If this Tv Confession is in fact an act of survival, its worth noting that belarus is the only European Country that still executes prisoners. And witnesses said Mr Protasevich told fellow passengers as he left the plane before his detention that he feared he would face the death penalty. Mark lobel, Bbc News. President biden has announced that the us is in a position to donate millions of surplus doses of coronavirus vaccines to other countries. 19 Million doses will be allocated immediately to covax, the global facility designed to distribute vaccines fairly between richer and poorer nations. Six million further doses will go directly to americas neighbours, such as mexico and canada, as well as to countries such as india, which has seen a major surge in cases and deaths in the past month. President biden s national security adviser, jake sullivan, outlined the criteria for vaccine distribution. Weve received requests from all over the world, and a number of important factors went into our decision about how to allocate these first 25 Million vaccines. These factors included achieving global coverage, responding to surges and other specific urgent situations and public health needs, and helping as many countries as possible whove requested vaccines. Our North America Correspondent David Willis says the announcement is evidence that the us is on track to vaccinate a majority of its own citizens byjuly. The situation here is very encouraging and there are millions of doses of the vaccine that were ordered. More on the way. So encouraging is the situation that nearly two thirds of american adults have had at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and the country seems to be well on course to meeting joe biden s goal by the 4th ofjuly, independence day, for 70 of the country to have received at least one jab. But of course the situation is much more dire in other parts of the world. There has been a surge in coronavirus cases in india. Today, the World Health Organization spoke of concern over the situation in africa, where in some countries less than i of the population has had a jab of the vaccine. Thats because there is a shortage of it, and in response, the biden administration is now shipping an initial batch of 25 Million doses of the vaccine to nations in africa, Asia And South and central america. Nepals Prime Minister has made an urgent plea to World Leaders to provide vaccines for his country, as it undergoes a severe second wave of coronavirus. In an exclusive interview with the bbc, Kp Sharma 0li said the uk had a particular responsibility to help, given its close ties to nepal. 0ur South Asia correspondent, rajini vaidyanathan, asked him what nepal needs now. I called our neighbours and otherfriends, global, international organizations and others to support us, and we got support also from different governments and organizations, nepalese and others, but its not enough. And we are trying to get more support. And particularly we want to buy vacciantions now. To buy vaccinations now. If you dont get the vaccines you need, how bad could the situation get in the months to come here in nepal . Well get the vaccine. We cannot imagine that we will not get the vaccine, because that will be devastating. You were relying on india for vaccines and obviously with the situation there, theres no exports. Covax cant send vaccines out either because of the situation in india or certainly those astrazeneca doses. So, i mean, whats your general feeling about how countries like nepal have taken a hit because of the way vaccines are in the world being distributed . This cannot be a medium of owning for any company or the government. They can own, but the distribution should bejustified. That every country, every company should realise that this is the achievement of the entire humanity and entire humanity gives the right to get this. This is not one little question of mercy, but this is the right of the people. A few weeks ago, we werent even sure youd still be in office. You faced a vote of no confidence. Some of your critics point to the fact that you held big political rallies in the spring. Were you more focused on the politics of staying in power than dealing with the pandemic . The question of politics and government and the question of pandemic is different. All the political parties have to be united, had to join us, come together to fight against covid 19. But, Prime Minister, you have people in your own Party Whove turned against you, havent you . Some people did that instead of fighting against covid 19, they were fighting against me. The american carrier says it will buy 15 Ultra Fastjets from denver based aerospace company, boom supersonic. Aviation Writer Christopher Wanjek says that while its a thrilling prospect, there are plenty of challenges ahead. Very exciting. Im wondering why it took 20 years since the retirement of concorde. Sounds a little too good to be true. They want to fly in biofuel. And they pull it off with they will need a lot and it is in short supply. That will raise the cost. Thats not what they wanted to be but the concorde was that way and into dess dollars it will be around 30,000 per Round Trip from New York to london. That is probably what the cost will be for this new venture. I dont know how they can make it much cheaper. They talk about efficiencies, 50 years of plane technology, but it is a long way to get it down to 2500 per ticket. I think the government should get involved, that helped concorde get off the ground. Concorde started in the 1950s, didnt fly a test until 1969, and then it took until 1976 before it went commercial. This is a Start Up Company with a bit of money from united airlines, can they pull it off all by themselves . I just dont think so. I think Government Investment is very prudent in this regard. Your Business News is coming up in about three minutes. I will see very soon, goodbye. Hello there. It was a Bit Cooler on thursday. We still managed temperatures into the low 20s in northern scotland. Highest temperatures were across East Anglia and the South East 25 degrees in suffolk. You may not find temperatures quite as high as that in the next couple of days but for many it will still be dry and there will be warm spells of sunshine, as well. The fly in the ointment is all this cloud we have kept a close eye on moving up from Northern Parts of spain across france and threatening to bring some showers across East Anglia and the South East. We have seen more cloud coming in across eastern parts of england for a while, hence the higher temperatures early in the morning. Some clear skies for many other areas, quite a cool start for wales and the south west. For many on friday, it will be dry with some sunshine, the threat of these showers coming up as the cloud thickens to East Anglia and the South East and already more cloud coming into Northern Ireland that will be spilling its way into Western Parts of scotland. It could bring one or two showers towards the highlands. Not as warm as it was thursday for northern scotland. Much of the country dry with sunny spells, top temperature of 19 degrees. A couple of degrees lower in Northern Ireland and already more cloud. It will be brighter towards the east. A good deal of sunshine for many parts of england and wales strong sunshine and high uv but more cloud for East Anglia and the South East for a time through the day and a threat of some showers and wetter weather towards Kent And East sussex. A chance we could see a little rain In London during the cricket at lords but it looks dry on saturday and sunday with some sunshine, as well. That threat of showers pulls away overnight and the cloud will break early on saturday morning. Then we look into the atlantic and this is where our weather is slowly coming from for the weekend. That weak Weather Front will bring more cloud to Western Parts of the uk, it could deliver some heavy showers in the afternoon across northern Ireland And Western Parts of scotland. Drier elsewhere with more in the way of sunshine towards the South East, and temperatures climbing up to around 23 celsius or so. Heading into the second half of the weekend, probably starting sunny in many areas, temperatures rising and bubbling up a little bit of cloud, could squeeze out a few showers. A very low risk. The sunniest skies likely to be continuing around coastal areas and temperatures on sunday similar to those of saturday. This is Bbc News with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and Around The World. Tightening the net on the tax dodgers.
