climate crisis. It is important that china and the United States important that china and the United States find, as they did before paris. States find, as they did before paris. A states find, as they did before paris, a way of pushing Each Other but also paris, a way of pushing Each Other but also respecting Each Other. Mary robinson, but also respecting Each Other. Mary robinson. Joe but also respecting Each Other. Mary robinson, Joe Biden but also respecting Each Other. 1 robinson, Joe Biden talked as he landed there about how the United States leads not by the example of its power but by the power of its example. As he undermined by what happened here in washington on the 6th Ofjanuary . I happened here in washington on the 6th Ofjanuary . 6th Ofjanuary . I think that didnt hel , 6th Ofjanuary . I think that didnt help. Because 6th Ofjanuary . I think that didnt help, because it 6th Ofjanuary . I think that didnt help, because it has 6th Ofjanuary . I think that didnt help, because it has shown 6th Ofjanuary . I think that didnt help, because it has shown a help, because it has shown a vulnerability in the United States now to vulnerability in the United States now to its vulnerability in the United States now to its own democracy, which has to be now to its own democracy, which has to be more now to its own democracy, which has to be more consolidated, and it is very worrying that the Republican Party very worrying that the Republican Party is very worrying that the Republican Party is still supporting the myth of the party is still supporting the myth of The Great Lie of the fraud and the election, which didnt happen, and trying the election, which didnt happen, and trying to downplay the attack on the 6th and trying to downplay the attack on the 6th Of and trying to downplay the attack on the 6th Ofjanuary etc. You know, its very the 6th Ofjanuary etc. You know, its very important that biden can convey its very important that biden can convey a its very important that biden can convey a credibility, notjust its very important that biden can convey a credibility, not just that the current convey a credibility, not just that the current democratic government in the current democratic government in the united the current democratic government in the United States is worthy of trust. The United States is worthy of trust, but also that the United States trust, but also that the United States is trust, but also that the United States is going to deal with its own democratic problems, because it has problems democratic problems, because it has problems that it must deal with, and, problems that it must deal with, and. You problems that it must deal with, and, you know, ialso do problems that it must deal with, and, you know, i also do think, problems that it must deal with, and, you know, ialso do think, and i and, you know, ialso do think, and i want and, you know, ialso do think, and i want to and, you know, ialso do think, and i want to bring this out, that president i want to bring this out, that President Biden has to deal with climate President Biden has to deal with Climate Finance. Thats the Trust Issue Climate Finance. Thats the Trust Issue for Climate Finance. Thats the Trust Issue for cop26. The United States, because issue for cop26. The United States, because of issue for cop26. The United States, because of the four years of the trump because of the four years of the trump administration, is behind. President trump administration, is behind. President biden has committed to double President Biden has committed to double the Climate Finance to 5. 7 by 2024. Double the Climate Finance to 5. 7 by 2024, which sounds good, doubling your Climate Finance, but actually he needs your Climate Finance, but actually he needs to double again to catch up with what he needs to double again to catch up with what france and germany and italy with what france and germany and itaiy and with what france and germany and italy and the united kingdom are doing italy and the united kingdom are doing so italy and the united kingdom are doing. So the United States need to commit, doing. So the United States need to commit, hopefully in this g7, to something commit, hopefully in this g7, to something like 11. 4 billion, is a Figure Something like 11. 4 billion, is a figure i something like 11. 4 billion, is a figure i have heard credibly put forward figure i have heard credibly put forward. Why . Because, if not, we are going forward. Why . Because, if not, we are going to forward. Why . Because, if not, we are going to see a lack of trust in developing are going to see a lack of trust in developing countries in what the g7 can deliver developing countries in what the g7 can deliver and what they are going to do. I do think its interesting that what hearing about this sort interesting that what hearing about this sort of unite with the idea of multilateralism again coming out of the administration, this is very reminiscent of the tpp, which now seems reminiscent of the tpp, which now seems Like Reminiscent of the tpp, which now seems like it was so long gone for those seems like it was so long gone for those of seems like it was so long gone for those of us seems like it was so long gone for those of us in the United States, but the those of us in the United States, but the tpp, One Of The Best opportunities was marketing it for what It Opportunities was marketing it for what it was actually about, and that was uniting the rest of the World against was uniting the rest of the World against china, and isolating china on intellectual property issues, and ithink on intellectual property issues, and i think i on intellectual property issues, and i think i am on intellectual property issues, and i think i am seeing reminiscent of that coming out of this administration, that tpp did not get marketed administration, that tpp did not get marketed right. The live pictures, Joe Biden still gladhanding the troops, as he tends to do, he does spend time on the line and he is still doing it again today. Good evening. Its been very warm again in The Sunshine, but it hasnt been sunny for all. Weve got Weather Fronts out to the west, the Odd Sharp Shower to come in the southern and western areas this evening. Is areas this evening. Weakening whether france Will Pent is weakening whether france Will Pent up with time. A lot of Cloud Around for this evening, even the Odd Sharp Shower in the south and west. Is that cloud creeps eastwards over it will prevent those temperatures from falling, so a warmer night, kind of maggie as well, really notable where we had those Clear Skies first thing this morning, and it also means there will be more Cloud Around, grey, misty conditions first thing tomorrow, and for tomorrow, the low Pressure Closing in, the isobars more tightly packed, a bit more cloud. So it is the partial solar eclipse, which peaks late in the morning. But please dont look straight at The Sun, it can seriously damage your eyes, you need the right equipment to look at it, but we will have quite a bit of Cloud Around as well with the close proximity of that Weather Front to the north and the west. Even further South And East where we have had more sunshine in recent days there will be more Cloud Around. Itjust takes awhile The Sunshine to work through, but it will come out into the afternoOn And it is strong, they could be the Odd Sharp Shower around, certainly more breeze to content within northern and western areas and perhaps some heavy rain later. But it is still warm, perhaps warmer than today in the North And East of scotland, and parts of Northern Ireland, north eastern england, perhaps those areas favoured to see some of tHe Higher temperatures with the fail effect with the wind. Friday, there is isobars are with us but we change direction more to a west South Westerly, fresher weather and claudia, pushing south, but again it is very tenuous, there will be some sunshine coming through and it will be strong sunshine, even though it will feel a bit fresher towards the north with a few showers, so we are going to freshen things up towards The End of the week. Just a little bit. By the weekend, that High Pressure, the Azores High will re establish itself across the united kingdom, and that will allow more sunshine to come through, and again, as a result the temperatures will start to rise once again and become pretty hot potentially by The End of the weekend. That means temperatures pushing towards 30 celsius, particularly in southern and eastern areas. More as ever on the website. Leaked documents claim to show that some of americas super rich pay less tax than ordinary workers. Also in the programme. The trend is clear, the results concerning. For areas of the us where Vaccination Rates are low, hospitalizations are spiking. And those mutating variants may be a factor too. And cornwall, once the trevelyan stronghold, plays host to the us president. And Let Me tell you the american press have something to learn about my ancestral home. Is it fair that the wealthiest people in the us pay the least tax . That is the question being posed after an investigation by the propublica website, revealed that the Twenty Five richest americans effectively pay a federal Tax Rate that is far lower than the average worker and sometimes, they dont pay any federal Income Tax at all. Take for Example Amazonsjeff bezos who handed over zero tax in 2007 and 2011, and, according to propublica, he paid less than 1 between 2014 and 18. 0ver that time, his wealth grew by almost 100 billion. Elon musk, the founder of tesla, is reported to have paid nothing in 2018. Between 2014 and 18 he paid just over three per cent tax, while his wealth grew by around 14 billion. Propublica says that in the same four years, Warren Buffett paid just 0. 1 tax on his vast fortune as it increased by 24 billion. And Billionaire Michael Bloomberg who also ran for the White House last year paid just over 1 . These are all claims that the bbc has not been able to verify. Propublica says the billionaires did nothing illegal but used Tax Avoidance schemes unavailable to ordinary americans. The News Outlet themselves are under scrutiny for how they obtained the confidential data. Heres White House spokespersonjen psaki. So obviously we take it very seriously. Im not going to comment on specific unauthorised disclosures of confidential government information. I can tell you that broadly speaking, we know that there is more to be done to ensure that corporations, individuals who are at tHe Highest income are paying more of theirfair share. More to be done says the White House, but what can be done in practice . And how does america compare to the uk. Do we do it any better . Pauljohnson is the director of tHe Highly respected insitute of financial studies. Good to see you. The scandal here is that what they were doing were perfectly legal, the taxco favours Investment Income rather than the regular earnings of everyone else, so is there anything that america could be doing . Could they take any examples from us . Hat could be doing . Could they take any examples from us . Could be doing . Could they take any examples from us . Not a lot from us. Our Tax System examples from us . Not a lot from us. Our Tax System is examples from us . Not a lot from us. Our Tax System is not examples from us . Not a lot from us. Our Tax System is not so examples from us . Not a lot from us. Our Tax System is not so different. 0ur Tax System is not so different. 0ne 0ur Tax System is not so different. One of 0ur Tax System is not so different. One of the 0ur Tax System is not so different. One of the things going on here is that there one of the things going on here is that there are not Wealth Taxes, it does that there are not Wealth Taxes, it does not that there are not Wealth Taxes, it does not matter how wealthy you are, you are does not matter how wealthy you are, you are not does not matter how wealthy you are, you are not going to get taxed on that wealth as it is. Also the fact that wealth as it is. Also the fact that your that wealth as it is. Also the fact that your wealth is rising is not taxed. That your wealth is rising is not taxed. But that your wealth is rising is not taxed, but if you make Capital Gains your Wealth Taxed, but if you make Capital Gains your wealth rises and then you sell it and your wealth rises and then you sell it and there your wealth rises and then you sell it and there are taxes to pay but if you dont it and there are taxes to pay but if you dont sell it and there are not taxes you dont sell it and there are not taxes to you dont sell it and there are not taxes to pay. Its also worth saying in this taxes to pay. Its also worth saying in this report they quite explicitly say this in this report they quite explicitly say this does not take into account any corporate taxes that may have been any corporate taxes that may have been paid any corporate taxes that may have been paid by the businesses that these been paid by the businesses that these people own. So probably some under these people own. So probably some under estimate there. But broadly speaking under estimate there. But broadly speaking because Investment Income is taxed speaking because Investment Income is taxed less and we do not taxed wealth is taxed less and we do not taxed wealth and because we do not Tax Capital Wealth and because we do not Tax Capital gains until they are actually Capital Gains until they are actually accrued and until people actually actually accrued and until people actually sell the things they made a capital actually sell the things they made a Capital Gain on the nurse less tax to pay Capital Gain on the nurse less tax to pay. And Capital Gain on the nurse less tax to pay. And Theres Plenty of very clear to pay. And Theres Plenty of very clear evidence in this, the average Tax Rate clear evidence in this, the average Tax Rate of clear evidence in this, the average Tax Rate of the very richest americans is much lower than that for those americans is much lower than that for those lower down the distribution because so much more of their Income Distribution because so much more of their income comes from businesses rather their income comes from businesses rather than their income comes from businesses rather than like you and me will be earned rather than like you and me will be earned from our employers. fine rather than like you and me will be earned from our employers. One of the thins earned from our employers. One of the things that earned from our employers. One of the things that sticks earned from our employers. One of the things that sticks in earned from our employers. One of the things that sticks in the earned from our employers. One of the things that sticks in the crawl. The things that sticks in the crawl for a lot of people is Thatjeff Petsos claimed a 4000 Family Tax Credit for him and his children, and thats why i think it stirs the pot for people of what is actually fair and ifeel that for people of what is actually fair and i feel that that is going to come for much of the four of the next few years as we try to pay out these enormous debts that we have run up through the Everyone Pandemic. Run up through the Everyone Pandemic run up through the everyone andemic. ,. , ~ run up through the everyone andemic. ,. ,. , pandemic. That does sound like a fairly scandalous pandemic. Actually we may well need to pay additionaltaxes. If actually we may well need to pay additional taxes. If we really want money additional taxes. If we really want money from these people with vast Amounts Money from these people with vast amounts of wealth than you do need to probably try and introduce some kind of to probably try and introduce some kind of Wealth Tax and certainly change kind of Wealth Tax and certainly change the way in which we tax these investment change the way in which we tax these Investment Incomes and accruing capital Investment Incomes and accruing Capital Gains. The Investment Incomes and accruing Capital Gains Capital Gains. The us Treasury Secretary Capital Gains. The us Treasury Secretary seems Capital Gains. I think still a number at the moment. I think still a number of at the moment. I think still a number of years before any of this comes number of years before any of this comes to number of years before any of this comes to pass, it will improve the system comes to pass, it will improve the system and comes to pass, it will improve the system and will be some big companies paying more if this is brought companies paying more if this is brought in companies paying more if this is brought in but it is not, im afraid. Brought in but it is not, im afraid, going to be enough to dramatically change the revenues that certainly we get in the uk. Thank that certainly we get in the uk. Thank you that certainly we get in the uk. Thank you very much for coming on the programme. Remains to be seen if we have a base for Corporation Tax Law and whether the likes of ireland and luxembourg sign up likes of ireland and luxembourg sign up to it because the ireland has a corporation Tax Rate has 12 and a half percent, a lot of Tech Companies based in ireland already heard rumblings from dublin over what might be agreed at the g7. So we will see. There is huge enthusiasm here in the uk for the vaccinations especially among young people a record One Million people in england booked a Coronavirus Vaccine Yesterday as Jab Offers were extended to 25 to 29 year olds. But here in the us Vaccine Uptake is slowing down. And in some areas it never took off leading to a surge in cases with many people now needing hospital care. In the state of tennessee, if we take look on the ground we can see that one of the worst affected areas is Smith County only 20 of people are fully vaccinated and hospitilizations have gone up by nearly 700 . Dr william schaffner, is professor of infectious diseases at the Vanderbilt University medical center. What is happening there in Smith County in tennessee and why does nobody want to get vaccinated . People do not want to become vaccinated for a variety of reasons, theres vaccinated for a variety of reasons, theres social reasons and political reasons. Theres social reasons and political reasons. A theres social reasons and political reasons, a combination of things. Even reasons, a combination of things. Even sometimes religious reasons ive even sometimes religious reasons ive heard even sometimes religious reasons ive heard people Tell Me who are very conservative religious beliefs but god very conservative religious beliefs but god will have his way. And so it is a more but god will have his way. And so it is a more congregated circumstance and there is a more congregated circumstance and there is is a more congregated circumstance and there is a lack of local leadership from the political community, from the Business Community, from the Business Community and from the local religious community and from the local religious community. Those people have been religious community. Those people have been followers rather than leaders have been followers rather than leaders and so there is a lot of hesitancy. Leaders and so there is a lot of hesitancy, scepticism, indifference and even hesitancy, scepticism, indifference and even downright stubbornness in some and even downright stubbornness in some of and even downright stubbornness in some of our and even downright stubbornness in some of our rural areas and as a consequence we are seeing the Continuing Transmission of the virus sending Continuing Transmission of the virus sending local citizens unfortunately to the sending local citizens unfortunately to tHe Hospital, and some to their graves to tHe Hospital, and some to their graves im to tHe Hospital, and some to their graves. Mick fleetwood. Hello there. The warmth continued on wednesday where we had The Sunshine, but we had more cloud further west and we will have more clout for the next couple of days. Initially in the west on this Weather Front, and that it will push its way southwards weakening all the time before we see tHe High pressure that is reestablishing itself through the coming weekend. Which means that with the Weather Fronts in the North And West where they are most active that is where we will see most of the rainfall in the next few days. Again, it wont amount to a great deal but tHe Heaviest rain will be in the northwest of scotland with a smattering elsewhere across tHe Hills in northern and western areas. So as we go through Thursday Weve got this Weather Front close by, tHe High ranking on in the south. A few more isobars around so it is a bit breezy. And certainly more clout around having had quite a muggy night. That cloud will eventually break up, The Sunshine comes through. More so i think that when state with parts of scotland and Northern Ireland by the afternoon. And quite a good deal of hazy sunshine coming through across england and wales, and strong sunshine once again and very warm and feeling quite close, because we have got that south South Westerly. It is quite muggy with a lot of humidity around. That Weather Front looks quite active and it will be initially in northern and western areas, but through the night on thursday and into friday it to slip southwards and it weakening feature. It introduces a lot more cloud, so once again a really warm night thursday into friday morning. As you can see temperatures in the teens in most areas. So on friday yes we will have a bit more Cloud Around again on this Weather Front, but the difference behind it is fresher air. So we have gone from a south South Westerly to more of a westerly or South Westerly into the north. And a few showers as well, and a few showers remaining on this Weather Front as it slips southwards but equally The Sun is strong this time of year, so there will be that strong sunshine working its way through the clouds and lifting our temperatures. Still with the Warmth And Humidity hanging on ahead of that Weather Front. Behind it, still strong sunshine when it comes through butjust a bit fresher. Then tHe High Pressure Build Spec and for the weekend. We did not have this Weather Front just brushing into the north on saturday and sunday as well, so I Cant promise it will be sunny for all, but it is likely bisected to get pretty hot in the southeast. Away from those Weather Fronts which will keep the temperatures into the low 20s. So it is still warm. Plenty of sunshine around, perhaps a week Weather Front is just around the top of that High Pressure up in the north but for many of us if they fresher, brighter day. Temperatures rising or responding to that strong june sunshine. Then as we go into sunday we have got that Weather Front approaching into the northwest giving some potential rains here in Northern Ireland, perhaps northwest england later. So cloudier skies, but again east 2122 and by that stage some warm air really establishing itself further south. 28, possibly a little higher, so hot for a time. And that he willjust about hang on in southern and eastern areas on monday but by that stage our Weather Front, albeit a rather weaker affair, just a band of cloud, is pushing southwards. And again it willjust introduce something a little bit fresher as the Wind Direction changes. So as i say it is still quite warm on monday with southern and eastern areas but it will, for the majority, start to freshen up behind our Weather Front. And then there is a just a gradual trend, something a little bit more unsettled through tuesday and into wednesday. Still not a lot of dry weather around with that high very close by, but we could have some potential Foundry Rain across southern and eastern areas, and Weather Fronts towards the North And West. Thats where we are likely to see our rains as we go into next week. Tonight at 10 the president of the United States arrives in the uk for a major summit of World leaders this weekend.
